GLEN WARD JONES

OKOBOJI - Glen Ward Jones, 96, of 1306 Lakeshore Drive, passed away at his home Wednesday (May 24, 2000).
Glen was a life-long resident of Dickinson County, having been born there Sept. 11, 1903, to Marvin Minor Jones and Emma Elizabeth (Traver) Jones. He attended rural schools and Spencer High School. He came from a large family of 10 children - five brothers and four sisters.
In high school he excelled in track and received many trophies and medals for this activity. Perhaps his speed on the track enabled him to be so fast that he was able to catch his spouse of 72 years, Flora Jane Kindlespire.
They made their homes in Dickinson County. Glenn farmed all his life, teaching and instilling in his children a very desirable work ethic.
His greatest love was his family, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He seemed happy and content as these children gathered around him as he talked of his days as a youth. Many of the stories were told over and over, and the children remember them as part of their family history.
Glen also took prided that he had attended every Clay County Fair since it started except one, and was subject to an interview on this just recently. He marveled at the changes from horse-drawn power to the huge tractors and farm machinery of today.
Glenn is survived by one daughter, Charlotte (Mrs. Warren Tilton) of Mason City; four sons, Marvin Jones and his wife, Cynthia, of Tempe, Ariz., Roger Jones and his wife, Peggy, of Okoboji; Shelby Jones of Des Moines, and Victor Jones and his wife, Sandy, of Tempe, Ariz.; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren who sincerely mourn and will miss him.
