MARBLE ROCK - Evelyn Louise Leckbee, 81, of Marble Rock, died Thursday (Jan. 8, 2001) at her daughter's home in Marble Rock.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home, 1825 West 12th St., Cedar Falls. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Falls.

CLARENCE MELLON SWEENEY

NEW HAVEN - Clarence Mellon Sweeney, 92, of rural New Haven, passed away Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) at Colonial Manor Nursing Home, Elma.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Peter's Catholic Church, New Haven, with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Interment will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery, New Haven.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8:30 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 7092 State St., Osage, with the family present from 3 to 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., with a Scripture service at 3:30 p.m. and Catholic Order of Forester Rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Clarence was born Aug. 17, 1908, in Black Hawk County, the son of Edward and Winifred (Mellon) Sweeney. The family later moved to Mitchell County and farmed in the St. Ansgar area. Clarence attended rural Wardell School in St. Ansgar Township.

On Aug. 12, 1931, he was united in marriage to Alma Brandt. They lived and farmed in the New Haven area many years. Clarence was a long-time member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the Catholic Order of Foresters.

Survivors include his wife, Alma, of New Haven; a daughter, LaVonne Regan and her husband, James, of Avon, Ind., and her three sons, Douglas Johnson, David Johnson and Thomas Johnson; a son, Gene Sweeney and his wife, Dorothy, of New Haven and their children, Coreen, Brett, Michele, Sean, Gale and Ivy; a son, Don Sweeney and his wife, Sue, of New Haven and their children, Angie, Melissa and Chris; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Preceding Clarence in death were his parents and three brothers, Glenn, Bert and Laurence.

MYRTLE BRUNSVOLD

NORTHWOOD - Myrtle Brunsvold, 98, of Northwood, died Friday, Jan. 19, 2001, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, 2001, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 North 9th Street in Northwood, with Rev. Paul Holmer and Intern Lynn Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

The family of Myrtle Brunsvold has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Church in Northwood in her memory.

Conner Colonial Chapel of Northwood is in charge of the arrangements.

Myrtle Brunsvold was born on May 16, 1902, in Edinburg, North Dakota, the daughter of Alof and Gunhild (Rustan) Brunsvold. She attended and received her education in the rural school district #7, in Union, North Dakota. While living in North Dakota Myrtle was a cook at a sorority house at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks.

She was united in marriage to Emil Brunsvold on March 23, 1942. He preceded her in death on July 8, 1966. During their marriage together they farmed around the Joice and Hanlontown area until retiring in 1958, when they moved into Northwood. She was a member of First Lutheran Church and was very active in her church circle and other activities at the church in Northwood. She enjoyed making quilts for the World Relief Organization. She also took great pride in her flowers and volunteering at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory is a sister, Gina Morey of Hillsboro, Ore.; 15 nieces and nephews; as well as other relatives and friends.

Her parents; husband, Emil; 3 sisters, Alice Nelson, Ella Foseide, Belida Bakken; and a brother, Norman Brunsvold; preceded her in death.

CHARLES CITY - Mrs. Geneva (Dean) Schlick, 78, a resident of 5 Glen Oak Circle, Charles City, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

JOSEPH R. ANDERSON

LAKE MILLS - Joseph R. Anderson, 84, of Lake Mills, died Friday (Jan. 19, 2001) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will take place at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Lake Mills with military rites by the Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post 235.

The family requests that memorials be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills.

Joseph R. Anderson was born Sept. 3, 1916, at St. Charles, Ill., the son of Charles and Olive (Johnson) Anderson.

On July 23, 1941, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Jean" Miller. Joe was an active community member, serving on the City Council for several years, helping later to bring affordable subsidized apartments for the elderly to Lake Mills. He was also active in the Lion's Club, Masonic Lodge and Asbury United Methodist Church. After serving his country for five years as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army during World War II, he began a 45-year career with Deluxe Products (now Fleetguard) in LaPorte, Ind., in 1946. He was transferred to the Racine, Wis., plant in 1957, and in 1959 was sent to the new Lake Mills plant in a management capacity.

Joe was also an active member of the Democratic Party. He campaigned locally over the years for Democratic candidates. Joe was a generous and compassionate man and a caring and loving father and husband. He will be deeply missed by his family and close friends.

He is survived by his daughter, Sandy Mason, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; one son, Gary Anderson and his wife, Kathryn Herr, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and three grandchildren, Maya Herr-Anderson, Shelbie Mason and Brad Mason.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean, on April 20, 1988, at the age of 69.

MASON CITY - Richard DiMarco, 59, of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) in Rochester, Minn.

ESTHER L. PUEGGEL

GARNER - Esther L. Pueggel, 89, of Garner, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Bronson officiating. Interment will be at St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, northeast of Garner.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Esther Lydia Pueggel, the daughter of Gustav and Louise (Dorow) Pueggel, was born May 4, 1911, on a farm north of Clear Lake. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church northeast of Garner.

She graduated from Ventura High School in 1929. She attended Waldorf College in Forest City and the Iowa State Teacher's College in Cedar Falls and began teaching in the rural schools of northern Iowa. Esther then moved to St. Louis, Mo., where she attended Concordia College and later taught in the parochial schools in St. Louis, Milwaukee, Wis., and Chaska, Minn.

Esther loved books and spending time in school libraries so she went to work at the Concordia College Library in St. Paul, Minn. She was also a secretary at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church in St. Paul. In 1992, she moved to Prairie View Apartments in Garner. She enjoyed traveling, sewing and remembering her nieces and nephews with cards. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her two sisters, Dorothy Hollatz and Anna Radloff, both of Garner; a brother, Arnold Pueggel and his wife, Marlys, of Clear Lake; a brother-in-law, LeRoy Hollatz of Garner; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Agnes Hollatz; and two brothers-in-law, Conrad Hollatz and Raymond Radloff.

RAY ALAN FANK

MASON CITY - Ray Alan Fank, 52, of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) at his residence.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Ray Alan Fank was born Aug. 30, 1948, in Dubuque, the son of John and Goldie (Connett) Fank. He graduated from Clear Lake High School.

On Jan. 29, 1972, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Brcka in Duncan. Since their marriage they lived in Mason City and raised two daughters. Ray was an avid Harley-Davidson enthusiast for many years and enjoyed classic cars. He was a member of the River City Street Rods, and enjoyed going to car shows with "Kermit."

He is survived by his wife, Kathryn; two daughters, Sarah Fank of Huron, S.D., and Leah Fank, of the family home. Also surviving is his mother, Goldie Fank of Clear Lake; mother-in-law, Rita Kern of Garner; several nieces, nephews, cousins; and one uncle and two aunts.

SAMUEL C. HAMILTON

AUSTIN, TEXAS - Samuel C. Hamilton, born in Trenton, Missouri, on Aug. 23, 1906, the son of Ross and Rachel Dixon Hamilton, died in Austin, Texas, on Jan. 20, 2001.

He graduated from Trenton High School and received his Bachelor's Degree in engineering from Iowa State University at Ames. He was employed by Chicago Bridge & Iron Co. for 43 years, where he became a director and senior vice president of the company.

In 1930, Mr. Hamilton married Louise Moen of Mason City, the daughter of Marcus and Rosene Preus Moen. The couple have three sons, Sam Jr., Paul and David.

Mr. Hamilton received the 1978 Marsden Medal from Iowa State University for outstanding achievement in engineering. He was president of the Iowa State Foundation where he was substantially responsible for the construction of the Center For the Performing Arts, the modern football stadium and the basketball arena.

He was honored by Iowa State University in 1998 with its highest accolade for an alumni. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity and remained active in alumni matters throughout his life. He received the honorary distinction of "Significant Sig" from the national chapter. He was a member of Rotary International for many years and was active in church matters in the several locations in which his business career led him.

Mr. Hamilton's recreational interests were in golf, in which he became a fine player, and in hunting and fly fishing. He traveled throughout the world in pursuit of these interests.

Mr. Hamilton is survived by his widow, three sons and three grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at the Lakeway Ecumenical Church in the Village of Lakeway, Texas, with Dr. James L. Stoner and the Rev. Tom A. Carroll officiating.

MASON CITY - Claire W. Wilson, 80, of 1452 Second St. S.E., died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at the Veterans Administration Hospital, Des Moines.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. with the Rev. Joe Jones, pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Hampton, officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

OLAF TRUMAN BRENNO

KENSETT - Olaf Truman Brenno, 81, died Monday (Jan. 15, 2001) at the Desert Samaritan Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. (Sam) Hernes and Rev. Tim Nappe officiating. Burial will be in Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Kensett.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service time at the church Wednesday. Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Olaf Truman Brenno was born on May 18, 1919, in Worth County, rural Kensett, the son of Andrew and Hanna (Flaaten) Brenno. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at Elk Creek Lutheran Church. He received his education in the rural Danville Township schools.

After completing his schooling, he farmed in the Kensett area until his retirement in 1973. He also worked for Armour Meat Packing Company in Mason City for 15 years and worked as a contractor for Bill Robbie in Northwood building garages and sheds in Worth County.

He was united in marriage to Ruth Nappe on Jan. 28, 1940, at the Lutheran parsonage in Mason City and celebrated 60 years of marriage.

He enjoyed wintering with his wife, Ruth, in Mesa and Apache Junction, Ariz., for 14 years. He also enjoyed working, traveling wood working, growing flowers, taking care of his lawn, dancing and playing cards. His greatest love and enjoyment was taking care of his wife, Ruth.

He was a member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church and was a former trustee and usher at the church.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth Brenno, Kensett; a cousin, Garda Ones, Mason City; other cousins living in Norway; and several nieces and nephews as well as many friends.

Olaf was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Alma Brenno.

RICHARD DIMARCO

MASON CITY - Richard DiMarco, 59, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) in Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. An inurnment service will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A scriptural wake service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Richard DiMarco Memorial Fund.

Richard was born on Oct. 12, 1941, in Mason City, the son of Vincent James and Kay (Abbate) DiMarco. Richard attended Mason City schools and then served in the United States Army.

He worked at Weaver's Construction in Mason City for over six years and was also responsible for opening and operating several businesses in Mason City including the North Star Lounge, Riverside Speed Equipment and The Shop Ltd.

Richard was an avid fan and collector of Dallas Cowboys merchandise. He also collected baseball cards and coins. He enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons. Richard loved to tell of how he was an extra in the movie, "The Alamo." He will be remembered for his enormous generosity, especially with his time and money.

Richard is survived by his companion of 26 years, Barbara Jean Smith, of Mason City; his mother, Kay, of Mason City; two daughters, Tracy DiMarco White and her husband, Jason, of Ames, and Cristina (DiMarco) Monen and her husband, Bill, of Boone; his three stepchildren, Kym Fisher of Mason City, Randy Smith of Mason City and Michael DiMarco of Ames; six grandchildren, Jana Mae Liddle, Schuyler Lee Smith, Sydney Leigh DiMarco, Kennedy Lee Monen, Alex Richard Monen and Beth Anne Smith; two brothers, Jim DiMarco and Allan DiMarco, both of Mason City; two sisters, Tina Warr of Wheeling, Ill., and Phyllis Offret and her husband, Farrel, of Nevada, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1976 and a daughter, Lisa Lorene in 1965.

HAROLD (JIMMY) NELSON

ROCKWELL - Harold (Jimmy) Nelson, 81, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at his home in Rockwell.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell with the Rev. Leo Riley as celebrant. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Military graveside services will be conducted by Gallagher Post No. 208, American Legion, Rockwell.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the parish center of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with a scripture service beginning at 5 p.m. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home of Sheffield is in charge of arrangements.

Harold Melbry (Jimmy) Nelson was born on March 23, 1919, in Mason City, to Nels and Anita (Bruce) Nelson.

He married Leona Madge Bartholomew on June 7, 1939, in Mason City. They had been married 25 years when she died. He later married Lucille (Betty) Brass in Rockwell on April 25, 1970.

Harold attended school in Mason City. He entered the United States Army in 1943 and did his basic training at Camp Fannin, Texas. He served in World War II and was stationed in the Philippines and Japan. He was discharged in 1946.

Harold worked at Wholesale Bread Bakery, then at Coca-Cola for 25 years and finally at Winnebago Industries until he retired.

He enjoyed working in his saw shop, fishing and spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Lucille (Betty) Nelson, of Rockwell; five sons and four daughters, Ronald Nelson and his wife, Dale, of Alabama, Jean Rood of Mason City, Anthony Brass and his wife, LaVina, of Mason City, Mike Brass and his wife, Mickey, of Rudd, Marge Steines and her husband, Frank, of Des Moines, Don Brass and his wife, Opal, of Rockwell, Richard Brass and his wife, Kim, of Thompson, Cindy Meyer and her husband, Steve, of Mason City, and Patty Brass of Rockwell; 27 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one sister, Henrietta Pedelty of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one son, Paul; two brothers, Dave and Ralph; one son-in-law, Jerrold Rood; and one grandchild, Jeffrey, Brass.

Robert was born July 14, 1926, in Eddyville, Iowa, the son of Chester and Harmina (Lamis) Paul. The family remained in Eddyville where Robert graduated from high school.

After graduation he enlisted in the U. S. Air Force serving in the United States and Germany. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Iowa to attend the University of Northern Iowa. Following graduation he was employed as a teacher and coached basketball and baseball.

After coaching a few years, he left the teaching profession and moved to Illinois as an insurance agent for Life Investors Insurance. He was transferred to Indianola, Iowa, in 1956 and in 1966 was transferred to Mason City and made general manager for Life Investors Co. He held that position until 1978 when he purchased Mason City Glass.

Robert was a member of First United Methodist Church, enjoyed all the outdoor sports, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling and motorcycle trips with his wife across the country. Another of his great joys was being able to spend time with his children and grandchildren. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hoffman of Renwick.

Robert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of Mason City; two sons, Gary Paul and his wife, Sharon, of Stanley, Kan., and Gregory Paul and his wife, Patty, of Mason City; a daughter, Mindy Paul, of Sante Fe, N. M.; and four grandchildren, Kristin Smith and her husband, Art, of Liberty, Mo, Courtney Paul of Stanley, Kan., Jason Paul of San Antonio, Texas, and Joshua Paul of Cedar Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, and one brother.

MASON CITY - Claire W. Wilson, 80, of 1452 Second St. S.E., died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at Veteran's Administration Hospital in Des Moines.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Joe Jones, pastor of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of Hampton officiating.

The Mason City Memorial Association will conduct flag presentation honors at the service.

Following cremation at Cremation Services of North Iowa, an inurnment service for the family will be held at a later date at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Claire Wagner Wilson was born Sept. 23, 1920, in Charles City, the son of Floyd and Silvia (Wagner) Wilson. He moved with his family as a young boy to a farm just south of Mason City.

Claire was called to serve his country during World War II. He enlisted in the United States Army on Feb. 10, 1941. Claire was stationed in many places including Greenland, North Africa and Italy. He was honorably discharged on Aug. 14, 1945.

Upon returning, Claire was united in marriage to Girlene G. Awe on May 25, 1946, in Albert Lea, Minn. Girlene passed away on Jan. 10, 1974. On June 8, 1974, Claire married Carol Lorraine Miller in Mason City.

Mr. Wilson was a long-time truck driver. He worked for Stockberger Transportation Company and the Michaelsen Trucking Company. He retired in 1983 after many years of service as a truck driver for the Mitchell Transportation Company.

Claire was a Teamster retiree, after having belonged to the Teamsters Union Local 828 of Mason City.

The love of farming that he nurtured as a young boy on the family farm never left Claire. He enjoyed plowing fields on the farms of Scott Huff and Gary Jansen following his retirement from trucking.

Claire also loved to hop on his riding mower to mow lawns and do all sorts of yard work. He also enjoyed raising and harvesting produce from his garden.

Those thankful for sharing Claire's life include his wife, Carol; two daughters, Denise Wilson and her special friend, Jim Dlouhy, and Sandy Stevens; a son, Charles Wilson and special friend, Jerolyn Pirie; two stepsons, Raland Holding and Marvin Holding and his wife, Lora, all of Mason City; and six grandchildren, Chad Wilson and special friend, Wenona Anderson, Jesup and Devon Wilson, and Nicole, Natalie and Natasha Holding.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

CLEAR LAKE - Jennieve (Peg) Pearl Hunt, 95, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City.

A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Jennieve (Peg) was born Feb. 23, 1905, in rural Mt. Vernon Township, Cerro Cordo County, the daughter of Robert A. and Mabel (Cheney) Miller. She received her education in Clear Lake schools and attended business college in Mason City.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd A. Hunt, Jan. 30, 1928, at Mason City. They farmed in the Thornton-Ventura-Clear Lake and Mason City areas until her husband's death in 1973. She lived in rural Clear Lake until 1991 when she moved to the Meadows Apartments in Clear Lake. She entered Good shepherd Care Center in December 1994.

Jennieve was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake.

She was first and foremost a homemaker, making a home for her husband, and two daughters and their families. She was always there when needed. In their early married life, she and her husband made a home for her husband's two younger brothers and, for a time, her father-in-law. On many Sunday afternoons, their home was a gathering place for young people. Many nieces and nephews enjoyed weekends or a vacation with them on the farm. When the grandchildren came, they were always welcome for a stay with Grandma and Grandpa.

Jennieve enjoyed tending her many plants, crocheting, knitting, ceramics and handcrafting. She made many lovely gifts for her family and friends until failing eyesight prevented her from doing so. She looked forward to a card game with family members, especially her sister, Jean, and dear friend, Ruth Rhodes. Doing word games and cryptoquotes was her favorite pastime. She was a willing and compassionate listener for anyone who had a problem or just needed to talk.

Jennieve is survived by two daughters, Donnie Olinger and Shirley Eibey and her husband, Richard, all of Clear Lake; four grandchildren, Teresa Conrad and her husband, Doug, of Raytown, Mo., Terry Olinger of Sioux Falls, S.D., Tracy Olinger of Mililani, Hawaii, and Brenda Wichman and her husband, Tim, of Clear Lake; four great-grandchildren, Leah Conrad of Raytown, Mo., Shannon Orth of Tucson, Ariz., and Brianna and Bryce Wichman of Clear Lake; a brother-in-law, Bernard McMurray and his wife, Carol, of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Neola Ivey of Clear Lake; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and a special friend, Ruth Rhodes of Fertile.

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Jean McMurray and Evelyn Harthan; two brothers, Lester and Everett Miller; and a son-in-law, Harold Olinger.

MASON CITY - Thorstein ''Tom'' Wamstad, 93, died Sunday (Jan. 21, 2001) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson officiating. Interment will be at Osage Cemetery.

Tom was born in Totin, Norway, on March 12, 1907, the son of Thorwald and Petra Wamstad.

On May 28, 1925, he came to the United States where he first worked as a hired man in the Dakotas and then did trucking. He eventually ended up in Iowa.

On Feb. 20, 1935, he married Esther Nelson. The couple farmed near Nora Springs for 17 years then moved to a farm near Lyle, Minn. They farmed there until retiring in 1978 when they moved to Osage. He later sold his home in Osage and moved to Mason City where he lived until his death.

Thorstein is survived by two sisters-in-law, Laura Witt of Osage and Anita Nelson of Mason City; a special friend, Marian Holt of Clear Lake; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Esther, in 1985.

SEABROOK, Texas - Gordon R. Knutson, 60, Major, U.S.A.F. retired, passed away Wednesday (Jan. 17, 2001).

Gordon was born on April 18, 1940, in Elkader. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1958. He attended Grinnell College and Oklahoma State University. He received his M.B.A. from the University of Nebraska.

He was a 50-year Scouter and was active in Masonic work and his church.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Julia Knutson, Seabrook, Texas; his mother, Jean Knutson, Clear Lake; his sons, Brian Knutson and his wife, Angelique, and grandson, Nathaniel, of Weirton, W.Va., and Christopher Knutson of Seabrook, Texas; one brother, Eric Knutson, O.D., and his wife, Pat, of Corvallis, Ore.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, M. L. Knutson, O.D.

A memorial service will be held Feb. 4 in the afternoon at the United Methodist Church, Seabrook, Texas.

ROCHESTER, Minn. - John Dudley Weible, 94, formerly of Forest City, died Friday (Jan. 19, 2001) at the Charter House Health Center, Rochester.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Charter House Chapel, Rochester. Private burial will be in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa.

Dudley was born Sept. 13, 1906, in Friend, Neb. His family later moved to Des Moines.

After attending Grinnell College for two years, Dudley graduated from Drake University in 1928. He entered law school at the University of Iowa and graduated in 1931. He moved to Forest City in 1932 to practice law.

On October 14, 1939, he married Mary Jane Gjellefald in Forest City.

Dudley was an attorney in Forest City before he volunteered for service in the U. S. Navy in 1944 and served until 1946. He was stationed in Philadelphia at the Naval Aviation Supply Office. In 1950 he served as Iowa Commander of the American Legion.

He was very active in the Iowa Association for Defense Lawyers serving as president and on the Board of Directors. Dudley was legal counsel for the REA and RTA for 40 years. He also served as Winnebago County Attorney. He practiced law in Forest City until his retirement in 1975.

In 1988 he moved to the Charter House in Rochester. He was a member of Zumbro Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Mary Jane Gjellefald; three daughters, Susan Fuelling of Jackson, Miss., Deborah (Jay) Mackie of Ely, Minn., and Libby (Mark) Jensen of Prior Lake, Minn.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -Elgin G. Enabnit Jr., 75, retired editorial director-associate publisher with Transmission and Distribution World Magazine, entered into the presence of the Lord on Monday, Jan. 15, 2001, in Cambridge Manor, Fairfield, Conn.

Born in Mason City, Mr. Enabnit had been a Fairfield resident for the past 24 years. He was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 537th Engineer Battalion. He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in electrical engineering. He was a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.

MASON CITY - Dale Faulken, a long-time Mason City resident, passed away Jan. 16, 2001, while on vacation near Corpus Christie, Texas.

Dale was born June 2, 1923, in Fertile, the son of Clarence and Eva (Rye) Faulken. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1940 and the Hamilton Business College in Mason City in 1942.

He was a submariner with the Navy in World War II, serving throughout the South Pacific.

He was a business manager for Home Insulation Co., in Mason City for 41 years, retiring in 1987.

Dale was united in marriage with Catherine Weiss on Feb. 4, 1950, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Mason City. They celebrated their 50th anniversary with family members last year.

An avid golfer throughout his adult life, Dale also enjoyed many other outdoor activities, particularly camping and fishing. He was active in the Boy Scouts and for several years was the leader of Troop 10 of Holy Family. He was a member of the parish of Holy Family Catholic Church. He also was a long-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Elks.

Dale is survived by his wife, Catherine; two sons, Bruce and his wife, Marcia, Saint Paul, Minn., and Dale Jr. and his wife, Carol, of London, England; three grandsons, Matthew, Keith and Alex of Saint Paul, Minn; a sister, Evanelle Perkins, Yreka, Calif.; two brothers, Lyle of Sherman Oaks, Calif., and Russell of Eagan, Minn.; and many nieces and nephews.

CLEAR LAKE - Carmen Vawter, 92, of 15313 Dodges Point, died Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2001) after a short illness at Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa.

Carmen Dora Dieterlen was born in Underwood, Ind., on Oct. 27, 1908, the daughter of John and Lounette (Watson) Dieterlen. They lived briefly in Illinois and then settled on a farm near Manly. She attended rural school and Manly High School. She graduated from Hamilton College in 1927.

She was united in marriage to Glen Vawter in 1928. He preceded her in death in 1966.

Carmen was employed by Ralph Lloyd Jones Insurance Co., and was office manager of Culligan Soft Water for more than 50 years, retiring in January 1993 at the age of 84.

She was an efficient, well-organized, dedicated, loyal worker throughout her entire life.

Carmen is survived by a sister, Oneita Miller, Clear Lake; a niece, Jean Miller, Naples, Fla.; two great-nieces, Joy and Kim Miller; a great-nephew, Rex Miller; and special friends, Blackie and Mavis Espinosa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Russell; and a nephew, Larry Miller.

STORY CITY - Larry G. Eddy, 58, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) of a heart attack at Iowa Methodist Medical Center, Des Moines.

Larry was born Nov. 8, 1942, in Swaledale, to Elmer and Lorraine (Laidley) Eddy. He graduated from Rockwell-Swaledale in 1961 and attended Iowa State University, where he played baseball and studied animal science.

He has been a resident of Story City since 1965. He farmed west of Story City since 1968 and worked at the Jacobson Building at Iowa State University. Larry was a member of the Army Reserves for six years.

Larry married Cheryl Padalik in 1969 at St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City.

He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church. He loved his family, farming, animals and sports. He never complained about anything. He enjoyed having coffee and visiting with friends.

RICHARD DIMARCO

MASON CITY - Richard DiMarco, 59, died Saturday (Jan. 20, 2001) in Rochester, Minn.

A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Gehling officiating. An inurnment service will follow at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. A scriptural wake service will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Memorials may be directed to the Richard DiMarco Memorial Fund in care of North Iowa Community Credit Union, 640 S. Federal, Mason City.

Richard was born on Oct. 12, 1941, in Mason City, the son of Vincent James and Kay (Abbate) DiMarco. Richard attended Mason City schools and then served in the United States Army.

He worked at Weaver's Construction in Mason City for more than six years and was also responsible for opening and operating several businesses in Mason City including the North Star Lounge, Riverside Speed Equipment and The Shop Ltd.

Richard was an avid fan and collector of Dallas Cowboys merchandise. He also collected baseball cards and coins. He enjoyed classic cars and motorcycles, especially Harley-Davidsons. Richard loved to tell of how he was an extra in the movie, "The Alamo." He will be remembered for his enormous generosity, especially with his time and money.

Richard is survived by his companion of 26 years, Barbara Jean Smith, of Mason City; his mother, Kay, of Mason City; two daughters, Tracy Di Marco White and her husband, Jason, of Ames, and Christina (DiMarco) Monen and her husband, Bill, of Boone; his three stepchildren, Kym Fisher of Mason City, Randy Smith of Mason City and Michael DiMarco of Ames; six grandchildren, Jana Mae Liddle, Schuyler Lee Smith, Sydney Leigh DiMarco, Kennedy Lee Monen, Alex Richard Monen and Beth Anne Smith; two brothers, Jim DiMarco and Allan DiMarco, both of Mason City; two sisters, Tina Warr of Wheeling, Ill., and Phyllis Offret and her husband, Farrel, of Nevada, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1976 and a daughter, Lisa Lorene, in 1965.

Richard will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

CLEAR LAKE - Patricia Barr-Stevenson, 53, of 301 North Shore Drive, Clear Lake, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. John "Jack" Gannett and the Rev. Kenneth Gehling, chaplain at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Township Cemetery in Ventura.

Pat was born Dec. 24, 1947, in Hollywood, Calif., the daughter of Harold and Betty (Stevenson) Barr. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School and A.I.C. in Cedar Falls, receiving an associate of arts degree.

Pat served as the office administrator for Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City at the time of her death.

She was involved in numerous youth and children's activities and enjoyed Native American culture and history.

Pat is survived by her husband, Michael Cooper, of Clear Lake; a son, David Lahmann, of Forest City; a daughter, Wendy Snelling and her husband, Patrick, of Clear Lake; mother, Betty Barr, of Kansas City, Mo.; a brother, Stephan Barr and his wife, Mary, of Kansas City, Mo.; grandchildren, Shawn, Emily, Alex and Brandon; and a niece, Adrienne Barr.

ENA A. HART LIEUWEN

MASON CITY - Ena A. Hart Lieuwen, 94, of Mason City, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 23, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Graveside services will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Mark's Catholic Cemetery, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Jim Miller of St. Patricks Catholic Church, Hampton, officiating.

Ena A. Harden was born Aug. 4, 1906, in Richardson County, near Verdon, Neb., the daughter of Clyde and Adaline (Jenkins) Harden. She was an excellent basketball player and graduated from Verdon High School with the class of 1925.

On May 23, 1925, she was united in marriage to Lee W. Hart at Hiawatha, Kan. They lived for many years at Iowa Falls. Following the death of her first husband in 1956, she was married to Bert Lieuwen on Sept. 19, 1959, at Mason City, where they lived and, after his death in 1981, she remained for the rest of her life.

For many years she worked in ladies dress shops including Dickson's Ladies Apparel in Iowa Falls and Lundbergs and Younkers in Mason City. She was also employed by Jones Piano Company in Mason City selling pianos and organs.

Ena loved music and was an accomplished pianist and organist and had entertained many, many groups until her final days.

She is survived by her son, Lowell Lee Hart and wife, Geraldine, of Bettendorf; her grandchildren, Thomas Hart and family of Lowden, Iowa, Randy Hart and family of Calamus, Iowa, and Mary Kim Hart of Milwaukee, Wis.; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bess Griffiths, of Auburn, Neb.; and one brother, Clyde Harden, of Arlington Heights, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Clyde and Adeline Harden; her husbands, Lee Hart and Bert Lieuwen; and one brother, U.S. Navy Commander Hubert "Bert" Harden.

ALICE M. TENNIHILL

MASON CITY - Alice M. Tennihill, 87, of Mason City, died Monday (Jan. 22, 2001) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center in Mason City.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. John Stonecypher of the Worldwide Church of God officiating. According to her wishes, Mrs. Tennihill's body has been cremated.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Peniel Cemetery in Joy, Ill.

Memorials may be directed to the Alice Tennihill Memorial Fund.

Alice was born March 22, 1913, in Hitchcock, S.D., the daughter of Sheldon Leroy and Adah Belle (Kruse) Seeley. She graduated from Plymouth High School in 1930 and was united in marriage to Alvin Tennihill in South Bend, Ind., on Nov. 4, 1936.

She moved to Des Moines and then Davenport, where she worked at Mercy Hospital in central supply at a sterilizing processor. She then moved to Milan, Ill., and later to Mason City.

Alice enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, traveling, attending church activities and trivia. She was a long-time member of the Worldwide Church of God.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Marjory Danielson and her husband, Marlin, of Davenport; her sister, Nellie Lunde, of Mason City; her brother, George Seeley and his wife, Mert, of Plymouth; three grandchildren, Douglas McKinley of Bloomington, Ill., Randy McKinley and his wife, Diane, of Walcott, Iowa, and Kevin McKinley, of Bowling Brook, Ill.; and three great-grandchildren, Amber, Amy and Ryan.

Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1963 and her brother, Donald Seeley.
