Marvin was born May 28, 1934, in Osage, the son of Joseph and Mabel
(Weinberger) Rogers. He was educated in rural schools and then served in
the United States Army.
Marvin was united in marriage to Beverly Lepper on May 12, 1962, in
Mason City. They lived and raised their family in Osage. Beverly passed
away in January 2002. Marvin was united in marriage to Marilyn Schaefer
on Nov. 26, 2004, in Meyer. They made their home in Osage. He was a
member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Marvin enjoyed fishing, gardening and spending time with his family.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Rogers of Osage; five children,
Laurinda (Bob) Darling of Ankeny, Curt (Dee) Rogers of Clear Lake,
Sandra (James) Wohkittel of Polk City, Kevin (Cindy) Rogers of Osage and
Joanne (Dennis) Kuntz of Ames; 12 grandchildren, Elissa and Jerad

Ruby Roberta Smith
DALLAS,
Texas - Ruby Roberta Smith, 90, formerly of Mason City, Iowa, passed
away on Oct. 6, 2010, at Walnut Place Nursing Home in Dallas, Texas.
Inurnment will be at 11 a.m. on Oct. 23 at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery
in Mason City, Iowa.
She was born Ruby Roberta McIlhatton to Robert McIlhatton and Mattie (Nicewander)
McIlhatton on July 23, 1920. She married Elton E. Smith of Mason City on
Oct. 4, 1938. Together, during their 72 years of marriage they built 10
homes in the Mason City area.
Besides being proficient in carpentry, painting, electrical wiring and
plumbing, she was a beautician, seamstress and wonderful wife, mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother.
In 1982 she and her husband retired to Mesa, Ariz., where they lived for
21 years. During that time they traveled extensively in the continental
United States. They also visited Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico and Jamaica and
made many fishing trips to Canada. The last seven years they have
resided in Dallas, Texas.
Ruby is survived by her husband, Elton Smith of Dallas, Texas; daughter,
Jean Schaefer and husband, Dean, of Garland, Texas; son, Lance Smith of
Mason City, Iowa; brother, Loren McIlhatton and wife Shirley of Mason
City, Iowa; grandson, Dan Schaefer and wife, Caroline of Lewisville,
Texas; granddaughter, Christy Kraft and husband Mark of Liberty Hills,
Texas; granddaughter Kayla Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; grandson Jason
Smith of Mason City, Iowa; granddaughter Kelsey Smith of Mason City,
Iowa; four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Wilbur and Burton
McIlhatton; and sisters Margaret Slattum, Myrtle Cook and Mattie
Newbrough. She will be missed greatly by her family.

James J. "Jim" Brandt
URBANDALE
- James "Jim" J. Brandt died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010, following a long
battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 25, at St. Francis of
Assisi Catholic Church, 7075 Ashworth Road, West Des Moines.
Jim was born on Dec. 29, 1961, in Mason City to Ned and Kay Brandt. He
attended Mason City schools and then the
University of Iowa.
In 1984 he received a Bachelor's Degree in business administration and
was a member of the Mortar Board and Beta Gamma Sigma honor societies.
Jim belonged to the Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.
Jim married Sue Scholl on June 1, 1984. He graduated with High
Distinction from the University of Iowa Law School in 1987. He was a
member of the Order of the Coif, a honorary legal society. Jim joined
the Mason City firm of Pappajohn, Shiver, Eide and Nicholas in 1987.
While in Mason City, Jim was active on several boards including Newman
Catholic High School, Holy Family Church and the Y.M.C.A. He coached
Mason City youth hockey and little league baseball teams and was a
member of the Mason City Country Club.
In 2002 Jim moved to Des Moines and became general council attorney for
Kum & Go, L.C. He also assisted on the Ethics Committee of Hospice of
Central Iowa, Iowa Groceries Association and numerous other business
interests. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Sue, and sons Ryan and Tim; parents,
Ned and Kay Brandt; brother, John (Lauri) Brandt; sister, Elizabeth
(Jeff) Smith; four nieces, three nephews; in-laws Ray and Peggy Scholl;
brother in laws Scott (Patty) Scholl and Mark Scholl; and sister in law
Theresa (Steve) Sullivan.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Dr. and Mrs. J. W. Lannon
and Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Brandt; uncles Joe Brandt and Denny Lannon; and
brother in laws Alan and Doug Scholl.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at
Dunn's Funeral Home, 2121 Grand Avenue, Des Moines, where a vigil
service will begin at 4 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mason City Newman Schools, or
Dowling Catholic High School or Hospice of Central Iowa or Colorectal
Cancer Coalition.

Georgia was born July 27, 1915, on her grandparent's farm near Lime
Springs, Iowa, the daughter of John "Jack" and Abbie (Ruesink) Metz. She
graduated from Osage High School in 1933.
Georgia married Leo Carter on April 28, 1934, in Osage. They farmed near
Osage and moved to town in 1983. Georgia was a high school secretary for
Osage Community Schools for 21 years. She was a member of the First
United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday
School. Georgia was a member of Osage Wa-Tan-Ye and was a 4-H leader.
She enjoyed traveling, gardening, sewing and craft work.
Georgia is survived by one daughter, Rozanne (John) Mehmen of Osage; and
her grandchildren, Kelli (Matt) Miller and their children, Madeline,
Olivia, and Rafe of Osage; Kyle (Amy) Mehmen and their children, Connor
and Paige of Osage.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo in 1984; an
infant son, Burton Carter, a daughter, Rita Carter; two sisters, Ada
Metz and Viola Angell; and one brother, John P. Metz, II.

Texas - R.W. Easley, 86, passed away on Oct. 20, 2010.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at
Bluebonnet Hills Memorial Chapel, 5725 Colleyville Blvd., Colleyville,
Texas.
Visitation was held from 6 to 8 p.m. yesterday, Friday, Oct. 22, at the
funeral home. Inurnment will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery in
Mason City, Iowa, at a later date.
Robert was born on Dec. 28, 1923, to William and Jenny Easley. He was
born in Mason City. Robert was fifth in a line of twelve children.
Mason City was called his home for nearly his entire life until 1999. He
then moved to Texas to be with his son, (Van), daughter-in-law,
(Connie), and granddaughter, (Vanessa).
Robert married Lois Irene Thompson (deceased July 3, 1986) on Nov. 23,
1946. They had one son together (Van Paxton).
Robert worked as a Plastering Contractor for his father, W.J. and his
brother, Jack, calling the business, "Easley and Sons." He plastered
many buildings in the northern Iowa area, including the First Methodist
Church of Mason City and the Surf Ballroom of Clear Lake, Iowa. He then
joined the Iowa Paint Company and worked there for three years. Shortly
thereafter, Robert accepted a position with the Mason City school system
and worked his way up to buildings and grounds manager. He worked for
the school system for 18 years before retiring.
After his retirement, he enjoyed being, "just retired!", spending time
with friends over coffee, visiting, and playing some golf. Robert never
seemed too busy to give others a hand in just doing things that needed
to be done. He was a giver in that way, always seeing a need to keep
things in repair and helping a neighbor in need. He was a loving father,
father-in-law, and most especially a grandfather to Vanessa, the girl he
loved!

Dorothie Elizabeth (Lackore) Haan Andreason Farrell was born in Forest
City, Iowa on March 25, 1915, the daughter of Ernest M. and Lydia (Jaster)
Lackore. She received her education in Forest City Schools. She was
united in marriage to Frank Haan in 1931. The couple made their home in
Crystal Lake where they owned and operated Crystal Lake Produce. In 1952
they began farming south of Crystal Lake until 1955 when they began
farming south of Miller. The couple moved to Forest City in 1957.
Dorothie worked at the Riverside Cafe, the Bowling Pin Factory and at
Stitchcraft. She also worked at the Lamp Shade Factory and Winnebago
Industries, retiring in 1976. After Frank's death, she married Marvin
Andreason in 1982. He passed away in 1988. She married Loren Farrell in
1989 and the couple enjoyed 20 years of married life before Loren's
death in 2010. Dorothie enjoyed knitting, crocheting, fishing and
bowling. She liked to travel and went camping with her family many
times. She was an avid reader, liked working on puzzle books and enjoyed
playing cards with friends.
She is survived by her children: Helen (Vernolle) Hill of Bottinueau,
N.D.; Joe (Mary) Haan of Abilene, Texas and Mary (Lloyd) Anderson of
Forest City. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren
and six great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands: Frank Haan, Marvin Andreason
and Loren Farrell; two daughters, Darlene Haan and Joan Albertson; two
sons, Peter and Charles Haan; a great-grandson, Andrew (AJ) Preston and
several sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Donald James Monaghan was born Dec. 29, 1925, at Waverly, the son of
Thomas and Roselinda (Baker) Monaghan. He graduated from the Colwell
School. Donald proudly served in the United States Marines during
World War II.
For a time he worked at Rath Packing Co. and John Deere in Waterloo and
then farmed in the Colwell area the rest of his life.
Donald was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the
Alta Vista
V.F.W.
His interests included fishing, playing cards, farming, visiting with
friends and watching the Minnesota Vikings, Iowa Hawkeye's and Chicago
Cubs. Donald always looked forward to the time he could spend with his
family, especially his grandchildren.
Living family members include two sons: Gary (Cheri) Monaghan of Grundy
Center and Ron (Debbie) Monaghan of Hampton; five grandchildren: Demi,
Jason (Wendy), Jubal and Jacob (Amanda) Monaghan and Josh (Amber) Moen;
six great grandchildren: Brooke, Cody, Shirley-Paige and Katelyn
Monaghan, Lilly Moen and Jesse Miller; four brothers: Bernard (Betty)

- Lavina Lorraine Lines Morphew, 93, died on Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at
the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, after medical
complications at Mercy Hospital.

She resided most of her life in Rockford, Iowa, moving to Marion 16
years ago. Lavina is remembered as a friendly senior who enjoyed meeting
new people and greeting them by their names. One of her favorite
pastimes was playing Scrabble and she relished a close-score game!
Lavina dearly loved her family, which included her three children and
their spouses: Keith and Judy Morphew of Mason City, Karen and Randy
Balderston of Alburnett, and Mary Riley of Lebanon, Conn. Lavina's
grandchildren brought her great joy: Kimberly Balderston, currently of
Alburnett, Ryan Balderston (resident of heaven since November 1988),
Aaron and Dawn Balderston of Alburnett, and Kristie and Matt Pealer of
Sunrise Beach, Mo., and Joy Riley Bellows of Conn.; and
stepgrandchildren Connie Martin McCoy and Doug Martin of Mason City.
Great-grandchildren were extra blessings: Jordan, Breanne, and Mason
Balderston; Lucas, Alexis, Olivia, and Ryan Bellows; and
step-grandchildren, Jaret and Jacie Pealer. She was also found of her

Lynn Murray Ramsey was born on April 20, 1929, on the farm near Joice
where he lived until the time of his death. He was the son of Theodore
and Wilma (Nelson) Ramsey. He was baptized at Beaver Creek Lutheran
Church and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church, rural Joice
where he remained a member. Lynn attended Larson Country school south of
Joice, Lake Mills School and Joice High School.
On Oct. 5, 1947, he was united in marriage to Norma Mae Thompson at
Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Joice. To this union their three
daughters, Wendy, Bonnie and Rhonda, were born. Lynn farmed with his
father, later worked at Deluxe Products in Lake Mills as an inspector,
then at Winnebago Industries in Forest City for 26 years as the welding
shop manager until he retired in l992 after a two-month stay in St.
Marys Hospital in Rochester due to a bad fall in December of 1991.
Years ago, he loved riding his horses and was an active member of the
Lake Mills Saddle Club and enjoyed the trail rides around Rice Lake. He
was a 4-H club leader.
Lynn was a trustee at his church for many years. He enjoyed singing in
the "Bethel Singers" and just attending regular Sunday morning services.
He was a hospice volunteer for about ten years. Lynn had a great sense
of humor and enjoyed joking with his friends and his nurses and doctors
while in the hospital.
Lynn's memory will always be in the hearts and minds of his loving
family which includes his devoted wife of 63 years, Norma; his two
daughters, Wendy (Russell) Mikkelson of Hurricane, Utah, and Bonnie
(Steve) Rodberg of Lake Mills; four grand-children, Kristie (Chris)
Lynch of Urbandale; Jennifer (Rodney) Moss of St. George, Utah; Matthew
(Starr) Mikkelson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; and Cheri (Chris) Schumann of
Kiester, Minn.; and nine great grandchildren: Morgan and Madilyn Lynch;
Madison Rodgers and Joshua Moss; Scotlyn, Parker and Cooper Mikkelson;
and Josie and C.J. Schumann; two sisters, Wava (Palmer) Valder and Beryl
Sand; two sisters-in-law, Mavis Olson and Elaine Aamodt all of Lake
Mills and many nieces and nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Rhonda Renae in 1981; his
parents and his mother and father-in-law, one brother, Dean, in infancy,
and four brothers-in-law.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be directed to Hospice
of North Iowa, Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church Building Fund or Lake
Mills Historical Society or any charity of their choice.

- Kenneth Nicholas Theobald, 69, of Stacyville died Tuesday, Oct. 19,
2010, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage, at 3 p.m.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 23, at
Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, with the Rev. John Moser
officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Visitation Cemetery,
Stacyville.
Visitation will be held Friday, Oct. 22, at Visitation Catholic Church
from 4 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m.
Kenneth Nicholas Theobald was born on Dec. 5, 1940, in Stacyville, the
son of Carl and Irma (Durben) Theobald. Ken graduated from Visitation
High School in 1959. He was a member of the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts.
His favorite pastimes growing up included playing sports, fishing,
driving and spending time with friends.
After high school, Ken enlisted in the
Army.
He attended basic training at Fort Hood, Texas, and then spent 19 months
stationed in Fort Richardson, Alaska, as a member of the 23rd Battle
Group, Second Armored Division. After being discharged from the Army,
Ken returned to Stacyville to join his dad, Carl, and brother, Glen, in
the family business.
Ken worked in parts and sales at Theobald Implement Co. until 1985. At
that time, Ken and his son, Todd, started Theobald Custom Manufacturing,
where Ken worked until his retirement in 2005.
During his time in sales Ken told many stories, traveled many miles and
met hundreds of great people, many of whom he kept in touch with
throughout his lifetime. Ken loved fishing, hunting, playing cards,
making others laugh, traveling and spending time with his family. Later
in life, Ken enjoyed family gatherings, visits with friends, tending to
his flowers in the backyard, feeding the birds and time spent on the
Gulf Coast.
Ken met Ann Hebert of Caspian, Mich., at St. Mary's School of Nursing in
Rochester, Minn., and the two were married on July 17, 1965, at St.
Cecelia's Church in Caspian, Mich.
Ken and Ann have four children: Todd (Julie) Theobald of Osceola, Wis.;
Lynn (Phil) Baldus of St. Ansgar, Iowa; Amy (Chris) May of Parkersburg,
Iowa; and Jill (Rusty) Theobald of Denver, Iowa. Christel (Sebastian)
Wassmann of Göttingen, Germany, is another special member of the family.
Grandchildren are Chantal Wilson, Theo and Kira Baldus, C.J. and Nicole
May, and Austin and Jaylee Fromm, and one great-granddaughter, Savannah
Wilson.
Ken is survived by his sister, Helen Hemann, of Austin, Minn., and his
brothers Glen Theobald of Lake City, Minn., and Roger Theobald of
Elkhorn, Neb. Ken also has many beloved nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Irma Theobald, his
in-laws, Dominic and Lorraine Hebert, his brothers, Robert and Roy
Theobald, and his brother-in-law, Willie Hemann.
Through his death, Ken will continue to help others through the donation
of his body to the Mayo Clinic. His laughter and smile will be greatly
missed.

- Leonard J. (Lenny) Ausborn, age 76, of Belmond, passed away Friday
(Oct. 22, 2010) at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Funeral services for Lenny Ausborn will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday,

Leonard John, the son of Albert and Anna Groh Ausborn, was born on Feb.
15, 1934, in Kanawha. Along with his family, Lenny grew up in the
countryside. He attended country school through the eigth grade. Lenny
lived with his parents, working on the farm. He loved raising Bantam
chickens and loved horses.
Later, Lenny would live with his brother, Harvey. Lenny entered Duncan
Heights in 1990. He lived there until 2003, when he entered the
Rehabilitation Center of Belmond.
Lenny was a bright wonderful human being that lit up a room with life.
He liked playing with his nieces and nephews and teased them, and
others, without mercy.
Leonard was baptized and confirmed at the St. John Lutheran Church in
Belmond, where he was a life-long member. Church and family meant very
much to Lenny. He so looked forward to family gatherings.
Leonard is survived by his brother, Robert and wife Mary of Ames; two
sisters-in-law, Corrine Ausborn of Britt and Nellie Ausborn of Belmond;
fourteen nieces and nephews; numerous other great and great great nieces
and nephews and a host of friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, and three brothers, Harvey,
Ervin and Don.

David Martin Bielefeld was born on Sept. 20, 1927, at the family farm
near Sheffield. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran
Church, rural Sheffield. He graduated from Sheffield High School.
David entered the U.S.
Army
and served in the Occupation Forces in Japan.
He returned to Iowa and married Eleanor Thompson. Four children were
born to this union.
He farmed with his parents before taking over the family farm northeast
of Sheffield.
On Feb. 12, 1983, David was united in marriage with Bonnie Wood. He
continued farming and working at Agri Industries Soybean Plant in Mason
City. After 32 years at the bean plant, David retired. They have lived
in Florida for the last 20 years.
David was an avid fisherman, taking many fishing trips and excursions
over the years, many with family or close friends.
David is survived by his wife Bonnie Bielefeld, four children, Douglas
(Gayle) Bielefeld, Fort Collins, Colo., Barbara (Robert) Lundt,
Caledonia, Minn., Ted Bielefeld, Rockwell, Todd (Deborah) Bielefeld,
Mason City; four step-children, Marty (Dianne) Lee, Redwing, Minn.,
Lonnie Lee, Austin, Minn., Jamie Lee, Sarasota, Fla., and James Lee,
Garner; sister Marlys (Marvin) Kramer, Sheffield.

general surgery for over 40 years. He was a talented violinist and
enjoyed playing golf.

grandchildren Joshua and Jacqueline Congello.

Wis. - Helen V. Glaspey (nee Martin) died peacefully on Thursday (Oct.
21, 2010) at the age of 92.

Helen was born in North Dakota and lived most of her childhood and adult
life in Mason City, Iowa. She spent the last five years in Milwaukee and
Waterford, Wis.
Helen was a full-time homemaker and a wonderful cook. She was an
accomplished ice skater, loved to dance, and spent days and nights
camping and fishing in Iowa, Colorado, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. She
traveled throughout the United States in her later years and enjoyed
musical and theatrical productions in Milwaukee, Santa Fe, Chicago, San
Francisco, and New York City.
Helen was an enthusiastic supporter of figure skating and ice shows in
her hometown. Memorial donations can be made in her name to The North
Iowa Figure Skating Club, in care of North Iowa Ice Arena, Box 1381,

She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Glaspey; her son Ric

a happily married housewife for many years. She enjoyed gardening,
canning string beans, making lefse, completing crossword puzzles, and
flowers, especially hostas, inpatiens, geraniums, and mums. She was a
member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Church Circle, Local Bible Study, and
Sewing Club.
Rachel is survived by her children, Garry Holland of Mason City, Deborah
Weber of Boone, Darwin Holland of Mason City; two grandsons, Lucas
Holland, Joseph Weber; two granddaughters, Larissa Weber, Jennifer
Dubberke; sister, Emilie (Allan) Conklin of New Brighton, Minn.;

Betty was born on May 3, 1926, in Des Moines to Charles and Edna Foutz.

Verva Grace Michaels was born on June 20, 1927, to Edward and Olive (Goldthorpe)
Chehock in Plymouth. She was baptized in the Plymouth Methodist Church.
Verva graduated from Plymouth High School in 1945, and attended Hamilton
Business College, now Kaplan University, graduating in 1947. Following
graduation, she worked at Iowa Retail Hardware Association in Mason
City.
On Oct. 22, 1947, Verva married LaVerne R. Michaels at Plymouth
Methodist Church. They lived in St. Ansgar, and to this union three
children were born.
She worked as secretary to the principal at St. Ansgar High school for
20 years, retiring in 1988.
Verva enjoyed traveling, shopping, and golf but her greatest enjoyment
was the time she spent with her family. She was a member of First
Lutheran Church, active in the Mary Ruth Circle, Clausen Colony Questers,
and American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
Verva is survived by her children, Suzanne (Dean) Shoars of Waverly,
Steven (Mary Jane) Michaels and Mark Michaels of St. Ansgar; five
grandchildren, Jason (Jennifer) Shoars of Waverly, Ryan (Lynne) Shoars
of Tampa, Fla., Brendan (Sequoyah) Shoars of Spring Creek, Nev, Dr.

Creek Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa.
The service will be followed by a reception in the church fellowship

Zachary "Zach" Graney
MASON
CITY - Zachary "Zach" Robert Graney, 16, Mason City, died Saturday (Oct.
23, 2010) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
A funeral service for Zach will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct.
27, at the First Covenant Church, 411 S. Ohio, Mason City, with Pastor
Tammy Swanson-Draheim officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park
Cemetery, Highway 122, West, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the
Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City.
Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday
at the church.
The family of Zach would like to suggest that memorial contributions be
directed to the Zachary Graney Memorial Fund.
Zachary "Zach" Robert Graney was born on Jan. 10, 1994, in Mason City,
the son of Shane and Karry (Matz) Graney. Zach was a junior at the Mason
City High School. Zach played football in the past in the Mason City
schools, and was an avid Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Zach
enjoyed camping, playing video games, his two dogs, Sadie and Emma, was
an avid music lover, and was a very loving and kind soul to everyone who
would do anything for his family and friends. Zach's great love and
enjoyment was being with his family and many friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Shane and Karry Graney
of Mason City; his sister, Madison Graney of Mason City; maternal
grandparents, Glyse and Virgil Matz of Mason City; paternal grandfather,
Jerry Graney of Mason City; his aunts and uncles, David (Geri) Matz of
Clear Lake, Laurie (Dennis) Berk of Bentonville, Ark., Brad (Patti)
Peterson of Mason City, and Nick Howard of Joplin, Mo.; his special
cousins, David Michael Matz and Cody Matz both of Clear Lake, Brittany
and Paige Berk both of Bentonville, Ark., Danielle and Josh Howard of
Joplin, Mo., Matthew Peterson of Des Moines, and Abbey and Whitney
Peterson both of Mason City, and Andrew Peterson of Cottage Grove, Wis.;
great uncle and aunt Wally and Jackie Kimmel of Spencer; as well as
other extended family members and many friends.
Zach will be sadly missed and greatly remembered by all who know him.
Zach was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Bobbie Olsen;
aunt, Pam Howard; uncle, Steve Peterson, and great grandparents, Berle
and Mary Hanson and Harriett Kimmel.
Zach's sister Madison would like everyone to know that not only was Zach
her brother, but Zach was her very best friend and she will miss him
greatly.

FOREST CITY - Janice A. Porter, 73, of Forest City, died Thursday,
Oct. 21, 2010, at her home in rural Forest City.
As per her wishes, her body has been cremated and no formal church
services will be held.
A graveside inurnment service will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28,
2010, at Linden Lutheran Cemetery in rural Forest City with Rev. Shannon
Pasqual, of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center, officiating.

GARNER
- Walter Thomas Rose, 90, of Garner, formerly of Crystal Lake, passed
away Saturday (Oct. 23, 2010) at Concord Care Center in Garner.
A memorial service for Walter Rose will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt with Pastor Lee
Nelson officiating. Inurnment will take place at Crystal Lake Cemetery.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on
Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Ewing Funeral Chapel, 178 Center St. W., in Britt,
and will continue one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
Walter was born on Aug. 27, 1920, on his family's farm north of Crystal
Lake. He was the son of Howard and Elizabeth (Ragan) Rose and graduated
from Crystal Lake High School in 1939. He farmed with his dad until June
1942, when he enlisted in the
U.S. Navy.
Walter was stationed in Hawaii for almost two years. While in the
service, he married Marjorie K. Boyken at Treasure Island Naval Station
in San Francisco, Calif.
After the war, they moved to a farm south of Buffalo Center where
Walter farmed until he retired. Their son, Tom, was born in 1953.
In 1984, they moved to Crystal Lake. Walter lived there until moving to
Concord Care Center in November 2009.
Walter enjoyed bowling and golf his whole life. He never missed a chance
to watch his grandkids participate in school sports and activities.
Walter is survived by his son, Tom and his wife, Becky (Larson) Rose;
two grandchildren, Danny of Des Moines and Jenny of Garner; his sisters,
Ellen Robbins of Kerrville, Texas, Grace Culhane of Palatine, Ill., and
Nancy (Maury) Buns of Woden; sisters-in-law, Edith Teig of Titonka,
JoAnn Tues of Yuma, Ariz., Carol Koosmann (Konrad) of Jamestown, N.D.,
Ardeth Boyken of Algona, and Karen Boyken of Algona; along with many
nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie; his parents; his sister,
Catherine; and several brothers-in-law.

Cecelia "Celia" Roskamp
KANAWHA - Cecelia "Celia" Roskamp, 93, of Kanawha, passed away
Saturday (Oct. 23, 2010) at the Kanawha Community Home.
Funeral services for Celia Roskamp will be held at 10:30 a.m. on
Tuesday, Oct. 26, at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with Pastor Lee Nelson
officiating. Burial will take place at Amsterdam Township Cemetery in
Kanawha.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 25, at
Ewing Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St., in Kanawha, and will continue one
hour prior to the service at the church.
Cecelia Clarice Roskamp, the daughter of Abel and Mary (Fosen) Omvig,
was born on Jan. 31, 1917, on the family farm near Kanawha. She attended
rural school and was confirmed in the Kanawha Lutheran Church.
Celia was united in marriage to Carl Roskamp on Oct. 9, 1940, at the
Little Brown Church in Nashua. The couple farmed around Belmond from
1942 until Carl's death on May 15, 1986. Celia then moved into Kanawha
in 1987 and entered the Community Home in 2007.
Celia was a member of the Kanawha Lutheran Church. She loved to bake,
especially her kringlas, and do her housework. Celia took great pride in
raising African Violets.
Celia is survived by her sister, Mabel Peterson of Britt; sister-in-law,
Marjorie Omvig of Kanawha; brothers-in-law, Bernard (Marg) Roskamp of
Clarion and Gene (Lois) Roskamp of Rock Island, Ill.; many nieces,
nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Joe, Oren, John
and Art; and three sisters, Alice, Oviedia and Synneva.

LAKE MILLS - Dean Twito, 82, Lake Mills, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010,
peacefully at his home from cancer.

Lutheran Church, Emmons, Minn., with the Rev. Julie Fiske officiating
and military honors conducted by Emmons Louis/Tviete Post No. 317.
