Christina L. Olsen


Christina L. Olsen, age 88, most recently a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center, a long time resident of Klemme, Iowa, died, Thursday, April 27, 2006 at the Belmond Health Care Center.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 1, at the Klemme United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paddy Druhl officiated. Burial was in the Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.
Christina Louise Schwartz, the daughter of Pearl and Celia (Bergman) Schwartz, was born Jan. 4, 1918 on her parent's farm in Titonka, Iowa. She attended school in Wesley, Iowa, until moving to Klemme in 1929 with her family.
Christina was united in marriage to Melvin Olson on Feb. 27, 1937. To this union were born two sons, Merlyn and Roger. She later married Arlin Olsen on July 6, 1946 at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with two sons, Harland and Randy, and a daughter, Corrine (Susie).
Following their marriage they resided in the Clear Lake/Ventura area before moving back to Klemme.
Throughout her entire life Christina was a homemaker and devoted wife, life partner, and business partner with her husband, Arlin. She was a loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved anything that meant she would be able to spend time in the company of her family.
Christina was employed in a variety of different occupations. She worked as a housekeeper for many area families and had worked in numerous restaurants including Gerardi's Cafe, Duke's Cafe, the Soft Spot (ice cream shop) and the Slippery Elm Golf Course, all in Klemme. She drove school bus for many years beginning in 1973, and helped Arlin drive truck, and assisted with the shelling and transporting of corn with her husband, all the while raising five children. Many will remember her excellent seamstress skills.
In addition to her many hobbies and interests, Christina had been very active in the United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Miriam Circle for over 50 years and the UMW. She belonged to the Klemme American Legion Auxiliary Unit # 625 for 40 years. Christina had been a resident of the care center since March of 2005.
Those left to cherish the legacy of her life include her sons, Merlyn and wife, Audrey, Santa Maria, Calif., Harland and wife, Janet, Mason City, Iowa, and Randy and wife, Monica, Garner, Iowa; her daughter, Corrine (Susie) Olsen, Klemme; daughter-in-law, Linda Olson, Ventura; sister, Caroline Kluckhohn and husband, Kenneth, Klemme; a sister-in-law, Jean Schwartz, Belmond; nine grandchildren, Doni and husband, Bill Schaefer, Denette Olson, DeAnne and husband, Mike Luis, Dan and wife, Eenja Olson, Greg and wife, Kim Olson, Ryan and wife, Tina Olsen, Shannon and husband, Gary Graves, Jim Olsen, and Jenn Olsen; 16 great-grandchildren, Will, Sarah and Evan Schaefer, Lane, Levi, and Aubrey Luis, Jacob, Daniel, and Nicole Olson, Zachary and Caitlin Olson, Riley and Wyatt Olsen, Alex, Bailey, and Maria Graves.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Celia Schwartz; husband, Arlin on Aug. 26, 2005; son, Roger Olson on March 4, 1997; two brothers, Herbert and Harold Schwartz and an infant sister.

 


Patrick Scherber


Patrick (Pat) Scherber, age 57, of 3512 North Shore Drive, Clear Lake, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa following a valiant effort to manage the cancer that had been recently diagnosed. A celebration of his life was held Friday, April 28, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clear Lake with Lay Assistant Richard L. Scott officiating. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Patrick J. Scherber Memorial Fund.
Patrick was born July 7, 1948 in Minneapolis, Minn. to Marvin and Sarah (Gutzwiller) Scherber. He was baptized on July 18, 1948 at St. Martin's in Rogers, Minn., and received his First Holy Communion on Oct. 25, 1954 at St. Henry's in Monticello, Minn. He graduated from Monticello High School in 1966 and Bemidji State College with a degree in education in 1970. He worked in a number of school districts in Minnesota including St. Cloud, St. Peter, Cold Spring, Garden City, Thief River Falls, Windom and Pipestone as a general or special education teacher and later as a special education consultant while continuing to pursue his master's degree in special education, and later a second degree from Winona State University.
In 1978 he moved to Iowa and began working as a special education consultant for Northern Trails AEA 2 and later AEA 267. He worked in many districts across north Iowa, touching the lives of numerous students and their families. He retired in June of 2005 due to health reasons.
In November 1983, Pat received a kidney from his brother, Mike, and it was a great blessing as the kidney worked well up to his final days.
On June 21, 1986, Pat married Connie Jeane Schmidt in Klemme, Iowa. They made their home in Clear Lake, where Pat also owned and managed several apartments. Connie and Pat were the parents of twin daughters, Annette and Kimberly, born Dec. 3, 1991. They were the joy of his life and he enjoyed talking to them about life lessons, memories and cars. Pat also purchased, refurbished and sold late model cars with the help of his brother. He enjoyed discussing car "ailments" with friends and family and keeping up with the latest models and designs.
He is survived by his wife, Connie Scherber; his twin daughters, Ann and Kim; a brother, Mike Scherber of Monticello, sister-in-law, Nancy Scherber of Monticello; aunts, Meralda Branden and Toots Hickler of Monticello, Sally Ronning of Buffalo, Minn., and Florence Gutzwiller of St. Michael, Minn.; parents-in-law, Luverne and Mary Ann Schmidt of Klemme, brothers-in-law, Lonnie (Chris) Schmidt of Goodell, Iowa, Jamie (Beth) Schmidt of Garner, Iowa and Steve (Chris) Schmidt of Dallas Center, Iowa; nieces and nephews, Karri, Kasey, and Kelsie Scherber, Leah (Mark) Reinert, Adam, Stephanie, Brittney, Brianna, Kari, and Jackie Schmidt.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Sarah Scherber.

 


Dallas Johnson


Dallas Wayne Johnson, 85, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Wayne was born on Sept. 18, 1920, in Eddyville, Iowa, the son of Charles William and Maude (Dotts) Johnson. He graduated from Eddyville High School in 1938 and worked at the telephone company prior to entering the service.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps (Air Force) and served his country during World War II in the European Theater flying over 60 combat missions from air bases in England, France and Italy. Upon ing to the States he married Esther Van Loon of Oskaloosa, Iowa on Jan. 12, 1946.
Wayne began his career as a gasoline transport driver and terminal manager for Skelly Oil Company in 1946 in Clear Lake. He was proud to say he drove over one million miles without an accident. He retired from Skelly in 1981 after 35 years of dedicated service.
Wayne maintained a lifelong interest in airplanes and flying, and devoted much of his time following retirement to tracking the stock market and monitoring his investments. He received much pleasure in watching and sharing in the lives of his two grandchildren.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 60 years, Esther Eileen (Van Loon) Johnson; two children, Eileen Sue Johnson of St. Paul, Minn. and Steven Wayne Johnson and wife, Marilyn (Van Duzer) Johnson of Clear Lake; two grandchildren, Abbie Leigh Smith and husband, Jason Smith, of Mesa, Az. and Gregory Lee Johnson and fiancée, Anne Johnson, of West Des Moines, Iowa; a cousin, Stanley Steel, Ottumwa; the Maloy family of Eddyville, Iowa; Lois (Dotts) Gorman and family, Altoona, Iowa; and Bruce Dotts of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A family memorial service was held at Hospice Mercy Center in Mason City. The family requests any memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Wayne will be buried in the family plot at Highland Cemetery in Eddyville, Iowa at a later date.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of the arrangements.

 


James McClary


James Edward McClary, 46, of Sioux City, Iowa, died Sunday, April 23, 2006 at his home, surrounded by family and friends. Funeral services were held Thursday, April 27, at Morningside Presbyterian Church. Burial was in Calvary Cemetery.
James was born Jan. 23, 1960 in Sioux City, the son of Robert and Frances (Martineck) McClary. He grew up in Sioux City and Attended Sioux City schools, graduating from West High School, where he served as class president, in 1978. He graduated from the University of Iowa in 1982 with a degree in communications and received a Masters Degree in counseling from Wayne State College. He married Cynthia A. Miller on Sept. 7, 1990 in Mason City, Iowa.
Jim was the past director of the Sylvan Learning Center in Sioux City and was previously employed at WIT in student affairs.

Jim enjoyed all sports and was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Minnesota Twins. When attending games, he loved to eat hot dogs and ballpark food. He enjoyed collecting all types of baseball memorabilia. He was also a Hawkeyes fan.
Jim had a love of life and never met a stranger. He had a contagious laugh and loved to be around family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cindy, of Sioux City; his father, Robert McClary of Sioux City; seven brothers and sisters, Ginger Martin and her husband, Howard, of Anthon, Iowa, Pamela Sawyer and her husband, Larry, of Sioux City, Chuck McClary and his wife, Melinda, of Sioux City, Robert McClary and his wife, Cathy, of Sioux City, Teresa Bell and her husband, John, of Houston, Texas, Candace Sweeney and her husband, Kevin, of Columbus, Ohio, and Scott McClary of Sioux City; his mother and father-in-law, Shirley and Tom Miller, of Clear Lake; brothers and sisters-in-law, Mark and Cathy Miller, Ames, Iowa and Beth and Scott Christensen, Rockford, Ill.; many nieces and nephews; aunts; uncles; cousins and a cat, Emma.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Frances.
Memorials may be made in his named to Hospice of Siouxland or the June E. Nylen Cancer Center.

Dale Butts

Dale Arthur Butts, 82, of Clear Lake, died Sunday, May 07, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m., Friday, May 12, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th Street, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. There will be military honors at the funeral home on Friday by the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Friday at the chapel.
Dale Arthur Butts was born on Jan. 5, 1924, in DeKalb, Ill., the son of Arthur Guy and Edna Lillian (Shaffer) Butts. He attended Clear Lake Community School, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1942. Dale was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1943, and served overseas in Italy during World War II. After his honorable discharge Dale ed to the Clear Lake area and was united in marriage to Ruth Quinlan on Feb. 2, 1948, at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City. She preceded him in death. Dale worked as a well driller for several years until his health prevented him from continuing this type of work. Dale also worked for the Stewart Realty and Lake Realty in Clear Lake. In 1969, Dale began working for various pump manufacturers in the San Francisco, Calif. area until his retirement in 1986. He was united in marriage to Mary Olson on Aug. 4, 1988, in Mason City.
Dale enjoyed watching western movies, yard work, and helping his neighbors. He was also a history buff.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Butts of Clear Lake; children, Timothy D. Butts, Brooklyn Park, Minn., Sue Harp of Tacoma, Wash., Jane Baker and her husband, Gilbert, of Hollister, Calif., and Steven Cash and his wife, Echo, of Kansas City, Mo., 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a special friend and companion, his dog Taz; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Thomas Arthur Butts; wife, Ruth Butts, and a sister, Arvetta Peterson.

 


Garnette Hockaday

Garnette S. Hockaday, 95, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away May 1, 2006 at The Maples at Har-Ber Meadows.
Garnette was born Aug. 15, 1910 in Sac City, Iowa to Colonel and Orpha Volkerts.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, William R. McBee and her second husband, M.J. "Charlie" Hockaday.
Survivors include her sons, William A. McBee and his wife, Dr. Sara McBee and Thomas L. McBee, both of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Mike and his wife, Tiffany, of Rogers, Steven and wife, Natalie, Fayetteville, Peter and wife, Lori, of Johnson, Shannon and her husband, Danie Ratcliff, Sante Fe, New Mexico; five great-grandchildren, Preston, Parker, Katie, Beck and Gavin.
Cremation arrangements are by Nelson-Berna Funeral Home and Crematory of Fayetteville.

 


Brad Suby

Bradley "Brad" Jon Suby, 49, of 3515 Eagle Ave, Fertile, Iowa, died Wednesday May 3, 2006 at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa. Memorial services were held Saturday, May 6, at the Fertile Lutheran Church with Lay Pastor Dave Halverson officiating.
Inurnment was in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile.
The family suggests memorials to the Brad J. Suby Memorial Fund.
Brad was born March 27, 1957, in Mason City, the son of Robert & Betty (Johnson) Suby. He was a graduate of Forest City High School in 1975. Brad married Nancy Halsne Aug. 20, 1977 at Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake. Brad has been employed by the Iowa Department of Transportation at Hanlontown, Iowa for the past 16 years. He enjoyed fishing and golfing but especially spending time with his family and grandchildren; two dogs, Tipper Jon and Sam and grand-dogs, Cally Jo and Gizmo.
Brad was a member of the Fertile Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Suby; two daughters, Stacy (Brian) Walker and Emily Suby; mother, Betty Suby, all of Fertile; two grandchildren, Alyson and Jenna Walker; a brother, Steve (Joyce) Suby of Marion, Iowa; three sisters, Sheila (Mark) Enderson of Lake Mills, Iowa; Brenda (Bob) Jones, Fertile, Lisa (Mike) Lacey of Clear Lake; mother-in-law, Adoline Halsne, of Clear Lake; two brothers-in-law, Alan (Helen) Halsne of Laurel, Mont. and Mark Halsne of Lodi, Calif.; several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Brad in death were his father, Robert Suby; father-in-law, Magnus Halsne; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Prestholt and brother-in-law, Hugh Prestholt.

 


Roland Bohlen

Roland F. "Satch" Bohlen, 76, of 807 W 10th Ave N. Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Graveside service was held Monday, May 8, at the Alexander Cemetery, Alexander, Iowa. with the Rev. Mark Young officiating.
Roland was born Nov. 18, 1929 at Alexander to Frank and Ella (Beenan) Bohlen.
Roland graduated from Alexander High School in 1947 and then attended business school. He worked as an insurance adjuster throughout Iowa and transferred to Clear Lake in 1976. After retiring he worked for the Globe Gazette for 15 years.
Roland enjoyed woodworking, photography, traveling, playing cards, hunting and going down to Andy's for coffee.
Roland is survived by his wife, Judy Bohlen; a daughter, Lori Starr and her husband, Tim; two grandchildren, Jeff and Julie Starr, all of Clear Lake; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Delores Lavender.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of arrangements.

 


Richard and Joan Hughes

Inurment graveside services for Richard and Joan Hughes, Clear Lake, will be held Saturday, May 20, 11 a.m., at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Msgr. Joseph Slepika will be officiating. Military Honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Arrangements were made by Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel.
Richard Robert Hughes, 80, died Jan. 2, 2006 at the Manly Care Center, Manly, Iowa. Joan V. Hughes, 65, died March 11, 2006 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City, Iowa.

 


Irvin V. "Mac" McGowan

Irvin V. "Mac" McGowan, 90, 302 2nd St. N.E., Mason City, Iowa, died Friday, May 12, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City. Mac's wish was that his body would be cremated. Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel of Clear Lake was in charge of the cremation services.
Memorial service was held Monday, May 15, at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel. Inurnment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery.
Irvin was born Aug. 30, 1915, in Mason City, the son of Harmond and Marie (Butterbaugh) McGowan. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1933. Mac worked at the Sugar Beet Plant, Merkel's Dept. Store and the JC Penny Dept. Store. Mac was united in marriage to Genevieve Sanford on July 9, 1942, in Kirkwood, Mo. To this union four children were born. He entered into the United States Navy where he served as Seaman Electrician 2nd Class on the USS Iowa during WWII, later being honorably discharged. After the war he worked various jobs in a few Iowa communities before settling in Clear Lake in 1950. Mac worked as a route salesman for the Clear Lake Bakery, retiring in 1978. He enjoyed playing cards, golfing, woodworking, sports, and playing pool; his greatest love was spending time with family, friends and especially his great-granddaughter, Paige. After Gen passed away in 2000, Mac greatly enjoyed joining the Clear Lake Senior Citizens Center, where wonderful friendships were developed along with some entertaining games of pool. In February of 2005, Mac moved to Apple Valley Assisted Living where more special friendships were made. In December of 2005, Mac moved to Good Shepherd Care Center. He attended the First Church of Christ Scientist.
Mac is survived by three children, Richard McGowan, Clear Lake, Marlene Steenblock, Clear Lake, and Jim (Kathy) McGowan, Marietta, Ga.; daughter-in-law Sharon (Jim) Pearson, Glendale, Az., four grandchildren; Cordi Juhler, Omaha, Neb., Trent (Kelle) Steenblock, Woodbury, Minn., Jessie Steenblock, Brainerd, Minn., and Michael McGowan, Marietta, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Paige Genevieve Steenblock, Woodbury, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Hazel Mae McGowan, Bettendorf, Iowa, Flora Sanford, Ellsworth, Iowa, Thelma Sanford, Fairmont, Minn., Verda (James) Trauger, Livermore, Iowa, Donna (Allmon) Hovick, Fort Dodge, Iowa, Jolene (Milton) Wilhelm, LuVerne, Joanne (Marv) Melling, Fort Dodge, Romona (Bobby) Caudle, Ellsworth; brother in law, Wayne (Georgiann) Sanford, Algona, Iowa along with many loving nieces and nephews.
Mac is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Genevieve; son, Stanley McGowan; brothers, Alden, Harold, and Merlin McGowan.

 


Elizabeth V. "Lizabeth" McEniry

Elizabeth V. "Lizabeth" McEniry 78, of 1322 North Shore Drive, died Monday, May 22, 2006, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.
Funeral mass will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 25, 2006, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1001 9th Ave. South, with Msgr. John Hemann officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City. Visitation will be held Wednesday at Ward Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, from 5-7 p.m. with a scriptural wake service at 6:30 p.m. followed by a rosary service. There will be one hour of visitation prior to the funeral at the church Thursday.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and Humane Society, Mason City.
Elizabeth V. Sheehan was born Jan. 31, 1928, in Winner, S.D., the daughter of William and Margaret (McDonald) Sheehan. Elizabeth attended catholic schools in Des Moines. She was a consumer shopper at Safeway in Des Moines for 17 years. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Louie K. Mead Dec. 26, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa; to this union two children were born. She moved to Clear Lake in 1976. She worked for Ben Hall at Bix Furniture Antique Restoration as a furniture refinisher and as a hostess at the Regatta Inn in Clear Lake. She was united in marriage to Thomas J. McEniry on Aug. 26, 1978, in Las Vegas, Nev.
Liz loved collecting antiques and shopping; her greatest love was spending time with family and friends. She touched the hearts of everyone she met. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church. "My daily thinking: honor and love God and your family, and if you can make someone happy, you will be happy too!"
She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas J. McEniry, Clear Lake; daughter, Debra A. (Ken) Schroeder, Clear Lake; granddaughter, Jessica E. Guess, Des Moines; sisters, Patricia Reynolds, Des Moines, Mary O'Connor, Rockville, Md., and Janet Boesen, Boone, Iowa; sister-in-law, Shirley Sheehan, Barrington, Ill; stepchildren, Mike (Pam) McEniry, Rockford, Iowa, Steve McEniry, Bainbridge Island, Wash., and Linda (Craig) Humburg, Clear Lake; step-grandchildren, Rachel McEniry, Kelsey McEniry, Derek Humburg, Luke Humburg; along with many loving aunts, nieces, nephews, friends, and her puppy, Miss Trina.
She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Margaret Sheehan; son, David W. Mead; brothers, John W. "Bill" Sheehan, James Robert Sheehan; brothers-in-law, Thomas Reynolds, Joseph O'Connor, John W. Boesen, and her dearest companion puppies, Smokey and Miss Daisy.

 


Givens "Buddy" C. Lugar

Givens "Buddy" C. Lugar, 516 Carolina Ave. South, Mason City, Iowa, died Saturday, May 20, 2006, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, May 24, at the United Methodist Church, 508-2nd Ave. North, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Hwy 122 East, Mason City, with military honors by the Clear Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4868 of Clear Lake.
The family of Givens "Buddy" C. Lugar has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, or to the Mercy Cancer Center in Mason City, in his memory.
Givens C. Lugar was born on Aug. 10, 1947, in Mason City, the son of Dorsie Conrad and Norma Genell (Ward) Lugar. He attended and received his education in the Clear Lake School system, graduating from Clear Lake High School in 1966. He was inducted into the U.S. Air Force on Sept. 27, 1966 in Des Moines, Iowa and served overseas in Thailand during the Viet Nam conflict, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 25, 1970 at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, Fla. After serving his country honorably, Buddy ed to the Clear Lake area and began working for Life Time Motor Homes in Mason City until its closing. He then started working for Schneider Metals which is now called IMI Cornelius and continued to work for them for 33 years until the time of his death.
Buddy enjoyed dancing, plants, coin and rock collecting, collecting state quarters for his grandchildren, riding his bike, Jumbles puzzle, being a Roady with the Harry O Experience, and visiting with his friends at the Pro's Sandwich Shop in Mason City, but his great love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake, life member of the VFW Post #4868, Clear Lake, and the Moose Lodge in Mason City.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Dawn Barber and her husband, Dennis, of Fond Du Lac, Wis., Denise Miller of Mason City, and Justin Lugar and his wife, Kelly, of Garner, Iowa; five grandchildren, Tyler Miller, Bria Miller, Charles Barber, Alayna Barber and an expected Lugar grandchild; a brother, James Lugar of Austin, Minn., two sisters, Marilea Wheeler of Clear Lake, and Sara Ouverson and her husband, Dennis, of Clear Lake; special friends at the Pro's Sandwich Shop in Mason City, Earl Strait of Mason City, and Dorothy Bohl of Mason City; and special dogs, Toby and Luke; as well as other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother; Daniel Curtis Lugar.

Lynelle "Nel" Hunsaker 

Lynelle "Nel" Hunsaker, 18, of 714 S. 3rd St., Clear Lake, went to be with her Savior Jesus Christ May 18, 2006 at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minn. from injuries sustained from a motorcycle accident that happened May 9, 2006 in Clear Lake.
A celebration of life was held Monday, May 22, at 1:30 p.m., at Agape Christian Family Church, Clear Lake. Interment was in the Clear Lake Cemetery. The family asks that in lieu of flowers that memorials be made in memory of Nel to establish a scholarship fund.
Nel was born in Des Moines, Iowa the daughter of Pastor Will and Joyce (Quinlin) Hunsaker. She also lived briefly in Winfield, Iowa, but then moved to Clear Lake. Lynelle attended K-12 in Clear Lake and was to graduate with honors on Sunday, May 21, where she was scheduled to deliver one of two graduation addresses to her classmates. She participated in band, chorus, Student Council, National Honor Society, was a Dare role model, a music letter winner, and a four year National Academics winner. Following high school she planned on attending NIACC and then transfer to North Central in Minneapolis, Minn. for pastoral studies.
Nel was a free spirit who was not afraid to express her views; "intense" and "determined" are words her friends often used to describe her. She taught and participated at the Clear Lake Open Bible Camp in Ventura and was very involved in music, her church and was on the worship team. Of all the things she stood for, she would want it to be known that Jesus was her Lord and Savior. It was her passion to live her life in service for Him. She was a member of First Church of the Open Bible, Clear Lake and the National Honor Society.

Nel will be sadly missed by her parents Pastor Will and Joyce Hunsaker, Clear Lake; brother, Travis Hunsaker and his wife, Heather, Clear Lake; grandparents, LeRoy and Verna Quinlin, Winfield, Iowa and Neil and Linda Hunsaker, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two uncles, Gary Quinlin, and his companion, Leslie Johnson, Kenmore, Wash. and Cliff Hunsaker and his wife, Stacy, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; two aunts, Lisa Diener and her husband, Dan, Mt. Pleasant, and Debra Linville, Muscatine, Iowa; four cousins, Jodi Hunsaker, Mt. Pleasant, Spencer Kephart, Mt. Pleasant, Megan Kephart, Mt. Pleasant, and Craig Linville, Muscatine, Iowa.
Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel was in charge of services.

 


Steven D. Bledsoe

Steven D. Bledsoe, 49, of 308 7th Ave. South, Clear Lake, died Thursday, May 18, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
A memorial service was held Tuesday, May 23, at the Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Will Hunsaker officiating. Inurnment was in Clear Lake Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Steven D. Bledsoe Memorial Fund.
Steven Douglas Bledsoe was born June 9, 1956, in Mason City, the son of John and Patricia (Neal) Bledsoe.
Steve graduated from Clear Lake High School. He married Kathy Prather, his high school sweetheart and the love of his life. They were united in marriage Aug. 30, 1974, in Mason City.
Steve worked for Minnesota Rubber, Mason City Mill Work, and currently was employed with Speedy Delivery. Steve was an avid outdoorsman and loved being afield with his dog and close friends, Tom Smith and Matt Larsen. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, rummage sales, and antiquing. He was very outgoing and friendly. He could start up a conversation with anyone anywhere. Steve greatly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his nieces and nephews.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy Bledsoe, Clear Lake; father, John J. Bledsoe, Clear Lake; siblings, Roger (Nancy) Bledsoe, Minneapolis, Minn., Donna (Marvin) Prescott, Lake Mills, John David (Barbara) Bledsoe, Galesburg, Ill., and Linda (Steve) Dickersbach, Melvern; mother-in-law, Veronica "Bonnie" Prather; brother-in-law, Michael Prather; sister-in-law, Susan (Mark) Janssen; brother-in-law, Howard Prather, sister-in-law, Jane Query; along with numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and friends.
Steve is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Bledsoe and father-in-law, William "Jack" Prather.

 


Olivia Grace Neuberger


Olivia Grace Neuberger
, 16, of 9709 Grouse Ave., Clear Lake, went to be with her loving Savior Jesus Christ Sunday, May 28, 2006, following injuries sustained from a car accident Wednesday, May 24.
A service celebrating the life of Olivia will be held Thursday, June 1, 1:30 p.m., at Agape Family Christian Church, 2810 Hwy. 18 W., Clear Lake, with Pastor Jeff Dahlin of Praise Community Church officiating. Interment will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service at the church, beginning at noon.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials may be directed to the Olivia Grace Neuberger Memorial Fund.
Olivia was born April 29, 1990, in Mason City, Iowa, the daughter of Douglas and Sandra (Arthur) Neuberger.
Olivia was a freshman at Clear Lake High School where she was involved in basketball, cheerleading, choir, track and dance. She was also an honorary art student, academic scholar, D.A.R.E. role model and a member of the student council. Olivia's personality can't be summed up by activities or achievements, but her beautiful smile and sweet spirit will be dearly missed.
Olivia was an active member of Praise Community Church, Mason City. Because of her love for God and compassion for others, Olivia chose to give the gift of life through organ donation.
Those left to cherish her memory are her parents, Doug and Sandy Neuberger, Clear Lake; siblings, Rachelle Sari Neuberger, Los Angeles, Calif., Spencer Beau Neuberger, Cedar Falls, Iowa, Elliott Arthur Neuberger, Clear Lake; maternal grandparents, Elmer and Phyllis Arthur, Mason City; paternal grandparents, Don and Dariel Neuberger, Clear Lake; aunts and uncles, Sheryl Arthur, Joel Arthur, Jim Arthur, Jeff and his wife, Jacquelyn, Arthur, all of Mason City, Dennis Neuberger, Clear Lake, Diane and her husband, David Sander, Orlando, Fla., and Debra and her husband, Joseph Lesch, Charlotte, N.C. along with other relatives and friends.
