** Nedra Lack Benson

ORCHARD — Mrs. Guy (Nedra) Benson, 62, of Yorba Linda, Calif., formerly of Orchard, died Friday (May 22, 1998) at her home of natural causes.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Orchard, Iowa, with the Rev. William Griffee and the Rev. Stewart Smith, officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Champion Funeral Home, Osage, with the family receiving friends from 7 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the Church.

Nedra Jan Lack, daughter of H. Julian and Doris (Morse) Lack, was born Jan. 10, 1936, in Osage, Iowa.

She grew up on a farm east of Orchard and attended Orchard Schools.

She was united in marriage to Guy D. Benson on Feb. 1, 1954, in Leon, Iowa. They moved to Inglewood, Calif. in 1954 and resided in California for 44 years.

She was baptized at Acacia Avenue Baptist Church, Hawthorne, Calif. by the Rev. Henry Buhler. She graduated from El Camino College with an AA degree in Cosmetology.

She was a loving wife, daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and a friend to many. She inspired people with a Christian spirit and giving heart, qualities that serve as a lasting tribute. Her childhood love of horses and basketball continued throughout her life.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Benson, of Yorba Linda, Calif.; two daughters, Deborah Benson, of Long Beach, Calif.; and Denise Lynch and her husband, James, of Lomita, Calif.; one brother, Philip K. Lack, of Orchard, Iowa; three grandchildren, Michael Huss, of Long Beach, Calif., Michael Lynch, Torrance, Calif., and Megan Lynch, Torrance, Calif.

** Marian J. Will

ALGONA — Marian J. Will, 71, of 602 N. Thorington, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at the Algona Manor Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First United Methodist Church, Algona, with the Rev. Philip Webb, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home.

Marion J. Will was born June 23, 1926 in Algona.

Survivors include her husband, Cecil Will, of Algona; three sons, John T. Will, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Tim Will, of Des Moines, and Mark Will, of Stockton, Calif.; seven grandchildren; one brother, J. Terry McGuire, of Algona; three sisters, Midge Andreasen, of Algona; Madonna Ryan, of West Des Moines, and Doris Potter, of Vermillion S.D.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** Ray Franzen

TITONKA — Ray Franzen, 70, of Titonka, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at the Titonka Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Titonka, with the Rev. Virtus Stoffregren, officiating. Burial will be in the Church cemetery with graveside military services conducted by the American Legion Post #628 of Woden.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Titonka.

Ray was born on Sept. 28, 1927 at Titonka.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Franzen, of Titonka; his children, Michael Fredrickson, of Iowa Falls; Scott Fredrickson, of Yale; and Shelly Kardoes, of Burt; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Doris Isebrand and Margaret Finer, both of Titonka.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and two sisters.

** Jane A. Bahnsen

MASON CITY — Jane A. Bahnsen, 46, of 929 N. Madison Ave., died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Jane A. Bahnsen was born Jan. 6, 1952, at Mason City, the daughter of Vernon "Boots" and Imogene (Cahalan) Larson. She graduated from Newman High School, and later graduated from Hamilton Business College.

In 1972, she married Thomas Bahnsen at Mason City.

She was employed by Aco Durafarm and was a realtor for the Busch Agency.

Jane loved to be outdoors and loved boating. She also enjoyed shopping and decorating.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, the Clear Lake Yacht Club, and the Mason City and Clear Lake Chambers of Commerce.

Survivors include her children, Katie (Bahnsen) Grant, Michael Bahnsen, Bridget Bahnsen, and Shannon Bahnsen, all of Mason City; two grandchildren, Samantha and Jayme Grant; her parents, Vernon "Boots" and Imogene Larson, Mason City; six siblings, Jeanne Lessor, Mason City, Tom Larson and his wife, Laura, Westminster, Colo., Tim Larson, Dublin, Calif., Mary Beth Nelson and her husband, Don, Mason City, Dr. Sue Sumners and her husband, Tom, Lakewood, Colo., and Janice Barnes and her husband, Jeff, Lakewood, Colo.; many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew and cousins; and a special friend, John Busch, Clear Lake.

She was preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents.

** LaVone M. Jensen

HAMPTON — LaVone M. Jensen, 76, of Hampton, died Monday (May 25, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Jon Anderson, officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

LaVone M. Jensen was born March 28, 1922, in Franklin County.

Survivors include her husband, Verner Jensen, of Hampton; two sons, Kenneth Chris Jensen and Gerold LeRoy Jensen, both of Iowa Falls; one daughter, Joyce Elaine Early, Hampton; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one son, and one brother.

** Mollie Sorenson

HOLIDAY SPRINGS, Ark. — Mollie Sorenson, 78, of Holiday Island, Ark., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at Washington Regional Medical Center, Fayetteville, Ark.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. today at Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.

Carmella "Mollie" Sorenson was born Oct. 23, 1919, the daughter of Antonio and Marietta (Marrone) Napoletano. She graduated from Rock Falls High School.

She married Erdix Swift Jr. Later, she married Marion C. Sorenson in 1954.

Molly was very accomplished at needlework. She also enjoyed golf and bridge.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, Mason City, a past member of the Mason City Country Club, women's chorus in Eureka Springs and a member of the Holiday Island Golf and Country Club.

Survivors include two sons, Edson Erdix Swift and his wife, Phyllis, Proctorville, Ohio; and Donald C. Sorenson and his wife, Linda, Carol Stream, Ill.; five grandchildren, Stephanie Swift Minderhaud, Jeffrey Swift, Ryan Swift, Eric Sorenson and Mathew Sorenson; two brothers, Luigi Napoletano and his wife, Dorothy, Mason City; Carmen Napeltane and his wife, Lorene, Chula Vista, Calif.; two sisters, Lilly Brown, Mason City and Rose Kendrick, Houston, Texas; and many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Charles Swift and his wife, Joyce, Mason City, Iowa and Bob Burns, her close friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, one daughter, Katherine Swift; and one brother, Samuel Napoletano.

** Robert Albrecht

NEW HAMPTON — Robert Albrecht, 56, of Clear Lake, formerly of New Hampton, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) at Muse Norris Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton. Burial will be in the New Hampton City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert was born June 15, 1941 in New Hampton.

Survivors include two brothers, the Rev. John Albrecht, of Rockford, and Ted Albrecht, of Van Meter; and one sister, Ruth Moeller, of Waverly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother.

MESA, Ariz. — Henry R. "Hank" Giesman, 61, of 8218 E. Neville, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Mason City, died Monday (May 25, 1998) at home.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Mountain View Memorial Gardens, Mesa.

** James W. Mars

ROCKFORD — Committal services for James W. Mars, 72, of Rockford, will be held at 11:30 a.m. today at Riverside Cemetery, Rockford, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank of the Rockford United Methodist Church officiating. He died Dec. 6.

The Schumburg Funeral Home, Rockford, is in charge of arrangements.

BANCROFT — Ervin Ulses, 93, of Bancroft, died Tuesday (May 26, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft, where other arrangements are incomplete.

** Stephen Max Biddick

MASON CITY — Stephen Max Biddick, 50, of Mason City, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at the Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Steve Hollingsworth of First Baptist Church in Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today and one hour prior to service time Thursday at the chapel.

Stephen Max Biddick was born on July 8, 1947, in Charles City, the son of Franklin and Geraldine (Townsend) Biddick.

He received his education in the Mason City school system and also graduated from North Iowa Area Community College with a degree in horticulture.

After completing his schooling, he worked for Hebel Floral & Gifts in Mason City for a short time.

He was united in marriage to Marva Helland on Sept. 26, 1969, in Mason City.

He enjoyed music, the outdoors, reading, was a people person and loved life and his dog, "Oddie," but his great love and enjoyment was his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Marva Biddick of Mason City; two sons, Shane and Aaron Biddick, of Mason City; one daughter, Jesslyn Jones and her husband, Chad, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; one brother, Chuck Percy and his wife, Linda, of Sheffield; and two sisters, Sheila McNealy and her husband, Gerald, of Dumont, and Connie Bockoven and her husband, Ken, of Mason City; and his dog, Oddie.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy.

** Helen A. Gilmore

HAMPTON — Helen A. Gilmore, 90, of Hampton, died Saturday (May 16, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital.

Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hampton with the Rev. Jon Anderson and the Rev. Steven Swanson officiating. Burial will take place during a private service at the Hampton Cemetery.

The family prefers that memorial contributions be made to the American Heart Association.

Hogan-Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Helen A. Gilmore was born on Jan. 15, 1908, in Bixby, Minn.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Beverly Larson of Hampton; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one sister and one brother.

** Beatrice D. Klipping Horecka

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Beatrice D. Klipping Horecka, 70, 25376 Los Flores Drive, San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of the Garner, Iowa area, passed away Tuesday (May 26, 1998) at the Riverside Hospital, following a long illness.

Her body will be cremated and services will be held in California.

Beatrice D. Klipping Horecka was born Feb. 23, 1928 in Winnebago County to Lenard Klipping and Pearl Jacobson.

She received her education in Britt, Iowa. She worked as a waitress in Garner, Iowa for many years.

She was united in marriage to Eugene C. Horecka on Aug. 9, 1951. They had three sons from this marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Horecka, of San Bernardino, Calif.; two sons, Donold Horecka and his wife, Tammy, of San Bernardino, Calif.; and Harry Horecka, of Mason City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Raymond Klipping, of Mason City; Orville Klipping, of Mason City; Mary Church, of Forest City; Helen Hill, of Waterloo, Iowa; Pearl Eliason, of Waterloo, Iowa; Geraldine Andries and her husband, Charlie, of Altoona, Iowa; Marvin Klipping and his wife, Reta, of Britt, Iowa; and Joanne Symes and her husband, Melvin, of Mason City; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jeffery Horecka on Sept. 26, 1986; her parents; grandparents; four brothers; one niece; and two nephews.

** Cecil Coe

NORTH BRANCH, Minn. — Cecil Coe, 72, of 8344 285th Ave. N.E., North Branch, Minn., formerly of Ventura, Iowa, died Sunday (May 24, 1998) in Canada.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, North Branch, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the North Branch Chapel of the Grandstrand Funeral Home, 412 Main, North Branch, Minn. and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the Church.

Cecil was born on Aug. 17, 1925, the son of Wilbur and Blanche (Porter) Coe, on the family farm. He later married Irene Sands.

Longtime resident of North Branch, formerly of Ventura, Iowa, Cecil worked for Northern Natural Gas in Ventura for many years before being transferred to North Branch.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a charter member of the Ventura Gun Club and enjoyed trapshooting.

Cecil will be sadly missed by his wife, Irene; three sons, Doug and his wife, Laurie; Dave and his wife, Sue; and Randy and his wife, Dana; one daughter, Laurie and her husband, Steve; one sister, Cleo Overgaard; brother, Forrest and his wife, Ginny; and brother, Larry and his wife, Jane, all of Ventura; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Kenny and Ted; and one sister, Joy.

FOREST CITY — Vivian Hanna, 74, of Forest City, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at her daughter's home in Forest City.

VENTURA — Carolyn K. Peterson, 47, of Ventura, died Tuesday (May 26, 1998) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Francs Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with Father Jack Paisley, officiating. Burial will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday at Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond, with a parish rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m. with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka from St. Patrick Parish in Clear Lake, officiating. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

MESA, Ariz. — Henry R. "Hank" Giesman, 61, of 8218 E. Neville, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Monday (May 25, 1998) at home.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, June 1, 1998, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

BANCROFT — Ervin Ulses, 93, of Bancroft, died Tuesday (May 26, 1998) at Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Catholic Church, Bancroft, with the Rev. Eugene Ulses, officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home with a 3 p.m. rosary and a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Ervin was born on March 8, 1905 at Colony, Kan.

Survivors include four sons, Thomas Ulses, of Bancroft; Roger Ulses, of Fenton; the Rev. Eugene Ulses, of Humboldt; and Paul Ulses, of Joice; and one daughter, Rosemary Zaugg, of Fort Worth, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Kathryn Ulses and Pauline Ulses, both of Westphalia, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, one son, two brothers, and one sister.

** Pearl L. Krager

MASON CITY — Pearl L. Krager, 96, of 4 Third St. N.W., died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

** John R. Schmidt

MESERVEY — John R. Schmidt, 102, of Meservey, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at the Sheffield Care Center, Sheffield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester, officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.

John R. Schmidt was born on Sept. 27, 1895 to Roelf and Altje (Pals) Schmidt on a farm near Palsville in Pleasant Township, Wright County, Iowa. He received his education in the rural schools in Wright County.

On June 21, 1918, he married Tena Ostendorf of Alexander. To this union were born five children: Ralph, Esther, Arlene, Frances and Loraine.

John farmed for 27 years and moved to Meservey in 1946 where he engaged in selling seed corn and other farm seeds.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Meservey and served on the school board.

He is survived by three daughters, Arlene Kaldenberg, of Denver, Colo., Frances Groen, of Meservey, Iowa, and Loraine Bertilson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, four sisters, one son, and one granddaughter.

** Shirley Wilhite

MASON CITY — Shirley Wilhite, 69, of 643 S. Louisiana Ave., Mason City, died Saturday (May 23, 1998) at St. Marys Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

There will be no visitation as her body was cremated.

Shirley was born March 15, 1929 in Mason City, Iowa to Arthur and Nellie Milbrath.

She graduated from Mason City High School and went on to beauty school at La'James College of Hairstyling and Cosmetology and worked as a beauty operator for many years in Mason City.

She married Dale Wilhite in Mason City and lived all her life here.

She is survived by her husband, Dale, of Mason City; her mother, Nellie, of Mason City; one sister, Audrey and her husband, Robert Olson, of Tucson, Ariz.; two brothers, Larry Milbrath, and David and his wife, Marge Milbrath, all of Mason City, Iowa; one sister-in-law, Margaret Milbrath, of Hampton, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur, of Mason City; and one brother, Dick Milbrath, of Hampton.

** Earl A. Frost

NASHUA — Earl A. Frost, 64, of Nashua, passed away Tuesday morning (May 26, 1998) at the Waverly Hospital as a result of a farm accident in rural Butler County.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. John Lutheran Church, Nashua, with Pastor David Kramer officiating. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Nashua.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Chenoweth & Son Funeral Home, 319 Main St., Nashua, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Earl was born March 15, 1934, on the home farm east of Nashua, the son of Dale and Myrtie (Stieger) Frost.

Earl attended country schools and Nashua High School. He served his country from 1955 to 1957 in the U.S. Navy.

Except for his two years in the service, Earl lived on the "Century" family farm all of his life. The home farm became a "Century" farm in 1996.

Earl married Shirley Muhlstein on March 16, 1959, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Rockwell, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Alan, Cindy, Julie and Jodi.

Earl and Shirley farmed for many years and he worked part time at Key City Trucking for six years. He started driving semi trucks in 1975.

Earl was a baptized and confirmed member of St. John Lutheran Church and the Luther League in Nashua.

Earl enjoyed camping and traveling with his family. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.

Earl is survived by his wife, Shirley; his four children and their spouses, Alan and Phyllis Frost, of Plainfield; Cindy Frost, of Marengo; Julie and Steve Hurd, of Nashua; and Jodi Wedeking, of Nashua; six grandchildren, Jami and Jacob Frost, Danielle, Dakota and Jesse Hurd, and Mark Wedeking.

Earl was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Melvin.

** Loren E. 'Murph' Murphy

MASON CITY — Loren E. "Murph" Murphy, 74, of 216 15th N.E., died Tuesday night (May 26, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

** Vivian Hanna

FOREST CITY — Vivian Hanna, 74, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at her home in Forest City.

Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Forest City, with the Rev. Lee Laaveg officiating. Inurnment will take place at Grant Township Cemetery in rural Woden.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

Vivian Mae Dahlby Hanna was born n Bristol Township, Worth County, on Sept. 16, 1923, the daughter of Peter A. And Marie (Treslan) Dahlby.

She attended country school and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1941.

She married Harold E. Hanna on Oct. 4, 1942, at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. The couple farmed 14 miles west of Forest City until 1969 when Harold was killed in an auto accident. Vivian continued living in the Forest City area, helping her children in their various business ventures.

She was married to Arthur Cepeda at the Little Brown Church in Nashua on June 14, 1974. The couple lived for many years in Mt. Home, Ariz. Arthur died in 1986.

Vivian was a creative person who loved doing arts and crafts. She volunteered her time for many worthy causes. She enjoyed nature and her flowers.

She is survived by a daughter, Janeane P. Lambert, Forest City; four sons, Steven E. Hanna, Crystal Lake, Vance H. Hanna, Harrison, Ariz., Keith P. Hanna, Dundas, Minn., and Gerald R. MESERVEY — John R. Schmidt, 102, of Meservey, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at the Sheffield Care Center, Sheffield.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Reformed Church, Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester, officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Meservey.

John R. Schmidt was born on Sept. 27, 1895 to Roelf and Altje (Pals) Schmidt on a farm near Palsville in Pleasant Township, Wright County, Iowa. He received his education in the rural schools in Wright County.

On June 21, 1918, he married Tena Ostendorf of Alexander. To this union were born five children: Ralph, Esther, Arlene, Frances and Loraine.

John farmed for 27 years and moved to Meservey in 1946 where he engaged in selling seed corn and other farm seeds.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Meservey and served on the school board.

He is survived by three daughters, Arlene Kaldenberg, of Denver, Colo., Frances Groen, of Meservey, Iowa, and Loraine Bertilson, of Phoenix, Ariz.; 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, three brothers, four sisters, one son, one daughter, and one granddaughter.

CLEAR LAKE — Dr. Milton LeRoy Knutson, 85, of 2207 North Shore Drive, died Friday, (May 1, 1998), at his home.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with Rev. Thomas Healey officiating. The body was cremated and inurnment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, is in charge of the services.

Milton LeRoy Knutson was born Sept. 20, 1912, in Leola, S.D.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, with the Rev. Jack Paisley officiating. Interment will take place at St. Francis Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, Belmond. A parish rosary will begin at 3:30 p.m. and a wake service at 8 p.m. The Monsignor Joseph Slepicka from St. Patrick parish, Clear Lake, will officiate at the wake service. Visitation will continue at the church one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday.

Carolyn K. Peterson was born Oct. 28, 1950, in Belmond, the daughter of James T. and June (Lester) McLaughlin. She attended school in Belmond and graduated from Belmond High School in 1968. Carolyn then attended Weaver Airline School, Kansas City, Kan.

After completing airline school, she was employed by Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City. She married Richard Stadtlander in 1975.

On June 4, 1983, Carolyn married Robert Peterson at Las Vegas, Nev. They lived in Tulsa, Okla., until they retired from the telephone company. After they retired, the couple spent the winter months in Park City, Utah, and Lake Havasu City, Ariz. They spent the summer months in Ventura, Iowa.

Carolyn is survived by her husband, Robert, of Ventura; mother, June McLaughlin, of Belmond; one brother, Phillip McLaughlin and his wife, Nancy, of Thornton; three sisters, Marty Taylor and her husband, Charles, of Clear Lake, LD McLaughlin, of Clear Lake, and Kathy Hunt and her husband, Brian, of Colo; one niece; four nephews; one great niece; one great nephew; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, James McLaughlin in 1992.

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. — Beatrice D. Klipping Horecka, 70, 25376 Los Flores Drive, San Bernardino, Calif., formerly of the Garner, Iowa area, passed away Tuesday (May 26, 1998) at the Riverside Hospital, following a long illness.

Her body will be cremated and services will be held in California.

Beatrice D. Klipping Horecka was born Feb. 23, 1928 in Winnebago County to Leonard Klipping and Edna Jacobson.

She received her education in Britt, Iowa. She worked as a waitress in Garner, Iowa, for many years.

She was united in marriage to Eugene C. Horecka on Aug. 9, 1951. They had three sons from this marriage.

Survivors include her husband, Eugene Horecka, of San Bernardino, Calif.; two sons, Donold Horecka and his wife, Tammy, of San Bernardino, Calif.; and Harry Horecka, of Mason City, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; three brothers and five sisters, Raymond Klipping, of Mason City; Orville Klipping, of Mason City; Mary Church, of Forest City; Helen Hill, of Waterloo, Iowa; Pearl Eliason, of Waterloo, Iowa; Geraldine Andries and her husband, Charlie, of Altoona, Iowa; Marvin Klipping and his wife, Reta, of Britt, Iowa; and Joanne Symes and her husband, Melvin, of Mason City; several nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her youngest son, Jeffery Horecka on Sept. 26, 1986; her parents; grandparents; four brothers; one niece; and two nephews.

MASA, Ariz. — Henry R. "Hank" Giesman, 61, of 8218 E. Neville, Mesa, Ariz., formerly of Mason City, Iowa, died Monday (May 25, 1998) at home.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Nils C. "Chris" Hellevik officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Henry was born Nov. 17, 1936, in Beatrice, Neb., the son of William and Grace Giesman. He graduated from Beatrice High School in 1954 and went to Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa, where he played football and studied physical education and biology.

After serving in the U.S. Army from 1956 to 1959, Henry graduated from college in 1961. From 1961-67, Henry taught physical education and biology and was the head football coach at Nora Springs High School. After receiving his master's degree in biology from Humboldt State College in California in 1966, he taught at North Iowa Area Community College, Mason City, from 1967 to 1996.

In 1965 Henry married Marilyn Roland Wiechelman of Beatrice and adopted her two children, Mary Lynn and Paul Dennis. After Marilyn's death, Henry married Muriel Mays of Clear Lake in 1980. After retiring in 1996,Henry and Muriel moved to Mesa, Ariz. where he enjoyed golfing, hiking and the fellowship of friends.

Henry was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Mesa, Ariz., Trinity Lutheran Church, Mason City, and Rock Sirius Masonic Lodge #294, Nora Springs.

Henry is survived by his wife, Muriel, Mesa Ariz.; his children, Mary Heitz of Marengo, Iowa, Linda Nuehring of Mason City, Paul Giesman of Renton, Wash., Lance Mays of Hillsboro, Calif.; a sister, Elaine Grant of Edmonton, Canada; eight grandchildren, Kija and Miciah Heintz, Andrew and James Giesman, Amanda Mays, and Stefanie, Ashley and Katrina Nuehring.

She then moved to Mason City where she was employed in the canning department at J.B. Decker and Sons and Armour Foods.

She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Esther Circle and the United Packing House Workers of America. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and attending her weekly Bible meetings. She was a great mother and grandmother.

Elizabeth is survived by her son, the Rev. David Lenhart, Mason City, two grandchildren, Kristie and her husband, Rob Doebel, Nora Springs, and Michael Lenhart, Clear Lake; one great grandson Brennan Doebel; two brothers , Charles and his wife, Barbara, Lenhart, Clear Lake, and Arthur Lenhart, Denver, Colo.

She married Arthur Krager July, 12, 1922, in Minneapolis, Minn. The Kragers moved to Mason City in 1924 where Mr. Krager signed a contract to teach school. The Kragers owned a resort in Wisconsin from 1945 to 1965.

Mr. Krager died in 1964 and following his death Pearl became involved in numerous civic affairs. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where she was an ordained Elder, charter member of the Faculty Wives Club which was organized in 1928, Chapter B. S. of TTT, Chapter KX of PEO, Sorosis Study Club, and Artists League. She worked on the Y. W.C.A. board for several years.

Pearl was most proud of her hobby, painting. In the 1970s she displayed her work at the Mason City Public Library. Pearl was also able to travel to Europe extensively.

She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Krager, Mason City; a son, William Robarge Krager, and his wife, Jo, Anchorage, Alaska; one grandchild, Sue Krager, Missoula, Mont., and one great-grandchild, Brian Krager, Missoula, Mont.

CARSON CITY, Nev. — Gerald D. Etchison Sr., 68, of Carson City, died Wednesday (May 27, 1998) at Carson-Tahoe Hospital, Carson City, Nev.

Gerald D. Etchison Sr. was born Feb. 12, 1930 in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Vernon D. and Mary Louise (Leasure) Etchison.

He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He was a former resident of Mason City, Iowa and Nora Springs, Iowa.

He moved to Carson City, Nev. from Monterey, Calif. He worked for several builders in the Carson area for 27 years. He built custom homes in the Reno area with Armin Richter & Associates.

He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Gardnerville, Nev. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed many hours of sports with his best friend, Bill Etchison. He coached the prison-sponsored softball team.

He is survived by his companion, Karen Payne, of Carson City, Nev.; three sons, Gerald D. Etchison Jr. and William D. Etchison, both of Carson City, Nev., and Floyd Scott Etchison, of Stagecoach, Nev.; two daughters, Dawn L. Etchison, of Carson City, Nev., and Lynn D. Etchison, of Moundhouse, Nev.; one sister, Betty Sudol, of Lucerne, Calif.; and one brother, Frank Etchison, of Groveland, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

MASON CITY — Jack Junior Redeker, 67, of 631 Sixth St. S.W., died Thursday (May 28, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Herbert Shafer of Grace United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today and again on Monday until the time of the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be directed to the Jack Redeker Memorial Fund at 5 S. Vermont Ave..

Jack was born June 19, 1930, in Mason City, the son of John William and Katherina (Scheef) Redeker.

Jack was a lifelong resident of Mason City where he was a self-employed truck driver. He retired in 1992.

Jack was a member of Teamsters Local 828 and Grace United Methodist Church.

Jack is survived by his children, Jackie Stiles, and her husband, Mike, of Rudd, John Redeker, of Des Moines, Jean Creekmur, and her husband, Mark, of Marshalltown, and Julie Terlisner, and her husband, Kim, of Mason City; a step-daughter, Chris Gleason, and her husband, Dave, of Mason City; grandchildren, Joe Peters, Matt and Allison Stiles, of Rudd, J. R. Redeker, of Des Moines, Mark Creekmur Jr., and his wife, Jennifer, of Tulsa, Okla., Jaime Creekmur, of Marshalltown, Shawn and Chris McKibben, and Joe Terlisner, all of Mason City; step-grandchildren, Crystal and Savannah Gleason; one great-grandson, Chanse Creekmur, of Tulsa, Okla.; two sisters, Arlene Abbott of Maquoketa, and Wilma Grove of California; his former wife, Pat Redeker, of Mason City; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents and special cousin, Don Redeker.

** Loren E. "Murph" Murphy

MASON CITY — Loren E. "Murph" Murphy, 74, of 216 15th St. N.E., died Tuesday night (May 26, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. George Johnson officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral chapel.

Those who wish may direct their expression of sympathy to the Loren Murphy memorial.

Loren was born on Feb. 12, 1924, the son of Merle and Marian (Stearn) Murphy at Greene.

He graduated from Aredale schools and then farmed with his grandfather until entering the Marine Corps. He honorably served his country from 1943 until his discharge in 1946.

He was united in marriage to Beverly J. Lamb on Nov. 29, 1969, in Mason City. He worked for Rath, Armour and Farmstead meat packing plants. Thirty-three years ago, he owned and operated a grocery store in Portland for three years.

He retired in 1986 and spent his spare time buying and selling horses and attending sales. He always said he was the last of the honest horse traders. His favorite times were spent on family vacations which he looked forward to. He was a resident of Mason City for more than 40 years.

Loren is survived by his wife, Beverly, Mason City; two daughters, Loree, and her husband, Jon Mitchell, Manly, and Lisa Schaer, Mason City; three sons, Jerry Lewis, and his wife, Linda Murphy, Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., Lowell, and his wife, Vicky Murphy, Mason City, and Charles Murphy, Pekin, Ill; two step-daughters, Linda Westendorf, and Diana and her husband, Robert Hampton; three step-sons, James, Joe and Michael Fransen, all of Mason City; two sisters, Betsy and her husband, David Palston, Waterloo, and Barbara Huhn, Waterloo; 23 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Merle and Marian, and his step-father, Lestor Richard; one sister, Ethel Allen; and three step-grandsons, Randy Tuttle, Donald Westendorf, Jr. and Cody Fransen.
