MASON CITY - John "Jack" Roach, 65, of 522 N. Pennsylvania Ave., died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

A Memorial service will be held at noon on Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Reverend Dennis Cahill, of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, officiating.

There will be no visitation. His body was cremated.

John "Jack" Roach was born June 15, 1933, in Iowa City, the son of David and Esther Roach. He lived most of his life in California, moving to Mason City in 1982.

Jack was a bartender in many different places in Mason City and also owned and operated his own bar for a while. He enjoyed his work and was always a friendly, happy person.

He is survived by one son, Dennis Bor and his wife, Kathy, Mason City; and two granddaughters, Valerie Bor, Mason City; and Amie Bor, California; two sisters, Jean Tostenson and LaVon Kamper; one brother, Jerry Roach; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernel and James Roach; and two sisters, Betty Benson and Shirley Ankeny.

MASON CITY - Marie K. Clark, 96, of 424 24th St. S.W., Mason City, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Good Shepherd Health Care Center, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Carl A. Ries officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a St. Theresa Circle Rosary beginning at 4:30 p.m. followed by a Scriptural prayer service at 7 p.m.

Marie Katherine Clark was born June 30, 1902, in Belmont, Wis., daughter of Bernard W. and Kate (Hying) Bernemann. She married Charles F. "Jack" Clark on February 28, 1928, in Mason City.

Marie moved to Mason City in 1908. She attended St. Joseph High School and Hamilton Business College. In 1948, she started working at J.C. Penneys until retiring in 1960. In 1961, she began working at Sam Raizes Department Store until retiring in 1979.

She enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, reading, and she loved to spend time with her family.

Marie was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church since 1908, St. Theresa Circle, the Friendly Birthday Club and the Firemens Auxiliary.

Survivors include one son, Richard C. Clark and his wife, Alice, Dubuque; four daughters, Marilyn Cimijotti and her husband, Abe, Ocala, Fla., Charlotte Clark, Mason City, Karen Garlock and her husband, Neil, Burnsville, Minn. and Kathryn Knutson, Spring Lake Park, Minn.; two sisters, Florence Berger, Forest City, and Genevieve Walters, Mason City; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers, Bill, Leo, Francis and Edward Bernemann; and one sister, Agnes Bernemann.

MASON CITY - Emma L. Everding, 91, formerly of 929 16th St. N.E., died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of the Holy Child at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, 419 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. Frederick J. Wood officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Emma L. Everding Memorial Fund.

Emma L. Everding was born January 21, 1908, near St. Ansgar, Iowa, the daughter of George A. and Martha (Ruehlow) Belz. Emma graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1926 and she also played girls high school basketball while she attended school.

Emma owned and operated a restaurant in St. Ansgar and then married Fred Everding. Emma then was a star route carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for several years.

Emma enjoyed sewing, crocheting, gardening and fishing and traveling with her husband in their motor home.

Emma was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church.

She is survived by one son, Ron Everding and his wife, Noreen, of Mason City, Iowa; and one sister, Ida Groth, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; nieces and nephews; and special friends, Ella Turk and Mary Hanson, of Mason City.

SHEFFIELD - Henry E. Pals, 93, of Sheffield, Iowa, died Sunday evening, March 14, 1999, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services for Henry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grarup Funeral Home, in Sheffield, with the Rev. Merlin Enabnit officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery, Meservey, Iowa.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to services on Wednesday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Henry was born on January 18, 1906, in Wisner Township, Franklin County, Iowa. He was the second child of six children born to Peter H. and Gesena (Wolters) Pals. His family farmed in the Belmond and Meservey areas.

Henry, better known as Hank, met and married Edna M. Johnson on April 19, 1930, in Meservey. To this union were born seven children.

Henry farmed in the Meservey, Clear Lake, and Rockwell areas before retiring in 1965. He worked at the Mason City Brick and Tile and continued to live in Sheffield. For the past six years, he resided in the I.O.O.F. home in Mason City.

He loved his family and grandchildren and was known for his kind, patient ways.

Henry is survived by one daughter, Patricia Enabnit and her husband, Ronald, of Iola, Kan.; four sons, Ronald Pals, of Mason City, Marvin "Pete" Pals, of Sheffield; Jerald Pals and his wife, Lois, of Mason City; and Allen Pals and his wife, Connie, of Warsau, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Lock, of Mason City, Lydia Hemmes, of Hampton, and Marie Vierkant, of Texas; and one brother, Andrew Pals, of Meservey, Iowa.

MASON CITY - Leola Elizabeth Cordle, 93, of 302 Second St. N.E., Mason City, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave. S., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the Leola Cordle Memorial Fund.

Leola Elizabeth Cordle was born August 18, 1905, in Burr Oak, Iowa, to Luther Henry and Nellie Mae (Feltis) Pierce. At a young age, her family moved to Mason City where she attended East Park School.

Leola married Fredrick W. Cordle on January 19, 1927, in Charles City, Iowa. Leola devoted her life to making a loving home for her family.

Leola was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church and the Priscilla Circle.

She was a wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all.

Her family includes daughter, Lorraine M. Logue, of Mason City, Iowa; son, Frederick Wayne Cordle and wife, Joan, of Manly, Iowa; son, Carroll Gene Cordle and wife, Della K., of Osage, Iowa; daughter, Dawn M. Cordle, of Mason City, Iowa; three sisters, Maxine Larrick, of Jefferson City, Mo.; Jessie Mae Michalek, of Mason City, Iowa; and LaVaughn Lichity and husband, DeRay, of Mason City, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

FOREST CITY - Funeral services for Alice Skogen will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Forest City, with the Rev. Robert Snitzer and the Rev. Marvin Skogen officiating. Burial will be at West Cemetery, Rake, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Alice Elizabeth Skogen, daughter of Nels Olai and Gertrude (Rake) Skogen, was born January 3, 1907, on her parents' farm in Winnebago County, Iowa.

She was baptized March 3 in Liberty Church, Rake, by P.B. Trelstad. Her sponsors were Elias Rake, Mary Oleson, Ole Skogen and Andrina Skogen.

When Alice was 5 years old, her mother taught her to read in the Norwegian ABC book. Alice attended English school when she was 7 years old. She graduated from the eighth grade in 1922 and she began to go to Waldorf Academy in Forest City, Iowa. Alice later finished nurses training at Park Hospital in Mason City in 1928, and graduated from Lutheran Bible Institute in 1943.

Alice was a Registered Nurse and worked at the Buffalo Center hospital and for many years at the Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis.

Alice passed away Saturday, March 13, 1999, at the Lake Mills Care Center where she had been a resident the past few years.

She is survived by one sister, Gladys Satter, of Canby, Oregon; one sister-in-law, Lucille Skogen, of Lake Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.

CRESCO - Merle A. Morris, 87, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco, Iowa.

Merle A. Morris was born on September 11, 1911, in Longmont, Colorado, the son of Mode and Lula (Hoblit) Morris. Merle's childhood was spent in Nora Springs, Iowa.

On June 11, 1938, Merle was united in marriage to Wilma Combs of Cresco, Iowa. Wilma died in 1997.

A retired farmer, Merle never lost his love of farming. He was always proud of his garden and shared its produce with family and friends.

He is survived by one brother, Robert and wife, Vivian, of Mason City, Iowa; six nieces, Ardith Bradshaw and husband, Roger, of Charles City, Iowa; Mary Lou McCauley and husband, Melvin, of Rockford, Iowa; Diann Jarosh and husband, Robert, Sharon Gatenby and husband, John, and Ramona Gager, all of Colorado and Glenice Schinnow and husband, Robert, of Ida Grove, Iowa; one nephew, Gary Morris and wife, Marji, of Forest City, Iowa.

Merle was preceded in death by his wife, Wilma; his parents, Mode and Lula Morris; two sisters, Vera Clapp and Ethel Reynolds; and three brothers, Clifford, Jack and Kenneth in infancy.

No funeral services will be held as Merle requested. A graveside memorial service in Oak Lawn Cemetery, in Cresco, will be held at a later date.

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. - Elizabeth Lynde, 61, of Crystal Lake, Ill., formerly of Meservey, Iowa, died Sunday (March 14, 1999).

She will be lying in state at Evangelical Free Church, 575 E. Crystal Lake Ave., Crystal Lake, Ill., until time of services at 10 a.m. Friday. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Skaja Bachmann Funeral Home, 7715 W. Route 14, Crystal Lake, Ill.

There will be a noon luncheon on Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Salem Methodist Church, in Meservey, Iowa. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Meservey Cemetery, in Meservey, Iowa.

Memorials may be given to the Stonecroft Ministries or Crystal Lake Evangelical Free Church, Crystal Lake, Ill.

Elizabeth Lynde was born Feb. 4, 1938, in Mason City to F.A. and Amalia (Huenemann) Lemke, of Meservey.

She was united in marriage to Charles E. Lynde, of Harris, Iowa, on June 21, 1963, in Mannheim Germany, while Charles was in the Army. Elizabeth taught in the Army School. She was a home bound tutor for 18 years in Home Bound Tutor School District 155, Crystal Lake, Ill.

She was an active member of Evangelical Free Church, of Crystal Lake, Ill. For 25 years she was active in Stonecroft Ministries through Christian Womens Clubs and Friendship Bible Coffees.

Survivors include her husband of 36 years, Charles Lynde, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; two sons, Charles Lynde and his wife, Andrea, of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Stephen Lynde, and his wife, Chris, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and one daughter, Lisa Lynde, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; grandchildren, Diana Lynde, Amalia Lynde, and Cameron Lynde, of Crystal Lake, Ill.; and Victor Lynde and Margo Elizabeth Lynde, of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and one brother, Ferd (Bethel) Lemke, of Meservey, Iowa.

EAGLE GROVE - Ona Mae Snyder, 71, of Eagle Grove, died Sunday (March 14, 1999).

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Eagle Grove.

ELMORE, Minn. - Everett G. Madetzke, 86, of Elmore, Minn., died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at St. Luke's Lutheran Home, Blue Earth, Minn.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, in Elmore, Minn. Private family graveside services will be held at St. John's Cemetery, before memorial services at the church.

MASON CITY - Lester Kitner, 75, of Mason City, died Monday (March 15, 1999) at his home.

LOTTS CREEK - Murial E. Long, 80, of Lotts Creek, died Monday (March 15, 1999) in Estherville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lotts Creek. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Bancroft.

OSAGE - Richard Colbertson, 55, of Osage, died Saturday (March 13, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson, the Rev. Roy Ott and the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

AURORA, Ill. - Arlene E. Charlson, 68, of Aurora, Ill, formerly of Lake Mills, died Sunday (March 14, 1999) at her home in Aurora.
