MASON CITY - Dorothy A. Tenney, 89, of Mason City, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the First Christian Church, 318 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Rick Eichenlaub officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

DUANE AUSTIN MCCURRY

BELMOND - Duane Austin McCurry, 82, of Belmond, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond, with Pastor Celestyne DeVance officiating. Burial will take place in the United Methodist Swiss Cemetery near Renwick.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luick Lane S., Belmond, with a 7 p.m. Masonic service. There will be visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

ROBERT COUNSELL

LITTLE CEDAR - Robert Counsell, 66, of Little Cedar, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City of natural causes.

Bob was born March 2, 1933, near New Haven, the son of Lloyd Sr. and Harriett (Strong) Counsell. He attended Little Cedar schools and graduated from Little Cedar High School, where he participated in baseball and basketball.

Bob was united in marriage to Alta Julius on July 27, 1952, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Osage. Bob hauled milk for the Little Cedar Creamery for several years. He then was employed at the Little Cedar Grain Elevator, where he became manager until his retirement.

He enjoyed fishing, gardening and his family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at the Little Cedar United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ted Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery, Little Cedar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the Church.

Those that survive him include his wife, Alta Counsell, of Little Cedar; three daughters, Debra Conrad and her husband, Dennis, of Little Cedar, Darla Kelly and her husband, Darrell, of Belmond and Donna Hanson and her husband, Raymond, of Little Cedar; five grandchildren, Lonnie Conrad and his wife, Leslie, Christina Noah and her husband, Jeremy, Crystal Jacobs, Michael Hanson and Jason Hanson; one great-granddaughter, MaKayla Noah; two stepgreat-grandchildren, Nicholas and Natasha Duryee; and two brothers, Lloyd Counsell Jr. and Owen Counsell, both of Osage.

Preceding him in death were his parents, a sister, a brother and a son-in-law.

JOYCE J. WILLAND

NORTHWOOD - Joyce J. Willand, 60, died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Al Stoa and the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be at State Line Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

Joyce was born on March 27, 1939, in Worth County, to Orble and Margaret (Neilandt) Godfrey. She was baptized and confirmed at Northwood United Methodist Church.

Joyce married Wayne Willand on Sept. 26, 1959, at the Northwood United Methodist Church.

Joyce was a Sunday school teacher, choir member and on the church council. She was also a 4-H leader, served on the extension council and was a cook at the Northwood Senior Center. Joyce loved going to her grandchildren's sporting events and concerts. She also loved cooking, biking, crafts and collecting beanies.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Wayne, of Northwood; three daughters, Wendy Weisert and her husband, Mike, and children, Brandon, Ryan and Jason, of Northwood, Wynnette Tews and children, Heather, Tyler and Brittany, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Wanda Christensen and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; two sons, Wayde Willand and his wife, Jill, of Owatonna, Minn., and Wendell Willand and special friend, Penny Portis, and children, Alyssa and Erika, of Mason City; mother, Margaret Godfrey, of Northwood; mother-in-law, Ellnora Willand, of Northwood; sister, Arlene Salz and her husband, Jack, of Mason City; brothers-in-law, Warren Willand and his wife, Harriet, of Northwood; and Ward Willand and his wife, Emilie, of Kensett.

Joyce was preceded in death by her father, Orble Godfrey; a brother, Norman; and father-in-law, Walter Willand.

OLIANNA VINAAS

OTTOSEN - Olianna Vinaas, 96, formerly of Ottosen, died Wednesday (Dec. 29, 1999) at the Trinity Regional Hospital, Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church at Ottosen, with Pastor Robert Molldrem officiating. Burial will be in the Union Cemetery in Ottosen.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home, Humboldt.

Olianna Lee, the daughter of Osmond and Anna Lee, was born Sept. 18, 1903, in Norway. She was raised and educated there and emigrated to America in 1930, making her home in the Thor area.

She was united in marriage to John Vinaas and they farmed near Ottosen for many years until retiring. They lived in Ottosen. After the death of Mr. Vinaas she continued to maintain her home and live in Mason City near her daughter during the winter months. Mrs. Vinaas was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church at Ottosen. She had recently resided at Friendship Haven, Fort Dodge.

Mrs. Vinaas is survived by her son, Alf Lee, of Fort Dodge; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Inger Rogness, of Humboldt.

She was preceded in death by her parents, seven brothers and sisters, husband, John and daughter, Janice Smeby.

VENTURA - Barbara Clark, 74, of Ventura, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

MASON CITY - Robert B. Angell, 46, of 1207 S. Rhode Island Ave., died Thursday (Dec. 30, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at the First Covenant Church, Ohio and Highway 122, with Pastor Rich Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

LENORA F. TIENKEN

RICEVILLE - Lenora F. Tienken, 91, of Riceville, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Colonial Manor in Elma.

Lenora was born Jan. 28, 1908, in McIntire, to Frank and Pearl (Hockens) Robbins. She attended school in McIntire and was united in marriage to Robert M. Tienken on July 3, 1924, in Cresco. Robert died in 1968.

Together they farmed in the Riceville area for the majority of their life together. Lenora moved to Riceville in 1974 and remained there until she entered the care center in Elma on July 6, 1999.

She is survived by a granddaughter, Karen Tienken, of Elma, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, at the Wayne Baptist Church in McIntire, with Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday at the Hindt-Hutchins Funeral Home, 615 N. Broadway, LeRoy, Minn., and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

CLEAR LAKE - Liberty M. Jenkins, 81, of Clear Lake, died Friday (Dec. 31, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

JANET MARY NOVAK

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Janet Mary Novak, 49, of Fort Collins, Colo., died Tuesday (Dec. 28, 1999) at her home in Fort Collins. Services were held in Fort Collins.

Cremation will take place in Fort Collins, Colo.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 2, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society to be used for Breast Cancer Research.

Janet was born Dec. 6, 1950, in Milwaukee, Wis., the daughter of Edward Howell Griffiths and Theresa Mary Gorichanaz. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in English. She was a member of Sigma Tau Delta honor society.

She married Gerald F. Novak on Feb. 1, 1975, in West Allis, Wis. She was a former resident of Mason City, St. Louis, Mo., and Milwaukee. She had been a resident of Fort Collins since June of 1997.

She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, a real estate title examiner, mother and homemaker. Her interests included the Breast Cancer Support Group (on the Internet). She had a strong love for her family and friends and her strong spirit and determination will be sadly missed.

Her survivors include her father, Gerald H. Griffiths, of Minoqua, Wis.; husband, Gerald F. Novak, of Fort Collins, Colo.; daughter, Allison E. Novak, of Fort Collins, Colo.; three brothers, James E. Griffiths, Edward H. Griffiths III, and Jon E. Griffiths, all of Milwaukee; and one sister, Judith Ann Bernhagen, of Cary, N.C.

She was preceded in death by her mother.
