DALE LEE ANDERSON

AMES - Dale Lee Anderson, formerly of Osage, passed away Thursday (Dec. 4, 2003), at Israel Family Hospice Family House in Ames.

Memorial services will be Monday at 4 p.m. at St. Andrew's Lutheran Church, 209 Colorado Court, Ames.

There will be no visitation.

Dale was born in Osage on March 29, 1935, to Ren and Myrtle (Lee) Anderson. He graduated from Osage High School in 1953 and Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, in 1957. He taught in the Cedar Rapids school system from 1957 to 1967 and completed a graduate degree at the University of Iowa. While in Cedar Rapids he coached a high school boys gymnastics team to two state champion-ships.

He began coaching and teaching at Iowa State University in 1967. He was assistant gymnastics coach from 1967 to 1969 and men's golf coach from 1968 to 1998. Dale was NCAA District 5 Coach of the Year in 1997 and Big 12 Coach of the Year in 1997-98.

He was a member of St. Andrew's Church where he sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. He supported the Curt Lindholm Event, a fund raiser for spinal re-search, and the ISU Foundation. He also did volunteer work with the Ames Boys & Girls Club, Saturday Morning Kiwanis, and the University of Iowa Holden Cancer Re-search Foundation. He enjoyed golf, sailing, singing, playing guitar and storytelling.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, and his four children and seven grandchildren; Marla and Troy Eagen and children, Megan, Molly, Brian and Laura of Rochester, Minn.; Paul Anderson of Ames; Jim and Ivy Hanson-Anderson and children, John, Grace and Kate of Minneapolis; Holly Monicken of Duluth, Minn., and his brother and sister-in-law, Audrey and Milt Monicken of Duluth, Minn.; and his brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Carol Anderson of St. Ansgar, Iowa.

RONALD LEO OLSON


NORTHWOOD - Ronald Leo Olson, 54, of Northwood, died Saturday (Nov. 29, 2003) at his home.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N., in Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation was held Friday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, and will also be one hour prior to service time today at the church.

Ronald Leo Olson, the son of Guy Olson of Northwood, and Lois (Reed) Olson of Collins, Iowa, was born on May 30, 1949, in Huntington, Ind. He attended Northwood-Kensett schools, where he graduated in 1967. He was a member of Boy Scouts, Demo lay and the United Methodist Church in Northwood, and was active in high school football, vocal music, drama and art. He attended NIACC in Mason City, and Mankato State College.

Mr. Olson, who lived and worked in Northwood most of his life except for several years spent working in the mines in Colorado, had been an award winning reporter and photographer for the Northwood Anchor since 1987, and was a sports reporter for the Mason City Globe Gazette from 1984 to 1987. His involvement in the community ranged from membership in a local bowling league to assisting in efforts to revitalize downtown Northwood. He was an avid fisherman, spending many pleasurable hours with friends on lakes in the Canadian wilderness. As a reporter, he held virtually a permanent spot on the sidelines at Northwood-Kensett sports events, but his heart belonged to football. He was also an enthusiastic storyteller and local historian. As a teenager, he started reading the dictionary for entertainment.

Left to cherish his memory are his parents, Guy Olson of Northwood, and Lois Olson of Collins; three sisters and their families, Susanne, Jim and Dana White of Los Angeles, Calif.; Janet, Jon, Tyler and Olivia Neuschwanger of Collins, and Jill, Frank and Evan Hilton of Des Moines; many aunts and uncles including, Ruth Reed of Huntington, Ind.; Ivan and Elaine Olson of Northwood, Opal Patterson of Greenfield, Iowa; Vivian and Dwight Irwin of Muscatine, Iowa; Bud Ambler of Huntington, Ind.; Merle and Rosalie Russell of Casa Grande, Ariz; and Dale and Nancy Olson of Dupree, Wis.; many cousins throughout Iowa and the country, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandfathers and grandmothers, Clarence and Florence Olson of Northwood, and Wallace and Effie Reed of Huntington, Ind.

WILLIAM P. 'KELLY' KELLOGG


MASON CITY - William P. "Kelly" Kellogg, 76, of 222 14th St. N.W., died Thursday (Dec. 4, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Private graveside services will be Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery, 11495 265th St., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. A flag folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. N.E., Mason City.

William P. Kellogg was born Feb. 10, 1927, at Clarion, a son of Charles and Josephine (Abbott) Kellogg. Following his schooling in Clarion, Bill served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

Bill was united in marriage to Helen M. Sharp on July 24, 1948, at Rochester, Minn.

He worked as a meat cutter at Armour for 36 years. Bill was an avid sports fan, he followed the Mason City Mohawks, Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins and Vikings.

He enjoyed bowling, garden-ing, having morning coffee in the mall with his friends and especially his family.

He was a member of the AFL-CIO meat cutters union.

Bill is survived by his wife, Helen Kellogg, Mason City; a son, Dennis Kellogg, Las Vegas, Nev.; a daughter, Billie Kellogg, Mason City; a grandson, Eric Clausen, Iowa City; and a granddaughter, Holly Clausen, Seattle, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and five sisters.

ROCKFORD - Ivan G. Wallbaum, 91, of 105 4th St. N.W., Rockford, died Thursday (Dec. 4, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

HAROLD WILLIAM 'BABE' HULSIZER

ST. ANSGAR - Harold William "Babe" Hulsizer, 85, of Oregon, Ill., died Friday (Dec. 5, 2003) in Oregon as a result of a recent stroke.

His funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Richard Bonney officiating. Burial will take place at the Woodbury Cemetery in Lyle, Minn.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home.

Harold was born on May 18, 1918, in Thornton to Fred and Rosa Hulshizer. He married Dorothy L. Greiner in 1940. To this union, two children were born, Fred and Carolyn.

He served his country in the United States Army from March 1943 to March 1946. He was in the military police, serving in the South Pacific campaign. He resided his adult life in Wisconsin and worked 40 years in the auto body business.

Survivors include his children, Fred, of Madison, Wis., and Carolyn L. Welsh and her husband, Donald, of Chana, Ill.; one brother, Dale Huls-hizer and his wife, Lois, of St. Charles, Minn.; four grand-children, four great-grandsons, and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2002; a grandson, Craig Welsh, and six brothers and one sister.

NORTHWOOD - Crissy Jean Perry, 102, of Northwood, died Friday (Dec. 5, 2003) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N., Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Stateline Cemetery, rural Northwood.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the church.

Crissy Jean Perry was born on Dec. 25, 1900, in rural Gordonsville, Minn., the daughter of C.W. and Grace (Beighley) Brown. She attended and received her education in Gordonsville. She was united in marriage to Elmer "Ole" Perry on June 6, 1919, in Albert Lea, Minn. During her life, Jean worked for various restaurants in Northwood.

She enjoyed crocheting, tatting and reading.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood, the church circles, Rebekah Lodge and the Royal Neighbor.

Left to cherish her memory are her seven children, Lorraine Berg of Albert Lea, Minn., Ilene Shinn of Northwood, Ruth C. Perry of Albert Lea, Minn., Dale Perry of Lake Mills, Earl Perry of Albert Lea, Minn., Gerald Perry of St. Paul, Minn., and Lawrence (Yvonne) Perry of Winona, Minn.; 18 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Oma Dahle, of New Hope, Minn., and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Perry; one sister, Violet Orman, and a grandson, Kenneth Berg.

NORHTWOOOD - Raymond Charles Gentz, 88, of Northwood, died Saturday (Dec. 06, 2003) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by his family.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, 2003, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 N. 9th St., Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the church.

Raymond was born on February 14, 1915, to William Sr. and Mathilda (Hansen) Gentz in Meltonville, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. He attended school in Otrano, Heartland District and District Number 5 east of Northwood. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Schmidt on March 3, 1940, at the First Lutheran Parsonage in Northwood by Reverend Tolo.

Raymond and Dorothy be-gan farming north of Kensett in 1940. In 1944, they moved east of Northwood, where they made their home for the past 60 years.

Raymond enjoyed his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed farming, fishing, playing cards and the annual Labor Day Gentz family camping trip.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 63 years, Dorothy Gentz, of Northwood; three children, Ronald Gentz and his wife, Kathy, Larry Gentz and his wife, Kathy, and David Gentz and his wife, Cheryl, all of Northwood; eight grandchildren, Darrin Gentz and his wife, Tami, of High Point, N.C., Jessica Roberts, Jared Gentz, Tony Gentz and his wife, Megan, Naomi Olson and her husband, Steven, Jacob Gentz, Hannah Gentz and Bethany Gentz, all of Northwood; seven great-grandchildren, Ryland and Jillian Gentz, Carter and Kaitlyn Roberts, Alexia Gentz, Jace Gentz and Grace Olson; a brother, William Gentz Jr. and his wife, Esther, of Northwood; a sister, Dorothy Low of Northwood; sisters-in-law, Caroline Gentz of Northwood, and Skelly Schmidt of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Carroll Dean Schmidt of Manly; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

BELMOND - Fann E. Katuin, 94, of Belmond, passed away Friday (Dec. 5, 2003) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Funeral services for Fann will be held at 1 p.m Monday at St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond with Pastor Lowell Halvorson officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m in Amsterdam Township Cemetery in Kanawha.

Friends may greet the family from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick's Lane South in Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Fann, the daughter of John and Jennie Abbas Baker was born Oct. 10, 1909, in Wright County south of Kanawha. She grew up in the Twin Lakes area near Kanawha, where she attended country school.

On February 15, 1928, Fann was united in marriage with Harm Katuin. The couple made their home and farmed in various locations in the North Central Iowa area. In 1955, the family moved to the farm near Goodell, where they farmed until Harm's death in 1973. Fann continued to live on the farm until ill health caused her to become a resident at Belmond Health Care Center in 1997.

Fann was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Belmond. She enjoyed caring for her flower garden and took great pride in her flowers.

Fann is survived by two sons, Ben Katuin and his wife, Sherley, of Goodell, and Marvin Katuin and his wife, Maryls, of Mason City; three grandchildren, Mark Katuin and his wife, Sharon, of Garner, Susan Swaroff and her husband, David, of Dayton, and Margaret Klaahsen and her husband, Curt, of Cherokee; three great-grandchildren, Lucas, Megan and Alexander; two sisters, Helen Smidt of Britt and Emma Appelhons and her husband, John, of Thompson; one brother, Albert Baker and his wife, Jeanette, of Forest City, and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harm, in 1973; two sisters, and four brothers.

CLARION - Rose Mardelle Redenius, 63, of Clarion, died Thursday (Dec. 4, 2003) at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Clarion with the Rev. Don Morrison officiating. Burial will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 today at the Willim Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St., Clarion, and one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Rose Redenius Memorial Fund.

On Jan. 1, 1960, Rose was united in marriage to Kermit Redenius at the Wright Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha. To this union five children were born.

Rose's life joy was to help her husband and her family. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, decorating for the holidays, various crafts and quilting. She made each of her children and grandchildren their own quilt with their own special message on it. Also close to her heart was her church, U.M.W. and P.E.O.

Rose is survived by her husband, Kermit; daughter Pamela Spangler and her husband, Kim, of Eagle Grove; son, Mitchell, and his wife, Stephanie, of West Des Moines; son, Michael, of San Francisco, Calif.; son, Marvin, and his wife, Chris, of Belmond; and daughter, Patricia, and fiance Jeffery Cordeiro, of Royal Palm Beach, Fla. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; Ryan and his wife, Kelly, and Rochelle, Michael, Alyssa, Matthew, Reid, Jennifer, Cassidy and Marcus. Rose is survived by her mother, Tillie Verbrugge of Kanawha; three sisters and two brothers, Marjorie Roskamp and her husband, Bernard, of Clarion; Donald Verbrugge and his wife, Deloris, of Kanawha; Nick Verbrugge and his wife, Rouletta, of Kanawha; Ruth Eekhoff and her husband, Robert, of New Era, Mich., and Lois Lamfers and her husband, Roger, of Kanawha.

She is preceded in death by her father.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 106 Chapel Lane, Charles City, with Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Charles City with military rites accorded by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City. The rosary will be recited at 5 p.m. and the scripture wake service at 7 p.m.

Cheryl Kay Bottleman was born on May 1, 1943, in Silver Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Adolph and Grace (McGarraugh) Reyerson.

She was baptized at Silver Lake Lutheran Church and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

Cheryl moved to Northwood at the age of 3 years and attended Northwood Community Schools, graduating from Northwood High School.

She was united in marriage to Duwayne Bottleman on May 19, 1962, at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

During her life, Cheryl worked for the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, baby-sat for various families in Northwood, worked for the Midway Café in Northwood and for Service Master in Mason City.

She enjoyed camping, word circle, puzzles, and visiting with neighbors, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and playing with grandchildren.

She was a member of First Lutheran Church and the church circle in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Duwayne Bottleman, of Northwood; her children and their families, Kandy During and her children, Brad Logeman and his wife, Bobbi, Brian Klitzke, and Cassandra Klitzke all of Kensett, Kelly Blake and her children, Nena Fricke and Dustin Fricke all of Kensett, Shawn Bottleman and his special friend, Teresa Carlson, and her daughter, Nichole, and Charlene Heck and her husband Joe and their son, Johnathan Heck, of Northwood; a sister, Patty Arispe of Mason City, a sister-in-law, Kay Reyerson of Kensett; and a sister-in-law who was a special care-giver, Karen Pixley of Northwood; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

MASON CITY — Max R. Clay, 75, of 1610 S. Taft Ave., died Friday (Dec. 5, 2003) at the IOOF Home in Mason City.

Memorial services are planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Stiles officiating.

Max Roger Clay was born on Aug. 5, 1928, in Marble Rock, Iowa, the youngest of four children of Lloyd Arthur Clay and Della (Witter) Clay.

The Clays moved to Mason City in 1936. Max graduated from Mason City High School in 1946 and enlisted in the U.S. Army later that year.

He was stationed in Japan where, as a photographer, he did extensive work covering war crime trials and the activities of Gen. Douglas MacArthur.

Following his honorable discharge in 1947, he studied accounting at Hamilton Business College in Mason City for two years.

He was united in marriage with Beverly Jean Helland on Aug. 16, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple lived from that point forward in Central Heights.

Max was self-employed most of his life. He ran Clay Venetian Blind and Window Company and later the M.R. Clay Company. He also worked for Shell Oil Company and for A.B. Dick in Mason City.

Max learned to play accordion while in his teens and he retained a passion for old- time polka music throughout his life.

He loved Lake Superior, Duluth, Minn. and made regular trips to the north woods with family and friends over the years.

Max retained an active interest in photography throughout his life.

He was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.

Max is survived by his wife, Beverly; and their three children, a son, Steven and his wife, Julie Harrison, of New York City; a daughter, Susan Bless and her fiancé, Doug Bartleson, of Jewell, Iowa; a daughter, Kathy Hungsberg and her husband, Russell, of Loveland, Colo.; five grandchildren, Ruby and Naomi Harrison-Clay, Heather Bless, and Jacob and Justin Hungsberg; and one great-grandchild, Dylan Bless. He is also survived by three sisters, Mary Saug, Kathyrn Andon, and Charlotte Sinnott, all of Mason City.

CEDAR FALLS — James Edward Crimmings, 90, of Cedar Falls, died Sunday (Dec. 7, 2003) at Sartori Memorial Hospital.

He was born Oct. 1, 1913, son of James and Bertha Molsberry Crimmings. He married Bernece Rita Fidler on May 12, 1941 in Kingsley.

Mr. Crimmings attended Luther College and graduated from Buena Vista College. He was a teacher and coach for many years with schools in Belmond, Carroll, Mason City Newman, Rockford, Osage and Glidden and La Junta and Las Animas, Colo., retiring in 1980.

He was a professional ball player in the 1930s and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his wife’s two sons, Timothy of Mason City and James Michael (Aida) of Bonita, Calif.; two daughters, Dian (George) Galloway, of Sterling, Va., and Jody Fitzgerald, of Waterloo; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris, Linus and John; and five sist ers, Loretta, Grace and Alice Crimmings, Marian Daily and Bernadine Rourke.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Waterloo, with entombment in Mount Olivet Mausoleum. Military rites will be conducted by Waterloo AMVETS Post 19 and Evansdale AMVETS Post 31.

Raymond was a farmer and also worked at Jacob E. Decker Co. for 26 years.

Alma was united in marriage to Andrew Christiansen on May 2, 1942, in Seattle, Wash.

Alma was a faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She worked at the Northwood Retirement Home as an aide.

Alma was a very gifted baker, she loved to make delicious Norwegian treats for her family and friends to enjoy. Alma had a deep love of gardening, she invested a great deal of time to her garden every season of the year.

When Alma was not in her garden she was creating some beautiful needlework to share as gifts to her family and friends.

Alma was a family person, she loved to spend time with her family whenever she could.

James was born March 27, 1910, in Iowa City, the son of John Edward Coonley Sr. and Sadie Trier. He graduated from Hampton High School.

James was united in marriage to Joan M. Wilson.

He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.

James was admitted to the practice of law in 1934, after studying under Judge Evans, then Chief Justice of the Iowa Supreme Court.

He was Franklin county attorney from 1935 to 1943 and during that time prosecuted the first successful drunken driving case using a blood test as evidence of intoxication.

He was the Hampton City attorney from 1972 to the present time.

He was licensed to practice before the United States Supreme Court.

James was past president of the Franklin County Bar Association and was also active at the state level with the Iowa State Bar Association.

He practiced law uninterrupted for 69 years and was still active in the practice of law with the Coonley & Coonley Law Firm up to the time of his death.

James was involved in several banking organizations over the years culminating in the formation of United Bank and Trust Company. He was chairman of the board for the bank at the time of his death.

He was a member of Anchor Lodge # 191 and was also a member of the El Kahir Shrine. He was past president of the Hampton Kiwanis Club.

James hobbies included horseback riding, golf, and travel.

He is survived by his wife, Joan Mary Coonley, of Hampton; son, John E. and his wife, Elaine Coonley, of Hampton; two grandsons, John Jr. and Philip Coonley, both of Hampton; nieces, Laurie Warfel, of Wheaton, Ill., and Jennifer LaBonte, of Payson, Ariz.; nephew, Mike Wilson, of Iowa City; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Cleve and wife, Marilyn Wilson, of Parkersburg.

Pat was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Davenport, where she served on the Congregation Council, volunteered as an Open Door host and was a member of the Welcoming Team. She was a Red Cross disaster volunteer, a member of the Women Building Community, served as a United Way distribution panel member and was also a member of the Executive Women’s Golf Association.

Pat enjoyed playing golf, traveling and music.

ALTOONA, Fla. — Clifford Raymond Krantz, son of Raymond and Louise (Weiland) Krantz, was born Jan. 22, 1915, on a farm in Kossuth County, Iowa.

He was married June 15, 1938, to Raemond Koestler, daughter of George and Lydia Koestler, of Burt.

He died Saturday (Dec. 6, 2003) at the Lakeview Terrace Retirement Community in Altoona, Fla., where he and Rae have resided since March 2000. His death was preceded by a long bout with Alzheimer’s disease and other complications.

While still very young, Cliff became active in his father’s farming and livestock business in the Titonka area. At the age of 13, he was driving truckloads of cattle and hogs to market. A driver’s license was not required at that time.

Cliff furthered his education at Hamilton Business College in Mason City and Iowa State University.

At the age of 28, he and Rae bought their first farm. He continued farming fulltime until he retired in 1977, and then part-time until moving to Florida.

He was a long-time member of the National Cattleman’s Association and the Kossuth County Farm Bureau.

As a promoter of better education, he served on the local school board, then was elected to the newborn Kossuth County Board of Education, of which he was a member throughout its 27 years of existence.

He served on the building committees for the Good Hope Lutheran parsonage and the Titonka Care Center.

It was not until retirement that he found two consuming hobbies, golfing and square dancing, which he enjoyed very much.

Clifford was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Louise Krantz; brothers, Harold and Kenneth; sisters, Lila Mae (infant) and Marian (Dayle) Bruns; and daughter Kathryn (infant).

She graduated from Montezuma High School and went on to graduate from Iowa State Teachers College. Marjorie then taught school in Kellogg, Iowa, before her marriage.

On June 11, 1938, Marjorie was united in marriage with Clell (Van) Bruce VanDeventer at the Park Avenue Presbyterian Church in Des Moines. The couple lived in various cities in Iowa before settling in Crystal Lake.

Most recently, Marjorie moved to Estherville to be near her daughter.

Marjorie was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, the United Methodist Women of Crystal Lake and a neighborhood coffee group.

Marjorie is survived by one son, James VanDeventer of Post Falls, Idaho; three daughters, Carol Feddern and her husband, Gary, of Estherville, Mary Griffin and her husband, David, of Holly Lake Ranch, Texas, and Lynne Scheuler and her husband, Gordon, of Fairbury, Neb.; five grandchildren; and one great- grandchild.

Lenard enjoyed fishing, sight-seeing, family gatherings and spending time with his children, grandchildren and friends.

MASON CITY — Robert “Bob” Sinnott, 81, of 817 N. Adams Ave., died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at Mercy Medical Center- North Iowa.

A memorial Mass will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Inurnment will be held at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date. Military honors will be conducted by members of Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

The family will greet friends from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. with a scriptural wake service at 5:30 p.m.

Robert Martin Sinnott, the son of William and Myrtle (Cullins) Sinnott was born June 12, 1922, at Mason City. He received his education from the Mason City School System. While in high school he participated in the American Legion Iowa Boys State Activities. After graduation he attended Mason City Junior College.

After college, Bob worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., and Salt Lake City. He attended Louisiana State College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On March 12, 1943, he enlisted in the United States Army/Air Force. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 25, 1946. After the military, Bob worked for Montgomery Ward in Mason City and Chicago. In 1955 Bob established Sinnott Realty.

Bob enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling and playing cards.

He was a lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #101, a life member of the Elks, and a member of the Mason City Night Lions.

Bob is survived by his wife, Charlotte, of Mason City, three sons, Danny Sinnott of Reno, Nev., Michael and Dalene Sinnott of Cedar Rapids, and William and Shirley Sinnott of Waterloo; five grandchildren, Michael Jr. and Matthew Sinnott of Cedar Rapids, Mark and Sarah Sinnott of Cedar Falls, and Megan and Melissa Sinnott of Waterloo. Also surviving is one sister-in-law, Genevieve Sinnott, of Oceanside, Calif.; and one brother-in-law, Chuck Sernett of Bella Vista, Ark.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Arnold Sinnott, one sister Betty Sernett, and one granddaughter Michelle Sinnott.

Lenny had a lifelong love of music. An accomplished guitarist, he especially enjoyed sharing and teaching his gift of music with children.

CLEAR LAKE - Amanda Spalding, 90, formerly of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2003) in Lake City, Minn.

Amanda was born Nov. 3, 1913, in Wanda, Minn., to Max and Elsie (Holznagel) Darkow. She attended Mankato School of Beauty in Mankato.

On May 15, 1937, she married Paul A. Spalding. They resided in Wanda, Minn., Pomeroy, Iowa, and Clear Lake. She moved to Lake City, Minn., in 1995. Amanda was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

She is survived by a son, Nyle Spalding and his wife, Barbara, Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Maxyne Gillice and her husband, Robert, Arvada, Colo., and Paulette Clare and her husband, Arnie, Reads Landing, Minn.; two granddaughters, Amy McCormick and her husband, Mike, Boulder, Colo., and Sara Miller and her husband, Dan, Naperville, Ill.; one great-granddaughter, Ava Claire Miller; one sister, Rosemary Bloedow, Redwood Falls, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY - Robert F. "Bob" McLaughlin, 75, of Mason City, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A funeral Mass will be at noon Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 314 Fifth St. S.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Bob was born June 18, 1928, in Des Moines, a son of Robert M. and Marie (Lynch) McLaughlin. He was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cummings.

A 1945 graduate of Des Moines Lincoln High School, Bob was treasurer of his class and received a letter in basketball.

He was united in marriage to Mary O'Boyle on June 21, 1947, at St. Ambrose Cathedral in Des Moines.

In 1947, Bob began his successful 50-year career with O'Dea Finance/Banker's Leasing Company. Starting as a file clerk, Bob ultimately served as president of the company living in both Mason City and Des Moines during his career.

Throughout his life, Bob had a passion for his family, friends and community.

After moving to Mason City in 1953, Bob served as president of the Holy Family School Board, assisted in forming the Newman Booster Club and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus, Elks and Kiwanis Clubs.

Bob was co-founder of Mason City Little League Baseball in 1958, running it for over 25 years.

Bob was honored for his service to the Mason City community by receiving the prestigious Sertoma Service to Mankind Award in 1984.

He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and a proud member of the Elks Coffee Club Group.

An avid Iowa Hawkeye, Notre Dame and Chicago Cubs fan, what Bob loved more than anything in this world was his family and friends.

He had an incredible gift of connecting with people, especially children. He forever touched the lives and hearts of anyone who knew him.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 56 years, Mary McLaughlin, of Mason City; three children, daughter, Jan Larson and her husband, Bob, of Albert Lea, Minn.; son, John and his wife, Kathy, of Mason City; son, Jeff, of Albert Lea, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Amy and her husband Charlie, Nicol and her husband Jon, Russel and his friend Stephanie, Jessee and his wife Adrienne, Katie, Michael and his wife Julie, Kyle, Dylan, Riley and Ryan; 11 great-grandchildren, Laura, Kelly, Ben, Taylor, Melanie, Danielle, Samantha, Josie, Sunni, Hannah, and Katelyn; a brother, Patrick and his wife, Darlene; a sister-in-law, Joan McLaughlin; a sister-in-law, Josephine Reeck and her husband, Norman; an aunt, Marg Weil; as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and countless friends.

CLEAR LAKE - Michelle Lynn "Shelley" Simmer, 42, 117 Fourth Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at her home.

Shelley was born Sept. 1, 1961, in Mason City, the daughter of Merle Marshall and Jane Coyier. She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1980.

Shelley worked at the Mile Post 194 as a waitress for many years. She also worked at Martha's Maid rite.

Shelley married Tom Simmer on Sept 15, 1984, at Zion Lutheran Church.

Shelley loved to listen to music and watch "her stories" (soap operas).

She enjoyed seeing her children in school events and being with them.

She also liked to ride horses and motorcycles.

Shelley has battled diabetes for over 32 years, but always had a cheerful outlook. She loved knowing the angels were always at her side.

She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

NORTHWOOD - Arthur "Art" M. Bendickson, 77, of Northwood, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at the Manly Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Manly.

The family of Arthur M. Bendickson has requested that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of North Iowa or to the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa Cancer Center in Mason City in his memory.

Art Bendickson was born on April 21, 1926, in Emmons, Minn., the son of George and Luella (Hanson) Bendickson, the first of four children. He attended school at Lake Mills and graduated from Emmons High School.

He was inducted into the U.S. Navy serving overseas during World War II. He was discharged in 1948.

He was united in marriage to Eunice Schilling on May 29, 1949, at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Myrtle, Minn.

Art worked as a mechanic for Chrysler garages in Albert Lea, Minn., and Northwood for 25 years, and was the Worth County shop mechanic for 15 years until his retirement in 1987.

He enjoyed fishing, camping and attending athletic events, especially Waldorf College games.

Art was very active and life member in "Our Buddies" VFW Memorial Post #6779 of Northwood. He also held positions in the 3rd district VFW. He was veterans affairs commissioner for Worth County for many years.

While his sons were growing up, he was Boy Scout leader for a number of years.

When the grandchildren from Omaha came to visit, he would take them fishing to area lakes, which they always looked forward to.

Art was afflicted with cancer 10 years ago, with frequent reoccurrences, but never complained having treatments many times. He was one of the honorary chairpersons for the Relay for Life in Northwood in 2001. He lost a valiant battle from cancer on Monday, Dec. 8.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

NORA SPRINGS - Clarence W. Koppen, 86, of 403 E. Congress, Nora Springs, died Monday (Dec. 8, 2003) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient in Mason City.

Clarence William, the son of William and Clara (Neilson) Koppen, was born Oct. 19, 1917, in rural Rockwell. He was educated in the country schools near Rockwell.

After his schooling, he helped his father on the family farm as well as numerous other area farmers.

Clarence was married to Phyllis Rheingans on Sept. 25, 1937, in Mason City. He worked for Jacob E. Decker & Sons Company.

In 1945 he entered the United States Army and was discharged in 1946.

After the military, he returned to Jacob E. Decker & Sons Company. He worked there for a short time before working at Lehigh Portland Cement Company, where he retired from in 1982.

Clarence enjoyed spending time with his family, working with his horses, going for drives, watching his granddaughters play softball, dancing and watching the Lawrence Welk Show. He was an avid Cubs fan.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Nora Springs, the American Legion Gallagher Post #208 of Rockwell, and the Mason City Moose Lodge.

Clarence is survived by two sons, William H. "Bill" Koppen and his wife, Jerrie, of Nora Springs, and Clarence Koppen Jr. and his wife, Shirley, of Red Oak; one daughter, Kathryn Brodersen and her husband, Steven, of Manly, Iowa. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, Kandace (Bill) Klumper, the Rev. Randy (Sandy) Koppen, Tammy (Wayne) Prazak, Julie (Chad) McKee, Jill Koppen, Amanda (Mike) Berding, and Brooke and Angela Brodersen; seven great-grandchildren; three sisters, Jean (Paris) DiGregorio of Henry, Ill., Marcille Murphy and Sharon (Paul) Bamrick, both of Rockwell; two sisters-in-law, Mae Frenz and Maxine (Walter) Stoltenberg; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Norma Grekoff of Nora Springs.

Gen enjoyed jazz music and attending jazz festivals. She also loved going to the Surf Ballroom for the Buddy Holly reunion, and dancing all night.

She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational in Clarion, the Birthday Club, and the Grandma's Club.

ALONA BELLE (TEDDER) SPADARO


RIVERSIDE, Calif. - A graveside service for the cremated remains of Alona Bellle (Tedder) Spadaro will be conducted at 2 p.m Friday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City, with the Rev. Robert R. Beery Jr. officiating. She died from complications due to liver disease on Dec. 19, 2002, in Riverside, Calif.

She was born Jan. 14, 1944, in John Day, Sherman County, Ore., the third of six children to Elvin Bryan and Helen Virginia (Schoonmaker) Tedder. She grew up in North Central Iowa, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1962.

On Oct. 6, 1962, she was united in marriage to Boyd Levi Foreman Jr., in Clear Lake whom she later divorced. Two children were born to this marriage. Loni Lyn and Beau James. On Dec. 24, 1983, in Las Vegas, she married a second time to Jack Joseph Spadaro Jr. and was blessed with a wedded life of 19 years before her death.

Besides her husband, Jack, she is survived by two children; one daughter, Loni Lyn Vogler of Hemet, Calif.; and a son, Beau James and his wife, Jamie LaNel, Foreman of Orange, Calif.; four grandsons, Jordan James Foreman, Paul Cameron Vogler, Jeffery Joseph Foreman, Zachary Glen Vogler; one granddaughter, Roxanne Marie Vogler; three sisters, Mrs. Darrel R. Tedder, living in the Philippines; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends who will sadly miss her.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William Alexander and Dollie Edith (Petitt) Tedder; Ira Alonzo and Clara Belle (Fletcher) Schoonmaker; her parents, Elvin Bryan and Helen Virginia (Schoonmaker) Tedder; and a brother, Donald William Tedder.

ROCKWELL - Marlene R. Pruin, 67, of 9644 Partridge Ave., died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 2003) at her home with her family at her side.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the Rockwell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City.
