Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7, at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., Rockford, with the Rev. Patricia Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Rockford.

Edward Warren was born on June 16, 1923, in Clifford, N.D., the son of Charles Edward and Rose Mae "VanCleave" Houser. He graduated from East High School in Sioux City. He then worked at the Morningside State Bank in the savings department, and in 1941 he moved to the Rockford area to farm until 1992. He was united in marriage to Lois Fern Lines on June 5, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church in Rockford, where he was a member.

Following his farming career he worked at Days Inn as a night auditor and desk clerk.

Lois and Edward raised five children and loved to travel to historical places around the U.S. They enjoyed dancing at the Surf Ballroom, especially square dancing. Ed really enjoyed the outdoors and spent time fishing in Minnesota and Canada and hunting in the area. He played 500 and canasta card games and enjoyed reading western novels and watching western shows. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family at holidays and reunions and attending his children's and grandchildren's school events and activities.

At 80 years old he took the July tractor ride across Iowa on his 1949 tractor. He supported his love of farming by being a board member of the Farm Bureau in Floyd County and the Tri-County Farm Service Board.

He served his church by being the Sunday school superintendent and serving on the church council and was a member of the Lutheran Brotherhood.

Under his pen name of "Scribblin' Ed" he wrote poetry mostly about his faith and family. He cherished honesty. His family always came first. He was ready willing and able to help do carpentry work on his children's homes and build Dixie's dome house.

Those thankful in sharing Ed's life are his five children: Diane Fulk, Slater; Dixie Houser, Kilkenny, Minn.; Doris and her husband, Brad Williams, Rockford; Darla and her husband, Mike Huigens, New Prague, Minn.; David and his wife, Laurie Houser, Mason City; 11 surviving grandchildren: Diane's children, Ed, Jacob, Angela; Doris' children, Barry Marty, Lynette and Jordan; Darla's children, Wayne and Allan; and David's children, Ashley and Adam; eight great-grandchildren and two sisters, Hildreth Barnes, Galveston, Texas, and Hazel Garretson, Colorado Springs, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lois, in 1990; one brother, Durard Houser; one granddaughter, Rebecca Fulk; his son-in-law, Carl; and Lois' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Lines.

Perkins, Marlus I.

CLEAR LAKE - Marlus I. (Lambert) Perkins was born on the Lambert farm north of Clear Lake on Feb. 4, 1911, to Earl and Mette (Julsen) Lambert.

She died on Sunday (Oct. 5, 2008) at her home.

A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 8, 2008, at the First Congregational Church in Clear Lake. Lunch will follow.

In early childhood, she attended the Lambert rural school and then entered the fifth grade at Clear Lake Public School. She drove a pony and buggy to school until entering eighth grade when her grandfather Lambert presented her with a Buick Roadster straight-eight automobile. At that time no driver's license was required.

In high school, she was active in athletics and student groups. Marlus graduated from high school in 1929 with a Normal Training Certificate, which qualified her to teach in rural schools.

She taught in several rural schools where there was no running water and only outdoor toilets, drinking water was carried from home, coal-fired heating had to be restarted after each weekend, and the children and teacher brought their own cold lunches.

On May 2, 1934, Marlus was united in marriage to John H. Perkins, her high school sweetheart, in the First Congregational Church, Clear Lake, by the Rev. W.B. Milne.

In 1936, they purchased the Perkins Dairy from John's parents and moved it from the farm to 114 N. Fourth St. in Clear Lake. When her husband enlisted in the Air Force during World War II, Marlus managed the dairy for two years. She was one of the few women who managed a business in the absence of her husband at that time.

Marlus was secretary of John Perkins Inc., the erosion-control business that she and John ran until their retirement.

Marlus was a 50-year member of Eastern Star, Park Chapter No. 35. She served in various offices and was Worthy Matron in 1942. She was president of Woman's Club in 1952. Additionally, she was past president of Lakeview Club and Today's Club. P.E.O. played a significant role in the life of Marlus. She dearly loved people, especially her P.E.O. sisters.

At the age of 78, she fulfilled a longtime dream of attending college when she took several art classes, including painting and drawing at North Iowa Area Community College. During retirement she took great joy in her painting and photography until failing eyesight curtailed that activity. She created the cover and the illustrations in the book "Of Frogs and Friends" which John wrote and they published in 1997.

In 1993, Marlus and John were honored on Founders Day of First Congregational Church as "The Perfect Team for Getting the Job Done."

In 1999, Marlus was honored as Citizen of the Year for Family, Community and Church by the Clear Lake Rotary Club.

She is survived by her husband, John; daughter, Sandra Kaye Snider, of Wichita, Kan.; daughter-in-law, Dr. Jane M. Perkins, of Chicago, Ill.; three grandchildren, Jeffrey H. (B.J.) Perkins, of Eden Prairie, Minn., Elizabeth Perkins-Brown (James), of Boise, Idaho, and Meredith Perkins, of Chicago, Ill.; and two great-grandchildren, Anthony and Nicolas Perkins.

She was preceded in death by her son, J. Bruce Perkins in 1998; her parents; and her sister, Jeanyce Jacobs.

She received her education in the Greene Public Schools, graduating from Greene High School in 1979. Vickie was baptized and confirmed a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, where she was a faithful member. Vickie participated in the Senior High Choir for four years and was also involved with the speech and drama clubs. Rotta, Eileen M.

FOREST CITY - Eileen M. Rotta, 72, of Forest City died Tuesday (Oct. 7, 2008) at her home in rural Forest City.

Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 10, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, with Father Henry Huber officiating. Burial will be at St. James Catholic Cemetery in Forest City.

Eileen was born to Alice (Reynders) and George Vander Loop in Ladysmith, Wis., on Jan. 8, 1936, the 11th of 13 children. She graduated from Our Lady of Sorrows High School, Ladysmith, in 1954.

Eileen married Frank Rotta in Ladysmith on Oct. 5, 1957, and moved to Milwaukee after Frank completed military service in 1958. In 1961, they moved to suburban Chicago, where she sold Avon and Mary Kay Cosmetics.

In 1973, the family with seven children moved to Forest City when Frank began employment with Winnebago. Later, Eileen also worked at Winnebago Personnel in the late 1970s. She graduated from Hamilton College at age 51.

Eileen's greatest joy and accomplishment was raising her seven children to be happy and successful. She was a volunteer on Forest City's ambulance service and at the Robertelle Center. She loved playing golf, "hand and foot" card game, walking and hiking, lunching with the Red Hat Ladies and watching her grandkids grow up.

After Frank retired from Winnebago in 1990, Eileen and Frank traveled with grandchildren in the summers and spent winters in the south. They traveled all around the United States and visited Australia, Holland, Poland, Germany, Alaska and Mexico.

For the last six years, Eileen and Frank lived in an RV Park in Sun City, Ariz., during the winter. Eileen enjoyed photography, joined a hiking club and the "Choralaires." She is especially proud of her "exhilarating" one-day, 13-mile hike into the Grand Canyon at age 69 and her "singing career" as a soprano in "South Pacific," "Oklahoma" and other productions that the RV Park Choralaires performed. She served as president until she fell ill this year.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Hospice of North Iowa or the St. Vincent de Paul Society, St. Elizabeth Seton Church, Sun City, AZ.

Rosezella L. Koeppel, the daughter of Frederick E. and Elmira (Carrington) Koeppel, was born Aug. 30, 1912, in Creston, Iowa. She attended Creston Public Schools through her sophomore year.

Rosezella was united in marriage to Gunnar O. Kling on April 30, 1932, at Grant City, Mo. The couple's union was blessed with three sons, Miran, Rolland and Richard.

Rosezella and Gunnar bought their home in Belmond in December of 1937. Rosezella was a lifelong homemaker who dedicated her life to helping nurture and provide for the needs of her husband and sons.

Throughout her entire life journey, Rosezella had found great satisfaction and enjoyment spending time in the presence of her family.

In addition to the tasks of being a full-time homemaker, Rosezella had sold magazines for a time in the 1950s. She had also worked for many years as a home health aide and adult sitter, caring for the needs of senior citizens in and around Belmond, many of which were much younger than her.

Her love of people and helping her family, neighbors and friends shown brightly through in her times spent visiting with her husband on their trips to the relatives, vacationing at her children and grandchildren's homes, and her many years of devotion to the needs of others as a volunteer at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Following her Gunnar's passing, Rosezella looked forward to spending times in the spring and fall in Texas. Whether it was a trip on the Amtrak, or an airplane flight she always enjoyed the trek.

Many will remember Rosezella's daily routine of outings to the local hospital and care center to visit with patients and residents, a simple hello, her warm smile, and a brief conversation with both friends and acquaintances often brought a ray of light to those who were blessed by her presence.

Others will remember Rosezella as a very active and vibrant lady whose energy seemed boundless. She had a great love of exercise throughout her life and even in her later years she would look forward to daily excursions about town on her bicycle, or a trip to the Belmond Municipal Swimming Pool for a dip.

Being a breast cancer survivor, Rosezella had particpated in various breast cancer awareness events including one in Texas where she was the oldest particpant in a Walk for Breast Cancer. Rosezella was a lady who always acted younger than her age. One of her proudest accomplishments occurred when she was in her 80s, when she completed her G.E.D.

Rosezella was an excellent seamstress and had made many of her family's clothes with her loving and skilled hands. Two of her favorite lifelong past times were gardening and handicraft. Even in her later years, Rosezella would have various crafting projects going at the same time.

She loved flowers and always had a large garden filled with wonderful produce. Her cupboards and freezer were always overflowing with her delicious canned goods.

She loved to work crossword puzzles, Bonanza Bill, and of course good conversation. In later years she would look forward to the daily routines of watching "The Price Is Right," sometimes spent jounalizing the happenings of the day, a time spent coffeeing, and a visit from her family. She was always a lady of pleasant humor and fun to be around.

Rosezella was a religious lady who had a strong sense of faith throughout her entire life journey. She was a longtime member of the Belmond United Methodist Church. In later years of her life, she looked forward to attending church with her son, Richard, and mother-in-law, Jennie Steenhard, and Jennie's daughter, Sharon Hagie. The Sunday outing would not be complete without a trip out for Sunday dinner to the Pizza Ranch or Cattleman's for her favorite meal which almost always had to include chicken.

Those who had the privilege of crossing in the path of Rosezella's life journey will remember her as a beautiful lady in so many ways, be it her warm and welcoming smile and friendly personality, or her love and devotion to her family and the greater community. They will also reflect fondly upon her strength, endurance, independence and perseverance, as she traveled through the triumphs and tragedies of life including the loss of loved ones and surviving multiple strokes.

Those left to cherish the memories of her life include her sons, Rolland Kling, of Slater, and Richard Kling, of Belmond; three sisters, Dorothy Stokes, of Springfield, Mo., Halycon Jimmerson, of Grand River, Iowa, and Shirley Dodge, of Savannah, Mo.; a sister-in-law, Marian Keoppel, of Davenport; nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
