MASON CITY — Marjorie C. (McKee) Schulte, 96, of Mason City, died Thursday (March 9, 2006) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at  Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Philip Arnold of the First Reformed Church of Alexander officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

GARNER — Donald A. Haes, 84, of Garner, died Friday (March 10, 2006) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Orville DeVere Brandt

LEDYARD — Orville DeVere Brandt, 82, of Ledyard, died peacefully Thursday (March 9, 2006) in his home by the fireplace.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethany Evangelical & Reformed Church, 310 Division St. in Ledyard, with the Rev. Doug Van Der Pol officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery, Ledyard, with military honors conducted by the Ledyard American Legion.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the church and will continue one hour prior to the service on Tuesday.

Eva Arlene Cheever

KIMBERLING, MO. — Eva Arlene Cheever, 65, of Kimberling City, Mo., went home to her Lord on Oct. 28, 2005, after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease and was laid to rest on Oct. 31, 2005, at  Kimberling City Cemetery.

She was born Jan. 19, 1940, at home in West Fork Township, between Sheffield and Dougherty. Eva attended school in Sheffield and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1958.

She married Raymond Cheever in 1960, and to this union three children were born, Tammy (Larry) Lowe of Crawfordsville, Todd Cheever of Conesville and Tonya (Randy) Stalder; and four grandchildren, Larame and Cara Lowe and Austin and Baily Stalder; a brother, Karl, of Rockwell; sisters, Berniece (Arthur) Koeningsberg of Sheffield, Wilma (Hans) Jorgensen, of Mason City, and Beryl (Earl) Jorgensen, of Mason City; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Julia Laudner; brothers, Leland, Clinton and Gerald; and a sister, Alta (Will) Warburton, on Nov. 28, 2005; and her father- and mother-in-law, Ray and Dorothy Cheever.

Cornelius ‘Connie’ John Lynch

MASON CITY — Cornelius “Connie” John Lynch, 83, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., Mason City, died Wednesday (March 8, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

There will be a gathering of family and friends from   1 until 3 p.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2006, at the home of Maggie Groff, 1031 E. State St. in Mason City.

Inurnment will take place with military honors at a later date in the columbarium at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of the arrangements.

Cornelius “Connie” John Lynch was born on May 2, 1922, in Tipton, Iowa, the son of Cornelius J. and Helen M. (Cuniff) Lynch. He attended and received his education in the Tipton School, graduating from Tipton High School. He was inducted into the U.S. Army on Aug. 17, 1940, at Fort Des Moines, and served in the African Theater in World War II and was honorably discharged as a sergeant on June 5, 1945, at the Jefferson Barracks in Missouri. After his honorable discharge, he farmed in the Mitchell County area for a short period. Connie worked for several years for Allied Mills in Mason City until his retirement in the mid-80s.

Connie enjoyed doing yard work, sitting outside visiting with his wife; but his greatest love and enjoyment was his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and also was an usher at the church.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Mary Ellen Lynch, of Mason City; children, Maggie Groff of Mason City, Mary “Dee” Gambrell of Incline Village, Nev., Jan Groff of Incline Village, Nev., and Jim Groff and his wife, Judy, of Brandon, Miss., and Joan West and her husband, Richard, of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren, Mac, Michael, Mandi and her husband, Lance, Luke, Jon, Joe and Kristy; two great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Anna Kate; as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and other siblings.

Nile A. Tack

PLYMOUTH — Nile A. Tack, 87, of 807 Broad St. in Plymouth, died Friday (March 10, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City after a courageous battle with cancer. According to his wishes, he will be cremated and later his ashes will be scattered in a New Mexico mountain range.

Nile was born on Dec. 29, 1918, in Hickory Corner, Mich., son of Viola and Floyd Tack. Nile worked in New Mexico as a lab researcher. He married Doris M. Evans on Aug. 26, 1981, in Mason City.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, of Plymouth; two sons, Gary and Nyle Tack, of Albuquerque, N.M.; two daughters, Shirley Poleqate and Barbara Ealn, of Albuquerque, N.M.; step-daughter, Marlys (George) Kloster, of Des Moines; step-son, Roger (Marilyn) Evans, of Burt; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice M. Emmel

CHARLES CITY —   Bernice M. Emmel, 89, of 600 Freeman St. in Charles City, died Wednesday evening (March 8, 2006) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at the First Christian Church, 807 S. Main St. in Charles City, with the Rev. Margaret Hutchens and the Rev. Phil Corr officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Bernice’s services Monday at the church.

Bernice Mary Emmel was born Jan. 2, 1917, to Lawrence and Elva (Barker) Bauer in Cresco, Iowa. She attended and graduated school in Charles City.

Bernice was united in marriage to John H. Emmel on March 23, 1937. Bernice had been a homemaker throughout the years. She had lived in Charles City for 87 years. Bernice was devoted to her faith and very active in the First Christian Church in Charles City. She was a member of the church, a pianist for the church, a deaconess and elder, sang in the church choir, was a Sunday school teacher and involved with the building committee, all with the First Christian Church in Charles City.

Other organizations that Bernice was involved in throughout her life included the Central Star Club, the ’34 Gals and participated as 4-H club leader.

Survivors include her husband, John H. Emmel, of Charles City; three daughters, Marjorie (Joe) Cromey of Albuquerque, N.M., Darlene (Dean) Vincent of West Chester, Ohio, and Joyce (Richard) Knight of Floyd; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Elva Bauer; an infant grandson; and her brother and sister-in-law, Glen and Jean Bauer.

Brent Eskildsen

Brent Eskildsen, 36, formerly of Mason City, tragically passed away Sunday (March 5, 2006) from injuries sustained while riding his motorcycle in Ocotillo Wells, Calif. He was enjoying one of many favorite pastimes with his oldest son, Kyle, and some of his closest friends.

Brent was an active member of the community, participating in Habitat for Humanity events nationwide, and a devoted 12-year employee of Centex Homes.

Brent enjoyed boating in Havasu, golfing and riding in the desert. He touched many lives by donating his time to help families in need by building homes with the Jimmy Carter Work Foundation and participating in an Extreme Home Makeover project in Seattle, Wash.

He will be sadly missed and dearly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother and son. Spending as much time as possible with his family, Brent lived life to the fullest. Friends describe him as a man of integrity, honesty, dedication, generosity and tireless energy.

Brent is survived by his wife of 16 years, Laura; son, Kyle, 14; daughter, Sabrina, 10; and son, Nathan, 6. In addition, he is survived by his identical twin brother, Brad; brothers, Brian and Jeremy; his mother, Becky Eskildsen; his dad, Larry and wife, Su, Eskildsen.

He was preceded in death by Steven and Karen Eskildsen.

In honor and celebration of his life and memory, there was a viewing from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Stout Family Funeral Home, in Murrieta, Calif.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, March 11, 2006, at the Rancho Community Church on Highway 79 S. in Temecula, Calif.

A celebration of his life will immediately follow the service at Monteleone Meadows in Murrieta. All are invited to attend.

Ruth F. Stump

MASON CITY — Ruth Frances Stump, 84, of 1502 S. Coolidge, died Thursday (March 9, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with Pastor Thomas Healey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Ruth Frances Whitson was born July 23, 1921, in Waterloo, the daughter of Thomas E. and Blanche M. (King) Whitson.

Ruth graduated Mason City High School in 1939. Ruth was united in marriage to Virgil Stump on May 4, 1945, together they raised eight children.

Ruth loved bird watching, bowling, camping, gardening, and baking. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Ruth’s greatest love was raising her children and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Larry (Laurene) Stump of Mesa, Ariz., Betty Kidd of Lorane, Ore., Beatrice Potts of Cleveland, Ga., Tom (Nancy) Stump of Clear Lake, Faye Ranc of Mason City and Jay Stump of Mason City; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; special friend, Margo Hicok, of Nora Springs, along with other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Donald and Ray Stump; brother, William Whitson, grandsons, Loren Stump, Rickey Demsien and Bruce Thompson.

Hilda Anonson

CLEAR LAKE — Hilda Anonson, 101, of 17396 Kingbird Ave., Mason City, died Thursday (March 9, 2006)  at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 1001 Ninth Ave. S. in Clear Lake, with Monsignor Robert Hogan officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Hilda was born May 18, 1904, the daughter of George and Mary (Lohmann) Schulte, in Wagner, S.D. She attended and graduated from Emery High School in 1924, and continued her education at Beadle College in Madison, S.D., where she earned a teacher’s certificate. Hilda taught in Mobridge, Gettysburg and Emery, S.D.

Hilda married Leo Kernan, July 3, 1945, in Mason City. She then taught fourth-grade students at Rockwell and Swaledale until she retired. Hilda married Kermit Anonson on Dec. 19, 1981, in Clear Lake. She enjoyed playing bridge and then later 500. She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Hilda is survived by her two step-daughters, Marilyn (Maynard) Koenen of Hampton and Valda Brandt of Escondido, Calif.; one sister, Florine Duxbury, of Salem, S.D.; a brother, Arnold (Mary) Schulte, of Grinnell; and several stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, two brothers, Ralph and August Schulte; and one sister Alma McNaboe.

Carol Ann Meyer

MASON CITY — Carol Ann Meyer 66, of 1205 N. Washington Ave., died Thursday (March 9, 2006) at her home.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City, with Pastor Thomas Healey officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Carol A. Meyer was born Dec. 24, 1939, in Walters, Minn., the daughter of Harold and Erma (Awe) Meyer. She attended various schools around the Mason City area.

She was employed with United Hydraulics in Hampton, Milepost 194, now Denny’s, in Clear Lake, Eaton’s in Belmond, and she retired from Bill’s BBQ where she worked for nine years until she became stricken with cancer.

Carol loved her job of being the only waitress at Bill’s BBQ, she loved her customers and enjoyed seeing them regularly. She became wonderful friends with her boss, Jaylene Whipple, and her husband, Steve Whipple. Carol loved gardening with her neighbor, Jan Bergan, and filling up her bird feeders to feed “her” birds.

She was an avid collector of bears, stuffed ones and all sorts of bear trinkets, and blankets. When Carol wasn’t outside doing her yard work, she loved cooking her wonderful meals and singing and dancing to her country music while cleaning her house. She also loved Elton John and Elvis.

Some of Carol’s favorite things to do were playing jokes on family and friends watching her Vikings beat the Packers, and shopping at Wal-Mart, but most of all spending time with her family, grandkids and great-grand kids.

Carol lived life to the fullest, each and every day like it was her last. Now that she is gone, she will be missed by her family and friends; and to anyone who came in contact with her it was truly a blessing and an honor to have known her.

The family of Carol would like to give a special thank you to Hospice and the American Cancer Society for all the help and care received by them.

Survivors include two sons, Larry Meyer and his wife, Tracey Meyer, of Hampton, and Jim Brunstein of Mason City; three daughters, Vicki Johnson and boyfriend, Russ Roath, of Mason City, Kelly Brunstein and Jody Spear of Mason City and Tina Miller and Ryan Compton of Mason City; 14 grandchildren, Lucas Meyer, Jessica Johnson, Kelly Haack, Becky Carr, all of Hampton, Cody, Dustin and Amanda Brunstein, all of Dumont, Crystal Richards of Missouri, Cameron Brunstein of Missouri, Danielle Roath of Mason City, Mysti May and Dexter Jo (pug dogs) of Mason City, Patience Meyer, Chayse Whitney, Bobby Miller and Hunter Miller, all of Mason City; six great-grandchildren, Sydney Meyer, Cammie Haack, Braydon Johnson, all of Hampton, and Shania, Haley and Shown Richards, all of Missouri; one brother, Richard Meyer, of Mason City; and one sister, Betty Lichman.

Michael Scott ‘Eddie’ Edwards

GREENE — Funeral services for Michael Scott Edwards, 50, of 215 S. Fourth St. in Greene, will be 2:30 p.m. Monday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel, 519 N. First St. in Greene, with Pastor Ashok Patet and Pastor Gene Burry officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery, Greene.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel where there will be a public Scripture service at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the chapel.

Michael Scott Edwards was born Dec. 25, 1955, at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, a son of Charles Leo and June Marie (Cummings) Edwards, and died Wednesday (March 8, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

He graduated from Council Rock High School in Newtown, Pa., in 1974. Mike attended Chesapeake College, obtaining his AA in 1984 and completed one year toward his BA degree at the University of Maryland. He graduated from the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy in 1984 and later received his certification from the Delaware State Police as a Doppler radar operator. He also attended the Security Specialist Air Force Military Training Center in Lackland AFB.

Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1975 and was stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base, South Dakota. He served with the 44th Security Missile Wing, 44th Missile Security Squadron, and was a member of Flight 67-2. He also worked in the 68th area guarding missiles. Following Mike’s discharge in 1979, he moved to New Jersey.

On May 26, 1979, he was united in marriage to Janet Louise Daiker at the Church of the Brethren in Denton, Md., and this union was blessed with two sons. He and his family moved to Greene in 1990, and he later became employed at the United States Postal Service in Mason City where he worked until his death.

Mike’s spiritual journey began when he gave his life to the Lord in July 1976 and received the Holy Spirit on Oct. 23, 1988. Mike was a very active member of the Church of the Brethren and it’s yoke parish, United Methodist Church. He taught adult Sunday school and was a member of the Pastor Parish Relation Committee. He filled in at the pulpit when asked.

He was an avid reader and enjoyed fishing and hunting. His greatest hobby was model building, which he started doing at a very young age. Mike loved flying in a Cessna 150, having soloed and done cross-country flights.

Living family members include his loving wife of 26 years, Janet, of Greene; two sons, Michael Alan (friend Stephanie) and Christopher Mark Edwards, both of Greene; mother, June Edwards, of Church Hill, Tenn.; two brothers, Charles F. Edwards of Manitou Springs, Colo., and Mark (Sandra) Edwards of Peoria Heights, Ill.; mother- and father-in-law, Don and Mary Daiker of Greene; two sisters-in-law, Freda (Greg) Collins, of Delaware and Dorothy Daiker of Texas,  and one brother-in-law, Blair Daiker of Texas; and two nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles L. Edwards, on June 1, 1994.

Loren Franklin Dougherty

CLARION — Loren Franklin Dougherty, 87, of Sanford, Fla., formerly of Clarion, passed away Sunday (March 5, 2006).

Funeral services for Loren Dougherty will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2006, at Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home, 602 N. Main St. in Clarion, with Pastor Tim Platt officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ewing Dugger Helgeson Funeral Home and continue one hour prior to services at the funeral home.

Loren Franklin Dougherty was born Oct. 10, 1918, in Ackley, Iowa, to Earl and Gertrude Dougherty. He passed away March 5, 2006, in Lake Mary, Fla. He moved from Iowa Falls at an early age to Clarion, where he completed his schooling, graduating with the class of 1936.

After high school he enlisted in the United States Navy, retiring after 20 years. He was with a dive bombing squadron attached to the aircraft carrier Bunker Hill during World War II. He was on the Bunker Hill during numerous battles in the islands and when she was attacked and crippled by kamikaze air strikes. He also served in the Korean War.  He moved to Sanford in 1955 where he completed his enlistment in the U.S. Navy. He worked for Martin Marietta in Orlando, Fla., for 30 years.

Loren was a deacon for the Sanford Church of Christ for many years. He was a contributor to the Central Florida Blood Bank, having donated 30 gallons of blood.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruth Roberts Dougherty; daughters, Jan Dougherty (friend Mike Hutton) of Sanford, Anne Lucas (John) of Lake Mary; grandsons, John Stuart (Diane) of Severn, Md., Mathew Lucas of Columbus, Ohio, and Phillip Lucas of Lake Mary; brothers, Dale Dougherty of Clarion, and Russell Dougherty of Belmond; and a sister, Gerene Smith, of Eagle Grove. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.

ROCKFORD — Diane Tynan, 51, of Rockford, formerly of Charles City, died Thursday (March 9, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Diane Tynan will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church in Charles City with Pastor David Werges officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery in Charles City.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City, and continue on Tuesday an hour prior to the service at the church.

Diane Marie McDonald Tynan was born Nov. 25, 1954, in New Hampton, the daughter of James and Darlene (Johnson) McDonald Jr. She graduated from Marion High School in 1973. On Dec. 15, 1973, she was united in marriage to Richard Tynan Sr. in Cedar Rapids.

During her career she worked with Kid’s Castle and also was the proprietor of the Rockford Diner. She was a member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church and Women of the Moose.

Diane enjoyed cooking and will be remembered for her potato salad. She also collected spoons and teddy bears. The grandchildren always held a very special place in her heart and she always looked forward to attending their activities.

Living family members include her husband, Richard Tynan Sr., of Rockford; two children, Richard (Tonia) Tynan Jr., of Rockford and Racheal Tynan (Jeremiah G. Ferch) of Charles City; seven grandchildren, Mercedes and Lexus Tynan, and Cole, Chelsea, Justice, J.J. and Jesup Ferch; two brothers, Terry (Rhonda) McDonald of Cedar Rapids and Dennis (Mary) McDonald of Marengo; a sister, Tamie McDonald of Atkins, Texas; a special aunt and uncle, Ronald and Anna Hurd of Nashua; special friends, Lynette and DuWayne Paulsen of Rockford; and several nieces and nephews.

CLEAR LAKE — Elizabeth Rasmus, 55, of Clear Lake, passed away Saturday (March 11, 2006) at North Iowa Hospice in Mason City after a battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Inurnment will be at the Osage Cemetery.

Elizabeth was born Feb. 19, 1951, in Osage, the daughter of Alfred and Elfriede (Cechak) Danzow. Elizabeth graduated from Osage High School in 1969 and continued her education at La’James School of Cosmetology. She was employed by Hair Designer at Clear Lake.

Elizabeth married Ken Rasmus in 1971 and to the union came one son, Shad. Elizabeth enjoyed knitting, sewing and counted cross stitch. Lizz made many beautiful wall hangings and afghans over the years.

Elizabeth will be greatly missed by her son, Shad  Rasmus, of Clear Lake; one brother, Paul and wife, Nancy, Danzow of Osage; sister, Renate and husband, Fred Van Valkenburg, of Tennessee; an aunt, Elizabeth Cummings, of Osage; and good friends Kermit and Judy Studer of Clear Lake.

Evelyn Thomas Oslund

MASON CITY — Evelyn Thomas Oslund, 100, passed away on Friday (March 10, 2006) at the Good Shepherd Health Center in Mason City.

No public services are scheduled.

She was born Nov. 4, 1905, the daughter of Ellsworth and Mary Thomas in Meservey. Evelyn graduated from Meservey public schools and Iowa State Teacher’s College. Prior to being married, she taught at an all-boys school in Davenport.

In 1936, Evelyn was united in marriage to J. Edward Oslund, a Lutheran minister. She became a master partner, serving the Lord with her husband. Their ministry included three years at Alcatraz Prison, heading up a haven at the King George Hotel in San Francisco for service men returning from World War II, starting the first Lutheran Church in Reno, Nev., and serving their last parish in Portland, Ore.

Evelyn was an accomplished server and cook. She was born a gifted poet, artist and actress. Evelyn has touched the lives of so many people in a wide variety of ways and had the gift of bringing out the best in people. This world is a better place to live in because of her life. We love her and thank her for her love.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters, Viola, Thelma and Lois; a nephew, March Nicholson; and a great-nephew, Larry Easter.

Surviving family members include a niece, Barbara Montgomery, husband and family; nephew, Lynn Peters, wife and family; nephew, Paul Peters, wife and family, and nephew, Brent Peters. She is also survived by a host of great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

URBANDALE — Robert D. Toft, 73, of Urbandale, formerly of Belmond, died Tuesday (March 7, 2006) at the Kavanaugh Hospice House Center in Des Moines.

A public memorial visitation will be held from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 17, 2006, at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E., Belmond. A private interment of Robert’s ashes will be held for family and relatives at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 18, 2006, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in rural Belmond.

Rob was born in Belmond, the son of Thomas and Blanch (Ulstad) Toft on Sept. 12, 1932. Robert was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church in Belmond. He attended Belmond High School and graduated with the class of 1951. Robert served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955, and spent time in Germany during his military tenure.

Rob had worked for periods of time at the SC Office in Clarion and at the Des Moines Register. He retired from (CDS) Communication Services in Des Moines. Robert enjoyed playing guitar and in earlier years flying ultralight airplanes.

He had been a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Des Moines for many years.

Rob is survived by a sister, Doris Nuehring of Belmond; brothers, Roger and wife, Kay, Toft of Surprise, Ariz., Clifford Toft, Belmond, Jerry and wife, Delores, Toft of Urbandale, and Ev and wife, Judy, Toft of West Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Mary Toft, wife of the late Thomas, Jr., of Woodland, Calif., and Marlys Toft of Johnston; and many nieces and nephews.

Donald Arthur Haes, the son of Arthur and Bertha (Goll) Haes, was born Feb. 9, 1922, on a farm north of Garner. He received his education in the Garner schools. After graduating from Garner High School in 1939, he began farming. On Feb. 21, 1944, he married Ann Schmidt at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Garner. They lived on a farm north of Garner until 1974, when they moved into Garner. After retiring from farming in 1984, Don and Ann enjoyed spending their winters in Texas and Arizona. Don loved farming, traveling and fishing.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and had served on the Farmer’s Cooperative Elevator Board in Garner.

MASON CITY — Marjorie C. (McKee) Schulte, 96, of Mason City, died Thursday (March 9, 2006) at Good Shepherd Health Center.

Marjorie C. Jensen was born Feb. 2, 1910, the daughter of Carson and Catherine (Christensen) Jensen in Mitchell County. She attended school in Mitchell County and at the Osage Seminary. Marjorie was baptized and confirmed at Rock Creek Lutheran Church at Osage.

She was united in marriage to Cliff McKee on June 19, 1928, in Osage. Marjorie and Cliff worked side-by-side on the farm until his untimely death in 1964.

Following his death, she moved to Clear Lake where she owned and operated Marjorie McKee’s Dress Shop for many years. Later, she worked at Verna’s Dress Shop in Clear Lake and in the dress department at Bergo’s in Mason City.

Marjorie was later married to John Schulte in February 1971 in Alexander. In 1986, Marjorie and John moved to Mason City. She was an active member of the First Reformed Church of Alexander.

Marjorie worked hard all of her life, be it on the farm or in the house. She loved to be in the country and always enjoyed traveling. Her favorite part of traveling, however, was coming home. Marjorie loved her family dearly and they will always remember her exquisite needle-point, being an excellent cook, and an excellent housekeeper. Marjorie was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.  Marjorie’s special smile will be dearly missed by all those that knew her.

She is survived by her daughters, Dorothy (Bob) Harman of Plymouth, Betty Christensen of Ventura, and Joyce (Al) Toppin of Clear Lake; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Wayne) Anderson of Plymouth, Julie (Brent) Kuntz of Grafton, Doug (Cindy) Christensen of Cedar Falls, Tom (Gracie) Christensen of El Paso, Texas, Dick (Tracy) Christensen of Cedar Rapids, Susan (Brad) Clark of Clive, Robert Fulk of Rudd, Dennis Fulk of Rudd and James Fulk of Rock Falls; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and four step-daughters, Edith McClure, Sharon Anderson, Jeanine Hettinga and Suzanne Bridges and their families.

June Irene (Ashland) Galloway

OSWEGO, Ill. — June Irene (Ashland) Galloway, 75, of Oswego, passed away on March 6, 2006, at The Tillers Health Care.

June Ashland Galloway was born June 10, 1930, to Chris and Vera Ashland in Clear Lake.

June was a graduate of Waldorf College and the University of Northern Iowa. June retired in 1993 from Oswego High School. During her retirement, she also taught English as a Second Language (ESL) at Waubonsee Community College part time. She was a member of San Francisco de Asis (Grace Lutheran) for 52 years and was very active in her church.

Family was a very important part of June’s life. She valued her time with her children, grandchildren, family and friends. During her retirement years, she spent a great deal of time at the family cottage in Clear Lake, Iowa. She valued the time at the lake in which she had the opportunity to spend with her family and lake friends.

June is survived by a son, Steve (Stephanie Boughton), of Hinckley, Ill.; a daughter, Lisa (Mark) Brown, of Bettendorf; grandchildren, Loren Galloway, Mitch and Morgan Brown; a sister, Virginia Grimm, of Clear Lake, a sister-in-law, Phyllis Morrison and her husband, Don, of Clear Lake; sisters-in-law, Helen Scott of Mankato, Minn., and Mary Ruth Shelman of Fairfield; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Lois Pauline Cox was born Dec. 19, 1913, in Northwood, the daughter of Marion and Bertha (Shepley) Cox. Lois graduated from Otranto High School in 1932.

She was united in marriage to Lloyd Humphrey on Dec. 24, 1933, in Mason City; to this union three children were born. Until their retirement in 1978, together Lloyd and Lois farmed in the Clear Lake area.

Lois enjoyed reading and volunteering. Her greatest love was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, Women’s Club, and the Busy Bee Club.

Survivors include her two sons, David (Karleen) Humphrey, Clear Lake, and Steve (Jane) Humphrey, Ventura; daughter-in-law, Dolores Huffman, Ventura; grand-children, Dean (Brenda) Humphrey, Gene Humphrey, Kelly (Jimmy) Walbaum, Brook (Chad) Hayes, Angela (Marlyn) Pruisman, Stephanie Humphrey and Wade Humphrey; great-grandchildren, Brittney, Joshua, Megan, Madeline, Kaitlyn, Ivy and Davis; one brother, Babe (Jeanne) Cox, of Knoxville; along with other relatives and friends.

Joan was born June 21, 1940, in Holdingford, Minn., the daughter of Alfred P. and Alvina H. (Rakotz) Dobis. She graduated from Holdingford High School in 1958.

Joan was a member of  St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Joan was an excellent seamstress and dressmaker. She crafted clothing for family and friends, and also created many of the vestments and banners used at St. Patrick’s. She enjoyed sewing, dancing, soap operas, genealogy and especially spending time with her family.

Joan married Benno Evens on April 13, 1959, in Holdingford, Minn. He preceded her in death in 1968. Joan married Richard R. Hughes on Nov. 7, 1970, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Joan is survived by her children, Rose Burke, Red Wing, Minn., Benno Evens and wife, Stacy, Grand Forks, N.D., and Heather Hughes and husband, Tom McNamar, Coralville; mother, Alvina Dobis, Holdingford, Minn.; brother, Robert Dobis and wife, Joann, Holdingford, Minn.; sister, Sharon Nathe and husband, Robert, Sr., Avon, Minn.; stepchildren, Marian McConathy, Yuba City, Calif., and Larry Hughes and wife, Bonnie, Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Brent Eskildsen

Brent Eskildsen, 36, formerly of Mason City, tragically passed away Sunday (March 5, 2006) from injuries sustained while riding his motorcycle in Ocotillo Wells, Calif. He was enjoying one of many favorite pastimes with his oldest son, Kyle, and some of his closest friends.

Brent was an active member of the community, participating in Habitat for Humanity events nationwide, and a devoted 12-year employee of Centex Homes.

Brent enjoyed boating in Havasu, golfing and riding in the desert. He touched many lives by donating his time to help families in need by building homes with the Jimmy Carter Work Foundation and participating in an Extreme Home Makeover project in Seattle, Wash.

He will be sadly missed and dearly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother and son. Spending as much time as possible with his family, Brent lived life to the fullest. Friends describe him as a man of integrity, honesty, dedication, generosity and tireless energy.

Brent is survived by his wife of 16 years, Laura; son, Kyle, 14; daughter, Sabrina, 10; and son, Nathan, 6. In addition, he is survived by his identical twin brother, Brad; brothers, Brian and Jeremy; his mother, Becky Eskildsen; his dad, Larry and wife, Su, Eskildsen.

He was preceded in death by Steven and Karen Eskildsen.

In honor and celebration of his life and memory, there was a viewing from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Stout Family Funeral Home, in Murrieta, Calif.

CLEAR LAKE — Enid H. Glanville, 86 of Clear Lake, and formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (March 11, 2006) at the Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake.

Enid was born on April 24, 1919, the daughter of Anna M. TeKippe (Poppinga) and William Cordas in Mason City. She attended school in Ventura and graduated from Ventura High School in 1937. Enid was united in marriage to Dean Glanville on March 15, 1938, at the Methodist Church Parsonage in Hampton.

Enid and Dean lived in Ventura for a short time after they were married and later moved to Mason City where they lived until recently.

Enid and Dean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1988 and have shared in each others’ lives for almost 68 years.

Enid was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Mason City where she tended to the flowers at the church for many years. She was also a member of the Women’s Circle and the Mason City Garden Club.

Enid and Dean shared their love of square dancing; they have square danced all over the United States and Canada. They both have a wide circle of friends from square dancing throughout the U.S.

Enid loved to be outside with her flower and vegetable gardens. She also enjoyed camping and many picnics at Clear Lake.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Dean of Clear Lake; son, Tom Glanville and wife, Mary Jo, of Ames; granddaughters, Abby Glanville of Iowa City, and Kate Gerken and husband, Mike, of Lawrence, Kansas; sisters-in-law, Mary Stoynoff and husband, Bill, of Ventura, Jean Riley and husband, Bill, of Clear Lake; cousin, Maxine Stoltenberg and husband, Walter, of Nora Springs.

Ruth M. Murphy

CHARLES CITY — Ruth M. Murphy, 90, died Saturday evening (March 11, 2006) at the Ninth Street Chautauqua Guest Home in Charles City, where she was a resident.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Fullerton-Hage Funeral Chapel, 401 Blunt St. in Charles City with the Rev. David Werges officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday at Fullerton-Hage Funeral Home in Charles City prior to the service.

Russell Dale Richtsmeier

ACKLEY — Russell Dale Richtsmeier, 71, of Ackley, died on Saturday (March 11, 2006) at the Heritage Care Center in Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley with burial in the Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema Funeral Home, 501 Tenth Avenue in Ackley, with family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Russell was born on July 12, 1934, in Ackley, the son of George William and Helen Carol (Weber) Richtsmeier. He received his education at country school south of Ackley and graduated from Ackley High School before attending Coe College in Cedar Rapids and Iowa State in Ames.

He served his country in the United States Army.

He was united in marriage to Roberta LuAnn Snow on Aug. 15, 1965, at the Ware Methodist Church. The family farmed outside of Ackley for many years.

Russell was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Ackley and was a member of the choir. He was also a member of the Elliott-Keninger Post No. 252 of the American Legion and sang with the Twin Town Barbershop Chorus of Waterloo/Cedar Falls for more than 22 years. He enjoyed football and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife, Roberta of Ackley; son, Chris and wife, Denise, Richtsmeier of Ackley; daughter, Darla and husband, Jeff Thiessen of Chelsea; daughter, Lynda and husband, Dean Krumm of Iowa Falls; son, Dale and wife, Kate Richtsmeier of Clear Lake; daughter, Georgia Richtsmeier of Mason City; son, Dan Richtsmeier and special friend, Casie Harrenstein, of Ackley; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and brother, Don and wife, Shirley, Richtsmeier of Hollandale, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

OSAGE — Borghild Sorlie, 102, of Osage, died Saturday (March 11, 2006) at Osage Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Osage.

Michael ‘Hoss’ Simon

STACYVILLE — Michael “Hoss” Simon, 34, of Cannon Falls, Minn., formerly of the Stacyville area, died Saturday (March 11, 2006) near Winter, Wis., of injuries he received in a snowmobile accident.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Visitation Catholic Church, where there will be rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a scripture service at 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be given to the Michael Simon Memorial Fund, 4286 Monument Ave., Osage, IA 50461.

He was born on Sept. 30, 1971, at Osage, the son of Wilbur and Charlotta (Winkels) Simon. He attended Visitation Catholic School in Stacyville, graduated from Osage High School in 1990, and graduated from Dakota County Technical College in Rosemont, Minn., with a degree as a heavy equipment mechanic. He was currently employed at Truck Crane Service and Phillippi Equipment Company in Eagan, Minn.

He enjoyed hunting bear and deer, NASCAR racing, snowmobiling, and cooking for family and friends.

“Hoss” was always willing to help people, and enjoyed life.

Michael is survived by his parents, Wilbur and Charlotta Simon, Stacyville; three sisters: Audrey (Robert) Umstead, Orchard, June (David) Retterath, McIntire, and Carol (Jason) Tesch, Carpenter; two brothers, Terry Simon, Hastings, Minn. and Ricky (Christal) Simon, St. Paul, Minn.; two nieces; one nephew; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
