Sonja Angell

 

OSAGE - Sonja Angell, 72, of Osage died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 2010) at Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery at New Haven.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Sonja was born July 24, 1937, in Osage, the daughter of Melvin and Gertrude (Walstad) Weinschenk. She attended Osage schools and graduated from Osage High School in 1955. Sonja then worked as a telephone operator in Osage.

On May 4, 1957, she married Marlow Angell. In January 1963, they purchased the Osage Cleaners. Sonja worked there until her retirement in 2000. She has been a resident at Faith Lutheran Home since 2002.
 
Sonja was a lifelong member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Guild, served on the Sacred Heart Board of Education, was a religious education teacher and was a Sacred Heart youth group leader. She was also a member of Citadel, Osage Firemen's Auxiliary, the Osage Booster Club and the Sister City Organization. Sonja served on the American Heart Association Board and was an Osage City Council member.

She enjoyed playing softball. Sonja was an avid supporter of all Osage athletics and especially enjoyed following her sons and grandchildren.

Sonja is survived by her son, Kurt (Marsha) Angell of Osage and their children, Tiffany Angell and Adam Angell; her son, Kent Angell of Osage and his children, Melissa (Marty) Cooper, Travis (Stephanie) Angell, Katie Angell and Jordan Angell; two brothers, Russell (Janice) Weinschenk of Rochester, Minn., and Jerome (Laurie) Weinschenk of Mason City; one sister-in-law, Josie Weinschenk of Allison; one brother-in-law, Ray Card, of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlow Angell; one sister, Colleen Card; and one brother, Marcus Weinschenk.

ALGONA -Luella Arndorfer, 93, of Fort Dodge and formerly Algona, died Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) at the Marian Home in Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Ed Girres officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

Eunice Lillian Ashland

CLEAR LAKE - Eunice Lillian Ashland, 92, 2217 S. Lakeview Drive, Clear Lake, died Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) at her home.

A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs of Galilean Lutheran Church, officiating. Interment will be Monday at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at noon until time of services at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel.

Loretta R. "Rose" Brust

MASON CITY - Loretta R. "Rose" Brust, 91, of Mason City, formerly of La Porte City, died Tuesday (Feb. 9, 201o) at Keystone Cedars Assisted Living in Cedar Rapids, her home for the last 4½ years.

She was born Oct. 25, 1918, in Waterloo, the daughter of Fred and Gertrude Wilcox Klinger. She married Carl Brust on June 2, 1940, in Waterloo. He preceded her in death in November 2003.

She was a very social person, she loved people. She enjoyed neighboring, small family gatherings and large family reunions. As a young woman, she loved to dance and met her husband-to-be, Carl, at the Electric Park Ballroom in Waterloo. They were in love and married 63 years.

She loved traveling throughout the U.S., enjoyed playing cards, crafting ceramics and spending time with her two granddaughters. She had worked 28 years for the Mason City Public Schools as a kitchen manager, retiring in 1981. In the late 1960s Loretta was elected as president of the School Food Service Employees of Iowa.

Survived by one son, Jim Brust, of Marion; two granddaughters, Lindsay Brust of Boulder, Colo., and Emily Brust of Silverthorne, Colo.; two brothers-in-law, Dr. Richard (Margaret) Brust of Monmouth, Ore., and Al Brustkern of Cedar Rapids; and two nephews, David Brustkern of Des Moines and Al Brustkern of Morrison, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter in infancy; one granddaughter, Megan Brust; and one sister, Lois Brustkern.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at St. Paul United Methodist Church with burial in the West View Cemetery, both in La Porte City.

Visitation will be held one hour before the service on Saturday at St. Paul United Methodist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be given in Loretta's name to Iowa Hospice at 800 First Ave N.E., Cedar Rapids, or to the Parkinson's Foundation.

Loretta will be loved, missed and never forgotten. Amen.

Todd VanDenHul

 

OELWEIN - Todd VanDenHul, 42, of Oelwein died suddenly at his home on Tuesday morning (Feb. 9, 2010).

Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday Feb. 13, at Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein with the Rev. Charis Combs-Lay officiating. Inurnment at a later date.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday and after 1:30 p.m. on Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, Oelwein.

Todd Micheal VanDenHul was born on July 6, 1967, at Mason City, the son of Max "Mike" and Sandra Kay (Graff) VanDenHul Jr. He graduated from Thompson High School in 1985 and then attended the University of Northern Iowa at Cedar Falls for three years.

Todd was united in marriage to Tina Marie Bilden on Aug. 11, 1990, at Thompson. Todd worked at M.C.P. Computer Project at UNI for 10 years and then at A.S.I. Computer Systems Inc. at Cedar Falls for the past 15 years. Todd and his family moved to Oelwein in 1996.

He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Oelwein. In 2009 Todd was a founding officer of the CVineta Computer Networking Group in the Cedar Valley.

Todd is survived by his wife, Tina VanDenHul of Oelwein; children, Keisha (Alex) Mahoney of Oelwein, Micheal, Tyler and Ariana VanDenHul, all at home; his mother, Sandra VanDenHul, of Mason City; four siblings, Kim (Scott) Norstrud of Thompson, Chad VanDenHul of Mason City, Staci (Ray) Stump of Mason City and Michele (Lonnie) Hahle of Mason City; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Todd was preceded in death by his father, maternal grandparents: Marcus and Florence Graff and paternal grandparents: Max and Nellie VanDenHul.

Eunice Lillian Ashland

 

 CLEAR LAKE - Eunice Lillian Ashland, 92, 2217 S. Lakeview Drive, Clear Lake, passed away peacefully Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) in her sleep.

A funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St. Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jeff Ungs, of Galilean Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be Tuesday at the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chapel.

Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association and the Zion Lutheran Church.

Eunice was born Aug. 21, 1917, in Leland, (Winnebago County) Iowa, the youngest of three daughters of Rudolph and Lillian (Nonnweiler) Bienert. Eunice grew up on the family farm and attended country school.

She married Robert F. Evanson and they were blessed with four children. As a farmer's wife she became a skilled cook and used those skills later when she cooked in many restaurants, including 10 and a half years at Halford's Café. Her family will always remember the wonderful meals she prepared for them.

Eunice lived in Clear Lake 62 years and married Arthur E. Ashland Nov. 24, 1961, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua. Afterwards they bought a home on South Shore Drive where they enjoyed the lake activities year round.

She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary, played golf, danced and enjoyed bowling. Eunice was a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

In later years, she enjoyed playing bridge with her friends, feeding the birds, squirrels and stray cats. Her family is very grateful that she enjoyed her independence in her golden years.

The family would like to thank her devoted neighbors, Bennett, Darlene and Shari D. Smith, and John Fehn who lovingly assisted her in a variety of chores.

Eunice is survived by her three daughters, Dixie Lee Crump and her husband Dick, of Olathe, Kan., Donna Dell Hanson and her husband Darrell, of Pekin, Ill., and Diane Fay Heibel and her husband, Moxie, of Thornton; stepdaughter, Kathy Ashland, of Las Vegas, Nev.; 14 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Francis Bienert, of Forest City; and several nieces and nephews.

Eunice was preceded in death by her son, Robert L. Evanson; husband Art, (1997); her parents, two sisters, Ruby Isebrand and Evelyn Paulson; stepmother, Norma Bienert and half brother, Franklin Bienert.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. -Walter Ivan Matzen, 93, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at his residence in Hot Springs, Ark.

Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave. N. Clear Lake, with the Rev. Scott Marcum officiating.

Margaret L. Squier

 

MASON CITY - Margaret L. Squier, 91, of 907 West Congress, Nora Springs, died Wednesday (Feb. 10, 2010) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit-Mason City.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010 at the Grace United Methodist Church, 200 14th St. N.W. Mason City, with Pastor Steve Hansen, officiating. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral service from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 13, 2010.

Memorials may be directed to the family in memory of Margaret.
Margaret was born May 23, 1918, in Cerro Gordo County, the daughter of Walter and Eva (Rummens) Brinkman. Her father died when she was just seven months old.
Margaret's mother remarried John Johnson and he raised Margaret as his own.
Margaret and her family lived on many farms, where she would gather eggs to take to Mason City. She attended school until the 6th grade, when she had to quit to help her family during the Depression.

Margaret married Roger Squier on Oct. 2, 1938, in Greene, Iowa. They were married for 70 years and to this union four children were born. Roger passed away Feb. 24, 2009.
 
Margaret spent most of her life being a wife and mother but she also worked making salads for the Holiday Inn for 11 years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards, she would play at Kentucky Ridge twice a week. Margaret also loved shopping, crocheting, baking and would always invite people to stay for lunch or supper when they visited. Margaret had lived at Kentucky Ridge for two years and modeled clothes for Bonsworth.

Margaret was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her children, Patricia (Dale) Straw, of Waterloo, Jerry Squier, of Chandler, Ariz., and Lorene (Lowell) Johnson, of Rock Falls; her grandchildren, Gary (Karen) Johnson, of Mason City, Sherry (Andrew) Herman, of Lakeland, Fla., Dawn (Jeff) Nielsen, of Waterloo, Michael Straw, of Waterloo, Sandra (Dave) Kidder, of Waterloo, Roger Pierce, of Waterloo, Kimberly Pierce, of Cedar Falls, Tina (Terry) Wolfer, of Phoenix, Ariz., Tiffany (Ryan) Kortman, of Phoenix, Ariz. and Terry Boehnke, of Chandler, Ariz., numerous great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, husband Roger; daughter Sharon; grandsons, David Pierce Jr., Kevin Pierce and Randy Pierce; her granddaughter, Tammy Folwler; two brothers, Walter and Raymond Brinkman; and her sister, Evelyn True.

Tina J. Hardy

Tina J. Hardy, 49, of Minneapolis, Minn., passed away Thursday (Feb 4, 2010) at the University of Minnesota Medical Center of congestive heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.

A memorial will be held at the Spectrum Lighthouse in Minneapolis, Minn.

Tina bequeathed her body to the University of Minnesota Science Department.

Tina was born March 25, 1960, to Jack and Norma (Dornon) Hardy in Minneapolis, Minn. At the age of 10 the family moved to Charles City. She graduated from Charles City High School in 1978.

Tina married Bill Bohannon in 1980. To this union two sons were born.
She later moved back to Minnesota where she resided until her death.
Tina always had a good outlook of life which flowed into many friendships and lives she had touched through the years. She never let obstacles keep her from enjoying each day and getting on her scooter and "just going." She was an inspiration to her family and friends.

Those left to cherish her memory include two sons, William (Tiffany) Bohannon and James (Nicole) Bohannon, both of West Plains, Mo., four sisters, Tara (David) Vancil of Galesburg, Ill., Karla (Jeffrey) Unruh and Karin Peters, both of Fairview, Okla., and Georgia (William) Stonecypher of Clear Lake; one half-sister, Beverly (Carl) Cornell, of Texas; a special friend, Steve Reetz; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a half -brother, Jack George (Butch) Hardy; and grandson, Thomas James Bohannon.

Delores L. Thimmesh

Delores L. Thimmesh, 70, a resident of Osakis, Minn., died Monday (Feb. 8, 2010) at her home.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 12, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Osakis, with Deacon Stan Hennen officiating. Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at the Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis, with a 7 p.m. prayer service. The visitation continued one hour prior to the services at the church.

Arrangements are by Roy-Hetland Funeral Home in Osakis.

Delores Lela Thimmesh was born Oct. 20, 1939, to Fred and Viola (Johnson) Floy in Thornton. She grew up in Ventura, where she attended public schools. Following her education she worked as a waitress and in a bakery in the Mason City/Clear Lake area.

She was united in marriage to Keith Torstenson in Amarillo, Texas. Following their marriage they moved to Osakis in 1978.

She was united in marriage to James Thimmesh at the Methodist Church in Osakis in 1982. She worked as activities director at Bethany Home in Alexandria from 1985 until her retirement in 1994.

She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Osakis and a former member of T.O.P.S. Her hobbies included flowers, dancing, singing, music, reading, rummage sales and going out for lunch.

Delores is survived by a son, James Floy, of Osakis; a daughter, Carla (Jay) Wardell of Osakis; a brother, Donald (Irene) Floy of Decorah; two sisters, Gloria (Harold) Martin of Rockford and Carol (Harold) Pueggel of Garner; five grandchildren, Yvonne, William, Westin, Amber and Allison; and one great-grandson, Gavin.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, James; brother, Marvin; and three sisters, Edna, Rene and Ferne.

Eula A. Trampel

Eula A. Trampel, 92, slipped peacefully into the arms of her savior on Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at Greenhills Health Care Center in Ames.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16, at First Reformed Church in Meservey with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial will be in the Meservey Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Adams & Soderstrum Funeral Home in Ames is in charge of arrangements.

Eula Angeline Trampel, the daughter of Albert and Augusta Veenstra, was born near Cold Springs, Minn., on Aug. 21, 1917. Her father died during the 1918 influenza epidemic and her mother subsequently married Henry Busse and the new family moved to a farm near Goodell.

Eula graduated with a teaching degree from Waldorf College in Forest City and taught in a one-room country school before her marriage to Harmen Trampel on April 5, 1942, at Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in Klemme. Harmen was drafted into the Army in 1942 and served during World War II and Eula lived with her husband at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., San Antonio, Texas, and Brownsville, Texas.

After Harmen's honorable discharge, he and Eula moved to a farm southeast of Swaledale, and in 1947 moved to their farm east of Meservey. They farmed together until they retired and moved to Belmond in 1991. For the last three years of her life, Eula lived in Ames.

Eula was a member of First Reformed Church in Meservey for more than 50 years and enjoyed participating in the Reformed Church Women's Ministry.

Those thankful for sharing her life are her sons, Larry Trampel and his wife, Bonnie, of Albert Lea, Minn., Darrell Trampel and his wife, Christine, of Ames; daughters, Janice Youngblood of Ankeny and Linda Spalla of Mason City; grandchildren, Carol Farris, Roger Trampel, Barbara Larson, Christopher Trampel, Rebecca Eness, Alexander Youngblood, Jennifer Alexander and Sara Spalla; seven great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Margaret Michael of Dyersville and Mildred Busse of Carol Stream, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and infant grand-daughter.

Ruth K. Werner

Ruth K. Werner, 99, a resident of Village Ridge in Marion, formerly of Mason City, died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at her home. Per the family's wishes, there will be no services.

Private family burial will be at a later date at Memorial Park in Mason City.

Arrangements by Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Center in Marion.

Survivors include her son, Bill Werner and wife, Billie, of Anamosa; and daughter, Barb Meeker, of Cedar Rapids; three grandchildren, Tara (Jim) Overschmidt of O'Fallon, Mo., Julie Fitzpatrick (fiancé Eric Tyrell) of Stillwell, Kan., and Sebrina (Chad) Lucas of Cedar Rapids; and four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Elizabeth Overschmidt and Ian and Gavin Lucas.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William; a brother, Eddie Gere; and a sister, Irma Miller.

Ruth was born Oct. 10, 1910, the daughter of William Jr. and Rose (Zimmerman) Gere in Dubuque. She graduated from Dubuque High School in 1928. On May 13, 1939, she married William F. Werner in Dubuque.

Harold A. Ellis

MASON CITY - Harold A. Ellis, age 85, of Mason City died Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa.

Per Harold's request, he will be cremated. Inurnment will take place at a later date in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with military honors conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Memorials may be directed to the Harold A. Ellis memorial fund in care of the family.

Harold was born Dec. 24, 1924, in Mason City, the son of Henry and Elizabeth (Giesick) Ellis. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1943. After high school, he served in the Army from 1943 to 1945.

Harold was united in marriage to Helen J. Stauffacher on June 21, 1947, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Blue Earth, Minn. Harold worked as a plumber for 30 years for Payne Plumbing and Black Plumbing. He was a member of St. James Lutheran and the VFW.

Harold is survived by his wife, Helen of Mason City; daughter, Laura (Jon) Scoles, of Cedar Rapids; son, Dan (Bonnie) Ellis, of Portland, Ore.; grandchildren, Matthew Ward, Molly (Andrew) Olsasky and Sarah Hartell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services for Shirley Hackbarth will be held at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 16, at Morgan United Methodist Church near Dows. Pastor Erling Schultz will officiate. Burial will take place in the Morgan church cemetery.

Gerald Harris

 Sheffield - Gerald Harris, 85, of Sheffield died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at the Sheffield Care Center.

A short service with veterans honors will be 11 a.m. Monday at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield, with the Rev. Art Zewert, chaplain of Legion Post 277, presiding and a salute by Harlow Ray Massee of Post 277 American Legion. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at Retz Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Gerald William Harris was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Sheffield, a son of Frank and Edith (Crook) Harris. He was raised in Sheffield and graduated from Sheffield High School.
Gerald entered the Navy in 1943. He served in the European Theater, landing supplies for the Allied forces following the Normandy Invasion.

After the war he returned home to Sheffield and worked as a brick layer. On June 4, 1947, Gerald was united in marriage with Shirley Jo Rube. They made their home in Sheffield. Later he accepted a job as a housing inspector the HUD program and the family moved to Des Moines. He retired in 1986 and they moved back to Sheffield.

Gerald was an avid sports fan, especially of the Cubs, Twins and his favorite - the Hawkeyes. He had been a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Gerald was one of the first to move into the new Deerfield Place Assisted Living in Sheffield and greatly enjoyed living there.

He is survived by his sons, Michael (Susan) Harris, Sheffield, and Patrick Harris, Salem, Ore.

Gerald is preceded in death by his parents, wife Shirley Jo, in 2000 and brothers Roland and Russell.

Amy D. Johanson

DOWS - Amy passed away Friday (Feb. 12, 2010) at Westview Care Center in Britt at the age of 89 years.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 17, at First Lutheran Church in Dows with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Otis Grove Cemetery near Dows.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church in Dows.

Amy Deloris (Oakland) Johanson, the daughter of Cayton G. and Mabel (Hill) Oakland, was born Jan. 1, 1921, in Badger. She was raised and educated in the area of her birth, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1939 and then attended nursing school at the University of Iowa, graduating in 1943. Amy worked at the University as a registered nurse for four years.

On Oct. 15, 1944, Amy was united in marriage with Otto "Bud" Johanson, in Badger. The couple lived in Providence, R.I., for one year and moved to Laurel for four years. In 1951, they moved to the Dows/Williams area and started farming, retiring in 1989.

Amy was a member of First Lutheran Church-ELCA in Dows. She was very active in her church as she served as president of the congregation and ELCW.

Survivors include her sons, Paul M. Johanson and wife, Melissa, of Leland, Dennis B. Johanson and wife, Gloria, of Britt, Mark E. Johanson and wife, Jackie, of Duchesne, Utah, and John S. Johanson and wife, Lisa, of Arlington Heights, Ill.; daughters, Diane Ryerson and husband, Rich, of Pella and Cynthia Wilson and husband, Wyman, of Vancouver, Wash.; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bud Johanson, in 2009; granddaughter, Andrea Johanson, and a grandson, Aaron Johanson.

Walter Ivan Matzen

MASON CITY - Walter Ivan Matzen, 93, died Thursday (Feb. 11, 2010) at his residence in Hot Springs, Ark.

Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, at the Church of Christ, 2010 14th Ave N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Scott Marcum officiating. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, with military honors provided by the Clear Lake VFW. Memorials will be sent to New Life Christian Church, Hot Springs, Ark.

Visitation will be one hour before the service.

Walter was born Dec. 4, 1917, the son of Andrew and Minnie Matzen, at Mason City. Walter received his education in Mason City, then enlisted in the Army and served during World War II. After discharge from the Army he worked as a meat cutter at the Decker/Armour Meat Packing facility in Mason City.

He met his future wife, who worked in the cafeteria department at Deckers. He married Helen Madge Matzen in 1947 at the First Christian Church in Mason City.
Walter worked as a shoe cobbler as a side job and had a shop in his home in Central Heights of Mason City. They moved to Clear Lake in 1962, at which time he donated his shoe repair equipment to Handicap Village of Clear Lake. The Clear Lake Church of Christ was a central part of his family's life. They attended the church when it was a small building on the corner of 12th and Main and helped build a new church building on this property that is now the AA Office Building. After retirement in 1976, they moved to the rural community of Blockton. Blockton Christian Church and the town were an important part of his life. Walter shared his gardening, black walnut harvests and carpentry expertise with family and friends of the community and the church. He opened his home to those who needed a place to stay. He enjoyed camping, road trips and yearly visits to a religious retreat at the Kiamichi Mountain Clinic. Walter was always there with a smile and helping hand whenever anyone needed help.

Walter was a member of Hot Springs New Life Christian Church, the American Legion and was a lifetime member of the Moose Lodge.

Walter is survived by four daughters, Sandra Dee Larsen and husband, Stephen, of Bella Vista, Ark., Christee Kay Samuelson and husband, Dwayne, of Fairfield, Alta Jane Lekwa and husband, Larry, of Hot Springs, Ark., Vickie Lou Hahn and husband, Alfred, of Nevada; and a son, Mark Lee Matzen, of Trenton, N.J.; along with his immediate family and friends. He will be missed by his many grandchildren and their families, John and Kristin Larsen, Carey Hungerford, Theresa Hungerford, Andrew and Julia Lekwa, Kelly Jo and John McNeill, Stephanie and Alan Lonning, Greg Hahn and Laura Spillane, Monika and Christopher Hinson and Angela Samuelson, and Cassie Markley, Kelsee and Kylie Meyers (the daughters of the late Lisa Meyers).

His was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two sisters, Ella Edgington and Matilda Marvel; four brothers, Paul, Edwin, Lawrence, and Alvin; and granddaughter Lisa Meyer; and great grandson, Jeremy Hungerford.
