at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 12, at
Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp
officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. today, Wednesday, May 11, at
Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St. in Forest City, and will
continue an hour prior to service at the church.
He is survived by his wife, Darlyne of Forest City and three children:
Trudy (Rick) Johnson of Mason City; Rick (Michelle) Espeland of
Winterset; and Steven (Susan) Espeland of Madrid; seven grandchildren
and two great-grandchildren.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents, his son Tim, three

- Betty D. Jones, 62, of Rowan, most recently a resident of the
Rehabilitation Center of Belmond, died Sunday, May 8, 2011, at the
Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Funeral service will be Thursday, May 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the Day Spring
Assembly of God Church, Belmond. The Rev. Mark Pluff will be
officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.
Vistation will be today from 5-7:30 p.m. at the Andrews Funeral Home,
516 1st St. S.E., Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to the
sevices at church Thursday.

Betty Dale Miller, the daughter of Ernest and Vernice (Cummings) Miller,
was born Feb. 22, 1949, at Lawton, Okla. She moved with her family to
Iowa in her childhood years and graduated from Belmond High School.
Betty was united in marriage to Dale Cletus Jones, on Oct. 26, 1968, at
the Belmond United Methodist Church in Belmond. Their union was blessed
with two sons, Byron and Dusty.
Betty was a life long home maker, devoted wife and life partner to Dale,
and nurturing mother. She very much any opportunity that involved
sharing in the lives of her loving and tightly woven family. Whether the
occasion included times spent with Dale, their sons, Byron and Dusty,
Betty's siblings, or another favorite of Betty's watching over her
nieces and nephews Betty truly relished these opportunities. She was
very much a family lady who appreciated the simple things of life.
Betty's focus was to love and support her family in all that did. She
strived hard to provide for their needs and wants and always put the
needs of others before her own. She was an excellent cook and will be
remembered by her family for many of her specialties such has homemade
chicken and noodles, baked goods such as pumpkin bars, banana bread,
zucchini bread, a one of a kind peanut butter and banana sandwich, or a
delicious potato and taco salad, all of which would often be washed down
by a glass of Betty's always stout iced tea. She will be remembered for
always being a kid at heart, whether the occasion included aunt Betty
hoping on trampoline or a game of Red Rover with the kids, a competitive
but friendly game of UNO, 31, Spoons, or many other card games. Betty
and Dale enjoyed camping outings, traveling the back roads of the
countryside with their sons on trips to Wisconsin and throughout the
region and exploring a good second hand store, garage sale, or just
going junking. The couple also looked forward to a fishing excursion
whenever the opportunities arose. Betty often relaxed with Dale and the
family on Sunday afternoons in front of the TV. watching shows such as
"Yankee Workshop," "Project Shows," a classic black and white movie, or
an edition of "Red Green," or many other comedies. Her family will
remember her hosting fun sleep-overs, her green thumbs of raising a
beautiful flowers and vegetables and her fondness of cactuses and
bleeding hearts. Betty collected Betty Boop memorabilia. A memorable
occasion in her life journey occurred when she was baptized with her
husband in Lake Cornelia.
Her family and friends will always cherish memories of Betty's gentle
nature, her heart warming laugh, and her love of receiving and pulling a
good prank.
She had been a resident of the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond for the
past 15 months.
Her memory will live on in her the hearts and minds of her sons, Byron
and Dusty Jones, of Belmond; brother, Dwayne "Bo" Miller, Britt, sister,
Byrul Faye (Curt) Moore, Rowan, brother, Michael Miller, Latimer,
sister, Renee (Dobie) Aldrich, Rowan; and many nieces and nephews and
great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Vernice Miller,
husband, Dale; four brothers, Earl "Frank", Virgil, Dwight "Ole" and
Ernie; a nephew Jason Moore and his son, Zachary.

N.M. - Kathryn Diane Lucero passed away on Thursday, May 5, 2011,
surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Osage, Iowa, on Dec.
20, 1956.
Kathryn was preceded in death by her father, Albert G. Dunkelberg, and
her mother-in-law, Genevieve Lucero.
She is survived by her husband of 25 years Rudohph A. Lucero, daughter
Elizabeth, and son Michael, her dear mother Leone K. Dunkelberg, brother
Kermit, wife Kim and daughter Zoe, brother Kendall, wife Kim and son
Ardan, father-in-law Rudy Lucero Sr.; in-laws Myra, Andy and family;
Michelle, Clint and family; and Dennis.

MOINES - Eleanor Lynn Martin, 86, of Des Moines, passed away at Calvin
Community in Des Moines on May 8, 2011.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 12, at Calvin
Community, 4210 Hickman Road, Des Moines.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 13, with burial
of the cremated remains in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt.
Ms. Martin was born in Britt and attended the American Institute of
Business in Des Moines. She worked for the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Co.
for four years and then for Iowa-Des Moines National Bank, now Wells
Fargo, for 39 years until retiring in 1986.
She is survived by one sister, Anna Lou Martin of Redmond, Wash., and
two brothers, Rodger of Osage, and Ralph of Rockford.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Laura (Thompson)
Martin, two brothers, Jim and John and sister, Isabel (Martin) Parker.
Ms. Martin was a member of Cottage Grove Presbyterian Church. The family

CLEAR LAKE - James K. Morrison, 80, of 712 N. Sixth St., Clear Lake,
died Sunday May 8, 2011, at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake. He was
reunited with his loving wife Babe and the mother of their children on
Mother's Day. Due to his wishes, he was cremated and a private memorial
service will be held at a later time at Clear Lake Cemetery. Family
suggests memorials be given in memory of Jim to Comprehensive Systems,
Charles City.
Jim was born Jan. 14, 1931, in St. Paul, Minn., the son of Dow A. and
Ella M. (Klindworth) Morrison.
He served in the
U.S. Navy
from 1954-1958. He married Ophelia A. "Babe" Fibiger on June 4, 1955, in
New Brighton, Minn. They lived in Minneapolis, later Columbus, Neb.,
Lawrence, Kan., Minneapolis, Minn., and in 1984 moved to Clear Lake. He
worked for Cole-Sewell for over 25 years retiring in 1996 as vice
president. After retiring he did consulting.
He was a member of the Clear Lake Chamber of Commerce and was very
active on many committees. He enjoyed flowers, gardening and doing yard
work.
Jim is survived by six children: Steven M. Morrison, Spring Lake Park,
Minn., James J. (Deb) Morrison, Andover, Minn., William A. (Jill)
Morrison, Clear Lake, Patti A. (Chuck) Carbaugh, Jefferson, Md., Kris A.
(Steve) Lyman, Clear Lake, and David D. Morrison, Charles City; one
brother Joe (Michelle) Morrison, Sioux Falls, S.D.; 17 grandchildren,
Lynne Salmeri, Jennifer Morris, Shannon Morrison, Danielle Gochenour,
Cassie Morrison, Tara Morrison, Erica Morrison, Andrea Morrison, Jamie
Morrison, Niki Bennett, Amanda Timmer, Daniel Timmer, LeAnne Carbaugh,
Emily Logan, Luke Logan, James Lyman and Ellasue Lyman and 10

Brock Anthony Tuczynski
SARATOGA
SPRINGS, N.Y. - Brock Anthony Tuczynski passed away unexpectedly on
Sunday, May 8, 2011. He was 31 years old.
He was born on April 26, 1980. He is the son of William and Kathryn
Tuczynski. Brock is a graduate of Saratoga Springs High School, Cornell
University, with a degree in chemical engineering, and Columbia
University with a master's in engineering management. He enjoyed a
fulfilling career at Kraft Foods and an ongoing teaching and mentoring
relationship with the Chemical Engineering Department at Cornell. Brock
was an extremely devoted husband, incredibly loving father, and a
generous son, brother and friend.
Brock was a musician, outdoorsman, an Eagle Scout and member of the
Catholic Church. He loved music, fishing, biking, running, songwriting
and playing with his daughter. Of all his many accomplishments he was
most proud of his family.
Brock is survived by his wife Julia; his beautiful daughter Bess and
baby boy; his mother and father Kathy and Buck; sisters Darcy (John
Czajka) and Reanna (Ryan Martin); grandparents Marie Tuczynski and Paul
Barnard and special relatives Jack Tuczynski and Rosie Mauro. He is also
survived by two nieces and many aunts, uncles and cousins.
Brock's love and generosity will be greatly missed but mostly we will
miss his contagious laugh and his timely humor.

CLOUD, Minn. - Justin D. Blair, 33, of St. Cloud, died unexpectedly at
his home on Monday, May 9, 2011.
Services celebrating Justin's life will be 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 13, at
the Technical High School gymnasium in St. Cloud. Burial will be at a
later date.
There will be a visitation from 4-8 p.m. Thursday and again after 2 p.m.
Friday at the Miller-Carlin Funeral Home in St. Cloud.
Justin was born Oct. 23, 1977, in Bismarck, N.D., to David and Sandi
Blair. He grew up in Bismarck and attended college in Bismarck and
Moorhead State University, graduating with a degree in education. Justin
moved to St. Cloud in 2001 and began teaching English at Technical High
School. He was also the yearbook adviser.
Justin married the love of his life, Jodee Miller, on Aug. 3, 2007, in
St. Cloud. They were blessed with a beautiful baby boy in 2009, Vaughn
Blair.
Justin was an avid golfer and was the coordinator for Dakota Junior Golf
when he lived in Bismarck. He also taught golf lessons at Boulder Ridge
Golf Course in St. Cloud. He was a member of the Minnesota Education
Association and the St. Cloud Education Association.
Justin is survived by his wife, Jodee, and son, Vaughn Blair, St. Cloud;
his mother and father, Sandi and David Blair, Bismarck, N.D.; his
grandparents, Beverly and Everett Miller, Bismarck, N.D.; and his sister
and brother, Kaija (Christian) Kuleck, Bismarck, N.D., and Tanner Blair,
Bismarck, N.D. He is also survived by his mother and father-in-law, Jim
and Judee Miller, Clear Lake.
Justin is preceded in death by his grandparents, Gerald Halmrast and Jim
and Blanche Blair.

Ron was born on July 15, 1944, in Minneapolis, Minn., the son of Alvin

High School. Ron joined the
United States Navy
in 1963 where he was primarily a photographer. He received his honorable
discharge in 1966. He moved to Mason City in 1972 and worked as a
salesman for many businesses in town, his last 15 years at J.C. Penney.
He was united in marriage to Dianne Onken on July 27, 1974.
Ron regularly attended First Baptist Church, was a member of the
American Legion and was very active with the Jaycees. He especially
enjoyed participating in the Fright Factory and being a bingo caller.
Ron was also an avid bowler.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; his aunt and
uncle; niece; and a half-brother, Guy Casto.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife of 36 years, Dianne;
brothers, Gerald (Kacey) Casto of Las Vegas, Nev., and Alvin Casto Jr.

Kadyn was born on Sept. 21, 2003, in Phoenix, Ariz., the daughter of
Matthew M. Kellogg and Kari L. Halverson.
Kadyn was presently attending Northwood-Kensett Elementary School where
she was a student in the first grade.
Kadyn enjoyed listening to music (Black Eyed Peas and Hannah Montana),
watching TV (especially Sponge Bob and I Carly), playing softball,
soccer, camping, fishing, roller skating, bowling, swimming, attending
school and bicycling, and loved flowers. Kadyn loved playing with her
brother, Kyler, and her many cousins. Kadyn was an extremely loving and
caring little girl bringing smiles and joy to all.
Kadyn is survived by her mother, Kari Halverson, and stepfather, Ryan
Meyer, of Kensett. Father, Matt Kellogg, and stepmother, Mandy Smith,

MASON CITY - Mavis E. Henschke, 84, of Mason City died Wednesday, May
11, 2011, at Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

Mavis Elizabeth Henschke was born on April 7, 1927, in Buffalo Lakes,
Minn. She attended and graduated from Mason City High School. For nearly
35 years Mavis was employed at Marshall and Swift Dry Cleaners in Mason
City.
Mavis loved all animals and enjoyed when the Humane Society would come
to give presentations at Good Shepherd. She was an active participant in
nearly every Good Shepherd activity but BINGO was by far her favorite.
Mavis was quite social and loved visiting with her friends at Good
Shepherd and looked forward to sharing a soda with her friend Jerry each
Saturday morning in the lobby at Good Shepherd.
Mavis was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed donating
her time until her health would no longer allow her to.
She is survived by her good friends Jerry and Marieta Wenzel and all of
her many friends from Good Shepherd.

Austina Johnson, the daughter of Osmund and Andrine (Knutson) Tungesvik,
was born on Nov. 12, 1910, on the family farm near Radcliffe. On May 6,
1929, she was united in marriage to Mandius (M.O.) Johnson in Adel. The
couple resided in McCallsburg for a short time, later moving to
Radcliffe where M.O. operated a corn shelling and trucking business. In
1945 they moved to a farm near Thompson where they farmed and raised
their family of seven children.
Austina was busy with her large garden, flowers, farming and raising
hundreds of chickens and selling eggs. She also made many hand-stitched
quilts, tied quilts and braided rugs that her family enjoyed receiving
as gifts.
Austina was very active in her church, Bethany Lutheran; in her circle,
Ladies Aid; and organizing the quilting projects each winter for several
years. She also was active in the JFF Club and the Young at Heart Club
in Thompson. She enjoyed spending time with her family and especially
her grandchildren.
M.O. and Austina enjoyed taking roadtrips around the country visiting
family and seeing the sights. In 1969 they started building their
retirement home in town and moved in December of 1970 in time to enjoy
Christmas.
In 1984, Austina and 12 Tungesvik family members made a 15-day tour to
Norway where her father grew up and visited their Norwegian family.
Austina's son Ronald was her caregiver for five years so she could stay
in her home as long as possible. In 1997, when she broke her hip, she
then entered the Lake Mills Care Center.
Austina is survived by her seven children: Marcella Hauan of Sioux
Falls, S.D.; Joan Jacobson of Thompson; Lois (Morris) Bjornsen of Blue
Earth, Minn.; Ronald Johnson of Bullhead City, Ariz.; Dorothy (Ralph)
Zenker of Escanaba, Mich.; Sharon (Freeman) Fox of Garner; and Linda
Brandau of Nora Springs.
Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 18
great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 44 years,
Mandius, on Oct. 25, 1973; four sons-in-law, Ray Hauan, Edwin Jacobson,
Kjell Bjornsen and Harlan Brandau; two sisters, Bertha and Mabel; and
four brothers, Andrew, Omer, Jacob and Silas.
The family would like to thank the staff of the Lake Mills Care Center
for the excellent care they gave Mom these past 14 years. Memorial may

Leonard Carl Markwardt Jr.

- Leonard Carl Markwardt Jr., 68, of Sheffield died Wednesday, May 11,
2011, at his home.
Carl's wishes were for his body to be cremated. Private family services
will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the Carl
Markwardt memorial fund, in care of the family.
Carl was born May 7, 1943, in Franklin County, the son of Leonard Carl
Sr. and Irene Mae (Emhoff) Markwardt. In 1961, he graduated from
Franklin Consolidated High School in Latimer.
Over the years, Carl worked for Morel Jewelers and Otto Schmeider
Jewelers, which he co-owned with Mr. Schmeider. He later began selling
jewelry on the road for A. Jaffe & Sons. After returning to Iowa, he ran
Studebakers Bar in Sheffield before retiring in 2005.
Following retirement Carl did clock repair from his home. He enjoyed
working on challenging clocks and would receive work from out of state.
Carl also enjoyed golfing and bird watching. He was a member of the
Masonic Lodge.
Carl is survived by one daughter: Tammy Hallock and husband, Mike, of
Leola, Pa., and their children, Megan McComsey and Scott McComsey, and
three great grandchildren: Jayden, Leela and Amya; two sons: Cory
Markwardt and wife, Jackie, of Mason City and their son, Christopher,
and Travis Gardner and wife, Angela, of North Liberty and their
daughter, Taylor; one brother, Ronald Nicholson of Bisbee, Ariz.; three
sisters: Paulette Foss and husband, Dennis, of Sheffield, Patricia Smit
of Sheffield and Cathy Stevens and husband, Ken, of Mason City; special
family friend Donna Bull and husband, Mike, of Tucson, Ariz. He is also
survived by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, William "Bill"
Nicholson; his grandparents, Lester and Elizabeth Markwardt and William
and Ethel Emhoff; and brother-in-law Donald Smit.

School. She was married to Clement L. "Red" Martin on June 8, 1939, in
Graettinger. She was a lifelong Mason City resident.
Helen worked for Gordon's Jewelry for 30 years in sales. In Helen's free
time she enjoyed exercising and staying fit, golfing and traveling in
her earlier years, and also enjoyed reading. Helen liked going to the
movies with her daughter, Lisa. She loved the time she spent with her
family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved
her.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Jeri Skram and husband Stephen of
Des Moines, Deborah Dunn and husband Jim of Waterloo, Kim Bendickson and
husband Rick of Mason City, Lisa Martin of Clear Lake; son, Thomas L.
Martin and wife Sandy of Montrose, Colo.; 13 grandchildren and 17
great-grandchildren; and sisters, Ione Fleming and Joan Baker.

Minn. - Olga Steinberg, 86, Mapleton, Minn., and formerly of Fairmont,
Minn., and Mason City, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, at the
Mapleton Community Home in Mapleton.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, May 13, at 10:30 a.m. at
Zaharia Family Funeral & Cremation Service of Truman. Interment will be
held at Lakeside Cemetery, Fairmont.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 12, at Zaharia Family Funeral &
Cremation Service of Truman from 5-7 p.m. and one hour before the
services on Friday.
Olga Sophia Adelina Wolf was born on May 15, 1924, in Rolling Green
Township, Martin County, Minn., to Dietrich "Dick" and Marie "Mary"
Diekman Wolf. Olga attended rural schools in Martin County, Minn. Olga
was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church (Missouri Synod).
On April 12, 1942, she married Walter Sager at Russell, Minn. After
their marriage, Olga lived with her parents in Bemidji, Minn., until
late 1945 when Walter was discharged from the U.S. Army at the close of
World War II. They farmed for a brief time in Pleasant Prairie Township
and then moved to a farm near Marshall, Minn. In 1950 they moved to a
farm west of Truman until moving back to Pleasant Prairie where they
remained from 1954-1959. They lived in Fairmont from 1959 until 1978.
From her marriage to Walter in 1942 until his death in 1968, Olga was a
homemaker, worked for the Fairmont Community Hospital for 10 years and
for Drs. Zemke and Zemke for 5 ½ years.
Olga married Ralph DeMeo at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Fairmont,
Minn., in 1972 and he died 2 ½ years later. During this marriage she
worked for Gardner Drug Store and H & H Enterprises of Fairmont. Olga
later met and married Donald Steinberg on April 12, 1978, at St. Paul's
Lutheran Church in Fairmont. They moved to Buffalo Center, Iowa, where
they farmed until 1988. Due to health problems, they moved to Mason City
until Don's death in 2007.
Olga did housecleaning in the Mason City area until her health gave out.
Don and Olga were devout members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mason
City.
Due to health concerns, Olga moved to Oak Terrace Assisted Living in
North Mankato and lived there from August of 2007 until February of 2009
and then to North Point Senior in North Mankato. In October of 2009, she
then moved to the Mapleton Community Home.
In her lifetime, Olga enjoyed time spent with her children,
grandchildren and family, dancing, playing cards, sewing, gardening and
canning.
Olga is survived by three sons, Arlo Sager and his wife LeAnn, Fairmont,
Minn., Darrel Sager and his wife Linda of Fairmont, Minn., and Curtis
Sager of Truman, Minn.; one daughter, Audrey Mohr of Mapleton; four
grandchildren, David Sager, Traci Paegel and her husband John, Kendra
Sager and Calvin Mohr; six step- grandchildren, Heather Steinberg, Kevin
Steinberg and his wife, Sarah, Casey Steinberg, Erin Albrecht, Scott
Albrecht and Jeff Albrecht; one stepson, Randy Steinberg and his wife
Cheryl of Buffalo Center; one stepdaughter, Mary Albrecht and her
husband Richard of Oronoco, Minn.; two great-grandsons, Brandon and
Alex; one great-granddaughter, Alexis; one great-great-grandson, Brayden;
three sisters, Josephine Oelrich, Bemidji, Minn., Lydia Stough, Bemidji,
Minn., and Alice Blom and her husband Ben of Welcome, Minn.; three
sisters-in-law, Eileen Sager of Welcome, Minn., Marlys Bruns of Titonka
and Shirley Steenhard of Buffalo Center; and many nieces, nephews,
relatives and friends.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Richard Wolf;
one sister, Frances Struck; husbands, Walter Sager, Ralph DeMeo and
Donald Steinberg; brothers-in-law, Dewey Sager, LeRoy Sager, Wendell
Stough, Emil Struck, Harry Oelrich, Bob Steinberg, Norman Bruns and

died Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in
Mason City.

Stephen Joseph Ciska was born on Oct. 9, 1938, in Chicago, Ill., the son
of Martin and Judith (Garrington) Ciska. He attended and graduated from
the Albia High School. He then furthered his education at the
University of Iowa
as well as Northeast Missouri State University, graduating from
Northeast Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in
business.
On May 26, 1962, Steve was united in marriage to Letha "Anne" Suter in
Mason City; this union would be blessed with three children: Marc,
Elizabeth and Allyson.
Steve loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, hiking, sitting
around a campfire and going on walks. Steve also liked watching movies
and would oftentimes watch them over and over!
Family was the most important thing in Steve's life. He cherished each
day he was able to be with his family and loved spending time with his
two granddaughters.
Those grateful in sharing in Steve's life are his wife, Anne Ciska,
Mason City; children, Marc Ciska, Mason City, Elizabeth Ciska and her
special friend Nate Pope, Mason City, and Allyson Ciska, Fort Collins,
Colo.; his two granddaughters, Lily Anne and Ivy Lynn; his siblings,

Darlene June Foss was born on July 12, 1926, to Glenn and Violet (Kistler)
Foss in Leland. She was a 1943 graduate of Manly High School, Manly.
On Jan. 25, 1947, she was united in marriage to Dean Clausen at First
United Methodist Church in Mason City, to which she and her husband were
life-long members.
Following graduation, Darlene began a 29-year career with Northwestern
Bell Telephone Company, starting out as an operator, then working her
way up to service observer. She proudly served as a union steward for
many years.
Following retirement she enjoyed golfing, attending monthly breakfasts
with her fellow retirees, visiting with friends, and spending time with
her family.
Darlene and her husband enjoyed taking trips, some of which included
Myrtle Beach, Niagara Falls, Texas, Arizona, and a cruise to Alaska. She
had many memorable adventures including a trip to New York City with a
friend prior to her marriage and a week-long hike with her son Rick to
the bottom of the Grand Canyon at the age of 68.
She was a wonderful homemaker, loved tending to her plants, flowers, and
keeping her yard in first rate condition. She was an avid reader and
loved to work on crossword puzzles, especially the Sunday newspaper
crossword, which she would keep at until it was done. Above all else,
Darlene loved her family and gave of herself freely and without
hesitation with love and affection.
Those left to cherish Darlene's memory are her three children, Rick
(Mindy) Clausen, Phoenix, Ariz., Greg (Lynda) Clausen, Independence, and
Debra Waters, Mason City; five grandchildren, Julie (Mark) Finch, Lisa
(Travis) Bailey, Susan (Bret) Lucas, Eric Clausen and fiance Erin Davis,
and Holly Clausen and fiance Adam Kauffman; three step-grandchildren,
Robert, James, and Chris Reid; eight great-grandchildren: Samantha
Latham, Ricky Latham Jr., and Emily Bailey, Morgan and Madison Finch,
William, Nathan, and Pete Lucas, and Soren Clausen; two
great-great-grandchildren, Courtney Latham and Mackenzie Vorland. She is
also survived by 14 step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great
grandchildren, and her beloved cat Shelby, her constant friend and
companion.

a grandson Travis Waters in 1970, and her brother Glenn Foss Jr.

Jeanine was born on June 2, 1953, in Norway, Mich., the daughter of
Peter "Flip" Flaminio and Norma "Sam" (Mattson) Petersen. In 1971, she
graduated from Duluth East High School in Duluth, Minn. She served in
the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman/physical therapist during the
Vietnam War. She was re-enlisted on the deck of the USS Iowa - before it
was decommissioned.
On March 18, 1977, Jeanine married Jeffrey Marsters in Philadelphia, Pa.
Following Jeffrey's military discharge, the couple moved to Mason City,
where Jeanine obtained a degree in nursing from North Iowa Area
Community College. Jeanine became an RN, and later received her
bachelors degree from the
University of Iowa.
She taught part-time in a clinical environment at NIACC until ill health
forced her to stop.
Jeanine enjoyed quilting, reading, knitting, needlework, crossword
puzzles, cooking, and most of all - spending time with her family. She
also enjoyed her dogs, her granddogs, and grandcat. Jeanine loved to
write, and published a book "Make Me Laugh" (A Cancer Survival Story).
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church.
Jeanine is survived by her husband of 34 years, Jeffrey Marsters of
Mason City; her children, Jennifer Guyer and husband Jay of North
Potomac, Md., and Justin Marsters and wife Meghan of Coon Rapids, Minn.;
grandson, Adam Guyer, and one grandchild on the way (Claire Jeanine or
William Jeffrey); her father, Peter "Flip" Flaminio and his wife Pat

OLWEIN - Dean A. Rivers, 84, of Oelwein, formerly of Floyd, died
Friday, May 13, 2011, at Grandview Health Care Center in Oelwein.
Funeral services for Dean Rivers will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, May 16,
at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City. Pastor Paul Fohs of Saint
John Lutheran Church at Arlington will officiate. Burial will be in
Sunnyside Memory Gardens rural Charles City.
Visitation will be at the Hauser Funeral Home Monday from noon until
service time.

formerly of Manly, died Saturday, May 14, 2011, at the Marshalltown
