BELMOND - Beverly A. Robbins, 56, of Belmond, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Belmond with Father David Beckman and Deacon Nick Schmit officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Cemetery in Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond, with a 3 p.m. parish rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture service.

WILLIAM A. BIELEFELD

LINDSTROM, Minn. - William "Red" A. Bielefeld,76, of Lindstrom, Minn., died Wednesday (Jan. 4, 2001) at Osceola, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell. Visitation will be held from 1-8 p.m. Sunday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. in Mason City, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

MARVIN J. BRANDAU

OSAGE - Marvin J. Brandau, 83, of Osage, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 8, at the Eden Presbyterian Church, 3105 Glass Ave. in rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Interment will be in Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State. St. in Osage and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Marvin was born Oct. 24, 1917, north of Rudd, the son of Gus and Molly (Wohlers) Brandau. He graduated from Rudd High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Marvin was united in marriage to Pearl Sinning on Nov. 27, 1947. They farmed north of Rudd until they retired to Osage in 1974.

He was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed playing cards, fishing and golfing and winters in Southern California.

Marvin is survived by his wife, Pearl, of Osage; one son, Richard Brandau, of Sudbury, Mass.; three sisters, Dorothy Brandau and her husband, Clinton, of Osage, Irma Glader and her husband, Gilbert, of Wildwood, Ill., and Bernadine Llewellyn and her husband, James, of Lake Forest, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Chester Brandau.

JEROME RICHARD GESINSKI

KLEMME - Jerome Richard Gesinski, 62, of Prairie City, formerly of Klemme, passed away Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) in Des Moines.

A private family service for Jerome will be held.

A public visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond. Burial will be at a later date in the Belmond Cemetery.

Jerome, the son of Edward and Esther Gutkowski Gesinski was born Sept. 29, 1938, in Milwaukee, Wis. He grew up and attended school in the Milwaukee area.

In 1979 he moved to the Klemme area where he was employed at the Klemme Co-op Elevator. He later lived in Arizona before moving back to Iowa and living in the Klemme, Aplighton and Prairie City areas. He was employed by the Prairie City Co-op and most recently was working as a carpenter.

Jerome is survived by two sons, Richard and Michael, of Thornton; two daughters, Mary and Jerri Lynn, of Milwaukee; his mother, Esther Gesinski, of Klemme; four grandchildren; two sisters, Carol Hinman and her husband, Robert, of Klemme, and Nancy Brookshire and her husband, Dwight, of Cummings, Ga.; two nieces and two nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, and grandparents.

HATTIE M. KROEZE

THOMPSON - Hattie M. Kroeze, 80, of Thompson, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center.

MAYNARD H. SWYTER

MASON CITY - Maynard H. Swyter, 77, of 502 S. Ohio Ave., died Dec. 10, 2000, at 91 N. 58th St., Mesa, Ariz.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. today at Wayside Chapel of First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery. A flag presentation ceremony and taps will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Maynard H. Swyter Memorial Fund.

Maynard was born May 2, 1923, in Britt, the son of William G. and Anna C. (Schrader) Swyter. He graduated from Britt High School.

He entered the U. S. Army in August of 1945, serving in the European Theatre, and was discharged in January 1947.

He married Naomi R. Ludeman on June 3, 1950, in Mason City. Maynard was service supervisor for International Harvester for 27 years, retiring in 1978.

Maynard was a member of First United Methodist Church, V.F.W., American Legion and a life-member of Elks Lodge B.P.O.E. No. 375.

He is survived by his wife, Naomi R. Swyter of Mason City; two sons, David M. Swyter of Reading, Mass., and James P. Swyter of Jakarta, Indonesia; a daughter, Lisa M. Wagner Carlson of Faribault, Minn.; two sisters, Alice Nelson of Mason City and Hattie Feather of Riceville; a brother, William Swyter of Humboldt; and six grandchildren, TomWagner, Hailey Wagner, Harrison Swyter, Taylor Swyter, Kelsey Swyter, and Nicholas Swyter.

Maynard was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Carl, George, Ray and Morris.

WILLIAM ADRIAN 'RED' BIELEFELD

MASON CITY - William Adrian 'Red' Bielefeld, 76, died of natural causes early Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at his home in Lindstrom, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams, Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell, with full military rites.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City. A scripture service will begin at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers those who want to express their sympathy may direct memorials to the William Bielefeld Memorial Fund.

Bill was born and lived in Klemme until age 10 when his parents, Charles A. Bielefeld and Margaret Leona Hood, moved their family to Dougherty where they farmed. 'Red' attended county school in Dougherty.

He enlisted in the United States Navy in November of 1941, one of the greatest generation. He served as a cook and a second gunners mate on the destroyer USS Cummings in the South Pacific as well as the battleship USS Iowa. On his journey across the Pacific Ocean, 'Red' was known for feeding President Roosevelt's dog, Falah, during his tour, and he received a statue of Falah in appreciation.

Bill was awarded with the following ribbons: the American Defense, American Theatre, Asiatic-Pacific 6 Stars, Philippine Liberation 1 star, and Victory. He returned home in March 1947.

Bill married Ada M. Hennigar on June 18, 1949, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rockwell. They raised six children together: Margie Hughes, Kathy McLaughlin, Teri Jeffries, Jane Bielefeld, Bill Bielefeld and Marc Bielefeld. Bill was adamant about attending Sacred Heart and Holy Family Catholic Church with his family. Bill and Ada farmed in Dougherty until 1969. He drive semi for Stockberger Transfer and Storage of Mason City until retirement in 1988.

The last ten years Bill attended his Navy reunions where he won several awards for having the most grandchildren. 'Red' found he had a talent with his hands carving beautiful lawn furniture and dressers for close friends and family. He found serenity in watching the birds. His greatest joy was the time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 'Red' will always be remembered as a humble man with a big heart and the desire to put a smile on anyone's face.

Left to cherish and honor his memory is his life-long friend, Ada M. Hennigar; four daughters, Margie and her husband, Glen Hughes, of Dixon, Ill., and their daughter, Jennifer Hansen and her children, Joey, Josh, Hana, Melissa and Scott, Kathy and her husband, John McLaughlin, of Mason City, and their children, Katie and her daughter, Josie, Jessie and his wife, Adrienne, and their children, Taylor, Melonie and Danielle McLaughlin, Teri and her husband, Oliver Jeffries, of Osage, and their children, Tina and her husband, Tracy Thompson, and their children, Jade, Jakki, Jasmine, Zoey and Destiny, Pete Pattschull and his children, Chelsea, Jasmine and Gage, Angie Pattschull and her child, Alicia, Andrew and Phillip Pattschull, Andrea, Elyse and Ethan Jeffries, and Jane Bielefeld of Osage, and her children, Ryan Speakar and Jordan Bielefeld; two sons, Bill and his wife, Mary, of Lindstrom, Minn., and their children, Abe Sweeney, Jessica and Jamie Callison, Megan and Ashly Bielefeld, and Marc Bielefeld of Lindstrom, Minn., and his child, Justin; three brothers, Charles of Brainerd, Minn., Walter of Lime Springs, Minn., and Darl of Goodell, Iowa; and one sister, Patty Smith of Mason City.

He has now joined his parents and sister, JoAnn Smith, with the Almighty Father.

BEVERLY ANN ROBBINS

BELMOND - Beverly Ann Robbins, 56, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with the Rev. David Beckman as celebrant. Interment will be in St. Francis Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, with a parish rosary beginning at 3 p.m. and a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the services at the church Monday.

Beverly Ann (Buseman) Robbins, the daughter of Lester and Ida (Steenblock) Buseman, was born Aug. 31, 1944, at Belmond. She graduated from Belmond High School in 1962. She then attended Waldorf College in Forest City for two years and Northwestern College in Orange City for two years. After graduation she taught in Paulina and Fertile, Iowa.

On Dec. 27, 1967, she was united in marriage to Merle Robbins in Forest City. They moved to Belmond in 1968 where she began teaching and substituted in the Belmond School District for over 30 years.

Beverly's main interests were her students, anyone that was in need of help and animals. She loved to write letters as her penmanship was beautiful. After her retirement she was looking forward to joining different organizations, driving the Belmond Care Car, and spending time with the residents in the Belmond Health Care Center. Her miniature dachshund, "Spinnie" was very precious to her.

Beverly died suddenly on Thursday, Jan. 4, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her husband, Merle, of Belmond; a son, Mike Robbins and his wife, Kathy, of Toledo, Iowa, and their children, Kellie and Jayme; brothers, Harold Buseman and his wife, Donna, of Belmond, Eric Buseman of Des Moines, and Robert Rodemeyer and his wife, Dorothy, of Livonia, Mich.; his mother-in-law, Aggie Robbins, of Belmond; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Ida Buseman.

HATTIE MARIE KROEZE

THOMPSON - Hattie Marie Kroeze, 79, died Thursday (Jan. 4, 2001) at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

Hattie Marie Kroeze was born Dec. 19, 1921, to Albert and Jennie (Hugo) Johnson on a farm near Buffalo Center. She made a confession of her faith on Aug. 26, 1940, at First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. She graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1940 and taught country school for three years.

She married Laurence W. Kroeze on May 23, 1943, in Wilmington, N.C. They are the parents of five children: Sandra, Sharon, Sarah, Stephen and Susan. They lived and worked in Buffalo Center until 1966 when they moved to Thompson where they owned and operated the Thompson Speed Wash.

Hattie was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, the Gideon Auxiliary and Sarah Circle. Over the years she taught Sunday school, Christian Endeavor, Girl Scouts and Brownies.

She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and enjoyed sewing, mending and making quilts. She was a faithful helpmate to her husband, Laurence, for 57 years.

Laurence and Hattie moved to the Lake Mills Care Center in February, 2000, where she lived until her death on Thursday, Jan. 4.

Hattie is survived by her husband, Laurence; her children, Sandra DeVries and her husband, David, of Lake Mills, Sharon Hippen and her husband, Lyle, of Buffalo Center, Sarah Engebretson and her husband, Robert, of Clear Lake, Stephen Kroeze and his wife, Gloria, of Norwalk, Susan Smith and her husband, Randy, of Lake Mills; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Eppie Johnson.

Hattie's gentle spirit and kindness will long be remembered by family and friends.

LIVINGSTON GEORGE STEVENS

NORTHWOOD - Livingston George Stevens, 90, passed away Friday (Jan. 5, 2001) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, of cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Northwood United Methodist Church with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 S., Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.

Livingston George Stevens was born Nov. 14, 1910, in Knox County, Neb., to George and Anna Hall Stevens. He graduated from Verdigre High School.

In 1928 he was united in marriage to Elaine Marie Svoboda in Ravina, S.D., and they began farming. Four children were born to this union, Lois, George, Alan and David.

In 1937 the family moved to Iowa following years of drought in Nebraska. They farmed near Bolan and Carpenter and then purchased the home place east of Northwood. L.G. enjoyed the good farm land and the people in Iowa.

L.G. was always interested in the improvement of agricultural practices and toured farms and trade centers in Europe with an agricultural group. He received the Iowa Master Farmer and Swine Producer awards. He was a proponent of education and served as a member and president of the North wood School Board for many years. He also was a member of the founding board at North Iowa Community College.

He was a 50-year member of the Northwood Lions Club, a long-time member of the Historical Society, The Sons of the American Revolution and a member of the Methodist Church in Northwood.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine; one sister, Ethel Jacot, of Mason City; his children, Lois and Clyde Hill of Huxley, George and Jo Ann Stevens of Longmont, Colo., Alan and Mavis Stevens of Northwood, and David and Anne Stevens of Northwood; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

L.G. was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters, and a great-granddaughter.

MASON CITY - Peter Lichman Jr., 74, died Monday (Jan. 1, 2001) at Knapp Medical Center, Weslaco, Texas.

A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Peter Lichman Jr. Memorial Fund, 621 S. Tennessee Place, Mason City.

Peter was born June 25, 1926, in Frost, Minn., the son of Peter and Lydia (Groff) Lichman. He attended Mason City public schools and later worked for many years at Decker's Meat Packing in Mason City. He also drove for Ruan Trucking in Mason City.

Peter was united in marriage to Alice Chaney on May 16, 1980, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City. They enjoyed camping and traveling together and in retirement have spent most of their winters in Texas.

Peter's hobbies included cooking, fishing, deer hunting in Michigan, and reading, especially Western novels. His great joy was helping his neighbors at the camp park in Texas where they wintered and visiting with and meeting new people.

Peter was a member of the Mason City Moose Lodge and the V.F.W. Post No. 733 of Mason City.

Peter is survived by his wife, Alice Lichman; three children, Nancy Likness and her husband, Mike, of Ventura, Calif., Tim Lichman and his wife, Laurie, of Mason City and Jon Lichman and his wife, Yolanda, of Mason City; two stepchildren, Sharon Brown and her husband, Pete, of Woodbine, Md., and Bruce Chaney of Rockford; seven grandchildren, Jake Likness of Ventura, Calif., Jared Lichman and Elena, Danielle and Alex Lichman, all of Mason City, and Matthew and Valerie Brown of Woodbine, Md.; and two brothers, Don Lichman and his wife, Betty, of Plymouth, and Jim Lichman and his wife, Lee, of Portage, Wis.

Peter was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joe; and a daughter, Sally.

DORLA D. WEILAND

WESLEY - Dorla D. Weiland, 62, of 100 Blank St., Wesley, died Sunday (Jan. 7, 2001) at the Algona Manor, Algona, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Dorla Dell (Coots) Weiland was born July 4, 1938, at Vinton, the daughter of Homer and Irene (Byous) Coots. She attended Vinton Community Schools and graduated from high school in 1956. Dorla attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and graduated in 1960 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Upper Elementary Education. She taught in the Humboldt Community Schools, Corwith-Wesley Schools and St. Joseph Catholic School in Wesley.

On June 19, 1953, Dorla accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. She joined Wesley United Methodist Church on May 23, 1999, and was active in the United Methodist Women.

On March 11, 1977, Dorla was united in marriage with Orville H. Weiland at Algona. Dorla and Orville had each been married and divorced so together they combined their families, became friends with each other's children and grandchildren and created their own blended family. Of special enjoyment for both Dorla and Orville were monthly dinner get-togethers with five friends in 12-step recovery. Dorla served and mended on a volunteer basis for Westview Care Center in Britt. Her hobbies included baking, and decorating cakes and visiting with friends.

She is survived by her husband, Orville Weiland, of Wesley; two sons, Adrian Dangelser and his wife, Lynne, of Fenton and Jeffrey Dangelser, of Fort Dodge and his special friend, Linda Freese; two grandsons, Clint Dangelser, Fenton and Alex Dangelser of Spirit Lake; five stepchildren, Patricia Frayne and her husband, Bob, Clear Lake, David Weiland and his wife, Sue, of Britt, Betty Erpelding and her husband, Craig, Algona, Judy Weber and her husband, Dave, of Corwith and Jon Weiland and his wife, Janelle, Britt; 15 step-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Long, Cedar Rapids, and Doris Ehlers, of Independence; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers, Floyd and Lloyd Coots.

Dorothy M. Shelton was born April 13, 1929, in Kanawha where she also attended school.

On Nov. 6, 1947, she married Carl Westin in Pine City, Minn. After their marriage the couple made their home in Kanawha and moved to Fort Dodge in 1965. Her husband died February 11, 2000, and after his death she continued to live in Fort Dodge. Dorothy was a homemaker and also held some jobs outside of the home.

She is survived by her five children, Jacqueline Rieder of Catoosa, Okla., Deborah Olsen of Winchester, Ky., John Westin of Broken Arrow, Okla., Mitch Westin, and Scott Westin of Tulsa, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Brunes of Goodell, Marjorie Nord, Mason City, Louise Adreon, of Britt and Carole Taylor of Mason City; and one brother, James R. Shelton, of Cedar Falls.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Carl Westin in 2000, her parents, James and Marie (Freerksen) Shelton and a great grandson.

NORTHWOOD - Reta Denise Roseland, 43, of Northwood, died Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2001) at her home.

Reta Denise Roseland was born on Sept. 27, 1957, in Faulkton, S.D., the daughter of Frederick "Dennis" and Darlene (Geist) Roseland. She attended and received her education in the elementary school in Sturgis, S.D., graduating from Faulkton High School in Faulkton, S.D. After completing her schooling, she moved to Wyoming and Virginia, traveling with her husband who was in the service. She later moved to Kenosha, Wisconsin, where she resided for eight years until moving to Northwood to be near her cousin, Kim Colleen Hendrickson and her family.

She enjoyed raising rabbits, helping with the AA classes, and battered women in Kenosha; she also enjoyed cross stitch, plastic canvas, playing the guitar, was very knowledgeable on vitamin and herb therapy, and reading the Bible. She was a member of Riverside Friends Church in Mason City.

Those left to cherish her memory are her mother, Darlene Roseland of Rapid City, S.D.; two sisters, Jeannie Roseland of Rapid City, S.D., and Debbie Maley and her husband, Mark, of Oak Creek, Wis.; a niece, Erica Maley of Oak Creek, Wis.; a half brother, Ricky Roseland of South Dakota; her first cousin, Kim Colleen Hendrickson and her husband, Dan, of Northwood; as well as other relatives and friends.

Delbert Arthur Beyer was born July 14, 1931, at Toeterville, the son of George and Alfrieda (Hackbart) Beyer. He was a Mitchell High School graduate. After graduating he went to work at the Oliver Tractor Works in Charles City. He moved to Victor, Iowa, and had a Watkins Route for two years.

On Oct. 10, 1953, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Stanton in Vinton. After their marriage, the couple resided in Osage where Delbert worked as a carpenter with his father and also had a dairy delivery route in Osage. The couple moved to Austin, Minn., where he also had a dairy delivery route. The couple moved to Charles City where Delbert went back to work with White Farm Equipment where he worked for 28 years. In 1966 the couple moved to New Hampton where Delbert worked for the City of New Hampton for 12 years.

Delbert is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of New Hampton; two sons, Randy Beyer, of Mankato, Minn., formerly of New Hampton, and David (Sharon) Beyer, of Waverly; one daughter, Rhonda (Darrin) Stewart, of Elko, Minn.; five grandchildren, Jessica, Joshua, Colton and Chase Beyer and Jacob Stewart; three sisters, Dorothy Clayton, of Mitchell, Delores Hucke, of Otter Tail, Minn., and Dallas Heinzerling, of Otter Tail, Minn.; six brothers, Donald, of Mitchell, Darrell, of Osage, Dale, of Charles City, Dennis, of Fredericksburg, Dean, of Mitchell, and George (John), of Mitchell.

Elaine M. Kruse was born Aug. 1, 1931, in Hancock County, Iowa to Vladamir L. and Josephine (Maleck) Fric. She grew up in the Hayfield area and graduated from Hayfield High School. She then graduated from Mount Mercy College and attended Iowa State Teachers College, now the University of Northern Iowa.

Elaine was united in marriage with Gilbert G. Kruse on June 1, 1955, in Parkersburg, Iowa. She taught school in Iowa Falls, Rockwell, Allison and Fertile. She devoted her life to raising her family then later worked at Sears.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed playing cards with friends and spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling with her husband on weekend get-aways.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gilbert (Gib) Kruse, of Garner; a son, Thomas Kruse and his wife, Michele, of Cedar Rapids; a daughter, Kay McAloon and her husband, Marty, of Garner; grandchildren, Tyler Kruse, Brandon Kruse, Connor Kruse, Bobbi Breitkreutz, and Danielle Breitkreutz; a sister, Marcella Rasmussen, of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

Charlotte Geneva Willsher was born on June 1, 1910, in Kalo, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Jessie (Arledge) Hutchinson. She received her education in the rural country schools in the Otho, Iowa, area.

She was united in marriage to George Willsher on Nov. 27, 1929, in Mason City. He preceded her in death in 1983.

In 1941 the family moved to Nora Springs where they spent the rest of their lives. Charlotte began selling Amyway products in the 1950s and became a direct distributor in the 1960s.

She enjoyed flowers and gardening, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren.

She was a member and very active in the Methodist Church in Nora Springs and held offices in various phases of church activities. She also was a member of the Rebekah Lodge since the late 1940s and was a Noble Grand in 1955.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Majorie Bordwell of Sun Lakes, Ariz., Ron Willsher and his wife, Gen, of Fort Meyers, Fla., Bob Willsher and his wife, Arlene, of Nora Springs, Janet Wright and her husband, Larry, of Northwood, and Marcia Rowley and her husband, Frank, of Princeton; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Wayne Hutchinson of Fort Dodge; and other relatives and friends.

VERA VALLEY BARNES

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. - Funeral services were held for Vera Valley Barnes on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2001, at the Go Ye Village Chapel in Tahlequah, Okla., with the Rev. Paul Tavener and Dr. David Blake officiating. Interment was in the Tahlequah City Cemetery.

Vera Valley Barnes was born March 1, 1912, in Carroll, Neb., the daughter of Bert E. and Anna (Weseloh) Roberts, and she passed from this life on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Go Ye Village after reaching the age of 88 years, 9 months and 30 days.

She was married to Bernard Wesley Barnes on Aug. 17, 1932, in Mt. Carroll, Ill. They moved to Mallard, Iowa, where they farmed for 20 years. They then moved to Mason City, where Vera was the chief cook at a Mason City hospital and later at the Americana Nursing Center.

After retiring, they moved to Tahlequah in 1976. They were one of the first residents at Go Ye Village and Vera served Go Ye as its chief cook for several years. She was of the Baptist faith.

Mrs. Barnes was preceded in death by two brothers, Alvan Roberts and George Roberts; one sister, Viola Lewis; two infant siblings, Dorothy and Bert Roberts; along with her husband, Bernard, who died on May 27, 1989.

Survivors include three daughters, Neva and husband, Eddie Hamilton, of East Moline, Ill., Loretta and husband, Harry Hix, of Tahlequah, Okla., and Phyllis Schneider, of McCord AFB, Washington; two sons, Richard and his wife, Rose Barnes, of Venus, Texas, and Bert and his wife, Velma Barnes, of Rockwell; four brothers, Harold Roberts, of Preston, Fount Roberts, of Lincoln, Neb., Wesley Roberts, of Lancaster, Calif., and Melvin Roberts, of Cedaredge, Colo. She also leaves behind 24 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, along with many other relatives, loved ones and friends.

VIOLA M. WESTCOTT

TOPEKA, Kan. - Viola Margaret Westcott, 94, of Topeka, Kan., died Wednesday, Dec. 20, 2000, at a Topeka hospital.

Mrs. Westcott had been a seamstress in a dry cleaning facility, and she later worked in retail clothing sales.

She was born June 11, 1906, in Mason City, the daughter of John Henry and Nellie Margaret Alger Brackenridge. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1923 and went to work for Peevely Dairy in St. Louis, where she served Tom Mix ice cream cones.

She married Loyd Ray Westcott on June 21, 1930, in St. Louis.

She is survived by her husband, Loyd Ray Westcott, of Topeka; a daughter, Joan "Jo" Rempe, of Muleshoe, Texas; a son, Don Westcott, of Topeka; eight grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was cremated. Memorial services were held at the Penwell-Gabel Mid-Town Chapel in Topeka.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in her memory.

JESSIE M. KRALL

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. - Jessie M. Krall, formerly of Clear Lake, died peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at the Mountain View Healthcare Center, where she had resided since January 1999.

She was born Oct. 7, 1903, in Lake Mills, where her parents, Margaret (O'Brien) and C. Peter Christensen, ran a restaurant.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben P. Krall, on Aug. 1, 1993, after 69 years of marriage, and by their only child, Jessie Diann Smith, on May 30, 1998.

Survivors include son-in-law, Kenneth E. Smith, of Mountain View, Calif.; granddaughter, Leslie Smith and her husband, Bob Gaynor, of Menlo Park, Calif.; grandson, Steven Smith, his wife, Barbara Simerka, and their daughter, Rachel, of San Antonio, Texas.

In 1920-21 Jessie attended Hamilton Business School and afterward was employed by the Northwestern Railroad. Two years later she went to work at the Western Electric Telephone Co. in Mason City. Then in 1941 she was hired by the Clear Lake Independent Telephone Co. and retired as office manager in November 1968.

Jessie and Ben were married on his 25th birthday on May 1, 1924, and lived in Mason City until moving to Clear Lake in August 1960. She was a life member of the Bell Telephone Pioneers and Independent Telephone Pioneers. In 1969 she helped organize the Senior Citizens in Clear Lake.

Next summer her small clan will gather at her home in Clear Lake to inter her and her husband's cremains in Columbarium No. 2 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

HAZEL L. VAN WERT

HAMPTON - Hazel L. Van Wert, 83, of Hampton, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton, with the Rev. Wilbert Trusheim officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Hazel was born in Sheffield on Sept. 22, 1917, the daughter of Fred and Minnie (Buttjer) Woodley. She attended the Geneva schools.

She was united in marriage to Charles Van Wert on May 22, 1938, in Nashua. Hazel was a homemaker. She was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three daughters, Lucy K. and her husband, Roger Minnier, of Hampton, Linda J. Pohl, of Nashua, and Lori Jo and her husband, Donavan Smith, of St. Paul, Minn.; two sons, Rex C. and his wife, Cindy Van Wert, of Grundy Center, and Gary L. and his wife, Kathy Van Wert, of Coon Rapids; one sister, Ruby Mason, of Hampton; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one brother, three sisters, one grandchild and one son-in-law.

MARGARET M. BAILEY

ROWAN - Margaret M. Bailey, 81, of Rowan, passed away Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at her home near Rowan.

The funeral for Margaret M. Bailey will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Rowan, with Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiating. Burial will take place at the Graceland Cemetery near Rowan.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home in Belmond and one hour before the service at the church.

Margaret, the daughter of Herman and Lusetta Huntington Olsen, was born Jan. 27, 1919, near Rowan. She grew up south of Rowan, where she attended country school. She then attended Rowan High School, graduating in 1936.

On Feb. 11, 1940, Margaret was united in marriage with Merle Raymond Bailey in Clarion. The couple made their home between Alexander and Rowan, where they farmed and raised their family. They were blessed with three sons, Vernon Gene Bailey, Merle Dean Bailey and Gerald Eugene Bailey.

Margaret was employed at the Dows and Belmond Care Centers as a nurse's aid, retiring in 1981.

Margaret was a member of the United Church of Rowan, United Methodist Women and Card Club. She enjoyed Aretex "textile" painting and making latch hook rugs.

Margaret is survived by three sons, Vernon and his wife, Nadara, of Swaledale, Merle Dean, of Rowan, and Gerald and his wife, Sharon, of Belmond; five grandchildren, Charlotte and Raymond Polsdofer, Rodney Bailey, Janine and Brian Strong, Michael Bailey, and Tammy and Rick Withers; five great-grandchildren, Marshal, Noah, Reese, Brandon and Zachary; one sister, Dorothy Bailey, of Hampton; three brothers-in-law, Elmer Bailey, of Leavenworth, Kan., Kenneth Bailey, of Rowan, Robert Haupt, of Belmond; and numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law.

CONRAD E. MEINTS

SHEFFIELD - The funeral for Conrad E. Meints will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Reformed Church in rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Arthur J. Zewert officiating. Interment will be in the Zion Reformed Church Cemetery in rural Sheffield.

Conrad Edward Meints was born on Feb. 3, 1919, in Richland Township, rural Sheffield, to Harm and Ella Stadtlander Meints. Con attended Richland Township School, then worked on the family farm. He later also worked at the Thornton Creamery and was a hired farm hand.

On Oct. 23, 1940, Con married Carolyn Koenigsberg at her parents' home in rural Sheffield. The couple lived on a farm near Latimer, then moved to the home farm in 1943, where they continued to live until March 1973 when they moved into Sheffield.

Conrad was a member of the Zion Reformed Church, rural Sheffield, where he served as Deacon and Elder and as a member of the Brotherhood.

He was currently serving on the Elderbridge of Aging board, the zoning board in Sheffield, and was currently chairman of the Franklin County Public Health board in Hampton. He also served on the Mental Health board in Mason City for 25 years, the Chapin Co-op board for many years, served as Mayor of Sheffield from 1986-1990 and was a former supervisor for Franklin County. While Con was supervisor and Mayor, he served on the North Iowa Area Council of Governments board.

Con enjoyed woodworking and his farming as well as growing pumpkins, potatoes and roses.

Conrad died on Sunday night (Jan. 7, 2001) at his home in Sheffield at the age of 81.

Survivors include his wife, Carolyn, of Sheffield; two sons, Ronald and his wife, Shirley, of Rockwell, and Larry and his wife, Donna, of Sheffield; and daughter, Lois Craighton and her husband, Dave, of Sheffield; 11 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and seven stepgreat-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Harold and his wife, Mary, of Sheffield, and Marvin and his wife, Darlene, of Sheffield.

Con was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, John; and one granddaughter, Amy Sue.

ROBERT K. GRAVES

OSAGE - Robert K. Graves, 67, of 2602 West Glenrosa Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., died Tuesday (Jan. 2, 2001) at his home following a lengthy illness.

A gather of family and friends will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage. A memorial service will follow at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Rick Magstadt officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Robert was born May 8, 1933, in Osage, the son of Emmit and Grace (Canny) Graves. He graduated from Osage High School and served in the United States Army.

Robert was united in marriage to Judith Williams on May 2, 1960, in Rapid City, S.D. They lived in Osage and Mitchell before moving to Phoenix in 1987. He was retired.

Survivors include his wife, Judith, of Phoenix; a daughter, Lynda Colton and her husband, Jack, and and their child, Samuel, of Batavia, Ill; son, Keith Graves and his wife Barbara, of Grand Mound, and their children Jeff Minner of Clinton, Shai Lemke and her husband, Mark and their son, Brady and daughter, Sara, all of Clinton; and son, Mark Graves, and his wife Betty and their child, Jacob, of Mason City.

KENT 'KO' OLSON

FRIDLEY, Minn. - (March 20, 1960-Jan. 5, 2001) Kenton Keith Olson, 40, was born in Santa Maria, Calif., on March 20, 1960, the first of three sons, to Ruebin and Karen (Sally) Olson. The family lived in California, where he was in Boy Scouts and Little League. When he was 11 years old his family moved to Alexandria, Minn., to be near relatives.

Kent was confirmed at First Lutheran Church when he was 15. He was a counselor at Luther Crest Bible Camp. Kent attended Concordia College and graduated in 1982.

Following college his first job was as an assistant manager at Burger King. He later took a position with Roadway Express in Eagan, Minn. He was promoted to assistant terminal manager and moved to Mason City. He later transferred to the Rock Island terminal. In 1995 he transferred back to Eagan, Minn. He worked for Roadway Express for 14 years. In 1996 he became an independent courier.

While in Mason City he met Becky Olinger. They were united in marriage on June 4, 1988, at St. James Lutheran Church. To set the occasion in stone, Kent painted their names on the big rock on I-35.

They lived in Davenport for eight years and were active in St. Paul Lutheran Church. They lived in Lakeville, Minn., for three years, later moving to Fridley, where they joined Redeemer Lutheran Church.

After being diagnosed with lymphocytic leukemia last year, he showed us all how to maintain a positive attitude in the face of adversity. He never complained and always looked on the bright side of life.

Kent's life was filled with the things he loved: golf, fishing, trivia, bowling and traveling. Kent loved interacting with others and touched the lives of everyone he met.

He made the world a brighter place and will be greatly missed, especially by his family and they include his wife, Becky, of Fridley, Minn.; parents, Ruebin and Sally Olson, of Cedar Rapids; brothers, Kevin Olson, and Rob Olson and his wife, Laura.

The funeral was held Monday, Jan. 8, 2001, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Fridley, Minn.

MYRTLE M. THOMPSON

GARNER - Myrtle M. Thompson, 89, of Garner, died Monday (Jan. 8, 2001) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

The funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, with Pastor Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Interment will be at Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner and will continue one hour before services at the church.

Myrtle M. Thompson, the daughter of Lewis and Lena (Evenson) Halverson, was born Jan. 22, 1911, on a farm near Miller. She attended school at Miller until the eighth grade.

In 1951 she moved to Garner and worked at the Hancock County assessor and auditor offices for eight years.

On Aug. 12, 1958, she was married to Robert Clark Thompson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They farmed northwest of Garner until 1968, when they retired and moved into Garner.

Myrtle moved to Prairie View Apartments in January 1992 and Concord Care Center in April 1997. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and quilting.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, LWML and had served on the Altar Guild.

Myrtle is survived by a nephew, Wayne Taylor and his wife, Ruby, of Garner; four nieces, Marjorie Hopper and her husband, Richard, of Ventura, Arlis Bertelsen and her husband, Gene, of Thornton, Darlene Campbell and her husband, Bill, of Springfield, Mo., and Shirley Stopak and her husband, Don, of Council Bluffs; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on Nov. 20, 1995; her parents; four sisters, Stella McCormick, Hazel Taylor, Gladys Thompson and Alice Bamman; and an infant brother, Ernie Halverson.
