Lowell Thomas Stumo

NORTHWOOD — Lowell Thomas Stumo, 48, of Northwood, died on Sunday (Dec. 7, 1997) at his residence in rural Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Sion Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills, with the Rev. Gary Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Elk Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Kensett, with full military honors.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood.

Lowell Thomas Stumo was born on March 19, 1949, in Mason City, the son of Peter and Lillian (Johnson) Stumo.

He was baptized on May 22, 1949, at Elk Creek Lutheran Church and confirmed there also. Lowell graduated from Northwood-Kensett High School in 1967.

He worked for Armour and Company before and after his military service and then spent 20 years as a Worth County road worker. He also farmed and in 1996, he purchased the original family farm.

Lowell served with distinction in Vietnam in 1969-70 with Company B, 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Air Medal.

He enjoyed his family, gardening, woodworking, hunting, fishing and reading.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Marie, of Northwood; two sons, Thomas of Darlington, Ind., and Timothy, at home; two daughters, Suzanne Rikala and her husband, Gary, of Lake Mills, and Emily at home; one grandson, Thomas Rikala; his father, Peter Stumo, the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood; brothers, Nelson and his wife, ElNora, of Goodell, John and his wife, Joan, of Northwood, and Paul, of Clear Lake; sisters, Elizabeth Reichl and her husband, Stan, of Albert Lea, Minn., and Judy Lee and her husband, Mike, of Northwood; four aunts, Carma Brunsvold, of Manly, Threse Havens, of Mason City, Alice Trustem, of Lake Mills, and Eleanore Gensrich; his father and mother-in-law, James and Lucille Medlang, of Kensett; 12 nieces and nephews; many cousins and friends.

Lowell was preceded in death by his grandparents; his mother; and one sister-in-law, Verna Stumo.

Horace Greer 'Bud' Parker

MASON CITY — Horace Greer "Bud" Parker, 90, of 130 Fifth St. N.W., died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Richard D. Scheerer, of First Congregational United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

Memorials may be given to the Horace "Bud" Parker Memorial Fund.

Horace Greer "Bud" Parker was born Sept. 30, 1907, in Mason City, the son of Carl A. and Annette (Greer) Parker.

Mr. Parker graduated from Mason City High School and the University of Iowa in 1930.

He was self-employed in the North Iowa area for many years.

Mr. Parker was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Masonic Lodge and Elks Lodge.

There are no immediate survivors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Annette Parker; and one sister, Marjorie A. Parker. 

John Carl Anderson

MASON CITY — John Carl Anderson, 74, of 304 Third St. N.E., died early on Wednesday morning (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Carl Ries of St. Joseph Catholic Church officiating.

Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, with full military rites conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the John C. Anderson Memorial Fund.

John was born on June 8, 1923, in Forest City, the son of John and Lois R. (Rockwell) Anderson.

He attended school in Forest City and at the age of 17, he joined the National Guard.

In February of 1941, he enlisted in the Army in Mason City and was honorably discharged in August of 1945, in Jefferson, Mo. While in the service, he served in every active conflict in the European Theater without suffering a bruise. He earned his Combat Infantry Badge, American Defense Ribbon, five overseas Bars, two Bronze Stars for service in Naples, Foggia and Rome, Italy. He also served in Europe, Africa and the Middle East in the military police.

John was united in marriage to Cleo F. McCormick on Jan. 1, 1951, at Fort Hood, Texas, where they lived until moving to Georgia and Kansas while he was in the service.

Following his discharge, he lived in Belmond, Mason City, San Leandro, Calif.; Alamogordo, N.M. for five years and then moved back to Mason City in 1989.

He worked as a Pinkerton security guard at the Armour Plant on the north end, a gate security guard at Lehigh Cement Plant, and with the Loomis Armored Car Service. He also worked as a security guard in California at a mall.

He was a life member of the V.F.W., member of AARP, enjoyed playing Pinochle and "500" card games, reading western novels, golfing, and was an avid sports fan of baseball, football and basketball.

Along with his loving wife, Cleo, John is survived by his mother, Lois Anderson, Mason City; one son, David and his wife, Carolyn, Mason City; one daughter-in-law, Bernadette Anderson, Dudley, N.C.; one sister, Faye and her husband, Milford Brunsvold, Hermann, Mo.; one brother, Frank and his wife, Marge Anderson, Forest City; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his father, John; and one son, Stephen.

David Christian Sloan Jr.

MASON CITY — David Christian Sloan Jr., 7, of 2 Cairnbrae Hills, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Arne C. Bergland officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and until 11 a.m. on Friday.

An endowment will be established in memory of David.

David was born July 11, 1990, in Mason City. He was a wonderful son, big brother and friend.

David was currently a first grader at Harding Elementary School. Being an excellent student, he loved to read, play piano, speak Spanish and act at Stebens Children Theatre.

He was involved in all kinds of activities, soccer, tee ball, golf, skiing, skating, bike riding, swimming, fishing, archery, baking with his mother and recently received an honorary black belt in karate.

David was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Goju-Ryu Karate Club, was active in and enjoyed Stebens Children Theatre, piano, Spanish and fishing.

David was a special child whose love, laughter, caring and sharing touched the lives of everyone who knew him. He will always be remembered, loved and missed.

David is survived by his parents, David and Krys Sloan, of Mason City; two brothers, Andrew and Ian, at home; grandparents, James and Joan Sloan, of Independence, Iowa, Krystyna Biliunas, of Cleveland, Ohio, and Alberta Wieland, of Winthrop, Iowa; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his biological mother, Mary Jo Sloan; and two grandfathers.

Thomas R. Logan

CHARLES CITY — Thomas R. Logan, 41, 303 Oak Park Circle, Waterloo, and formerly of Charles City, died unexpectedly Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at his residence of an apparent heart attack.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, U.S. Highway 18 and Clark Streets, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery.

Friends may call from 1 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., with a Parish Scriptural wake service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to Mass on Friday morning at the church.

Thomas Raymond Logan was born Dec. 28, 1955, in Charles City, the son of Earl Raymond and Thelma Jean (Christensen) Logan.

Tom attended school in Charles City and graduated from Charles City Community High School in 1974.

During his high school days, Tom began to work in the parts department of the former Bissonette Chevrolet in Charles City as part of the Co-op program of Charles City Community High School. He remained with Bissonette Chevrolet for several years before moving to Waterloo to become the parts manager of the John Deery Motor Company. Tom then took a similar position with Reed Auto Plaza. At the time of his death, Tom was the parts manager for C & S Car Company of Waterloo.

Tom was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church of Charles City. While living in Charles City, Tom used to drive a drag racing car at the NITA Raceway in Waterloo.

Living family members include his mother, Thelma Jean Logan, of Charles City; a sister and her husband, Becky and Lloyd Severin, of Charles City; and two nieces, Hannah and Chelsea Severin, of Charles City.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl Raymond Logan; and his brother, Dennis Earl Logan, who died Sept. 6, 1996.

August Ehlke

OSAGE — August Ehlke, 80, of Osage, died Wednesday (Dec. 10,1997) at the Faith Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, 1997, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, with the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial is in the St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation is after 2 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 6 to 7 p.m., and continues one hour before services at the church Saturday.

August Ehlke was born Sept. 12, 1917, in Union Township.

Survivors include his wife, Viola, Osage; two daughters, Joanne Hyland, Orchard, and Carolyn Tommeraas, Zumbro Falls, Minn.; one brother, Ewald Ehlke Sr., Toterville; and one grandson.

Ehlke was preceded in death by his parents.

Violet Ohm

FOREST CITY — Violet Ohm, 77, of Forest City, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at the North Iowa Mercy Hospital in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Dec. 12, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Sharon Worthington officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Lake Cemetery in Crystal Lake.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today, Dec. 11, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St.

Violet was born Dec. 4, 1920, in Harwood, Mo.

Survivors include two daughters, Connie Holecek, Garner, and Patricia Peterson, Forest City; two sons, Everett Brock, Forest City, and Dennis Brock, Mason City; two sisters, Mildred Sorenson, Crystal Lake, and Irene Graham, Manly; one brother, George King, Allison.

Ohm was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, one sister, one daughter and one son-in-law.

Edward Parks

HAMPTON — Edward Parks, 75, of Hampton, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at the Franklin General Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the Zion Reformed Church, rural Sheffield, with the Rev. Michael Ploeger officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday, at the Sitsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Edward Parks was born October 25, 1922, in rural Latimer.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy, Hampton; one daughter Lois Pals, Mason City; three sons, Larry and Roy, Latimer, and Rex, Coulter; one sister, Evelyn Bass, Hampton; one brother, Clyde, Hampton; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Parks was preceded in death by his parents, one son, three sisters, and three brothers.

Robert Eugene Weber

OSAGE — Robert Eugene Weber, 65, of Osage, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. He was in the comforting and loving arms of his wife, six children and sister at the time of his death.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church, Osage, with the Rev. Jerry Newland officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery with military rites by the Osage American Legion Post 278.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Champion Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

He was born Feb. 15, 1932, in Nashua, Iowa, the son of William and Ella (Schultz) Weber. He grew up and attended schools in the New Haven area.

He married Kira Loden on Dec. 10, 1955, in Osage. He was employed by the Osage Municipal Utilities, retiring in 1994.

He was a member of the American Legion and AA in Osage.

He enjoyed bowling, golfing, woodworking, traveling, fishing, camping, and spending quality time with his family and grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Kira, Osage; mother, Ella Weber, Mason City; six children, Donna and David Hanna, and their children, Adam and Dawn, Owatonna, Minn.; Kenneth Weber and his children, Heath and Sam, Manly, Iowa; Diann and Michael Butters, and their children, Nicholas and Jeffrey, Osage; Sheryl and Kevin Gunsallus and their children, Jacqlyn, Jennifer, Jessica, Clear Lake; Theresa and Brian Farmer and their children, Daniel and Bradley, Orchard; four brothers, John Weber, Osage, Jake Weber, Clear lake, Joe Weber, Riceville, and Kenny Weber, Long Beach, Calif.; five sisters, Margaret Linderman, Mason City, Helen Schmidt, Osage, Dorothy Sullivan, Mason City, LaDonna Parker, Charles City, and Jean Friend, Glendora, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his father, one brother, and one sister.

Sharleen Kay Roth

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Sharleen Kay Roth, 58, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) in Colorado Springs.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Mountain View Mortuary Chapel, 2350 Montebello Square Drive, Colorado Springs. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, 1005 S. Hancock, Colorado Springs, Colo.

Memorials may be given to the Pikes Peak Hospice, 3630 Sinton Rd., Colorado Springs, Colo. 80907.

Sharleen Kay Roth was born May 9, 1939, in Klemme, Iowa.

She was an independent contractor in Commissary at Peter Air Force Base. She had lived in Colorado Springs since 1979, moving there from Lincoln, Neb.

She is survived by her mother, Lyda Swanson, Klemme; one son, Brent Swanson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughters, Joan Dresback and Nancy Boehm, both of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and one sister, Judi Johnson, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Ethel Kloster

FOREST CITY — Ethel Kloster, 97, of Forest City, died Monday (Dec. 8, 1997) at the Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Gary Marzolf officiating. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St.

Ethel Kloster was born Dec. 17, 1899, in Thompson.

Survivors include two daughters, Ellen McCutchen, Goldfield, and Kathleen Olson, Santa Barbara, Calif; two sons, Max Kloster, Harkers Island, N.C., and Frank Kloster, Newberg, Ore; 15 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers and one sister.

Caleb Ronald Edward Anderson

LAKE MILLS — Caleb Ronald Edward Anderson, 13-month-old son of Kathie P. Anderson and Ronald E. Luecht, died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at his home, Lake Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Victory Christian Fellowship, with the Rev. Randy Schustak officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home.

Caleb Ronald Edward Anderson was born Nov. 1, 1996, at Mercy Hospital, Mason City, the son of Kathie Anderson and Ronald Luecht.

He is survived by his mother and father, Kathie P. Anderson, of Lake Mills, and Ronald E. Luecht, Joice; one brother, Seth; maternal grandparents, June and Bernette Anderson, Albert Lea, Minn.; paternal grandparents, LeRoy and Zona Luecht, Joice; maternal great-grandparents, Kenneth and Pauline Anderson, Albert Lea, Minn.; several aunts and uncles, Kris and her husband, Nate Laugen, of Lake Mills; Dawn and her husband, John Osgood, Otranto; Theresa Carlson, Mason City; Mike Luecht, Thompson; Terry and his wife, Bobbie Luecht, of Freeborn, Minn., and Jeff Luecht, Owatonna, Minn.; along with several cousins.

He was preceded in death by an uncle, Gerald Luecht, who died in infancy.

Jerry Lee Steere

GREENE — Jerry Lee Steere, 56, of 404 S. Main St., died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at the Methodist Hospital, Rochester, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the St. Peter Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Lance Kittleson officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. Friday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene, with a 7:30 p.m. public Scripture service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

Jerry Lee Steere was born Sept. 14, 1941, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County.

Survivors include his wife, LaVon of Greene; four daughters, Tracy Elizabeth Steere, Greene, Tammy Pugh, of Grimes, Jodie Pelletier, of Alameda, Calif., and Jan Konig, of Wausau, Wis.; two grandchildren; one sister, Nancy Hadley; two brothers, Jim of Greene, and Leslie of Greene.

He was preceded in death by his brother.

CHARLES CITY — Vernon Vanberg, 85, a former resident of 905 Seventh Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Robert Eugene Weber

OSAGE — Robert Eugene Weber, 65, of Osage, died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City. He was in the comforting and loving arms of his wife, six children and sister at the time of his death.

Jerry Lee Steere

GREENE — Funeral services for Greene businessman, Jerry Lee Steere, 56, of 404 South Main St., Greene, will 10:30 a.m. Saturday (Dec, 13, 1997) at St. Peter Lutheran Church, in Greene, with Pastor Lance Kittleson, officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 9 p.m. today at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, Greene, where there will be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue Saturday at the church one hour before services.

Jerry Lee Steere was born Sept. 14, 1941, in rural Coldwater Township, Butler County, a son of Leo "Curly" and Lavon L. (Reed) Steere and died Tuesday (Dec. 9, 1997) at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn., of complications of Leukemia.

Jerry was baptized on Nov. 16, 1941 with Vern Steere and Alvin Klunder as his sponsors, and confirmed a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church on April 3, 1955.

He received his education at the Mt. Nebo country school near Greene and attended the Greene High School.

As a young man he worked on the family farm and later worked for White Farm Equipment in Charles City and farmed on his own for several years.

On Aug. 25, 1962, he was united in marriage to LaVon Jeanette Johnson at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene. To this union were born four daughters.

For 27 years, Jerry has owned and operated Steere Feed formerly known as Corner Feed Store. He was the top Nutrena dealer in the United States for over 17 consecutive years and the top Kent Dealer in his district for the last five years. Jerry always claimed his business success was due to excellent customers, hard working employees and astute territory and district managers.

Jerry will be remembered for the fly in fishing trips, day bus trips, and other trips for business and pleasure. He had many hobbies including fishing, sports, football, and his latest passion of researching, hunting and raising elk.

Living family members include his loving wife of 35 years, LaVon of Greene; four daughters, Tracy Elizabeth Steere, of Greene;, Tammy and her husband, Todd Pugh of Grimes, Jodie and her husband, Frank Pelletier, of Alameda, Calif., and Jan and her husband, Jim Konig, of Wausau, Wis.; two grandchildren, Alexandria Lee Konig and Jared Todd Pugh; his parents, Leo "Curly" and Lavon L. Steere; one sister, Nancy Hadley currently serving in the armed forces overseas; two brothers, Jim of Greene, Leslie and his wife, Deb, of Greene; a sister-in-law, Jolene Steere, of Greene; several nieces and nephews; his godchildren, Rick Steere, Angie (Steere) Ayers, Zachary Johnson and Abbey Benson.

He was preceded in death by his brother, Leon Steere, in January of 1990.

Rosalie Elizabeth Greenwalt

MANLY — Rosalie Elizabeth Greenwalt, 91, of Manly, died Thursday (Dec. 11, 1997) at the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center, in Manly.

Funeral services will be held in 10 a.m. Saturday at the Bethel United Methodist Church, Manly, with the Rev. Robert Cumings, officiating. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

The family of Rosalie Elizabeth Greenwalt has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Bethel United Methodist Church in her memory.

Rosalie Elizabeth Greenwalt was born on Sept. 8, 1906, in Marcus, Iowa, the daughter of George and Rosine (Stoecker) Greenwalt.

Rosalie moved to Manly in 1917, and attended and received her education in the Manly School system, graduating from Manly High School. She also attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years receiving her teaching certificate.

After receiving her teachers certificate, she taught school in Manly and Mason City until 1953, when she moved to Long Beach, Calif., continuing to teach until her retirement. Rosalie also completed her BA degree at Long Beach State College.

In June of 1988, she returned to Iowa living in Northwood where she lived until moving to the Manly Nursing & Rehab Center in July of 1991, and had resided there until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly, Willing Workers Church Circle, and was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter ES of Northwood.

She is survived by several cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two sisters, Ruth Greenwalt and Gertrude Garnass.

CHARLES CITY — Vernon Vanberg, 85, a former resident of 905 Seventh Ave., died Wednesday (Dec. 10, 1997) at the Salsbury Baptist Home.

Private funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Bodelson-Mahn Funeral Home, Red Wing, Minn., with the Rev. Kathryn Campbell, pastor of the Grace Episcopal Church, Charles City, officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Red Wing, Minn.

There will be no public visitation. The Hauser Funeral Home, Inc., 1205 S. Main St., Charles City is in charge of local arrangements.

Vernon Edward Vanberg was born Aug. 18, 1912, at Red Wing, Minn.

Survivors include one daughter, Diane L. Stowe, Charles City; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Francis Mlinar, of Hopkins, Minn. And Leona Geisler, of Reids Landing, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and one brother.

Memorials may be directed to the First Grace Episcopal Church or Hospice of North Iowa, both of Charles City.

Arthur Lehman Bartleson was born April 14, 1928, at Forest City.

OWATONNA, Minn. — Anna S. Helms, 88, most recently a resident of the Owatonna Health Care Center, died Thursday evening (Dec. 11, 1997) at the Owatonna Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Owatonna, Minn. Interment will be in the Steele County Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Michaelson Funeral Home, 303 South Cedar Avenue, Owatonna, Minn., and one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the donor's choice in her memory.

Anna S. Robeoltman was born Feb. 4, 1909, to Herman R. And Anna (Eilers) Robeoltman, on their farm in rural Rockwell, Iowa.

She was raised in the Rockwell area and attended and graduated from Rockwell High School in 1927. Following high school, she attended Teacher's College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She married Roland E. Helm, March 18, 1935, at St. John's Lutheran Church parsonage in Owatonna. Following their marriage, she and her husband lived in Minnesota for a year before moving to Iowa where they lived for a time before returning to Minnesota.

During her life, she and her husband farmed in various communities throughout Minnesota. In addition to farming with her husband, she had also been employed at the Owatonna and Waseca Canning Companies for many years. Mrs. Helms had also worked as the head cook of the SEMCAC Nutrition program for 10 years.

She was a very active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna, belonging to the Miriam-Rebecca and Sewing Circles there.

Anna was a very active volunteer in and around the Steele County area. She had been a longtime bell ringer for the Salvation Army, assisted with government commodities distributions, and been actively involved in the Elder Hostel programs throughout the Midwest. Anna was named recipient of the 1989 Steele County Senior Citizen of the Year.

She had also been actively involved in the Senior Place and RSVP programs, and was a member of the Owatonna Eagle's Club. She loved to spend time with her family, and especially enjoyed sitting her grandchildren. She loved dancing, playing cards, and was an excellent cook.

In the last few years, she had resided at the New Richland Health Care Center, Westside Board & Care Lodge in Owatonna, Colony Court Assisted Living in Waseca, Minn., and since 1996, she had lived at the Owatonna Health Care Center.

She is survived by daughter, Beverly and her husband, Marlin Gehring, Waseca, Minn.; son, Richard and his wife, Joyce Helms, Big Lake, Minn.; and daughter, Lorna and her husband, Paul Himmer, St. Paul, Minn.; one sister, Alma Burmeister, Mankato, Minn.; and one brother, Fred Robeoltman, Rockwell; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband in 1977, an infant daughter, and five sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, St. Joseph, with the Rev. Paul E. Eisele officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, with Otto Field Post No. 415 of the American Legion conducting military graveside rites.
