www.fullertonfh.com Web site.
Walter Hart Johnson was born Nov. 11,
1927, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Walter
H. and Alice V. (Hopp) Johnson. He was
one of two sons born to his parents.
At the age of seven and following the
death of his father, Hart, his brother,
Duane and his mother, Alice, all moved
to Mason City.
A special family friend, Florence
Morrison, moved into the family home and
joined Alice in raising her two sons.
The boys always considered themselves
fortunate to have "two loving mothers."
Hart graduated from Mason City High
School in 1946.
Hart was inducted into the United States
Army on June 26, 1946, and served his
country during the Korean War. After
honorably and faithfully serving his
country, Hart was formally discharged
from his military duties.
Following his discharge from the Army,
he attended Mason City Junior College.
Hart met his future wife Leola (Tubby)
Sturm in Mason City and the couple
treasured their first date of dancing at
the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake.
Together, they continued to enjoy
dancing and going for long, evening
drives.
Hart was employed with Northwestern
Cement Company for 14 years. In 1966, he
started his own business, Johnson
Distributing Company, where he was an
entertainment (music and games) vendor.
In later years, Hart was a groundskeeper
involved with commercial and residential
lawn care.
Hart's love of the outdoors was evident
throughout his life. He enjoyed duck,
goose and pheasant hunting, trout
fishing, skeet and trap shooting and fur
trapping.
His friends fondly nicknamed him
"Waldo", as they too, had special
nicknames for one another.
Some of Hart's favorite leisure
activities and interests included
attending his children's and later, his
grandchildren's sports activities,
vacationing with his family and avidly
cheering for various sports teams,
especially the Mohawks and the Iowa
Hawkeyes.
In his younger years, Hart coached
Little League and Babe Ruth baseball
teams and coached his own sons for nine
years.
Hart's family recall that he was an
even-tempered and pleasant man with a
kind and giving nature. They remember
his unique way to speak in his own
special … "Hart Johnson English
Language."
Hart was a longtime member of the Mason
City and Ventura Gun Clubs and Ducks
Unlimited.
Hart will be sadly missed by his family
and friends who have shared in his life.
He is survived by his wife, Leola

Valley, Minn.; Heidi (Terry) Dolphin of
Cedar Rapids and Wendy Johnson of Mason
City; his three sons, Bill (Cathy)
