** Wilbur J. Hollatz

GARNER — Wilbur J. Hollatz, 86, of Mason City, died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at the I.O.O.F. Home, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, northeast of Garner, with Pastor Carl Hedberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, near Garner, with graveside military rites by the Garner Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Wilbur J. Hollatz, the son of Henry Gustav and Bertha Augusta (Bohn) Hollatz was born Sept. 1, 1912, on a farm north of Clear Lake. He was baptized in October of 1912 and confirmed in April of 1926, at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

After attending St. John’s Parochial School, he worked for various farmers in the area, at the Ventura Creamery and then as a cream tester at the Farmer’s Co-op Creamery in Garner.

He served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army in the 65th Engineering Battalion, being stationed in the South Pacific. After the service he worked as a painter and carpenter.

As a younger man, his hobbies included hunting, fishing, trapping and singing. Due to failing health, he made his home at the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Walther League, sang in the church choir for 25 years and sang in the Mason City Barbershop Chorus for many years. He was active in the Garner V.F.W. where he had served as Commander.

He is survived by six sisters, Edna Albers and her husband, Lubbe, of Clear Lake; Pearl DeGroote and her husband, Darrel, of Corwith; Ethel Schoenwetter, of Klemme; Helen Harms and her husband, Raymond, of Dubuque; Stella Lemke and her husband, Byrnes, of Klemme; and Ardith Toppin and her husband, Wayne, of Ventura; a brother-in-law, Edgar Reed, of Mason City; and many nieces and nephews.

His parents; two brothers, Ellsworth Hollatz and Melvin Hollatz; and two sisters, Alma Reed and Edith Poole preceded him in death.

** Willard Charlson

FOREST CITY — Willard Charlson, 74, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery, Forest City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City.

Willard I. Charlson was born on the family farm near Crystal Lake on Oct. 20, 1923, the son of Irving and Oliva (Morem) Charlson. He attended rural school near his home.

He married Evelyn Sachau on Nov. 23, 1951. The couple made their home in Forest City their entire married lives.

Willard worked as superintendent of the Forest City Municipal Light Plant for over 30 years. He also served on the City Council for Forest City.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to work on cars.

Willard is survived by his children and their spouses, Elynn and Teresa Charlson, of Forest City; Georgia and Brad Robbins, of Forest City; Lora and Jeff Darling, of Kirkman; and Natalie "Pat" and Tom Koob, of Madrid; two sisters, Mavis Berhow, of Dakota City; and Irene Holland, of Forest City; a brother, Amery Charlson of Swea City; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Evelyn, who died June 24, 1997.

** Joseph Edward Berry

HAMPTON — Joseph Edward Berry, 84, died Friday (Sept. 11, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital, Hampton, of natural causes.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Gerald Condon officiating. Burial will take place in Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation was held Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Joseph was born June 12, 1914, in Mason City, the son of William A. Berry and Anna Mae Coyle. He attended Holy Family Catholic School, Mason City; one year at St. Thomas College in St. Paul, Minn.; one year at Mason City Junior College and also attended Mason City Business College.

During World War II he served in the U.S. Army from 1943-1946.

He married Mildred Van Every on June 12, 1941, in Bluffton, Iowa. He worked as a livestock buyer for Armour Co. for 43 years.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Hampton, the Knights of Columbus, VFW, and the American Legion.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Mildred Berry, Hampton; three sons, Michael Wm. Berry, Whitewater, Wis., Thomas E. Berry, Hampton, and Patrick J. Berry, Kirkland, Wash.; one sister, Helen Kelsh, Mason City; one brother, Paul R. Berry, Winona, Minn.; and seven grandchildren, Jennifer Lunzer, Superior, Neb., Steven Berry, Ankeny, Michael Berry, Milwaukee, Wis., Sean Berry, Whitewater, Wis., and Katherine Berry, Anthony Berry, and Laura Berry, all of Kirkland, Wash.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Russell Telford Thompson

KENSETT — Russell Telford Thompson, 87, of Kensett, died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Private graveside inurnment services will be held in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, with Rev. Selmer G. "Sam" Hernes officiating.

According to his wishes, his body was cremated. Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly, is in charge of arrangements.

Russell Telford Thompson was born on April 21, 1911, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Paul Robert and Bessie Emily (Olson) Thompson.

He attended and received his education in the Martin Township Brookfield No. 6 rural school system.

After completing his schooling, he helped his family on the family farm. He also was a rural mail carrier in Northwood.

He was united in marriage to Viola Alice Thompson on Dec. 15, 1935, in Geneva, Minn. After their marriage, they farmed and in 1969, the family moved to Fountain, Minn., where he was a police officer for 21 years and also was a security guard for over five years at the Apache Mall in Rochester, Minn., until moving to Kensett in August of 1991.

He was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Kensett and was a former member of the Moose Lodge in Mason City.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Viola Thompson, of Kensett; three daughters, Myrna A. Merfeld and her husband, Kenneth, of Mason City; Betty P. Miller and her husband, Donald, of Wakeman, Ohio; and Dulcie K. Thompson and her husband, Lynn, of Austin, Minn.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters.

** Helen L. Pavlovich

CLARION — Helen L. Pavlovich, 88, of Clarion, died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) at Community Memorial Hospital, in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Lutheran Church, Clarion, with the Rev. Gary Boen, officiating.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, Sept. 18, 1998, at the Tecumseh Cemetery, in Tecumseh, Neb., with Pastor Hugh Giesbrecht officiating.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Willim Funeral Home, in Clarion.

Helen Louise was born on Oct. 14, 1909, in Tecumseh, Neb.

Helen is survived by her husband, Tony, of Clarion.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

** Lena Meta Silver

GENEVA — Lena Meta Silver, 82, of Geneva, died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Geneva United Methodist Church, Geneva, with the Rev. Paul Smith, officiating. Burial will be in Lindenwood Cemetery, rural Geneva.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, in Hampton.

Lena Meta Silver was born March 8, 1916, in Franklin County.

Survivors include two sons, Robert Silver, of Hansell and Raymond Silver, of Geneva; five daughters, Betty Gunderson, of Hampton; Lois Meyer, of Iowa Falls; Lucille Ahlberg, Cindy Sanders, and Sharon Toomsen, all of Geneva; three sisters, Sena Ibeling, of Dumont; Marie Voy, of Geneva; and Dorothy Harper, of Hansell; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one grandson.

** Edris Jane Stonebraker

HAMPTON — Edris Jane Stonebraker, 101, Hampton, died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the First Christian Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Joe Jones officiating. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Edris Jane Stonebraker was born April 26, 1897, in Corwith.

Survivors include one son, Robert Stonebraker, Walker, Minn.; two grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and one sister.

** Ben Smidt

MASON CITY — Ben Smidt, 82, 15 19th St. S.E., died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Faith Baptist Church, mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., where other arrangements are incomplete.

** Gwen Stedman

FOREST CITY — Gwen Stedman, 85, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immanual Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Interment will be in Oakland Cemetery, Sac City.

There will be no visitation. Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City, is in charge of arrangements.

Gwen Oates was born in Taylorville, Christian County, Ill., on July 6, 1913, the only child of Vern and Goldie (Bryan) Oates. She graduated from the Taylorville High School in 1941.

She was married to Donald Edgar Stedman on Jan. 25, 1935, in Taylorville, Ill. In 1951, the family moved to Sac City, where she lived until 1967 when she moved to Forest City to begin employment at Winnebago Industries, Inc. She retired in 1978. She had lived in the Town Square Apartments since 1977.

She is survived by her son, David L. Stedman, of Townsend, Mont.; her daughters, Donna Greenlee and husband, Bruce, of Sartell, Minn.; Billie Peacock, of Paton; Elizabeth Larson and husband, Larry, of Forest City; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and her very dear friends, Barbara Bulman, of Forest City and Ned Bulman, of Hudson, Wis.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Stedman, who died on Oct. 21, 1962; her parents; and son-in-law, Richard Peacock.

** Maxine Marie Lantz

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Maxine Marie (Lambert) Lantz was born in Mason City, on June 10, 1921. Her mother, Elizabeth, a homemaker and her father, Earl, a conductor for the Milwaukee Railroad were of Irish Catholic decent and parishioners of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was the oldest of seven children, Mary Coe, of Littleton, Colorado; Jean Dombrowski, of Mason City; Patricia Dempsey, of Mason City; and John Lambert, of Albert Lea, Minn.; and Roger and Roland Lambert, of Mason City (both deceased).

She graduated from Mason City High School, the Class of "39." She worked for Younkers Department Store and also lived for sometime in Chicago and worked as a secretary.

Returning to Mason City, she met and married Clyde Lantz, of Clear Lake, Iowa, on Jan. 23, 1948. She gave birth to four children, two daughters and a son, while a resident of Mason City and after moving to Compton, Calif. in 1957, she gave birth to a third daughter in 1960. Shortly after locating in Compton, she became a very active member of St. Philip Neri Catholic Church. While her children attended St. Philip's, she held several officer positions and over a 16 year span, raised thousands of dollars to aid the parish.

In 1971, her family moved to Anaheim, Calif. where she became an assistant to Virginia Knott, of Virginia's Gift Shop at Knott's Berry Farm. She retired in 1981 and after her husband retired, they began to travel, visiting almost every state and parts of Canada, always returning to Mason City.

On July 10, 1998, she was hospitalized due to complications of a long ago diagnosis of lymphatic leukemia and on September 8, 1998, she passed away while her husband of 50 years stood near.

Some of her most cherished memories are of her early years and the marriages of her sisters and brother, and of those wonderful people they had chosen, Arnie Coe (deceased), Ray Dombrowski, Paul Dempsey and Julie Lambert, 18 nieces and nephews, their wives, husbands and children, all of whom completed her life and her family.

She is survived by her husband, Clyde; her daughters, Janan Johnson, of Victorville, Calif.; Susan Doyle, of Anaheim, Calif.; Mary Joho, of Somerville, N.J.; and her son, Robert, of Wildomar, Calif.. She will be dearly missed by her sons-in-law, Roy Johnson and David Joho; and daughter-in-law, Toni Lantz; and her grandchildren, Corbi Doyle, Stephanie Perreira, Mandy, Matt and Terri Lantz; Ryan Scott, Michael Joho, Staci Johnson and stepgrandsons, Nathan and Brian Joho. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Madeline and Max Maricio and Cassie Perreira.

She celebrated each new life and mourned each new passing, and will be deeply missed.

** Merlyn D. Smith

MASON CITY — Merlyn D. Smith, 72, of 1634 Fourth St. S.W., died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 302 Fifth St. S.E., Mason City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with a scriptural prayer service beginning at 7 p.m.

Merlyn D. Smith was born Oct. 31, 1925, in Clear Lake, son of Floyd and Ruth (Proctor) Smith. He married Patty Bielefeld on June 10, 1950, in Cartersville.

Merlyn served in the Army during World War II. He and his wife farmed in the Mason City area for seven years and then he worked at Lehigh Cement for more than 31 years until retiring in 1988.

Merlyn enjoyed being with family and friends, going south in the winter, early bird coffee with his buddies at McDonald’s, walking every morning and fixing anything that was broken. He was always willing to lend a hand and was a faithful servant of God.

Survivors include his wife, Patty Smith, of Mason City; one son, Merlyn Smith, of Columbia, Mo.; one daughter, Ava Rezab and her husband, Mike, of Mason City; one grandson, Matt Rezab, a student at Wartburg College, of Waverly; one sister, Lois Sharron, of Redding, Calif.; and many other loving relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Maynard, Dale, Dean and Don; and one sister, Dorla Schindele.

** Ben Smidt

MASON CITY — Ben Smidt, 82, of 15 19th St. S.E., died Monday (Sept. 14, 1998) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Faith Baptist Church, 1807 S. Kentucky Ave., with the Rev. Miles Grismore officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorials may be given in his memory to Hospice of North Iowa.

Ben was born April 28, 1916 in Britt, the son of Henry and Emily (Heerkes) Smidt.

Ben married Dorothy Meckel on Aug. 13, 1949 in Rock Island, Ill.

Ben worked for Cerro Gordo County in the Maintenance Department for 26 years, retiring in 1981.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Ben is survived by his wife, Dorothy Smidt, of Mason City; daughter, Julie Broers, of Mason City; son, Jerry Smidt and his wife, Ann, of Britt; grandchildren, Brad, Daniel, Brandon and Derrick Broers, Anthony, Lori and Alana Smidt; one great-grandchild; one brother, George Smidt, of Mason City; four sisters, Emily Block, of Mason City; Helen Smidt, of Mason City; Geraldine Pitkin, of Clear Lake; and Jenele Gourley, of Mason City; and several nieces and nephews.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Helen Mae; one son, Benjamin; one son-in-law, Bardelt Broers; and nine brothers and sisters.

** Ellijah James Roggeman

MASON CITY — Ellijah James Roggeman, 2-day-old son of Jamie Roggeman and Holly Tool, 1211 S. Rhode Island Ave., died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at Children’s Hospital, Minneapolis, Minn.

Private family services will be held at the hospital.

A memorial service will be held at a later date when his twin brother is well enough to leave the hospital with his parents.

Elijah is survived by his parents, Jamie Roggeman and Holly Tool, of Mason City; his identical twin brother, Skyler Jaccob; paternal grandmother, Karen Sporaa, of Mason City; maternal grandparents, Craig and Loretta Tool, of Newton; paternal great-grandparents, William and Lucille Roggeman, of Mason City; maternal great-grandparents, Marian and Mary Benac, of Newton; his uncle, Joel Tool, of Newton; and several great-aunts and uncles.

Memorials may be given to the Ellijah James Roggeman Memorial Fund in care of the family at 1211 S. Rhode Island Ave., Mason City, Iowa 50401.

** Tracy M. Bonker

BRITT — Tracy M. Bonker, 93, of Britt, died Thursday (Sept. 17, 1998) at the Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. in Oakwood Cemetery, Plymouth.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with a 3 p.m. Rosary and a 4:30 p.m. Parish Wake Service. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Tracy M. Bonker was born Oct. 13, 1904, in Elmdale, Minn.

Survivors include two sisters, Helen Fraune, Bertha, Minn., and Verona Freitag, of Wadena, Minn.; and one brother, George Peka, of Glenwood, Minn.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and four sisters.

ALGONA — Darold C. Simmons, 62, of Algona, died Thursday (Sept. 17, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with the Rev. Steve Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

There will be a parish prayer service 7 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

Darold C. Simmons was born June 18, 1936, in Algona.

Survivors include his wife, Jane, of Algona; five daughters, Sheryl Simmons and Deb Skilling, both of Algona; Anita Hatchitt, of Des Moines; Gina Iler, of Bondurant; and Brenda Priebe, of Algona; 13 grandchildren; one great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

** Annette M. Holcomb

ALGONA — Annette M. Holcomb, 82, of Algona, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, with the Rev. Paul Eisele officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Whittemore.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

Annette Holcomb was born Nov. 23, 1915, in Dubuque.

Survivors include her husband, Kenneth Holcomb, of Algona; four daughters, Kay Petersen, of Waukee; Pat Lauck, of Algona; Janet Baxter, of Boise, Idaho; and Cindy Ellis, of El Paso, Texas; two sons, Kenneth Holcomb Jr., of Algona; and William Holcomb, of Algona; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Francis "Bud" G. Bestenlehner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and one great-grandchild.

BRITT — Robert L. Foster, 76, of Britt, died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at the Heritage Care Center, Britt.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel, Britt, with the Rev. Drew Zahl officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery. A flag presentation will be conducted by the Britt V.F.W. and American Legion Posts.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. today and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the funeral chapel.

Robert L. Foster was born on July 25, 1922, in Britt.

Survivors include his wife, Bertha Foster, of Britt; four daughters, Judy Crockett, of Ankeny; Janet Johnson, of Des Moines; Jeanne Martin, of Cheyenne, Wyo.; and Joan O’Connell, of Cedar Falls; four sisters, Ruth Hughes, of Downey, Calif.; Jean Larson, of Venice, Calif.; Betty Missman, of Des Moines; and Darlene Swindig, of Apple Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, a great-grandson, and one sister.

GREENE — Funeral services for Inez M. Landers, 74, of 19796 150th Street, Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 21, 1998, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, in Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, in Greene.

Visitation will be held 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, in Greene, where there will be a scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the church one hour before services on Monday.

Inez Marguerite Rodman was born April 10, 1924, in rural Dayton Township, Butler County, a daughter of James Romanzo and Ella Harriet (Burrows) Rodman, and died Friday (Sept. 18, 1998) at her home following a long battle with cancer.

She began her education in the rural Dayton Township Schools and in 1930, the family moved to Fredericksburg, where she attended schools there. In 1937 the family returned to Greene, where she graduated from the Greene High School in 1942. She taught seven years in rural schools.

On Nov. 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Ardean Henry Landers at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene. To this union was born three children. They farmed in the rural Greene area, moving onto their present farm in 1955. Inez worked with Ardean in the farming operation and insurance at their home for 21 years.

Inez was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, always supporting her children and grandchildren through their school and athletic activities. She was active in the Music Mothers for many years. She will be remembered for her love of baking and cooking.

She was baptized May 4, 1924 at the Powersville Union Church and confirmed April 3, 1949, a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. Inez was a faithful member of WELCA where she served on the funeral committee for many years.

Living family members include her loving husband of 50 years, Ardean, of Greene; two daughters and their spouses, Myrna and LeRoy Beechey, of Richland Center, Wis. and Arlene and Kevin Noss, of Dougherty; one son, Russell, of Seattle, Wash.; seven grandchildren, Ryan, Amy and Michael Landers, Martin and Phillip Johnson, and David and Dana Noss; one great-grandson, Alex Landers; four sisters, Elsie Richardson, of Winona, Minn., Ethel Wilhelm, of Allison, Vera and her husband, Glen Knutson, of Fredericksburg, and Edith Schmidt, of Clarksville; and one brother, Jim Rodman, of Sumner; brother-in-law, Carl Smith Jr., of Ionia.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Alice Smith, Ruth Weiss, and Sally Rodman; and two brothers, Kenneth and John Rodman.

SHELDON — Daniel Boster, 68, of Sheldon, died on Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at Sioux Valley Hospital, Sioux Falls, S.D. Dan reached the age of 68 years, five months and 14 days.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church, Sheldon, with the Rev. Jeffrey Dahlin officiating.

Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Daniel Dean Boster, the son of Albert and Dora (Kaduce) Boster, was born April 3, 1930, in Thornton. He attended school in Mason City.

On Jan. 29, 1949, he was united in marriage to Delores Austin, in Albert Lea, Minn. After their marriage, the couple lived in Mason City where he was employed by the North Iowa Co-op Soybean Plant.

The couple moved to Sheldon in 1959, where he was employed by Big 4, later becoming AGP, working there until 1970.

They moved to Elk River, Minn., where he was a partner in Industrial Hardfacing. The couple later lived in Ankeny, where he and his wife started Tome Ltd., which they moved to Sheldon in 1986.

In 1991, they sold the company to his daughter and son-in-law and started Recycling Resources, which he sold in 1995 before retirement. Dan is survived by his wife, Delores, of Sheldon; one son and his wife, Dennis and Debra Boster, of Omaha, Neb.; one daughter and her husband, Bonnie and Michael Weaver, of Sheldon; five grandchildren, Michelle Dozier, Kelley Weaver, Katie and her husband, Jim Justi, David Boster and Angela Boster; his mother, Dora Boelman, of Mason City; one sister, Leta Dunt, of Lost Nation; also a host of other relatives and friends.

Dan was preceded in death by a daughter, Becky; his father, four brothers and one sister.

** Herbert (Herb) Fuller Jr.

CLEAR LAKE — Herbert (Herb) Fuller Jr., 66, died at his home Monday (Sept. 14, 1998).

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Carl Hedberg of St. John's Lutheran church, Garner, officiating. According to his wishes, his body was cremated.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday and one hour prior to services Tuesday at the chapel, 101 N. Fourth Street, Clear Lake. Inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Herbert (Herb) Fuller Jr. was born Sept. 17, 1931, in Clear Lake, the son of Herbert and Jennie (Moorehead) Fuller. He graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1950 as class valedictorian. He worked on his family farm until entering the U.S. Air Force in 1951, and after his honorable discharge in 1953, he returned to Clear Lake.

He was united in marriage to Elda Woiwod on Sept. 6, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Garner, and together they had two children, Rodney and Nancy. He was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at St. John's Lutheran Church, Garner.

Herb began his career with the U.S. Postal Service in 1954 and worked as a window-counter clerk at the Clear Lake Post Office for 35 years until his retirement in December 1989.

In his retirement years he enjoyed reading, watching TV, spending time with his family and spoiling his grandchildren. He shared an especially close bond with his grandson, Brian, who enjoyed a lot of special times with his grandpa. He will be greatly missed and always cherished.

He is survived by one son, Rodney Fuller and his wife, Cecile, Manhattan Beach, Calif.; and one daughter, Nancy Gates and her husband, Rick, Clear Lake; and four grandchildren, Brian Gates, Erin Gates, Jessica Fuller and Jennifer Fuller.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, June Fuller, who died in 1929.

Odell was born Dec. 11, 1905, in Dawson, Minn., the son of Carl and Mena (Ask) Haugen. Odell moved with his family to the Meroa-Rock Creek area and then in 1912 the family moved to the family farm near Mona.

Odell was married to Gerd Westend on Dec. 11, 1949, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar. They lived and farmed on the family farm near Mona until retiring in 1976. They moved to Osage in 1979.

He is survived by his wife, Gerd Haugen, Osage; a daughter, Linda Lagoni, her husband, Bill, and children, Trisha, Cami and Casey, of Parker, Colo.; and a son, Terry Haugen, his wife, Faye, and their children, Karen, Erik and Matthew, of St. Ansgar.

Odell was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Gaylord Haugen; and a brother, Leland Haugen and his wife, Hattie Haugen.

KLEMME — Arselene Mildred (Penning) Haack, 67, died Friday (Sept. 18, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Arselene Mildred (Penning) Haack, the daughter of John and Effie (Hugo) Penning, was born Feb. 25, 1931, at Buffalo Center.

She was united in marriage to Ewald Haack on June 5, 1950, at Albert Lea, Minn. To this union two children were born, Evelyn Marie and Robert Dean.

Arselene liked working with her flowers and garden, as well as going fishing and watching and feeding the birds and animals.

She is survived by her husband, Ewald, Klemme; a daughter, Evelyn Marie Chapin and her husband, Dean, Cambridge, N.Y.; a son, Robert Dean Haack, Waterloo; grandchildren, Debbie Lee Chapin and Stephanie Dawn Chapin; sisters, Adeline Studer and her husband, Lee, Elkhart, and Barbara Wolford and her husband, Donald, Hampton; and brothers, Harold Penning and his wife, Betty, St. Benedict, and Larry Penning and his wife, Carol, Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Adeline M. Crane was born on Feb. 4, 1913, near Rudd, to Amos and Clara (Luder) Lundene. She was baptized in 1913 and confirmed in 1929 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

She attended country school near Rudd until the eighth grade and graduated from Mitchell High School in 1932. After graduation she cleaned houses, babysat, worked as a cook in cafes in Carpenter and Northwood and in the kitchen at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, until she was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1974.

On Dec. 10, 1936, she married Lawrence Troe at the Lutheran parsonage in St. Ansgar. They made their home in Carpenter along with their four children until her husband's death.

Adeline was a member of Deer Creek Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for several years and belonged to Ladies Aid. She liked quilting, crocheting, traveling, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In June of 1970 she married Charles Crane of Otranto in Northwood. They made their home in Carpenter until his death in 1988. In 1989, Adeline moved to Lake Mills.

She is survived by one daughter, Lavonne Thomsen, Albert Lea, Minn.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Larry and Peggy Troe, Brisbane, Calif., and Gary and Marlys Troe, Lake Mills; three sisters, Mrs. Carl (Violet) Rowe, Owatonna, Minn., Mrs. Reuben (Betty) Kroneman, St. Ansgar, and Dorothy Anderson, Austin, Minn.; one sister-in-law, Maxine Lundene, Austin, Minn.; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one daughter, one brother, two sisters and one great-grandson.

** Robert Otto Albrecht

MASON CITY — Robert Otto Albrecht, 86, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Friday (Sept. 18, 1998) at the Good Shepherd Healthcare Center.

Robert Otto Albrecht was born Sept. 22, 1911, in St. Paul Minn., son of Otto Paul and Lydia (Rehder) Albrecht. He married Elizabeth V. Emeny on Aug. 21, 1937, in St. Paul.

Robert grew up in St. Paul, Minn., and attended the University of Minnesota. Throughout his lifetime, he sold property and casualty insurance, starting with St. Paul companies and owning and operating Albrecht's Insurance in Mason City for many years, retiring in 1975.

After retirement he and his wife enjoyed spending their summers at "Der Frieden" near Siren, Wis. Robert was an avid fisherman. He had a great love for music and was a long-time member of River City Barbershop Chorus and the Silvertops Quartet. He was a member and then senior choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. He was also a past president and member of the Mason City Kiwanis Club.

Robert is survived by two daughters, Judith Ellingboe and Jim, Minneapolis, and Jean Brattrud and Richard, Hanlontown; three sons, John Albrecht and Gayle, Granite Falls, Minn., James Albrecht and Katherine O'Dell, Minneapolis, and Jeffrey Albrecht and Donna Hanbery, Minneapolis; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife this past April; and two brothers, Paul and Karl Albrecht.

CLARKSVILLE — Lawrence C. Calease, 81, of 123 East Wamsley Ave., died Wednesday (Sept. 16, 1998) at Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, of natural causes.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville, with the Rev. Norm Omodt officiating. Interment took place in Lynwood Cemetery, Clarksville.

Schwartz Funeral Home, Clarksville, handled the arrangements.

Lawrence L. Calease, the son of Howard O. And Grayce McElroy Calease, was born on Feb. 5, 1917, in Rockford. He lived in Floyd, Mitchell and Butler counties while growing up. Lawrence received his education in rural schools and graduated from the Greene High School.

On Aug. 21, 1941, he was united in marriage to Ella Schilling at St. John Lutheran Church, Clarksville. They made their home on farms between Plainfield and Clarksville. Lawrence farmed all his adult life. He retired in 1981 and they moved to their present home in Clarksville.

Lawrence was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church. He served on the church council and the school board of Fremont No. 3 , a rural school. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Lawrence is survived by his wife, Ella Calease, Clarksville; five sons, Dean and Barb Calease, Clarksville, Dale and Ellen Calease, Waverly, Lloyd and Patricia Calease, Clarksville, Leland and Patty Calease, Greene, and Jerry and Kathy Calease, Waverly; three daughters, Janice and Red Metz, Clarksville, Carolyn Witte, Hampton, and Shirley and Dan Clark, Clarksville; 33 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Cecil Lines, Marble Rock.

Marguerite F. Crawford was born Jan. 23, 1915, in Clear Lake, to Olaf and Bertha (Buros) Halvorson. She graduated from Clear lake High School in 1932.

On Nov. 5, 1938, she was united in marriage to Keith P. Crawford in Clear Lake. Marguerite taught in Lincoln Township school for six years prior to moving to Mason City in 1955.

Marguerite was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and St. Joseph's Mercy Hospital Auxillary. She enjoyed playing bridge and golf as well as knitting and traveling.

She is survived by her husband, Keith P. Crawford, Mason City; one son, Larry Crawford and his wife, Kay, Shoreview, Minn.; a daughter, Jane A. Klang, Chaska, Minn.; two granddaughters, Lisa Klang, Minneapolis, and Kelly Etienne and husband, Tony, St. Louis Park, Minn.; and one great-granddaughter, Madeleine Shea Etienne, St. Louis Park.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and at the church one hour prior to the service Monday.

Memorials may be directed to St. James Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa, Mason City.

Barney was born Nov. 13, 1915, in Plymouth, the son of Fred and Anna (Factor) Rose. He was raised in the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) Home with his brother and sisters.

He graduated from Mason City High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Barney married Maxine Rohde on Dec. 10, 1947, in Mason City. He retired from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) IN 1978. He was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and American Legion Post 101 in Mason City.

Barney is survived by his wife, Maxine Rose, Mason City; two sons, Fred Rose and special friend, Kelli Finnegan, and her son, Dane Birkholz, of Mason City, and Jim Rose and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; a daughter, Kathy Musson and her husband, Robert, of Lake Zurich, Ill.; one sister, Luella Bouck, of Mason City; three grandchildren, Amanda Rose and David and Danny Rose; two great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and the family dog, Buddy.

Barney was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Ervin and Fred; and two sisters, Genevieve Vogel and Dorothy Calicchia.
