Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center.

Eka Janssen, 83, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 1997) at Timely Mission

Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First

Reformed Church with the Rev. William Peake officiating.  Interment

will be in the Ramsey Reformed Cemetery, Titonka.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Winter Funeral

Home and one hour before the service at the church.



Survivors include her husband, Robert of Buffalo Center; two

daughters, Agnes Hartman of Crystal Lake, and Carolyn Vodraska

of Clarion; four grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and one

sister, Ella Dirkson of Buffalo Center.



Eka was preceded in death by her parents.

Lois Ruby Beyer, 70, died Friday (Jan. 3, 1997) at home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First

Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating.  Burial

will be in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Schroeder

and Sites Funeral Home.



Lois was born Oct. 3, 1926 in Rock Township, Mitchell County.



Survivors include one daughter, Jane Sherrard of Grafton; two

sons, Ronnie Beyer of Harvey, N.D., and Larry Beyer of St. Ansgar;

one sister, Elaine Pike of St. Ansgar; nine grandchildren; three

step grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two step great-

grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

Hazel Sarah Brink

CHARLES CITY  



Hazel Sarah Brink, 93, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 1997) at Floyd

County Hospital.



Graveside services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, at Evergreen

Cemetery, Rudd, with the Rev. Deborah Stowers, of Rudd United

Methodist Church, officiating.



Hazel Sarah Brink was born June 26, 1903, in Iowa Falls, daughter

of Charles and Maye (Weaver) Long.  she married Arthur Brink

in 1927, at Iowa Falls.  Hazel and her husband farmed near Rockford

all of their married life until retiring.  She resided the past

nine years at the Salsbury Baptist Home.



Survivors include nieces and nephews, Orville Thompson and his

wife Arlene of Storm Lake; Valdeva Herman and her husband Larry

of Viroqua, Wisc.; Marilyn Pohl and her husband Elvin of Pequot

Lakes, Minn.; Marlys Tanner and her husband Cliff of Carleton,

Minn.; Sheilia Whipple and her husband Gene of Duluth, Minn.;

and Audrey Bailcy and her husband John of Marshalltown.



She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters,

Inez Thompson, and Mildred Rush; and one brother, Glenn Long.



Shecker Colonial Chapel, 114 North Hawkeye Street, Nora Springs,

in charge of arrangements.

STACYVILLE  



Pauline E. Hoffman, 80, of 101 South Water Street, died Thursday

(Jan. 2, 1997) at Stacyville Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Visitation

Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Osage.  Burial

will be in the Visitation Cemetery.



There will be a Rosary at 3 p.m. and a Wake Service at 8 p.m.

today at the church with visitation before and after each.



Hatten Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.



Pauline was born Jan. 8, 1916 in Meyer.



Survivors include her husband, Joseph Hoffman; two daughters,

Charlotte Fails of North Hollywood, Calif., and Janet Chico of

Glendale, Calif.; one son, Gary Hoffman of Chicago, Ill.; two

grandchildren; and two sisters Jackie Smith and Agnes Corwin.



She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers.

KALONA  



Riley John Yoder, son of Charles and Dora Ann DeLaFuente Yoder

of Kalona was stillborn Friday (Jan. 3, 1997) at the University

Hospital in Iowa City.



Surviving with his parents are a sister Morgan; grandparents,

Joe and Josephine DeLaFuente of Clear Lake and J. Carl and Laverta

Yoder of Wellman; great grandparents, Carmen Osegaro of Mason

City and Daniel H. Miller of Kalona.



Graveside services are set for 11 a.m. Monday at the Holy Trinity

Catholic Cemetery in Richmond with the Rev. Scott Lemaster officiating.

Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of arrangements.

John E. Heath, 84, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 1997) at Franklin

General Hospital.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema

Vogel Funeral Home, with the Rev. Larry McCann officiating. 

Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral

home.



John Heath was born Nov. 11, 1912 in Sac County.



Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Heath of Hampton; two daughters,

Marilyn Raine of Ft. Dodge and Debra Behn of Geneva; two step

daughters, Loretta Barrett of Nevada and Bonnie Hatch of Cherokee;

one sister, Blanche Eaton of Wichita, Kan.; two grandchildren;

six step grandchildren; and 13 step great grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and

two brothers.

MASON CITY  



Carl W. Haase, 92, formerly of 221 Second St. N.W., died Friday

(Jan. 3, 1997) at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Wayside Chapel

- First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Merlin Ackerson

officiating.  Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.



Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral

Home 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave. and one hour before service time

at the church Monday.



There will be a Masonic service held at 7 p.m. today at the

Funeral Home by Benevolence Lodge # 145.



Memorials may be given to the Carl W. Haase Memorial Fund.



Carl was born Aug. 15, 1904 in Mason City, son of Frank F. and

Matilda (Smith) Haase.  He attended and graduated from Mason

City High School in 1922.  He was married to Esther C. Halson

on May 26, 1926 in Mason City.  She preceded him in death on

Nov. 11, 1974.  Carl worked for many years for the Standard Oil

Company until 1956 when the office closed.  He then worked for

the Edgar S. Gage Company until 1961.  For the next five years

he was self-employed as the Haase Accounting and Tax Service

retiring in 1966.



He was a life member of the First United Methodist Church, Past

Master of Benevolence Lodge #145 AF and AM; Past Illustrious

Master Mason City Council #45; Past High Priest of Benevolence

Chapter #46; Past Eminent Commander Antioch Commandery #43; Knights

Templar, Mason City; Past President of the North Iowa Shrine

Club; a members of El Kahir Temple, Cedar Rapids; a member of

Cedar Rapids Consistory and the Unity Chapter #58; Alchor Shrine

#6, Mason City; a member of Eastern Star and White Shrine; Mason

City High 12 Club; Treasurer for 20 years of the Masonic Temple

Association; a member of the Foundation Board of NIACC and was

active in soliciting funds for the United Way and was an active

volunteer for Hospice of North Iowa.



Survivors include one sister, Dorothy Lange of Evanston, Ill.;

one sister-in-law, Ethel Haase of Austin, Minn.; special friends,

Florence Juliar of St. Clair, Minn., and Ruth Rekow of Mason

City; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brothers

Stanley, Bill and Bob.

Dorothy Abbott, 76, died Friday (Jan. 3, 1997) at the Kossuth

Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the First

Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald Seegar officiating.

Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Geinfeld-Murphy-

Schaaf Funeral Home.



Dorothy was born on May 27, 1920 in Irvington Township.



Survivors include her daughter, Jean DeBoom of Algona; a son,

Jim Abbott of Brea, Calif.; and four grandchildren.

Kay F. Schoephoerster

WATERLOO  



Kay F. Schoephoerster, 60, of 1176 E. Mitchell, died at Covenant

Medical Center Saturday evening (Jan. 4, 1997) of a heart attack.



Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kearns,

Huisman-Schuamacher Chapel, 3146 Kimball Ave., with a 3 p.m.

graveside service at the Rockwell Cemetery in Rockwell.



Friends may call at the funeral home from 4 to 8 p.m. today

and an hour before services Tuesday.



Those who wish to may direct memorials to the family.



Kay was born May 20, 1936, in Mason City, the daughter of Francis

and Hazel Thurman Berneman.  She married Grant C. Schoephoerster

in November of 1965 in Waterloo. He died in 1993.



She was a nurses aide at Parkview Gardens Care Center, Americana

and most recently at the Harmony House, totaling 30 years, retiring

in 1993.



Kay is survived by four daughters, GySgt. Wanda Howell of Jackson,

Miss., Mary Peverill of Waterloo, Pam Hayden of Lakeville, Minn.,

and Dena Berryman of Waterloo; two brothers, Richard of Kingston,

Idaho, and James of Mason City; one sister, Lorraine Jenison

of Waterloo; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by one son, Guy; and three brothers,

Bernard, Robert ``Duke,'' and Francis.

S.H. Heinz, 69, of 620 Road 52, Pasco, Wash., died Thursday

(Jan. 2, 1997) at Highline Community Hospital, Burien, Wash.



Memorial services will be held Tuesday at Prince of Peace Lutheran

Church, 19030 Eighth Ave. S., Seattle, Wash. 91848



Sigrid Harter Heinz was born July 2, 1927, in Columbus, Neb.,

the son of the Rev. F. Albin Heinz and Adeline (Matthias) Heinz.

He lived with his family in Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa.  After

graduating from Mason City, Iowa,  High School in 1944, he served

in the U.S. Navy in 1945 and 1946 and attended Mason City Junior

College.



He was married to Maxine Flatness of Manly, Iowa, on Oct. 5,

1952.  Sig was friendly, considerate and devoted to his family.

They have lived in Pasco, Wash., for 20 years.  He represented

International Harvester Company to its dealers for 37 years while

living in Iowa, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington.



Survivors include his wife, Maxine; a daughter, Elizabeth A.

South and her husband, Michael, of Spokane, Wash., and their

daughters, Kelsey and Kadi; a son, Charles D. and his wife, Dottie,

of Federal Way, Wash., and their daughters, Jenna and Kari; two

brothers, Al and his wife, Janet, of Mason City, and Paul and

his wife, Jean, of Clear Lake; seven nephews; and three nieces.



He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Norma

Kliven of Rockford, Ill.

Stephen Engelhardt, 70, of rural Riceville, died Saturday (Jan.

4, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Congregational United Church of Christ with the Rev. Thomas Mowbray

officiating.  Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.



Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home from 2 to 5 p.m.

today.



He was born Dec. 12, 1926.



Survivors include an aunt and several cousins. He was preceded

in death by his parents.

She was born Aug. 31, 1911, in Weyaywega, Wisc.



Survivors include two sons, David Shreve of Dougherty and Patrick

Shreve of Osage; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.



She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Eka Janssen, 83, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 1997) at Timely Mission

Eka Janssen, daughter of Jasper and Tena (Winter) Dirkson, was

born April 10, 1913 near Buffalo Center.  She attended country

school at Lincoln  No. 4 School.



Eka was a life-long member of the Buffalo Center First Reformed

Church were she belonged to the Dorcus Circle and the Golden

Club.  she enjoyed traveling, baking and dearly enjoyed her grandchildren

and great-grandchildren, never forgetting a birthday.



Eka became a resident of Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo

Center, in May of 1994.  There she still practiced her faith

by participating in the Bible Study programs.



She will be dearly missed by her husband, Robert, of Buffalo

Center; two daughters, Agnes Hartman and her husband, Ronald,

of Crystal Lake, and Carolyn Vodraska and her husband, Mike,

of Clarion; four grandchildren, Cindy Rippentrop, Julie Jesson,

Chris Redenius and Michelle Vodraska; 12 great-grandchildren;

and one sister, Ella Dirkson of Buffalo Center.



Eka was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper and Tena Dirkson.

Legion and Britt V.F.W.



He was born March 14, 1903, at Crystal Lake.



Survivors include two sisters, Helen Blum of Charles City and

Bertha Manser of Le Center, Minn.; and one brother, Robert Hesley

of Glendale, Ariz.

CLEAR LAKE 



Patricia (Tice) Reams, 64, of Phoenix, Ariz., died Wednesday

(Jan. 1, 1997) at Phoenix, Ariz.



Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. today at Ward-Van Slyke

Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St., with Rev. Larry Squier of

the Clear Lake Christian Church officiating.  Burial will be

in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.



Visitation will begin one hour prior to the services at the

funeral home.



Patricia's family requests that contributions be made in her

memory to the Sunday School Fund at The Church At Litchfield

Park, 300 N. Litchfield Road, Litchfield Park, Ariz. 85340.



Patricia (Tice) Reams was born Feb. 29, 1932, at Clear Lake,

the daughter of Charles W. and Mollie (Schwartz) Tice.



She grew up and received her education in Clear Lake, graduating

from Clear Lake High School in 1950.



Patricia married Gilbert Reams on June 25, 1950, at the Clear

Lake Methodist Church.



She was employed as an accounting clerk for Sears, in Burnsville,

Minn., and then in Phoenix, for 20 years.



Survivors include her husband, Gilbert Reams, of Phoenix, Ariz.;

two daughters, Karen Plaman and her husband, Ron, of Eagan, Minn.,

and Rhonda Anderson and her husband, Bradley, of Phoenix, Ariz.;

one son, Lon Reams and his wife, Jean, of Litchfield Park, Ariz.;

four grandchildren, Robert Plaman of Eagan, Minn.; Nicole Anderson

of Phoenix, Ariz., and Mollie Reams and Jeffrey Reams of Litchfield,

Ariz.; two sisters, Vivian Kraft, Northwood, and Reva Peters

of Swaledale; three brothers, Gayle Tice, Garner; Harvey Tice

of Birmingham, Ala., and Donald Tice and his wife, Ruth, of Clear

Lake; one sister-in-law, Murle Tice, Omaha, Neb.; and many nieces

and nephews.



She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Dison

Tice.

will be in the Allison Cemetery.

Hilko Janssen was born April 19, 1906, in Franklin County.



Survivors include one daughter, Mary Ackerman, of Waverly; two

sons, William Janssen, Waverly, and Robert Janssen of Mesa, Ariz.;

three sisters, Sena Uhlenhopp of Waterloo; Alice Buss,  Allison,

and Ann Oldenburger of Parkersburg; six grandchildren; and four

great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, five brothers

and two sisters.

Eldon ``Dunk'' Duncan Sr., 67, of Algona, formerly of Fenton,

died Sunday (Jan. 5, 1997) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the

Chapel of Wilson Funeral Home, with the Rev. Sue Thomas officiating.

Military rites will be held at the Fenton United Methodist Cemetery

by VFW Post #5232 of Armstrong.



Friends may call at the Wilson Funeral Home after 7:30 p.m.

today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday.



Eldon Duncan Sr. was born Jan. 9, 1929, at Burt.



Survivors include his wife, Lila; one daughter, Lori Jorgenson

of Fenton; two sons, Eldon Jr., of Birmingham, Mich., and William

of Cedar Rapids; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

at his home in Forest City.

Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery.

Verne Lovik was born March 15, 1922, on a farm near Vinje.



Survivors include his wife, Eleanor Lovik of Forest City; one

daughter, Ellen Eenhuis of Lenexa, Kan.; two sons, Gerald Lovik

of Thornton, Colo., and Lynn Lovik of Forest City; one sister,

Marlene Krull of Buffalo Center; one brother, Harlan Lovik of

Lake Mills; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.



He is preceded in death by his parents, one son and one brother.

HOT SPRINGS, S.D. 



Michael B. O'Brien, 57, of 317 S. River, Hot Springs, formerly

of Oelwein, Iowa, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 1997) at his home in

Hot Springs after a lengthy illness.



Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hintz-

Geilenfeld Funeral Home, 309 First Ave. N.E., Oelwein.  Burial

will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Oelwein.



Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hintz-Geilenfeld

Funeral Home, Oelwein.



A memorial fund has been established.



Michael B. O'Brien was born Dec. 10, 1939, a son of Cornelius

J. and Helen E. (Byrne) O'Brien.



He graduated from Holy Family High School in 1957 and then attended

Mason City Junior College before entering the Army.  He was

retired from the U.S. Army.



He was a member of American Legion Post #71.



Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Pete (Sheila) Stasi and

Mrs. Lou (Colleen) Stasi, both of Oelwein; a brother, Dr. John

(Darlene) O'Brien of Oelwein; very close friends, Debbie Jensen

and family and Jack Christosfesen; and many nieces and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Connie.

after a short illness while wintering in San Benito, Texas.

Perrine officiating.  Burial will be in the Corwith Cemetery.

Survivors include two sons, Eugene Marr of Allegan, Mich., and

Richard Marr of Bend, Ore,; one brother, Glen Marr of Phoenix,

Ariz.; one sister, Delma Russell, Spirit Lake; three grandchildren;

and three great-grandchildren.

Dorothy A. Burris

CLEAR LAKE  



Dorothy A. Burris, 80, of 705 Third Ave. N., died Monday (Jan.

6, 1997) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran

Church with the Rev. Dean Hess officiating.  Following funeral

services cremation will take place and a memorial service will

be held in Colorado at a later date.



Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ward-Van

Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St.



Memorials may be given to the Dorothy A. Burris Memorial Fund,

which will be directed toward the Adult Day Health Center, Mason

City.



Dorothy A. Burris was born Nov. 17, 1916, at Davenport, the

daughter of John and Bertha (Schmidt) Woehlk.  She grew up and

attended school in Davenport.  She married Eugene F. Burris in

1937 at the Little Brown Church at Nashua.



Dorothy was very involved in school and church activities when

her children were growing up, participating in Cub Scouts, Girl

Scouts, and the PTA, serving as president.  She enjoyed cooking,

sewing, watching and feeding the animals in her yard.  She loved

her grandchildren dearly and was very interested in their various

activities.



Dorothy especially loved the cabin she shared with her family

on the Grand Mesa in Colorado, and spent some of her happiest

times there.  She filled the cabin front with native wild flowers.



She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake.  She was

an honorary member of the Peace Circle and served in the past

as its president.  She also was a member of the Altar Guild.



Survivors include her husband, Eugene F. Burris of Clear Lake;

three children, Ron Burris and his wife, Brenda, of Dublin, Ohio;

Dennis Burris and his wife, Barbara, of Dexter, Ore., and Wendy

Keen and her husband, Will, of Mason City; grandchildren, Jon,

Jeff, Roddy and Tom Burris, Heather Preston, Briceanne Bailey,

Nancy Frame, Brent Bailey, Johannah Keil, Korenza Burris and

Jennifer, Aimee and Nathan Keen; and one brother, Johnny Woehlk

of Chicago, Ill.



She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Eugene

and Wilbur Woehlk; an infant daughter; and one grandchild, Gabriel.

Percy Howland, 82, of Forest City, died Monday (Jan. 6, 1997)

at his home.



Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the

Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Douglas Farrell officiating.

Burial will be in Madison Township Cemetery.



Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Petersen

Lund Funeral Home.



Percy A. Howland was born on a farm south of Forest City in

Hancock County on Nov. 8, 1914, the son of Ernest and Kate (Stieff)

Howland.  He attended rural school and graduated from Forest

City High School in 1934.  He was married to Esther Jensen on

Jan. 6, 1938, at Calvary Baptist Church.  The couple lived briefly

on a farm southwest of Forest City until moving to their present

home in 1939.  After he quit farming, Percy worked at Winnebago

Industries in Forest City from 1966 until his retirement in 1979.

He and his wife enjoyed camping and gardening.  Esther died

in 1991.  Percy was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and served

on the Board of Directors for the Garner Co-op Association. 

He was a gifted woodworker and loved spending time in his woodshop.



Percy died at his home on Jan. 6, 1997, at the age of 82 years.

He is survived by a son and his wife, Roger and Barbara Howland

of Clear Lake; two daughters, Eileen Butz of Clear Lake, and

Alice Roath and her husband, Gary, of Mason City; a brother,

Eugene Howland of Clear Lake; four grandchildren; and six great-

grandchildren.



He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther; two

daughters, Mavis Ann and Beverly Sue; a brother, Harold Howland;

and a sister, Leila Johnson.

at the Good Samaritan Center.



A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday

at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Wesley, with the Rev. Paul Bormann

officiating.  Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona,

with military graveside services conducted by the Elmer Wilson

American Legion Post #229 of Corwith.



Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-

Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Wesley.  There will be a Catholic

Daughters of the Americas rosary at 3 p.m. and a parish prayer

service at 7:30 p.m.



Peter Adolph Besch was born Sept. 19, 1941, in Algona.



Survivors include two brothers, Francis Besch of LuVerne, and

Don Besch of Corwith; and two sisters, Virginia Bode of Wesley,

and Catherine Dinesen of Leawood, Kan.



He was preceded in death by his parents.

Hazel M. Walters was born March 23, 1904, in Belle Plaine, the

daughter of Harry Everett and Bertha Jane (Shaull) Dull.



The family moved to Mason City in 1906 where Hazel graduated

from Mason City High School in 1922.



She married Tom Walters on Feb. 27, 1926, at Garner.



Hazel worked for Damons Department Store for 23 years retiring

in 1976.



She was a charter member of Grace United Methodist Church, was

a member of the U.M.W., church circle and Eastern Star.



Survivors include two daughters, Sally J. Thrams and her husband,

Charlie, of Mason City, and Linda L. Lubkeman and her husband,

Alva, of Rockwell; one son, Raymond E. Walters of Eveleth, Minn.;

16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.



She was preceded by her parents; husband, Tom; son, Thomas;

and one sister, Myrtle Stoltenberg.

John E. Fitzgerald, 67, of 418 S. Garfield Ave., died Wednesday

(Jan. 8, 1997) at his home.

Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with Father Stephen L. Meyer

officiating.  Interment will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery,

Rockwell.

Parish Center with a 7 p.m. rosary.

John E. Fitzgerald was born on July 17, 1929, in Rockwell, the

son of John and Irene (Meehan) Fitzgerald.



He attended and graduated from the Rockwell school system.



On May 7, 1949, he was united in marriage to Barbara Cahalan

at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell.



John was an avid sports enthusiast, who played and watched all

types,  especially slow and fast pitch softball.



He was recently inducted into the Mason City Softball Hall of

Fame. John once bowled a 299 and enjoyed golfing, fishing and

hunting pheasants.



John won many awards and honors as car salesman for various

dealers in Mason City.



John was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and St. Joseph

Catholic Church.



He is survived by his wife, Barbara; two daughters, Mrs. Don

(Sue Ann) Bergman of Fort Dodge, and Mrs. Mark (Teresa) Dilbeck

of Altadena, Calif.; two sons, John F. and his wife, Donna Fitzgerald

of Mason City, and Kevin Fitzgerald of Altadena, Calif.; three

sisters, Mrs. Lowell (Geraldine) Hart of Bettendorf; Mrs. Donald

(Sharon) Kruckenberg of Rockwell, and  Mrs. Melvin (Kaye) Kruckenberg

of Rockwell; two brothers, Irv and his wife, Margaret Fitzgerald

of Mesa, Ariz., and Leo P. and his wife, Jo Fitzgerald, of Preston,

Minn.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and many nieces

and nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, John Joseph

Fitzgerald, and Gary Michael Fitzgerald; and one brother, J.F.

Fitzgerald.

Dorothy was born on July 17, 1906, at Sandstone, Minn., the

daughter of Johannes and Fannie (Vork) Plaggerman.



She graduated from Sandstone High School in 1926 and continued

her education at St. Cloud State College, receiving a Bachelor

of Science Degree in 1961.



She then taught at Annandale Public School where she retired

in 1972. She received the prestigious Outstanding Elementary

Teacher of America award.



She was united in marriage to Bret Bowen on June 12, 1936. at

Spencer, and helped him with farming at Hinckley and Clear Water,

Minn.



She moved to Silver Creek, Minn., in 1957, then to Maple Lake

in 1986, and in the fall of 1991 to Mason City.



While at Silver Creek, she was very involved with her membership

at Silver Creek Reformed Church and the Christian Women's Club

where she was a coordinator for the Stone Croft Bible Studies.

She also was a member of the Minnesota Teachers Association.



She is survived by her nephew and wife, Dean and LaVonne Blackmer;

four great nieces, Cheryl Anderson, Patti Florman and Tammy Marsh,

all of Mason City,  and Julie Davis, Brussels, Belgium; one great

nephew, Roger Marsh of Mason City; a sister-in-law, Gladys Plaggerman,

Sandstone, Minn.; and some very special friends in Iowa and Minnesota.



She was preceded in death by her husband in November of 1962,

two sisters and five brothers.
