RICHARD 'DICK' T. O'CONNOR

ROCKFORD - Richard "Dick" T. O'Connor, 86, of 301 Seventh St. N.E. in Rockford, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford, with the Rev. Leo Riley officiating. Interment will follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Rockwell.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today at Holy Name Catholic Church with a scripture service at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Richard O'Connor Memorial Fund.

Dick was born Aug. 20, 1915, the son of Thomas and Myrtle (Frint) O'Connor, in Cartersville. He attended and graduated from Rockwell High School.

On Feb. 3, 1937, he was united in marriage to Mary "Myrtle" Paulus at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford. Dick started farming but soon realized that trucking was what he enjoyed. He enjoyed doing his own maintenance and repairs on the trucks.

Dick could often be found outside puttering on his lawn mower. He spent many hours socializing with the people at the Cartersville Co-op. Dick was always up for a good practical joke if he thought he could get away with it.

If cards were to be played, Dick would suggest playing 500. He enjoyed watching TV, especially game shows and sporting events.

Richard was a member of Holy Name Catholic Church.

Those thankful for having shared in Dick's life include his wife, Myrtle; two daughters, Mary Ann Martzahn and her husband, Roger, of Greene, and Karen Dow and her husband, Bob, of Rudd; two sons, Gerald "Jerry" O'Connor and his wife, Maxine, of Mason City, and John "Jack" O'Connor and his wife, Cleo, of Rudd; one sister, Lenore Alger, of Spencer; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Mr. O'Connor was preceded in death by his parents and two granddaughters.

MARGARET E. DREYER

ALGONA - Margaret E. "Marge" Dreyer, 79, of Algona, died Wednesday (Dec. 19, 2001) at Cedar Falls Lutheran Nursing Home in Cedar Falls.

Her funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Algona, with Pastor Steven Turner officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Lotts Creek.

TRISHA LEE DAVIS

MASON CITY - Trisha Lee Davis, 13, of 2323 23rd St. S.W., died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Chris Podhajsky of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City and the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St.Joseph Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 until 7 p.m. today at the funeral chapel, with a public scripture wake service at 6 p.m.

Trisha Lee Davis was born on March 19, 1988, at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., the daughter of Carroll and Sherry (Colby) Davis. She was baptized at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, and was in the eighth grade at the Roosevelt Middle School in Mason City.

Trisha loved and enjoyed being with her family, and her classmates at school.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are her parents, Carroll and Sherry Davis, of Mason City; a brother, Cody Davis, of Mason City; two stepbrothers, Jed Davis, of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jeremy Davis, of Portland, Ore.; maternal grandparents, Pat Staub, of Mason City, and Ed Colby, of Mason City; paternal grandparents, Dean and Marlys Davis, of Phoenix, Ariz.; maternal great-grandmother, Clara Fransen, of Mason City; four uncles, Clifford Davis and his wife, Peggy, of Cartersville, Tim King and his wife, Terri, of Dougherty, Ed Colby and his fiancé, Gezelle Urbanski, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Chris Colby and his wife, Tracy, of Mason City; numerous cousins as well as other relatives and friends.

Trisha was preceded in death by her paternal great-grandparents; and maternal great-grandfather, Howard Fransen.

JERENE F. BARLOW

IOWA FALLS - Jerene F. Barlow, 87, of Iowa Falls, died Wednesday morning (Dec. 19, 2001) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mark's Catholic Church in Iowa Falls, with the Rev. James Dubert officiating. Interment will be in St. Mark's Cemetery in Iowa Falls. Pallbearers will be her eight grandchildren, and songs will be led by her niece, Donna Grandfield, and her nephew, Russell Howe.

Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m., with a scripture service held at 7 p.m. led by her niece, Sr. Connie Howe, of Anaconda, Mont.

Jerene was born Nov. 6, 1914, in Marshall County, the daughter of Arthur and Nellie (Lawler) Dunn. She graduated from State Teachers College in Cedar Falls and taught school in St. Anthony and Dumont, where she met Robert William Barlow. They were married May 23, 1942.

She moved around with her husband as he was stationed on several bases during World War II, Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., Camp Crowder, Mo., Camp Lee, Va., and Fort Warren, Wyo.

They moved to Iowa Falls in 1950 when Bob started working at the Iowa Falls State Bank. They later purchased the bank where Jerene became actively involved in many different aspects.

She was also a strong supporter of Edgewood Place, Iowa Falls, the Robert W. Barlow Memorial Library, St. Mark's Catholic Church and Ellsworth Hospital in Iowa Falls.

Jerene is survived by three children and their spouses, Pam and Joe Angstman, of Buffalo Center, Cinda and Craig Classon, of Dows, and John and Kathy Barlow, of Mound, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Molly Angstman and Joey Angstman, Chip Classon and his wife, Janet, Candi Naumann and her husband, Jacob, Alesa Hinz, Chris Hinz and his wife, Gidget, Amy Barlow and Zach Barlow; and four great-granddaughters, Callie, Jordan, Faith and Emma.

She is also survived by two sisters, Opal Grandfield, of Des Moines, and Rita Howe and her husband, Ralph, of Clemons; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Dunn, of Estherville; and a brother-in-law, Clyde Allen, of San Jose, Calif. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, on March 5, 1995; and her daughter, Linda, Mar. 2, 1999; a brother, Leo Dunn, a brother-in-law, Ronald Grandfield; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Allen.

JOHNSTON - Alice Marie Weiser, 68, of Johnston, died Friday (Dec. 21, 2001) at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Ankeny. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Dumont Cemetery in Dumont.

CLARION - Florence Bernice Anderson, 84, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at the USA Healthcare Center in Clarion.

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at the First Lutheran Church in Clarion with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in the Holmes Lutheran Cemetery in rural Holmes.

RUDOLPH MEYER

SHEFFIELD - Rudolph Meyer, 96, of Sheffield, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at Sheffield Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton, with the Rev. Kenneth Krueger officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in rural Hampton.

Visitation will be from 1 to 5 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, 306 Central Ave E. in Hampton.

Rudolph H. Meyer was born June 1, 1905 in Hampton, the son of August and Dorathea Meyer. He was reared in Franklin County and educated at Trinity Lutheran School Beeds Lake. He married Florence Meyer on Feb. 4, 1932.

Rudolph was a farmer and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hampton.

He is survived by two daughters, Donna Mae Willis of Dows and Leona Taylor of Clear lake; two sons, Donald Meyer of Rockwell and Wayne Meyer of Lake Mills; 11 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence; two brothers; two sisters; and one granddaughter.

HELEN E. MASON

MASON CITY - Helen E. Mason, 94, of 715 S. Pennsylvania Ave. , died Saturday (Dec.22, 2001) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home in Rockwell.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 5th St. SE, Mason City, with the Rev. Chris Podhajsky, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd St. NE, Mason City.

Memorials may be given in memory of Helen to the Salvation Army or to Catholic Charities.

Helen was born Aug. 8, 1907, in Kewanee, Ill., a daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Baker) Brown. She married Richard E. Mason on June 1, 1928, in Swaledale.

Survivors include three sons, Richard Mason, Ronald Mason, and Ross Mason, all Mason City; four grandchildren, Janet Mason of Grand Rapids, Mich., Sandra Northrup of Mason City, Mark Mason of Albert Lea, Minn., and Terese Wood of Shawnee, Kan.; five great-grandchildren, Cassie, Brian and Timmy Wood, all of Shawanee, Kan., Tara and Shanna Northrup of Mason City; and one great-great-grandson, Alek Torres of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Richard, in 1960, and one brother, Harold Brown who lived in Galesburg, Ill.

GARNER - Lorraine Swalve, 78, of Fremont, Calif., formerly of Garner, died Thursday (Dec. 20, 2001) at Hayward, Calif.

Lorraine Swalve, the daughter of Bernard and Cecil (Bryant) Knoll, was born Dec. 6, 1923, at Belmond. At an early age, she moved with her family to a farm northeast of Garner and later into Garner. She graduated from Garner High School in 1941 as valedictorian of her class. After graduation, she was employed at the Northwestern Bell Company in Garner and then Maben Insurance for several years. On May 14, 1947, she was united in marriage to Raymond B. Swalve. They lived in Garner until the summer of 1970 when they moved to Fremont, Calif. Lorraine was a devoted homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Raymond of Fremont, Calif.; two sisters, Irma Haaf and LaVon Lemke, both of Garner; and several nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Elmer Knoll; and three sisters, Elsie Dorenkamp, Isabelle Dankbar and Reta Juhl.

BETTY ANN MARSON

MASON CITY - Betty Ann Marson, 68, of 1008 Twelfth St. N.E., died Sunday (Dec. 23, 2001) at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third Street N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Jeffrey Dahlin of the First United Methodist Church in Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Mason City.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday and one hour before the service on Thursday at the funeral home.

Betty Ann Marson, was born on March 18, 1933, in Mason City, the daughter of LaBETTY A. MARSON
wrence "Duke" and Gladys (Ebbers) Duckert. She attended and received her education in the Mason City School system, graduating from Mason City High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Donald Marson on Nov. 3, 1951, in Mason City. After their marriage she worked for Armour's Meat Company (Decker's) in Mason City for a few years until they started to raise a family, staying at home where she loved and cared for them. After her family had grown, she kept busy by working for various companies in Mason City.

She enjoyed trout fishing, playing cards at the Moose Lodge with her friends, gardening, going to horse shows, working in her yard, and wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., but her great love and enjoyment was her family and grandchildren and going to all their activities.

She was a member of the Moose Lodge and VFW ladies auxiliary, both in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Donald Marson, of Mason City; two daughters, Ann Brown and her husband Mike, of Mason City, and Becky Bornholdt and her husband Bruce, of Mason City; two sons, David Marson and his wife Debra, of Mason City, and Danny Marson and his wife Karen, of Mason City; eight grandchildren, Jessica, Amanda, and Olivia Marson, Abby, Lucy, and Maggie Brown, Bobby, and Tommy Bornholdt; two brothers, Merle "Ike" Duckert and his wife Dorothy, of Mason City, and Joe Duckert and his special friend Barb, of Mason City; three sisters, Delores Crawford and her husband Oscar, of Mason City, Patty Walley, of Minneapolis, Minn., and Linda Jilek and her husband Terry, of Waukee; as well as other relatives and friends.

Her parents, two brothers, Bob and Don Duckert and a sister, Beverly Farrington preceded her in death.

MARION D. MCENELLY

FOREST CITY - Marion (Mary) D. McEnelly, 79, of Forest City, died Saturday (Dec. 22, 2001) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Michelle Simonson officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the church.

Marion D. McEnelly was born in Kensett on Jan. 30, 1922, the daughter of Carl L. and Helen A. (Tollefson) Lewis. She received her education there, graduating from Kensett High School. She also attended Waldorf College in Forest City.

She married Norman D. McEnelly on April 11, 1941, in Mason City. She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and the Kum Along Senior Citizens Club. Mary loved to go fishing and camping. She liked to travel, enjoyed quilting and had an extensive cardinal collection. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who treasured time spent with her family.

She entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City in June 2001. She died there on Dec. 22, 2001, at the age of 79 years.

She is survived by her children: daughter Saundra R. Meade and husband Don of Forest City; son Gary C. McEnelly and wife Dona of Baxter, Minn.; daughter Kathleen A. Olson and husband Robert of Forest City; six grandchildren:Terry Skjeie of Omaha, Neb, Mari Jo (Skjeie) Mitchell of Middletown, R.I., Kari Sue (Skjeie) Johnson of Wanamingo, Minn., Bret McEnelly of Waconia, Minn., Brenda (McEnelly) Hanson of Duluth, Minn. and Sara Olson of Forest City; seven great-grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and a special friend, Patricia McEnelly of Chaska, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Norman, who died in 1989.

FLORENCE, Ky. - Velma Marie DeBolt, 73, of Florence, Ky., formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Dec. 21, 2001) at St. Luke Hospital West in Florence, Ky.

Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home.
