ANGELINE MATALONI

MASON CITY - Angeline Mataloni, 89, of 1514 N. Madison, died Monday (Jan. 10, 2000) at Community Hospital, Grand Junction, Colo.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City. A scriptural wake service will begin at 5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed for Masses in memory of Angeline Mataloni.

Angeline was born Aug. 14, 1910, in Mason City, the daughter of Antonio and Rose Abbate. Ann worked as a self-employed seamstress for over 60 years in the Mason City area.

She married Joseph Mataloni on Aug. 4, 1928, in Mason City.

Ann enjoyed her sewing, family and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and Ladies Aid of Holy Family.

Ann is survived by two daughters, Theresa Tait, Tucson, Ariz., and JoAnn Nelson and her husband, Jim, of Grand Junction, Colo.; five grandchildren, Karen Romersa, Tempe, Ariz., Kristin Tait, Scottsdale, Ariz., Bill W. Tait and his wife, Jennifer, Southerlin, Ore., Harold W. Tait, Grand Junction, Colo., and Tracy Raich and her husband, David, Wayne, N.J.; nine great-grandchildren, Hal W. Tait III, Starlyn Tait, Lauren Tait, Krystal Tait, Jesse Tait, Robert Tait, Roslyn Tait, Allyson Raich and Wyatt Raich; one sister, Kay DiMarco, Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

Ann was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph; three sisters; and two brothers in infancy.

FRIEDA M. THORSON

MASON CITY - Frieda M. Thorson, 92, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Manly Care Center.

BRITT - Esther Tjaden, 92, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at Westview Care Center in Britt.

AVIS A. STRIKE

NASHUA - Avis A. Strike, 91, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Congregational Church, Nashua. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Nashua.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, Nashua, and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Monday.

Memorials may be directed to the family.

Avis A. Strike was born March 9, 1908, at Nashua, the daughter of Reginald and Rena (Springer) Stuelke. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1925 and received her bachelor of arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa, Cedar Falls, in 1965.

Avis married Hollis D. Strike on Dec. 10, 1927.

She taught school for seven years in rural Nashua schools and 16 years at Nashua Elementary School. She retired in 1970.

Avis is survived by two sons and their spouses, Marvin and Marjorie Strike, of Waukon, and Burton and Marlis Strike, of Newton; two daughters, Beverly Bennett, of Atlantic, and Marilyn Strike, of Mason City; one sister, Margaret Barth of Allison; one sister-in-law, Gladys Strike, of Nashua; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Hollis "Hod" Strike on Jan. 15, 1998; one daughter, Shirley Jean Strike; three brothers, Gaylord, Wendell and Theron Stuelke; and one sister, Lucille Ryan.

STUART DORN ERICKSON

IOWA FALLS - Stuart Dorn Erickson, 66, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000, at his home in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will held at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethany Lutheran Church, Iowa Falls, with the Rev. Brian King officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Iowa Falls. Full military rites will be provided by Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls.

Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Suris Funeral Home, 505 Stevens St., Iowa Falls. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Stuart Dorn Erickson was born on May 5, 1933, in Cloquet, Minn., the son of Glen and Alice Phipps Erickson. He graduated from Cloquet, Minn., High School in 1951 and then attended Gale Telegraph School in Minneapolis.

He was a member of the U. S. Army from 1953-55 as a paratrooper in the 503rd Infantry Regiment.

On Nov. 6, 1955, he married Gladys Ness in Holt, Minn.

Stuart was a telegrapher clerk and agent of the Rock Island Railroad for 30 years.

He was a member of the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188 of Iowa Falls and Mason Home Lodge No. 192 of Iowa Falls.

Stuart was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Iowa Falls.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys; three sons, Brian Erickson and his wife, Diane, and their children, James and Jennifer, of Belmond, Mark Erickson and his wife, Susan, and their children, Kara and Kassie, of Belmond, and Scott Erickson and his wife, Connie, and their children, Ben, Chad and Amy, of Garner; a brother, Dale Erickson, of Duluth, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Irene Harstad, of Big Lake, Minn; a brother-in-law, Orlin Ness, of Holt, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Alan; and an aunt, Doris Phipps.

ALFRED MITCHELL TRULSON

BRITT - Alfred Mitchell Trulson, 51, formerly of Britt, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Mo.

TOM BERREGAARD

COULTER - Tom Berregaard, 84, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at Mercy Hospital North Iowa from complications of pneumonia.

Tom was born on Jan. 12, 1916, in Thisted, Denmark, the son of Soren and Bertha (Jensen) Bjerregaard. He attended several universities in Sweden, Germany, England and Denmark. While at the University of Cambridge in England, he was awarded Best Boatman on Oars in international competition. He held Ph.D. degrees in forestry, landscape architecture, surveying and civil engineering, and he held professorships in forestry and civil engineering. He was a colonel in the Royal British Air Force.

He immigrated to the United States in 1951 and became a naturalized citizen on April 10, 1958.

He was an avid sportsman and fisherman. He was a true naturalist. Tom was known as the "Tree Doctor" and operated his own tree and landscaping business.

Those surviving and thankful for sharing Tom's life include his wife, Nancy Berregaard of Coulter; one son, Dan, and his wife, Lori, and their children, Danielle, Emily, Hannah and Elijah Berregaard, of Cedar Falls; one daughter, Suzie Berregaard and her children, Shianne and Samuel Thomas, of Des Moines. Tom had six brothers and two sisters. One sister, Birgit Toft, lives in California, the others remained in Denmark.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents, one sister and several brothers.

According to his wishes, Tom's body will be cremated, which will take place at Cremation Services of North Iowa. A private family service will take place at a later date.

Cards of sympathy and /or contributions to a memorial fund set up in his name at the Fish and Wildlife Division of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources can be sent to his wife at P.O. Box 117, Coulter, IA 50431.

ELNA (MRS. RAYMOND) NASH

CHARLES CITY - Elna (Mrs. Raymond ) Nash, 87, of Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home, formerly of 605 Eighth Ave., died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) at the nursing home.

ALLENE METHENY

CHARLES CITY - Allene Metheny, 78, of 303 St. Mary's St., died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at her home.

Funeral services will be held in Jackson, Mo, with McCombs Funeral Home Inc. in charge of the arrangements. Hauser Funeral Home of Charles City was in charge of local arrangements.

LOIS P. KASTER

VENTURA -Lois P. Kaster, 90, of 307 Sixth St. S.E., Mason City, formerly of Ventura, died Friday (Jan. 14, 2000) at the Mason City Homestead Assisted Living Residence.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ventura United Methodist Church with the Rev. Paul Hasel officiating. Interment will be in Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake.

The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Lois P. Kaster Memorial Fund.

Lois was born Jan. 10, 1910, in Clear Lake, the daughter of Charles Chester and Ida (Paul) Dawson. She graduated from Clear Lake High School.

Lois married Harold (Tuffy) Kaster June 5, 1928. They later established Kasters Cove, Ventura, which they owned and operated until her husband's death in 1976. After her daughter's death in 1986, she moved to Mason City to be by her brother Milton Dawson.

Lois enjoyed politics, traveling and going out to dinner with her friends.

Lois is survived by a nephew, Merrill Dawson, and his wife, Phyllis, and their family, Belleville, Ill, and also several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold in 1976; a daughter, Patricia in 1986; two brothers, Milton and Max Dawson; and two sisters, Violet and Mary Dawson.

JAMES "J" OHDEN

FLOYD - James "J" Ohden, 21, died Saturday (Jan. 15, 2000) as a result of a car accident near Marble Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Eden Presbyterian Church, rural Rudd, with the Rev. John Bates officiating. Interment will be in Eden Presbyterian Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church Tuesday.

James was born Nov. 30, 1978, in Osage, the son of Jim and Barb (Wiltse) Ohden. J attended Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock schools and graduated in 1997. While in school he participated in football and basketball and he was member of the 4-H and FFA organizations.

After J graduated he worked construction for a short time and then worked for Trettins in Rockford. Most recently he worked for Balsam Co-op in Rockford.

J was a member of the Eden Presbyterian Church. In his spare time he enjoyed working on his car and spending time with family and friends.

He is survived by his parents, Jim and Barb Ohden, Floyd; two sisters, Jamie Ohden and Juli Ohden, Floyd; grandparents, John and Alice Ohden, Floyd, Vernon and Elizabeth Redwine, Osage, and Bob and Cindy Wiltse, Charles City; great-grandmother, Viola Wiltse, Charles City; and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

J was preceded in death by his paternal great-grandparents and maternal great-grandfather.
