MILDRED CHRISTINE FELDT


MASON CITY — Mildred Christine Feldt, 88, of 780 S. Pierce Ave., Mason City, formerly of St. Ansgar, died Saturday (May 8, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held after 8:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Mildred married Edward A. Feldt in 1934 and to this union, one son and three daughters were born.

They owned and operated elevators in Carpenter, Meltonville, and St. Ansgar for many years until they sold out and purchased the Benson farm south of St. Ansgar, where they farmed for many years before retiring and moving into St. Ansgar.

After she lost Edward in 1980, she and Suzie stayed in St. Ansgar until 1990 when they moved to Mason City to be closer to her other daughter.

Mildred was a very loving and devoted mother and spent 64 years of her life caring for her disabled daughter Suzie until she lost her in June of 2001.

She had such a beautiful and special bond with each one of her children.

She loved watching all kinds of sports, especially her Iowa Hawkeyes.

She also like Bingo and puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Suzie; brother, Maurice Thompson; and several brothers and sisters-in-law.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, William Feldt, of Albany, Mo.; and daughters, Sherlyn Phares of Escondido, Calif., and Donna Jamison of Mason City. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Marion Feldt, Helen Feldt, and Maxine Thompson, and several nieces and nephews.

MASON CITY — Lyla K. Mentink, 76, of Mason City, died Monday (May 10, 2004) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 213 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. James M. Magelssen officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

ROBERT W. MINNIS


OSAGE — Robert W. Minnis, 90, of Osage, died Tuesday (May 11, 2004) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit.

Robert was born Nov. 27, 1913, on the family farm near Riceville, the son of Arthur and Ethel (Barker) Minnis.

He graduated from Riceville High School in 1931 and from Hamilton Business College in Mason City in 1960.

Robert was united in marriage to Allene McCord on July 6, 1940, at Allene’s parents’ home in Iowa Falls. Robert farmed with his father, Arthur, from 1934 to 1955.

He worked as a bookkeeper at Olson Motor Co. from 1960 to 1982, at Cooper’s Osage Chrysler for a short time, and at Paul’s Plumbing and Heating for 10 years until 1999.

Robert enjoyed antique tractors and cars, and the company of relatives and friends.

He was a member of the United Church of Christ in Osage.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the United Church of Christ in Osage with the Rev. Robert Melhorn officiating. Inurnment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Riceville at a later date.

Following the memorial service, there will be a time for fellowship and lunch at the church.

It was Robert’s wish to donate his body to the Des Moines University Osteopathic College to further future doctors’ learning and skills.

Memorials may be directed to the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage or the United Church of Christ in Osage.

He is survived by his wife, Allene (McCord) Minnis of Osage; two sons, William Minnis and his wife, Debbie, of Sheppard, Mich., and Frank Minnis and his wife, Sara, of Des Moines; one daughter, Sara Krueger and her husband, James, of Neenah, Wis.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded by his parents; one son, Bruce Minnis; one grandson, Nathan Krueger; one brother, Roy Minnis, and two sisters, Isabelle Coleman and Anna McClanahan.

CHARLES CITY — Novak Milich, 81, of Warren, Mich., died May 7, 2004, at Warren, Mich., due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease.

ASHBY, Minn. — Christian “Chris” Miller, 90, of Ashby, Minn., formerly of Osage, died Thursday (May 6, 2004) as the result of a fire at his home.

Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial will be in the Osage Cemetery.

There will be a gathering of family and friends one hour prior to services on Monday at the funeral home.

GARNER — Robert L. Best, 67, of Garner, died Monday (May 10, 2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Robert Leo Best, the son of Herman and Vera (Young) Best, was born July 15, 1936, at Pomeroy.

At an early age, he moved with his family to Garner, where he graduated from high school in 1954.

Following his schooling, Bob worked as a carpenter in the Garner area.

On March 16, 1957, he married Barbara Haugo at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City. They lived in Garner, where they raised their six children.

In February of 1964, he started Best Construction. He built many homes in Garner and the surrounding area as well as the Garner Country Club. Bob took pride in his craftsmanship.

He served his country in the Army Reserves.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling and was an avid golfer.

Bob also enjoyed watching his children’s and grandchildren’s activities and sporting events over the years.

He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, was a past member of the Garner Lions Club and a charter member of the Garner Country Club.

Bob is survived by his wife, Barbara, of Garner; six children, Carolyn Hejlik (Ralph Jr.), of West Des Moines, Kathleen Goll (Charles) of Garner, Juli Campbell (Scott) of Garner, Jacqueline Young (Marvin) of Garner, Joseph Best (Jane) of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Susan Beeck (Brian) of Sheboygan Falls, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, Kelly and Emily Hejlik, Holly and Jason Goll, Kati and Jay Campbell, Mallory, Courtney and Jacob Young, Rachel, Hannah and Erik Best, Allison and Erin Beeck; two brothers, Dennis Best of Clear Lake and Larry Best (Mary) of Grimes; an aunt, Rita Young, of Garner; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hanson of Lino Lakes, Minn.; brother-in-law, Gene Haugo (Beverly) of Lake Mills, and many nieces and nephews.

NORA SPRINGS — Viola Henrietta Bailey, 95, of Nora Springs, died Sunday (May 9, 2004) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye Ave. in Nora Springs, and one hour prior to service time on Friday at the church.

The family of Viola Henrietta Bailey has requested that memorial contributions be made to the St. Luke Lutheran Church or to Hospice of North Iowa in her memory.

Viola Henrietta Bailey was born on July 11, 1908, in Rock Falls, the daughter of John and Caroline (Wolert) Christiansen. She attended and received her education in the Rock Falls Community Schools, graduating from Rock Falls High School.

She was united in marriage to Gail Otto Bailey on April 11, 1929, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on July 17, 1977.

After their marriage, they farmed in the Mason City, Nora Springs and Plymouth areas.

Viola also worked as a sales clerk for Newberry 5 & Dime, Montgomery Ward, and also worked as a housekeeper for Mercy Hospital, all in Mason City.

She enjoyed crocheting, afghans, flowers, baking, cooking, and playing cards and games with her neighbors, but her great love and enjoyment was her family and friends.

Viola loved her church and was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church in Nora Springs, and enjoyed quilting with her church group.

Left to cherish her memory are her children: Carolynn Nicholson and her husband, Duane, of Baudette, Minn., John Bailey and his wife, Alice, of Tawas City, Mich., Norman Bailey and Pauline Peterson, of Nora Springs, and Connie Friedline and her husband, John, of Apex, N.C.; 18 grandchildren, 50 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren; a sister, Luella Kaldenberg of Rock Falls, and two brothers, Leonard Christiansen of Mason City and Clarence Christiansen and his wife, Evelyn, of Mason City, as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; stepmother, Meta Peterson Christianson; two sisters, Minna Stupka and Elsie Tibbits, and three stepbrothers, Bill, Arnold and Arthur Peterson.

Lyla Katherine Brunsvold was born June 21, 1927, in rural Kensett, the daughter of Albert L. and Ella B. (Ellingson) Brunsvold.

She graduated from Kensett High School in 1945.

Lyla was united in marriage to Maurice Mentink on Oct. 2, 1955, in Kensett. She worked for the State of Iowa as a health aide for 15 years.

Lyla was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Women’s Church Circle. She loved to play cards, sew, have coffee with friends and spend time with her grandchildren. The family would like to thank the staff at Hospice of Good Shepherd Health Center and Hospice of North Iowa for the care Lyla received.

Lyla is survived by: son, Michael Mentink and wife, Kari, of Mason City; daughter, Maureen Harrer, of Mason City; grandchildren, Blake and Camre Harrer, Turner and McKenna Mentink; sister, Harriet Petcoff, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Arlys Kimball, of Mason City; brother-in-law, John Mentink and wife, Mary, of Mason City; sister-in-law, Margaret Johnson and husband, Dean, of Chicago, Ill.; sister-in-law, Ragna Flatness and husband, Ronnie, of Mason City; brother-in-law, Joe Mentink and wife Pat of Indianapolis, Ind.; brother-in-law, Paul Fransen and wife, Mary, of Des Moines and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by special friends Fred and Nina Carson, Beverly Kohoutek and Garda Ones.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Maurice; sister, Alice Holstad; brothers-in-law, Steve Petcoff and Vern “Mug” Kimball; and sister-in-law, Judy Fransen.

APACHE JUNCTION, Ariz. — Karen Genette (Leidal) Plummer, 62, of Apache Junction, Ariz., and formerly of Northwood, died Saturday (April 17, 2004) at home in Apache Junction, Ariz., of natural causes.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood with interment following the service at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

Karen was born Dec. 5, 1941, to Curtis and Luella (Holstad) Leidal in Albert Lea, Minn. She graduated from Northwood High School in 1960 and Hamilton Business College of Mason City in 1961. She worked in banks in Clarion, Mason City, Des Moines and Mesa, Ariz.

She married Robert Plummer on April 9,1987, in Mesa, Ariz.

She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Mesa, Ariz.

She loved music, sang in the choir and played the piano for enjoyment. She enjoyed bowling and was very active in a Moose Lodge in Mesa.

She is survived by her husband, Bob; one son, Kevin Ganji, of Sioux Falls, S.D., and one grandson, Joshua; her parents, Curtis and Luella Leidal; one stepdaughter, Rebecca Kay (Todd) Darlan; one step-son, Russell J. Plummer; two step-grandchildren, Matthew and Lisa Darlan; two sisters, Laverne (Ken) Fredrickson, of Kensett, and Kathy (Tom) Christianson, of Hayfield, Minn.; two brothers, LeRoy (Lonna) Leidal, of Hudson, Wis., and Kevin (Rebecca) Leidal, of Solon; one sister-in-law, Hazel Lee Burgett, of Des Moines; five nieces, four nephews, three great-nieces, three great-nephews, one great-great niece, and many other relatives and friends.

BRITT — Fred E. Swisher, 81, of Britt, died Monday (May 10, 2004) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

His funeral will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Britt, with the Rev. Robert Dodge officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Britt, with military rites by the Britt Veterans Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Cataldo Funeral Home in Britt and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Fred Ernest Swisher, the son of Ernest and Blanche (Macy) Swisher, was born May 24, 1922, at Vermillion, S.D. He attended school in Vermillion, where he graduated from high school in 1940.

He was inducted into the U.S. Army on June 18, 1940, and served his country as a radio operator in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.

Following his honorable discharge on June 21, 1945, he returned to Vermillion and attended the University of South Dakota, where he received his bachelor’s degree in speech/English.

On Oct. 2, 1954, he married Jean Sipling at LeGrand. They lived in Des Moines, Hampton, and in 1957 moved to Britt. Fred taught school in Rapid City, S.D., Hansell, Iowa, and from 1957 to 1986 at Britt.

In his teaching career at Britt he taught English and was in charge of the drama department and debate team. Fred also taught communication skills at NIACC in Mason City for 22 years.

He enjoyed his family, golf, visiting with people and talking about history, especially World War II.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Britt, United Methodist Men and was a Sunday School teacher.

He also was a member of the Britt American Legion, Masonic Lodge and ISEA.

Fred was active in the Hancock County Little Theatre and was instrumental in helping organize it.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Jean, of Britt; three children, Sherri Schrandt and husband, Don, of Britt, Deb Swisher of Nashville, Tenn., and Terry Swisher of Nashville; four grandchildren, Gina Riherd of Forest City, John Riherd of Cleveland, Texas, Katie Riherd of Crystal Lake and Carla Riherd of Britt; five great-grandchildren, Samantha, Zack, Mackenzie, Steven and Abby; and a sister-in-law, Jo Swisher of Tulsa, Okla.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Robert Allen Riherd; a brother, Warren “Buck” Swisher; a half-sister, Millicent Howell; and a half-brother, Walter Swisher.

Genevieve was born March 6, 1906, in Barnsville, Minn., the daughter of Hugo and Nona (Fitzgerald) Fex. She attended and graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Pocahontas.

Genevieve married Charles Grandon on Jan. 31, 1928, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Laurens. They were the first couple to be married in that parish.

They lived in Laurens until July 1946, when they moved to Clear Lake. Due to her health, Genevieve moved to Manly to live with her granddaughter, Jill.

She was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Clear Lake.

Genevieve is survived by her two sons, Charles Romaine “Granny” Grandon, of Manly, and Michael Grandon and his wife, Mary, of Clear Lake; six grandchildren, Chris “Kit” Grandon, of Ames, Jill Houston, of Manly, Brenda Beernink and her husband, Mark, of Rick Valley, Valerie Glaser and significant other, David Warhol, of Prior Lake, Minn., Lynae Hershey and her husband, Dan, of Prior Lake, and Mike Glaser and his wife, Allyson, of West Des Moines; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

MASON CITY — Dale McCaulley, 80, of 667 Briarstone Drive, Mason City, died Monday, (May 10, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

After retiring from Northwestern Cement Co. in 1985, he continued to enjoy his hobbies of trapping turtles, fishing anywhere they were “biting” and spending time telling stories with his buddies.

Surviving family members include his wife, Edna; daughters, Barbara Stewart and her husband, Mike, Debra Boisen and her husband, Dwight; and son, Brian McCaulley and his wife, Karin; grandchildren, Kari, Kris, and Korey Peters, and Meghan Shafer; and great-grandchildren, Eric and Joselyn. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

ROCKFORD — Marie Catherine (Trettin) Weigand, 77, longtime R-R-MR teacher, died Tuesday (May 11, 2004) in her home with family and friends by her side.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Zion Lutheran Church, 805 E. Main Ave., Rockford, with Pastor Patricia Shaw officiating. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery in Rockford.

The family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Fullerton-Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main St., Rockford. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Marie was born Sept. 29, 1928, at Grafton, Iowa. She was the eighth child born to Albert F. and Kathrina (Claus) Trettin.

Marie was baptized in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Grafton. On March 1, 1929, the Trettin family moved to a farm one mile East of Rockford.

Marie was confirmed in the Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford. She graduated from Rockford High School in 1946, having completed two years of normal training courses while attending high school.

She then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) for two years and earned an elementary teaching certificate.

Marie taught at the junior high school in LaPorte City for two years.

On July 10, 1949, Marie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Weigand. She continued to teach in the Rockford school for four years, also helping Bill with their business, “Ice Cream and Lunch,” which they owned and operated for six years.

In 1957, the Weigand family moved to Rancho Cordova, Calif. Marie earned her B.A. at the University of California-Sacramento in 1970.

She continued at the U of C graduate school for another year and substituted regularly in the Folsom School District.

While in California, Marie was active as a Cub Scout den mother, Junior Girl Scout leader, Sunday School Principal, Sunday School, and Bible School teacher and assisted with confirmation classes.

She was also involved in community activities and gave freely of her time to assist with swim teams on which her children participated.

In 1966, Marie was presented with the “Mother of the Year” award for her volunteer service to school, church and the community of Rancho Cordova.

In 1973, the Weigand family returned to Iowa. From 1973 until her retirement in 1994, Marie taught in the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock schools, teaching home economics and language arts.

She served as a delegate at the National Education Association Convention and the Iowa State Education Associate Convention and was also a local delegate for the R-R-MR schools for several years.

Marie was a member of the Council of English Teachers Association and served as a board member and president on the R-R-MR Student Loan Association.

Marie will long be remembered as the “Spelling Bee Coach Extraordinaire.” Twenty-eight of her students progressed to the state spelling bee, with most of them placing in the top five percent. In 1982, she accompanied her Iowa winner to the Washington, D.C., National Spelling Bee.

She was selected by senior students for the first edition of Who’s Who Among American Teachers and was selected by Iowa Masons as one of the five finalists as Mason Teacher of the Year, 1992.

Marie was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church, Rockford.

She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, reading and traveling. She and Bill were avid Iowa Hawkeye fans.

Surviving are her children, C.W. Weigand of El Dorado, Calif.; Jan Weigand of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; Tom Weigand and his wife, Beth, of Decatur, Ill., and Joel Weigand of Elkhart, Iowa; one granddaughter, Annalisa Marie Weigand of DeSoto, Ill; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer Guarna of El Dorado and Brandi Baker-Reich of Mason City; three sisters, Ella Schutt and Mabel Trettin, both of Mason City; Shirley Fullerton of Rockford; three brothers, Harold Trettin and his wife, Fran, Ed Trettin and his wife, Margaret, and George Trettin and his wife, Arlene, all of Rockford; her sister-in-law, Sally Stadtlander and her husband, Myron; also surviving are many nieces and nephews and special friends, Barb McKinstry and Doug Schroeder.

FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Robert C. Bailey, 69, of Fort Collins, Colo., went to be with Jesus on Monday, May 10, 2004. He died of complications following a stroke.

Bob was born in Mason City, Iowa, on April 11, 1935, to Lester and Blanche (Nelson) Bailey. He graduated from Mason City High School and from Greenville College in Illinois, where he received a BA in education. While at Greenville, he met his wife, Myrtle White.

He was an elementary teacher for 34 years. His students were very special to him.

He was a charter member of the Free Methodist Church in Bellevue, Neb. He served in many capacities in that body of Christ until moving to Fort Collins in 2001.

Christian education was important to Bob. He served on the Board of Trustees of Central Christian College for 10 years. Gideon International was a great part of Bob’s life. He loved distributing God’s word.

Since moving to Fort Collins, Bob had joined Timberline Church. He was involved with the Prime Timers ministry, which had led to many friendships.

Bob will be remembered as a faithful husband, loving brother, uncle and Godfather. We will miss his hugs, his prayers, his jokes and his great zest for life. We rejoice that he is safe in the arms of his Heavenly Father.

Bob leaves behind his wife, Myrtle; sisters, Margaret Bryant and her husband, Seth, Waneta Bagger and her husband, Richard, Venita Christian and her husband, Ron, and Jean Joy. He will also be missed by cousins; nieces; nephews; Godchildren; and a host of friends.

Elroy Francis Hentges was born Oct. 14, 1916, at Alta Vista, the son of Peter and Susan (Lentz) Hentges.

He attended St. Williams School in Alta Vista and then worked for Brady Transfer & Storage in Fort Dodge.

He was married in 1944 to Kathleen McKay in Waucoma.

He enlisted in the U.S. Navy the day after Pearl Harbor and served on the USS Washington as a gunners mate.

After his discharge, he returned to Brady Transfer & Storage.

Elroy later operated a Standard Oil Station in Mechanicsville, and worked at D & D Body Shop in Lisbon.

He then opened his own front end alignment shop in Lisbon known as Wimp’s Alignment.

He retired and moved to Alta Vista in 1981.

Elroy enjoyed fishing, bowling, baseball, gardening, playing cards, canning, cooking and especially visiting with family and friends.

He was a member of St. Bernard Church, the Paul Johann VFW Post in Alta Vista, a lifetime member of American Legion Post 106 in Lisbon, and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

Elroy is survived by a daughter, Kathleen Hentges of Mason City; three brothers, Clem (Lillian) Hentges of Fort Dodge, Robert (Mercedes) Hentges of Mason City and Paul (Wilburta) Hentges of Alta Vista. Also surviving are two sisters, Maxine Neuhauser of Rancho Santo Margarita, Calif., and Mary Lou (Gerald) Posphical of Riceville; a sister-in-law, Lucille McKay of Waucoma; a brother-in-law, Ty Hill of San Angelo, Texas; two godchildren, Sandy Meleney of Mason City and Leo Pospichal of Buffalo, Minn. Also surviving are nieces and nephews.

BELMOND — Thora Mary (Carpenter) Trees, 99, a resident of the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond, died Thursday (May 13, 2004) at the Belmond Health Care Center with her son at her side.

Thora Carpenter was born Feb. 16, 1905, on her parents’ farm north of Goodell, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred C. and Lydia Janes (Smith) Carpenter.

Thora attended country school through the 8th grade, then went to high school in Goodell and graduated in 1923.

Following her schooling, she returned home to the farm for a short period of time.

On Aug. 26, 1924, she was united in marriage to James F. Trees at the Methodist Church in Belmond. To this union two children were born, a daughter, Cleo, and son, William “Bill” Trees.

Thora was a lifelong homemaker. She was a member at the United Methodist Church for nearly 75 years and had been active in the UMCW, Rebecca and Goodwill Circles, and the Belmond Senior Citizens.

Thora and her husband enjoyed spending many winters in Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim, in November 1983.

She later moved to the Belmond Retirement Community Apartments and resided there for 18 years prior to becoming a resident of the care center in June 2001.

She leaves to mourn her death, her daughter, Cleo Frank and husband, Richard, 118 Point Fosdick Circle, N.W., Gig Harbor, WA 98335; a son, Bill Trees, P.O. Box 461, Wauna, WA 98395; and a brother, Richard Carpenter and his wife, Carole, of Shelter Cove, Calif.; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

GARNER — Larry G. Neal, 67, of Garner, died Friday (May 7, 2004) at Weslaco, Texas.

Larry Glen Neal, the son of Glen George and Erma Dora (Bell) Neal, was born March 10, 1938 at Dows.

He graduated from Dows High School and continued his education at AIB in Des Moines.

He then returned to Dows, where he worked with his father, Glen, at the sale barn.

On Sept. 28, 1958, he married A. Elaine Reichardt at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. They lived in Garner, where Larry was involved in the car business.

He had worked at Glen’s Pontiac, Glen’s Auto Sales, Ollenburg-Neal Motors and most recently at Clear Lake Auto Sales, which he owned and operated with his son, Mark.

He enjoyed traveling and mission work. He and Elaine also enjoyed leading numerous work camps to Mexico over the years.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Garner.

HAMPTON — Dean Earl Eisentrager, 56, of Hampton, died Thursday (May 13, 2004) at his farm in rural Hampton.

Dean was born July 24, 1947, in Hampton to Earl and Mildred (Rewerts) Eisentrager. He graduated from Sheffield-Chapin High School.

He served in the U.S. Army Reserves.

He was united in marriage to Linda Ramker on Dec. 30, 1969, in Mason City.

He farmed, raised livestock and was employed by Eaton Corp. in Belmond.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was active in the Knights of Columbus.

Dean’s pride and joy were his three daughters. He enjoyed going to all of the girl’s sporting events and loved spending time showing hogs at all of the fairs. He also enjoyed baby sitting his daughters’ pug dogs, Asa and Ady.

He is survived by his mother, Mildred Eisentrager, of Ackley; daughter, Joy Lynn Eisentrager and fiance, Darin Schrader, of Hampton; daughter, Kari Marie Eisentrager and fiance, James McKenna of Story City; and Mindy Ann Eisentrager and fiance, Jade Pecha, of Dumont; brother, Gene and wife, Julie Eisentrager, of Hampton; brother, Duane and wife, Sue Eisentrager, of Hampton; brother, Galen and wife, Marlene Eisentrager, of Sheffield; and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Earl; maternal grandparents, Rivert and Jophie Rewerts; and paternal grandparents, Frank and Lela Eisentrager.

GREENE — Funeral service for Betty J. Brunsma, 82, of 304 N. Fifth St., Greene, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Greene, with Pastor Paul Uzel Officiating. Private interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Greene.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Reid’s Funeral Chapel in Greene, where there will be a public scripture service and time of remembrance at 7 p.m.

Betty Jo Cornell was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Altus, Jackson County, Okla., a daughter of Nelson George and Alta Blanche (Eldridge) Cornell, and died Wednesday (May 12, 2004) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

She received her education and graduated from high school in Altus and attended junior college in Altus.

She became employed as a secretary at Altus Air Base, where she met and married Bernard George Brunsma on Sept. 16, 1943. Following his discharge in 1946 from the Air Corps they moved to Greene.

Betty was employed as secretary to the Superintendent of the Greene Community School District from 1959 until her retirement in 1983.

Betty will be remembered for her love of playing bridge. She was one of four members who formed a bridge club named Club 8, which has been in existence for over 55 years.

Her other interests included gardening, knitting, word find puzzles, and reading mystery books.

Betty’s family and her special pet, Maggie, was her ultimate joy.

Living family members include her beloved husband, Bernard Brunsma of Greene; her children, Vicki (Craig) Smeins of Lago Vista, Texas, and Steve (Barb) Brunsma of Greene; six grandchildren: Kelli (Jim) Thornton, Thomas Gray, Stephani Gray, Mitchel (Kim) Brunsma, Christopher (Angie) Brunsma, and Jordan Brunsma; one brother, George (Doris) Cornell of Oklahoma City, Okla.; and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and son, Michael, on Sept. 29, 2003.

AURORA, Ill. — Barbara Jean Chimbidis (nee Becker), 70, died April 30, 2004, at her home in Aurora, surrounded by her husband and loving family.

Barbara was born in Mason City on Aug. 13, 1933, the oldest of four sisters born to Fred and Rosalinda Becker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and stepmother, as well as a younger sister, Rose Lynn.

She is survived by two younger sisters, Virginia Pedersen and Marlene Fremin, both of Denver, Colo.; a half brother, Leonard Harms, of Forest City; as well as her husband, James, and her four children, Steve Kramer, of New Lennox, Ill., Tom Kramer, of National City, Calif., Doug Kramer, of Bollingbrook, Ill., and Linda Edwards, of Aurora; and eight grandchildren.

Barbara had lived in Illinois since 1969, first in Downers Grove and later in Aurora. Services were private.
