MASON CITY - Maxine A. Lafrenz, 84, of Mason City, died peacefully Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at her daughter's home in Prior Lake, Minn., after a courageous battle against cancer.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jim Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, and continue at the church one hour prior to the service on Friday.

Memorials may be given to the Maxine A. Lafrenz Memorial Fund or to Trinity Lutheran Church.

Maxine was born on Aug. 7, 1926, in Montezuma, the daughter of Peter and Verna (Peterson) Seaborg, where she learned of hard work and tenacity while the family farmed during the Great Depression. She persevered on with her education and graduated from Manson High School and attended beauty school in Waterloo.

Maxine married Donald E. Lafrenz on Aug. 8, 1948, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage they started their family in Hudson and Cedar Falls.

They moved to Mason City in 1964, where together with her husband, Donald, they became independent business owners and avid supporters of the community and people. Upon passing of her husband in 1985, Maxine became owner/secretary of Don Lafrenz Ford Lincoln Mercury and president of Lafrenz Land Company.

Maxine enjoyed being a homemaker as she was an excellent cook and always provided a loving and warm home for her children and grandchildren to come to, especially during the holidays. She enjoyed traveling especially with family, was an avid reader, enjoyed her dear friends and a good game of bridge or round of golf and was thought to be a very lucky fisherwoman, often catching most of the fish much to the chagrin of her husband and family at their cabin in northern Minnesota where the family made many wonderful memories together.

Maxine made her home around water for many years in Mason City and then Clear Lake, where children loved to play and swim. In her later years, she continued to live independently, played less golf perhaps but was able to still enjoy the sport more as a spectator as she built her last home on a golf course.

Maxine had a wonderful sense of humor and profound sense of pride being of 100 percent Swedish heritage. She greatly enjoyed and treasured all of her friendships that she was blessed to have had thru out her lifetime. Maxine loved and cherished her family and in return was loved without limits by her children and grandchildren. She had a deep Christian faith and was a proud member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Maxine is survived by her four children, Debbie (Ronald) Thompson of Council Bluffs, Gary Lafrenz of Mason City, Ronald (Lana) Lafrenz of Clear Lake, and Janine (Harry) Alcorn of Prior Lake, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Ellen, Rachel, Alex, Connor, Lauren, Ryan, Katie, Morgan, Anna, Harry III, and Maggie; two sisters, Alene (Richard) Stewart of Pocahontas and Frances Carl of Montezuma.

John Nicholas Streit was born on May 25, 1926, to Nicholas and Rose (Walrich) Streit at Stacyville. John was the fourth of five children. He attended Visitation School at Stacyville, graduating in 1944. He served a tour of duty in the service of his country in the Korean Conflict and returned home in 1948.

Violet J. Wolters

BELMOND - Violet J. Wolters, 89, Belmond, died Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 29, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Belmond with Pastor Troy Lohmeyer and Pastor Doug Farrell officiating.

Burial will be in the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery east of Belmond.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First Street S.E., Belmond, and will continue one hour prior to the services at church Friday.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial in Violet's name may consider the I.R.B. Camp, Clear Lake, or the Calvary Baptist Church, Belmond.

Violet Jean Kaduce, the daughter of Claus and Janette (Hass) Kaduce, was born May 26, 1921, at Amboy, Minn. She attended Amboy area schools and graduated from Amboy High School with the Class of 1939.

On Oct. 4, 1939, Violet was united in marriage to Elwin Wolters at the Palsville Church Parsonage in rural Belmond by the Rev. O.G. Poppen. The couple's union was blessed with four children, Donna, Linda, David and Gary.

Violet had worked for a time at Wilson's Packing Plant in Albert Lea, Minn., and for many years was employed with Aldinger's General Store in Alexander, where she had done egg candleing among various other duties. She was a lifelong homemaker, loving wife and nurturing mother.

Violet was a partner in the farming operations with her husband, Elwin, for many years and could often be found working along side him in many of the farming tasks including milking cows, gathering the eggs or numerous other chores.

She was a very hardworking lady who received great joy and satisfaction in providing a home for her family. She looked forward to hosting family gatherings and was especially fond of the Christmas get-togethers.

Violet was an excellent cook and baker and will be remembered by her family for always having a batch of homemade chocolate chip cookies ready for the occasion whatever it might be.

Violet had a great appreciation for the simple things in life, be it time spent with her children and their families, a very competitive hour or two playing games or afternoon tea time.

She and Elwin looked forward to taking the kids on fishing trips in earlier years and later on had looked forward to an occasional fishing excursion with her grandchildren.
Violet was a lady whose life was always led by her faith. She was an active and very devoted member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where she had held numerous roles, including teaching Sunday School and Bible School, mission work and was a camp counselor for many years. Her church was truly important to her.

Following Elwin's death in 1980, Violet continued to reside on the farm for a short time before moving the house into the town of Belmond in August of 1981. She had lived in that house until moving to the Belmond Community Retirement Apartments and then later moved to the Rehabilitation Center on June 1, 2009.

During the years following Elwin's death, Violet had did quite a bit of traveling, including going to Texas to winter, Hawaii, the World's Fair in Tennessee, Arizona and on various other outings. Violet was a lady who was always ready to go no matter how short or how far the destination might be.

Along with her competitive nature during her past time of playing games, she was a very avid Iowa State Cyclones and Hawkeyes football and basketball fan. A visit to her place or a phone call might be cut short or muffled out if one of her favorite teams were on the TV or radio. During her years at the retirement center and the rehabilitation center she enjoyed many of the activities available to her, along with the friendships of fellow residents and staff.

Those who had the privilege of crossing in the journey of Violet's life will remember her as a beautiful lady inside and out who was very gentle in nature. She was always smiling and thankful for whatever life brought her. No matter how simple something was, she was always grateful and thankful. Her appreciation for others, unselfish attitude and non-judgmental ways were a very special gift she shared with everyone. Her love for bright colors was only overshadowed by her terrific outlook on life.

Her legacy will continue to burn brightly in the hearts and minds of her children: Donna (Larry) Michaelson, Lake Mills; Linda (fiancee' David Olson) Olson, Ventura; David Wolters, Belmond; and Gary (Rachel) Wolters, Forest City; her brothers, Ervin (Verna) Kaduce, Mapleton, Minn., and Claus Jr. (Jean) Kaduce, Amboy, Minn.; a sister, Rene Tyson, Fairmont, Minn.; her grandchildren, Jill Huerter (Scott), Rochester, Minn.; Dean Michaelson (Dana), Creston; Danny Olson, Chinae, South Korea; Greg Olson (Kim), Kansas City, Mo.; DJ Wolters (Shannon), Goodell; Lynn Wolters (Shereen), St. Paul, Minn.; Robert Wolters (Kasey), Albert Lea, Minn.; and Heidi Wolters, Plymouth, Minn.; her great-grandchildren, Tyler & Brooke Huerter, Angela & Brandon Phipps, Jacob, Daniel and Nicole Olson, Zachary & Caitlin Olson, Jason Wolters, Elliana, Madeline and Abigail Wolters and Katelyn Wolters; her sisters-in-law, Melinda Kaduce, Fairmont, Minn.; Gladys Kaduce, Winnebego, Minn.; and Gladys Wolters, Belmond; and her special friend of many years, Vern Janssen, Belmond.

Violet was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elwin, and infant sister, Hilda; a sister, Dena Madsen and husband Stanley; her brothers, Edwin and Victor Kaduce; brothers-in-law, Willam Tyson and Clarence Wolters; a daughter-in-law, Peggy Wolters; and a son-in-law, Roger Olson.
