** Helen G. Scott

MASON CITY — Helen G. Scott, 85, of 417 N. Van Buren Ave., died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Calvary Alliance Church, 408 N. Delaware Ave., with the Rev. David Biddle officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or Calvary Alliance Church.

Helen G. Scott was born Sept. 2, 1913, in Floyd, the daughter of Charles and Eliza (Bush) Sibert. Helen grew up in the Floyd and Rudd areas and attended county school there also.

She married Ivan D. Scott on June 29, 1931, in Allison. Helen and Ivan lived in Mason City where she took care of many children and enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting and ceramics.

She is survived by her daughter, Karen Reinke, and her husband, Lynn, Geneva; a son-in-law, Robert Knowles, Manly; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Real and her husband, Kevin, Roxanne Knowles, Justine Moore and her husband, Matt, Scott Reinke and his wife, Cindy, Shelly Reinke, Shannon Reinke and his wife, Jamie, and Ryan Reinke; nine great-grandchildren, Jennifer, Stephani and Nichole Real, Emily, Andrew, Nathan and Sammy Moore and Kristy and Kelly Reinke; one sister, Mildred O'Neill, Davenport; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ivan, in 1992; a daughter, Janelle Knowles in 1989; three brothers, Argyl, Keith and Verl Sibert; and three sisters, Ruth Crossman, Dorothy Scott and Ruby Hillertz.

** Peter M. Stumo

NORTHWOOD — Peter M. Stumo, 88, died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer Hernes and Rev. Allan Stoa officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery.

Visitation was held Monday at Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood, and will resume one hour prior to the service today at the church.

Peter M. Stumo was born Feb. 16, 1910, in Brookfield Township, Worth County, the son of Nels and Carrie (Nelson) Stumo. He was baptized and confirmed in Elk Creek Lutheran Church, Kensett, where he was a life-long member.

Peter attended rural schools in Brookfield Township. He was united in marriage to Lillian Johnson on Sept. 16, 1936. They farmed in Brookfield Township, where Peter lived his entire life. Lillian preceded him in death in 1956. Peter entered the Lutheran Retirement Home in January 1996.

He is survived by his children and their spouses, Nelson and Elnora Stumo, Goodell, John and Joan Stumo, Northwood, Judy and Mike Lee, Northwood, Paul Stumo, Clear Lake, and Elizabeth and Stan Reichl, Albert Lea, Minn.; a daughter-in-law, Marie Stumo, Northwood; two sisters, Carma Brunsvold, Manly Care Center, and Therese Havens, Mason City; sister-in-law, Julia Stumo, Northwood; 16 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lillian, his son, Lowell; his brother, Gerhard Stumo; three sisters, Nettie Stumo, Mabel Johnson and Louise Pederson; and one daughter-in-law, Verna Stumo.

Memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood; Northwood Rescue Squad; or the Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

** Philip D. Lunstrum

MASON CITY — Philip D. Lunstrum, 73, of Mason City, died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at his son's home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Rick Eichenlaub of First Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Philip D. Lunstrum was born July 8, 1925, in Forest City, the son of Paul and Genevieve (Larson) Lunstrum. He graduated from Forest City High School in May of 1942.

Philip served in the Armed Guard in the United States Navy from July 7, 1943, until March of 1946.

On Sept. 27, 1946, he was united in marriage to Bonnie R. Buland in Forest City.

He loved hobbies and crafts, being out in nature, hiking, fishing and camping. He was a lapidarist; he enjoyed cutting rocks and making jewelry.

He thought the world of his grandkids.

Philip was the past commander of V.F.W. Post No. 733 and a Sean Squirrel for the Cooties.

Survivors include his mother, Genevieve Lunstrum of Mason City; his wife, Bonnie Lunstrum of Mason City; three children, Tsgt. Lynn A. Hopper of Oklahoma City, Okla., Lori L. Vande Wall and her husband, Kevin, of Altoona and Larry Lunstrum and his wife, Kathy, of Mason City; grandchildren, Jedediah D. and Jeremiah J. Davis of Oklahoma City, Okla., Katie L. and Jared P. Vande Wall of Altoona, Kody and Chance Lunstrum of Mason City, Faith Lunstrum of Bakersfield, Calif., Jordan Lunstrum of Mason City and April and Jasmin Moody of Bakersfield, Calif.; three brothers, Ralph Lunstrum and his wife, Bennie, of Homeland, Calif., Glen Lunstrum and his wife, Betty, of Batavia, Ill., and Stanford Lunstrum and his wife, Virginia, of Verona, Wis.; one sister, Linda Everding and her husband, Richard, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

** Dorothy L. Diebold

CHARLES CITY — Dorothy L. Diebold, 78, of the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home, formerly of 1471 Highway 18, Rudd, died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) at the nursing home following a lengthy illness.

At Dorothy's request, her body was cremated and memorial funeral services will take place at a later date. There will be no visitation. Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Diebold, the former Dorothy Lucille Froid, was born Feb. 4, 1920, in Lyons, Neb., the daughter of Gilbert and Edna (Baker) Froid. She married Joseph Samuel Mazzollo, who preceded her in death. She then married Harry Edward Diebold, who also preceded her in death. For several years, she was a close companion of Raymond Sawyer, who also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Diebold owned and operated several restaurants during her lifetime. She had previously lived in the Chicago area before moving to the Rudd and Charles City areas.

Living family members include two daughters, Laura Gandy of Grand View, Wis., and Diana Giambelluca of Mitchellville; a brother, Franklin Froid of Cleveland, Ohio; a sister, Marian Haag, of Cleveland, Ohio; a special niece whom her parents raised, Pat Froid Wood, of Chicago, Ill.; and several grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, husbands and special friend, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ervin and Milo Froid.

** Harley D. Throne

MASON CITY — Harley D. Throne, 71, of 2310 26th St. S. W., died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Nils C. "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Interment will be in the Kensett Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a Moose Lodge service beginning at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service at the church Wednesday.

Memorials may be directed to the Life Care Center through the Moose Lodge.

Harley was born Dec. 5, 1927, in Worth County, the son of Ove E. and Elise (Olson) Throne. He was baptized at Deer Creek Lutheran Church and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

He attended rural schools in Hanlontown and graduated from Kensett High School in 1946. He spent most of his early years in the northern Iowa and southern Minnesota area.

Harley served in the U. S. Army from 1946 to 1948, stationed at Fort Ord, Calif.

He married Doris Sallee June 11, 1949, in Albert Lea, Minn. They lived on a farm near Kensett, then moved to Albert Lea where Harley worked on a turkey farm. Later they moved to Mason City where Harley worked at Jacob E. Decker and Sons and the Mason City Post Office. Harley retired from the post office in 1985 after 30 years.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he ushered for 11 years. He and Doris faithfully helped the church with the church bulletins. He was a member of the Rockwell American Legion, Albert Lea Eagles Lodge and Mason City Moose Lodge No. 1328, which he served as administrator for many years. He held the offices of Junior Governor and treasurer and was serving as state chairman for Lifecare, where they were well on their way to making the goal they had set, at the time of his death. Harley went through all the chairs of the Legion and of the Moose. He earned his fellowship and received his 100-member pin and was well on his way to signing up 150 members. Harley also enjoyed Taco Days at the Moose Lodge.

Harley is survived by his wife, Doris, of Mason City; a daughter, Terry Throne Riggan, of Marble Rock, and her special friend, Jim Holt; his grandchildren, Stacy Usher and her special friend, Dan Tree, Sheri Hillegas and husband, Ron, Lonnie Rasmus and his wife, Jasmine, Brian Westendorf and his wife, Kelly, Angela Freese and her husband, Ryan, Bob Riggan, and Todd Usher; great-grandchildren, Brandon, Preston, Kendra, Joshua, Trinity, Josh, Holden, Dakota, MaKenzii, Nick, Zach, Caitlyn and one on the way; brothers, LuVerne Throne and his wife, Edith, Raymond Throne and Lloyd Throne and friend, Vi; sisters, Arlene Johnson, Loretta Hertzog and her husband, Bob, and Talora Grosland; sisters-in-law, Anne Throne and Donna Throne; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Vicky Jean Throne; three brothers, Talford, Orville and Rolland in infancy; and a sister, Rosetta.

** Robert D. 'Buck' Suby

FERTILE — Robert D. "Buck" Suby, 74, of Fertile, died Saturday (Jan. 23, 1999) at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fertile Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Roger G. Kampstra officiating. Interment will be in Brush Point Cemetery, Hanlontown, with military rites by Clear Lake American Legion Post No. 4868.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the Church.

Robert D. "Buck" Suby was born Oct. 28, 1924, in Worth County, the son of Henry and Iva (Kirk) Suby. He attended Fertile School and served in the Army from December of 1948 to February of 1950 in Japan. He was a lifelong member of V.F.W. Post No. 4868, Clear Lake.

He was married to Betty Jean Johnson on Sept. 29, 1951, in Mason City. He owned and operated Robert Suby Lime Spreading for many years. He retired from Worth County Road Maintenance in 1987.

He also enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards, backgammon and having coffee at Pronto. He also enjoyed being outdoors and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Betty, of Fertile; and five children: two sons, Steve and his wife, Joyce Suby, of Marion, and Brad and his wife, Nancy Suby, of Fertile, and three daughters, Sheila and her husband, Mark Enderson, of Lake Mills, Brenda and her husband, Bob Jones, of Fertile, and Lisa and her husband, Mike Lacey, of Clear Lake. He also will be missed by his 11 grandchildren, Eric and Mike Suby of Clear Lake, Bob and Travis Enderson of Lake Mills, Stacy and Emily Suby of Fertile, Jessica and Vanessa Jones of Fertile and Tanner, Bryar and Jacob Lacey of Clear Lake; four brothers, Leon, Boyd and Roger, all of Mason City, and Allen, of Ankeny; three sisters, Helen Sparby, of Iowa City, Phyllis Clausen of Mason City and Linda O'Neil of Phoenix, Ariz.; along with many nieces and nephews and four aunts.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents.

** Maxine Nolte

SHEFFIELD — Maxine Nolte, 81, of Sheffield, died Thursday (Jan. 21, 1999) at the Good Samaritan Village, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at Peace Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls, S.D.

Funeral services also will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 8 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Maxine Nolte was born June 19, 1917 in Hampton.

Survivors include one son, Evan, of Sioux Falls, S.D.; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry Lukensmeyer of Hampton.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

** Kathleen Ann Peterson

LAKE MILLS — Kathleen Ann Peterson, 47, of Lake Mills, died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Asbury United Methodist Church, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Jeanne Martin officiating. Interment will be in Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Kathleen Ann Peterson was born July 1, 1951, in Riceville.

Survivors include her sons, John Bodenham of Mount Pleasant and Curt Bodenham of Vermillion, S.D.; and one grandson.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter and her husband.

** William A. Johnson

FOREST CITY — William A. Johnson, 89, of Forest City, died Saturday (Jan. 23, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the United Methodist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home.

William A. Johnson was born July 4, 1909, in Winnebago County.

Survivors include his wife, Marie Johnson of Forest City; two sons, Robert Johnson of Forest City and Gary Johnson of Kissimmee, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

** George 'Jimmy' Wilson

NORA SPRINGS — George "Jimmy" Wilson, 51, of Nora Springs, died Monday (Jan. 25, 1999) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, Nora Springs.

** Patrick Duane Stork

CLEAR LAKE — Patrick Duane Stork, 73, of 711 12th Ave. N., Clear Lake, died Sunday (Jan. 24, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick's Catholic with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating.

Visitation will begin at 6:30 p.m. Friday At Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with a 7 p.m. scriptural wake service and a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.

** Dorothy M. Stephens

CLEAR LAKE — Dorothy M. Stephens, 87, of 715 N. Third St., died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., with Genevieve McGowan officiating. The body was cremated and inurnment will take place in Lincoln Township Cemetery, rural Hanlontown.

Dorothy was born Oct. 27, 1911, in Fertile, the daughter of Elmer and Rena (Fankel) White. She attended school in Fertile to the fourth grade, when the family moved to Clear Lake. After receiving her high school diploma, she took a course in dressmaking, designing and tailoring through correspondence. She opened a shop in her home which she operated for many years.

On Oct. 12, 1942, she married Raymond Stephens in Clear Lake. The couple made their home with Dorothy's mother and cared for her until she died. Raymond Stephens passed away Aug. 27, 1972. No children were born.

Dorothy learned to play piano from her mother at an early age and also studied with teachers.

She is survived by six nieces and nephews, Wyn Clark of Springfield, Va., Sharon O'Neill of Goshen, Ind., Michael Rossiter of Dubuque, Renee' Kapp of Crescent, Ore., Rochell Hanhart of Bath, S.D., and Verde D. O'Neill of Lakeville, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband; and three sisters, Iris Gail White Fessenden, Floy Rachel White O'Neill and Frances Verone White Rossiter.

** Gerald Stoltz

CLEAR LAKE — Gerald Stoltz, 67, of Columbus Ohio, formerly of Clear Lake, Iowa, died Friday (Jan. 22, 1999) at the Beverly Health and Rehabilitation Center in Columbus.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery with military honors by the Clear Lake V.F.W.

A service was held Monday at Evans Funeral Home, Columbus, Ohio.

Gerald was a retired major and navigator, a United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, member of Bexley Post No. 430 American Legion, former quartermaster of V.F.W. Whitehall Post No. 8794 and a member of Whitehall Moose Lodge No. 1245.

He is survived by daughters, Janet Ponthieux of Gilbert, Ariz., and Karen Powell of Wright Wood, Calif.; grandsons, Nicholas Ponthieux and Christopher Powell; and a sister, Verlyn Tiggemann of Cass Lake, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Agnes Stoltz; and a sister, Jeanne Crossan.
