ST. ANSGAR - Neul "Lucky" Larson, 90, of St. Ansgar, died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation will begin after 11 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

ALGONA - Kenneth L. Holcomb Sr., 81, of Algona, died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 1999) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

GARNER - William P. Jakoubek, 85, of Garner died Thursday (Nov. 25, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Interment will be in St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan.

MASON CITY - Madelyn E. Walls, 75, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Nov. 24, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Wayside Chapel of the First United Methodist Church, 119 S. Georgia Ave. Mason City.

MARLENE K. BACKHAUS

MANLY - Marlene K. Backhaus, 57, of Manly, died Thursday (Nov. 25, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice House after a lengthy battle with Cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St., Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be at the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 until 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly.

Memorials may be directed to the family for a scholarship fund in Marlene's name, which will be determined later.

Marlene was born on Sept. 13, 1942 in Faith, S.D., the daughter of Victor and Nonabelle (Howie) Ellefson. She attended Barada County School in Marcus, S.D. and graduated from high school in Faith, S.D. She graduated from Augusta College in Sioux Falls, S.D., majoring in Education.

Marlene was united in marriage to Norman Backhaus on Nov. 26, 1965 in Manly. She taught art and physical education in the Northwood-Kensett school system for three years before becoming a full time homemaker. She later worked for Plant Ranch in Manly for 10 years.

Marlene was a leader for the Danville 4-H Club for over 15 years and was involved in many activities for the North Central school system. She was also a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and of the Entrenous Church Circle.

Marlene is survived by her husband, Norman, of Manly; her mother, Nonabelle, of Faith, S.D.; two sons, Rick Backhaus and his special friend, Lisa, of Manly and Brett Backhaus and his special friend, Jacki, of Kensett; two daughters, Darci Backhaus and her special friend, Joe, of Charles City and Nicole Backhaus, of Manly; three grandchildren, Brock, Brittany and Brady; two stepgrandchildren, Angela and Dustin; one brother, Dennis Ellefson and one sister, Annell Afdahl, both of Faith, S.D. and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Marlene was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents; her father, Victor; and one brother, John.

CORWITH - Patricia "Pat" Waltman, 66, of Corwith, died Thursday (Nov. 25, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church, of Corwith, with the Rev. Kim A. Gates and the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Corwith Cemetery.
