ROCKWELL — Paul F. Meyer, 84, of 5756 Thrush Ave., died Tuesday (Jan. 19, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Ronald Bolinger officiating. Interment will be at the Rockwell Cemetery.

Paul was born one of two sons to George and Lydia (Bokmeyer) Meyer in Sheffield. He was baptized on Oct. 4, 1914, and confirmed on Aug. 28, 1927, in Sheffield. He graduated from the Sheffield High School in 1932.

Paul was united in marriage to Marie Liekweg on Nov. 15, 1936, at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Sheffield. To this marriage were born three sons. They lived in Sheffield for one year and then moved to a farm near Rockwell in 1938, where he continued his grain and livestock operations.

Paul was very active at St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church, spending 40 years teaching Sunday School children until he was 80 years old. He also was the superintendent for many years. His love of teaching children was a replacement for being unable to attend college and being a public school teacher. Paul shared his life with others, serving on the church board, with the Brotherhood men's group, serving 10 years as the chairman of the Farmers Coop Society board of Rockwell, as a current member of the Farm Bureau, and on the nursing home board for 18 years.

Paul was an exceptional light bulb salesman, winning first in sales for several years at the Rockwell Lion's club, of which he was a charter member. He also served on the Cerro Gordo County School Board. He spent time with, and had a special place in his heart for, his grand and great-grandchildren, even taking the plunge at teaching them how to drive. His interest in reading leaned toward history and religious topics, and his hobby other than work was his notable 1972 green Buick. His twinkling eye as he shared stories with his friends and family will long be remembered. His presence was welcome at the many community social events and gatherings that he and Marie attended.

Those thankful to share Paul's life include his wife of 62 years, Marie; his three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Sharon Meyer, Mason City, Kenneth and Linda Meyer, Rockwell, and Donald and Sandi Meyer, Clive; nine grandchildren, Kim Platts, Susan, Philip and Penny Meyer, Wendy and her husband, Doug Jorgensen, Schelly Meyer, David Meyer and his fiancee, Julie Quam, Melissa and her husband, Dave Slocum, and James Meyer and his fiancee, Jodi Stouffer; five great-grandchildren, Kari Platts, the twins, Melissa and Michael Piper, Lisa and Anne Jorgensen; and one brother, Marvin Meyer and his wife, Anna Mae, Sheffield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one granddaughter, Lisa Meyer.
