Paul
Steven Helgeson, 64, of Northwood, Iowa, died
Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2006, at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Dec. 2, at
the Evangelical Free Church, Clear Lake, with
the Rev. David Wiersbe officiating. Burial was
held in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.
The family of Paul Steven Helgeson has requested
that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions
be made to the Fairgrounds Beautification
Project in Northwood, Kim Thorsfeldt Day Spring
School in South Africa, or to the Okoboji
Lutheran Bible Camp in his memory.
Paul Steven Helgeson was born on Jan. 6, 1942,
in Story City, Iowa, the son of Kerner and
Florence (Severson) Helgeson. He attended and
graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1960,
Waldorf College in 1962, and also from Iowa
State University. Upon completing his schooling
he was a salesman for Farm Service Company in
Indianola, Iowa before moving to Northwood to
raise his family on their farm west of
Northwood. He also worked for Farm Service
Company in Worth County, and sold insurance for
Farm Bureau in Northwood. The family farmed for
25 years in the Northwood area before his
retirement moving into Northwood in 2002.
He was united in marriage to Sharon "Shar baby"
Reyerson on Aug. 1, 1964, at the Silver Lake
Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, and to this
union three children were born; Michelle, Susan,
and Steven.
He enjoyed entertaining friends, hosting bible
study groups, music, auctions, remodeling homes,
landscaping, and his mission trip to Mexico with
the Christian farmers organization, but his
great love and enjoyment was his family,
grandchildren, and countless friends. Paul was
also a special uncle to his many nieces and
nephews.
He was a member of Evangelical Free Church in
Clear Lake, First Lutheran Church in Northwood,
and the Worth County Extension Council in
Northwood.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 42
years, Sharon Helgeson of Northwood; children,
Michelle Perry and her husband, Rick, of Marion,
Iowa, Susan Kliment and her husband, Darrin, of
Northwood, and Steven Helgeson and his wife,
Katie, of Roland, Iowa; seven grandchildren,
Alyssa, Rachel, Jaclyn, and Nicholas Perry,
Caleb, Samuel, and Josiah Paul Kliment, sister;
Kathryn Helgeson of Gurnee, Ill., a brother,
Thomas Helgeson and his wife, Barbara, of
Radcliffe, Iowa, and a sister, Linda Thompson
and her husband, Dave, of Shenandoah, Iowa; many
nieces, nephews, and countless friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents;
grandson. Benjamin Perry; nephew, Douglas
Thompson; and a niece, Connie Helgeson-Moen.
Conner Colonial Chapel was in charge of
arrangements.
Viola "Vi" M.
Stokes
Viola "Vi" M. Stokes, 85, of 5851 South Shore
Dr, Clear Lake, died Friday, Dec. 1, 2006, at
the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. Funeral
services were Monday Dec. 4, at Our Savior's
Lutheran Church, Mason City, Iowa, with the Rev.
Ken Hatland officiating. Memorial may be
directed to the Vi Stokes Memorial Fund.
Viola M. (Andersen) Stokes was born July 13,
1921 to Nels C. Andersen, Sr. and Amalia
(Sorensen) Andersen at Clear Lake. She attended
Fertile, Iowa and Clear Lake schools.
Vi was united in marriage to Merlyn M. Stokes on
July 14, 1940 at Hampton, Iowa.
The couple resided in Clear Lake for a short
time and then moved to Cartersville, Iowa where
Merlyn helped on the family farm. In 1946, the
couple built and operated Maple Crest Motel and
Trailer Court on Highway 65 south of Mason City.
Merlyn passed away in 1981 and Vi continued to
operate the motel and trailer park until 1993
when she sold the business and retired to Clear
Lake.
Vi was an extremely sociable person and loved
cooking for family and friends. She was well
known for her Danish egg coffee and many friends
and relatives shared coffee sessions with her
each day. Her family which included her sisters,
a brother, her daughters, her grandsons and her
great-granddaughters were the focus of her life.
She created so many memories with her family and
friends that will be treasured always.
She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran
Church, a member of a coffee girl group for over
50 years, and a member of an investment group
that met once a month for over 20 years.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Linda
Gilson, Clear Lake; her grandsons, Eric and
wife, Sherrie Thompson, of Rantoul, Ill., Heath
and wife, Connie Thompson, of New Hope, Minn.,
and Greg Gilson, of Clear Lake; her sisters, Ann
Hill and Emma Peterson, both of Clear Lake; her
great-granddaughters, Allison and Sara Thompson,
of New Hope, Minn. and Indigo Burget of Des
Moines, Iowa; her son-in-law, Chuck Thompson, of
Rantoul, Ill. and many nieces, nephews,
grandnieces and grandnephews, and many, many
special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her
husband, Merlyn; her daughter, Kay Thompson; a
great-grandson, Casey Thompson; her sister, Ruby
Shay; and her brother, Nels C. "Gunner"
Andersen.
James A. MacDonald
James A. MacDonald, 58, of Port Charlotte, Fla.,
and a Clear Lake native, passed away on Nov. 30,
2006 at Bay Pines V.A. Hospital, Bay Pines,
Fla., after a lengthy illness. Due to his wishes
his body has been cremated. A memorial service
was held Tuesday Dec. 5, at Ward-Van Slyke
Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz
officiating. A graveside inurnment will be held
at the Clear Lake Cemetery, at a later date.
Memorials may be made in memory of James A.
MacDonald.
James was born in Munich, Germany on Feb. 17,
1948 to Lt. Jack G. and Elizabeth (Baumgartner)
MacDonald. His father was stationed in Munich
with the U.S. Army Air Corps where he flew P-47
fighter planes until he was killed in a plane
crash in late 1948. Upon his death, the family
ed to take up residence in Clear Lake.
Jim was a 1966 graduate of Clear Lake High
School where he participated in basketball and
baseball. He enjoyed all kinds of sporting
activities. He enjoyed playing cards, all types
of trivia and TV games shows. He attended the
University of Iowa and served in the U.S. Army.
Upon his discharge, he ed to Clear Lake.
Jim is survived by a sister, Susan (Adrian)
Holthaus, Decorah, Iowa; a brother, Jack (Julie)
MacDonald, Clear Lake; several nieces and
nephews; and his companion of 12 years, Holly
Kelly of Port Charlotte, Fla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and
grandparents.
Geanne Anne
Anderson
Geanne Anne Anderson, 54, of 210 East Lake
Street, Ventura, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 29,
2006, at her home.
Memorial Mass was held Saturday, Dec. 2, at St.
Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City, with the
Rev. Harry H. Koelker officiating. Inurnment was
in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North
Iowa.
Geanne Anne Redington was born Sept. 9, 1952, in
Mason City, the daughter of George and Gretchen
(Westby) Redington.
Geanne graduated from Newman Catholic High
School in 1970. She worked for Finger Hut
Corporation, Mason City; where she met Roger
Anderson. Geanne was united in marriage to Roger
on Sept. 1, 1976, in Nashua, Iowa at the Little
Brown Church. Geanne worked for Fast Food
Merchandisers and Remax Real Estate in Mason
City and Clear Lake. Geanne and Roger moved to
Manchester, Iowa in 1989, where she was the
manager broker for First State Real Estate;
until her retirement in 2000. In 2001 they moved
back to Clear Lake and Ventura area.
Geanne loved spending time with her family and
friends; especially her grandchildren. She would
take them to the Humane Society to visit the
animals. She loved animals, entertaining,
boating, sewing, and she had the touch for
interior decorating. Geanne loved traveling. The
highlight of her life was a trip to London,
where Geanne and Roger celebrated their 30th
wedding anniversary. She was a member of St.
Joseph Catholic Church.
Geanne is survived by her husband, Roger
Anderson, Ventura; children, Jon (Jodie)
Anderson, Mason City, Chadley (Lydia) Anderson,
Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Kyle, Kaylee,
Livvi, and Dane Anderson, and one soon expected
granddaughter, Nolie; siblings, Gaylee (Gerald)
Toppin, Lorimor, Greg (Gaby) Redington,
Chantilly, Va.; sister in law, Lassara Redington,
Omaha, Neb.; along with several nieces, nephews,
other relatives and friends.
Geanne is preceded in death by her parents,
George and Gretchen; brother, Garrett Redington;
and nephew, James Redington.
Doris I. McCann
Doris I. McCann, 87, of Wichita, Kansas, died
Nov. 5, 2006. Private family services were held.
Doris was born July 1, 1919, to Jens and
Kathrine Jensen in Clear Lake.
She is survived by her daughters, Jane (Mike)
Lindebak of Wichita, Ruth (Mike) Geringer of
Nixa, Mo., Judith Stockwell of Oceanside,
Calif.; seven grandchildren; six
great-grandchildren; a sister, Lainey Baker of
Clear Lake; brother, Bob (Jeanne) Jensen of
Mason City, Iowa, Roger (Martha) Jensen of
Ottertail, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Marjorie
Jensen, of Clear Lake.
She was preceded in death by her husband,
Carroll.
Frances Mae
Brown Reed
Frances Mae Brown Reed, 74, Clear Lake, IA, died
Monday, November 27, 2006 at Little Elm, TX. A
Funeral service will be held Saturday, December
9, 2006 10:30 AM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial
Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, IA, with Lay
Assistant Richard Scott officiating. Visitation
will be Saturday 9:30 AM until the service.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Forest Lawn
Memorial Park, Omaha, NE. Memorials may be given
to the Clear Lake V.F.W.
Frances was born July 30, 1932 in Colerain, NC,
the daughter of Obed Lee and Pauline (Sutton)
Brown. She married Robert Reed June 11, 1950 in
Edenton, NC. They moved to Omaha where she
worked for Mutual of Omaha. They lived in Omaha,
NE, Honey Creek, IA and moved to Clear Lake in
2000. Frances was a member of the V.F.W. Ladies
Auxiliary Post #2503 and a member of Zion
Lutheran Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children

Ann (Mrs.
Douglas) Lee
Ann (Mrs. Douglas) Lee, age 84, of Clear Lake,
died, Thursday, Nov. 30, 2006, at the Belmond
Medical Center Hospice Unit with her
family at her side following a courageous battle
with cancer.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, Dec.
4, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Clear Lake.
The Rev. John R. Telp officiated. Burial was in
the Elmwood-St Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Mason
City, Iowa.
Those wishing to express their sympathies

Ann Kloberdanz, the daughter of Frank and
Margaret (Mauer) Kloberdanz was born Dec. 11,
1921, at Britt, Iowa, the seventh of nine
children. Ann was baptized and confirmed at the
Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. She
attended Holy Family Church Elementary and High
School.
In early adulthood she she took on the
responsibility of helping to care for her ailing
mother and assisting her father in caring for
her
siblings. She then was employed as a bookkeeper
for a cleaning service in Mason City. Her people
skills, salemanship, and meticulous eye for
fashion and clothing led to her career of more
than 17 years in sales at the Style Shop in
Mason City. Her warm and friendly personality
and knowledge brought repeat clients from miles
around.
On May 5, 1948 she was united in marriage to
Douglas F. Lee at Holy Family Catholic Church in
Mason City. This union was blessed with two
daughters, Debbie and Laurie.
In 1949, Ann and Doug decided to build a lake
cottage on the south side of Clear Lake for
summer get aways. In 1958, the couple made their
cottage in Clear Lake their permanent home and
worked as a team in remodeling and expanding it
and they have lived there since.
In 1958, the couple purchased and renovated a
closed bowling alley and coffee shop in Ventura
and operated it under the name of "The Village
Inn." Ann and Doug turned the restaurant into
one of the premiere steak houses in the region,
along with a thriving bowling operation. In 1968
they sold the business and it's named was
changed to what is known today as The Colony Inn
in Ventura.
Following retirement from the restaurant, Ann
became a full time mother and house wife to her
two daughters and husband, though she
occasionally worked part-time at Clear Lake
clothing stores and for the schools, while her
husband ed to his business known as Lee's
Construction, Inc..
Ann and her husband loved to attend farmer's
markets and her delicious pies and pastries were
treasured by numerous customers around the area.
Many knew her as "The Pie Lady." Her desserts
and salesmanship made her the top seller on many
ocassions, even receiving media recognition for
rapid sellouts at the markets.
She was always busy seeing to the needs of her
family with love, kindness, and devotion. She
was a meticulous house keeper; always making
sure everything had a place. Her hobbies were
numerous including crocheting, sewing,
collecting, and saving, raising a lovely garden
and flowers, as well as taking an excursion to
play the slots. She loved shoes and clothes and
always had to be sure everything coordinated.
Ann absolutely relished going shopping and
planned for Christmas by buying gifts for her
family throughout the entire year. Ann truly was
a devoted mother, wife, grandmother,
mother-in-law, and sibling. She cherished each
and every opportunity to be with her family, no
matter what the occasion. She always wanted to
make sure that eveyone else's needs were taken
care of before her own. For many years she,
Doug, and Laurie, traveled to Chatsworth, Calif.
to visit Debbie and help with work around their
property and took family journey's to various
other places. She also looked forward to family
camping trips, teaching her girls etiquette,
golfing, and loved seeing the Pope and Jimmy
Carter.
She and her husband loved to dine out and go
ballroom dancing. For the past 12 years they
operated the Red Barn Antiques and Craft Store
in Clear Lake. She loved her church and was
devout catholic, as a member of St. Patrick's
Catholic Church she would help with providing
and serving of food at funerals and on other
occassions. She also was always there when
needed by her children, whether it was covering
the funeral home phones for Laurie and Tony,
watching her grandson and apple of her eye, Zach
Andrews, watching the pets, or helping out with
Debbie and Dale's various activities on their
ranch in Clear Lake.
For the past nine and one-half years she was one
of the best grandmothers that one could ever ask
for, surrounding her grandson Zachary with
bountiful love and devotion. Their love and bond
was inseparable.
Those who knew Ann well will remember her as
gentle, yet stubborn. She was somewhat quiet on
first acquaintance, but warmly received those
who were in her presence calling them by first
name. She was a lady's, lady.
Her family will truly miss their relationship
with Ann as a devoted wife of 58 years, loving
mother, and loving Grandma Ann. As a
mother she was also a "best friend" who always
had time for them. They will cherish memories of
delectable dinners and desserts, and all the fun
and love shared with her at gatherings,
celebrations, and other occassions. They will
miss her companionship, tender care, and the
daily conversations shared with her on the phone
or in person. Her loving support, as the number
one cheerleader in everything that they did.
Those left to cherish the legacy of her life and
mourn her death, include her husband of over 58
years, Douglas F. Lee, of Clear Lake,
currently residing with his daughter, Laurie, in
Belmond; daughter, Debbie Anderson and husband,
Dale, Clear Lake; daughter, Laurie Andrews and
husband, Tony, Belmond; her grandson, Zachary
Andrews, Belmond; a brother, John Kloberdanz and
wife, Jo, Uba City, Calif.; very special
relatives, Margaret Lee, and Doug H. "Dude" Lee
and wife, Phyllis, all of Mason City; numerous
nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives
and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; an
infant son, "Baby Boy Lee"; four brothers,
Frank, George, Peter, and Joseph; two sisters,
Margaret and Pauline.
Andrews Funeral Home, Belmond, was in charge of
arrangements.
