** Donald G. Clark

OSAGE — Donald G. Clark, 88, of Osage, died Friday, March 5, 1999, at Osage Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Osage.

Donald was born October 7, 1910, at Seward, Illinois, the son of George & Mary Jane (Smythe) Clark. He attended Seward schools and graduated from Orchard High School in 1927.

Donald married Winnifred Tyrrell on May 5, 1934, at Ames, Iowa. They first made their home in Orchard and later Osage. Donald was employed as a farmhand and later worked for Osage Farmers Produce, Young & Loften Veterinarians and Stang Farm & Home Supply.

Donald enjoyed caning chairs, and refinishing furniture. He also enjoyed horses, birds and nature. He very much enjoyed his family and especially his grandchildren.

Donald was a 50 year member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of Eastern Star and Past Patron. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Osage.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 8, 1999, at the First United Methodist Church, in Osage, with the Rev. Robert Barrick officiating. Burial will be in Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 until 8 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, in Osage, with a Masonic Service at 7:30 p.m. The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. There will also be visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

He is survived by two daughters, Marijane Bowman, of Rock Island, Illinois; and Shari Moulder and husband, Robert, of Eden Prairie, Minn.; four grandchildren, Charles Moulder, Jack Moulder, Tara Moulder, and Meghan Moulder; one brother, Paul Clark, of Rockford, Illinois.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Winnifred; one son, Gary; six brothers; and five sisters.

** Edward 'Ed' W. Peck

MASON CITY — Edward "Ed" W. Peck, 73, of Mason City, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center-East Campus.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N. E., with the Rev. Michael Schueller of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel and will continue for one hour prior to services on Monday.

Edward W. Peck was born April 23, 1925, in Alexander, the son of George and Grace (Greenfield) Peck.

Ed served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On February 3, 1951, he was united in marriage to Shirley Edel.

He was employed by Kurtz Food Specialties, owned and operated his own bar and also worked for American Crystal Sugar.

He helped organize the Knights of Columbus little league and was head of the Babe Ruth League for many years. He enjoyed spending time with friends, playing cards, and watching baseball.

He was a member of the V.F.W., Post #733, Mason City, St. Joseph Catholic Church and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV).

Survivors include five children, Thomas Peck, Chatanooga, TN.; Jane Larson and her husband, Todd, New Orleans, LA.; Anthony Peck and Jolene Peck, both of Mason City; Jennifer Martin and her husband, William, Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Catherine, Mary and William Martin, Clear Lake; one sister, Irene Keeper, Mason City; and one brother, Bill Lewis, Saginaw, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; one brother, Roger; and one sister, Vera.

** Wayne E. Braun

NORTHWOOD — Wayne E. Braun, 62, of Northwood, died on March 4, 1999 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 8, 1999 at the Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Grafton, Iowa with the Rev. Ernest Thompson officiating. Burial will be in the Grafton Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, Iowa.

Wayne was born on December 24, 1936 on a farm near Grafton, Iowa to Lawrence and Helen (Rademaker) Braun. He spent 6 years in the Army Reserves, then farmed for 42 years on a farm near Grafton, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kenneth; two sisters, Marcy Ritchey and Ann Nicholson; and one sister-in-law, Diann Braun.

Wayne is survived by five brothers, Wilfred and his wife, Mae, of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Lawrence Jr., of LeRoy, Minn.; Ray and his wife, Marlene, of Manly, Iowa; Dale and wife, Viola, of Emporia, Kansas; and Gary of Northwood; four sisters, Ethel and her husband, Robert Ballantyne, of Mason City, Iowa; Melba and her husband, Jim Marker, of Northwood; Phyllis Phelps, of Iowa City, Iowa; and Jean and her husband, Phil Thune, of Manly, Iowa.

** Robert J. Duponcheele

STACYVILLE, Iowa — Robert J. Duponcheele, 81, of Stacyville, Iowa, died on March 4, 1999 at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1999, at the St. Ansgar Catholic Church, St. Ansgar, Iowa, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar.

Robert was born on May 1, 1917, in Carpenter, Iowa, to Julius and Aldia (Eggermont) Duponcheele. He married Erma Duncan on June 20, 1950 in Stacyville, Iowa. They lived and farmed in the St. Ansgar and Stacyville area. Robert farmed all his life. He loved tractors and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Laura Vervaecke.

Robert is survived by his wife, Erma, of Stacyville, Iowa; one son, James of Stacyville; four daughters, Jean and her husband, Charles Jones, of Austin, Minn.; Judy and her husband, Curtis Krebsbach, of Adams, Minn.; Donna and her husband, Neil Hackbart, of Grafton, Iowa; Mary and her husband, Jeff Rosenberg, of Grafton; nine grandchildren, Joseph Bower, Raynae Bower, Melissa Krebsbach, Erin Krebsbach, Ashley Krebsbach, Jon Krebsbach, Amy Hackbart and her fiancee, Derrick Powers, Mindy Rosenberg and Ryan Rosenberg; two stepgrandchildren, Michael and Kevin Jones; two great-grandchildren, Robin and Jadye; three stepgreat-grandchildren, Alyssa, Connor and Madison; one sister, Julia and her husband, George Lambaere, of St. Ansgar; and many nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY — Beverly J. Pruessner, 71, of Mason City, died Friday (March 5, 1999) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester.

** Beatrice M. Grant

MASON CITY — Beatrice M. Grant, 78, of Mason City, died Wednesday (March 3, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave., with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Cremation will follow services with an inurnment on Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N. E., and one hour prior to services at the church today.

Beatrice M. Grant was born February 27, 1921, at Mason City, the daughter of Arthur Samuel and Grace (Emmerson) Ketchum.

On November 2, 1936, she married Ralph L. Holding; he preceded her in death on January 3, 1940. She then was married to George Joyce from 1942-1948. On September 8, 1953, she married James H. Grant; he preceded her in death on June 22, 1985.

Beatrice loved to camp, especially with her grandkids. She loved spending time with her grandkids and playing all sorts of games with them. She also enjoyed fishing and traveling. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church, Mason City and enjoyed volunteering through RSVP at the MacNider Art Museum.

Survivors include four children, Vi Clausen and her husband, Delmar, Ontrano; Archie Holding and his wife, Julie, Mesa, AZ.; Betty Frenz and her special friend, Jerry Hinkel, Nora Springs; and Robert Grant and his wife, Kathy, Mason City; grandchildren, Raland Holding and Marvin Holding and his wife, Lora, all of Mason City; Candee Hunchis and her husband, John, Grafton; Curt Clausen and his wife, Tammy and William Grant, all of Mason City; John Holding, Seattle, WA.; Jennifer Grant, Myersville, TX.; Tanya Frenz, Fairmont, MN.; and Alan Holding, Mesa, AZ.; great-grandchildren, Nicole Holding, Natasha Holding and Natalie Holding; Hannah Hunchis and Jess Clausen; one sister, Dorothy Schroder, Miami, AZ.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands; five brothers, Delmer, Walter, Albert, Oscar and John Ketchum; and two sisters, Opal Paul and Goldie Ketchum.

** Eugene 'Gene' A. Volkmer

MASON CITY — Eugene "Gene" A. Volkmer, 59, of 16 Winnebago Ct., Mason City, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the Laufersweiler Sievers Funeral Home, 307 S. 12th St., Fort Dodge, with the Rev. Ron Kitterman, Director of Pastoral Care, Friendship Haven Care Center, officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Fort Dodge, with full Military rites by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1856.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City; and from 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home, 307 S. 12th St., Fort Dodge.

Memorials may be given to the family.

Gene A. Volkmer was born September 11, 1939 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Anton and Emma (Gembler) Volkmer. He graduated from Otho High School in 1957.

He then entered the U.S. Army and served in Kitzegen, Germany for 2 ½ years. Gene returned to Fort Dodge where he worked at Cargill and then as a service station mechanic.

On July 9, 1966, Gene married Donna Ressler in Fort Dodge. Donna died in 1996. Gene served Fort Dodge as a police officer from 1969 until 1975 when they moved to Sioux City and he was employed by Farmland Industries. In 1983 Gene began working for Ag Processing and transferred to Mason City in 1985 and worked as a Senior Merchandiser.

On May 17, 1997 Gene married Marcia Porter in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Gene was a member of the American Legion Post 130 of Fort Dodge.

He enjoyed woodworking and spending time in the outdoors camping and doing yard work.

Gene is survived by his wife, Marcia Volkmer, of Mason City, Iowa; son, Steve Volkmer and wife, Heather, of Mason City, Iowa; daughter, Bobbi Schaffer and husband, Brent, of Loveland, Colorado; stepdaughter, Debra Russ, of Mason City, Iowa; stepson, Ken Bockoven and wife, Connie, of Mason City, Iowa; stepson, Tim Wiese, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; stepdaughter, Tina Guthrie, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; five grandchildren; mother, Emma Lentsch, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; sisters, Darlene McCurdy, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Hazel Lentsch, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Grace Kotalik and husband, Irv, of Yankton, South Dakota; Bernise Julch, of Sioux City, Iowa; and Loraine Lauver, of Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his father, three brothers, one sister, and one grandchild.

CLEAR LAKE — Alton C. Tenold, 86, of 2112 Pine Tree Ct., Clear Lake, died Friday (March 5, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Services are tentatively set for 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1999, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

CHARES CITY — Amy (Mrs. Paul) Lockie, 94, a former resident of 206 9th Ave., Charles City, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with the Rev. J. Larry Vallery and the Rev. Debra Lincoln officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery at Charles City.

NORTHWOOD -— Arnold Byron Anderson Jr., 85, of Northwood, Iowa, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, in Northwood.

** John R. Montgomery

GREENE — Funeral services for John R. Montgomery, 65, of 306 South First Street, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday (March 8, 1999) at the United Methodist Church, in Greene, with Pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Greene.

Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, in Greene and one hour before services on Monday at the church.

John Ray Montgomery was born December 14, 1933, in Nebraska City, Nebraska, a son of Harold Ray and Lula Marie (Dore) Montgomery; and died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at his home in Greene of cancer.

As a child he and his family lived in various communities in Nebraska, Missouri, and Iowa. As a young man he moved to Rockford where he became employed by the Rockford Brick and Tile Company.

He was united in marriage to Beverly Lyla Losee on August 15, 1952, in Charles City. He was later employed by Henkel Construction Company in Mason City. Since 1959, he has been self employed in Carpentry and Construction work in the Rockford area.

John and Beverly were blessed with five children. On August 15, 1975, they renewed their vows at the Holy Name Catholic Church in Rockford by Father Paul Maguire. In 1984 they moved to Greene. He was a loving father and grandfather.

John was a great outdoor person who enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing. He will be best remembered for his Turtle trapping along lakes, rivers and ponds in North Iowa. John was very proud of the fact that he was a recovered alcoholic, having made the decision on February 1, 1987. He was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous and enjoyed working with the younger members.

He will be sadly missed by his loving wife of forty six years, Beverly, of Greene; three daughters, Patricia Brierly, of Santa Rosa, Calif.; Pamela Engels, of Rudd; Penny and her husband, Rob Usher, of Ionia; two sons and their spouses, Michael and Jenette Montgomery, of Jefferson and Mark and Sheryl Montgomery, of Dumont; 16 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William Harold in infancy; and one granddaughter, Barbara Ann Engels.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the John R. Montgomery Memorial Fund in care of the family.

CLEAR LAKE — Dorothy Jass, 79, died Friday (March 5, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

SOLON — Marie M. Turgasen, 81, of Solon, formerly of Klemme, died Thursday (March 4, 1999) at the Solon Nursing Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. today at the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme, with Pastor Curtis DeVance of the Klemme United Methodist Church officiating.

** Harold L. Santee

NORA SPRINGS — Mr. Harold L. Santee, 94, of 165 S. Hooker, Nora Springs, Iowa, died Friday (March 5, 1999) at his home.

Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1999, at the United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, Iowa, with the Rev. Richard Pippert and the Rev. Curtis DeLong of the Church of Nazarene, Mason City, Iowa officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs, Iowa.

The family suggests memorials to the Harold L. Santee Memorial Fund.

Harold was born Jan. 4, 1905, in Phoenix, Illinois, the son of Henry Martin and Mildred Viola (Fries) Santee. He moved with his family to the Rockwell City, Iowa area where he attended school.

He married Fae Bailey June 29, 1931, in Sac City, Iowa. They farmed in the Humboldt area until 1938. They then moved to rural Nora Springs, Iowa where they continued to farm. In 1947, they moved into Nora Springs. He worked for Percy Construction in Mason City until his retirement in 1959.

Harold enjoyed raising rabbits, gardening, growing flowers, fishing, being around his family and especially his grandchildren.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Nora Springs, Iowa.

Harold is survived by four children, Neal Santee and his wife, Rose, Mason City, Iowa; LaVonne Holmes, Davenport, Iowa; Gerald Santee and his wife, Linda, Nora Springs, Iowa and Gordon Santee and his wife, Yvonne, Rockford, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Irene Kinney, Melbourne, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife in 1991, daughter, Darlene Hofler, in 1979 and nine brothers and sisters.
