** Keith Charles Hitchcock

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. — Keith Charles Hitchcock, 56, died Sept. 19, 1998 in Federal Way, Wash.

Keith was born Feb. 12, 1942, in Thief River Falls, Minn. He lived in Lake Mills for many years and worked at Deluxe Products as a tool and die maker before moving to Washington where he made his home for 23 years. He attended school in Waterloo, Iowa.

He loved sports, especially football, which was his favorite past time.

He will be deeply missed by all of his children and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra Jean Hitchcock, of Federal Way, Wash.; two sons, Tim Hitchcock and Tom Hitchcock, both of Mason City; seven daughters, Tina Prince, of Kensett; Diane Hitchcock, of Hanlontown; Yvonne Arrick, of Council Bluffs; Connie Bitker, of Mason City; Charlene Starr, of Rockwell; Rachel Hitchcock, of Federal Way, Wash.; and Donna Brooks, of Auborn, Wash.; two sisters, Phylis Carr, of Vermont; and Patty Tepfer, of Texas; five brothers, Barney, of Jackson, Minn., Donald, of Crookston, Minn., Paul, of Spokane, Wash.; Bob, of Tacoma, Wash.; and Jimmy, of Cedar Falls; 24 grandchildren, Andrew, Dennise, Joe, Amanda, Brittany, Curtis, Kim, Kathy, Dougie, Mellissa, Madison, MacKenzie, Cody, Jacob, Derek, Troy, Montie, Daniell, Tony, Jim, Sharrie, Mariah, Hayley, and Isiah.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Eva Mary Yeoman

CORWITH — Eva Mary Yeoman, 102, of Corwith, died Thursday (Sept. 24, 1998) at the Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Grace Baptist Church, Corwith, with the Rev. Art Woodward officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith.

Eva Mary Yeoman was born on April 14, 1896, near Corwith.

Survivors include her children, Willard "Bud" Dunfee, of Corwith; Glenice Olson, of Waterloo; and Donald Dunfee, of Waterloo; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, her second husband, one daughter, one son, one granddaughter, and two brothers.

CLARION — Lewllien W. Sellers, 86, of Clarion, died Thursday (Sept. 24, 1998) at the Clarion Health Care Center, Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church, Clarion. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Willim Funeral Home, Clarion, where other arrangements are incomplete.

CLEAR LAKE — Selma Lowmen, 103, of Clear Lake, died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake.

MASON CITY — Ida L. Tyler, 97, of 222 S. Pierce Ave., died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at the Sunrise Health Care Center.

** Mary Krebsbach

SWEA CITY — Funeral services for Mary Krebsbach, 85, of the rural Swea City and Ledyard area will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, in Ledyard, with Father Richard Loomis officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Ledyard.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Mary was born on Dec. 1, 1912, at Oregon, Ill, the daughter of Thomas and Hannah (McEnery) Lynch and died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

Mary came to the Gerled area as a young girl. She was a graduate of the Ledyard High School in 1930. Mary received her teaching degree from Drake University and taught school in Kossuth County.

Mary was married to Jack Krebsbach on June 1, 1935 at Ledyard. They farmed in the Swea City and Ledyard area. Jack died in 1982. Mary lived on the farm until her illness this past spring.

Mary is survived by one daughter, Delores Kahler and her husband, Richard, of Britt; three sons, Maurice Krebsbach and his wife, Virginia, of Algona; Donald Krebsbach, of Cedar Rapids; and Patrick Krebsbach and his wife, Pam, of rural Swea City; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Jack and Dave Lynch; and a sister, Margaret Palmer.

** Edith Martin

HAMPTON — Edith Martin, 92, died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hampton.

Edith Martin was born Nov. 23, 1905, in Floyd County.

Survivors include three sons, Albert F. Martin of St. Paul, Minn., Arland E. Martin of Ames, and Arnold H. Martin of Clouis, Calif.; a brother, Andrew Zimmerman of Lake Placid, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, one daughter, one brother, and one sister.

** Clarence F. Shaffer

CHARLES CITY — Clarence F. Shaffer, 92, died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Debra Lincoln and the Rev. J. Larry Valery officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 7 to 9 p.m., and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Memorials may be directed to Trinity United Methodist Church or the American Heart Association.

Clarence Frederick Shaffer was born March 2, 1906, in Rock Island County, Ill.

Survivors include his wife, Ardyce of Charles City; a daughter, Donna Walker of Denison; a son, Gary Shaffer of Jesup; four grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

** F.E. 'John' Hensley

MASON CITY — F.E. "John" Hensley, 80, of 915 16th St. N.E., died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill and Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with full military rites at the graveside provided by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., where a scripture wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Memorials may be given to the F.E. "John" Hensley Memorial Fund.

F.E. "John" Hensley was born Aug. 7, 1918, in Mason City, the son of Ross L. and Anna (Conley) Hensley. John attended Mason City schools and then graduated from Marshalltown High School in 1936. John served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a sergeant. John married Helen Kasik on Jan. 6, 1942, in Mason City. John worked for the Mason City Police Department for 15 years, and then with the State Bureau of Correctional Services as a parole agent until he retired in 1982. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the V.F.W.

Survivors include a son, Stephen Hensley and his wife, Dawn, of Mason City; two granddaughters, Courtney and Jennifer Hensley; and a cousin, Richard Conley of Minneapolis, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen, in 1997; and one sister, Mary in infancy.

** Stanley Borneman

DUMONT — Stanley Borneman, 51, died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl Gearhart officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Reformed Church Cemetery, rural Ackley.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Stanley Borneman was born April 30, 1947, in Hampton.

Survivors include his son, Travis Borneman of Mason City; daughters, Heather Borneman of Mason City, and Brooke Borneman of Hampton; a sister, Diane Krukow of Marshalltown; a step-sister, Connie Freese of Denver, Colo.; and one grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a step-brother; and two step-mothers.

** Ida L. Tyler

MASON CITY — Ida L. Tyler, 97, of 222 S. Pierce Ave., died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at Sunrise Healthcare Center.

Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery with the Rev. Randy Nielsen officiating.

Ida Tyler was born Sept. 2, 1901, the daughter of Henry F. and Minnie L. (Fisher) Knoke in Garner. Ida attended school in Garner. She then moved to Mason City for five years, working as a waitress. She married Earl C. Tyler on March 21, 1944, in Des Moines, and while in Des Moines she worked as a waitress, a homemaker, and worked with her husband, Earl, in his business. Ida was in Des Moines 38 years. She moved back to Mason City in 1962, after her husband died. After returning to Mason City, Ida was very active in the Senior Citizens Center, Volunteer Club, and a former member of the Moose Lodge. Ida enjoyed playing cards and dancing at the Senior Citizens Club.

Survivors include her nephews, LuVerne Knoke of Mason City, Eldo Knoke of Greenville, S.C., and Lester Knoke of Apple Valley, Minn.; step-daughter, Anna Rose Hull of Des Moines; several step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, and step-great-great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Letha Carver of Mason City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband in 1958; brothers, Louis, Otto and Emil; one step-daughter; and one step-son.

** Patricia Ann Kiser

MUSCATINE — Patricia Ann Kiser, 60, of 1318 Park Dr., died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at the Muscatine General Hospital after a courageous battle against cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mathias Church, 215 W. Eighth St., with the Rev. John Gallager officiating. Burial will be in St. Mark Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home, with a vigil service following at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Iowa.

Patricia was born on Sept. 29, 1937, in Muscatine, the daughter of Leonard F. and Sylvia E. Bartelt Maher. She married Ronald Kiser on July 1, 1961, in Muscatine.

She was a member of the St. Mathias Church. She taught at Keswick, Wilton, McKinley and St. Mathias grade schools. She was most recently a Mentor Advocate at Muscatine High School.

Survivors include her husband, Ronald, of Muscatine; her children, Christopher Kiser and his wife, Jeanette, of Fort Collins, Colo., Elizabeth Shapiro and her husband, Michael, of Evanston, Ill., Jonathan Kiser of Muscatine, and Andrew Kiser of Decorah; her father, Leonard F. Maher of Muscatine; one sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. R.L. (Kathleen) Casini; one nephew, Jason Casini of Des Moines; and one niece, Susan Casini of Muscatine.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard J. Maher in infancy; and her mother, Sylvia Maher on June 22, 1998.

** Lewllien Warren 'Bob' Sellers

CLARION — Lewllien Warren "Bob" Sellers, 86, died Thursday (Sept. 24, 1998) at the Clarion Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Lutheran Church with the Rev. Gary Boen officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery.

Lewllien Warren "Bob" Sellers was born July 17, 1912, in Wall Lake Township in Wright County.

Survivors include his wife, Alvina; a daughter, Sandra Sellers Hanson of Brooklyn, N.Y.; a son, James of Clarion; and two grandsons.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one granddaughter.

LUVERNE — Wilma Luella Ruberg, 90, died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) at Trinity Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge.

Wilma Luella Ruberg was born Sept. 24, 1908, on a farm near LuVerne.

Survivors include a daughter, Alicia Long of Clarion; a son, Warren Ruberg of Thor; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one step-great-grandchild; three great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin (Bud) Kubly of LuVerne; and one sister, Lucille Smith of LuVerne.

Grace Elizabeth Palmer Reams was born July 20, 1923, near Dougherty.

GREENE — Vera L. Wedeking, 86, died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at the Allison Care Center, Allison.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Clarksville, with the Rev. David Walters officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery, Clarksville.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday at Reid's Funeral Chapel, where there will be a scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Vera L. Wessel Wedeking was born July 2, 1912, in rural Edgewood in Clayton County.

** Linda Jeanette Sheehan

BELMOND — Linda Jeanette (Jurgens) Sheehan, 50, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Reformed Church with the Rev. Melvin Voss and the Rev. Herman Gruis, officiating. Interment will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday.

Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may direct them to the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond.

Linda Jeanette (Jurgens) Sheehan, the daughter of Lloyd and Frieda (Wiemann) Jurgens was born Jan. 26, 1948, at Hampton. She was united in marriage to Nick Sheehan on Aug. 26, 1966.

Linda enjoyed her work at the Belmond Community Hospital where she served 23 years, with many of those years as dietary manager. She was a faithful member of the Bethany Reformed Church and a member of the RCWM, and loved to play the piano and sing. Linda especially enjoyed her family, her church, hospital service and her many friends.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Nick, of Belmond; sons Chris and Matt Sheehan of Belmond; daughter, Melissa Sheehan of San Antonio, Texas; her mother, Frieda Jurgens of Belmond; brothers, Lynn Jurgens and his wife, Becky, of Forest City, and Dennis Jurgens and his wife, Jane, of Winterset; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her father, Lloyd Jurgens, and her sister, Beverly.

CLEAR LAKE — Mrs. C.O. (Selma) Lomen, 103, died Friday (Sept. 25, 1998) of congestive heart failure at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church, where Selma was a member since moving to Clear Lake in 1926. The Rev. Dean Hess will officiate. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Family members will be present for visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.

Selma was born Aug. 17, 1895, to Ingvald and Hilda (Mortenson) Herrigstad, Norwegian immigrants, at Melvin, Polk County, Minn. She was married to Carl Oscar Lomen in Bode on June 14, 1916. She had three children: Gladys (Mrs. Marvin Rovang), Helen (Mrs. Soren Olson), and Donald.

Selma had been active in her church, having been president of the Ladies Aid (now WELCA), church circle organizer and officer, Sunday school teacher, one of the first deaconesses, and a quilter for many years.

In the early 1930s, Selma helped to organize the Music Mothers Club and was its second president. She sewed band and glee club uniforms for the high school music groups and the formals for the singers of the Hamilton Business School chorus. During World War II, she was a local Red Cross volunteer.

She had been active in the former Civic League, Federated Women's Club, WCTU, Christian Women, Executives Club, Travelers Club, Community Concerts of Mason City and Clear Lake, and Clear Lake Senior Citizens. Selma was a member of the Library Reading Club and the Liberty Church Circle.

Selma enjoyed traveling and attended several national and regional church conventions. She also went on many chartered bus trips throughout North America. One time she went with the Zion Youth to Holden Village in Washington state on a school bus, sleeping in church basements on the way. At the age of 75, she went with her daughter, Gladys, on a Waldorf College alumni/friends trip to Europe. Walking was one of her many joys, including at least three hikes around Clear Lake, even in her 80s.

Up until November 1989, Selma lived in her own home at 113 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. At that time she moved to the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake. There, she loved to visit with people and often sang her favorite Gospel hymns going down the hallways. Corresponding with her many family members and friends, having daily devotions and prayers, reminiscing, reading romance novels and Scandinavian and Christian literature occupied much of her time, besides participating in activities at the center. On occasion she had seen visions of heaven and angels.

Selma was preceded in death by her parents, all four of her brothers and four sisters, her husband, Oscar Lomen, in April 1960, who had been the auditor for Woodford Wheeler Lumber Company, and her daughter, Gladys (Mrs. Marvin Rovang of Osage) in June 1974.

Survivors include her daughter, Helen and her husband, Soren Olson, of Horseshoe Bend, Ark.; her son, Donald and his wife, Patricia, of Des Moines and Bayside, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Julie (Rovang) and her husband, the Rev. Donald Burton, of Racine, Wis., David Rovang and his wife, Karen, of Forest Lake, Minn., Phillip Rovang and his wife, Laura, of Westminster, Md., Linda (Mari Rovang) and her husband, Howard Mathison, of Warwick, Mass., Audrey (Olson) and her husband, Jack Knight, of Boone, Susan (Olson) and her husband, David Knippel, of Ames, Kari (Lomen) and her husband, Rod Carlson, of rural Klemme, the Rev. Steven Lomen and his wife, Karen Webb, of Minneapolis, and David Lomen of Des Moines. There are also 25 great-grandchildren, and 20 great-great-grandchildren. Other survivors include one sister-in-law, Mrs. Willie (Cora) Herrigstad of Oak Harbor, Wash., several nieces and nephews and their offspring, and countless friends.

** Elmer Starr

MASON CITY — Elmer Starr, 91, of 1744 Cerro Gordo Way, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ.

Grace Elizabeth Palmer was born July 20, 1923, near Dougherty, the only daughter of Walster and Nina (Parcher) Palmer, and died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

She received her education at the Scott Township Schools. For several years she was employed as a waitress and cook in restaurants in Marble Rock. She was united in marriage to Edward Lewis Reams on April 1, 1951.

Grace was very family oriented and one who enjoyed visiting with her friends and going out to eat or play cards. Her genuine warmth and friendliness will always be remembered by those who knew her. She had a passion for collecting salt and pepper shakers, various knickknacks, and putting together jigsaw puzzles.

Living family members include two daughters and their spouses, Sandy and Randy Schweizer of Marble Rock, and Nancy and Stan Schweizer of Rudd; one son, Lyle Palmer of Hampton, and daughter-in-law, Darlene Palmer of Nora Springs; eight grandchildren, Travis, Brad, Justin, Kurt and Tyler Schweizer, Brian Palmer, Rick and his wife, Billie Jo Palmer, and Lyle Palmer Jr.; and five great-grandchildren, Taylor Gruis, Nick Schweizer, Emily, Eric and Shaleigh Madison Palmer.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on June 18, 1988; and granddaughter, Kristen Elizabeth Schweizer on July 20, 1983.

Vera L. Wessel was born July 2, 1912, in rural Edgewood, Clayton County, the daughter of Ben and Anna (Von Talgue) Wessel, and died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at the Allison Care Center, Allison.

She received her education in the rural Clayton County Schools, and later worked for Mays Drug Store in Charles City until her marriage to Harvey L. Wedeking on Jan. 4, 1952, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They made their home on the family farm where she helped care for his parents until their deaths.

Mr. and Mrs. Wedeking farmed in Dayton Township until their retirement in 1975, when they moved to an acreage near Camp Comfort, where they lived until December, 1993, when they moved into Greene. Vera was a housekeeper for families in the Greene area for several years. Following the death of her husband on May 8, 1994, she entered the Allison Care Center.

Vera had a great love for her grandchildren and attended many of their school activities. She and Harvey enjoyed going on short trips. Vera will be remembered for her love of cooking and baking raisin creme pie and special cookies made by the dozens.

She was a member of Immanuel United Church of Christ in Clarksville.

Living family members include two daughters, Mary K. and her husband, Gale Brinkman, of Greene, and Gloria and her husband, Harold Aulwes, of Garber; a son, Dennis Wedeking and his wife, Jean Ann of Greene; 10 grandchildren, Erin, John, Ryan, Lucas, Steve, Jim, Bill, Marsha, Debbie and Sue; and two sisters, Laura Heddens of Cedar Falls, and Edna Regel of New Hampton.

Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 99-11th St. S., Northwood and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Steven Lee Julson was born on Oct. 15, 1966, in Mason City, the son of Keith and Shirleen (Knutson) Julson. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood.

He attended and received his education in the Northwood-Kensett Community School system, graduating from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1985. After graduating from high school, he attended and graduated from North Iowa Area Community College in Mason City in 1985 with an AA Degree in business.

He was united in marriage to Kimberly Moretz on Sept. 16, 1989 at the First Lutheran Church, in Northwood. After completing his schooling he worked at Carroll George, Inc. in Northwood, for a short time. He also worked for American Railroad Builders in Northwood, as a machine operator, Orkin Pest Control in Mason City, and until the time of his death, he worked for the Dakota-Minnesota-Eastern Railroad out of Waseca, Minn. on the tracks.

He enjoyed playing Saga, Nintendo and watching sports, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and children.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and the Bowling Association. He also coached Little League Baseball and the Mat Rats Children’s Wrestling.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kimberly Julson, of Northwood; three children, Tyler, Hannah and Hunter Julson, of Northwood; his mother and father, Shirleen and Keith Julson, of Northwood; grandmother, Martha Knutson, of Lake Mills; grandmother, Arlene Tenold, of Northwood; his sisters and brothers, Wendy Davis and her husband, Richard, of Northwood; Dan Julson, of Northwood; and Kathy Eilertson and her husband, Gene, of Northwood; mother and father-in-law, Joanne and Don Moretz, of Northwood; two brothers-in-law, Jeff Moretz, of Northwood and Brian Moretz, of Ankeny; two nephews, Richie David, of Northwood and Levi Eilertson, of Northwood; as well as other relatives and friends.

Steven was a devoted husband, father and family man, and will be sadly missed.

The family of Mabel Susan Molsberry has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Michael’s Catholic Church, in Plymouth or to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Mabel Susan Molsberry was born on Oct. 9, 1906, in Graettinger, the daughter of George and Elizabeth (Littig) Bosold.

She attended and received her education in the Emmetsburg Catholic School system and graduated from Emmetsburg Catholic High School. She also attended and graduated in 1929, from Mercy School of Nursing, in Mason City.

She was united in marriage to Marcel "Pete" Lloyd Molsberry on July 16, 1930, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

After their marriage, together they farmed north of Plymouth until moving to Plymouth in 1978. They continued to live in Plymouth until moving to the Willows in Mason City in 1996, and then lived at Willows Pointe for the last couple of months.

She enjoyed gardening, was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and was a very devoted wife, mother, and grandmother and always made sure that her children made it to their activities while growing up.

She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Plymouth, was very active in the church guild, member of the American Council of Catholic Women, Plymouth Senior Citizens Center in Plymouth, and was a member of the Plymouth Senior Birthday Club.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Marcel "Pete" Molsberry, of Mason City; three children, Mary Borchardt, of Alexandria, Minn., Jeanne Kelsh and her husband, Tom, of Naperville, Ill., and John Molsberry and his wife, Bonnie, of Kirkland, Wash.; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Bertha Simmons, of the Humboldt Care Center, in Humboldt; and Helen Murphy, of Emmetsburg; as well as other relatives and friends.

Francis R. "Frank" Chlupach was born Feb. 5, 1923, at Manly, the son of Vern and Laura (Hall) Chlupach. He attended Manly High School and graduated in 1941.

He served in the U.S. Army in World War II as a platoon sergeant with the 21st Infantry, serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations and the Philippines. He was honorably discharged at Fort Sheridan, Ill. on Nov. 30, 1946.

He was united in marriage to Carol Pfaltgraff in Manly on July 9, 1947.

Francis was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railroad for 36 years as a brakeman and then as a conductor, retiring in 1982.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing, sports and traveling. Volunteering for the Hawkeye Food Bank was a rewarding time for him.

Francis was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church for 51 years, a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wards, Post #733, Mason City. He was a member of the Narve RR and UTU.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Chlupach, of Mason City; one son, Robert Chlupach and his wife, Robin, of Willow, Alaska; one granddaughter, Melissa Chlupach, of Moscow, Idaho; one brother, Gerald S. Chlupach and his wife, Gayle, of Panora; several nieces and nephews; and two uncles, Frank Hall, of Mason City; and Floyd Hall, of Northwood.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Chlupach; and one sister, Dorothy Balek.

** Elmer E. Starr

MASON CITY — Elmer E. Starr, 91, of 1744 Cerro Gordo Way, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Richard Scheerer officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Hospice of North Iowa or donor’s choice in his memory.

Elmer was born April 21, 1907, in Renwick, the son of William and Aletha Starr. He graduated from Vernon Consolidated School and Des Moines University, Des Moines, in 1928.

Elmer married Esther Idema, on Dec. 27, 1939. He taught and coached at Ottosen, Gilmore City, Emmetsburg, Estherville and moved to Mason City in the fall of 1946.

He coached basketball for four years and baseball for 26 years. His baseball teams won three state tournaments while his American Legion Junior baseball teams won two state tournaments. Elmer retired in 1972.

After Elmer’s retirement, he and Esther moved to Big Fork, Minn., where they lived for 17 years, returning to Mason City in 1989.

Elmer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II for three years as an enlisted man at Lambert Field in St. Louis and as Lt. Jr. Grade officer for a Navy gun crew on board a Liberty ship on the Pacific til his discharge in 1946.

Elmer was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, past-president of the Iowa High School Baseball Association, past-president of American Legion Post 101, the 40 and 8, V.F.W., Elks Lodge, former baseball coach of the year and a member of the Iowa High School Athletic Association Officials Hall of Fame.

Elmer was a great sports fan, loved to fish and hunt pheasants, garden and read sports books and non-fiction.

Elmer is survived by his wife, Esther, of Mason City; grandsons, Travis Starr and his wife, Brandy, of Mason City, and Casey Starr, of Mason City; great-grandson, Matthew Starr, of Mason City; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Starr, of Mason City.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; two brothers; and son, David, in 1995.

HAMPTON — Cory Jacob Robertson, 13, of Hampton, died Saturday (Sept. 26, 1998) at St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Gayle Jean Evans was born on Nov. 14, 1945, in Des Moines, daughter of Wayne L. and Nathalie Jean (Freeman) Boatwright. She married Donald D. Evans on April 8, 1967, in Des Moines.

Gayle grew up in Des Moines and graduated from North High School in 1963. She attended Grandview College in Des Moines and later graduated from North Iowa Area Community College, Mason City, and then attended Buena Vista College, majoring in finance.

For the past 20 years, she served as manager and CEO of Mercy Family Credit Union, Mason City. Nine years ago, she achieved the Certified Credit Union Executive status and this year she received the State Heritage Award.

Gayle was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She enjoyed reading, playing tennis, skiing and camping. She loved the change of seasons.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the International Certified Credit Executive Association. She was past president of North Iowa Chapter of Credit Unions and was a member of the State Board of Directors of Iowa Credit Union League.

Survivors include her husband, Donald D. Evans, of Mason City; three children, April C. Goldsmith, of Klemme, Donald D. Evans II, of Humboldt; and Christopher E. Evans, of Waterloo; five grandchildren, David Olin, Hunter Ryan, and Rachael Nathalie Goldsmith, all of Klemme; Kendall Elizabeth Evans, of Humboldt, and William Dean Evans, of Waterloo; six brothers and sisters, Christine B. Halsten, of Urbandale; Nicholas W. Boatwright, Wayne A. Boatwright, Mark M. Boatwright, Alice M. Bossuet and Theresa M. Madonia, all of Des Moines; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Stephen L. Boatwright.

MASON CITY — Michelle J. (Waage) Gilmore, 37, of 1121 16th St. N.E., died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, after an extra-ordinary battle with cancer.

A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., with the Rev. Kathy Graves, pastor with Hospice of North Iowa, and the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and will continue until time of services on Thursday.

Memorials may be made to the Michelle J. Gilmore Memorial Fund for the purchase of a headstone at the cemetery.

Michelle was born March 3, 1961 in Marshalltown. She attended grade school in Mason City and then graduated from Forest City High School in 1979.

She married Randy Funk in June 1979. Although, later divorced, they maintained a lasting friendship. Michelle moved to Geneva, Ill., and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the early ’90s.

While in Illinois, Michelle found the love and support of many friends. Despite her strong will, Michelle’s health did continue to decline. In 1995, she came home to Iowa and found love and support from many people especially from her most significant other, Pete Paulsen, and lifelong friend, Lori Slater.

Many special thanks to all of those involved with Michelle’s care, especially Ann Lukensmeier, Barb Yankey, Marilyn Engrebretson, Dr. Walter Bate, Dr. Mark Johnson, and all the wonderful caring people at Hospice.

Michelle is survived by and will be sadly missed by those who knew and loved her best. Her courage and inspiration touched us all.

** Douglas C. Voortmann

BUFFALO CENTER — Douglas C. Voortmann, 32, of Buffalo Center, died Monday (Sept. 28, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial will be in the Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, and one hour before services on Thursday.

Douglas Clarence Voortmann was born Aug. 26, 1966, at Buffalo Center.

Survivors include his wife, Lynnae and three children, Desirrae, Dylan and Danica, all of Buffalo Center; his parents, Clarence and Mary Ann Voortmann, of Buffalo Center; one brother, David Voortmann, of Mason City; and one grandmother, Martha Voortmann, of Buffalo Center.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, and maternal grandparents.

** Julius Stork

BANCROFT — Julius Stork, 87, of Bancroft, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the St. John Catholic Church, Bancroft. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, with a flag presentation by the Bancroft American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Julius was born Oct. 13, 1910, at Bancroft.

Survivors include two brothers, Frank Stork, of Bancroft, and Dr. Joseph Stork, of Waukee.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

** Grace Weissenbuehler

CHARLES CITY — Grace Weissenbuehler, 92, formerly of Charles City, died Sunday (Sept. 27, 1998) near Lansing, Mich.

Graveside committal services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, 1998, at the Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Grace was born June 26, 1906 in Rockwell City.

Survivors include one daughter, Donna Lee Byer, of Cadillac, Mich.; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband.
