CITY - Harold G. "Harry" Dixon, 67, of Mason City, passed away
Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2011, at his home, surrounded by his family.
A rite of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, at
Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the
Rev. Kenneth B. Gehling, the Rev. Michael J. Schueller, the Rev. Craig
E. Steimel, and Monsignor John Hemann as con-celebrants. Burial will
follow in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Manly, where military
honors will be provided by members of the Mason City Veterans Memorial
Association.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, at
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City,
where a Knights of Columbus Rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., followed
by a scriptural wake service.
Memorials may be directed towards the Harold G. Dixon Memorial Fund, in
care of Pat Dixon.
Harold Glenn Dixon was born on Nov. 22, 1943, in Northwood, to Harold E.
and Pearl (Abbey) Dixon. He attended North Central High School and
graduated in the Class of 1962. Following high school he attended Mason
City Junior College and graduated in 1964. He was employed by WHKS & Co.
as a Survey Technician from 1964 until his retirement in 2009.
On April 11, 1964, Harold was united in marriage to Patricia E. Hovell
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly. They had two children, David
and Amanda. On April 4, 1968, Harold was inducted into the United States
Army
where he faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge on
April 3, 1970.
In March 2008, Harold received the John J. Reineke Service Award from
the Society of Land Surveyors of Iowa. He was also a proud founding
member of SPOG.
Among Harold's many hobbies he enjoyed collecting antiques, especially
clocks, listening to oldies music, classic cars and genealogy.
He was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and was a third-degree
knight of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a past member of the
Mason City School Board.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Pat, Mason City;
children, David (Tammie) Dixon, Altoona, Amanda (Jason) Prevo,
Bloomfield; his father, Harold "Hank" Dixon, Manly; grandchildren, Isaac
Dixon, Thomas Dixon, Maria Dixon, Nicholas Dixon, Atalena Prevo, and
Mason Prevo; siblings, Larry (Sharon) Dixon, Mason City, Donna (Roger)
Backhaus, Manly; an uncle, Tom Dixon, Mason City; as well as many
nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Pearl, and grandparents.

- Lowell E. Newhall, 88, of Dumont, Iowa, passed away Feb. 23, 2011, at
the Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral Home in Dumont. Visitation will be held Sunday, Feb. 27, from 2

He was born on Nov. 17, 1922, in Hadley, Minn., to George and Emma (Bessman)
Newhall. Lowell graduated from Iowa Falls High School. He served his
country in the United States Army during the
Korean War.
Lowell was united in marriage to Marrian Lindaman in 1953 in Nashua.
He farmed his entire life. Lowell was a wonderful gardener and took
great pride in the harvest. He had a special way with animals and his
livestock. Lowell loved to buy, sell and collect antiques and had a
special interest in antique machinery. He always had time for children
in his life, especially his two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
Lowell competed in wrestling in high school and he enjoyed watching it
later in life.
He is survived by his wife Marrian Newhall of Dumont, son Russell (Rebbeca)
Newhall, daughter Marcia Roll, granddaughter Alicia (Eli) Varrelmann,
grandson Thomas Newhall, great-grandsons Willhelm and Brooks Varrelmann,
along with numerous brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, brother Kenneth, sister
Janice and sister Marlys.

Paul James Enabnit
MESA, Ariz. - Paul James Enabnit, 83, went to be with the Lord after
a short illness on Saturday, Feb. 19, 2011, in Mesa, Ariz.
A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, March 3, at Broadway
Christian Church in Mesa, Ariz., with inurnment later at the Mount
Vernon cemetery in rural Clear Lake, Iowa.
He was born on Jan. 7, 1928, on a farm south of Clear Lake, Iowa. Paul
attended country schools and graduated from Clear Lake High School in
1945. He studied at Mason City Junior College, graduated from Minnesota
Bible College in Minneapolis, and received a master's degree from
Lincoln Christian Seminary. He was ordained into the Christian ministry
at his home church in 1951.
Paul married Veronica Latham on Sept. 1, 1948. Together, they served
ministries in Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, Oklahoma and Arizona. He loved
first: God and His church, then his wife and six children and extended
family. Paul is survived by Veronica, his wife of 62 years; his six
children: Jim (Debbie) Enabnit of Tucson, Ariz., John (Sonya) Enabnit of
Gilbert, Ariz., Jane (Ken) Lake of Ardmore, Okla., Jeff (Nancy) Enabnit
of Enid, Okla., Joanie (Gene) Swang of Tomball, Texas, and Jill (Nathan)
Dalrymple of Tucson, Ariz. He is survived by 14 grandchildren and seven
great-grandchildren, and by sisters Edith Alsbury, Betty Enabnit, Ila (Gerhart)
Braun and LeeAnn (Bill) Kurtz.
A sister, June, and brother, Jack, preceded him in death.
In his own words: "Some day you will hear that Dad died. Don't believe
it! I've just moved to a new address, 777 Golden Street, Heaven!"

Iona was born on Nov. 13, 1915, in rural Erwin, S.D., the daughter of
Gilbert and Zella (Derry) Blakewell. Her family moved to Iowa in 1933
after she graduated from high school. She has lived most of her
remaining life in Cerro Gordo County with a few years in Franklin
County, and in Minnesota. In 1937 she married Harold Markwardt and they
farmed in Cerro Gordo County. To this union three children were born.
Iona enjoyed dancing, doing crossword puzzles and cryptograms, and loved
reading. Iona was known for her baking of cinnamon rolls, buns and
chocolate cookies. She volunteered for many years at Opportunity Village
and was a great supporter of Opportunity Village. She was a member of
the United Methodist Church in Swaledale.
Iona is survived by three children, Keith (Letha) Markwardt, Mason City,
Roy (Patty) Markwardt, Clear Lake, and Karen Markwardt-Blakewell and
friend Ruth Welscott, Sioux Falls, S.D.; nine grandchildren, Douglas
(Kerstin) Markwardt, Philip (Rose) Markwardt, Scott (Marilyn) Markwardt,
Judy (Dan) Oberheu, Chad Markwardt, Justin (Wendy) Markwardt, Randy
(Anita) Jurgens, Lori Zapata, and Carol (Steve) Hugo; twenty-nine
great-grandchildren, Alex and Erik Markwardt, Amber (Steve) Matassa,
Candace, Tonya, Heather Markwardt, Nathan, Mandy, Maggie Wendel, Mason,
Carter, Gage Oberheu, Delaney and Carter Markwardt, Samantha, Derek and

Edna was born on June 29, 1929, on a farm north of Ventura, the daughter
of Birch and Barbara Jane (Humphrey) Robison. She graduated from Garner
High School in 1947 before earning her Registered Nurse Certificate from
Mercy School of Nursing in 1950. She was working for Mercy Hospital when
she met Dale McCaulley. They were united in marriage on Nov. 17, 1950,
on the Robison Homestead in Garner, and to this union came three
children: Barbara, Debra and Brian. In 1968, Edna joined the Public
Health Nurses and served as director for 12 of those years before
retiring in 1991. She served as Parish Health Nurse at Grace United
Methodist Church after retirement. She enjoyed bird watching and
wildlife while living on the Winnebago River and more recently, Spring
Lake. She loved her family and will be missed by all who loved and knew
her.
Edna is survived by her children, Barbara McCaulley of Mason City, Debra
(Dwight) Boisen of Mason City, Brian Hub (Melissa Nelson) McCaulley of
Bellingham, Wash.; five grandchildren, Meghan (David) Haas, Kari Peters,
Kris Peters, Korey Peters, Cody McCaulley; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dale.

RAYMOND - Dale L. Ruiter, 70, of Raymond, formerly of Meservey, died
Thursday, Feb. 24, 2011, at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 28, at Retz Funeral
Home, 201 Ohio St., Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester of Meservey
Reformed Church presiding. Interment will be at Meservey Cemetery.

Dale L. Ruiter was born on July 4, 1940, in Meservey, a son of Fred and
Tena (Gruis) Ruiter. He was baptized in the Reformed faith in Meservey
Reformed Church.
Dale received his education in the Meservey School and later moved with
his parents to Grafton where he graduated from high school. Dale then
attended and graduated from Mason City Junior College. He then worked at
Wareco Gas Station in Mason City for a number of years. Dale then moved
to Waterloo and worked for Iowa Drywall as office manager, retiring five
years ago.
Dale enjoyed a few great years at the place he loved most: Prairie du
Chien, Wis., where he had a trailer and went boating. When illness set
in and tests revealed a rare bone disorder called myelofibrosis. With
many hospital stays and the best and loving care by Jack Sloane and
Steve Ruiter, Dale was called home to be with God on Thursday, Feb. 24,
at 70 years of age.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents: Fred and Tena Ruiter. Living
family members include his brother: LuVern (Dorothy) Ruiter, Thornton;
four sisters: Mrs. Viola Kessler, Meservey; Mrs. Leona Orvick, Forest
City; Mrs. Maurine (Don) Nash, Lady Lake, Fla. and Diane Ruiter, Nora
Springs; special friends: Steve Reiter and family, Waterloo, and Jack
Sloane and family, Hiawatha; many other friends, nieces and nephews.

Gene Raymond Lovik was born on Oct. 23, 1938, in Lake Mills, the son of
Eugene John and Cathryn (O'Rourke) Lovik. Gene was baptized and
reaffirmed the faith of his baptism through confirmation at the Salem
Lutheran Church, rural Lake Mills. Gene attended and graduated from Lake
Mills High School. Through out his life, Gene worked for Forester
Trailers in Forest City, and also worked at a nursing home in Wisconsin
and the I.O.O.F. Home in Mason City. After his recovery from an
automobile accident he continued to work at nursing homes, and also
built cabinets in Mankato, Minn.
Gene enjoyed antique cars and going to Bible study at the Lutheran
Retirement Home in Northwood.
Left to cherish his memory are his brother, Roger J. (Carolyn) Lovik of
North Mankato, Minn.; two step-sisters, Carol Christianson and special
friend Myron Speer of Carpenter, and Mary Beck of Albert Lea, Minn.; and
many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members and friends.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Ronald Lovik,
and his sister, Helen Vale.

Nora O. Peterson
LAKE
MILLS - Nora O. Peterson, 96, of Lake Mills, formerly of Northwood, died
Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011,
at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy
Baldwin officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church
Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, from 5 until 7 p.m. at
Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will
continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
Nora Olina (Holstad) Peterson was born on Oct. 2, 1914, north of Leland
in Winnebago County, to parents Knut and Marie (Johnson) Holstad. She
was baptized at North Prairie Lutheran Church and was confirmed at
Center Lutheran Church. Nora attended country school in Winnebago
County.
On Sept. 10, 1939, Nora was united in marriage with Elton Peterson at
the Immanuel Lutheran Church parsonage by the Rev. Justin A. Peterson.
To this union two sons were born, Larry and Harlan.
The couple farmed in rural Northwood for 54 years prior to moving into
Northwood, and later to Lake Mills.
Nora was a homemaker who loved to garden, bake, sew, and quilt. She and
Elton wintered in Texas where they enjoyed dancing, especially the Texas
Waltz. Nora had been a member of Bristol Lutheran Church, and later
became a member of Silver Lake Lutheran where she was the eldest woman
member at the time of her passing.
She is survived by her two sons, Larry (Patty) Peterson and Harlan
(Sharon) Peterson, all of Des Moines; five grandchildren; 10
great-grandchildren; two sisters, Martha Peterson of Lake Mills, and
Agnes Jensen of Grand Meadow, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Nina Peterson of
Lake Mills; and many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents; husband Elton in 2009; a
great-grandson, Blake Peterson; and nine siblings, Andrina Flugum,
Christina Flugum, Bella Helvig, Joe Holstad, Mabel Bolsinger, Carl
Holstad, Manda Brue, Cora Brue, and Hazel Holstad.

MASON CITY - Mindy S. Westendorf, 38, of Mason City, died Sunday,
Feb. 27, 2011, at the Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, March 3, at Major
Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, with the Rev. Sid
Bohls of St. Paul Lutheran Church officiating.

CHARLES CITY - Gloria A. Young, 59, of Charles City, died Saturday
morning, Feb. 26, 2011, at the Floyd County Medical Center in Charles
City.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Wednesday, March 2, at the Hauser
Funeral Home in Charles City. Sister M. Diana Blong, PBVM, Pastoral
Associate of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, will officiate.
Inurnment will be at a later date in Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.
