SPRINGS - Dolores I. "Dee" Arey, 76, of 710 First St. S.W., Nora
Springs, died Thursday (July 8, 2010) at the Nora Springs Care Center.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 12, at the Christian
Church, 102 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Pastor Don Muessigmann
officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.
Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial
Chapel, Nora Springs, and then one hour before the service on Monday at
the church. Family suggests memorials to Dolores "Dee" Arey Memorial
Fund.
Dee was born Oct. 16, 1933, in Nora Springs, the daughter of Fred and
Gladys (Palmer) Bitterman. She lived in the Nora Springs area and later
moved with her family to Tripoli, where she graduated from high school
in 1952.
Dee married Robert Arey on March 3, 1961, in Albany, Ill. They lived in
Clinton where she worked at the hospital as a nurse's aide. In 1982 they
moved to Nora Springs, where she worked at the Nora Springs Care Center.
She also did babysitting.
She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and
attending all their activities. She enjoyed reading, doing crafts,
flowers, fishing and horses.
She was a member of the Christian Church, Nora Springs.
Dee is survived by her husband, Robert Arey, Nora Springs; her mother,
Gladys Bitterman, Waterloo; two children, Mike Arey, Woden, and Terrie
Kunkel and her husband, Russell, of Wesley; seven grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; brother, Clarence Bitterman, and his wife, Marion,
Independence; her sister, Doretta Brandhorst, and her husband, Jim,
Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father and infant son,
Paul.

OTOE, Neb. - Bill Haag, 75, of Otoe, Neb., died Wednesday
(July 7, 2010) in Grand Island, Neb.

Fusselman-Allen-Harvey Funeral Chapel in Syracuse, Neb., with the Rev.
Paul Coen presiding.

Bill was born Oct. 14, 1934, in Mason City, the son of Lloyd Haag and
Bernice (Johnson) Haag. Bill served his country with the Navy from Jan.
9, 1952, to Sept. 29, 1955.
He was married to Jackie Miller on Dec. 15, 1978, in Sioux Falls, S.D.
Bill's occupation was in the reuse and and recycle industry. He was
known as a "workaholic" but still found time to help anyone who needed
it. He enjoyed his three dogs, his cat and relaxing with friends.
Bill is survived by his children, Michael Haag of Otoe, Neb., Russell
and wife, Samantha Haag, of Syracuse, Neb., and Lori Haag and husband,
Dean Adams, of Mason City; 10 grandchildren and many
great-grandchildren; a brother, Dewy, and his wife, Sharon Haag, of
Mason City; and his sister, Jeanne Haag, of Mason City; along with many
nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Jackie, and a
brother, Duane.

- Ed Huebsch, age 95, of Osage died Thursday (July 8, 2010) at Mitchell
County Regional Health Center in Osage.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 13, at Sacred
Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating.
Inurnment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Ed was born September 13, 1914, in Perham, Minn., the son of Frank and
Anna (Posel) Huebsch.
On July 18, 1939, he married Helen Siebels at St. Lawrence Catholic
Church in Perham. They farmed in the Perham area and moved to Osage in
1960 where Ed continued to work in the turkey industry. Ed was a member
of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and was a Fourth Degree Knight
of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and
woodworking.
Ed is survived by his children, Bill (Colly) Huebsch of Osage, Carol
(Ron) Gruber of Rochester, Minn., Joe (Sandy) Huebsch of Osage, Diane
(Jon) Sparrow of Osage; 25 grandchildren; 55 great-grandchildren; nine
great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Sally (Norb) Tollefson of
Minneapolis, Minn.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Helen, in 2005; his
daughter, Lois Root; his son-in-law, Darrell Root; three brothers; and
five sisters.

- Andrew "Andy" Jerome Majewski, 90, died Thursday (July 8, 2010) at the
Nora Springs Care Center.
A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday (July 12, 2010) at Holy
Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with Monsignor Joseph

City, with full military honors conducted by members of the Mason City

rosary being said at 4:30 p.m. followed by a scriptural wake service at

Andy was born near Portland to Frank and Elizabeth (Krumrey) Majewski on
May 10, 1920. Andy graduated in 1939, and entered the Army on March 1,
1942. He was honorably discharged from the army on Jan. 11, 1946. When
he returned home from the service, Andy started farming and was also a
dairy farmer for 27 years from 1950-1977; and also worked as a
carpenter.
Andy married Mildred in Manly and continued to live on their farm until
2006. Andy enjoyed gardening, fishing, wood working and enjoyed his John
Deere tractors!
Andy is survived by his son, Thomas Majewski, Clear Lake, step-children
Jerry (Peggy) Majewski, Evansdale, Donna (Ron) Springer, Sun City West,
Ariz.; grandchildren, David Springer, Reno, Nev., Cindy (Jerry) Hoffman
of Little Cedar, Jodi (Marvin) Edwards of Sumner, Daniel (Diane)
Majewski, Rosemount, Minn., Rhonda Jo (Shane) Everitt, Phoenix, Ariz.;
great-grandchildren, Desarae Springer, Cedar Falls, Shaun Hoffman,
Little Cedar, Zach Edwards of Sumner, Luke and Mya Majewski, Rosemount,
Minn., and Cole and Clay Rollins, Claremont, Minn.; along with several

Marjorie L. Ziegler was born on May 29, 1920, in San Antonio, Texas, to
James and Allie Ziegler. She was one of two children.
On May 25, 1943, Marjorie was united in marriage to John F. Stone and to
this union three sons were born.
She was very family oriented and loved spending time with her children
and grandchildren. Marjorie enjoyed having her family over for Sunday
dinners and especially delighted in preparing holiday meals for her
family.
Another favorite hobby of Marjorie's was watching TV; she enjoyed
watching her daily soap operas and keeping up to date with politics
through CNN. She also enjoyed fishing.
Marjorie will be remembered as always having been a highly independent
woman who loved to spoil the family's dogs, "Sweetie Mae," "Chanel" and
"Midnight."
Those grateful in sharing in her life are her children, John Stone,
Mason City, Phillip Stone, Clear Lake, and Robert (Dena) Stone, Mason
City; her grandchildren, David, Dan, Ashley and Holly; and a
sister-in-law, Joyce Stone, of Grinnell and her children, Marsha,

Eileen Jewell
SHEFFIELD -
Eileen Jewell, 78, of Sheffield, died Monday (July 5, 2010) at Muse
Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Private family funeral services followed by burial at Hillside Cemetery,
Sheffield, were held at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield. Her family
suggests memorials be directed to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.
Eileen Lucille Jewell was born on Oct. 21, 1931, in Sheffield, one of 12
children to August and Ella (Block) Siems. She graduated from Sheffield
High School as vice president of her senior class. She worked at the
Sheffield telephone office until her marriage.
On Aug. 5, 1951, Eileen was united in marriage with Robert Jewell. They
farmed near Sheffield and she became a devoted mother to her three
daughters. She was active in the Evangelical United Brethren Church and
was a generous hostess in her home. She volunteered at the Sharing
Shoppe, delivered Meals on Wheels and stayed active in her flower and
vegetable gardens. She was also quite artistic in making decorative
birdhouses. Eileen is remembered as a wonderful baker and made the best
potato salad in the state.
Left to cherish the good times are her husband of nearly 59 years,
Robert; three daughters: Peg Jewell, Sheffield, Nancy Swieter,
Sheffield, and Karen and Dave Rust, Mason City; grandchildren: Brian and
Jennie Bonjour, Stephanie Swieter, Stacey Swieter, Laura Rust and Angela
Rust, great-grandchildren: Justin, Joey and Amber Bonjour; sisters and
brothers: Sue Wagner, Tilene Humpheys, Ed Siems, Dale Siems and Delbert
Block; many nieces and nephews.
Eileen is preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Allan Bonjour; two
sisters: Luella Lahner and Louise Romine; four brothers: Elmer Siems,

Arlene (Brown) Nyguard was born on April 2, 1915 on a farm south of
Story City, to Grant and Cora (Madden) Brown. She attended country
school, then in Gilbert, and then graduated from Story City High School
in 1932.
After working for a short time in Des Moines, Arlene married Silas
Nyguard on June 30, 1937. To this marriage, four children were born:
Marilyn, Patricia, Phillip, and Wayne. Silas and Arlene farmed in the
Story City area and then in 1946 moved to a farm south of Thompson where
they farmed until retirement. They moved into Thompson in 1979. Silas
passed away in April of 1988. Arlene moved to Lake Mills in 2002.
For most of their married life, Arlene was a farmwife, but she also
cleaned homes and worked at the Thompson Produce, Bricelyn Canning
Factory, and the Thompson Public Library. She was active in Ladies Aide
and Circles at Bethany Lutheran Church.
She enjoyed swimming, walking, biking, gardening, reading, and playing
the piano and organ. She had a happy childhood and talked about it
often. She was well-known for her always cheerful disposition.
Arlene is survived by her four children: Marilyn Doyle, of West Des
Moines, Pat McGuire of Algona, Phillip (Joyce) of Des Moines, and Wayne
(Judy) of Lake Mills; nine grandchildren: Monica (Donald) Behning, Todd
(Jessica) Doyle, Matt (Jenny) Doyle, Mark (Melissa) McGuire, Shirley
(Jeff) Karhoff, Kevin (Jodi) McGuire, Dan (Rachel) McGuire, Christopher
(Beth) Nyguard, and Monty Nyguard; and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruth Miller and Vera
Brown, and brothers, Ralph, Homer, Reno, Dwight, Orson, and Paul; her
husband, Silas, and son-in-law, John McGuire.

several years. She was a devoted reader of the Bible, and enjoyed
singing and playing the piano.
Survivors include her husband, Roger, of Dickeyville, Wis.; three sons,
David (Debbie) Anderson, of Rapid City, S.D., and Steven and Samuel
Anderson, both of Dickeyville, Wis.; two sisters, Jeannette (Herbie)
Heimer, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Norma (Bernard) Hoff, of Belmond;
three grandchildren, Alan, Amanda and Kevin; and four

Mike was born on March 30, 1946, in Mason City to Robert E. Casey Sr.
and Helen Jean (Lattimer) Casey. Mike graduated from Newman Catholic
High School in 1964.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State
University in 1969, and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from
the University of Michigan in 1978.
Mike proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1970 to

opportunities to join in activities with fellow veterans.
Mike was an avid collector of die cast construction models, military
models and model railroading items. He also enjoyed reading science
fiction and traveling.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert E. Casey Sr.
Mike is survived by his mother, Helen Jean Casey of Mason City; four
siblings and their spouses: Marc (Cherie) Casey, Dyersville; Robert
(Cathy) Casey Jr., Atlanta, Ga.; Jean (Matt Berry) Casey, Clear Lake;
and Theresa (Jeff) Rypel, Greendale, Wis. He is also survived by eight
nieces and nephews: Cori (Bryan) Turner, Kevin Casey, Amy Casey, Sergei
Casey, Oksana Casey, Katie Berry, Robert Berry and Kaitlin Rypel, and
great-niece Kendall Turner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newman Catholic High School
or Hospice of North Iowa. Mike's family would like to thank Oakwood Care
Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the excellent care that he received
since his return home.

Francis Casey, 64, of Clear Lake, passed away Monday (July 12, 2010) at
Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Center, Mason City.
A funeral Mass for Michael will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, July 16,
2010, at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. Mason
City, with Monsignor Joseph Slepicka officiating.
Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on Friday.
Mike will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va. at a
later date.
Mike was born on March 30, 1946, in Mason City to Robert E. Casey Sr.
and Helen Jean (Lattimer) Casey. Mike graduated from Newman Catholic
High School in 1964.
He received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Iowa State
University in 1969, and a Master of Arts in Public Administration from
the University of Michigan in 1978.

Alfred "Al" Rognes Jr.
Alfred "Al" Rognes
Jr., 75, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Wednesday (June
16, 2010).
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Bethel
Lutheran Church, rural Joice, with the Rev. Kevin Olson officiating.
Interment will be at Lime Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Emmons, Minn.
Al was born Jan. 20, 1935, to Alfred and Jenette (Bye) Rognes. He grew
up on a farm near Joice. He attended school in Joice and graduated in
1953. Al served in the Army and was stationed in France. He was
honorably discharged in 1955.
Al was an entrepreneur and owned and operated many businesses. He
operated a bowling alley in Greene before moving to New Orleans,
(Kenner) La. In New Orleans, Al owned a printing company, an RV park and
a lawn maintenance business as well as operating a bowling alley in
Kenner.
In 1973 Al was in a serious car accident. He sustained serious injuries
but was able to overcome many obstacles and lived life to the fullest,
inspiring many people by his perseverance. In 1994 Al moved to Lake
Mills to be close to family. He lived there until March 2004 when he
moved to Houston to be by his daughter, Stacy, and her family.
Al enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family, friends and his
dog, Abo. He had a 43-year love affair with the New Orleans Saints and
was ecstatic to see them win their first Super Bowl this year. Al was a
member of Advent Lutheran Church in Houston, Texas, where he attended
regularly.
Al never met a stranger. He was a gentle soul who will always be
remembered for his warm smile and bright blue eyes.
Al is survived by his five children, Tara Leigh Rognes, Ken
Powers and wife, Lori, of Metairie, La., Stacy Lombardi and husband,
Jim, of Houston, Texas, Alyson Treme' of River Ridge, La., and Faith
Dauzat of Kenner, La. He is also survived by many loving grandchildren
and brothers, Jerome Rognes and wife, Mavis, of Lake Mills, Oswald
Rognes and wife, Muriel, of Lake Mills, Byford Rogness and wife,
Colleen, of Emmons, Ray Rognes and wife, Loretta, of Tampa, Fla.; and
sisters Junice Bang of Oviedo, Fla., Rosella Purcell and husband, Dale,
of Lakeland, Fla., and Norma Barville and husband, George, of Batavia,
Ill.; and many nieces and nephews. Al also leaves behind his beloved
canine companion, Abo.
Al was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Troy Rognes.

Dorthea Ellingson, 89, of 490 W. Lyon St., died Oct. 10, 2009, at the
Concord Care Center, Garner.
A memorial service for Marie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 17,
at Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, with the Rev. Tom Martin
officiating.

NORA SPRINGS - John Henry Jerrell, 82, of Tonopah, Nev., died March 29,
2001. Betty Louise Jerrell, 93, of Tonopah, Nev. died Sept. 16, 2008.
John and Betty both died of cancer.
Inurnment of their urns will be in a common graveside service at 11:30
a.m. on Saturday, July 17, at Park Cemetery, Nora Springs, with the Rev.
Kenneth B. Gehling officiating.
Visitation will be held one hour prior to the graveside service at
Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs.
John was born March 10, 1919, in Carmen, Idaho, to Thomas A. and Louise
(Buckman) Jerrell. John was the oldest of four children. John's brothers
are also deceased, Thomas (Sue) Jerrell of Lady Lake, Fla., and Phillip
(Marge) Jerrell of Mason City. John is survived by his sister, Nadine
(Don) Harmon, of Marshalltown.
Betty was born May 26, 1915, in Cokeburg, Pa., to Louis and Louise (Tuma)
Trojak. Betty is survived by her sister, Ann (Emile) Robillard, of
Kenosha, Wis., and her brother, Edward (Therese) Trojak, of Phillips,
Wis. Betty also has two brothers who are deceased, Jerry Trojak of
Phillips, Wis., and Joseph Trojak who was killed in Europe during World
War II.
John entered the Army in 1942 and served in Europe during World War II.
He received the Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, European
African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, a Good
Conduct Medal, and two Overseas Bars. While in the Army, John became
friends with Betty's brother, Ed, who introduced John to Betty after the
war.
Betty worked briefly as a nanny. She and her sister Ann operated a
restaurant for several years in Kenosha, Wis. During World War II, Betty
was employed at Coopers Garment Factory.
John and Betty were married Jan. 25, 1947, in Kenosha, Wis., and moved
to Nora Springs where they farmed until retiring in 1993. After selling
the farm, John and Betty moved to Tonopah, Nev.
Throughout their lives, John and Betty were avid bowlers. They both were
members of the 600 club. There were so many bowling trophies in their
home that you couldn't start to count them. They enjoyed old time music
and attended many dances with their friends at the Barn in Mason City
and the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. They also enjoyed summer Polka
festivals in New Ulm, Minn., and gambling trips to Las Vegas. John and
Betty were active members of the Rockford Catholic Church in Rockford
and then St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Tonopah.
John raised grain crops and hay on their farm and received many
accolades for his wonderful sheep herd. He also worked with many of
their neighbors, helping them with their crops. John was a long-time
member of the American Legion Post 0449 and received recognition as a
member of 50 years in good standing. He was also a member of the Knights
of Columbus and the American Legion.
Betty kept two large gardens on the farm, raising sweet corn,
vegetables, berries, fruits and horseradish. She was always busy canning
and freezing the produce which she often shared with neighbors and
friends. She was well known for her delicious baked goods.
John and Betty have four children: Joseph, El Cerrito, Calif., Michael,
Tonopah, Nev., Judith (Tom) Bowers, Alma, Colo., and Susan (Russ)
Hutchins, Maple Grove, Minn. They also have two grandchildren, Jared
(Jaime) Hutchins, Franklin, Ohio, and Jessica (Todd) Reynolds, Waukesha,
Wis. And they have two great-grand children, Logan and Samantha
Hutchins. John and Betty are also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of John and
Betty will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, at Shecklers Funeral
Home, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave., Nora Springs. This will be followed by
graveside services at 11:30 a.m. at the Park Cemetery, Nora Springs,
with Father Gehling presiding. A lunch for all family and friends will
follow at the Nora Inn.
