In 1967, Betty married Richard Harry Dunn and adopted his three children, Larry, Thomas and MaryJayne. They raised these two families as one.

Betty was considered “MOM” to all the kids in the extended neighborhood. The “funny farm,” as she fondly referred to it, always had room for more.

She involved the “kids” in all kinds of activities, whether it was playing games and cards, or making veggie stew or apple crisp, for which there was always ice cream. “MOM” always had time to listen to the kids’ stories and problems.

Betty’s childhood activities included being a Girl Scout and class spelldown champ. She took great pride in and excelled in math.

Betty was well-known for her skills as a seamstress, sewing for herself, family and friends. She was especially proud of her girls’ “dance costumes,” which were always sewn to perfection.

Betty will probably be remembered best by her classmates for her role as class of ’43 correspondent and newsperson. In later years, she and Dick were well known for their efforts in organizing the Mason City breakfasts in Arizona.

Her children, Jane (Doug) Angell, Helen Jackley, Larry (Lisa Holland) Dunn, Tom (Rita) Dunn and MaryJayne Schmidt survive Elizabeth. Grandchildren Joshua Morse, Nathan (Victoria) Morse, Bradly Angell, Allison Angell, Tyler Dunn, Tucker Dunn, Zachary Holland-Dunn, Parker Holland-Dunn, Meredith Dunn, Gabriel Dunn, Jillian Dunn, Ann Schmidt, Haley Dunn, Dakota Lewis, and her great-grandchildren, Griffin Morse and Mia Angell, survive her. She is also survived by her siblings, Joel (Joyce) Hanes, Mason City; Edward (Billie) Hanes, Clear Lake; Dorothy Stone, Wisconsin, and Barbara Roberts, Illinois.
