IVAN JOHN LANGLITZ

MESERVEY - Funeral services for Ivan John Langlitz, 83, of Meservey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church of Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey and after 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the church.

Ivan John Langlitz was born on April 3, 1917, in Meservey to George and Alma (Willer) Langlitz. Ivan received his schooling at Meservey and married Thelma Wiemann on March 20, 1940, in the First Reformed Church parsonage in Meservey.

Ivan and Thelma were involved in farming until 1968, when he became custodian at the elementary school in Meservey. After his retirement in 1983, he did seasonal farm work.

Ivan's family and friends were especially important to him. He loved his grandchildren and took great joy in spending time with them. Ivan also was an avid sports fan and enjoyed pitching horseshoes and playing softball.

Ivan died on Thursday morning (May 11, 2000) at his home in Meservey at the age of 83.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Thelma; sons, Randall and his wife, Lee, of Aurelia, and Harlan and his wife, Nancy, of Meservey; a daughter, Glenda Von Arb and her husband, Robert, of Alton; six grandchildren, Grant Langlitz and his wife, Roxanne, Lisa Langlitz, Cory and Jody Von Arb, and Brooke and Lincoln Langlitz; and one great-granddaughter, Madeline Langlitz.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, Leland "Bud" Langlitz.

THELMA WALSTAD BIRUM JENSEN

OSAGE - Thelma Walstad Birum Jensen, 87, of Osage, died Wednesday (May 10, 2000) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage. Thelma was born July 25, 1912, in Osage, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Rinnan) Walstad. She attended schools in Osage and graduated from Osage High School and remained a resident of Osage throughout her life.

Thelma was united in marriage to Roy "Toby" Birum on Oct. 1, 1934. He passed away in July of 1972. Thelma worked with Roy and his parents, Fred and Lydia Birum, in the Birum Café in Osage. She also worked at the Kane Drug Store and the Daylight Store, both in Osage.

Thelma was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent at the Immanual Lutheran Church for 18 years. She was a faithful member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church. Thelma was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, serving as president for a number of years.

On May 7, 1981, Thelma was united in marriage to Norval Jensen at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. In her younger years, Thelma enjoyed playing golf at Sunny Brae Country Club in Osage, where she made a hole in one on No. six.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St. in Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage, (515) 732-3706, and will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Thelma is survived by her husband of 19 years, Norval Jensen, of Osage; a daughter, Penny Maas and her husband, Leo, of Claremont, Minn.; two sons, David Birum and his wife, Maureen, of Osage and Frederick Birum and his wife, Margarita, of Stewartville, Minn.; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ellen Siebels and Gertrude Weinschenck, both of Osage; also several nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Anna Walstad; her first husband, Roy "Toby" Birum; one sister, Harriet Walstad; and one brother, Ernest Walstad.

JANET S. FOX

RICEVILLE - Janet S. Fox, 87, of Riceville, passed away on Thursday (May 11, 2000) at the Osage Rehabilitation and Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home in Riceville, with the Rev. Herschel Hawf officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Lindstrom Funeral home in Riceville.

Janet was born in Waterloo on June 30, 1912, to James G. and Jeanie (Black) Smith. She attended local schools and graduated from high school in Waterloo.

On Oct. 30, 1933, Janet was united in marriage to Theis Fox in Waterloo. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to their farm in rural Riceville.

Survivors include one son, James and his wife, Rita, of Wabasha, Minn.; and one daughter, Carol Lou and her husband, Adolph Brunner, of Riceville; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Theis, on Aug. 2, 1963; a daughter in infancy; a grandson, Dale E. Brunner, on July 19, 1976; one brother, Don W. Smith; and one sister, Alice J. Warner.

RICEVILLE - Joan M. Marley, 57, of Riceville, died Wednesday (May 10, 2000) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Conway Funeral Home in Riceville, with a 5 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. scripture service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

MESERVEY - Alice K. Dirks, 97, of Meservey, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

MILDRED ALICE ALLEN

MASON CITY - Mildred Alice (Paulson) Allen, 96, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (May 10, 2000) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating.

DELILAH OLSON

FOREST CITY - Delilah Olson, 81, of Forest City, died Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church in rural Forest City, with the Rev. Bob Snitzer officiating. Burial will be in Brush Point Cemetery in Fertile.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Delilah B. Olson was born on June 27, 1918, in Fertile, the daughter of Ben and Molly (Nelson) Myhre. She received her education in Fertile and graduated from Fertile Consolidated School.

She was united in marriage to Dan Olson in 1947. The couple made their home in Minneapolis for many years. Delilah worked for the Honeywell Corporation there. After Dan's death in 1970, Delilah returned to the Fertile-Forest City area and had lived there since.

Her family was very important to her and she spent time being available to help her parents and her sister, Ruth. Delilah was a member of the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church.

She was an avid reader. Her failing health forced her to remain in her home much of the time and with the help of family, friends and volunteers, she was able to maintain her independence. In April of 2000, she entered the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City. She died at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City on May 11, 2000, at the age of 81 years.

Delilah is survived by a brother-in-law, Leslie "Mike" Wolfe, of Fertile and a sister-in-law, Velma Myhre, of Clear Lake; also serveral nieces and nephews, Deanna Jordan and her husband, Raymond, of Fertile, Harold Wolfe, of Clear Lake, Robert Wolfe and his special friend, Sandy Yuhouse, of Clear Lake, Linda Nuehring and her husband, Lowell, of Clear Lake, Mike Myhre, of California, Julie Robinson and her husband, Wayne, of South Carolina and Gary Myhre and his wife, Barb, of Texas; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Ruth Wolfe; and a brother, Lloyd Myhre.

DONALD MAASS

MASON CITY - Donald Maass, 63, of 4926 West 144th St., Savage, Minn., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at Regions Hospital, St. Paul, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony conducted by members of the Mason City Memorial Association.

Memorials may be directed to the Donald Maass Memorial Fund.

Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. Tuesday until time of service at St. James Lutheran Church. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Maass was born April 27, 1937, in Mason City, the son of Harold and Lena (Albers) Maass. He attended Mason City High School and later enlisted into the U.S. Air Force. He served in the military for 20 years. While stationed in South Korea, he met his future wife, Sang Chloe. They moved to Mason City in March of 1975 and got married on April 12, 1975. They lived in St. Louis, Mo., and Rosemont, Minn., before moving to Savage, Minn., where they made their home. Donald worked for the State Health Department for 15 years before retiring.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sang Maass, of Savage, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Robert Maass.

VELMA KRULL

MARBLE ROCK - Velma Krull, 94, formerly of 610 College Street, Marble Rock, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Marble Rock, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Burial will be in Westside Cemetery, Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, 423 Bradford, Marble Rock, and one hour prior to services at the church.

ORVAL G. JAMTGAARD

CRYSTAL LAKE - Orval G. Jamtgaard, 83, formerly of Crystal Lake, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at the Nora Springs Care Center, Nora Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, Crystal Lake, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in the Crystal Lake cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church. Full military services will be conducted by members of Crystal Lake American Legion Post 409.

Orval, the son of Peder and Inga Stene Jamtgaard, was born Feb. 12, 1917, in Union County, S.D. He was raised in South Dakota and attended country schools there. Following graduation from the eighth grade, he farmed with his father and did part-time farm work for local farmers.

He was united in marriage to Arlene Younie of Hawarden on Oct. 8, 1939. Following their marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City, where he worked for Swift and Company in the pork-curing department.

He was drafted into the military in February of 1944. He served two years with the U.S. Marine Corps and was discharged in January of 1946.

The couple moved to Crystal Lake in February of 1946 where he worked for his brother in the blacksmith business. In October of 1948 he purchased the business from Silas and continued to operate the business until he retired in 1982. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and sports. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a 50-year member of American Legion Post 409 of Crystal Lake and a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose.

He served as mayor of Crystal Lake for three and one half years. He was a member of the Senior Citizens of Crystal Lake and enjoyed working with them and helping the Legion Post organize the Avenue of Flags for veterans of the area. He enjoyed his family, working with his son, John, for 18 years, and all of his friends and customers.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; son, Gene Jamtgaard and his wife, Jan, of Nora Springs, and son, John Jamtgaard and his friend, Teresia, of Mason City; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Hartman and her husband, Marvin, of Schuyler, Nebr.; and two brothers, Silas Jamtgaard and his wife, Amy, of Mason City, and Robert Jamtgaard and his wife, Betty, of Abilene, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

DALE A. DOUGHAN

ALGONA - Dale A. Doughan, of Algona, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, where there will be a 4 p.m. parish rosary and a 7:30 p.m. parish prayer service.

Dale E. Doughan was born on a farm near Britt, on Nov. 11, 1930, the son of Raymond A. Doughan and Helen Marie Yegge Doughan. He attended country schools and graduated from Britt High School in May of 1948. He enlisted in the U. S. Army, where he served for one year, and then served four years in the U.S. Air Force until his honorable discharge in December of 1954.

He married Marcella Wellik on July 21, 1955, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Duncan. He owned Dale's Dairy Crème in Britt for several years. He also served as a field man with the Watkins Company and Occo Feed. Dale enjoyed sales and spent many years as a salesman for the Gambles Store in Algona. In 1974, Dale and Marcie started the North Iowa Collection Service where he continued to work until this spring.

Dale served on the Algona Ambulance Service for 10 years. He was one of the founders of the Algona Food Pantry in 1985. He served as its director from 1990 until his death. He spent many years dedicated to working and serving with Alcoholics Anonymous. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Dale was a long-time member of St. Cecelia's Catholic Church in Algona, where he served on the church board and as an usher.

He loved people, especially his wife, children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Marcella; children, the Rev. Larry Doughan and his wife, Connie Jean, of Ledyard, David Doughan of Kwangju, South Korea, Timothy Doughan and wife, Julie, of Daphne, Ala., Connie Esser and husband, Pat, of Lawrenceville, Ga., Barbara Stepanek and husband, Bill, of Cedar Rapids, Katherine Vitzthum and husband, Keith, of Slater, Raymond Doughan and wife, Becky, of Bettendorf, and Lisa Doughan of Ankeny; his mother, Marie Doughan, of Britt; two brothers, Gene Doughan of Pequot Lake, Minn., and Allan Doughan, of Britt; two sisters, Donna Nelson of Clear Lake and Shirley Ann Sallade of Bloomington, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; and special friends, Cathy Howell and Pia Ammann.

Dale was preceded in death by his father, Raymond Doughan, in 1976, a sister, Charlotte, and his brother, Larry Lee.

CYRIL "CY" E. MOZACK

BRITT - Cyril "Cy" E. Mozack, 78, of Britt, passed away Thursday (May 11, 2000) at Hancock County Memorial Hospital, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church today. Full military honors will be provided by members of the Britt Veterans of Foreign Wars post.

Cyril, the son of Ellis and Goldie Maye Clark Mozack was born Feb. 18, 1922, on a farm north of Britt. He attended country schools in the area and worked on the farm for his brother-in-law until March 2, 1943, when he was called to serve his country in World War II. He served in the Pacific Theatre until his discharge on Dec. 25, 1945.

Cy was united in marriage with Edna Mae Hildebrand on Feb. 18, 1946. They farmed together east of Britt for 27 years. When he quit farming he worked for Marting Manufacturing until he retired in 1985.

Cy was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed trap shooting and was a member of the Ventura Gun Club. He enjoyed music, especially the organ, accordion and fiddle. His grandchildren were his joy, and he took great pride in their accomplishments. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men's Group and the Britt VFW.

Cy is survived by his wife, Edna; daughter, Charlotte Hejlik and her husband, Ken, of Britt; son, Larry Mozack and his wife, JoAnn, of Mason City; son, Randy Mozack of Mission, S.D.; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Leona Hansen and her husband, Dick, of Minneapolis, Minn.; and two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

LILLIAN A. FLATNESS

MASON CITY - Lillian A. Flatness, 91, of 1315 Third St. N.W., died Friday (May 12, 2000) at USA Healthcare.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Lillian A. Flatness was born March 15, 1909, in Spillville, the daughter of Anton and Anna (Luckesh) Fisher. She attended Spillville schools. She moved to Mason City where she married Fred Rodas in 1942. He passed away during January 1970.

On April 12, 1977, Lillian was married to Henry Flatness. Lillian was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of the Elizabeth Church Circle. She was also a former member of the Sons of Norway.

Lillian is survived by her husband, Henry Flatness of Mason City; son, John Rodas and his wife, Delores, of Arlington, Va.; grandson, John A. Rodas, of Arlington, Va.; granddaughter, Patty Rodas, of Arlington, Va.; stepson, Ron Flatness and wife, Ragna, of Mason City; stepdaughter, Delores Low and husband, Allen, of Northwood; four sisters, Loretta Diehl of Mason City, Lucille Weland of Mason City, Leone Smith and husband, Richard, of Rochester, Minn., and Lorraine Nehls and husband, Larry, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband, one infant daughter, a special niece and one brother in infancy.

DOROTHY STARR

CHARLES CITY - Dorothy, Mrs. Jim Starr, a former resident of 51 Cedar Terrace South, died Sunday (May 14, 2000) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home, Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hauser Funeral Home, Charles City. Gale Richards, pastor of the Colwell United Church of Christ, will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., and from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

Dorothy Johnson Starr was born Feb. 12, 1915, in Howard County, the daughter of Henry and Jennie Sheets Johnson. She received her education in Howard County country schools and at the Elma school.

On Oct. 1, 1932, she was united in marriage to Charles "Jim" Starr at Charles City. Jim died on March 8, 1991. The couple farmed in the Alta Vista area all their lives, moving to Charles City in 1990.

Living family members include three sons and their wives, James and Rose Starr of Charles City, Charles and Clare Starr of Washburn and Herbert and Betty Starr of Clear Lake; five daughters and their husbands, Lorraine and Elvin Enderson of Lake Mills, Delores and Bob Wright, Shirley and Larry Katcher and Lucile and Bill Dunn, all of Charles City, and Marjorie and LeRoy Roethler, of Elma; 28 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Viola Gorman of Cedar Rapids, Velma and her husband, Orville Zubrod, of Alta Vista, and Maxine and her husband, John Blietz, of Waterloo; and a brother-in-law, Buster and his wife, Betty Starr, of Charles City.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two grandsons and a great granddaughter.

NICHOLAS M. LEE

MASON CITY - Nicholas Michael Lee, 3-month-old son of Shawn Michael and Michelle (Gabel) Lee, 1260 Plymouth Road, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at University Hospitals, Iowa City, following a lengthy illness.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt Street, Charles City, with Monsignor Walter V. Brunkan of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Roseville, officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Roseville.

Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where there will be a rosary service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Nicholas Michael Lee was born Feb. 12, 2000, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa. He was baptized into the Catholic faith by Father Kenneth Gehling at Mercy Medical Center. Nicholas was lovingly attached to his Pooh Bear and the gang.

He is survived by his parents, Shawn and Michelle Lee of Mason City; a sister, Taylor LeeAnn Lee, at home; maternal grandparents, David and Deborah Gabel, rural Rockford; paternal grandparents, Larry and Judy Lee, Mason City; maternal great-grandmother, Catherine Freund, Mason City; paternal great-grandmother, Geraldine Marlin, Fremont; a maternal uncle and his special friend, who were also Nicholas's godfather and godmother, Michael Gabel and Heather Simon, Rockford; a paternal uncle and godfather, Seth Lee, Arlington, Va.; and a paternal uncle and aunt, Shannon and Karie Lee, of San Diego, Calif. Nicholas is also survived by numerous great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Ted and Margaret Gabel and Pete Freund, and paternal great-grandparents, Wayne and Janet Lee and Ernest Marlin.

LuVERNE - Barbara K. Marty, 50, of LuVerne, died Saturday (May 13, 2000) at the Villa Care Center, Fort Dodge.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church, LuVerne, with the Rev. Dale Reisner officiating. Burial will be in LuVerne Cemetery at a later date. Her body was donated to University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, LuVerne.
