Louise May Loth

BELMOND — Louise May Loth, 94, of Belmond was called home to Heaven on Sunday (Nov. 27, 2005). She died peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 304 Third Ave. N.E. in Belmond, with the Rev. Rod Hopp officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S. E. in Belmond, and continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

Memorials may be given to Wright County Hospice or the donor’s choice.

Louise was born on Nov. 17, 1911, to Charles and Mary (Pabbeldt) Haupt on a farm southeast of Belmond, which had been homesteaded by her grandfather, August Haupt, in 1875. She attended country schools, graduated from Belmond High School, and then went on to Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls. She was active in Kappa Alpha Beta Sororiety. She taught grades one through eight in a one-room country school near Kanawha.

She met the love of her life, Louis Loth, at a dance in 1936. Both were quick to say that it was “love at first sight” and they were inseparable for 66 years until his death in 2002. Louise was the consumate “farmer’s wife.” As newlyweds, they worked as farmhands for Nels Anderson near Clear Lake in order to save money for the machinery they would need.

Together, Louie and Louise farmed the land that she was born and raised on, moving there in 1940, and raised two daughters, Mary Lou and Karen. The family loved to listen to stories of early farm life and were in awe of the hardships they endured in order to raise a family on the land she loved so. One of her proudest moments was when the farm was named a “Century Farm” in August of 1995.

After retiring from farming in 1967, Louie and Louise loved to travel and went on numerous fishing trips to Minnesota and Canada, and wintered for many years in Avon Park, Florida. They eventually moved into town in 1992.

Louise loved a good game of “Hearts,” fishing, shopping, gardening, reading, and especially mowing lawn. She had a life long passion for horses. Her ultimate joy in later years was spending time with her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and was always ready to go on any adventure they planned. She was adored by all.
