** Ada Myrl Kaiser

ROCKWELL — Ada Myrl Kaiser, 101, a longtime piano teacher in Rockwell, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at the Westview Care Center in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, at Rockwell United Methodist Church with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 120 S. Third St., Rockwell.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Ada Kaiser Memorial Fund.

Ada was born March 16, 1897, the daughter of Charles and Susan (Davis) Richey in Dayton, Iowa. After being united in marriage to Jacob Kaiser, the couple later moved to the Rockwell area.

Ada was always very involved with her church and did whatever needed to be done. At the age of 87, she was still teaching piano to 17 students. Ada's life revolved around the piano. When she was in the nursing home, she would play for the other residents.

She was past president of the Rockwell American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the P.E.O. Ada was also a member of the Rockwell United Methodist Church.

She enjoyed planting and working with her flower beds. Her true passion was the piano whether she was playing or teaching.

Ada is survived by one sister, Harriett Davidson; one niece, Susan Richey; two nephews, Robert and Dale Richey; nine great-nieces and great-nephews; and three great-great-nephews.

Mrs. Kaiser was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jacob; one brother, Donald Richey; and one nephew, Paul Richey.

** John W. Evans

MASON CITY — John W. Evans, 84, of 8 Old Farm Road, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 100 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Robert Towner officiating. Private interment will be held at a later date in Ames, Iowa.

There will be no visitation. Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the John W. Evans Memorial Fund.

John was born Sept. 12, 1913, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of John and Charlotte (Bedell) Evans. He graduated from Fort Dodge High School and attended the University of Iowa. John finished his college education at Iowa State University.

John served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II. He married his beloved wife, Marjorie Howard, on March 16, 1941, in Ames.

John was president and owner of Cashway Lumber Stores in Iowa. He served on the board of several Iowa Banks, was past-president of the Iowa Lumberman’s Association and Northwestern Lumberman’s Association.

John was past-president of Rotary and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was also chairman of the advisory board for Hauschild Insurance Co., Minneapolis, and a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church.

His survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of Mason City; daughters, Mary Provost, of Tucson, Ariz., Nancy Evans, of Tucson, Ariz., Katie Evans, of San Antonio, Texas, and Elizabeth Evans Reitz, of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Helen Reuter, of Fort Dodge, Iowa; and five grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Elizabeth Beamer.

** Thomas Harlan Lovik

LAKE MILLS — Thomas Harlan Lovik, 60, of Lake Mills, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at his home in Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Winnebago Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Bill Peters officiating. Interment will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Thomas Harlan Lovik, son of Thomas and Ruth (Brue) Lovik, was born Nov. 2, 1937, in rural Lake Mills.

He was baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church and went to country school. He graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1955.

Harlan was a lifetime member of the Winnebago Lutheran Church. On Feb. 20, 1960, he married Betty Larson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville.

He worked at the Lake Mills Creamery and worked as a supervisor at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 28 years.

He enjoyed camping, fishing and cooking out with his family and friends.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Beverly; his children, Sheila and her husband, Dan Colby, of Lake Mills; Kathy and her husband, Kevin Nelson, of Lake Mills; Brad and his wife, Tracy Lovik, of Lakewood, Calif., Dr. Brenda Lovik and her fiance, Richard McCardle, of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Kelly Nelson, Kasey Nelson, Kayla Nelson, Laura Colby, Joshua Colby and Steven Colby; one sister, Marlene and her husband, Alroy Krull, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; and several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Eldon and Verne; and one daughter, Kimberly Sue, in infancy.

** Everett St. John

ALGONA — Everett "Smoky" St. John, 69, of Algona, died Wednesday (April 8, 1998) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona, with the Rev. Philip Webb officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with graveside military rites by the American Legion Hagg-Turner Post No. 90 and V.F.W. Post No. 2541, of Algona.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

Everett St. John was born Sept. 1, 1928, in Algona.

He is survived by two daughters, Debra Gatton, of Algona, and Linda Parcell, of Minneapolis, Minn.; two sons, Jon St. John, of Spring Valley, Calif., and Robert St. John, of New Richmond, Wis.; eight grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Wilfred St. John, of Evans, Colo., and Durwood St. John, of Algona; and three sisters, Marian Sutphin, of Newton, Marlene Kinsey, of Ohio, and Beverly Schuller, of Mora, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and two sons.

** Clement Michael Stripling

LUVERNE — Clement Michael "Clem" Stripling, 70, of LuVerne, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in LuVerne, with the Rev. Bruce Boyce officiating. Interment will be in the LuVerne Cemetery, with military graveside services conducted by Ernest Merkle American Legion Post No. 664 of LuVerne.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in LuVerne.

Clement Michael Stripling was born on Oct. 11, 1927, in Algona.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret, of LuVerne; his children, Craig Stripling, of Clare, Kerry Stripling, of Duluth, Minn. and Jennifer Stripling, LuVerne; five grandchildren; his mother, Jessie Stripling, LuVerne; four sisters, Norma Kassel, Grand Meadow, Minn., Sandra Agee, Lincoln, Neb., Becky Tobey, Readlyn, and Marcia Arends, LuVerne.

He was preceded in death by his father and one sister.

** Doris J. Swanson

HAMPTON — Doris J. Swanson, 85, of Hampton, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Memorial services will be held at a later date at the Lost Grove Cemetery in Gowrie.

Inurnment will be in Lost Grove Cemetery in Gowrie.

There will be no visitation. Sietsema Vogel Funeral Home of Hampton is in charge of arrangements.

Doris J. Swanson was born June 16, 1912, in Franhamville.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Meyer, of Hampton; and one son, Darrell Swanson, also of Hampton; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one sister.

** Naaman W. Seefeld

GARNER — Naaman W. Seefeld, 84, of Garner, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Woden Christian Reformed Church, with the Rev. Wm. Culbertson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery in Woden.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Naaman W. Seefeld was born Aug. 11, 1913, in Burt.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Hayward, Avon, S.D., Marilyn Coon, Renwick, and Carol Dolphin, Garner; one son, Roger Seefeld, Wesley; 13 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Seefeld, Britt; and one brother, Leander Seefeld, Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers and three sisters.

OSAGE — Robert C. Scharper, 76, of Osage, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Champion Funeral Home in Osage.

MASON CITY — Sharon Kay (Burtness) Watley, 51, of Des Moines, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at the Broadlawns Memorial Hospital in Des Moines.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly.

** Mildred R. Keifer

MARBLE ROCK — Mildred R. Keifer, 92, of 102 Iowa St., Marble Rock, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Marble Rock, with the Rev. Rosemary Rohde-Frank officiating. Burial will be in the Westside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, with a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service. Visitation will continue on Monday one hour prior to services.

Mildred R. Keifer was born on July 2, 1905, in rural Union Township, Floyd County.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy Petit, of Garnett, Kan., and Barbara Rumsey, of Dodge City, Kan.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lola Mae Powell, of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, eight sisters and one sister who died in infancy.

MASON CITY — Stephen P. Kowny, 85, of 1536 N. President Ave., died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Valley Baptist Health Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W., with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City.

Stephen was born Jan. 8, 1913, in Oromrod, Pa.

Survivors include his wife, Winona, of Mason City; one daughter, Darlene Hansen, of Mason City; one son, Stephen P. Kowny Jr., of Seaside Calif.; two sisters, Annie Cimijotti, of Reno, Nev., and Julia Bysong, of Durand, Wis.; six grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

** Faith M. Ward

CHARLES CITY — Faith M. Ward, 58, of Nashua, died Saturday (April 11, 1998) at Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Nashua, with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will take place at the Oak Wood Cemetery in Nashua.

The family will receive friends from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City.

Faith was born March 4, 1940, at Hampton.

She is survived by her husband, Don (Pretz) Ward, Nashua, her children, Rae Jean Smith, of Plattsmouth, Neb., Dale H. Kruse, of Stacyville, Kathy F. Lund, of Waverly, Michael F. Kruse, of Waterloo, and Darren L. Kruse, of Riceville; stepchildren, Daniel H. Ward, of Oregon, and Duane A. Ward, of Kansas; her father, Henry Tjebkes, of Allison; her sister, Zelda Kellum, of Waverly; two stepbrothers, Duane Wubbena, of Dumont, and Darwin Wubbena, of Allison; a stepsister Myrna Prange, of Des Moines, and 18 grandchildren.

** John Odell Field

OSAGE — John Odell Field, 86, of Osage and San Jacinto, Calif., died Wednesday (April 8, 1998) at Hemet Valley Medical Center in Hemet, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with the Rev. Philip Luttio officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Birkedal and the Rev. Paul Anderson. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion Funeral Home in Osage, with family time at 7 p.m.

A memorial service will be held in San Jacinto, Calif., at a later date.

John Odell Field was born Sept. 25, 1911, on the family farm in West Cedar Township in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Caroline (Olson) Field.

John was baptized as an infant and confirmed in 1925 by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at Rock Creek Lutheran Church.

He attended Cedar No. 5, known as the Field School, and was graduated from Osage High School in 1930. After working a couple of years on the farm for his uncles, Martin and Peter Field, he joined his father and brother-in-law in the Field and Christiansen partnership until his father's death in 1953.

John was a life-long farmer, the oldest in the area. His motto was "The less you do, the less you are able to do." Due to medical problems, he was assisted by Calvin Thompson for nearly the past 25 years.

In February 1942, John, about to be drafted in World War II, enlisted in the Coast Guard. He was based in New Orleans, La., and Galveston, Texas, until his discharge in the fall of 1945.

John was married to Marie Birkedal on Jan. 28, 1942, at Rock Creek Lutheran Church by the Rev. C. B. Gunderson. He was a life-long, active member of Rock Creek Lutheran Church and its organizations. He also belonged to the Farm Bureau, American Legion, Sons of Norway and a photography club. He had a wide variety of interests—music, reading, fishing, boating, sports and developing his own pictures.

He especially enjoyed traveling. With his wife, Marie, he drove through all 50 states, all the Canadian provinces, Mexico, Germany and Scandinavia. They also traveled in England, Japan and Korea. Many of these trips were happy times with the family.

Survivors include his wife, Marie, of Osage and San Jacinto; three daughters, Carolyn Cassidy, and her husband, Richard, of Logansport, Ind., Geraldine Keeling, of San Gabriel, Calif., and Joanne Field, of Topeka, Kan.; one son, Donald Field, of Topeka, Kan.; and two grandsons, Brendon Cassidy, of Canyon Country, Calif., and Michael Cassidy, of Normal, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Ina Christiansen.

** Sally A. Burdick

CLEAR LAKE — Sally A. Burdick, 94, died Saturday (April 11, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Memorial arrangements are incomplete at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel in Clear Lake.

LATIMER — William Peter Gauger, 48, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Memorial services are pending at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

** Stephen P. Kowny

MASON CITY — Stephen P. Kowny, 85, formerly of 1536 N. President Ave., died Tuesday (April 7, 1998) at the Valley Baptist Health Center in Harlingen, Texas.

Stephen was born Jan. 8, 1913, the son of Theodore and Tessie (Szczerbata) Kowny in Oromrod, Pa. When Stephen was a young boy, his family moved to Mason City where they have resided ever since.

On Dec. 25, l933, Stephen was united in marriage to Winona May Brooks in Mason City.

In 1937, Stephen became a member of Grace United Methodist Church and has been a faithful attendant ever since.

Stephen was one of the first 10 softball players to be inducted in the Mason City Softball Hall of Fame. Stephen and Winona loved to travel especially to the West Coast. In recent years, they have enjoyed wintering in Harlingen, Texas.

Stephen worked at Lehigh Portland Cement Plant for 42 ½ years. During that time, he was involved with all aspects of the facility. He was a member of Local Union 106 at Lehigh.

Mr. Kowny had a love for gardening, but truly his valued time was spent with his family.

Those thankful for having shared his life include his wife, Winona, of Mason City; one daughter, Darlene, and her husband, James Hansen, of Mason City; one son, Stephen Jr., and his wife, Hilda, of Seaside, Calif.; two sisters, Annie Cimijotti, of Reno, Nev., and Julia Bysong, of Durand, Wis.; six grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.

Stephen was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Mary Kowny and Nellie Belseth; and one brother, Michael Kowny.

** Sharon Kay (Burtness) Watley

DES MOINES — Sharon Kay Watley, 51, of Des Moines, formerly of Mason City, died Thursday (April 9, 1998) at the Broadlawns Memorial Hospital in Des Moines.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City officiating. Inurnment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Friends may call one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Bride Colonial Chapel.

Sharon Kay (Burtness) Watley was born on Dec. 28, 1946, in Mason City, the daughter of Gerald and Anna (Jenkins) Burtness. She was baptized and reaffirmed in the faith of her baptism through confirmation at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

She received her education in Mason City schools before moving to Des Moines where she worked at Vets Auditorium for more than 25 years. She also worked as a cashier and clerk for Kohls Department Store in Des Moines.

She was an avid bingo player.

She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Sharon is survived by two sisters, Betty Covert, Cyress, Calif., and Marsha Songer, and her husband, Danny, Laverne, Calif.; one brother, Curtis Burtness, and his wife Joan, Manly; and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

** Mildred R. Keifer

MARBLE ROCK — Mildred R. Keifer, 92, of 102 Iowa St., Marble Rock, died Friday (April 10, 1998) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Mildred R. Keifer was born on July 2, 1905, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, the daughter of William and Mary (Peddycoart) Crosby.

Mildred received her education in the rural schools near Greene, and as a young lady worked as a housekeeper for families in the Greene area.

She was united in marriage to George Bernard Keifer on Dec. 23, l936, in Minnesota. They farmed in the rural Marble Rock area for more than forty years, retiring in 1978 when they moved to Marble Rock.

Following George's death on June 18, 1989, Mildred continued to make her home in Marble Rock until entering the Chautauqua Guest Home in January 1996.

Mildred will be remembered for her homemade bread, gardening, bingo and playing cards. She also enjoyed fishing and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include two daughters, Peggy and Jim Petit, of Garnett, Kan., and Barbara and Wayne Rumsey, of Dodge City, Kan.; four grandchildren, Debbie Bean, Vicki King, Michael Ackley, and Chad Ackley; six greatgrandchildren, Sandy Coleman, Kevin Bean, Jeremiah Miller, Heather Miller, Cole Ackley, and Hagan Ackley; and two great-great-grandchildren, Aubury and Zabrian Coleman; and one sister, Lola Mae Powell, of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one grandson, Randy Innes; her parents; and eight sisters, Ethel Albrecht Worley, Goldie Keifer, Gladys Uker, Opal Harrold, Thelma Harrold, Dolly and Anna Mae Crosby, and one sister who died in infancy.

Jessie G. Kercheff was born Feb. 10, l926, the daughter of Steve S. and Dora (Redington) Kercheff in Mason City.

Jessie attended Mason City schools and then worked for Armour for more than 35 years, retiring due to ill health.

Jessie was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Moose Lodge. She enjoyed her family, shopping and going on bus trips with her friends.

She is survived by one sister, Fern Anna Jeffrey, Charles City; two nephews, David Jeffrey and his wife, Sheryl, Floyd, and Dan and his wife, Karen, Kansas City, Mo.; three great-nieces, Melissa McCoy and her husband, Michael, Michelle Jeffrey and Jennifer Jeffrey; one great- nephew, James Jeffrey; one great-great niece, Casey McCoy; and one great-great nephew, Cody McCoy.

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Stepfan Kercheff.

He was united in marriage to Susan Mikkelson on Nov. 29, 1975 in Latimer.

He owned and operated Gauger Heating & Cooling in Latimer for 21 years.

He served on the Latimer Town Council, Latimer Community Club. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard and the Latimer Golf Course.

ALDEN — James William Hunt, 75, of 15625 Highway 941, Alden, died Saturday (April 11, 1998) at his home.

He was born July 9, 1922, in Dolliver, Iowa, to Charles D. and Ruth C. Mitchell Hunt.

Jim graduated from Alden Public School in 1942. Jim served in the Army from 1942 until February of 1946.

He was united in marriage to Betty Tollakson on June 26, 1948 at Our Saviors Luthran Church, Radcliffe.

Jim was a lumberyard manager, worked in construction, was a client supervisor at the Mid Iowa Workshop, a bus driver for the Alden Community School, Alden UMYF, and Hardin County Activity Center.Jim was a member of the Alden United Methodist Church having served on the board of trustees, the Minnesota Poultry Association, Iowa Miniature Horse Club and the Iowa Firemans Association. He took the UMYF group to Lone Tree, Wyo., raised miniature horses and showed poultry.

Leona was born July 27, 1920 in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Florence (Sheldon) Marchand. She graduated from Milford High School in 1938. After high school, she moved to Mason City, Iowa where she worked for Northwestern Bell as an operator.

Leona married Ernest Roth on Jan. 1, 1941 in Mason City, Iowa. They moved to Ruthven, Iowa where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business. They moved back to Clear Lake in 1958.

Leona worked for a Realtor in Clear Lake, then in the office of Whittwere Wholesale Grocery, and then the Clear Lake Bakery for 20 years.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, Tripoli and entering radio contests. She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake, Iowa.

Leona is survived by two children, James Roth and his wife, Judy, Vancouver, Wash., and Susan Dietz and her husband, Guy, of Clear Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren, Bob Eggers, Mason City, Jody Roth, Montril, Calif., Robin Miller, Los Angeles, Calif., Holly Allen, Trout Dale, Ore., Anthony Govero, Vancouver, Wash., and Corey Roth, Vancouver, Wash.; five greatgrand-children, Megan Goodwin, Cody Farmer, Bailey Farmer, Taylor Govero and Tristin Farmer; two sisters, Marjorie Petersen and her husband, Arthur, Mason City, and Donna Nelson, Fort Dodge; one brother, Dick Marchand and his wife, Ruth, Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

Ella Louise Voigts was born May 7, 1909, in rural West Point Township, Butler County, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Conrad) Voigts.

She was baptized on May 30, 1909, and was confirmed a member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar on April 27, 1924. She attended rural schools at Brushy Mound in Butler County.

On June 30, 1928, Ella was united in marriage to P. A. "Bill" Jacobs at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church at Vilmar. To this union was born six daughters and three sons. They farmed in the Butler County area for 45 years, retiring in 1973 when they moved into Greene.

Ella will be remembered as a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who put her family before herself. Her interests included fishing, traveling, quilting, sewing and bingo. She was a member of the Ladies Aid at St. John's at Vilmar.

Living family members included six daughters, Gladys Young, of Finchford, Donna Spratt, and her husband, Jim, of Greene, Barbara Jacobs, of Greene, JoAnn Berger, and her husband, Leon, of Waverly, Judy Chester, and her husband, Lemar, of Clarksville, and Janet Platte, of Ankeny; two sons, LeRoy Jacobs, and his wife, Leona, of Clarksville, and Richard Jacobs, and his wife, Marian, of Greene; 35 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; one daughter-in-law, Angie Jacobs, of Waverly; and one brother-in-law, John Hartman, Shell Rock.

** Robert J. Linne

MASON CITY — Robert J. Linne, 71, of 538 3rd St. N.E., died Monday (April 13, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Thursday at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St. S.E., with the Rev. Kermit Roisen of the Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 4 until 8 p.m. today at the Fullerton Funeral Home, with a Moose service at 7 p.m.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Robert Linne Memorial Fund.

Robert was born Oct, 30, 1926, the son of Henry and Alvina (Sandersfeld) Linne in Klemme, Iowa. He later graduated from Clear Lake High School.

Robert served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II.

On June 27, 1948, Robert was united in marriage to Josephine Poohl at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake.

After the service he got a job at Clear Lake Sand and Gravel for a couple of years before getting a job with Henkel Construction in the maintenance department. After 40 years of working for Henkel, he retired as a foreman.

Robert was a great outdoorsman who loved his fishing excursions to Canada. He was always in search of that trophy walleye. He enjoyed hunting whenever time allowed.

He also liked to garden and spend time visiting with friends and neighbors.

Robert was a member of the Lunker Club, the V.F.W. Post 733, and the Moose Lodge 1328 in Mason City.

Robert is survived by his wife, Josephine; two sisters, Trina and her husband, Orville Mestead, and Gertrude and her husband, Kenneth Roppe; one brother, Henry and his wife, Donna Linne Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Linne was preceded in death by his parents; sibling twins, Bernice and Elmer; and a brother, George.

** Leona L. 'Frenchie' Roth

CLEAR LAKE — Mrs. Leona L. "Frenchie" Roth, 77, of 710 S. Shore Dr., died Sunday (April 12, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation was held on Tuesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services today at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Leona L. Roth Memorial fund.

Leona was born July 27, 1920, in Milford, Iowa, the daughter of Louis and Florence (Sheldon) Marchand. She graduated from Milford High School in 1938. After high school, she moved to Mason City, Iowa, where she worked for Northwestern Bell as an operator.

Leona married Ernest Roth on Jan. 1, 1941, in Mason City. They moved to Ruthven, Iowa, where they owned and operated a dry cleaning business. They moved back to Clear Lake in 1958.

Leona worked for a Realtor in Clear Lake, then in the office of Whittwere Wholesale Grocery, and then the Clear Lake Bakery for 20 years.

She enjoyed dancing, playing cards, Tripoli and entering radio contests. She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Clear Lake.

Leona is survived by two children, James Roth and his wife, Judy, Vancouver, Wash., and Susan Dietz and her husband, Guy, of Clear Lake, Iowa; six grandchildren, Bob Eggers, Mason City, Jody Roth, Montril, Calif., Robin Miller, Los Angeles, Calif., Holly Allen, Trout Dale, Ore., Anthony Govero, Vancouver, Wash., and Corey Roth, Vancouver, Wash.; five great-grandchildren, Megan Goodwin, Cody Farmer, Bailey Farmer, Tylor Govero and Tristin Farmer; two sisters, Marjorie Petersen and her husband, Arthur, Mason City, and Donna Nelson, Fort Dodge; one brother, Dick Marchand and his wife, Ruth, Clear Lake; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and one infant brother, Richard Marchand.

** Sherri Mae Cosgriff

CLEAR LAKE — Sherri Mae Sylvester-Jorgensen Cosgriff, 37, of 21270 Hickory Ave., Clear Lake, died Monday (April 13, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Fred Lewis officiating. Following the service, her body will be cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date.

Visitation will begin after 5 p.m. today at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. and one hour before services on Thursday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to the Lupus-Arthritis Foundation or Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Sherri was born May 7, 1960, in Charles City, Iowa, the daughter of Sharon (Martin) and Gary Sylvester. She was adopted by Charles Jorgensen in 1973.

She graduated from Clear Lake High School in 1978 and continued her education at Hamilton Business College and Buena Vista College, earning a degree in accounting.

She married Bradley Cosgriff on Aug. 2, 1980, in Clear Lake, Iowa.

Sherri was employed at Kemmerer Marine in Clear Lake.

She enjoyed crafts and made many of them from God's nature, using dried flowers, herbs, fruits and vines from around her home and garden. She loved gardening, cooking, reading, playing practical jokes on her friends and baking for her family. Her home, husband and family were the center of her life.

Sherri was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church.

Sherri is survived by her husband, Brad Cosgriff, Clear Lake, Iowa; two daughters, Shannon Cosgriff, Thompson, Iowa, and Heather Cosgriff, Clear Lake, Iowa; and one son, Christopher Cosgriff, Clear Lake, Iowa; her parents, Sharon and Charles Jorgensen, Clear Lake, Iowa; her father and mother-in-law, Dan and Pat Cosgriff, Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Terri McLees and her husband, Skip, Thompson, Iowa, and June Myers and her husband, Glenn, Webster, Minn.; maternal grandparents, Martha and Charles Martin, Charles City, Iowa; and paternal grandmother, Leona Abram, Charles City, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her father, Gary Sylvester, 1971; and paternal grandfather, Martin Sylvester in 1965.
