HENRY A. STEENBLOCK, JR.
BELMOND — Henry A. Steenblock, Jr., 91, of
Janesville, Wis., a longtime resident of
Belmond, died Friday afternoon (June 4, 2004) at
the Collinwood Eldercare Center in Orfordville,
Wis.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday
at the Belmond United Church of Christ
Congregational in Belmond. The Reverend Lynne
Spencer-Smith will officiate. Burial will be in
the Belmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at the
church on Monday.
The family suggests memorials to the Belmond
United Church of Christ Congregational or the
donor’s choice.
Henry was born on Aug. 3, 1912, on a farm in the
Ventura area, the son of Henry A. Steenblock Sr.
and Ada (Woodfull) Steenblock. He attended
country school through the eighth grade and then
left to work on the family farm. He worked with
his father tiling farms in the Belmond/Klemme
area. He later worked as a finishing carpenter
for Ted Zook in Belmond, and was also in
partnership with his brother, Murland, in a mink
ranch.
He was united in marriage to Blanche S. Sharp on
Nov. 19, 1939. The couple had one son, David, on
Sept. 17, 1942.
Henry was unable to enlist in the service during
World War II due to a visual impairment,
however, he did spend a period of time working
on government highway projects, such as the
Alaskan Highway.
Henry and his wife, Blanche, were avid golfers.
He also enjoyed fishing, gardening and later in
life became interested in making jewelry from
rocks and gemstones he received from all over
the world. He passed many hours playing cards
with Louie and Frances Mennenga and Louis
Larson.
His wife preceded him in death in November,
1986.
He is survived by his son, David, and
daughter-in-law, Marsha, and granddaughters,
Erin and Sarah all of Janesville, Wis.
Erin is presently attending the University of
Iowa and Sarah will be commencing her freshman
year at the University of Wisconsin this fall.
Henry was preceded in death by his parents;
wife, Blanche; half sister, Lavene; and his
brother.

DOWS — E. Sue Denger, 67, of Wichita, Kan.,
formerly of Dows, died Friday (May 21, 2004) of
heart disease.

MARY JANE LEINENKUGEL
NEW HAVEN — Mary Jane Leinenkugel, 83, of New
Haven, was called home to the Lord on Saturday
(June 5, 2004). She died at the Mitchell County
Regional Health Center in Osage.
Mary Jane was born Aug. 28, 1920, in Douglas
Township, Mitchell County, the daughter of John
C. and Vern (Kehoe) Fox. She was raised as a
farm girl on the homestead just south of New
Haven.
Mary Jane graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in
New Haven. She attended Mount Mercy College in
Cedar Rapids and nursing training at St. Luke’s
in Sioux City, before graduating from nursing
training in Mason City.
Mary Jane served as a nurse in the U.S. Army
during World War II.
Mary Jane was united in marriage to Norman “Bud”
Leinenkugel on Nov. 25, 1948, at St. Peter’s
Catholic Church in New Haven. Their marriage was
blessed with eight children.
She was a long time member of the Altar Society
of St. Peter’s Church. She taught religious
education for many years and was involved with
mission activities. She was active in Bible
study.
Mary Jane served in several capacities of the
A.C.C.W. She was also a member of the American
Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Association
of Retarded Citizens.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and
grandmother, and wonderful friend. Over the
years, she shared with family and friends her
deep faith, along with her many talents. Mary
Jane was a great cook, the family historian, a
gardener, and a nature lover.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m.
Tuesday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New
Haven, with the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating.
Interment will be in St. Peter’s Catholic
Cemetery in New Haven, with a flag presentation
by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, 702
State St. in Osage, where there will be a rosary
at 6 p.m. and Scripture Wake Service at 7 p.m.
Visitation will continue one hour before
services at the church on Tuesday.

San Diego, Calif., Therese Rolfes (Tim), of

(Cindi), of Hemet, Calif., and children, Amber,

MASON CITY — Thomas David Rothamel, 50, of 508
S. Filmore, Mason City, died Friday (June 4,
2004) at his home.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday
at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126
Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Reverend
Harry H. Koelker of St. Joseph Catholic Church
in Mason City officiating. Burial will be in the
Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today, and
one hour prior to service time on Tuesday at the
chapel.
Thomas David Rothamel was born on April 26,
1954, in Charles City, the son of John and Fern
(Nodtvedt) Rothamel. He attended and received
his education in the Mason City school system,
graduating from Mason City High School.
He enjoyed gardening and yard work.
Left to cherish his memory is a brother, John
Rothamel and his wife, Mary Ann, of Superior,
Wis.; a niece, Jennifer Haworth and her husband,
Justin, of St. Paul, Minn.; a nephew, Jeff
Rothamel and his fiancé, Patty Cleary, of
Superior, Wis.; an aunt, Gerry Lansing and her
husband, Leonard, of Mason City; and an aunt,
Rose Sallee, of Mason City; as well as other
relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a
brother, Anthony Rothamel; and other aunts and

CEDAR RAPIDS — Richard J. Schenkelberg, 81, of
4622 First Ave. N.W., #A, Cedar Rapids, died
Saturday (June 5, 2004) following a long illness
at the Heritage Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday
at the St. Jude Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids,
with the Rev. Don Czapla officiating. Burial
will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
A vigil will be held at 6 p.m. today at the
Teahen Funeral Home, 3100 F Ave. N.W. in Cedar
Rapids, where friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m.

Richard is survived by his wife, Marie; four
sons, John (Anita) and Paul (Judy), both of
Cedar Rapids, Mark (Rhonda), of Chicago, Ill.,
and Eric (Mary), of Arlington, Texas; a
daughter, Mary Pruden, of Cedar Rapids; nine
grandchildren, Kelly, Michael, Laura, Brian,
Kristina, Amy and Brad Schenkelberg and Matthew
and Lauren Pruden; and five sisters, Lucille
(Joe) Koenig, of Cedar Rapids, Kathryn
Schenkelberg and Mary Jane (Floyd) Goecke, both
of Omaha, Neb., Dorothy (Vincent) Koenig, of
Carroll, and Margaret Burke, of Des Moines.
His brothers, John and Carl, and sisters, Lois
and Bonita, preceded him in death.
Richard was born May 9, 1923, the son of John
and Margaret Schmitz Schenkelberg in Carroll. He
graduated from Carroll High School in 1941, and
the University of Iowa College of Pharmacy in
1947.
He married Marie Dorothy Fahy on June 5, 1950,
in Iowa City. They lived in Mason City for 18
years and moved to Cedar Rapids in 1969. Richard
was a retired Pharmacist for Mays and Revco Drug
Stores.
He was a member of the St. Jude Catholic Church
and an Army veteran of World War II.
The family would like to extend their
appreciation to Heritage Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center’s nurses and aides for the
care given to Richard.

DORIS RAE MASON
OTTUMWA — Doris Rae Mason, 80, of 431 Appanoose,
died at 5:35 a.m. Sunday (June 6, 2004) at the
Ottumwa Regional Health Center.
She was born April 14, 1924, in Ottumwa, to
Chester L. and Franc J. McGraw Johns.
She married Kenneth R. Williams on Nov. 6, 1942,
in Ottumwa. He preceded her in death on Sept.
26, 1989. She married William Mason on Feb. 9,
1991.
A resident of Ottumwa all of her life, she had
been an employee of the Ottumwa Hospital for
fourteen years.
She was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic
Church, Bosom Buddies and was an avid bowler.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mary
Cassady, of Ottumwa, and Pat Mitchell, of
Sunrise Beach, Mo.; two sons, John Williams, of
Mason City, and Dan Williams, of Blakesburg;
three stepdaughters, Deborah Young, of St.
Charles, Mo., Rhonda Morin, of Oceanside,
Calif., and Lorna Miller, of Ottumwa; three
stepsons, William “Tom” Mason, of Lenexa, Kan.,
John Mason, of Des Moines, and Jeffrey Mason, of
Ottumwa; four grandchildren; five
greatgrandchildren; thirteen stepgrandchildren;
and eleven step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two grandchildren;
two brothers, Pat and Byrne Johns; and two
sisters, Charlotte Pendergraft and Helen
Schrinsky.
Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday
at St. Mary of the Visitation in Ottumwa, with

BARBARA JUNE ROSEN
THOMPSON — Barbara June (Eide) Rosen, 64, of
Thompson, died on Sunday (June 6, 2004) at her
home in Thompson, following a courageous battle
with cancer.
Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m.
Thursday at the Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church
in Thompson with the Rev. Ted Gullixson
officiating. Inurnment will take place at Rose
Hill Cemetery in Thompson.
Barbara June Eide was born on June 23, 1939, to
parents Irving and Ruby (Johnson) Eide, at Lake
Mills, Iowa.
Barb was an only child who was raised in Lake
Mills and Forest City, and graduated from Forest
City High School.
Without having any siblings, Barbara grew up
with her first cousins as brothers and sisters.
She was united in marriage with Richard Rosen in
1960.
Barb was later married to Maynard Peterson in
1980.
Barb was blessed with three children from her
marriages, Rhonda, Dawn, and Danny.
Her hobbies included spending time with her
family and with her beloved dog, Boomie.
She also enjoyed watching her soap operas on
television on a daily basis.
Barbara was a loving and devoted mother. In
turn, her children responded with love and
devotion to their mother, being there to care
for her up until the end.
Barb was also a true friend. One of her greatest
qualities was being a good listener. She was
always interested and attentive to others when
they would express their concerns or
experiences.
Throughout her illness, Barb did not dwell on
her problems nor did she complain or seek pity
from others. She was a fighter up until the end.
Barbara prayed and put her trust in the Lord,
and accepted His will, whatever that may be.
Left to cherish her memory are her children,
Rhonda Rosen, Danny Peterson, and Dawn Thompson
and her husband, Reed; and her cousins with whom
she had special ties, the children of Jeanette
and Dorn Thompson: Violet Loeschen, Keith
Thompson, Betty Thompson, Dennis Thompson,
Robert “Dusty” Thompson, Debra Kvammen, Doris
Hatland, and De Etta Buns, and the children of
Wanda and James Johnson: Mavis Nieman, Fred
Irvin, Douglas Irvin, Dean Johnson, and Beth
Erdman.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irving
and Ruby Eide; special grandmother, Mary
Johnson; aunts Lenora Eide and Jeanette

GERTRUDE R. MEIRICK
NEW HAVEN — Gertrude R. Meirick, 94 , of
Dubuque, and formerly of rural New Haven and
Charles City, died Sunday (June 6, 2004) at the
Stone Hill Care Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Gertrude was born March 5, 1910, in Howard
County near Riceville, the daughter of William
and Anna (Cashman) Marr. Gertrude graduated from
St. Mary’s Academy in New Haven. She was united
in marriage to Paul J. Meirick on Sept. 30, 1933
at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven.
They farmed in the New Haven area. Paul died in
1973. She then moved to Charles City, and while
living there she was recognized by the Charles
City Chamber of Commerce as its “Outstanding
Senior Citizen.”
She was an accomplished musician and seamstress.
While she was in Charles City she was involved
with the “Senior Citizens Fun Band.”
Gertrude was active in the A.C.C.W. and Altar
and Rosary Societies and was a member of the Lay
Carmelites.
She moved to Dubuque in September of 1997. She
was an inspiration to all that knew her.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at
St. Peter’s Catholic Church in New Haven, with
the Rev. Ray E. Atwood officiating. Interment
will be in St. Peter’s Catholic Cemetery in New
Haven.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m.
Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home
in Osage, where there will be a Rosary and
Scripture Service conducted by the Lay
Carmelites at 5 p.m. Visitation will continue
one hour before services on Thursday at the
church.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann (Patrick)
O’Brien of Dubuque; three sons, Bill (Ann)
Meirick of Protivin, Dick (Ginger) Meirick of
New Haven, and Dan Meirick of Las Vegas, Nev.;
two sisters, Mary Miller of River Falls, Wis.,
and Grace Fox of St. Ansgar and Mesa, Ariz.; 18
grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; one
sister-in-law, Kay Marr of Forth Worth, Texas;
one brother-in-law, Jim Dunlay, of Clear Lake

ALBANY, Ore. — Charles Michael Doolan, 66, of
Albany, died May 26, 2004, at his home.
Charles Michael Doolan was born Oct. 31, 1937,
in Mason City, Iowa, the son of Bartley and
Hilda (Streek) Doolan.
He was united in marriage to Barbara Woll on
Aug. 23, 1958 in Springfield, Ore.
He moved to Oregon in 1959. He graduated from
the University of Oregon in 1962.
He worked as a sales manager for Williamette
Industries until retiring in 1994.
He was an avid Duck fan and attended many
University of Oregon football games. He enjoyed
golfing, traveling, reading and deep sea
fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Doolan, of
Albany, Ore.; one son, Jeff Doolan, of Albany,
Ore.; two daughters, Kathy Schamp, of Keizer,
and Debbie Hogan, of Albany; sisters, Lassara
Reddington, of Omaha, Neb., Marcia Kiroff, of
Omaha, Neb., and Kate Fox, of Mason City, Iowa;
two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a
brother, Bud Doolan.

MASON CITY — H. Daniel Hazelett, 63, of Mason
City, formerly of Manly, died Friday (June 4,
2004) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in
Mason City, of congestive heart failure.
A celebration of life will held 11 a.m. Saturday
at the United Methodist Church, 503 E. South St.
in Manly, with the Rev Bob Cummings officiating.
There will be no inurnment.

is in charge of the arrangements.

Dan, the son of Hugh D. and Pauline (Jolly)
Hazelett, was born Oct. 2, 1940, in Ainswoth,
Iowa.
He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1958
and Mankato State College in 1962.
After graduation, he taught social studies and
French for two years at Lawton Community School
and at North Central Community Schools at Manly
from 1964 until his retirement in 1996.
He continued his graduate education in French at
Emporia State College and the University of
Northern Iowa.
One of Dan’s greatest loves was spending time in
France to enhance his French. He spent this past
January through March in Saint-Gilles.
Dan had a great knowledge of history, which he
enjoyed sharing with others.
His interests were varied and broad from his
grade school years of searching beside Long
Creek for arrow- heads, to genealogy, antiques,
automobiles, an enjoyment of music and visiting
with friends.
Dan was an active member of the Manly faculty
and community serving on many committees,
including city council, the Manly Library, the
Manly Railroad Days, the NCEA Negation, the AEA
3 curriculum planning and he was a North Central
School annual advisor.
Dan was a loving son, father, grandfather,
brother, and uncle, who was very proud of his
family. He loved and enjoyed spending time with
his family
Survivors included one son, Hugh Hazelett and

NORTHWOOD — James Duane Lee, 76, of Northwood
died on Sunday (June 6, 2004) at the Muse Norris
Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.
Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday
at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood, with
the Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating. Burial will be
in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood.

James was born on Dec. 10, 1927 in Colington,
Alberta, Canada, to Harry and Emma (Storey) Lee,
and was later adopted by Peter Ostmo.
He was baptized on Jan. 19, 1928, at the United
Church of Canada, Colington, by J.E. Ball.
James entered the U.S. Navy, serving in the
Aleutian Islands before being honorably
discharged.
He married Madeline V. Whiting on June 6, 1948,
at Bristol Church, rural Joice, Iowa.
James loved to work, working for over 20 years
for the city of Northwood, driving truck for
many years and farming for several years.
He enjoyed his grandchildren. He collected
various items including antique toy cars.
James enjoyed junking and mowing lawns and
gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother
Odis Lee; grandson, Brandon Thompson.
James is survived by his wife, Madeline, of
Northwood; son, Michael (Judy) Lee, of
Northwood; daughters, Kathleen (Ronold) Gentz of

died Tuesday (June 8, 2004) at the Mitchell
County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Lyle Raymond Boyer was born Oct. 10, 1913, in
Floyd County, the son of Samuel and Mildred
(Rice) Boyer. He attended Floyd County country
schools.
On Jan. 29, 1935, he was united in marriage to
Arlene Hoisington at Charles City.
Lyle was a farmer, mechanic, and worked for many
years with Floyd County Conservation, retiring
in 1976.
He was a member of the National Rifleman’s
Association.
Lyle’s hobbies included hunting, trapping,
fishing and spending time with his cats.
He will also be remembered for his arrowhead
collection.
Living family members include three children,
Cheryl (Donald) Meek, Bonnie Johanns, and
Raymond (Barb) Boyer all of Charles City; five
grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a
great-great-granddaughter; and a sister-in-law,
Pearl Boyer, of Charles City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife,
Arlene on Feb. 15, 2001; a granddaughter, Jackie

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. — Dorla J. Bender, 72,
died Tuesday (May 18, 2004) at Sierra Vista
Hospital in San Luis Obispo, Calif., after a
brief illness.
She was born in Mason City, on Sept. 18, 1931.
She attended school in Mason City, where she
lived most of her life before moving to San Luis
Obispo in 1986.
After raising her family, Dorla worked as a
caregiver for 25 years. She loved being able to
bring loving kindness and comfort to all who
came into her life.
Her words to live by were “Look for the
beautiful in everyone and everything and the
TRUTH will come to you.”
She is survived by her daughter, Christine B.
Holmlund and son-in-law, Steven D. Holmlund, of
San Luis Obispo; her sons, Walter C. Bender and
daughter-in-law, Karyl Ramsey, of Battle Ground,
Wash., and David M. Bender and daughter-in-law,
Darcy DuRuz, of Eugene, Ore.; along with 11
grandchildren, Sarah Mussulman, Katherine
Mussulman, Daniel Mussulman, Jacob Holmlund,
Jennifer Bender, Elizabeth B. Morgan, Claire

ROCKFORD — Funeral services for Mary Myers, 96,
of 610 First Ave. S.W. Rockford, will be 10:30

Mary Halma was born June 20, 1907, near Kesley,
Hardin County, a daughter of Richard and Cora (Molek)
Halma, and died Tuesday (June 8, 2004) at her
home in Rockford.
She received her education in rural schools near
Kesley and was united in marriage to Harold
Myers on March 10, 1927, in Venice, Calif.
Shortly after their marriage, they moved to
their home in Rockford, where she lived until
her death.
During World War II, she helped out with
roofing, painting, and wallpapering, which she
continued to do until she was 70 years old.
Her interests included gardening, growing
flowers, crocheting, quilt making, and reading
books.
She enjoyed playing cards, watching Lawrence
Welk on television and going on senior citizen’s
trips. Her greatest joy was her family.
She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Royal
Neighbor’s, charter member of the Happy Birthday
Club, U.M.W. Circle, and a member of Rockford
Senior Citizens.
Living family members include her loving
children, Maxine Burke, of Rockford, and Cecil
(Mary Ann) Myers, of Greene; nine grandchildren,
Steven Burke, Marilou (Don) Dormeier, Ervin
(Jane) Burke, Michael (Mary) Burke, Ellen (Mike)

She was married to Steve Cummings of Garner from
1988 to 1998. They moved from Clear Lake to
Washington, Iowa, in 1988, at which time Julie
went back to school to get her psychology and
sociology degrees.
She graduated from the University of Iowa in
1991 with a double major.
She was employed as a counselor with ASAC while
living in Hiawatha, Iowa, from 1993 to 1999.
Julie had a smile for everyone she came in
contact with and her greatest joy was bragging
about her grandchild, Shyann Beach.
Julie is survived by two children, a daughter,
Sue Beach and her husband, Sean, of Waterloo;
and a son, Sean Cummings of Cedar Rapids; and a
granddaughter, Shyann Beach of Waterloo.

Grace Jean Cheyne was born Aug. 23, 1917, in
Blairsburg, Iowa, the daughter of Lawrence J.S.
and Etta S. (Nicholson) Cheyne.
Jean was a graduate of the Williams High School
in 1934.
On Aug. 8, 1942, Jean was united in marriage to
Harold F. Storm in Springfield, Mo.
She worked as a beautician and a homemaker.
Jean was a member of the United Presbyterian
Church of Lone Tree and the Lone Tree American
Legion Auxiliary.
Jean served on the building committee when the
United Presbyterian Church was constructed.
She served as a Girl Scout leader, was an avid
Hawkeye fan and card player.
Jean enjoyed reading, music and traveling, but
most of all Jean dearly enjoyed spending time
with her family, especially the grandchildren
and great-grandchildren.
Jean will be deeply missed by her two daughters,

Gladys Lucille Davids was born Dec. 17, 1929, at
home in Geneva, the daughter of Harm and
Margaret (Backerman) Davids.
She attended Sheffield Public School and
graduated in 1947. After graduation she worked
at the Sheffield Press.
On Sept. 3, 1951, Gladys was united in marriage
with Marvin Robert Floy at Redeemer Lutheran
Church in Ventura. They made their home on a
farm south of Ventura and later moved to Charles
City.
In 1966, they moved to Thornton where she worked
at the Southern County News. During this time
she also taught kindergarten at Gethsemeny
Lutheran School (now Prince of Peace Lutheran
Church) in Mason City from 1967 to 1969. She
then worked at the First State Bank of Thornton
from 1970 to 1990.
Church was always an important part of Gladys’
life and she was a member of Richland Lutheran
Church in Thornton and had been a member of the
Ladies Aide.
Gladys and Marvin would go to northern Minnesota
for fishing trips. Gladys greatly enjoyed
playing with her grandkids and her golden
retrievers.
Survivors include her two sons, Steven (Dawn)
Floy, of Rockwell and Timothy Floy, of Thornton;
grandchildren, Jennifer (Rob) Benson, of Mason
City, Matthew Floy, of Rockwell, Melissa,
Margaret and Jonathan Floy, all of Racine, Wis.;

Oxford, England. He died April 12, 1981.
She was a homemaker.

Mills; a daughter, Irene Eldridge and her
husband, Ernie, of England; a daughter-in-law,

August Stanley Carter was born Aug. 23, 1915, in
Williamsburg, Ky. to Matt and Nannie (Caddell)
Carter. He was the ninth of 11 children born to
his parents.
“Stan,” as he was fondly known by his family and
friends, was inducted into the United States
Army on Oct. 1, 1943, in Cincinnati, Ohio, and
served his country during World War II and the
Korean War, achieving the rank of sergeant.
After honorably and faithfully serving during
both wars, Stan was formally discharged from his
military duties on April 7, 1954, from Ft.
Sheridan, Ill.
Stan met his future wife, Dorothy Weston, in
Winterhaven, Calif., while Stan was in the
service and the couple was married on June 16,
1952 in Yuma, Ariz.
Together, they enjoyed dancing to all types of
music, playing games of chance at a variety of
casinos, and vegetable gardening. Stan and
Dorothy were particularly fond of the song, “The
Blue Skirt Waltz.”
Stan and Dorothy moved to Iowa to be near their
daughter, Dolores, and became the owners and

most recent employment was with Fiber Co. in
Clear Lake.
Stan was a member of Holy Family Catholic
Church, where he was proud to serve as an usher.
He also held memberships at the Greene V.F.W.
and American Legion.
Stan will be remembered by many in Rockford as
“the Turtle Man.” He had a passion for fishing
and capturing turtles from the Shell Rock River
and preparing baked turtle feeds for his family
and friends.
Some of Stan’s favorite leisure activities and
interests included cooking a wide variety of
foods and baking pies, especially pumpkin pies,
his championships with small animals, most
notably his pet dog, Jose, and collecting
animated and talking toys (such as talking
fish).
He was a faithful husband and very kind-hearted
man with a witty personality.
Stan treasured spending time with his wife and
his entire family and was devoted to his faith
and church.
Stan will be dearly missed by his family and
friends.
He is survived by his wife of nearly 52 years,
Dorothy Carter of Nora Springs; his
step-daughter, Dolores (Gerald) Marzen of Marble
Rock; his two sisters, Ora Clawson of Ohio and
Ruth (Frank) Siler of Florida; his
sister-in-law, Pearl Stevens of Winterhaven,
Calif.; his six grandchildren, Dennis (Sally)
Marzen, Vicki LaBianca, Michael (June) Marzen,
Anthony (Char) Marzen, Michelle Deverell and
Scott (Stacy) Marzen. He will also be sadly
missed by his 15 great-grandchildren, numerous
nieces and nephews and other relatives and
friends.
