VENTURA - Richard R. Skene, 92, of 14476 Balsam Ave. died Friday (Aug. 31, 2001) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

HELEN MAE ROST

CHILLICOTHE, Mo. - Helen Mae Rost, 89, of 1028 Grandview St. in Chillicothe, died Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001) at Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe, Mo.

Her memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton with the Rev. Gregory Smith officiating. Inurnment will be at Hampton Cemetery.

LESTER GENE 'BUD' FOLEY

CORWITH - Funeral services for Lester Gene "Bud" Foley, 54, of Corwith, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith, with the Rev. Daniel Greving and the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Corwith, with military honors by the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 of Corwith.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Corwith, with a 7 p.m. rosary.

Lester Gene "Bud" Foley was born on Dec. 2, 1946, at Fort Dodge, Iowa, the youngest child of Harry and Elizabeth Mettille Foley. He received his education in Corwith, graduating from the Corwith High School in 1965.

Bud served his country in the U.S. Army from 1967-1968, and was awarded medals for his service in the Vietnam War.

He was married to Nancy Vickers Walker on Dec. 28, 1985, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith.

Bud had worked for Kabrick Distributing Company in Britt, Iowa, for the past 22 years.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Corwith. Bud also was a member of the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 in Corwith.

He enjoyed spending time with his family, friends and co-workers, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, custom car shows, drag racing, late model dirt track racing, carpentry and yard work.

Bud died early Friday (Aug. 31, 2001, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City at the age of 54.

Bud is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Corwith; and two stepsons, Daryl Walker and wife, Ann, of Mound City, Mo., and Lanny Walker and wife, Dr. Vicki Walker, of Vermillion, S.D. Also surviving are five grandchildren, James, Willy, Heather, Alexa and Michael; and two sisters, Mary Schutjer and husband, Wendal, of Wesley, and Pat Boysen and husband, Gene, of Grand Island, Neb. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and his dog Libby.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Michael and Dennis.

WALTER C. RUEHLOW

OSAGE - Walter Charles Ruehlow, 92, of Osage died Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Walter was born June 4, 1909, in St. Ansgar, the son of Charlie and Ida (Duenow) Ruehlow.

He was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Toeterville. He was confirmed at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Rock Township, rural Osage. He graduated from Otranto High School in May of 1930.

On June 14, 1933, Walter was united in marriage to Dorothy Mae Beck at her parents' home northwest of Osage. They made their home on a farm near Osage, where they farmed for 60 years, until moving to Osage in 1994. Walter also hauled milk for Twin Cedar Dairy.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage.

During their retirement, Walt and Dorothy enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. His love was playing cards with his many friends and enjoying his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and attending their sports events. Walter also enjoyed having a game of cribbage with his grandsons.

His funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage, with the Rev. Christian F. Gugel officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and one hour before services on Tuesday at the church.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Ruehlow, of Osage; son, Charles Ruehlow and his wife, Lois, of Osage and their sons, Darwin, Terry, Steve, Michael and James; one daughter, Janice Duenow, of Osage, and her daughters, Laura Duenow and Janelle Dokken; 15 great-grandchildren; and on half sister, Viola Ehlke, of Osage.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a stepbrother, Roy Rachut.

JEANETTE MILDRED OLSON

KANAWHA - Jeanette Mildred Olson, 95, of Kanawha, passed away Thursday (Aug. 30, 2001) at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services for Jeanette Olson will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the First Lutheran Church in Kanawha with the Rev. Dr. William H. Breen, interim pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in Norway Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.

Ewing Dugger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jeanette, the daughter of Severt and Ragnhild Nerheim Jacobson, was born April 21, 1906, at Story City. In 1914, she moved with her parents to a farm near Kanawha, where she received her education.

Jeanette was confirmed at the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church until it closed in 1993 and she transferred to Kanawha Lutheran. She was an active member of St. John's ELCW.

Jeanette was united in marriage with Joe Olson on Dec. 29, 1926, at the Lutheran parsonage in Kanawha. She and Joe moved to Kanawha in 1968. Joe passed away March 9, 1970.

Jeanette enjoyed flowers, gardening and crocheting. She entered the Kanawha Community Home on Feb. 18, 1998.

She is survived by three sisters, Almina Jacobson, of Mason City, Selma Braun, of Mankato, Minn., and Lillian Naussner, of Clear Lake; one niece, Noreen Roberts; two nephews, Ronald Dempsey and Steve Braun; three great-nieces and two great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three brothers.

DORANCE 'OLE' EUGENE LAUDEN SR.

THORNTON - Dorance "Ole" Eugene Lauden Sr., 74, of Thornton passed away Wednesday (Aug. 29, 2001) at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Funeral services for Dorance E. "Ole" Lauden Sr. will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 2, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will take place in the Amsterdam cemetery near Goodell.

Visitation for Dorance E. "Ole" Lauden Sr. will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church.

Dorance, the son of Clarence and Velma Pannhoff Lauden, was born May 20, 1927, in Klemme. He attended Country Schools in the Belmond and Rowan area. He worked for a time at General Mills in Belmond.

On Aug. 1, 1948, Dorance was united in marriage to Lucille Petersen in Hampton. The couple made their home south of Belmond where they were involved in farming.

In 1951 they moved to the Thornton/Rockwell/Swaledale area where they continued farming. Ole never really retired as a farmer.

Ole enjoyed driving his Cadillac in area parades. He loved playing horseshoes and watching others play when he couldn't play anymore. He also enjoyed playing cards. The card game "500" was Ole's game.

Ole also enjoyed watching his granddaughters dance, whether they were competing or just dancing for fun. The highlights of his life were his grandchildren and his great-grandchildren. When it came to them, Ole was ever loving and ever accepting.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond. The church was very important to him.

Dorance is survived by his wife, Lucille; one daughter, Candace Gossweiler and her husband, Steve, of Mason City; and one son, Dorance Jr. and Nancy, of Goodell; four grandchildren, Heather, Misty, Heath and Tiffany; four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, and his special dog, Jake.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Donald.
