Marvin
W. Janssen, age 72, of Lake
Mills, formerly of Garner, Iowa,
died on Saturday, April 9, 2011,
at the Lake Mills Care Center in
Lake Mills, Iowa.
Funeral services
will be held at 10:30 a.m., on
Thursday, April 14, at the Salem
Lutheran Church in Lake Mills,
with Pastor David E. Jordon
officiating. Burial will take
place in the Salem Memorial
Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Visitation will be on Wednesday,
April 13, from 5-7:00 p.m., at
the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in
Lake Mills and will continue one
hour prior to the services at
the church on Thursday.
Marvin Wayne
Janssen, was born on January 8,
1939 in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to
parents Ralph and Fannie (Smidt)
Janssen. He attended and
graduated from the Buffalo
Center High School. On September
8, 1963, Marvin was united in
marriage with Janice Stokesbary
at the United Methodist Church
in Klemme, Iowa. The couple was
blessed with two daughters, Jill
and Jodi. Marvin was a general
contractor, home builder, and
partner in North Iowa Builders
until the mid-1970s. Marvin was
a skilled craftsman who loved
working with his hands, and he
built his family’s home in
Northwood among other notable
constructions. Marvin later
began a partnership-Gelner
Janssen Automation-selling farm
equipment in Klemme. He retired
in 1995 due to health concerns.
Marvin had many
hobbies and interests including
a love for golf, camping with
his family, reading, and
traveling. He and Jan took their
family on many trips when the
girls were younger going to
places such as Hawaii, Puerto
Rico, and Florida. The family
was grateful to have gone on a
trip to Disney World in December
of 2008. He was a wonderful
husband, he loved his family,
and he had a wealth of pride in
his grandchildren.
Survivors include
his wife, Janice of Lake Mills;
two daughters, Jill (Todd)
Thorson of Lake Mills and Jodi
(Jason) Cagle of Carrollton,
Texas; “Grandpa’s Team” Makenzie
and Dalton Thorson of Lake Mills
and Connor and Colton Cagle of
Carrollton, Texas; and his
mother, Fannie Janssen of Mason
City. Marvin is also survived by
a brother, Gary (Rosemary)
Janssen of Mason City; a close
family friend, Judy (Cecil)
Reyerson of Clear Lake; sisters-
and brothers-in-law, Julie
(Bill) Renner of Garner and
Jerry (Sharon) Stokesbary of
Mason City; as well as many
nieces, nephews, extended
relatives and friends.
He was preceded
in death by his father, Ralph
Janssen; brother, David Janssen;
nephew, Rory Janssen; and his
in-laws, Orville Stokesbary,
Nova (Stokesbary) Gelner and
Leon Gelner.

Mary E. Holder, 1944-2011

Mary
E. Holder, 66, of Britt, died on
Tuesday, April 12, 2011, at the
Westview Care Center in Britt.
Memorial services
were held at 11:00 a.m., on
Saturday, at the Cataldo Funeral
Home in Britt, with Rev. Joel De
Boer officiating.
Mary Elaine
Holder, the daughter of Herbert
and Agnes (Bakke) Ryerson, was
born on November 15, 1944 in
Forest City. She grew up in the
Hayfield area and graduated from
the Garner-Hayfield High School
in 1963. She married Clifford
Holder, who died in 2007. Prior
to moving to the Westview Care
Center in Britt, she had lived
in California and Arizona.
She is survived
by one sister, Donna Lackore of
Forest City; and five brothers,
Jon of Nichols, Iowa, Michael of
Anchor Point, Alaska, Douglas of
Homer, Alaska, Raymond of Garner
and Tom of St. Paul, Minnesota.
Mary was preceded
in death by her husband,
Clifford; her parents; two
sisters, JoAnn Davis and Sandra
Birkey; and two brothers, Ronald
and Jerome.

Henry "Hank" Kaduce, 1923-2011

Henry
"Hank" Kaduce, 87, of Garner,
died on Thursday, April 21,
2011, at the Hancock County
Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services were held at
1:30 p.m., on Monday, April 25,
at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel in
Garner, with Rev. Donna Buckman
officiating. Burial was in the
Concord Township Cemetery, with
military rites by the Garner
Veterans Ceremonial Unit.
Visitation will be held from
5-7:00 p.m., on Sunday at the
Cataldo Funeral Chapel and will
continue one hour prior to the
services on Monday.
Henry "Hank" Kaduce, the son of
Daniel and Sena (Ruiter) Kaduce,
was born on November 12, 1923 at
Goodell. He graduated from the
Klemme High School in 1941. Hank
served his country during WW II
in the U.S. Army Air Force. On
July 8, 1949, he married Betty
Chodur at the United Church of
Christ Parsonage in Klemme. They
lived in Klemme until 1973 when
they moved to Garner. Hank
managed the Phillips 66 gas
station in Klemme for a time and
then drove truck for Hancock
County Co-op Oil in Garner,
delivering propane to farms in
the area. After 38 years with
the Co-op he retired in 1987.
Hank also managed the Swan Motel
in Clear Lake with his wife,
Betty, for a number of years.
He enjoyed
fishing trips to Canada with his
brother-in-law, Donald Chodur
and hunting. He was a member of
the Garner VFW and American
Legion.
Hank is survived by his six
children, Marcia (Larry)
Kluckhohn of Garner, Barb
(Wayne) Eenhuis of Garner,
Jackie (Fred) Gustafson of
Parker, Corado, Peggy (James)
Nelson of Britt, Dennis Kaduce
of Redmond, Washington and David
Kaduce of Garner; 13
grandchildren; 15
great-grandchildren; a brother,
Richard (Ruth) Kaduce; two
sisters, Freda DeToy and Delores
(Don) Cole; and many nieces and
nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; wife, Betty on November
30, 2009; a brother, Ed Kaduce;
and a sister, Arlene Pommrehn.

Marvin H. Diekhuis, 1928-2011

Marvin
H. Diekhuis, 83, of Garner, died
on Monday, April 25, 2011, at
the Concord Care Center in
Garner.
Funeral services were held at
10:30 a.m., on Thursday, April
28, at the Zion Evangelical and
Reformed Church in Garner, with
Rev. Brian Lund officiating.
Burial was in the Concord
Township Cemetery. The Cataldo
Funeral Home was in charge of
the arrangements.
Marvin Herbert Diekhuis, the son
of Herbert and Martha
(Sanderfelt) Diekhuis, was born
on February 12, 1928 at Klemme.
He attended country school near
Goodell until moving to Garner
with his family where he
continued his education. On
March 20, 1950, he married
Phyllis Pierce in Litchfield,
Minnesota. Marvin worked for
farmers in the Garner area until
1956 when he began farming for
himself. He co-owned and
operated the Klemme Repair Shop
for three years and then moved
with his family to Garner and
went to work at Continental
Grain in Mason City until
retiring in 1990. Marvin also
did construction work building
homes and apartments in Garner.
In his retirement
he kept busy working for farmers
near Kanawha and mowing the
church lawn. He enjoyed spending
time with his family, playing
cards, sitting outside in his
garage watching the traffic and
people go by, gardening and, in
his earlier days, golfing and
vacationing with family.
He was a member of Zion
Evangelical and Reformed Church
in Garner.
Marvin is survived by his wife,
Phyllis, of Garner; three
children, Marlene (Dennis)
Willey of Ft. Myers, Florida,
Craig (Donna) Diekhuis of Mason
City and Jim (Jeanine) Diekhuis
of Garner; 14 grandchildren,
Angie Maiers, Michael Riechmann,
Michele (Jon) Formanek, Amy
(Matt) Kunkle, Matt Willey, Greg
Willey, Perry Diekhuis, Joshua
Diekhuis, Noah Diekhuis,
Jennifer Diekhuis, Melissa
(Chad) Stricklan, Benjamin
Diekhuis, Jessica Diekhuis and
Jacob Diekhuis; 12
great-grandchildren; two
sisters-in-law, Rita Diekhuis of
Mason City and Jeanette Diekhuis
of Clear Lake; and many nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his
parents; son, Michael on
December 11, 2007; and four
brothers, John, Irving, Herbert
and Harry Diekhuis.
