ROCHESTER, Minn. - Barbara Ellen Erbe, 75, of Rochester, Minn., died on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012, at Sunrise Senior Living in Rochester, Minn.

Kathryn C. Espinosa

MASON CITY - Kathryn C. Espinosa, 85, formerly of Mason City, died peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, at her niece's home in Atlantic.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Rodney M. Allers as Celebrant. Committal services will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the Mass on Tuesday at Holy Family Catholic Church.

Kathryn Cecilia Espinosa was born on Nov. 9, 1926, in Mason City, the daughter of Pablo and Petra Espinosa. She attended Mason City schools and went to work for Armour in Mason City, where she would work until her eventual retirement. She was an avid softball player, and was inducted into the River City Hall of Fame for her accomplishments. She was also an active participant in bowling leagues, having won many trophies over the years.

In her free time, Kathryn enjoyed fishing, playing cards, tending to her garden and meeting her friends for coffee. Kathryn had a heart of gold and cherished the time spent with family. She loved to see her nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, always having a small treat for them anytime they'd visit. Kathryn also had a love for animals, and particularly for her dogs, which were always at her side and held a special place in her heart.

She was also a devoted and lifelong member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was also a member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
Kathryn is survived by two sisters, Susan Rubalcava, and Della (Jerome) Dix; two brothers, Lawrence (Gladys) Espinosa, and Paul "Blackie" (Mavis) Espinosa; and many nieces and nephews as well as great-nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Tony Lopez, John Espinosa, Leo Espinosa, and Floyd Espinosa; and her sisters, Mildred Garnica, Martha Baltierra, Francis Espinosa and Josephine Chavez.

Harold J. "Bud" Haugen

WODEN - Harold J. "Bud" Haugen, 83, of Woden, died Monday, Aug. 27, 2012, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 6, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Woden with the Revs. Bob Wolfert and Jon Rollefson officiating. Burial will be at Grant Lutheran Cemetery, rural Woden, with military rites by the Woden Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be 4:30-7 p.m. Wednesday at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Woden and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Harold Junior "Bud" Haugen was born Sept. 16, 1928, to Ole Haugen and Elizabeth (Gjertson) Haugen on a farm north of Woden. He was baptized and confirmed at Grant Lutheran Church, rural Woden. He attended rural schools in Winnebago County. Bud did farm work until he was 17 years old when he enlisted in the Navy. He was stationed in San Diego, Calif., Honolulu, and Shanghai, China, serving four years.
 
For several years Bud did road construction work. He later worked for the Woden Co-op Elevator and for 23 years doing concrete work for North Iowa Grain in Garner, until he retired.

Bud enjoyed bowling, going to tournaments, fishing in Canada, watching western movies and the History Channel. He especially enjoyed spending time and playing cards with his nieces, great nieces and great nephews.
He is survived by three sisters and four brothers: Gerdis Haugen of Woden, Russell (Colleen) Haugen of Thompson, Alice (Gunter) Walkusch of Loveland, Colo., John (Debra) Haugen of Klemme, Betty (Norris) Anderson of Thompson, Donald (Liv) Haugen of Bergen, Norway and Ole Haugen of Los Angeles, Calif.
 
Buddy was very much loved by his nieces and nephews, Julie Haugen, Colleen Walkusch, John (Denis) Walkusch, Deanna Haugen, Diana Myers, James (Tuesday) Haugen, Nancy (David) Moklestad, Jason (Laura) Haugen, Elizabeth Ann Haugen (Thomas Calder) and Cathrine Haugen; great- nieces and nephews, Ryan Keck, Sean and Logan Mayfield, Jonathan Burress, Samantha Haugen, Megan Moklestad, Alexis and Nicholas Myers, Alexander and Joshua Haugen, Samuel and William Haugen, Albert Calder, Dawn (Alex) Zaharis, Annah, Kadence and Harper Sue Zaharis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Bernice, brother, Elliott; and sister-in-law, Gloria Haugen.

Ralph O. Nappe

MANTORVILLE, Minn. - Ralph O. Nappe, 87, of Mantorville, Minn., died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, Minn.

A memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service at the Hansen Goodview Chapel, in Goodview, Minn., with visitation one hour prior. The Rev. Tim Nappe will officiate.

Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona, Minn., with full military honors provided by the American Legion Leon J. Wetzel Post No. 9.

Wesley Chambers
U.S. Navy   WWII

CHARLES CITY - Wesley Chambers, 90, of Charles City, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2012, at Colonial Manor in Elma.

Funeral services for Wesley Chambers will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Hauser Funeral Home. Pastor Jason Boyd of Faith Bible Chapel will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City. Military honors will be conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, and on Tuesday an hour prior to the service.

Wesley Glenn Chambers was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Floyd County, the son of Clayton and Nellie (Hildebrand) Chambers. He attended school north of Colwell. Wesley farmed with his father until enlisting in the United States Navy on Dec. 7, 1942. After his discharge, he worked for a brief time at Oliver Corporation.

On Nov. 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to Zella Betty Wood at Marble Rock. They farmed south of New Haven from 1947 to 1949, when they moved to a farm southeast of Colwell. In 1974, they purchased the Colwell Bar and ran it for several years. Wesley enjoyed agriculture and was a farmer at heart. He was a member of the V.F.W. and served on the board of directors of the Colwell Co-op for a brief time.

Living family members include three children, Leo (Denise) Chambers of Lakeville, Minn., Donald (Janet) Chambers of Ionia and Dennis (Lishia) Chambers of Alta Vista; eight grandchildren, Megan Chambers, David (Carena) Chambers, Laura Chambers, Andrew Chambers, Amy (Luis) Santiago, Michelle (Mark) Kirsch, Heather (Lyle) Staudenmaier and Brandon Wyckoff; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Lewis (Margaret) Chambers of Marble Rock; and two sisters, Dorothy Bill of Riceville and Marion Meek of Rochester, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 47 years, Zella in 1994; a daughter, Cindy Pitz; three brothers, John, Roy and Clayton Chambers; and two sisters, Edith Bill and Edna Ferch.

Barbara Ellen Erbe

Barb was born on Jan. 26, 1937, reared in Mason City, and was the eldest of four children of Carl and Mildred Erbe. She graduated from Mason City High School, attended Mason City Junior College, and graduated from the University of Iowa with a Bachelor's Degree in social work. Following college, she moved to Minneapolis, and worked for a time in the retail field. She then moved to and established her career in Rochester, Minn., where she worked as a social worker with the Minnesota Department of Human Services. She retired after 38 years of service, having worked primarily in the state mental health system.

Barb was an avid University of Iowa Hawkeye football fan and attended many games and alumni events with her partner and fellow alumnus W. Lowell Quirk, who survives her at Sunrise Senior Living. In her youth, she worked many summers as a camp counselor at Girl Scout Camp Gaywood in Clear Lake. Barb also was an avid gourmet cook and enjoyed experimenting on her many friends and family with her dining concoctions. She was a talented needlepointer and watercolor painter, enjoyed playing golf and bridge, and loved traveling, fishing and Garrison Keillor.

Barb is survived by her brothers, Robert Erbe of Pahrump, Nev., Douglas Erbe and his wife Kim of Mason City, and her sister, Suzanne Bohn of Broom-field, Colo.; nephews Geoffrey Bohn and his wife Brett of Arlington, Va., David Bohn of Chicago, Ill., Steven Bohn of West-minster, Colo., and niece Barbara Tingle and her husband Kyle of Arvada, Colo.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

ST. JAMES, Minn. - Vernon Jurgemeyer, age 67, of St. James, Minn., died on Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at Mayo Clinic Health System-St. James.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012, at First Lutheran Church in St. James, Minn., with the Revs. Christian Johnson and Ken Bowman officiating.

Vernon Alfred Jurgemeyer was born June 26, 1945, at Garner, Iowa, the son of Alfred William Jurgemeyer and Gladys Louise (Meinders) Jurgemeyer.

He graduated from Klemme High School, Klemme, in 1963. Vern then received his B.S. degree in Dairy Science from Iowa State University in February 1967. Vern was an active member of 4-H and the ISU Dairy Judging Team, served as an IFYE Ambassador to Israel in 1967, and started farming in 1967.

On Aug. 23, 1970, Vern was united in marriage to Diane M. Feldt in Garner. In May 1985, Vern became an Ag Lender with the Farmers Home Administration in Garner, moving to the Hancock National Bank of Garner in 1990. In 1995, Vernon started work at Odin State Bank in Odin, Minn., and in 2004, began working as the Ag Loan Officer at First National Bank in St. James. Vern was a member of the St. James Chapter of Rotary International, Minnesota Sudden Cardiac Arrest Association, and First Lutheran Church, where he had served as a council member.

Vern is survived by his wife, Diane Marie Jurgemeyer of St. James, Minn.; daughters, Raquel (Mike) Linch of Creston, Karla Jurgemeyer of Northfield; his mother, Gladys Jurgemeyer of Garner; two grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Egon Weaver of Boone.

He was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Jurgemeyer and a sister, Elaine Weaver.

Ralph O. Nappe
U.S. Army  WWII

MANTORVILLE, Minn. - Ralph O. Nappe, 87, of Mantorville, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Fairview Care Center in Dodge Center, surrounded by loving family.

Ralph was born June 27, 1925 in Lake Mills, Iowa, to Tolleff and Hannah (Vange) Nappe. He was baptized and confirmed at the Sion Lutheran Church in Lake Mills.

On Nov. 21, 1944, Ralph began active duty with the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged in 1946.

On Sept. 22, 1956, he was united in marriage to Evelyn B. (Todd) Nappe at Our Saviours Lutheran Church Chapel in La Crosse, Wis. After working as a maintenance worker for the Minnesota Department of Transportation for over 15 years, Ralph retired on Jan. 6, 1988.

In their 55 years of marriage, Ralph and Evelyn enjoyed traveling to Arizona and New Mexico in their fifth-wheeler and planning road trips to visit family. Ralph loved watching sports, especially the Twins, Vikings, and Iowa basketball and wrestling. His genuine smile, kind heart, and positive role model qualities will always be remembered by those who loved him.

Ralph is survived by his daughters, Deanna (Ronald) Peterson of Houston, Minn., and Carol (Virgil) Andrist of Mantorville, Minn.; six grandchildren, Dana (Dan) Kildahl, Tricia (Eddie) Wateski, Dawn Peterson, Troy (Jamie) Andrist, Chad (Katie) Andrist, and Jessica (Charlie) Bradford; 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Alice (James) Kambanos of Glendale, Ariz.; brothers, Stanley (Betty) Nappe of Norway, Iowa and Donald (Carol) Nappe of Kensett; and by several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn in 2010; brothers, Wilmer, Leonard, and Orlyn Nappe; sisters, Thelma Adam and Ruth Brenno; and grandson, Ricky Peterson.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service-Hansen Goodview Chapel, Winona, Minn., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Timothy Nappe from Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford, will officiate. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Winona with full military honors provided by the American Legion Leon J. Clear Lake - Glenn V. Fergason, 93, of Clear Lake passed away Friday, August 31, 2012, at Hospice of North Iowa. Most recently, Glenn resided at Homestead Assisted Living, Mason City.
 
Glenn was born, April 25, 1919, in Lake City, Iowa, to Herman and Grace Anna Fergason.

A memorial service and celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, September 6, 2012, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North Fourth Street, Clear Lake, with the Reverend Dean Hess of Zion Lutheran Church in Clear Lake officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Wednesday with a Masonic service at 6 p.m. on Wednesday by the Benevolence Masonic Lodge of Mason City. He attended Lake City, Iowa, schools and graduated from Lake City High School in 1938.
Glenn joined the Navy in 1942 and served during World War II. He took his basic training at Great Lakes Naval Station in Chicago and was stationed in New York, N.Y., Pensacola, Fla., and Bermuda. He was honorably discharged in 1945.

After being discharged from the Navy, he began a career in sales traveling the North Iowa area. Glenn's sales career included wholesale bakery products, cemetery plots, and petroleum products.

Glenn married Thelma A. Jette in 1943 in Lincoln, Neb., and settled with his mother-in-law and father-in-law in Clear Lake in 1947. Into this marriage was born one son, Paul.

After retirement, Glenn spent over 20 years wintering in Apache Junction, Ariz., where he enjoyed the traveling pool leagues and social activities at the community center. During the summers, he returned to Clear Lake to help take care of the family home.

Glenn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma A. Fergason (Jette); and brother, Marvin.

Inez E. Heimdal

LAKE MILLS - Inez E. Heimdal, age 90, of Lake Mills died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Winnebago Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 6, at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St. in Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to service at the church.

Inez was born Nov. 24, 1921, to Selmer and Grace Johnson in Geneva, Minn. She grew up in Forest City, and graduated from Forest City High School in 1940. After graduation, she worked in several homes in Winnebago County as a homemaker where she met Alfred Heimdal. Inez and Alfred were united by marriage on Aug. 16, 1941. The couple proceeded to spend most of their married lives in Winnebago County farming and raising eight children.
 
In 1991, the couple relocated to Forest City where they spent their last years together until Alfred passed away in 1994. Inez continued to spend the next decade in Forest City, spending time with family and friends before residing her remaining five years at Lake Mills Care Center.
Inez was a very talented and independent person. Among many of her talents were playing violin at a young age; loving to sew and creating her own patterns; her love of gardening; many hours of bargain shopping; and gift of gab being among the most memorable talent of all.

She spent much of her life working at several jobs including Deluxe, County Home and devoted the last 30 years at Fleetguard retiring at the age of 67. She also utilized her time being a 4-H leader for Mt. Valley Township and an active member of Winnebago Lutheran Church participating in several church groups.

She is survived by her children, Sonja Petersen of Lake Mills, Dennis and Marilyn Heimdal of Farmersburg, Noel and Pam Heimdal of Rockwell City, Ilene and Bill Zieser of Leland, Arlyn and Linda Heimdal of Cheney, Wash., Mylan and Ana Heimdal of Houston, Texas, and daughter-in-law, Marie Heimdal of Canton, S.D.; sisters, Lana Dewey of Minnepolis, Minn., and Idelle Peterson of Boudon, Mo.; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and many family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Leanne Grace; husband, Alfred Heimdal; son-in-law, Ralph Petersen; brother, Quintin Johnson; son, Richard Heimdal; and grandson, Troy Warner.

Rosie was born August 1, 1918, in Mitchell, the daughter of Joseph M. and Victoria (Laga) Kordos. She attended school in Mitchell and graduated from Mitchell High School on May 28, 1936.

Rosie was united in marriage to Jerry M. Pajer on May 28, 1938, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

She worked at the West Drive Inn in Osage and she also was a cook for the Mitchell School system. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was active in the Guild. Rosie was also active with the U & I Club in Mitchell for 55 years. She enjoyed sewing, working with flowers and working in her garden.

Survivors include her sons, Ronald Pajer of Covington, Ga., Jerry (Marilyn) Pajer of Loganville, Ga.; four grandchildren, Kellie (Bill) Parker, Chris (Carol) Pajer, Renee (Ed) Beshel and Randy Pajer; six great-grandchildren, Brent and Hunter Parker, Courtney and Lauren Beshel and Jacob and Olivia Pajer; and one great-great-grandson, Waylon Parker.

Clear Lake - Derwood E. Wells, 81, of Clear Lake passed away Sunday (September 2, 2012) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday (September 5, 2012) at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating.

Derwood Edward Wells was born on January 14, 1931, in West Union, Iowa, the son of Bernyl and Adele Wells. Derwood graduated from West Union High School in 1949. He then enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he was a parachute packer. He attended meat cutting school as well as barber school. He then attended Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa, and graduated with a B.A. in education. He taught school in the Sheffield-Chapin School District for 33 years before his retirement.

Derwood was united in marriage to Patricia Kjos on June 8, 1952; to this union three sons were born. Patricia preceded him in death. He later married Darlene Schwisow in 1985.
In his free time Derwood enjoyed motorcycles, pheasant hunting, and fishing in his younger years. He also liked golfing with friends, playing cards, walking and spending time with his family.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene; sons, Steve and wife Linda, Clear Lake, Scott and wife Carolyn, Topeka, Kansas, and Mick and wife Charlotte, Solon, Iowa; his step-children, Sherry Brouwer and husband Steve, Aplington, Iowa, Brenda and husband Darwin Avery, Ventura, Donna Tobin, Texas, and Laurie Wright and husband Leo, Omaha, Nebraska; his sister, Marjorie Schwinefus and husband Wayne of Decorah, Iowa, as well as his many grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great- grandchildren, step-great- grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother and two sisters.

Marie was always clear about the love she had for her family. Second to that was her love of piano, art, sewing and her rose garden.

June Johnson

CLEAR LAKE - June Johnson, 87, of Clear Lake, died peacefully at Ebenezer Care Center, Burnsville, Minn., on Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, following a short fight with lymphoma.

A memorial service will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Brad Thornton officiating. Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m. at the church. Inurnment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, at a later date. According to her wishes, her body has been cremated. Memorials may be given to the Clear Lake Senior Center.

Waneta June Birkholz was born June 3, 1925, in Geneva. She was the daughter of Leo William and Iva Vonda (Fuston) Birkholz. She lived with her grandparents, William and Leapha Fuston, near Clear Lake until the age of 14, when her grandmother died. She then went to live with her mother and step-father Iva and Helmer Hanson. She graduated from Nora Springs High School in 1944.

On Sept. 18, 1948, she married the love of her life, Donald Johnson, at the Methodist Parsonage in Clear Lake. They were the parents of one daughter, Margaret Ann.

They lived in Garner for many years eventually moving to Sioux Falls and Tyndall, S.D., where Don worked for various hatcheries. In 1973 they bought a Sears Calalog Store in Emmetsburg. In 1992 they retired and moved to Clear Lake.

Following Don's death in 2007, June became the site director of the Senior Center in Clear Lake and continued in the job until her health started to decline this past July.

She was a member of Clear Lake Congregational Church where she was active with the Women's organization. For many years she organized the annual Christmas tea.

She enjoyed entertaining and loved hosting her extended family and friends at holidays and other special occasions.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret Ann (Dennis) Stachour, Apple Valley, Minn., three grandchildren: Ann Marie (Peter) Czarnecki, Belle Plaine, Minn., Elizabeth Stachour, Arlington, Va., and Charles Stachour, Geilenkirchen AFB, Germany; four great-grandchildren: Avery, Ben, Noelle, Lindsey Czarnecki; brothers: Donald Birkholz, Davenport, Rodney (Pat) Hanson, Mason City; sisters: Laurel O'Rourke, Maryville, Mo., Maxine (Bill) Worsley, Clear Lake, Hazel Ann (Larry) Kaye, Alamo, Calif., brothers-in-law: Charles (Virginia) Johnson, Chula Vista, Calif., Ivan Burkheimer, Mason City; sister-in-law: Arlene Goepel, Britt, Arlene Birkholz, Fairborn, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews and extended family.

CLEAR LAKE - Sonya S. Ryan, 71, 1314 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at her daughter, Shelly Kirk's home in Thompson.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, Sept. 7, at the First Baptist Church, 125 East State Street, Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating.

Visitation will be Thursday, from 5-7 p.m. at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, and one hour preceding the service at the church. Interment will be at the Clear Lake Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the First Baptist Church or the Humane Society.

Sonya was born Oct. 28, 1940, in Mason City, the daughter of Roger and Jane (Etzel) Grimm. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1958. Sonya married Larry Romig and they lived in Clear Lake. While living in Clear Lake she did volunteer for the First Congregational Church and the Holt adoption agency for many years. She was a CNA for home health nursing agencies. Later in life, she and her husband Greg owned and operated Mr. K's in Buffalo Center, Iowa, from 1997 to 2005.

Sonya married Greg Ryan July 25, 1989, in Phoenix, Ariz. They lived there four years and then moved back to Clear lake. She was a peer facilitator at Prairie Ridge, loved animals and spending time with her family. Sonya attended First Baptist Church in Mason City.

Sonya is survived by her husband Greg Ryan, Clear Lake; two daughters Tawnya Gene Romig-Foster and her husband Tad, Lakewood, Colo. and Shelly Diane Kirk and her husband Mike Mathis, Thompson; two brothers Roger Grimm, Mich. and Doug Grimm, Forest City; two sisters Diane Bailey, Clear Lake, and Arnita Meinders, Thornton; five grandchildren Christopher, Shawn, Joshua and Jessica Kirk and Finn Foster; one great grandson Cooper Kirk and several nieces and nephews.

DALLAS, Texas - Elton Edward Smith, 93, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed away on June 1, 2012, at Walnut Place Nursing Home in Dallas, Texas.

He was born to Lynn Smith and Bessie (Davey) Smith on September 11, 1918.
Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. on September 8, at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

He graduated from Mason City High School and attended Mason City Junior College.

He married Ruby R. McIlhatton of Mason City on October 4, 1938. Together, during their 72 years of marriage, they built 10 homes in the Mason City area. Elton was employed by the Northwestern Portland Cement Company for 41 years where he worked in the lab. In 1982, he and his wife retired to Mesa, Ariz., where they lived for 21 years. During that time they traveled extensively in the continental United States. They also visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, Jamaica and made many fishing trips to Canada. When he wasn't traveling, Elton loved to bowl, play horseshoes and square dance. The last eight and a half years he has resided in Dallas, Texas.

Elton was a World War II veteran. He served on the USS Porter stationed in the Aleutian Islands.

He is survived by his daughter Jean Schaefer and husband, Dean, of Garland, Texas; son Lance Smith of Mason City, Iowa; grandson Dan Schaefer and wife, Caroline, of Lewisville, Texas; granddaughter Christy Kraft and husband, Mark, of Liberty Hill, Texas; granddaughter Kayla Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; grandson Jason Smith of Mason City, Iowa; granddaughter Kelsey Smith of Mason City; four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers Chet and Gerald Smith; sister Doris Burns and grandchild Justin Smith. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great grandfather and will be missed greatly by his family.

Glaydon Clement Trytten

Lake Mills - Glaydon Clement Trytten, 77, of Lake Mills died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Denise Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.

Visitation will be on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St. in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Algona - Patricia Lou Uhlenhopp, 70, of Algona, died Sunday at her home.
