CHARLES CITY - Neville Ripley "Bill" Allen Jr., 95, of Charles City, died Monday (Feb. 13, 2006) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in Charles City.

Cremation has taken place with Cremation Services of North Iowa in Mason City. Private family interment will be held in the summer of 2006 at the Osage City Cemetery in Osage.

Memorials may be directed in care of Bill's daughter, Merideth A. Chelberg, 2224 Second St., White Bear Lake, MN 55110. The family will then forward to the IRIS - Iowa Radio Reading Information Service for the Blind.

MASON CITY - Helen Margaret Arndt, 90, of 2220 22nd St. S.W. in Mason City, died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 2502 S. Jefferson Ave. in Mason City, with the Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18 West, Mason City.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.

The family of Helen Margaret Arndt has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City in her memory.

Helen Margaret Arndt was born on Sept. 14, 1915, in rural Rockwell, the daughter of Herman and Anna (Hansen) Stoltenberg.

Helen was baptized and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation in the Lutheran faith in Rockwell. She attended and received her education in the rural Rockwell schools.

She was united in marriage to Howard Arndt on July 4, 1933. After their marriage, Helen was a stay-at-home mom where she loved and cared for her family.

She enjoyed sewing, embroidering, writing and sending cards to family and friends, baking, cooking, and keeping a record of the daily weather; but her great love and enjoyment was spending time with her family and grandchildren.

She was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Mason City.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert Arndt and his wife, Darlene, of Mason City, Donald Arndt of Scranton, Pa., and Charles Arndt and his wife, Kay, of Enid, Okla.; five grandsons, five granddaughters, 19 great-grandchildren, and one great-great granddaughter; two brothers, Walter "Boot" Stoltenberg and his wife, Maxine, of Nora Springs, and Roger Stoltenberg and his wife, Donna, of Mason City; as well as several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Her parents, husband, Howard; and two brothers, Eddie and Virtus Stoltenberg, preceded Helen in death.

MASON CITY - John F. "Jake" Burke, 81, of Mason City died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at The Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating, where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Humane Society of North Iowa.

John F. Burke was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Mason City, a son of Harry J. and Ida (Fox) Burke. He was united in marriage to Jacque J. Hurley on July 11, 1953, at Mason City.

Jake attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A stockbroker for many years, Jake retired from A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc. in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque Burke of Mason City; a son, Tom Burke and his wife, Peggy, of Des Moines; two daughters, Staci Burke and her husband, Phil Rawson, of Des Moines; Shawn Burke and her husband, Paul Scott, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Colin Burke of Iowa City, Jake Burke, Caroline Scott, Meredith Scott and Burke Scott, all Des Moines.

His parents and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Tom, preceded him in death.

LOWDEN - James R. "Rudy" Hepler, 33, of Lowden, died Monday (Feb. 13, 2006) at Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport from a blood infection.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Wheatland with the Rev. Laird Keever officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Church Cemetery.

Visitation was held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 15, at Chapman Funeral Home in Wheatland.

James R. Hepler was born Aug. 25, 1972, in Bethesda, Md., to Fred L. and Brenda (Moore) Hepler.

He was united in marriage to Diana McDonnell (Schocker) on April 5, 2003, at Wheatland.

Jim attended high school in Hampton and three years at North Iowa Community College in Mason City. He had worked as a salesman. Jim loved his family dearly, Michelle and James were the "loves" of his life.

He was an avid sports enthusiast and enjoyed most any sport, he had a photographic memory for sports trivia. He also was a motorcycle enthusiast along with golf. He was the best Cub fan ever. Online condolences may be sent to www.chapmanfh.com.

ALLISON - Marie Henrietta (Hoodjer) Hinders, 83, of Allison, died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

SHEFFIELD - Allen James Kammrad, 80, of Sheffield, died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at First Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield with the Rev. Ken Livingston presiding. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery, Sheffield.

Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday and continue until time of services at the church.

Allen James Kammrad was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Mott Township, Franklin County, a son of Carl and Emily (Mordick) Kammrad. Allen was raised attending Salem Methodist Church in Chapin and later transferred to Evangelical United Brethren Church in Sheffield. He graduated from Sheffield High School. He then entered the U.S. Army, serving in World War II in the Philippines.

When Allen returned home after serving in the military he went to work for the Chicago-Northwestern Railroad. He was based out of Hampton and worked for more than 40 years in track maintenance.

In the 1970s, Allen moved to Hampton while working for the railroad, he moved back to Sheffield and lived in the Sunrise Apartments until recently. Allen was a member of Sheffield Post 277 American Legion and lived his life as a devoted Christian man.

Allen is survived by nephews, Rick (Sandy) Kammrad of Forest City, Ron (Donna) Lutcavish of Norwalk, Dick (Pat) Kammrad of Mason City, Don (Kathy) Kammrad of Garner; sisters-in-law, Eileen (Jerry) Lutcavish of Sheffield and Bernadine (Carl) Hulsing of Sheffield; and six great-nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Lynn, Melvin and Ed.

MASON CITY - Philip David Meyer, 38, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue one hour before the service Monday at the church.

Memorials may be directed to Opportunity Village and NIVIC.

Phil was born Oct. 10, 1967, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of David P. and Sharon (Hathaway) Meyer. Philip was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through confirmation at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended the Mason City schools in the special education classes and graduated with the class of 1985. Phil worked at NIVIC performing a variety of different jobs. He worked at Target for four years.

The last and most important job to Phil in his life, was his job at Hy-Vee West. He was the "Bagger" there and enjoyed talking to everyone, it was hard to enter the store without Phil seeing you and starting up a conversation. He was so friendly and had such a good sense of humor his parents often received compliments from people who ran into Phil. Phil always greeted you with a hearty hand shake.

Phil's greatest passion was his "family." He enjoyed family vacations, get-togethers, game-playing, and just spending time sitting and visiting. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his close friends being "out and about."

Philip is survived by his parents, David and Sharon Meyer of Mason City; sisters, Kimberly Platts of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; nieces, Kari Platts of Ames and Melissa Piper of Clear Lake; nephew, Michael Piper of Clear Lake; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; great-uncles; cousins; and close friends, Bobby Kelley, Val Mujica and Phil Fountas.

Philip was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vern and Eva Hathaway; and paternal grandparents, Paul and Marie Meyer.

Meyers, Juanita Clements
 
CLEAR LAKE - Juanita C. Meyers, 84, of Clear Lake died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls from complications due to cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Klemme United Methodist Church in Klemme, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.

Those wishing to express their sympathies through a memorial may direct them in care of Juanita's family to her son, James L. Clements, 126 Joanne, Cedar Falls, IA 50613.

Juanita, the daughter of Wallace Frush and Johanna Catarina (Coobs) Pavey, was born April 6, 1921, in Klemme. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1938.

On Oct. 12, 1940, she married John Dwight Clements at the Methodist Church in Estherville. They lived in Klemme where they operated the Klemme DX service station and repair business for many years. John passed away Nov. 8, 1968. She then worked for the Garner school system.

In 1974 she married Howard Meyers and they lived in Clear Lake where she worked part-time at the Surf Ballroom. He passed away in 1989.

She continued to reside in Clear Lake until December 2005 when she moved to the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

Juanita enjoyed visits from family and friends. She also enjoyed the companionship of her cats, Tina and Millie. She spent hours watching the birds that came to her feeders. Her family greatly treasured her talent of crocheting, cross-stitching and quilting, as through the years she created many beautiful heirloom afghans and quilts.

Juanita is survived by her sons, James (Karon) Clements of Cedar Falls and Jerry (Judy) Clements of Aiken, S.C.; four grandsons, Jeffrey (Kris) Clements of Cedar Falls, Jonathan Clements of Ames, Jason (Sheri) Clements of West Des Moines and Jon A. Clements of North Augusta, S.C.; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Pavey of Webster City; and several nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and two infant sisters.

Reichenbacher, Nancy Jean
 
OSAGE - Nancy Jean Reichenbacher, 57, of Osage, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at her home near Little Cedar. Nancy was born June 20, 1948, in Aurora, Ill., the daughter of Edward and Evelyn (Bowers) Stewart. She graduated from East Aurora High School.

Nancy married John Reichenbacher on Oct. 19, 1968, at the Fourth Street United Methodist Church in Aurora. She worked at Aurora Savings and Loan. Nancy enjoyed her role as a faithful farmer's wife, a stay-at-home mom and owner of Days Gone Bye. She loved her family and friends and treasured being a grandma to her eight grandchildren. She also enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and crafts. Nancy loved people. Her heart was big enough to love anyone.

She was a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church, Christian women's club, and was a Bible study leader. Nancy was a faithful prayer warrior and follower of Jesus Christ. She believed in the youth of today and financially supported them in the church. She had a patriotic spirit and believed in the freedoms of our country and honored those who fought for it. Her ultimate dream was to be a wife and a mom. Nancy fulfilled both roles with her whole heart.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Osage with Pastor Rich Cogan and Pastor Monte Follis officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, and will continue one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

Nancy is survived by her husband, John Reichenbacher of Osage; her children, William (Aimee) Reichenbacher of Nashua, Jennifer (Kris) Beam of Long Lake, Minn., and Andrew (Melissa) Reichenbacher of the Phillipines; her mother, Evelyn Stewart of Coulter; her eight grandchildren, Ed, Brienna and John Reichenbacher, Vivian, Anna, and Allison Reichenbacher, and Emeleine and Lillian Beam; and her sister, Judy (Jim) Krause and their children, Robert and Kathleen, of Latimer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Edward Charles Stewart.

BUFFALO CENTER - Emeralda Senne, 96, of Buffalo Center, died Sunday (Feb. 12, 2006) at Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

Strohman, Orville Russell
 
FOREST CITY - Funeral services for Orville Russell Strohman, 84, of Forest City, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley, Minn., with the Rev. Gerald Gauthier II officiating. Burial will be in Sioux Valley Cemetery in Sioux Valley, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Hansen Funeral Home in Lakefield, Minn., and one hour prior to services at the church.

Orville Russell Strohman, son of Peter and Myrtle (Miller) Peterson, was born on Jan. 22, 1922, in Clay County, Iowa. At the age of two, Orville was adopted by his aunt and uncle, Jerry and Olive Strohman. He grew up on the family farm in Sioux Valley Township, Jackson County. Orville graduated from Sioux Valley High School in 1941.

He married Eva Hartman on Dec. 12, 1943, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Sioux Valley. Following their marriage, the couple lived on the farm for 44 years before moving to Lakefield where they lived for 18 years.

Orville passed away on Monday (Feb. 13, 2006) at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City at the age of 84 years and 22 days old.

Orville is survived by his wife, Eva Strohman of Forest City; a daughter, Joyce, and her husband, Grant Russell, of Fertile; three sons, Ken and his wife, June Strohman, of Fertile, Russell Strohman of Dunnell and Darrell and his wife, Patricia Strohman, of Chandler, Ariz.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, Ed and his wife, Merlene Peterson, of Eagle Grove; a sister, Bernice Rogers of Davenport and a sister-in-law, Mary Peterson of Eagle Grove.

Orville was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Peterson; a sister, Illa Miller; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Velma (Strohman) and John Jacobson and Florence (Strohman) and Ernest Wulf.

GARNER - Isabel Stromer, 84, of Garner died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Peace Reformed Church south of Garner with the Rev. Jeff DeBoer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. today at the Peace Reformed Church.

Isabel Sophie Stromer, the daughter of William D. and Emma (Dreyer) Dohrmann, was born Oct. 9, 1921, on a farm near Hampton. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1939.

Isabel worked as a receptionist at the hospital in Marshalltown, at Damon's Department Store in Mason City and also helped farm with her parents on the family farm.

On Nov. 25, 1949, she was married to Harold Stromer at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Latimer. They farmed north of Klemme all of their married lives. Due to ill health she moved to Concord Care Center in July of 2000.

She enjoyed her family, gardening and cooking. She was a member of Peace Reformed Church and Women's Missionary Society. She was also a Cub Scout and 4-H leader.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hanson (Dr. Clement) of Denver, Colo., and their children, Benjamin and Anne; her son, Dean Stromer (Debbie) of Klemme and their three children, Dan and his fiancée, Mindy Jenniges, Jessica and William and his wife, Mandy; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Dohrmann of Hampton and Ruby Stromer of Garner; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stromer on Sept. 12, 1987; a granddaughter, Grace Hanson, Oct. 20, 1980; her parents; a sister, Ethel Dreyer; a brother, Willard Dohrmann; and a brother-in-law, Walter Dreyer.

Barrett M.D., Dr. Russell G.  
 
EUREKA, Calif. - Dr. Russell G. Barrett M.D. passed away at 11:30 a.m. Saturday (Feb. 4, 2006) at the age of 71 years.

Dr. Barrett was born in Macomb, Ill., on Oct. 15, 1934. He spent his early childhood in Illinois until his family relocated to the San Bernardino, Calif., area when he was 11 years old. He graduated from Colton High School in 1952 and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served in the reconnaissance and demolition team. He was honorably discharged from the Marines in 1957 with the rank of sergeant.

After military service he continued his education at San Bernardino Valley College, the Universi ty of Illinois and the University of Redlands, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in zoology and a minor in chemistry.

On Feb. 11, 1961, he married Lupe Becerra, his lifelong partner for the last 45 years.

Dr. Barrett received the degree of Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University, New Orleans, La., in 1967. He opened a family practice in Rockford, Iowa, where he practiced for more than 20 years before relocating to Eureka, Calif., in 1990. He was a family practice instructor and clinical lecturer for the University of Iowa, Iowa City, Iowa, and Mayo Medical School, Rochester, Minn. He practiced medicine in Eureka until his retirement in 2003.

Dr. Barrett was an ardent conservationist throughout his life. Late in life he became a supporter of progressive environmental movements and a passionate critic of the policies of George W. Bush and the War in Iraq. He was a lifelong member of the Marine Corps League. He belonged to the Latin American Club.

Dr. Barrett spent the last years of his life raising pigeons and orchids, surrounded by the redwood forest that he loved.

He is survived by his wife, Lupe; his son, Geoffrey, 40; his daughter-in-law, Lois; his granddaughter, Faolán, 2; his son Kenneth, 36; his daughter-in-law, Aleta and granddaughter, Xea, 2, and his son, Derek, 34, and Derek's fiancé, Adriana Cárdenas; and his sister, Linda Kay Moseley. He was a kind and loving person to everyone.

Viewing was at Pierce Mortuary Chapel, 707 H Street in Eureka, on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006, from 1 to 5 p.m. with the rosary at the mortuary at 7 p.m.

The funeral Mass was held at Sacred Heart Church, 2085 Myrtle Avenue in Eureka, at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, his and Lupe's 45th wedding anniversary.

MASON CITY - Gladys Sophia Furness Bartlett, 92, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at Denton Good Samaritan Village Health Center in Denton, Texas.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, 2006, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Manly. Burial will be in the Manly Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E. in Mason City.

Gladys was born April 4, 1913, at Hanlontown, the first child of Sivert and Ida Furness. She graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1931 and graduated from Waldorf College with a business degree. She married John Bartlett on June 14, 1937.

After graduation, she worked as a teller in the Forest City National Bank. She and John owned and operated Tipton Feed and Seed Store in Tipton. In 1967, they moved to Fort Dodge where she managed the Iowa Central Community Book Store while taught John taught.

Since retirement in 1980, they traveled and spent winters in Arizona. After John passed away in 1992, she moved to Denton, Texas, to be close to her daughter, Luanne.

She was preceded in death by her husband; both parents; and two brothers, James and Edwin Furness.

Survivors include four children, son, John Clifford Bartlett, and wife, Carol, Whitney, Texas, son, James Lowell Bartlett, and wife, Elizabeth, of Cedar Rapids, son, Paul Russell Bartlett, and wife, Connie, of Liberty, Mo., and daughter, Luanne Linke, and husband, Gayle, of Denton, Texas; six grandchildren, Christopher, Maria, Karen, Connie, Joseph and Timothy; nine great-grandchildren, Emily, Sophia. John, Kaitlyn, Rachel, Matthew, Stephanie, Tyler and Macy; sisters-in-law, Ardith Furness, Julia Bartlett and Dorothy Bartlett; as well as other relatives and friends.

MASON CITY - John F. "Jake" Burke, 81, of Mason City died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at The Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating, where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

John F. Burke was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Mason City, a son of Harry J. and Ida (Fox) Burke. He was united in marriage to Jacque J. Hurley on July 11, 1953, at Mason City.

Jake attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A stockbroker for many years, Jake retired from A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc. in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque Burke of Mason City; a son, Tom Burke and his wife, Peggy, of Des Moines; two daughters, Staci Burke and her husband, Phil Rawson, of Des Moines; Shawn Burke and her husband, Paul Scott, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Colin Burke of Iowa City, Jake Burke, Caroline Scott, Meredith Scott and Burke Scott, all Des Moines.

His parents and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Tom, preceded him in death.

MASON CITY - Philip David Meyer, 38, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue one hour before the service Monday at the church.

Phil was born Oct. 10, 1967, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of David P. and Sharon (Hathaway) Meyer. Philip was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through confirmation at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended the Mason City schools in the special education classes and graduated with the class of 1985. Phil worked at NIVIC performing a variety of different jobs. He worked at Target for four years.

The last and most important job to Phil in his life, was his job at Hy-Vee West. He was the "Bagger" there and enjoyed talking to everyone, it was hard to enter the store without Phil seeing you and starting up a conversation. He was so friendly and had such a good sense of humor his parents often received compliments from people who ran into Phil. Phil always greeted you with a hearty hand shake.

Phil's greatest passion was his "family." He enjoyed family vacations, get-togethers, game-playing, and just spending time sitting and visiting. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his close friends being "out and about."

Philip is survived by his parents, David and Sharon Meyer of Mason City; sisters, Kimberly Platts of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; nieces, Kari Platts of Ames and Melissa Piper of Clear Lake; nephew, Michael Piper of Clear Lake; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; great-uncles; cousins; and close friends, Bobby Kelley, Val Mujica and Phil Fountas.

Philip was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Vern and Eva Hathaway; and paternal grandparents, Paul and Marie Meyer.

CLEAR LAKE - Juanita C. Meyers, 84, of Clear Lake died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at the Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls from complications due to cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Klemme United Methodist Church in Klemme, with the Rev. Paddy Druhl officiating. Burial will be in the Ell Township Cemetery in Klemme.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at the church.

Juanita, the daughter of Wallace Frush and Johanna Catarina (Coobs) Pavey, was born April 6, 1921, in Klemme. She graduated from Klemme High School in 1938.

On Oct. 12, 1940, she married John Dwight Clements at the Methodist Church in Estherville. They lived in Klemme where they operated the Klemme DX service station and repair business for many years. John passed away Nov. 8, 1968. She then worked for the Garner school system.

In 1974 she married Howard Meyers and they lived in Clear Lake where she worked part-time at the Surf Ballroom. He passed away in 1989.

She continued to reside in Clear Lake until December 2005 when she moved to the Cedar Falls Health Care Center.

Juanita enjoyed visits from family and friends. She also enjoyed the companionship of her cats, Tina and Millie. She spent hours watching the birds that came to her feeders. Her family greatly treasured her talent of crocheting, cross-stitching and quilting, as through the years she created many beautiful heirloom afghans and quilts.

Juanita is survived by her sons, James (Karon) Clements of Cedar Falls and Jerry (Judy) Clements of Aiken, S.C.; four grandsons, Jeffrey (Kris) Clements of Cedar Falls, Jonathan Clements of Ames, Jason (Sheri) Clements of West Des Moines and Jon A. Clements of North Augusta, S.C.; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Wayne Pavey of Webster City; and several nieces and nephews.

Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and two infant sisters.

GARNER - Isabel Stromer, 84, of Garner died Tuesday (Feb. 14, 2006) at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Isabel Sophie Stromer, the daughter of William D. and Emma (Dreyer) Dohrmann, was born Oct. 9, 1921, on a farm near Hampton. She graduated from Hampton High School in 1939.

Isabel worked as a receptionist at the hospital in Marshalltown, at Damon's Department Store in Mason City and also helped farm with her parents on the family farm.

On Nov. 25, 1949, she was married to Harold Stromer at the Evangelical and Reformed Church in Latimer. They farmed north of Klemme all of their married lives. Due to ill health she moved to Concord Care Center in July of 2000.

She enjoyed her family, gardening and cooking. She was a member of Peace Reformed Church and Women's Missionary Society. She was also a Cub Scout and 4-H leader.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Hanson (Dr. Clement) of Denver, Colo., and their children, Benjamin and Anne; her son, Dean Stromer (Debbie) of Klemme and their three children, Dan and his fiancée, Mindy Jenniges, Jessica and William and his wife, Mandy; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Dohrmann of Hampton and Ruby Stromer of Garner; many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Stromer on Sept. 12, 1987; a granddaughter, Grace Hanson, Oct. 20, 1980; her parents; a sister, Ethel Dreyer; a brother, Willard Dohrmann; and a brother-in-law, Walter Dreyer.

Merlyn Doyle Brunner was born April 12, 1921, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, a son of Michael and Anna (Heinz) Brunner, and died Thursday (Feb. 16, 2006) at Liebe Care Center in Greene.

He received his education in the rural school near his home and graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1940. While in high school, he played basketball and baseball. He later was pitcher for several fastpitch softball teams in the area, including the Barth Chevrolet team. He was rated as one of the top four pitchers in the state.

Merlyn started farming with his father at an early age, and later went out on his own. On March 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to June Jeanette Gantenbein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard.

They moved on to their present farm east of Marble Rock where to this union were born two sons.

He enjoyed hunting and trapping. In his later years, he made the rounds in Greene and Marble Rock drinking coffee. He became an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan after his grandson, Greg, started playing basketball for the University of Iowa team. Merlyn was a member of the Greene Sportsman Club and also served on the Marble Rock Co-op Elevator Board.

Living family members include his two sons, Tim Brunner of Marble Rock, and Tom (Gayle) Brunner of Charles City; three grandchildren, Richard (Janice) Torres of Troy, Ohio, Greg Brunner of Iowa City, and Amy Brunner of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Merna Teeple of Greene and Marie Ackley of Chillicothe, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June, on July 12, 1996; his parents; two sisters, Phyllis Craig and Betty Stanbrough; and three brothers, Nicholas Brunner, Robert Brunner and Orville Brunner.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials in memory of Merlyn Brunner to the Marble Rock First Responders or the Greene Volunteer Ambulance.

TEMPLE TERRACE, Fla. - Robert "Bob" Cavanaugh of Temple Terrace, Fla., died at his home Sunday (Feb. 5, 2006) in Temple Terrace.

Robert was born March 14, 1919, in Worcester, Mass. He was a communicant of St. Jean Baptiste Church and graduated high school in Dracut, Mass.

He was married to Dorothy Burke on Jan. 1,1937, in Lowell, Mass. Bob was a member of the United States Army Air Corps, serving in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Bob worked for KGLO radio and KGLO television in the 1950s. He was also general manager of KSMN radio in the 1960s. He also worked for Mohawk Advertising in Mason City. He was very active in the Red Cross and was past president of the Mason City Sertoma Club.

After moving to Florida in 1968, Bob was employed by the city of Tampa, Fla., as a project auditor until his retirement in 1986.

ROCKWELL - James L. "Jim" DeVary, 67, of Rockwell, died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at his home.

James L. DeVary was born on April 30, 1938, in Swaledale, the son of Frank and Dorothy (Evans) DeVary. He graduated from Mason City High School in 1957.

Jim worked for Dewey Electric and later Kehm Electric as an electrician for 42 years, and in that time he only missed seven days of work.

Jim was united in marriage to Dorothy Behr on Feb. 20, 1960. They would have celebrated their 46th year of marriage this February. Jim was a faithful and wonderful husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend.

Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, a lifelong union electrician, and a member of IBEW Local No. 288, Waterloo.

Jim liked to junk scrap metal. He was an avid NASCAR racing fan and regretted missing the Daytona 500, he also enjoyed the Minnesota Vikings. Jim loved to drive a scenic route in his truck, "Old Yeller." There were three things that Jim absolutely lived by, his shop, good "jimmyburgers' and copper.

He will be greatly missed and loved by his wife, Dorothy, Rockwell; four children, Mike DeVary, Rockwell, Mindy (John) Welling, Rockwell, Danny (Jayme) DeVary, Scottsdale, Ariz., and Steve (Sarah) DeVary, Peculiar, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Makenzie, Mika and Benton Welling, Rockwell, Colin DeVary, Marble Rock, Caysie DeVary, Scottsdale, Ariz., Liam DeVary, Peculiar, Mo., and Cian DeVary, Mason City; mother-in-law, Mary H. Behr, Rockwell; two brothers, Duane (Barb) DeVary, Mason City, and Virgil (Dorothy) DeVary, Garner; two sisters-in-law, Delores (Larry) Bernemann, Manly, and Rilla (Pete) Arnold, Mason City; five brothers-in-law, Chuck (Sue) Behr, Mason City, Lee (Debbie) Behr, Rockwell, Ron (Bev) Behr, Rockwell, Paul Behr, Aurora, Colo., and Dennis (Jane) Behr, Rockwell; and many nieces, nephews.

DOUGHERTY - Margaretha L. Hogan, 84, of Dougherty, died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

Margaretha L. Hogan was born September 1, 1921, at Hamburg, Iowa, a daughter of Emil and Josephine (Ellerson) Miller. She was united in marriage to Raymond C. Hogan on June 25, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

She attended West Union Schools and was a graduate of West Union High School, West Union. Following their marriage, Ray and Margaretha made their home in Dougherty. For several years she worked in customer service at Sears & Roebuck, Mason City.

Margaretha enjoyed traveling, visiting her family, antiques and swapping recipes.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion-Auxiliary, and the Domestic Club, all in Dougherty.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine (Cathy) and her husband Jim, Aurora, Colo., and Laura Hogan, Sheffield; a grandson, Jared Arndt, Sheffield; two brothers, Robert (Loretta) Miller, Calif., Ken (Cheryl) Miller, Sisters, Ore.; a sister, Donna Ruth (Jack) Ulstad, Sisters, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rose (John) Scanlon, Minnetonka, Minn. and Nancy Hogan, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Marvin McKee, St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; and brother in-law, Charles J. Hogan.

MASON CITY - Philip David Meyer, 38, of Mason City, died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue one hour before the service Monday at the church.

Phil was born Oct. 10, 1967, in Mason City, Iowa, the son of David P. and Sharon (Hathaway) Meyer. Philip was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through confirmation at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended the Mason City schools in the special education classes and graduated with the class of 1985. Phil worked at NIVIC performing a variety of different jobs. He worked at Target for four years.

The last and most important job to Phil in his life, was his job at Hy-Vee West. He was the "Bagger" there and enjoyed talking to everyone, it was hard to enter the store without Phil seeing you and starting up a conversation. He was so friendly and had such a good sense of humor his parents often received compliments from people who ran into Phil. Phil always greeted you with a hearty hand shake.

Phil's greatest passion was his "family." He enjoyed family vacations, get-togethers, game-playing, and just spending time sitting and visiting. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his close friends being "out and about."

Philip is survived by his parents, David and Sharon Meyer of Mason City; sisters, Kimberly Platts of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; nieces, Kari Platts of Ames and Melissa Piper of Clear Lake; nephew, Michael Piper of Clear Lake; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; great-uncles; cousins; and close friends, Bobby Kelley, Val Mujica and Phil Fountas.

AUSTIN, Minn. - Donna Mae Rogers, 73, of Austin, Minn., died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at her home surrounded by her family.

Donna was born Nov. 12, 1932, in Waverly, to T.J. and Rosalinda (Baker) Monaghan. She graduated from Osage High School.

On Feb. 5, 1953, she was united in marriage to Galen Rogers. The couple then moved to Austin, Minn., where they raised their family.

Donna enjoyed playing golf and solitaire, wintering in Arizona and getting together with family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Galen Rogers, of Austin, Minn.; daughter, Laurel (Lloyd) Madson of Austin, Minn.; sons, Mike (Val) Rogers of Austin, Minn., Steve (Dale) Rogers of Austin, Minn., Mark (Michelle) Rogers of Crystal Lake, Dan (Brenda) Rogers of Austin, Minn., and Doug (Denise) Rogers of Forest City; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Bernie (Betty) Monaghan of Sacramento, Calif., Don Monaghan of Ionia, Gerald (Pern) Monaghan of Waverly, Ray Monaghan of Waverly, Jim (Jennifer) Monaghan of Waverly; sisters, Shirley (Gerald) Langham of Minneapolis, Rosie (Ed) Bahlmann of Waverly, and Carol Lander of Greene.

ST. ANSGAR - Harlan M. Sponheim, 76, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday (Feb. 16, 2006) at home.

Harlan Marshall Sponheim was born on Nov. 25, 1929, to Melvin and Alma (Evenson) Sponheim in Osage. He was baptized on Jan. 27, 1930, and confirmed on April 18, 1943, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Harlan graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State University for one year.

Harlan married Dorothy Groth on Nov. 19, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and to this union three children were born. Harlan served on church council, as a soil conservation commissioner and on the Osage Elevator Board. He will be remembered as a loving father and husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of St. Ansgar, children, Dennis (Bunita) Sponheim of St. Ansgar, Wayne (Anita) Sponheim of St. Ansgar and Dianne (Craig) Stange of Bismark, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Brandau, Terry Sponheim, Shawn, Drew and Kara Jo Sponheim, Kimberly and Christopher Stange; and one sister, Agnes (Vernon) Gordon of Northwood.

OSAGE - H. Gertrude Weinschenk, 91, of Osage, died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Faith Home in Osage.

Gertrude was born Nov. 18, 1914, at Osage, the daughter of Hans and Anna (Rinnan) Walstad. She graduated from Osage High School and received her teacher's normal training at Cedar Valley Seminary in Osage. She taught for two years at a country school and for one year at Sacred Heart Catholic School in Osage.

On July 22, 1936, she was married to Melvin J. Weinschenk at Sacred Heart Catholic Church by Father Baxter. They had five children. Throughout her life, she enjoyed playing basketball, cards, tennis, bowling, golf, cooking, gardening and traveling.

She was a member of the Sons of Norway, the Sacred Heart Guild, and Bible Study Group. Gertrude lived her entire life in Osage and resided at Faith Home since December 2000.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at St. Peter's Cemetery at New Haven.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a rosary at 5:15 p.m. Friends may also call until 10:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Gertrude is survived by a daughter, Sonia Angell of Osage; two sons, Russell (Janice) Weinschenk of Rochester, Minn., and Jerome (Lorrie) Weinschenk of Mason City; 15 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin, in 1973; a daughter, Colleen Card; a son, Marcus; three sisters: Harriet, Thelma, and Ellen; a brother, Ernest; and a stillborn granddaughter.

MARBLE ROCK - Funeral services for Merlyn D. Brunner, 84, of 2021 280th St., Marble Rock, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Greene with Pastor Gary Hatcher officiating. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Marble Rock.

Merlyn Doyle Brunner was born April 12, 1921, in rural Union Township, Floyd County, a son of Michael and Anna (Heinz) Brunner, and died Thursday (Feb. 16, 2006) at Liebe Care Center in Greene.

He received his education in the rural school near his home and graduated from the Marble Rock High School in 1940. While in high school, he played basketball and baseball. He later was pitcher for several fastpitch softball teams in the area, including the Barth Chevrolet team. He was rated as one of the top four pitchers in the state.

Merlyn started farming with his father at an early age, and later went out on his own. On March 12, 1950, he was united in marriage to June Jeanette Gantenbein at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Maynard.

They moved on to their present farm east of Marble Rock where to this union were born two sons.

He enjoyed hunting and trapping. In his later years, he made the rounds in Greene and Marble Rock drinking coffee. He became an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan after his grandson, Greg, started playing basketball for the University of Iowa team. Merlyn was a member of the Greene Sportsman Club and also served on the Marble Rock Co-op Elevator Board.

Living family members include his two sons, Tim Brunner of Marble Rock, and Tom (Gayle) Brunner of Charles City; three grandchildren, Richard (Janice) Torres of Troy, Ohio, Greg Brunner of Iowa City, and Amy Brunner of Cedar Rapids; two sisters, Merna Teeple of Greene and Marie Ackley of Chillicothe, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his wife, June, on July 12, 1996; his parents; two sisters, Phyllis Craig and Betty Stanbrough; and three brothers, Nicholas Brunner, Robert Brunner and Orville Brunner.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials in memory of Merlyn Brunner to the Marble Rock First Responders or the Greene Volunteer Ambulance.

MASON CITY - John F. "Jake" Burke, 81, of Mason City died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at The Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating, where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Humane Society of North Iowa.

John F. Burke was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Mason City, a son of Harry J. and Ida (Fox) Burke. He was united in marriage to Jacque J. Hurley on July 11, 1953, at Mason City.

Jake attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A stockbroker for many years, Jake retired from A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc. in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque Burke of Mason City; a son, Tom Burke and his wife, Peggy, of Des Moines; two daughters, Staci Burke and her husband, Phil Rawson, of Des Moines; Shawn Burke and her husband, Paul Scott, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Colin Burke of Iowa City, Jake Burke, Caroline Scott, Meredith Scott and Burke Scott, all Des Moines.

His parents and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Tom, preceded him in death.

CLEAR LAKE - Iola Mae Cash, 87, of Apple Valley Assisted Living, Clear Lake, died Saturday, (Feb. 18, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, 508 Second Ave. N., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Jan Burnett officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake. Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.

The family of Iola Mae Cash has requested that memorial contributions be made in her memory.

Iola Mae Cash was born on Dec. 5, 1918, in Emmetsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Charles Elmo and Pearl (Lawman) Barber. She attended and received her education in the Whittemore community school, graduating from Whittemore High School. Iola also attended and graduated from a cosmetology school in Des Moines. After completing her schooling, she began her career at the Pastel Beauty Shoppe in Clear Lake. She was united in marriage to Robert Cash on Sept. 10, 1939, in Clear Lake. After their marriage, she continued work for the Pastel Beauty Shoppe. Iola started her own beauty salon called "The Country Curl" in rural Clear Lake and owned and operated her business for several years until her retirement.

She enjoyed cooking, dancing, mowing her lawn, spending holidays, especially Christmas, with her family, and loved to entertain her family and friends.

Iola traveled with her son, Walt, throughout the United States with the National Easter Seal Society.

She was a member of the Clear Lake United Methodist Church, Busy Bee Neighborhood Club and the softball Pasture League.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Virginia Bless and her husband, Jack, of Oklahoma City, Okla., Mike Cash and his wife, Nancy, of Ventura, and Walt Cash of Clear Lake; five grandchildren, David Bless and his wife, Kiyon, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Michaela Backes and her husband, Dr. Rick Backes, of St. Cloud, Minn., Todd Cash and his wife, Jennifer, of Mason City, Rob Cash and his wife, Jamie, of Muscatine, and Ryan Cash and his wife, Shana, of Garner; five great-grandchildren, Brianna Backes, Kaitlynn Cash, Madalynn Cash, Gabriella Backes and Brody Cash; two sisters, Myrtle Meyer of Whittemore and Margaret Jahr of Mankato, Minn.; two brothers, Bob Barber and his wife, Doris, of LuVerne, and Dick Barber and his wife, Ellen, of Columbus, Ohio; as well as several nieces and nephews and other relatives and many friends.

DOUGHERTY - Margaretha L. Hogan, 84, of Dougherty, died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

A funeral Mass will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Dougherty, with the Rev. Craig E. Steimel and the Rev. John O'Connor, officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Dougherty.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. Patrick's School, Dougherty where a scriptural wake service will be held at 7 p.m.

Margaretha L. Hogan was born September 1, 1921, at Hamburg, Iowa, a daughter of Emil and Josephine (Ellerson) Miller. She was united in marriage to Raymond C. Hogan on June 25, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

She attended West Union Schools and was a graduate of West Union High School, West Union. Following their marriage, Ray and Margaretha made their home in Dougherty. For several years she worked in customer service at Sears & Roebuck, Mason City.

Margaretha enjoyed traveling, visiting her family, antiques and swapping recipes.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion-Auxiliary, and the Domestic Club, all in Dougherty.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine (Cathy) and her husband Jim, Aurora, Colo., and Laura Hogan, Sheffield; a grandson, Jared Arndt, Sheffield; two brothers, Robert (Loretta) Miller, Calif., Ken (Cheryl) Miller, Sisters, Ore.; a sister, Donna Ruth (Jack) Ulstad, Sisters, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rose (John) Scanlon, Minnetonka, Minn. and Nancy Hogan, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Marvin McKee, St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ray; and brother in-law, Charles J. Hogan.

MASON CITY - The Rev. Albert J. Kleinsasser, 94, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave. died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St. with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue at the church one hour before the service.

Memorials may be given to the American Baptist International Missions.

The Rev. Kleinsasser was born on March 13, 1911, in Dinuba, Calif., the son of Andrew and Susanna (Stahl) Kleinsasser.

He was raised on a farm near Huron, S.D., where he would later teach rural school.

He attended high school in Yale, S.D., for two years then graduated from Freeman Academy, Freeman, S.D. The Rev. Kleinsasser furthered his education at Freeman Junior College, then graduated from John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa. He also attended the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif., and did graduate work at the American Baptist College in West Covina, Calif.

He married Helen A. Wiens on April 11, 1942 in Dinuba, Calif. Throughout his career, the Rev. Kleinsasser served churches in Alsen, N. D., Bonesteel and Fairfax, S. D., Ellendale, N.D., Watertown, S.D., Chino, Calif., Ft. Morgan, Colo., Superior and Guide Rock, Neb.

Following his retirement in 1976, the Rev. Kleinsasser and wife, Helen, moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they helped establish and were charter members of the Judson American Baptist Church.

The Rev. Kleinsasser also served six churches in Nebraska in an interim capacity. The Kleinsassers moved to Mason City in 1993.

The Rev. Kleinsasser was a former member of the Cosmopolitan Club and Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Noon Kiwanis Club, American Baptist Ministers Association and a past board member of the Friends of College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and attending as many of his grandchildren's athletic events as he could.

The Rev. Kleinsasser will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh and wonderful stories of his life growing up in South Dakota.

He deeply loved his family and was deeply loved in return. His call to the ministry was one he honored until his death.

He is survived by his sons, Keith Kleinsasser and wife Gretchen of Cottage Grove, Minn., the Rev. Albert J. Kleinsasser Jr. and wife, Linda, of Woodbury, Minn.; daughter, Bonnie Peterson and husband, Douglas, of Mason City; grandchildren, Zachary Kleinsasser, Heidi Cole and husband, Nathan, Joel and Allison Kleinsasser, Michael Peterson and wife, Kendra, Dustin and Noelle Peterson; four step-grandchildren, Katy Dieffenbach, Andrea Emde and husband Brian, Benjamin and Alicia Dieffenbach; sister-in-law, Lydia Kleinsasser of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen; son, John Mark Kleinsasser in 1957; two brothers, Andrew and the Rev. Zach Kleinsasser; two sisters, Susie and Adena.

BELMOND - Jessie Eleanor Archerd Mechem, age 99, of Belmond, passed away Saturday (Feb. 18, 2006) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Memorial services for Jessie Mechem will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Mike Druhl will officiate. A private family inurnment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

There will be a short visitation before the service at the church.

The family requests memorials be directed toward Easter Seals and/or Salvation Army.

Jessie Mechem, the daughter of Leslie and Lucie Merrington Warnes Archerd, was born on Feb. 16, 1907, in Eagle Grove. She grew up in Clarion and graduated from High School in 1923. Jessie attended Cornell for three years and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1927. She worked as Secretary for the Clarion superintendent of schools and taught piano before being married to John Ross Mechem on Jan. 1, 1931.

The couple farmed near Clarion until 1966, when they moved to Emmetsburg. She served until 1979 as a member of the Iowa Health and Welfare Department. Ross passed away in 1974. Jessie moved to Belmond in 1983.

She enjoyed her expansive family, gardening and music. Jessie played the piano throughout her life to the delight of all who heard her. She was gifted. Jessie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, 50-year member of P.E.O. and the Eastern Star, and belonged to Navy Mothers and Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Griffin, of Waxahachie, Texas; two sons, Leslie and wife, Constance, of Berthoud, Colo., and Frank and wife, Mary, of Clarion; fifteen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-like cousin, Florence Michaelsen, of Goleta, Calif.

Jessie was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, Ross; daughter, Florence Noelck, and her husband William; sister, Elizabeth Woodin, and her husband, Dick; two granddaughters, Sarah and Megan Mechem.

MASON CITY - Philip David Meyer, 38, of Mason City, died Wednesday, (Feb. 15, 2006) at his residence.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E. with Pastor Paul C. Nelson officiating. Interment will be at 1 p.m. in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Phil was born Oct. 10, 1967, in Mason City the son of David P. and Sharon (Hathaway) Meyer. Philip was baptized and reaffirmed his faith through confirmation at St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City. He attended the Mason City schools in the special education classes and graduated with the class of 1985. Phil worked at NIVIC performing a variety of different jobs. He worked at Target for four years. The last and most important job to Phil in his life was his job at Hy-Vee West. He was the "Bagger" there and enjoyed talking to everyone, it was hard to enter the store without Phil seeing you and starting up a conversation. He was so friendly and had such a good sense of humor his parents often received compliments from people who ran into Phil. Phil always greeted you with a hearty hand shake. Phil's greatest passion was his "family." He enjoyed family vacations, get-togethers, game-playing and just spending time sitting and visiting. Phil also enjoyed spending time with his close friends being "out and about."

Philip is survived by his parents, David and Sharon Meyer of Mason City; sisters, Kimberly Platts of Hoffman Estates, Ill., and Susan Meyer of Clear Lake; nieces, Kari Platts of Ames and Melissa Piper of Clear Lake; nephew, Michael Piper of Clear Lake; aunts; uncles; great-aunts; great-uncles; cousins; and close friends, Bobby Kelley, Val Mujica and Phil Fountas.

FOREST CITY - Jeralyn K. Monk, 75, of Forest City and Monticello, died early Thursday morning (Feb. 16, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City due to complications from pneumonia and Parkinson's disease.

Memorial services will held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, 2006, at the Forest City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jerald Swanberg officiating.

Jeralyn is survived by her two children, Steve Monk and wife, Raeanne, of Forest City, Iowa, and her daughter, Melissa Muzzy and husband, Norman, of Cedar Falls, Iowa. Jeralyn was also blessed with five grandsons, Ryan Monk, Jacob and Adam Gatton, and Neal and Peter Muzzy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, and her husband, Lester, on Jan. 6, 2002.

Jeralyn was born June 19, 1930, the daughter of C. Eldon and Betty Lou (Partello) Price. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Des Moines in 1948 and from Drake University in 1951 with a two-year teacher's certificate. Jeralyn taught kindergarten at Postville (1951-52) and Monticello (1952-54), and then taught preschool-aged mentally and physically handicapped children from (1967-1975).

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Monticello.

FAIRMONT, Minn. - Services for Gerald D. Nielsen, 51, of Fairmont, Minn., will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont with burial in Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa.

Mr. Nielsen died Friday morning (Feb. 17, 2006) at his home in Fairmont.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at Lakeview Funeral Home in Fairmont.

Gerald Dean Nielsen was born Aug. 29, 1954, in Forest City, the son of Dale and Lois (Wonsmos) Nielsen. He was a 1972 graduate of Forest City High School and was united in marriage to Elise Oleson on June 25, 1977, at Lee, Ill. Two children, Travis and Ingrid, were born to this union.

Gerald was employed in the hog industry in Illinois and southern Minnesota for many years. He was united in marriage to Sue Goodell on March 10, 2005, in Sioux Falls, S.D. Gerald was employ-ed as a service representative by Han-Mar at the time of his death. He loved to play darts and was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved to show off his trophies.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Nielsen, of Fairmont, Minn; two children, Travis Nielsen of Fairmont and Ingrid Nielsen of Amboy, Minn.; one brother, Steven Nielsen and his wife, Amy, of Mason City; two sisters, Cathy Isebrand and her husband, Mike, of Ames, and Beth Moon of Forest City; four step-children, Erin Farland and her husband, Ryan, of Swea City, Mike Goodell of Faribault, Minn., Brent Goodell of Winona, Minn., and Chris Goodell of Fairmont, Minn.; two step-grandchildren, Kayla and Wyatt Farland of Swea City, Iowa; mother-in-law, Shirley Striemer of Fairmont; brother-in-law, Bruce Striemer of Ceylon, Minn.; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

BRITT - Bert J. Sankey, 77, of Britt, passed away Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Bert Sankey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Britt Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Bert Junior Sankey, the son of Bert and Clara (Warmbier) Sankey, was born on Aug. 14, 1928, in rural Kossuth County. He attended country schools and graduated from Algona High School. After graduation, Bert went to Coe College where he lettered in football.

In July of 1948, Bert enlisted in the Navy Air Corps and was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee.

On Dec. 28, 1948, he married Violet Hassebrock at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church. The couple was transferred to Alameda, Calif., until 1951 when Bert finished his hitch with the Navy.

They lived in Algona, Humboldt and Renwick while Bert worked at many implement dealerships. The couple moved to Britt in 1961, where Bert continued working at the implement dealership.

In the mid-1960s, Bert worked in Titonka with his brother-in-law at Schmidt Plumbing where he learned the trade.

He opened Sankey Plumbing and Heating in the late 1960s in Britt, later selling it to Chuck Conway.

Bert opened Sankey Oil in Britt in 1971, which he owned and operated until his retirement.

Bert took care of a lot of people throughout his life. Not only the customers he served, but also his wife Vi, who he loved very much, his children and grandchildren and his dog, Daisy. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and his pickup truck.

He was a member of the Masons and AmVets.

Bert is survived by his wife, Violet; two sons: Michael Sankey and his wife, Karen, of Algona, and William Sankey and his wife, Vicky, of Forest City; five grandchildren: Robert Sankey, Joshua Sankey and his wife, Diana, Jenna (Sankey) Gaskill and her husband, Scott, William Sankey and Jacob Sankey; and his sister, Lavon Lindhorst and her husband, Ralph, of Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Doris Rasmussen and Thelma Schmidt.

DUBUQUE - Father John P. Smith, 89, of Dubuque, died Saturday (Feb. 18, 2006) at Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Archbishop Jerome Hanus as Celebrant, priests of the Archdiocese as Concelebrants, Monsignor Walter Brunkan, Homilist, and Deacon Earl Weisenhorn assisting.

Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m at Visitation Catholic Church on Tuesday with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

Father Smith was born on Aug. 7, 1916, in Waterloo to Dr. John C. and Rose Mary (Hennigan) Smith. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Loras College in Dubuque, and studied theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

He was ordained in Dubuque on May 30, 1942, saying his first Mass at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.

He then became associate pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, in Elma. In February 1944 he was assigned as associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, and in July 1947, at Sacred Heart Parish in Dubuque. For a few months in 1951, Father Smith was an associate at St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, before receiving his first pastorate at St. Patrick's in Britt.

Father was then named pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina, in July 1957.

In August of 1960, he joined the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle to work in Bolivia. He returned to the Archdiocese in March of 1967 to become pastor of St. Joseph's in Rickardsville, and in 1968, Father Smith went back to Bolivia to serve at the Archdiocese's parish of San Raphael, Cochabamba. Father Smith was pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Williams, from June 1974 to December 1975, when he returned to Cochabamba due to the death of Father Hermann.

In July of 1978, he was named pastor of St. Ansgar's Parish, St. Ansgar, and then assumed pastor of Immaculate Conception, Wexford, and St. Ann-St. Joseph's Parish, Harper's Ferry, in July of 1985.

Father Smith retired in July of 1987, and lived in Cresco, helping parishes there, as well as assisting on weekends in other parishes in the area.

In 1998, he moved to Villa Raphael in Dubuque, and in February 2001, he moved to Stone Hill Care Center, where he resided until his death.

Father Smith enjoyed the outdoors and liked nothing better than hiking in the hills and along rivers and streams, playing the piano and singing. He enjoyed a good joke with a hearty laugh.

Father Smith is survived by two sisters: Germaine Gwynn of Niceville, Fla., and Virginia Roberts of Denver, Colo., and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Tara; and brother, Alfred Smith.

ST. ANSGAR - Harlan M. Sponheim, 76, of St. Ansgar, died Thursday (Feb. 16, 2006) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar.

Harlan Marshall Sponheim was born on Nov. 25, 1929, to Melvin and Alma (Evenson) Sponheim in Osage. He was baptized on Jan. 27, 1930, and confirmed on April 18, 1943, at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar. Harlan graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1947 and attended Iowa State University for one year.

Harlan married Dorothy Groth on Nov. 19, 1950, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, and to this union three children were born. Harlan served on church council, as a soil conservation commissioner and on the Osage Elevator Board. He will be remembered as a loving father and husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Harlan is survived by his wife, Dorothy, of St. Ansgar, children, Dennis (Bunita) Sponheim of St. Ansgar, Wayne (Anita) Sponheim of St. Ansgar and Dianne (Craig) Stange of Bismark, N.D.; seven grandchildren, Amy (Mike) Brandau, Terry Sponheim, Shawn, Drew and Kara Jo Sponheim, Kimberly and Christopher Stange; and one sister, Agnes (Vernon) Gordon of Northwood.

Elinor May Yankey, the daughter of Irvin and Cora (Miller) Chapman was born in Strawberry Point on May 9, 1915. She grew up in and attended school in Edgewood graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1932. She furthered her education having attended nursing school, earning her certificate, and becoming a registered nurse.'

On August 23, 1937 Elinor was united in marriage to Michael "Mike" Yankey in Albert Lea, Minn. She had been a homemaker throughout her life and lived in Mason City for the past 74 years. Elinor had been a member of the Mercy Nursing Alumni, El Kahir (Shriners' wives) the Wesley United Methodist Church, and the women's circle. She was devoted and very dedicated to her faith in her life.

During her leisure time, Elinor enjoyed baking, knitting, quilting, and needle-point. In later years she learned the task of felt art.

Elinor's paramount concern throughout her life was her family and was considered to be very family oriented. She enjoyed gardening and spending many hours caring for her lawn and completing other yardwork. She will be best remembered by her family as being a beautiful woman, who was very kind, soft and understanding. Elinor took great pride in being orderly, having an eye for detail and strived for perfection.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her seven children: Susan A. Eriksen of Kansas City, Kan., Mahria Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M., Rita (Alberto) Pishvaian of Frederick, Md., Michael U. (Becky) Yankovich of Tulsa, Okla., Jon R. (Barbara) Yankey of Dubuque, Liz (Mike) Austin of Mason City and Peter J. Yankovich of Houston, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-one great grandchildren.

Preceding Elinor in death are her parents; her husband, Michael "Mike" Yankey on June 23, 1993; her two brothers, Charles Chapman and Richard Chapman.

WEBSTER CITY - Mary Borchardt, 74, of Webster City, died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at the Kavanagh Hospice House in Des Moines.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Webster City with the Rev. John Flaherty, celebrant. Burial will be in the Bohemian Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Foster Funeral & Cremation Center, Webster City with a rosary to be recited at 6:45 p.m. followed by a scripture service to be held at 7 p.m.

Mary Elizabeth Molsberry was born on April 30, 1931, to Marcel and Mabel (Bosold) Molsberry of Plymouth. She graduated with a degree in food nutrition from St. Theresa's College in Winona, Minn., launching a life-long career as a registered dietician.

Mary married Richard Louis Borchardt on Nov. 28, 1953, in Plymouth. The couple lived and farmed in Rock Falls, moved to Osage in 1964, and then to Ames, where Mary worked at Mary Greeley Memorial Hospital while helping Richard complete college. The family moved to Perry, Hampton, Atlantic, and then Webster City.

Following her husband's death in 1991, Mary retired to Alexandria, Minn., where she spent eight years before returning to Webster City.

Mary was an avid golfer and loved to fish, treating her family to many happy vacations at her home in Minnesota. After retirement, she also liked to travel, visiting her children, spending a week on an Alaskan cruise, and taking trips to northern Minnesota and Wisconsin with her friends.

Mary was devoted to her family, rejoicing in all of their life victories, supporting their pursuits, and encouraging them during challenging times.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Richard; her parents; and sister, Ann Holmes. She is survived by her children; son, Raymond and daughter-in-law, Jill (Homa) Borchardt, of Brooklyn Park, Minn., daughters, Wanda Marshall, Norwalk, Cindy (Barry) Christensen of Littleton Colo., and Carla (Dwayne) Patschke, Lubbock, Texas; four grandchildren; Jamie and Michael Marshall, Sarah and Alan Patschke; one sister, Jeanne (Tom) Kelsh of Plainfield, Ill.; and one brother, John (Bonnie) Molsberry of Yakima; along with many nieces, nephews and in-laws.

Donations can be made in her name to Hospice of Central Iowa or the American Cancer Society.

MASON CITY - John F. "Jake" Burke, 81, of Mason City died Wednesday (Feb. 15, 2006) at The Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A memorial Mass will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Jon M. Seda officiating, where a flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by members of Mason City Veteran's Memorial Association.

Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa or the Humane Society of North Iowa.

John F. Burke was born Nov. 13, 1924, at Mason City, a son of Harry J. and Ida (Fox) Burke. He was united in marriage to Jacque J. Hurley on July 11, 1953, at Mason City.

Jake attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of St. Joseph Catholic High School in Mason City. He attended the University of Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

A stockbroker for many years, Jake retired from A.G. Edwards and Sons Inc. in 1994.

He is survived by his wife, Jacque Burke of Mason City; a son, Tom Burke and his wife, Peggy, of Des Moines; two daughters, Staci Burke and her husband, Phil Rawson, of Des Moines; Shawn Burke and her husband, Paul Scott, of Des Moines; five grandchildren, Colin Burke of Iowa City, Jake Burke, Caroline Scott, Meredith Scott and Burke Scott, all Des Moines.

His parents and three brothers, Bill, Robert and Tom, preceded him in death.

Margaretha L. Hogan was born September 1, 1921, at Hamburg, Iowa, a daughter of Emil and Josephine (Ellerson) Miller. She was united in marriage to Raymond C. Hogan on June 25, 1947 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Mason City.

She attended West Union Schools and was a graduate of West Union High School, West Union. Following their marriage, Ray and Margaretha made their home in Dougherty. For several years she worked in customer service at Sears & Roebuck, Mason City.

Margaretha enjoyed traveling, visiting her family, antiques and swapping recipes.

She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, American Legion-Auxiliary, and the Domestic Club, all in Dougherty.

Survivors include two daughters, Mary Catherine (Cathy) and her husband Jim, Aurora, Colo., and Laura Hogan, Sheffield; a grandson, Jared Arndt, Sheffield; two brothers, Robert (Loretta) Miller, Calif., Ken (Cheryl) Miller, Sisters, Ore.; a sister, Donna Ruth (Jack) Ulstad, Sisters, Ore.; two sisters-in-law, Mary Rose (John) Scanlon, Minnetonka, Minn. and Nancy Hogan, Fountain Hills, Ariz.; a brother-in-law, Marvin McKee, St. Paul, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

BUFFALO CENTER - Funeral services for Richard "Dick" Jensvold, 53, of Buffalo Center, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center, with Pastor Perry Aalgaard officiating. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the church and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday.

Richard Phillip Jensvold was born on Aug. 9, 1952, at the Buffalo Center Hospital. He was the youngest son of Sidney and Ethel (Nesheim) Jensvold. He was baptized and confirmed at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Buffalo Center and remained an active member all his life. Dick was currently serving on the church board.

Dick attended school at the Buffalo Center Community School, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1970.

After high schoo,l Dick worked for the family business, Jensvold Implement. Dick was currently employed at Ernie Williams LTD. in Buffalo Center.

On Feb. 14, 1987, Dick married his sweetheart, Debra Helmers. They made their home in Buffalo Center their entire married life.

Anyone who knew Dick loved him. He was one of the good guys. Dick was a dedicated husband, brother, uncle and son. He enjoyed the simple things in life like cruising in "Old Blue," listening to "oldies" or spending the day grinding potatoes for klub.

He served on the Buffalo Center Centennial committee and was a dedicated member of the Lions Club. Everyone was touched by his quick wit, sweet smile and genuine laugh.

Dick died unexpectedly on Saturday (Feb. 18, 2006) at the age of 53.

He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Deb, of Buffalo Center; his brothers: George and his wife, Donna, of Onamia, Minn.; Bill and his wife, Nancy, of Buffalo Center; Mark and his wife, Patricia, of Houston, Texas; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale and Bertha Helmers, of Titonka; his godmother, Lois Halverson, of Buffalo Center; his brother-in-law, Darryl Helmers and his wife, Susan, of Knoxville; his sisters-in-law, Shelly Harms and her husband, David, of Burt; Sheryl Nelson and her husband, Doug, of Britt; Lisa Dirksen and her husband, Allen, of Titonka; Janet Perkins and her husband, Mike, of Titonka; and many nieces and nephews.

Dick is preceded in death by his parents, Sidney and Ethel Jensvold; and his brother, Byrant Jensvold.

MASON CITY - The Rev. Albert J. Kleinsasser, 94, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave. died Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Baptist Church, 125 E. State St. with the Rev. Ron Stein officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and continue at the church one hour before the service.

Memorials may be given to the American Baptist International Missions.

The Rev. Kleinsasser was born on March 13, 1911, in Dinuba, Calif., the son of Andrew and Susanna (Stahl) Kleinsasser.

He was raised on a farm near Huron, S.D., where he would later teach rural school.

He attended high school in Yale, S.D., for two years then graduated from Freeman Academy, Freeman, S.D. The Rev. Kleinsasser furthered his education at Freeman Junior College, then graduated from John Fletcher College in Oskaloosa. He also attended the Bible Institute of Los Angeles in Los Angeles, Calif., and did graduate work at the American Baptist College in West Covina, Calif.

He married Helen A. Wiens on April 11, 1942 in Dinuba, Calif. Throughout his career, the Rev. Kleinsasser served churches in Alsen, N. D., Bonesteel and Fairfax, S. D., Ellendale, N.D., Watertown, S.D., Chino, Calif., Ft. Morgan, Colo., Superior and Guide Rock, Neb.

Following his retirement in 1976, the Rev. Kleinsasser and wife, Helen, moved to Bella Vista, Ark., where they helped establish and were charter members of the Judson American Baptist Church.

The Rev. Kleinsasser also served six churches in Nebraska in an interim capacity. The Kleinsassers moved to Mason City in 1993.

The Rev. Kleinsasser was a former member of the Cosmopolitan Club and Lions Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Noon Kiwanis Club, American Baptist Ministers Association and a past board member of the Friends of College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

He enjoyed fishing, golfing, gardening and attending as many of his grandchildren's athletic events as he could.

The Rev. Kleinsasser will be fondly remembered for his infectious laugh and wonderful stories of his life growing up in South Dakota.

He deeply loved his family and was deeply loved in return. His call to the ministry was one he honored until his death.

He is survived by his sons, Keith Kleinsasser and wife Gretchen of Cottage Grove, Minn., the Rev. Albert J. Kleinsasser Jr. and wife, Linda, of Woodbury, Minn.; daughter, Bonnie Peterson and husband, Douglas, of Mason City; grandchildren, Zachary Kleinsasser, Heidi Cole and husband, Nathan, Joel and Allison Kleinsasser, Michael Peterson and wife, Kendra, Dustin and Noelle Peterson; four step-grandchildren, Katy Dieffenbach, Andrea Emde and husband Brian, Benjamin and Alicia Dieffenbach; sister-in-law, Lydia Kleinsasser of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Helen; son, John Mark Kleinsasser in 1957; two brothers, Andrew and the Rev. Zach Kleinsasser; two sisters, Susie and Adena.

BELMOND - Jessie Eleanor Archerd Mechem, age 99, of Belmond, passed away Saturday (Feb. 18, 2006) at the Belmond Health Care Center.

Memorial services for Jessie Mechem will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Mike Druhl will officiate. A private family inurnment will take place at the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion.

There will be a short visitation before the service at the church.

The family requests memorials be directed toward Easter Seals and/or Salvation Army.

Jessie Mechem, the daughter of Leslie and Lucie Merrington Warnes Archerd, was born on Feb. 16, 1907, in Eagle Grove. She grew up in Clarion and graduated from High School in 1923. Jessie attended Cornell for three years and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1927. She worked as Secretary for the Clarion superintendent of schools and taught piano before being married to John Ross Mechem on Jan. 1, 1931.

The couple farmed near Clarion until 1966, when they moved to Emmetsburg. She served until 1979 as a member of the Iowa Health and Welfare Department. Ross passed away in 1974. Jessie moved to Belmond in 1983.

She enjoyed her expansive family, gardening and music. Jessie played the piano throughout her life to the delight of all who heard her. She was gifted. Jessie was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church, 50-year member of P.E.O. and the Eastern Star, and belonged to Navy Mothers and Grandmothers Club.

She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Griffin, of Waxahachie, Texas; two sons, Leslie and wife, Constance, of Berthoud, Colo., and Frank and wife, Mary, of Clarion; fifteen grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a sister-like cousin, Florence Michaelsen, of Goleta, Calif.

Jessie was preceeded in death by her parents; husband, Ross; daughter, Florence Noelck, and her husband William; sister, Elizabeth Woodin, and her husband, Dick; two granddaughters, Sarah and Megan Mechem.

BRITT - Bert J. Sankey, 77, of Britt, passed away Friday (Feb. 17, 2006) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Funeral services for Bert Sankey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Britt Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Britt.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Britt and will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Bert Junior Sankey, the son of Bert and Clara (Warmbier) Sankey, was born on Aug. 14, 1928, in rural Kossuth County. He attended country schools and graduated from Algona High School. After graduation, Bert went to Coe College where he lettered in football.

In July of 1948, Bert enlisted in the Navy Air Corps and was stationed in Memphis, Tennessee.

On Dec. 28, 1948, he married Violet Hassebrock at the Kamrar Presbyterian Church. The couple was transferred to Alameda, Calif., until 1951 when Bert finished his hitch with the Navy.

They lived in Algona, Humboldt and Renwick while Bert worked at many implement dealerships. The couple moved to Britt in 1961, where Bert continued working at the implement dealership.

In the mid-1960s, Bert worked in Titonka with his brother-in-law at Schmidt Plumbing where he learned the trade.

He opened Sankey Plumbing and Heating in the late 1960s in Britt, later selling it to Chuck Conway.

Bert opened Sankey Oil in Britt in 1971, which he owned and operated until his retirement.

Bert took care of a lot of people throughout his life. Not only the customers he served, but also his wife Vi, who he loved very much, his children and grandchildren and his dog, Daisy. He also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, and his pickup truck.

He was a member of the Masons and AmVets.

Bert is survived by his wife, Violet; two sons: Michael Sankey and his wife, Karen, of Algona, and William Sankey and his wife, Vicky, of Forest City; five grandchildren: Robert Sankey, Joshua Sankey and his wife, Diana, Jenna (Sankey) Gaskill and her husband, Scott, William Sankey and Jacob Sankey; and his sister, Lavon Lindhorst and her husband, Ralph, of Algona.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters: Doris Rasmussen and Thelma Schmidt.

DUBUQUE - Father John P. Smith, 89, of Dubuque, died Saturday (Feb. 18, 2006) at Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Archbishop Jerome Hanus as Celebrant, priests of the Archdiocese as Concelebrants, Monsignor Walter Brunkan, Homilist, and Deacon Earl Weisenhorn assisting.

Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery.

Friends may call from 5 to 7:30 p.m at Visitation Catholic Church on Tuesday with a Scripture Service at 7 p.m.

Father Smith was born on Aug. 7, 1916, in Waterloo to Dr. John C. and Rose Mary (Hennigan) Smith. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, Loras College in Dubuque, and studied theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C.

He was ordained in Dubuque on May 30, 1942, saying his first Mass at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville.

He then became associate pastor of Immaculate Conception Parish, in Elma. In February 1944 he was assigned as associate pastor of St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville, and in July 1947, at Sacred Heart Parish in Dubuque. For a few months in 1951, Father Smith was an associate at St. Boniface Parish in New Vienna, before receiving his first pastorate at St. Patrick's in Britt.

Father was then named pastor of Our Lady of Seven Dolors in Festina, in July 1957.

In August of 1960, he joined the Missionary Society of St. James the Apostle to work in Bolivia. He returned to the Archdiocese in March of 1967 to become pastor of St. Joseph's in Rickardsville, and in 1968, Father Smith went back to Bolivia to serve at the Archdiocese's parish of San Raphael, Cochabamba. Father Smith was pastor of St. Mary's Parish in Williams, from June 1974 to December 1975, when he returned to Cochabamba due to the death of Father Hermann.

In July of 1978, he was named pastor of St. Ansgar's Parish, St. Ansgar, and then assumed pastor of Immaculate Conception, Wexford, and St. Ann-St. Joseph's Parish, Harper's Ferry, in July of 1985.

Father Smith retired in July of 1987, and lived in Cresco, helping parishes there, as well as assisting on weekends in other parishes in the area.

In 1998, he moved to Villa Raphael in Dubuque, and in February 2001, he moved to Stone Hill Care Center, where he resided until his death.

Father Smith enjoyed the outdoors and liked nothing better than hiking in the hills and along rivers and streams, playing the piano and singing. He enjoyed a good joke with a hearty laugh.

Father Smith is survived by two sisters: Germaine Gwynn of Niceville, Fla., and Virginia Roberts of Denver, Colo., and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Tara; and brother, Alfred Smith.

Funeral services for Vicki Weiss will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Kanawha Lutheran Church with Janelle Siffring, AiM officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery near Kanawha.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Ewing Dugger Funeral Home, 118 E. Second St. in Kanawha and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Charles City - Edward Wubbens, 79, of Charles City, died Sunday (Feb. 19, 2006) at the Salsbury Baptist Home in Charles City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Charles City. Monsignor Stanley Hayek and the Reverend Carl Ries will celebrate the Mass. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Calvary Cemetery at Elma. There will be a flag presentation by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home in Charles City, where the Vigil Scriptural Wake Service will be held a 6:30 p.m. followed by the rosary, which will be led by the Knights of Columbus. Visitation will continue Wednesday at the church an hour prior to the service.

MASON CITY - Elinor M. Yankey, 90, of 302 14th Street S.E., in Mason City, died early Saturday morning (Feb. 18, 2006) at her home with family at her side.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 South Pennsylvania Avenue in Mason City with the Rev. Bill Poland and the Rev. Keith Scott officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.

The family will greet relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second Street S.E. in Mason City. The visitation will continue one hour prior to Elinor's service Tuesday at the church.

Elinor May Yankey, the daughter of Irvin and Cora (Miller) Chapman was born in Strawberry Point on May 9, 1915. She grew up in and attended school in Edgewood graduating as valedictorian of her class in 1932. She furthered her education having attended nursing school, earning her certificate, and becoming a registered nurse.'

On August 23, 1937 Elinor was united in marriage to Michael "Mike" Yankey in Albert Lea, Minn. She had been a homemaker throughout her life and lived in Mason City for the past 74 years. Elinor had been a member of the Mercy Nursing Alumni, El Kahir (Shriners' wives) the Wesley United Methodist Church, and the women's circle. She was devoted and very dedicated to her faith in her life.

During her leisure time, Elinor enjoyed baking, knitting, quilting, and needle-point. In later years she learned the task of felt art.

Elinor's paramount concern throughout her life was her family and was considered to be very family oriented. She enjoyed gardening and spending many hours caring for her lawn and completing other yardwork. She will be best remembered by her family as being a beautiful woman, who was very kind, soft and understanding. Elinor took great pride in being orderly, having an eye for detail and strived for perfection.

Grateful for having had the privilege of sharing in her life are her seven children: Susan A. Eriksen of Kansas City, Kan., Mahria Thompson of Albuquerque, N.M., Rita (Alberto) Pishvaian of Frederick, Md., Michael U. (Becky) Yankovich of Tulsa, Okla., Jon R. (Barbara) Yankey of Dubuque, Liz (Mike) Austin of Mason City and Peter J. Yankovich of Houston, Texas; twenty-three grandchildren; and thirty-one great grandchildren.

Preceding Elinor in death are her parents; her husband, Michael "Mike" Yankey on June 23, 1993; her two brothers, Charles Chapman and Richard Chapman.
