AMES — Elaine Arlene Zuehlke, 80, of Ames, died Sunday (June 19, 2005) at The Evangelical Free Church Home in Boone.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gallilean Lutheran Church in Clear Lake, with Julie Zuehlke officiating.

Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Mason City Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

Elaine was born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Mason City to Henry and Hilda Wearda.

She was united in marriage to Erwin Zuehlke on Feb. 7, 1943, in Mason City.

Her hobbies included family and friends, fishing in Canada and playing bridge.

She was an Avon sales representative for 12 years and also co-owner of Lake Realty in Clear Lake.

She moved to Ames in November of 2001 from Clear Lake.

She is survived by two daughters, Pam (John) Maurer, of Ames and Jan (Paul) Lande, of Huxley; one son, Terry (Julie) Zuehlke, of Golden Valley, Minn.; eight grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband in December of 2001; one son; one daughter; one son-in-law; and one granddaughter.

Harold E. Menning


HAMPTON — Harold E. Menning, 79, of Hampton, died Monday (June 20, 2005) at Franklin General Hospital in Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton, with the Rev. Jerry Miller officiating. Burial will be at later date in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home in Hampton.

Harold E. Menning was born on Nov. 10, 1925, in Hampton, son of John F. and Carla (Stayner) Menning.

He graduated from Hampton High School and attended the Iowa State University in Ames.

He served his country during World War II and later retired from the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was united in marriage to Donna Boyenga on July 29, 1952, in Hampton.

He retired as a mail carrier and he hobby-farmed during his retirement.

He was a member of the Hampton United Methodist Church in Hampton.

He was a certified high school umpire, and enjoyed coaching and umpiring baseball games. Harold also enjoyed farming, bowling, watching Iowa State wrestling, and attending his grandchildren's events.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Menning, of Hampton; Hampton; son, Kreg and wife Angela Menning, of Hampton, and children, Ryan, Drew, and Brenna; and son, Kevin Menning, of Claremore, Okla.; and children, Melissa and Nicholas.

He was preceded in death by parents, one brother and one sister.

Leo W. Barkema


BELMOND — Leo W. Barkema, 83, of Belmond, died Saturday (June 18, 2005) at the Belmond Care Center. A graveside memorial service will be held at a later date in the Amsterdam Cemetery in Goodell.

 Leo was born on June 27, 1921, the son of Hauko Barkema and Grace (Lieuwen) Barkema in rural Goodell. He attended school in Goodell and served his country in the United States Army achieving the rank of corporal.

Leo was united in marriage to Noreen McMahon on Nov. 21, 1942 in Belmond. They moved to Mason City in 1961. Leo worked for the Iowa Department of Transportation for 36 years in the maintenance department. He traveled extensively and made many trips to Northern Minnesota to fish. He also enjoyed golfing, and even got a hole-in-one.

 Leo is survived by his wife, Noreen Barkema, of Belmond; brothers, Harvey Barkema and wife, Irene, of Forest City, and Mervin Barkema and wife, Irene, of Klemme; sisters, Marvel Statdlander, of Sheffield and Jean Ostendorf of Klemme. Leo is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Theodore and Leland.

IOWA FALLS — Donald Lowther, 64, of Iowa Falls, died Monday (June 20, 2005) at his home in Iowa Falls.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Linn's Funeral Chapel in Iowa Falls, with military honors provided by the Hyman-Peavey American Legion Post No. 188, Iowa Falls. Burial will be at the Fairhaven Memorial Park Cemetery, Santa Ana, Calif.

Norman P. ‘Bud' Leinenkugel

NEW HAVEN — Norman P. "Bud" Leinenkugel, 90, of New Haven, Iowa, was called home to the Lord on Monday (June 20, 2005) at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa, surrounded by his loved ones.

Bud was born Aug. 11, 1914, in Sauk City, Wis., the son of Paul and Amelia "Molly" (Jahnel) Leinenkugel. He was raised in Sauk City, and after high school attended the University of Wisconsin. He joined the U.S. Army during World War II in officer training, and served as a lieutenant, using his fluent German in work with the German POWs.

After the war, he worked briefly in Chicago, where he became an avid Chicago White Sox fan. Bud moved to New Haven in 1945, and purchased New Haven Hardware from Leo Lockwood. He met Mary Jane Fox on a blind date, and they were married on Nov. 25, 1948, at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven.

Bud and Mary Jane ran the New Haven Hardware for more than 50 years until Bud's retirement at age 84. They raised eight children in New Haven, and had 55 years together as members of St. Peter's Parish before Mary Jane's death in 2004, after which Bud moved to the Des Moines area. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and watching sporting events.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter's Catholic Church in New Haven with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Burial will be in St. Peter's Catholic Cemetery in New Haven with a flag presentation by Osage American Legion Post 278.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, where there will be a rosary at 7:30 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services on Friday at the church.

Bud is survived by his children: Joseph Leinenkugel of Des Moines; Mary Anne Leinenkugel of Osage; John Leinenkugel (Kathy) of Omaha, Neb., and son, John Lubbers of Prescott, Ariz.; Therese Rolfes (Tim) of Johnston and children Rachel and Grant; Rose Hagemann (Tom) of Ankeny and children David and Annie; Paul Leinenkugel (Cindi) of Hemet, Calif., and children Amber, Lindsey and Garrett Darnell; and James Leinenkugel of Clive, as well as Bud's cousin, Louella Cork of Sauk City, Wis., and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary Jane, in 2004; a son, Thomas, in 1976; and a sister, Florence Rothman, in 1989.

MASON CITY — Harold R. Prindle, 91, of 501 S. Kentucky Ave., died Monday (June 20, 2005) at the Heritage Care Center.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Jo Frahm Watkins of First United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Harold was born Aug. 23, 1913, in Union, Iowa, the son of Lester and Anna (Gough) Prindle. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands.

Harold married Fern Neumann on Sept. 20, 1947, in Mason City. Harold worked for Armour Co. for many years, retiring in 1979.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Moose Lodge and a lifetime member of the VFW and the Military Order of the Cootie.

He enjoyed fishing, reading and gardening.

Harold is survived by a son, Jim Prindle and wife, Kathleen, of Mason City; daughter, Judy Robinson and husband, Duane, of Anchorage, Alaska; grandchildren, Joanna Livingston, Robert Prindle, Lisa Meyers and Jennifer Trappe; eight great- grandchildren; brother, Don Prindle and wife, Nellie, of Mason City; several nieces and nephews.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Fern; and sisters, Geraldine Peterson and Irma Shugar.

CLEAR LAKE — Lois Alvina Smidt, 85, of Oakwood Care Center in Clear Lake, Iowa, died Tuesday (June 21, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Dave Wiersbe officiating. Interment will be in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Friday at the church.

The family suggests memorials to Evangelical Free Church.

Lois was born March 10, 1920, in rural Thompson, Iowa, the daughter of Ezra and Fern (Dingman) Smidt. She lived at home with her parents until her mother died and she has spent her remaining years at Duncan Heights, Concord Care Center, Opportunity Village and Oakwood Care Center.

Lois enjoyed her visits with her family, friends, her pastor and listening to Rod Carlson sing. She will always be known for her beautiful smile. She was a member of Evangelical Free Church in Clear Lake.

Lois is survived by her sister, Ruth B. Ouverson, of Fertile; brother, Donald Smidt and his wife, Marvel, of Forest City; and a sister, Darlene Holecek and her husband, Glen, of Centuria, Wis.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother-in-law, Harold "Moke" Ouverson; and an infant sister.

Gilbert E. Mills

PLYMOUTH — Gilbert E. Mills, 63, of Plymouth died Monday (June 20, 2005) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church, 508 Carter St., Plymouth, with the Rev. Wendy Johannesen officiating. Following the visitation, cremation will take place with inurnment in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., Manly.

Visitation will also be one hour prior to service time on Thursday at the church.

Gilbert E. Mills was born on March 17, 1942, in Novinger, Mo., the son of Cleo and Daisy (VanHoose) Mills. He attended and received his education in the Novinger, Mo., school system.

Gilbert began working for the Pre-Stress Concrete Co. in Des Moines in 1962, and worked there until 1973 when he began working as a counter salesman for Standard Bearing Co. in Des Moines. He was transferred to Mason City in 1979, and worked for Standard Bearing until 1984. Gilbert also worked for Precision Industry in Mason City, as a counter salesman and operations manager until his retirement in 2003.

He was united in marriage to Laurie Whitehurst on June 5, 1982, in Ventura, Iowa.

Gilbert enjoyed fishing, photography, woodworking and grilling, but his great love and enjoyment were his family and grandchildren.

He was a Baptist by faith, and was a Cub Scout Master for Pack 420 in Plymouth.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Laurie Mills of Plymouth; his children, Jerry Mills of Hannibal, Mo., Gayla Gauke and Janet Pederson of Iowa Falls, Josh, Jake and Makayla Mills, all of Plymouth; six grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; five brothers, Jack Mills and his wife, Hazel, of Atlanta, Mo., Larry Mills and his wife, Carol, of Drums, Pa., Denny Mills and his wife, Dee, of Huntington, Ind., Frank Mills and his wife, Nancy, of Atlanta, Mo., and Randy Mills and his wife, Garla, of Novinger, Mo.; one sister; Norma VanZee and her husband, Michael, of Des Moines; many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and many friends.

His parents and an infant son, Steven Mills, preceded him in death.

MASON CITY — James M. Jarvill, 72, of 1140 W. State St., died Monday (June 20, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 201 Willowbrook Drive, with the Rev. Terry Hamilton-Poore officiating. Inurnment will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

James M. Jarvill was born June 2, 1933, the son of Ernest R. and Edith (Mather) Jarvill in Laurens, Iowa. He attended high school in Laurens and graduated in 1952. He married Geraldine A. Albers in Buffalo Center on Oct. 9, 1955.

Jim was drafted into the United States Army in November 1955 and served in the Korean War until his discharge in 1957. He then moved to Mason City in 1957, where he worked for the Esselte Pendaflex Corp., Hedrick Bros., and the Klipto Corp.

Jim enjoyed collecting golf balls, working with the youth hockey association and working on craft projects.

He was a member of the Sertoma Club, Mason City Youth Hockey Association, Jaycees, and the Architectural Board of The Wells, in Mesa, Ariz. He was also a longtime member the First Presbyterian Church.

Jim is survived by his children, daughter, Janna and her husband, Bruce, Wuttke of Mason City; sons, David and wife, Katie, Jarvill of Charles City, and Thomas Jarvill of Mason City; grandchildren, Andrew and Amanda Wuttke, Keely, Sam and Will Jarvill; sister, Donah Thede of Gladbrook, Iowa; and special friend, Barbara Lewis, of Mesa, Ariz.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Geraldine; and brother, Larry Jarvill.

Dewie H. Schultz Gibbs

GARNER — Dewie H. Gibbs, 86, of Garner died Tuesday (June 21, 2005)  at Concord Care Center in Garner.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. David Wagner officiating. Burial will be in Concord Township Cemetery in Garner.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Cataldo Funeral Chapel,    160 E. Fourth St. in Garner, and one hour prior to services on Friday at the church.

Dewie Harriet Schultz Gibbs, the daughter of Halvor and Josephine (Beckjordan) Halvorson, was born Nov. 13, 1918 at Leland. She was baptized and confirmed at Winnebago Lutheran Church northeast of Leland. Dewie attended the rural schools near Leland. When she was six years old, her father died and she and her siblings helped her mother on the farm.

On Jan. 7, 1939, she was married to Joe Virgil Schultz at the Methodist parsonage in Klemme. They lived in Forest City until 1948, when they moved to Garner where she did some babysitting and worked at several cafes in town. She also worked for the Garner-Hayfield school district in the lunch program and later at Concord Care Center until she retired at the age of 67. On Dec. 31,1990, her husband, Joe, passed away.

On April 9, 1994, she was married to Asa Gibbs at the United Methodist Church in Garner. In August 2004, they moved to Cardinal Grove Assisted Living in Garner. The past few months Dewie had resided at the Concord Care Center.

She enjoyed her family, gardening, playing cards, working puzzles, reading, fishing, and going to garage sales.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church and UMW-Ruth Circle.

Dewie is survived by her husband, Asa, of Garner; children, Judy Wetterling and fiance, Ray Ryerson, of Garner, Susan Strange and husband, John, of Azle, Texas, and Tom Schultz and wife, Julia, of Garner; a stepson, Joe Gibbs and wife, Kathy, of Garner; grandchildren, Jim Wetterling of Garner, Debra (Brian) Morel of Watagua, Texas, Kim Gibson of Fort Worth, Texas, Ron (Ellen) Wetterling of Parker, Colo., Tracy (Justin) Klimisch of Galveston, Texas, Angie (Scott) VanDusseldorp of Garner, Joe Schultz of Garner, Tara Schultz of Garner, Heather Ross of Azle, Texas, and Marisa Gibson of Azle, Texas; stepgrandchildren, Pam Hrubes of Chanhassen, Minn., Dan (Carol) Hrubes of Ankeny, Melissa (Bob) Oborny of Ankeny, and Joe Gibbs Jr. of Mason City; 10 great-grandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister, Pearl Peters, of Forest City; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Joe, on Dec. 31, 1990;    her parents; son, Gary, on Nov. 19, 1976; sisters, Lillian, Bella, Amy and Florence; and a brother, Menford.

MASON CITY — Alberta M. Rheingans, 73, of Mason City died Tuesday (June 21, 2005) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Alberta was born April 17, 1932, in Mason City, the daughter of Uel Berton and Dorothy (Sells) Howe in Mason City. She attended school in Mason City and graduated from Mason City High School.

Alberta was united in marriage to William Edward Rheingans on March 22, 1951, in Mason City. She worked as a nurse's aide for many years at the hospital in Mason City.

Alberta was a lifelong resident of Mason City and was a member of Faith Baptist Church.

She enjoyed singing, puzzles and crocheting afghans for her family. Alberta's pride and joy was her family and she loved to help care for her grandchildren. She was also known as the "cookie lady" in Belmond.

Survivors include children, Roger Rheingans and wife, Nancy, of Kasson, Minn., Susan Buehler and husband, John, of Mason City, Jody Gobeli and husband, James, of Belmond, Kathy Martin and husband, Kim, of Mason City, and James Rheingans and wife, Ann, of Forest City; grandchildren, Daniel Rheingans of Chariton, Sarah Mason and husband, Talley, of Rochester, Minn., Tina Miller and husband, Scott, of Mason City, Holly Buehler of Mason City, Lance Gobeli and wife, Tammy, of Belmond, Jennifer Gobeli, also of Belmond, William Martin of Mason City, Katherine and Jennifer Martin, both of Spanaway, Wash., and Steven Blau and Cordell Rheingans, both of Forest City. MASON CITY — Marcele LaVon Dahlstrom, 81, of 706 Sixth St. N.W.,     died Tuesday (June 21, 2005)   at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit     in Mason City.

A private inurnment service will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation or memorial service.

Memorials may be directed to the bird aviary at Good Shepherd Care Center, Mason City, or the Humane Society.

Marcele was born Dec. 5, 1923, in rural Hancock County, the daughter of Nels and Emma (Ebert) Back. She graduated from Goodell High School in 1940 and Hamilton Business College in 1941.

Marcele was united in marriage to Francis Dahlstrom on Oct. 11, 1942, in Mason City; to this union two children were born. Marcele and Francis shared 51 years of marriage and 54 birthdays together because they both shared December 5th birthdays.

Marcele worked at her hometown bank of Goodell State Savings Bank while Francis served in World War II. She retired from the Globe Gazette accounting department on May 1,1987.

Marcele was an avid Hallmark ornament collector and lover of the many cats who owned her, but her greatest pride was her family and her biggest joy was her grandson, Sean.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Dahlstrom, of Mason City, and Celane and her husband, Mark Vasey, of West Des Moines; and her grandson, Sean Vasey, of West Des Moines.

She is preceded in death by her mother in 1952, her father 1968, and her husband in 1994.

Robert C. Helgeland


NORTHWOOD — Robert C. Helgeland, 98, of Northwood died Monday (June 20, 2005) at his home in Northwood.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood with the Rev. Barbara Wills officiating. Burial will be at South Shell Rock Cemetery in Northwood. Military honors will be conducted by VFW Post No. 6779 Our Buddies Memorial.

Robert was born on Sept. 28, 1906, to Andrew S. and Ingaborg (Nelson) Helgeland on the family farm west of Northwood. Bob attended country grade school and graduated from Northwood High School in 1927.

After graduation, he was employed in several paving and construction jobs. He attended various trade schools studying aircraft and auto mechanics. Bob was employed as an auto mechanic at the Ford Garage in Northwood until World War II.

Bob entered the U.S. Army Air Corps, where he was trained as an aircraft instrument technician, attaining the rank of tech sargent. Later in the war, he was stationed on Saipan, where he was responsible for maintaining and calibrating the Norden bombsights installed in the B-29 bombers which bombed Japan.

Following his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to the Ford Garage in Northwood. Bob then enrolled in watchmaker school after which he joined L.T. Dillon Watchmaking Jewelry business in Northwood. Upon L.T. Dillon's retirement, Bob continued the business in Northwood until his own retirement. Included with this business was the calibration and maintenance of the big clock on Main Street, which was brought to Northwood by L.T. Dillon. It should be noted that Bob got up to change the clock's time at precisely the specified daylight saving time of 2 a.m.

Bob was a lifetime member of First Lutheran Church and served on the Church Council for six years. He was also the bell ringer until halted by physical limitations. Bob enjoyed driving country roads in Worth and adjoining counties daily, noting points and activities of interest, such as new construction, country churches and farming. He also enjoyed fixing and repairing small problems in and about his home.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Sander and wife, Annette, and Elmer; two sisters: Rossela and Viola Torgerson and husband, Alfred; and brother-in-law, Cy Bogue.

He is survived by a sister, Gladys Bogue of Manly; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Helgeland of Lake Mills.

CRYSTAL LAKE — Tammy Lynn (Heller) Fallon, 41, of Sweaberg, Neb., and formerly of Crystal Lake, died on Wednesday (June 22, 2005) as the result of a motorcycle accident.

Funeral services for Tammy Fallon will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel in Britt with Janelle Siffring, AiM, officiating.

Tammy was born on Dec. 18, 1963, the youngest of six children, to Kenneth Heller and Lois (Jennings) Thomas in Osage, Iowa. She attended grade school at Lincoln Elementary in Osage.

In 1973, she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, with her mother, Lois, and step-father, Charles Thomas. She continued her schooling at Lincoln High School in Des Moines

She was married to Kirk Welch of Des Moines and was blessed with a special daughter, Courtney Welch and an awesome son, Charles Welch. She was so proud of the accomplishments of her children and told everyone about them.

She worked in the Britt area for Armour and Con-Agra and later moved to the Nebraska area. She held various jobs in her lifetime and loved working with people wherever she went.

Tammy never knew a stranger; she was a friend to all that she met and had such a big heart. She would do anything for anyone even without being asked. Some of her most special times were spent with her family at the holidays, especially the Christmases together.

She was known for her cooking, her love of animals, riding motorcycles, singing and kids. She had many children that called her Mom and Aunt Tammy, for which she had so much joy sharing in their lives. She will be missed by all the friends she has made over her lifetime, but especially by her children and family.

She is survived by her children: Courtney Welch, Clear Lake, and Charles (Chuck) Welch, Crystal Lake; her mother, Lois Thomas, Crystal Lake, one brother, Ken (Rebecca) Heller, Tallahassee, Fla., and three sisters: Cindy (Duane) Caroon, Hibbing, Minn., Anne (Greg) Brandt, Woden, and Sandy (Matt) Wiesen, Raleigh, N.C., and her special friend, Charles Fallon, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her step-father, Charles Thomas; her father, Kenneth Heller; and an infant sister, Patty Heller.

WEST DES MOINES — Robert Schulte, 76, died Wednesday (June 22, 2005) at home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines, with the Rev. Arno Melz officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City.

A time of fellowship with the family will be held at the 4th Street Diner in Mason City, following the services at the cemetery.

Robert was born April 30, 1929, in Hanlontown, the son of Sylverne (Helland) and Willard Schulte.  He graduated from Hanlontown High School and attended Luther College in Decorah. He served in Company F, 110th Infantry during the Korean War. Upon his return he began his career with Northwestern Bell, retiring from there in 1986.

He married Betty Stinehart on Oct. 4, 1953, in Mason City. To that union, five children were added.

Robert was a charter member of the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in West Des Moines, where he was an active member.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; sister, Helen Thoen and her husband, David, of Manly; his daughter, Rebecca Blackburn and her husband, Harry, of Clive; four sons, Paul Schulte of West Des Moines, Richard Schulte and his wife, Kari, of West Des Moines, Dr. Douglas Schulte and his wife, Katie, of West Des Moines, Ronald Schulte and his wife, Rochelle, of Urbandale; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as other relatives and friends.

Marjorie Evans

MASON CITY — Marjorie Evans of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Mason City, passed away on May 31, 2005.

Born Marjorie Jane Howard, of Ames, her parents were Mary Elizabeth (Kintzley) and Alva Lybarger Howard. She was raised in Ames and Sioux City, Iowa. In 1936, she graduated from Sioux City Central High School, where she was valedictorian of her class, editor of the yearbook, and active in many clubs. In 1940, she graduated from Iowa State University, where she studied dietetics, and was a member of Pi Beta Phi.

In March of that year, she married her great love, John William Evans of Fort Dodge, Iowa, and went on to proudly spend the next 58 years as John's best friend, helpmate, dancing partner, traveling companion, and mother of his children. Until the end of his life in 1998, John's greatest happiness was to come home from work to be with Marjorie.

Between 1940 and 1958, Marjorie and John lived in Webster City, Iowa, where their four daughters were born. In 1958, the family move to Mason City, Iowa, where Marjorie continued to live until 2001. The family spent their summers in Clear Lake, Iowa, from 1950 until the mid-1980's. In their later years, John and Marjorie enjoyed spending a part of the winter at their home in Tucson, Ariz.

Marjorie was active in many of Mason City's clubs and philanthropic organizations, including the Red Cross, Mason City Public Library, Crippled Children's, the MacNider Art Museum, the YWCA, PEO, and the Mason City Women's Club. She met women of like interests and dedication through these groups and leaves behind many, many wonderful friends. In her last years, she took great pleasure in the wildlife outside of her Arizona home.

Marjorie is survived by four daughters: Mary Provost (Alain) of Tucson, Nancy Evans of Tucson, Katherine Evans of San Antonio, Texas, and Elizabeth Evans (Steve Reitz) of Tucson. Marjorie is also survived by five grandchildren: Jesse Evans-Schroeder of Tucson, Tony Aguasvivas of San Antonio, Texas, Ashley O'dell, Max Provost of Tucson, and Nora Evans-Reitz of Tucson. Her daughters, grandchildren, and sons-in-law were very grateful to have Marjorie in Tucson during her last years. They will miss Marjorie's presence in their lives and carry her memory forward with them forever.

Pearl was born June 23, 1905, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Mary Ann (Ambs) Scherping. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1923. Pearl married William R. "Jack" Fisher on June 21, 1928 in Boone. Pearl worked as a registered nurse, graduating in 1926 from St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She worked as an RN in Mason City for 50 years.

She was the city nurse of Mason City, worked at Park Hospital and at age 61 attend-ed the University of Iowa to further her education to assist in opening the cardiac care unit at Park Hospital. She also worked for Dr. Sartor as his office nurse.

Pearl was the oldest living graduate of the St. Joseph Mercy School of Nursing. She attended the annual reunions well into her 90s. Pearl was a member for many years of the 10th District Nurses Association and a former long time member of the Queen Rebekah Lodge.

The center of Pearl's life was her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pearl enjoyed traveling to many places in the world, spending time at her cottage in Clear Lake and the years of doing many different things with her two sisters.

Crocheting and knitting were other leisure activities she enjoyed. Pearl was  a member of Grace United Methodist Church and had attended church there most of her life.

Pearl is survived by a son, Jack Fisher and wife, Mary Jo, of Mason City; grandchildren, William Fisher and wife, Ann, of Mason City, Kathy Alscher and husband, Phillip, of Mason City, and Robert Fisher of Mason City; great-grandchildren, Ross Fisher, Brian Fisher, David Alscher and Sara Alscher, all of Mason City; a sister, June Stone, of German Valley, Ill.; and many nieces and nephews.

Pearl was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jack, in 1950; and sister, Florence Hansen.

Lillian was born on July 11, 1926, to John and Gladys (Plantz) Smit in Kanawha, Iowa. She grew up in Kanawha and later moved to Crystal Lake where she met and married Roy. The couple made their home in Britt where Lillian cared for her husband and four daughters.

Lillian's love for her family was huge; her life centered around her family.

She enjoyed baking, bowling, crafts, baking bread, playing cards and bingo. She and her husband wintered in Texas for 28 years.

Lillian was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Rebecca Lodge, and a member of the Methodist Church in Britt.

Survivors include her husband, Roy; and four daughters: Lanette (Bill) Arnold of Klemme, Jane (Gordie) Beier of Garner, Joyce (James) Blankenship of Katy, Texas, and Peg Charbonneaux of Clear Lake; 14 grandchildren: Monica (Jason) Charlie, Michelle Trca, Tami Trca, Travis (Trisha) Trca, Jesse (Angie) Pringnitz, Chris (Eric) Jackson, Jerry (Karrie) Pringnitz, Roy Hrubes, Gina (Pat) Pecinovsky, Kathi (Jerry) Glascock, Brent Wellik, Lee Leerar, Kelly (Garen) Janes and Lynn Francis, and 22 great-grandchildren; a sister, Vera (Herb) Hinz of Charles City; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Smidt of Britt; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.
