CLEAR LAKE — Effie W. Wood, 98, of Clear Lake, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

** Lillie C. Mostrom

MASON CITY — Lillie C. Mostrom, 91, of Mason City, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

** Ruby Ester Weida

RICEVILLE — Ruby Ester Weida, 73, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, Riceville, with the Rev. Herschel Hawf officiating. Interment will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Lindstrom Funeral Home.

Ruby Ester Weida was born Oct. 5, 1924, in Medina, N.D.

Survivors include three daughters, Karen Praska, of Charles City; Kathy Panovec, of Des Moines; and Karolyn Huisman, of Osage; four sons, Jerome, of Traer; Johnny, of Kewanee, Ill.; Charles, of Riceville; and Tommy of Traer; 35 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchldren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.

** Irene B. Knudtson

JOICE — Irene B. Knudtson, 78, of Joice, died Sunday (Aug. 30, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Bill Peters officiating. Interment will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Irene B. Knudtson was born July 6, 1920 at Edgeley, N.D.

Survivors include her husband, Charles B. Knudtson, of Joice; two sons, Steven Knudtson, of Forest City; and Dennis Knudtson, of Andover, Minn.; one daughter, Carolynn Corth, of Forest City; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Clarence Carow, of Edgeley, N.D., and Ray Carow, of LaMoure, N.D.; two sisters, Lucille Opdahl, of Emmons, Minn.; and Grace Rains, of Bloomington, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister.

** Wayne C. Schoenwetter

HAYFIELD, Minn. — Wayne C. Schoenwetter, 72 died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at his rural home near Hayfield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Hayfield. Burial will be in the Hayfield Cemetery.

Wayne C. Schoenwetter was born Aug. 13, 1926, the son of Edward and Nora Schoenwetter, in Twin Lake Township, Hancock County.

** Laura M. Daleske

CLEAR LAKE — Laura M. Daleske, 64, of Renton, Wash., formerly of Clear Lake, died Monday, June 22, 1998, at the Renton Hills Care Center, Renton, Wash., of Cancer.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Clear Lake Cemetery, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating.

The family suggests memorials in memory of Laura M. Daleske.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of local arrangements.

Laura was born Dec. 26, 1933, in Renton, Wash., the daughter of Louis A. and Anne (Burnert) Sculati. She graduated from Renton High School in 1952. Laura served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Laura married Merle H. Daleske on June 11, 1954, at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. They moved to Clear Lake in 1966. Following Merle’s death Sept. 1, 1984, Laura returned to Renton. She worked as a nurse’s aide at several nursing homes in the Renton area, until ill health led to her retirement in 1994.

Laura is survived by six children, Donald Daleske and his wife, Becky, of Fort Morgan, Colo.; Michael Daleske and his wife, Josie, of Granite Falls, Wash.; Carole Lindecrantz and her husband, Carl, of Waterloo; Gary Daleske, of Renton, Wash.; Robert Daleske and his wife, Sarah, of Evansdale; and J. James Daleske, of Renton, Wash.; three grandchildren, Robert D. Daleske, Christopher P. Daleske and Casey J. Lindecrantz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one infant.

** Vance Holland

FOREST CITY — Vance Holland, 45, of Forest City, died Sunday (Aug. 30, 1998) in an automobile accident west of Forest City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, with the Rev. George Kalb officiating. Burial will be in the Madison Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Vance Holland was born Aug. 27, 1953 in Forest City.

Survivors include three daughters, Tina Lohman, of Nevada; Shelly Skjeie, of Forest City, and Ashley Holland, of Longmont, Colo.; three grandchildren; his father, Bob Holland, of Forest City; his mother, Zudavee Holland, of Forest City; two sisters, Pam Maurer, of Buffalo Center and Phyllis Holland, of St. Louis; and one brother, Anthony Holland, of Forest City.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; his maternal grandparents; and one son in infancy.

** Hannah Michelle Stafford

CHANHASSEN, Minn. — Hannah Michelle Stafford, infant daughter of John and Connie Stafford, of Chanhassen, was still born Thursday (Aug. 27, 1998) at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital, Minneapolis.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. today at St. Hubert Catholic Church in Chanhassen, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 9 until 10 a.m. today at the church.

Hannah is survived by her parents, John H. Stafford and Connie Palenyk Stafford, of Chanhassen, Minn.; sister, Sarah Elizabeth; and brother, John Tyler; maternal grandmother, Helen M. Palenyk, of Mason City; paternal grandparents, William and Winnifred Stafford, of Clearwater, Fla.; uncles, Dr. William Stafford and his wife, Connie, of Clearwater, Fla.; Michael Stafford and his wife, Mary, of Boise, Idaho; aunts, Mary Stafford Strickman and her husband, Stanley, of Albuquerque, N.M.; and Patty Paul and her husband, Gregory, of Mason City; cousins, Allison and Thomas Stafford, Clearwater, Fla.; Emily Stafford, of Boise, Idaho; and Jason and Joshua Paul, of Mason City.

** Florence Margaret Schulz

HAMPTON — Florence Margaret Schulz, 76, died Saturday (Aug. 29, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Latimer, with the Rev. Jeff Long officiating. Burial will take place in Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation was held on Monday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Florence Margaret Schulz was born July 3, 1922, in Geneva.

She is survived by five sisters, Elizabeth Spieker, Ackley, Henrietta Miller, Iowa Falls, Christine Schurman, Franklin, Neb., Berdean See, Independence, and Marian Witte, Cedar Falls, and three brothers, Clarence Toomsen, Iowa Falls, John Toomsen, Geneva, and Norman Toomsen, Iowa Falls.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

** Russell Seidel

NORFOLK, Neb. — Funeral services for Russell D. Seidel, 65, of Norfolk, Neb. and Mesa, Ariz., were held Thursday, Aug. 27, 1998, at the First United Methodist Church, in Norfolk, Neb., with the Rev. Dan Flanagan officiating. The body was cremated. The presentation of the flag was conducted by the American Legion Post 16 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Winter-Munson Post 1644, of Norfolk.

The Howser-Fillmer Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

He died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1998, at his home.

The son of Charles and Verneille (Walters) Seidel was born June 10, 1933, at Mason City, Iowa. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1951 and attended college in Mason City.

He entered the U.S. Navy in January of 1952 and was discharged in December of 1955.

He was an executive at the Chamber of Commerce in several places, moving to Norfolk in January of 1967 to serve as the executive secretary of the Norfolk Chamber of Commerce.

He married Joyce "J.J." Calhoon on Jan. 19, 1973, at Yankton, S.D.

He began working for the 3-M Company in Norfolk in March of 1974. The couple moved to St. Paul, Minn., in 1976, where he was working at the corporate headquarters for 3-M. They moved to Austin, Texas, in 1987 and he retired from 3-M on July 1, 1993.The couple then moved back to Norfolk.

Mr. Seidel was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion of Norfolk, the Elks Lodge, and Eldorado Hills Golf Course.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce "J.J." Seidel; son and spouse, Mark and Mary Ann, of Mason City; daughter and spouse, Tamara and Kevin Watson, of Jackson, Wyo.; stepchildren, Debbie Calhoon, of Hudson, Wis.; Doug and wife, Cinda Calhoon; Bill Calhoon and fiancee, Janet; and Kevin Calhoon, all of Norfolk; his mother, of Norfolk; a brother, Stan, of Apache Junction, Ariz.; one grandchild; and six stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother.

Memorials should be directed to hospice.

** Anne Blanche Billy

RICEVILLE — Anne Blanche Billy, 81, of Riceville, died Sunday (Aug. 29, 1998) at the Riceville Community Rest Home.

Her body was deeded to the University Hospitals, Iowa City, for research. She requested no formal services be held.

Conway Funeral Home, Riceville, is in charge of arrangements.

Anne Blanche Billy was born Jan. 19, 1917, in Osage.

Survivors include one daughter, Beverly McIntosh, of Beattyville, Ky.; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; one great-great-grandson; one stepson, Michael Billy, of Chicago; two brothers, Stanley Setka, of Riceville and Mato Saraga, of San Clemente, Calif.; three sisters, Mary Jean Vulk, of Osage; Lily Pollock, of Inman, S.C.; and Betty Klee, of Green Bay, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her stepfather, and one stepbrother.

** Harriet A. Stevenson

RICEVILLE - Harriet A. Stevenson, 90, of Riceville, died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) at Riceville Community Rest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Conway Funeral Home, Riceville, with Pastor Bob Cummings of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Conway Funeral Home, Riceville.

Harriet was born March 25, 1908, in Howard County, north of Riceville.

Survivors include two sons, Richard, of Manly, and Ben, of McIntire; two daughters, Elizabeth "Libby" Wherry, of Riceville, and Trudie Lienhard, of Cresco; 16 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, two daughters, three brothers and five sisters.

** Vernon Milford Martinson

EMMONS, Minn. - Vernon Milford Martinson, 82, of Emmons, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea.

BANCROFT - Jerome Wagner, 75, of Bancroft and formerly of Pomeroy, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Whittemore, with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Jerome was born June 6, 1923, at Willowdale, Kan.

Survivors include his wife, Patricia, of Bancroft; sisters, Odel Kollasch, of Algona, Viola Origer, of Whittemore, Laverne Kollasch, of Whittemore, and Geraldine Reichert, of Donna, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.

** Rev. Elmer W. Jacobs

CHARLES CITY - The Rev. Elmer W. Jacobs, 96, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Messiah Lutheran Church with the Rev. Curt Schneider officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, with the family greeting friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Elmer Waldemar Jacobs was born Feb. 26, 1902, at Alcester, S.D.

Memorials may be directed to the Charles City Senior Center.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Spande of Burnsville, Minn.; two sons, Marvin Jacobs of Silver Springs, Md., and Dr. Gordon Jacobs of Charlotte, N.C.; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

** Donald Theodore Bauman

CLEAR LAKE - Donald Theodore Bauman, 62, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, Allison, with the Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home, Allison.

Donald Theodore Bauman was born Dec. 21, 1935, in Shell Rock.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Bauman of Waverly; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Selmer E. 'Sam' Helgeland

MASON CITY - Selmer E. "Sam" Helgeland, 81, of 841 Sixth St. S.W., died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Health Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Arne Bergland officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Selmer E. "Sam" Helgeland was born on Oct. 14, 1916, at Brookfield Township, rural Worth County, the son of Sever and Emma (Johnson) Helgeland.

Sam was employed as a farmhand for Raymond Thone, of Kensett, prior to joining the service in March 1942.

He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army for 17 months overseas in the South Pacific with the 550th Night Fighter Squadron. For his service, he received the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and a medal for Good Conduct. He was honorably discharged on Dec. 29, 1945, at Fort Leavenworth, Kan.

After the service, he worked for Percy Construction in Mason City.

Sam was an avid fisherman and enjoyed woodworking.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, and also of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 733.

Survivors include one sister, June Quinlan and her husband, Don, of Mason City; one brother, Eldon Olson and his wife, Mary Lou, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; and two brothers, Gilmore and Reuben.

** Edna Bonsall

CHARLES CITY - Edna Bonsall, 96, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. J. Larry Valery of Trinity United Methodist Church, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Sunnyside Memory Gardens.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. today at Hauser Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Thursday.

Henrietta Edna Bauer Bonsall was born Feb. 1, 1902, at Dysart.

Survivors include a brother, Irvin Bauer of Nashua; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

** Helen 'Billie' Baker Robbins

LITTLETON, Colo. - Helen "Billie" Baker Robbins, a resident of Littleton, Colo., for six years and a former resident of Omaha, Neb., for 28 years, died Wednesday (Aug. 26, 1998) at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood from complications from a fall at her home. She was 89.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday at Graceland Cemetery, Sioux City, with memorial contributions to the Van Robbins Golf Scholarship Fund, c/o Rich Larsen, Orinda Country Club, 315 Camino Sobrante, Orinda, Calif. 94563, or the PEO Sisterhood, Pearl Brown Grant, c/o Marlene Sommer, 1237 E. Geddes Ave., Littleton, Colo. 80122. Parker Funeral Home, Inc., and Parker Crematory was in charge of arrangements.

Billie was the fourth daughter of Myrtle Julia and Frank Dike Baker, and a native of Sioux City. Her father took her under his wing when she was a girl and taught her the game of golf at the Sioux City Country Club. She became an excellent amateur golfer in the state of Iowa, including city and club championships in Dubuque and Mason City, and also in Omaha.

Billie studied music at Morningside College in Iowa. She married Evan S. Robbins on Nov. 25, 1936, in Sioux City. She is a past member of the Junior League of Sioux City, member of PEO-Chapter BS of Littleton, and was active in the United Church of Christ in Omaha. She was recently a resident of Libby Bortz Assisted Living Center.

She is survived by a sister, Ruth Baker Jepson of California; a son, John W. Robbins of Englewood; and six grandchildren, Evan (III), Dike and Dee Malia Robbins, all residing in California, and Sarah, Rachael and Grant Robbins, all residing with their parents in Englewood, Colo.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Evan S. Robbins in 1991; and a son, Evan S. Robbins Jr. in 1994.

** Warren E. Spaulding

CLEAR LAKE - Warren E. Spaulding, beloved father and husband, found his peace in Christ Jesus on Sunday (Aug. 30, 1998). The son of Catherine and Clarence Spaulding began his life on Dec. 18, 1914, in Waseca, Minn. There he met and married his childhood sweetheart, Mildred L. Peterson. Warren was proud of the four children that were gifts from his life with Mildred. She preceded him in death.

Warren worked as a terminal operator for Northern Natural Gas Co. He was an active member of the Britton Road Christian Church then the Southern Hills Christian Church.

Warren's daughter, Judith Ann Spaulding, resides in Fort Worth, Texas. Son Keith and his wife, Rona, live in Oklahoma City. Daughter Carol Cargill and her husband live in Edmond and son Kenneth and his wife, Deborah, reside in Oklahoma City, Okla.

At the age of 56, Warren discovered the joy of being a grandfather with the birth of John David Harrington. John and wife, Kristy, who reside in Edmond, recently blessed Warren with the gift of his first great-grandchild, Bethany Jane.

The joy of being a grandparent was rediscovered at the age of 72. The grandchildren who will miss Grandpa are Katie and Jacob Spaulding, Lyna and Valerie Cargill, and Daniel and Cynda Spauling.

Warren was blessed with love twice in his life. He met and married Naomi Clausing on Nov. 9, 1985, in Oklahoma City. We are grateful to have Naomi in our life and hold her dear to our hearts. Her great love and compassion for Warren enriched his life and ours as well. With his marriage to Naomi, his family grew to include Tim Clausing and his wife, Jane, Chris Galegar and her husband, Steve, and many new grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Warren will be held at 10 a.m. today at Baggerley Funeral Home Chapel. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Clear Lake with the Rev. Eldon Jandebeur officiating.

CLEAR LAKE - Effie W. Wood, 98, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Graveside services will be held at a later date in the Lakeview Cemetery in Windom, Minn. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be directed to the Effie W. Wood Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 377, Clear Lake, Iowa 50428.

Effie was born July 8, 1900, in Comfrey, Minn. She was one of 12 children of Frank and Hulda Anderson. She attended public school and was confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church in Comfrey. Effie was married to the late Harry Wood in 1919, and to this union three children were born. She moved from Worthington, Minn., to Clear Lake, Lakeland Apartments, in 1987. She lived there until February 1997, when she moved to Oakwood Care Center.

She is survived by her son, Lyle Wood and his wife, Zola, of Windom, Minn.; her daughter, Betty J. Hedges and her husband, Marvin, of Clear Lake; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; 10 brothers and sisters; her husband; one son, Harry J. Wood, of Winnebago, Minn.; and three great-grandchildren, Billy Wendel, Chris Nath and Nathan Wood.

** Herman Wagner

TITONKA - Herman Wagner, 90, died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Redeker of Ramsey Reformed Church officiating. Interment will be in the Ramsey Reformed Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Herman Wagner was born March 29, 1908, near Titonka.

Survivors include two nieces, Anna Potter of Buffalo Center, and Linda Bronson of Wesley; and one nephew, Melvin Ricks of Titonka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister.

** Wayne C. Schoenwetter

HAYFIELD, Minn. - Wayne C. Schoenwetter, 72, of 10626 100th St. S. W., died Monday (Aug. 31, 1998) of cancer.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Church at Hayfield with the Rev. Richard Dernak officiating. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Hayfield.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Griffin-Gray Funeral Home in Stewartville. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

Wayne C. Schoenwetter was born Aug. 13, 1926, in Hancock County, a son of Edward and Nora (Swanson) Schoenwetter.

Wayne C. Schoenwetter grew up on the family farm at Klemme, Iowa. He attended rural schools and Klemme High School. After high school, he worked at the Klemme Hardware store.

He was united in marriage to Marie Nedved on Dec. 28, 1948, in Garner, Iowa. After his marriage, he worked at the hardware store until 1952, when the couple moved to a farm in Kanawha, Iowa. They farmed there until 1963 when they moved to their present farm in Rock Dell Township.

He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church at Hayfield. He was a supervisor for 13 years for Olmsted County Soil and Water Conservation. He was a board member for 20 years with Rochester Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. He was a past member of the Rock Dell Township Board and a member of the Rochester Eagles Club.

Betty died suddenly on Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

She was born on June 28, 1934, in Mason City, the daughter of Ayna and Catherine (Rafferty) Olsen.

Betty graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1952.

Following graduation, she worked at Wilson Co., later to be known as Farmstead, for more than 30 years. She was currently working at Armour in Britt. She had been employed there for the past nine years. Her co-workers were special "family" to her.

She was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church.

Betty's main priority was her family and she loved spending time with her sisters, and their families.

Her other hobbies included reading, crafts and playing cards.

Betty is survived by four sisters, Janet and her husband, Richard "Red" Mershon, of Albert Lea; Jean and her husband, Warren Moe, of Des Moines; Karen Olsen, of Albert Lea; and Nancy Schulz, of Forest City; brother-in-law, Paul Stumo, of Clear Lake; nieces and nephews, Lori and her husband, Ray Willaert, of St. Peter, Minn., Rick Mershon and his wife, Jodi, of Woodbury, Minn., Jeff Moe and his wife, Karen, of Johnston; Amy and her husband, Dan Shaver, of Urbandale; Chris Schulz, of Forest City; Renee and her husband, Chad Ackerman, of Forest City; Brian and David Stumo, of Clear Lake; Pam and her husband, Donny Flint, of Cedar City, Utah; and several great-nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

** Sgt. Andrew 'Andy' Jahnke

CLEAR LAKE - Sgt. Andrew "Andy" Jahnke, 23, of 2911 300th St., Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday (Sept. 1, 1998) from injuries received in a car accident north of Mason City, Iowa.

All persons are invited to attend a time of sharing memories about Andy at 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, 1998, at Ventura Community High School, Ventura. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Corps, Delta Battery, 2nd Battalion, 14th Marines.

The family will greet friends from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the high school commons.

They suggest those wishing to remember Andy with a memorial should direct them to a Memorial Scholarship Fund at the Ventura High School.

Andy was born April 18, 1975, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Curtis Jahnke and Linda (Dethlefs) Jahnke. He graduated from Ventura High School in 1993.

Later that year, he entered the United States Marine Corps. After finishing basic training in San Diego, Calif., he was stationed in the 29th Palms. He also completed Marine Security Guard Training in Quantico, Va. He served as a guard at the United States Embassies in Monrovia, Liberia, Stockholm, Sweden and Lima, Peru. In Peru, he met his fiancee, Darlene Bernaola. The two planned to return to Clear Lake and live on the family farm and continue their education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

Andy was home with his fiancee to attend his uncle's wedding and then return to Peru to finish his six weeks tour of duty.

Andy enjoyed hunting, riding his motorcycle, playing football and was an avid body builder.

He is survived by his parents, Ken and Linda Robertson, Jerry Kramer, and Curt Jahnke and Sharon Lindsay; a sister, Angela Jahnke, of Clear Lake, and her special friend, Tom Cervantes, of Iowa City; fiancee Darlene Bernaola, of Miami, Fla.; maternal grandmother, Glenyce Dethlefs, of Clear Lake; paternal grandparents, Jerry and Eva Weiner, of Burt, Iowa; two uncles, Alan Jahnke and his wife, Dorothy, of Burt, and Steve Dethlefs and his wife, Dana, of Mason City.

She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of Gwynn & The Boys Band.

** Harold Fredrick Mueller

MASON CITY - Harold Fredrick Mueller, 92, of Mason City, formerly of Manly, died Thursday (Sept. 3, 1998) at his home in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, in Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Harold Fredrick Mueller was born on July 6, 1906, Lincoln Township in Worth County, near Manly, the son of Gotlieb and Bertha (Stoecker) Mueller.

His early life was spent on the farm and attending rural school and Manly High School graduating in 1921. He also attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City and worked for the First National Bank in Mason City during his vacation times.

He later attended Iowa State University and received his Bachelors of Science degree in 1929, returning to work at the First National Bank in Mason City.

He was united in marriage to Marcella Bergland on Jan. 2, 1931, in Manly. In 1933, they moved to a farm southwest of Manly and farmed until his retirement.

Harold helped set up the original farm program for Worth County in 1934, and continued working and serving on the A.S.C. committee until 1954. In 1958, Harold was elected Worth County State Representative and served Worth and Winnebago counties until 1965. He also served as county treasurer to fill out a term.

Harold served on the Worth County Fair Board as treasurer for many years, and was a long time member of the Worth County Coop Oil Company.

His interest in the community was serving as a board member of the Manly State Bank and serving as treasurer of the St. Paul's Church in Manly for many years.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Marcie Mueller, of Mason City; three sons, Gene Mueller and his wife, Helen, of Manly; Ray Mueller and his wife, Kathy, of Evergreen, Colo.; and Paul Mueller and his wife, Roma, of Clive; one daughter, Mary Griffith, of Towson, Md.; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Albert Mueller, of Manly; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Don Mueller, who died on Aug. 16, 1996; and a brother, Mark Mueller.

OSAGE - Rose Evelyn Hungate, 88, of Osage, died Thursday (Sept. 3, 1998) at the Faith Home, in Osage.

Rose Evelyn Hungate was born on Dec. 23, 1909, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of John and Alma (Churchill) Anderson.

She attended schools in Barnum, Minn., and Marshall, Minn. She later worked at Iowa State University in Ames, before marrying Harmon Hungate in 1934 in Boone. To this union was born a son, Walter, in 1940. He died in 1988.

They farmed in the Ames and Spencer areas, then moved to their farm near Osage in 1953. Harmon Hungate died in 1981. Rose continued to live on the family farm until moving to the Faith Home in August of 1998.

Rose enjoyed embroidery, crocheting, working on her farm and many outdoor activities.

She also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and friends.

Rose is survived by three grandchildren, Jacquelyn (Hungate) Fox and her husband, Don, of Osage; Kirk Hungate, of Osage; and Jennifer (Hungate) Morrison and her husband, Aaron, of Lake, Minn.; one daughter-in-law, Judi (Hungate) Oudekerk, of Buffalo, Minn.; five great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harmon; one son, Walter; two sisters and five brothers.
