BRITT - Susan Brooks, 56, of Britt, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at
Hospice of North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services for Susan Brooks will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday,
Sept. 2, at the United Methodist Church, 707 Fourth St. S.W., in Britt,
Pastor Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in
Britt.
Visitation will be held 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Ewing Funeral
Chapel, 178 Center Street West, in Britt, and will continue one hour
prior to the service at the church.
Susan Elaine, daughter of Robert and Muriel (Sveen) Buns, was born on
May 13, 1955, in Mason City. Sue was baptized in Woden and was confirmed
in the First Lutheran Church in Britt. She graduated from Britt High
School in 1973, and completed her education at Spencer School of
Business. Sue worked at Marting Manufacturing until 1980, and was
employed with Herman Buns and Sons Construction.
On Aug. 22, 1980, Susan was united in marriage with Ronald Brooks at the
First Lutheran Church in Britt. The couple farmed, raised livestock, and
worked with draft horses. Sue enjoyed taking photographs and
participating in the family's various draft horse activities.
Sue was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church in Britt. She
enjoyed nature, feeding birds, flowers and quilting; she also liked to
follow various West Hancock School sports activities. She loved spending
time with her children and grandchildren and truly treasured being a
part of their lives.
Sue is survived by her husband Ron; daughter Carrie Brooks and her
children Michael and Sydney of Britt; son Troy and his children
Mackenzie and Austin of Kanawha; father Robert of Garner; brother Tom
(Leanne) Buns of Clear Lake; brother Gary (Rose) Buns of Stewartville,
Minn.; sister Sandra (Kirk) Pearson of Klemme; brother David (Vicki)
Buns of Fisherville, Ky.; aunt Lois Holstad of Tucson, Ariz.; aunt
Margie (Ray) Hobbs of Britt; mother-in-law Marlene Brooks of Britt;
sister-in-law Lori Jo (Walter) Bond of Mason City; along with several
cousins, nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends.
Sue was preceded in death by her mother Muriel; father-in-law Donald
Brooks; and uncle Arden Holstad.

BRITT - Sarah Mattoon, 92, of Britt, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30,
2011, at Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Funeral services for Sarah Mattoon will be held on Friday, Sept. 2, at 2
p.m. at the First Lutheran Church, 70 Fifth Ave. N.W., in Britt, with
Pastor Lee Nelson officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in
Britt.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, Sept. 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the First
Lutheran Church, 70 Fifth Ave. N.W., in Britt, and will continue one
hour prior to the service at the church.
Sarah Marie, daughter of John and Susie (Thoren) Miller, was born on
Oct. 28, 1918, in German Valley, Iowa. She attended country schools and
then stayed at home to take care of her mother.
On Sept. 28, 1938, Sarah married Lester Mattoon in Forest City. The
couple made their home in the Britt area and raised their family. The
couple farmed and did custom corn shelling. Sarah also worked at
Winnebago Industries, sold Avon, and did some babysitting for her
family.
Sarah was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt for most of her
life and was involved with the church circles. She was also a TOPS
member for many years. Sarah enjoyed bowling, playing cribbage, and
bingo. She loved birds, both watching and feeding, and spending time
with family, especially her grandchildren.
Sarah is survived by her children: Kathryn (Verle) Everett of Britt,
William (Diane) of Britt, Terry (Judy) of Britt, Rick (Pat) of Britt,
and son-in-law Robert Slobe of Florida; ten grandchildren: Debbie (Mike)
Chisholm, Peggy (Craig) Adams, Randy (Sherry) Vrieze, Kim (Tom)
Vanderlaan, Kory (Teresa) Mattoon, Kristopher Mattoon and his fiancée
Sarah Van Den Broeke, Amanda (Wayne) Chambers, Ashley (Randy) Weiskamp,
Shawna Slobe, and Jennifer Martineau; 17 great-grandchildren; and six
great-great-grandchildren.
Sarah was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester; daughter
Nancy Slobe; son-in-law Leonard Vrieze; and grandson Danny Vrieze.

City Iowa, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center of North
Iowa.

Della was born to Frank and Emma (Burkle) Hanig in Hampton, on March 10,
1929. She was married to Edwin Price in 1947. She became an LPN in 1968
and enjoyed nursing at Pediatrics-Park Clinic until 1978, later at NIMC
and the Women's Health Center from 1990 until 2008. Her great pride and
joy was her family.
She is survived by son, Ron (Joanne) Steven; daughter Janis (Dennis)
Slater; grandchildren Holli, Dustin, Bridgette, Chad, Matt, Renee,
Rachel; and great grandchildren Jaylen, Danajua, Deaira, Dakieran,
Brayden and Alexia.
Della was preceded in death by husband Edwin; daughter Marlys; her
parents; two sisters and three brothers, one being her twin brother,
Donald.

GARNER - Donna Mae Lackore, 73, of Garner, passed away on Friday, Sept.
2, 2011, at the Forest City Good Samaritan Center.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at 11 a.m. on
Monday, Sept. 5, at the Pilot Knob Lutheran Church, in rural Forest
City.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 10-11 a.m.
Donna Mae (Ryerson) Lackore was born on March 25, 1938, the daughter of
Herbert and Agnes (Bakke) Ryerson. After graduating high school, Donna
received her teaching certificate from Waldorf College and also attended
Mankato State.
She was united in marriage to Eugene Lackore on Oct. 4, 1957, in Miller.
Donna taught school for several years in Thompson, Hayfield, Muscatine
and Garner.
Later in her life she worked for Winnebago Industries. Gene and Donna
also farmed for several years north of Hayfield and taught square
dancing to many. They were blessed with three daughters.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene Lackore, of Garner; three
daughters, Renee (Fred) Sweers, of Moville, Linda (Tim) Tuttle, of
Fertile, Lisa (Eddie) May, of Fertile; nine grandchildren: Jessica (Jay)
Sweers Delp, Christine (Adam) Sweers Jastram, Josiah Sweers, Gabriel
Sweers, Rachel Tuttle, Mitchell Tuttle, Isaac Tuttle, Sharayah May,
Joshua May; one great-grandchild, Emma Delp; four brothers, Tom (Marge)
Ryerson, of West St. Paul, Minn.; Ray (Judy) Ryerson, of Garner, Mike
(Tinker) Ryerson, of Homer, Alaska, Jon (Diane) Ryerson, of Nichols; two
sisters-in-law, Roberta (Chuck) Lackore Morkin, of Holyoke, Mass., Mary
Ryerson, of Scarville; and many nieces and nephews.
She was proceeded in death by parents, Herbert and Agnes Ryerson; three
sisters, JoAnne (Ryerson) Davis, Sandra (Ryerson) Birkey, Mary (Ryerson)
Holder; three brothers, Ron Ryerson, Jerome Ryerson, Doug Ryerson; two
brothers-in-law, Sam Davis, Cliff Holder; one sister-in-law, Francine
Ryerson; and mother and father-in-law Clayton and Ethel (Grell) Lackore.
Donna had a very strong faith and personal witness. She loved her family
very much. Donna's hobbies included traveling, gardening, watercolor
painting, reading, sewing, and spending time with her family. Donna
enjoyed many friends in square dancing, church and Rockport 35 RV Park
in Rockport, Texas. Donna was a member of the Faith Lutheran Church,
Pilot Knob Lutheran Church and Come As You Are Church at Rockport 35 RV
Park.
Special thanks to the staff of the Forest City Good Samaritan Center and
Hospice of North Iowa for the wonderful care she received.

Betty Adean Miller was born Nov. 4, 1930, to Wayne and Emma (Hartwig)
Rhoads near Kanawha. She attended Kanawha public schools.
She was married to Merle Jordanger in 1946, to this union three children
were born. Merle passed away in 1974.
In 1979, Betty was united in marriage to Bob Miller at the Little Brown
Church in Nashua. They made their home in Crystal Lake. Bob and Betty
were seldom seen apart, as they were always together. When you saw one,
you saw the other. They were constant companions the entire 32 years of
their marriage.
Betty worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 20 years, until
retiring in 1992 when they moved to Laurie, Mo. The couple made their
home in Laurie until they moved back to Britt in November of 1999.
She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Britt.
Betty enjoyed her family, her home, crafts and the outdoors.
Betty is survived by her husband Robert (Bob); son Bruce Jordanger, of
Russellville, Mo; one daughter, Connie (Tom) Steinbrunn, of Arvada,
Colo.; three grandchildren: Nichole (Chris) Swisher, of Norwalk, T.J.
(Melissa) Steinbrunn and Tara Steinbrunn, of Colorado; four great-
grandchildren: Kaitlyn and Zachary Swisher, Ashlynn and Ryan Steinbrunn;
sister, Ruby Carlson, of Bancroft, and numerous nieces, nephews and
friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, Merle; son,
Rodney; an infant sister; and her brother Harold Rhoads and his wife

Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar.
Donald Patterson, the son of John and Velma (Rutt) Patterson, was born
on the family farm near Toeterville, on March 28, 1918. He was a
longtime member of the Six Mile Grove Church.
Donald was united in marriage to Enid Sampson, March 20, 1941, at the
parsonage in Lyle. They farmed near Toeterville, where they raised their
three children: a daughter, Shirley Mae, and two sons, David and Duane.
After retiring, Don and Enid were able to travel extensively, visiting
family and friends across the country. They also enjoyed numerous bus
trips and a cruise.
Don was active in the community as a member of the school board,
elevator board, Lions Club and many other volunteer organizations.
Don is survived by son, David (Betty), of Apple Valley, Calif.; son
Duane, of St. Ansgar; and dear friend and caretaker, Linda Currens, of
St. Ansgar; grandchildren: Scott Patterson (and special friend Jodie
Colwell) and Scott's children Corey and Megan, of Apple Valley, Calif.;
Jeff Patterson (Jillean) and children Zyzick, Killian and Seth
Patterson; Breanna, Shyanna, Adreanna and Bryson Urick, of Apple Valley,
Calif.; Darin Patterson (Kristy) and children Keylee, Wyatt and Rowan of
Hesperia, Calif.; Dawn Ratashak (Josh) and children Colby and Xander of
Springfield, Ore. He is also survived by sisters: Neva Nelson, of St.
Ansgar, Helen Debner, of Marble Rock, Lois (Walt) Benesh of Austin,
Minn.; sisters-in-law, Ruth Patterson and Mildred Patterson, of Osage; a
brother, John Patterson (Fran), of St. Ansgar; also surviving are his
sisters-in-law, Millie (Keith) Westling, of Osage and Marilyn (Dean)
Rockafellow, of St. Ansgar; brother-in-law Russell (Gladys) Sampson, of
St. Ansgar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Enid; his parents; daughter Shirley
Mae Patterson; great-grandson Trenton Patterson; brothers Max Patterson
and Darrell Patterson; sister-in-law Cleo Weness and her husband Kenneth
Weness; nephews Rick Nelson and John Nelson; brothers-in-law Otto Nelson
and Clarence Debner.

Lee Phearman
CHARLES
CITY - Lee Phearman, 71, of Charles City, died Friday, Sept. 2, 2011, at
his home.
Funeral services for Lee Phearman will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6,
at Messiah Lutheran Church. Pastor Jane Keel will officiate. Inurnment
will be at a later date in Riverside Cemetery.
Friends may call at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City from 5 to 8
p.m. Monday, and an hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
Lee Roy Phearman was born Nov. 27, 1939, at Iowa Falls, the son of Roy
and Frankie (Carter) Phearman. He graduated from Mason City High School
and Parsons College, where he received his degree in education.
On March 23, 1962, he was united in marriage to Sharon Lincicum at Mason
City. Lee taught school in Wells, Minn., for five years before moving to
Charles City in 1967 where he taught math at the junior high school for
31 years.
He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the Izaac Walton League.
As well as being a teacher, he enjoyed hobby farming. Lee and Sharon
always looked forward to camping at South Padre Island, Texas. Family
was always very important to Lee and he looked forward to sharing life's
experiences with them.
Living family members include his wife, Sharon Phearman, of Charles
City; two children, Scott (Gina) Phearman of, Watertown, Minn., and Kris
(Jerry) Sehr, of Iowa City; seven grandchildren, Ellyn, Alex and Anna
Phearman, and Kelsey, Nick, Kate and Jordan Sehr; a brother, Larry
(Cathy) Phearman, of Mason City; and four nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and father-in-law and
mother-in-law, Clyde and Mary Lincicum.
