DONALD L. FARRER

LATIMER - Donald L. Farrer, 71, of Latimer, died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at his home.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will be in the Alexander Cemetery in Alexander.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Immanuel United Church of Christ in Latimer.

Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home in Latimer is in charge of arrangements.

Donald L. Farrer was born Jan. 29, 1930 in South Dakota to Henry and Pearl (Anderson) Farrer. He was educated in Franklin General Consolidated Schools in Latimer.

He was united in marriage to Eileen Johnson on Sept. 4, 1948 in Nashua.

Don and Eileen owned Farrers Grocery Store in Latimer for 26 years and the Latimer Café for 10 years.

He was a member of the Immanuel United Church of Christ.

Don enjoyed his horses, the outdoors, taking trips to Oklahoma with his wife, Eileen; and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by three sons, Michael Farrer and his wife, Elaine, of Flower Mound, Texas, Dennis Farrer and his wife, Velora, of Elgin, Okla., and Delray Farrer and his wife, Sharon, of Latimer; one sister, June Green, of Spartanburg, S.C.; grandchildren, Jonathan, Jennifer and Jeannette, of Flower Mound, Texas, Kristin, Laura, and Andy, of Latimer; as well as nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Eileen.

LESTER OLSON

MASON CITY - Lester Olson, 88, of Mason City, died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

Graveside services will be Noon on Friday at the Riverside Cemetery in Blue Earth, Minn. with the Rev. Stephen Bohling of Trinity Lutheran Church in Blue Earth officiating.

There will be no visitation. Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.

Lester Olson was born on Aug. 5, 1912, in Fairmont, Minn., the son of Lewis and Martha (Foss) Olson. He attended and received his education in the rural Faribault County School system.

Lester worked for various farmers and road construction companies, prior to working at the Brick & Tile Company in Mason City for several years until his retirement.

Lester enjoyed going for walks, and visiting with family and friends.

Left to cherish his memory is his brother, Walter Olson, of Mohave, Ariz.; two sisters, Beatrice Hugoson, of Fairmont, Minn., and Sarah Clark, of Worthington, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; and special friends, David and Judy Ackerman, of Rock Falls, and Deanna Morrill, of Mason City; as well as other relatives and friends.

His parents, seven sisters, and six brothers preceded him in death.

EDNA M. GREEN

CLEAR LAKE - Edna M. Green, 93, of Clear Lake, formerly of Mason City, passed away on Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave. in Mason City, with Father Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will take place at St. Peter's Cemetery in New Haven, Iowa.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N. E. in Mason City, with a vigil service at 6 p.m.

Edna was born on March 18, 1908 in New Haven, Iowa to John S. and Mary (Kirst) Wagner. She married Leon P. Green on May 25, 1931 in New Haven.

Edna was an accomplished musician. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in New Haven, and MacPhail School of Arts in Minneapolis.

Edna was a very devoted to her children, especially Yvonne with whom she spent her entire lifetime and her grandchildren.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and its Roseanne Circle, church organist for 20 years and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas.

Edna is survived by her three sons, Gervin (Georgene) Green, and Willy (Pam) Green, both of Mason City and John (Tony) Green, of Clear Lake; daughter, Yvonne; 11 grandchildren, Jude, Joe, Tom, Chris, Mary, Therese, Amy, Mindy, Matt, Lee, and Scott; and 14 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon, in 1963; and grandson, William, in 1960.

AGNES M. CLAPSADDLE

MASON CITY - Agnes M. Clapsaddle, age 97, of Mason City, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S. E. in Mason City, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with a Catholic Daughters of the Americas/Athenian Study Club Rosary being held at 4:30 p.m. and a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m.

WENDY J. HAVNEN

MASON CITY - Wendy J. Havnen, 48, of Andover, Kan., formerly of Mason City, died Sunday (June 17, 2001) at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kan.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with the Rev. Scott Holmes, of Grace United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and also for one hour prior to services on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to the Wendy J. Havnen Memorial Fund.

Wendy was born Feb. 14, 1953 in Mason City, the daughter of James and Lois (Kisner) Foreman. Her early years were spent in Mason City and she graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1971.

Wendy was united in marriage to Donovan Havnen on July 31, 1971 in Nora Springs. She was a lifelong homemaker.

Those thankful for having shared in Wendy's life include her husband, Don Havnen, of Andover, Kan.; three sons, Jeremy Havnen and his wife, Debbie, of Metairie, La., Jon Havnen, of New Orleans, La., and Andrew Havnen, of Andover, Kan.; her mother and stepfather, Lois and Jerry Rickman of Drasco, Ariz.; one sister, Cynthia Jorgenrud and her husband, Jerry, of Anoka, Minn.; one brother, Lon Foreman and his wife, Nina, of Pangburn, Ariz.; one grandson, Jeremy Havnen Jr., of Metairie, La.; a special aunt and uncle, Duane and Suzanne Kisner, of Nora Springs; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Wendy was preceded in death by her father in 1978.

DELPHINE FRANCIS SUTER

MASON CITY - Delphine Francis Suter, 84, of 621 S. Taylor Ave., died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. According to her wishes she was cremated.

Memorial services will be held at Noon on Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S. E. Mason City, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Inurnment will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with an 8 p.m. Scriptural wake service. There will be additional visitation one hour before services on Friday at the church.

Memorials will be used to set up a Nursing Scholarship at NIACC or be given to Hospice of North Iowa.

Delphine was born Feb. 14, 1917 in Mason City, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Julia (McGrath) Shovein. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in Mason City in 1935 and then in 1938 graduated from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital as a Registered Nurse in the nursery until her marriage to Gerold (Babe) Suter on Sept. 14, 1940 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

In 1957 Delphine went back to work at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in the Nursery and continued to work there until her retirement in 1978. After her retirement she continued to do volunteer work at the gift shop at the hospital.

Delphine was very active in St. Joseph Nursing Alumni and the March of Dimes. She enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and especially being with her family. She enjoyed watching the Hawkeye basketball games and the NIACC Women's basketball games.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

Delphine is survived by her five children, Anne Ciska and her husband, Stephen, of Mason City; Jim Suter and his wife, Janet, of Rochester, Minn.; Mary Oertel and her husband, John, of Mason City; Catherine Alcorn, of Clear Lake; and Kevin Suter and his wife, Constance, of Las Cruces, N.M.; 14 grandchildren Marc, Elizabeth and Allyson Ciska, Adam and Sean Suter, Julia Deets and her husband, Chris, and Teresa Oertel, Delphine, Joseph, James, Peter and John Suter; one great-grandchild, Andrew Deets; and one brother, John Shovein and his wife, Madeline, of Paradise, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerold; infant son, Charles; two granddaughters, Sophia Suter and Katie Oertel; son-in-law, Dr. Harry Alcorn; brother, James Shovein; and a sister, Elizabeth Oulman.

KATHLEEN L. HAMILTON-GILLEN

WATERLOO - Kathleen L. Hamilton-Gillen, 37, of Waterloo, died on Friday (June 15, 2001) at the Allen Memorial Hospital Emergency Room. Cause of death pending results of an autopsy.

She was born April 9, 1964 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of Kenneth and Darlene Baldwin Hamilton. She married Robert Gillen on June 9, 1985 in Waterloo. They were legally separated at the time of her death.

Survivors include her mother, Darlene Pope, of Mason City; her father, Kenneth Hamilton of Waterloo; four sons, Nathen Gillen, James Gillen and Dalton Gillen, all of Riceville and Jerry Newell Jr. of Waterloo; her husband, Robert Gillen, of Riceville; four brothers, Steve Hamilton, of Lyle, Minn., Kevin Eugene Hamilton, of Waterloo, Kenneth Hamilton of Canton, Ohio, and Brian Reick, of Mason City; four sisters, Virginia Hawthorne of Angola, Ind., Lonna Petra and Dawn Hamilton, both of Waterloo, and April Lalor, of Eagle Grove; and her maternal grandmother, Loetta Baldwin, of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Walter and Alma Hamilton; and maternal grandfather, Kenneth Baldwin.

The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Garden View Chapel, 3655 Logan Ave. in Waterloo, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. Friends may call Friday from noon until services at the chapel.

AMY LYNN BAUER-SPRINGER

CRESTON - Amy Lynn Bauer-Springer, 22, of 902 N. Oak, died Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Greater Community Hospital as of the result of an automobile accident.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Coen-Beaty-Pearson Family Funeral Service in Creston, with the Rev. Dr. Byron Lamun officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Creston.

Visitation was held on Thursday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Amy Lynn Bauer-Springer Memorial Fund.

Amy was born on Oct. 26, 1978, in Carroll, to Deborah (Bauer) Springer and Rich Springer. She graduated from Creston High School in 1997.

She was a Certified Nurses Aide at Crest Haven Care Center.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Creston.

She is survived by her parents, Deborah and Rich Springer, of Creston; one son, Kole Bauer, of Creston; grandparents, Dan and Polly Bauer, of Creston, and Charles and Zada Springer, of Clear Lake; sisters, Mindi Jones and her husband, Brett, of Council Bluffs, and Cally Springer and Susan Springer, both of Creston.

BETTY LOU (SCARCELLO) CROLLEY

MANLY - Betty Lou (Scarcello) Crolley, died Friday, June 15, 2001, at the University Medical Center in Las Vegas, Nev.

In Betty's early years she was a beautician, interior decorator and operator of several restaurants in California. In later years, Betty enjoyed bingo, baking and crocheting. Betty was a very outgoing person who took in many needy people.

Betty was born in Buckeye on March 3, 1924, and spent her early childhood in Manly.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Marla Gaubatz and her husband, James, of Plymouth; one brother, Del and his wife, Mary Scarcello, of Pueblo, Colo.; two sisters, Mary Linton and Minerva Cordell, of Las Vegas, Nev.; four grandchildren, Monica Haxton, Tina Gaubatz, Joseph Gaubatz and his wife, Kim, and Nicole Gaubatz; eight great-grandchildren, Erin and Kaitlyn Haxton, Heather, Justin and Bobbie Jo Brady, Gabreyl and Grayson Gaubatz, and Kyle Prahm, all of Mason City.

Betty was preceded in death by her father and mother, James Scarcello and Mable (Mishler) Scarcello; four brothers, John, James, Sam and Francis Scarcello; and two sisters, Rose Farrell, of Narco, Calif., and Elizabeth Crosser, of Iowa Falls.

Betty will be interred at a later date in Rock Falls. A memorial service is pending.

GERD HENKEN

CRYSTAL LAKE - Gerd Henken, 73, of Crystal Lake, passed away Tuesday (June 19, 2001) at Mercy Medical Care Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

The funeral for Gerd Henken will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, with Father Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will take place in the Concord Cemetery in Garner. The Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit will conduct military services.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour before services at the church.

Gerd, the son of Fred and Della Spear Henken, was born Oct. 25, 1927, at Titonka. He was inducted into the United States Army in December 1950 and served his country until December 1952.

Gerd married Dorothy Cooper in February 1954. He was married to Betty Hauptly in September 1971. Gerd was employed at Winnebago Industries and Allied Construction until his retirement.

Gerd attended St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt. He was a member of the American Legion Post of Crystal Lake and was a past commander of the Garner V.F.W. He enjoyed fishing and playing in cribbage tournaments with his friends.

Gerd is survived by his special friend, Emily Benson, of Crystal Lake; three sons, Greg and his wife, Denise, of Forest City, Michael and his wife, Karen, of Le Center, Minn., and Scott and his wife, Theresa, of Truman, Minn.; three daughters, Valerie Swensen of St. Peter, Minn., Crystal Henken, of Le Center, Minn., and Tammy Schnider and her husband, Gary, of Le Sueur, Minn.; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Kirschbaum, of Crystal Lake, and Katherine Helland, of Sun Lake, Ariz.; and one sister-in-law, Janice Henken, of Crystal Lake.

Gerd was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Betty and Dorothy; one brother, Fred Jr.; sister, Ruth Wheeler; two brothers-in-law, Harold Wheeler and Vincent Kirschbaum.

Agnes was born on Feb. 11, 1904, in Belmond, the daughter of Patrick and Mayme (Lister) Dillon. She graduated from Belmond High School and attended Iowa State Teacher's College. She taught for one year in a country school and then moved to Corwith, where she taught first grade.

In Corwith, Agnes met Robert J. Clapsaddle. They were married on June 7, 1929, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond. They operated a grocery store in Corwith for several years.

Bob later went to work for the Standard Oil Co., and they lived in Humboldt, Spencer and Clarion. The couple moved to Mason City in 1942.

For many years Agnes was manager of the fashion floor of Montgomery Ward in Mason City, and she later assisted her husband as manager of the Knights of Columbus Clubrooms.

Agnes was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and St. Francis Circle. She was a Eucharistic minister for many years. She was an officer of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women and a past Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She belonged to the Athenian and Joyce Kilmer Study Clubs and several bridge clubs.

Agnes is survived by two children, Betty Lou Lapointe and her husband, Francis E., and Charles Clapsaddle, all of Mason City; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Major James and Major Andra Clapsaddle of the Azores, Kathy and Ward Isaacson of Brooklyn Park, Minn., Jeanne Clapsaddle of Alden, Joseph and Karen Lapointe of Mason City, Mary Jane Lapointe and Dr. Terry Kent of Indianapolis, Ind., Dr. Nancy Lapointe of Corpus Christi, Texas, John and Julie Lapointe of Robbinsdale, Minn., Judy and Steve Jennings of Mustang, Okla., Linda and Dean Asche of St. Louis Park, Minn., Amy Lapointe of Yukon, Okla., Tim and Michelle Lapointe of Mason City, and Tom and Valeria Lapointe of Mason City; and 29 great-grandchildren.

Agnes was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Maurice Dillon; and three grandchildren, David Clapsaddle, Steven Clapsaddle and Robert Lapointe.

MASON CITY - Agnes M. Clapsaddle, 97, of Mason City, died Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

LAKE MILLS - The funeral service for Florence Heller, 69, of Lake Mills will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating. Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation was held on Friday at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills and there will be additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

Florence Heller passed away Wednesday (June 20, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City from a lengthy illness with cancer.

Florence Marvel (Moe) Heller was born on Oct. 31, 1931 in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Alfred and Gilma (Martinson) Moe. After graduating from Lake Mills High School in 1950, she worked as a secretary for a law firm in Albert Lea, Minn.

She married Kenneth Heller and moved to Garner, Iowa where they farmed and raised cattle. She taught Sunday School at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, Iowa when her children were young. Most recently, Florence dedicated her time to producing poetry and artwork at her home in Lake Mills and was active in many community events.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Harlan Moe; and one grandson, Eric Heller.

Florence is survived by her husband; and four children, Paul Heller, of Mankato, Minn., Steven Heller and his wife, Vivian, and granddaughter, Stephanie, of Forest City, Jon Heller, of Tulsa, Okla., and Karin Heller of Lake Mills; one brother, Arnold Moe and his wife, Ramona, of Lake Mills; and sister-in-law, Clarine (Hovland) Moe of Lake Mills; and one grandson, Michael Vollbrecht of Renton, Wash.; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and other relatives.

ALICE T. INTORF

OSAGE - Alice T. Intorf, 71, of Osage, died Thursday (June 21, 2001) at her home. Alice was born in Stacyville, the daughter of Valentine and Mary (Schneider) Wagner. She attended schools in Stacyville and Meyer.

On Oct. 4, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to Walter H. Intorf at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage. They lived all their married life in Osage.

She worked at the Fashion Corner and Fox River Mills. Alice was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild and also a member of the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries.

She enjoyed gardening, playing golf, and antique collecting.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Father Philip Recker officiating. Private family inurnment services will follow at the Osage Cemetery. It was Alice's wishes to be cremated.

There will be a gathering of friends and relatives from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m.

She is survived by her husband, Walter H. Intorf, of Osage; one daughter, Jane Niess and her husband, Tim, of Maquoketa; one son, W. Steven Intorf and his wife, Marcia, of Delhi; one sister, Rose Rawson, of Backus, Minn.; one brother, Joe Wagner and his wife, Ethel, of Elma; five grandchildren; two great-grandsons.

KLEMME - Funeral services for Donald G. Christiance, 94, of Klemme, will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Donna Buckman officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Klemme and one hour prior to services on Sunday at the church.

Donald George Christiance, the son of Burton and Jessie (Blee) Christiance was born Jan. 30, 1907 in West Brooklyn, Ill., where his father operated a livery stable.

While Don was quite young, the family moved all their belongings on a train to a farm near Howard, S.D. Because of the severe drought conditions in South Dakota, they moved to the Schumacher farm north of Thornton in the early 1900's. They farmed there for five years during which time they cleared the land and built farm buildings on a farm a mile away. This became their home for many years.

Don was united in marriage to Ione Schwab on Feb. 26, 1928. He attended Des Moines Barber College and operated a shop in Woolstock and later Kanawha.

In 1934 he purchased a shop in Klemme where he barbered for 51 years. He also operated a shop in Meservey for 17 years on Thursday and Thursday evenings. In 1943 and 1944 the family moved to a farm north of Clear Lake, returning to Klemme in 1945.

Don enjoyed all of his customers over the years, and most of all, his family.

He was a member of the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, the Klemme Business Club, enjoyed traveling, his home and his cars. He was deeply saddened by the loss of his son-in-law on May 7, 2000.

Don had been a resident of the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake and died on Thursday (June 21, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Those thankful for sharing in his life are his wife, Ione, of Klemme; daughters, Phyllis Echelberger, of Thornton, and Betty Hummel and her husband, Ronald, of Ankeny; grandchildren, Mike Echelberger and his wife, Donna, of Rockwell, LuAnn Scott, of Mason City, and Renae VerDuyn and her husband, Brian, of Clive; great-grandchildren, Todd Echelberger and special friend, Faye Heginger, of Mason City, Michelle Echelberger, of Rockwell, and Alayna VerDuyn, of Clive.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Glen W. Echelberger; sister, Veryl Subbert; and an infant brother.

Leona Edna Lydia Comstock was born on September 21, 1915, in Williams, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Lena (Jagau) Eggers. Leona loved to crochet and enjoyed sewing towels for the Commission of the Blind. She also enjoyed riding the Easter Seal Bus to Wal-Mart, Long John Silvers and Fareway.

Her greatest love and enjoyment was to be with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was a member of the Mason City Baptist Church.

Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Mary Lou Wood and her husband, Frank, of Mason City; three grandchildren, Gary Slocum and his wife, Mary, of Mason City, Misti Thoe and her husband, Lance, of Clear Lake, and Jason Joyner and his wife, Tami, of Veblen, S. D.; six great-grandchildren, Dustin Colby, Lance and Toni Slocum, Seth Carolus, Nichole Thoe, and Dakota Ray Joyner; a sister, Marie Michelson and her husband, Harold, of Kanawha; two brothers, Rollie Eggers of Mason City and Walter Eggers of Charles City; a sister-in-law, Dorothy Eggers of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

KENSETT - Adrian E. Foss, 75, died Friday (June 22, 2001) at his home in rural Kensett.

Adrian E. Foss was born Aug. 30, 1925, to Andrew and Emma (Dahl) Foss in rural Worth County. He was baptized and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. Thor Segmond. He attended school in Brookfield No. 8 and Kensett High School.

He served his country in the Army in Korea with the 378th Combat Engineers. He was a life member of the VFW Post No. 6779 in Northwood.

Adrian married Doris Jenkins of Lyle, Minn. Three daughters were born to the couple.

Adrian enjoyed farming with livestock and also going to consignment auctions. He was a trucker of livestock for many years. In his younger years he was a hunter and trapper.

Survivors include his wife, Doris, of rural Kensett; three daughters, Ada Asplund of Marshalltown, Eva Stratton and her husband, Wayne, of Davenport, and Gloria Cooper of Hanlontown; a granddaughter, Bobbi Cooper who was raised and lived with them since she was seven years old; grandchildren, Matt and Joshua Asplund of Marshalltown and Ronnie and Kristen Cooper of Hanlontown; and step-granddaughter, Alex
Stratton of Davenport.

Adrian was preceded in death by his parents and a son-in-law, Ronnie Cooper.

JAMES W. 'JIM' LARSON

BELMOND - James W. "Jim" Larson, 86, passed away Friday (June 22, 2001) from complications of open-heart surgery at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond with Pastor Mike Druhl officiating. Burial will take place in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5- 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

James, the son of John and Marne (Mary) Kolling Larson, was born on August 27, 1914, at Woden. He was the last survivor of a family of nine children. At an early age, Jim moved with his family to Klemme. He attended country schools and Klemme schools, graduating from Klemme High School in 1930. After high school Jim worked with his father on the farm.

Jim was united in marriage to Clara Belle Prouty on February 27, 1938, in Garner. The couple made their home in Klemme and Belmond. Jim was a farmer at heart, but also worked as a tractor mechanic. He ran the Larson's DX in Belmond during the 1950s. Jim retired in the mid-60s.

Jim led a wonderful life. He was always there for his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and mowing the yard. Jim enjoyed making things and many friends and relatives will remember him for the beautiful lamps he made. He was a caregiver for his wife for years, before declining health required that she go to the Belmond Health Care Center. They celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage. Clara preceded him in death four years ago.

Jim was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond and the IOOF Lodge of Belmond.

Jim leaves to mourn his passing three children, Mary Ausborn and her husband, Bob, of Ames, Ruth Larson and her friend Ray Cyfert of Belmond, and Arthur and his wife, Penny, of Sacramento, Calif.; nine grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Maureen Gow of Wilton, Calif.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara, in 1997; five sisters, Sylvia, Clara, Lenora, Esther and Bess; and three brothers, Harry, Ralph and Elmer.
