MARDELL ARJES

CLARKSVILLE - Funeral services for Mardell Arjes, 79, of 302 Washington South, Clarksville, will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 17, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville, with Pastor Norman Omodt officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Cemetery in Clarksville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Reid's Funeral Chapel in Greene and will continue on Monday one hour prior to services at the church.

Ruea Mardell Martin was born Aug. 21, 1919, in Clarksville, a daughter of Roy and Carma (Poisal) and died Thursday (May 13, 1999) at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minn.

At the age of four, her family moved to the house where she had lived her entire life. She received her education from the Clarksville public schools, graduating in 1936.

On June 30, 1940, she was united in marriage to August F. "Bud" Arjes at St. John's Parsonage in Clarksville by the Rev. Becker.

For 17 years, Mardell assisted her husband in his furniture business in Clarksville. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Clarksville and a member of various church circles there.

Mardell's interests included collecting dolls and music boxes and reading. She had a great love of animals. Mardell will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family very much.

Living family members include her loving husband of 59 years, Bud, of Clarksville; son and daughter-in-law, Rhon and Jo Arjes, of Clarksville; daughter-in-law, Jane Arjes of Redfield; five grandchildren, Stacy Countryman, Cara Dredge, Lindsay Wood, Kyle Burns and Seth Walter; three great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Countryman, Zach Dredge and Molly Dredge.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Tim, in 1952, and Terry, in 1994; and one sister, Vae Hardy, in 1977.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may direct memorials to the Mardell Arjes Memorial Fund for Community Projects in care of the family.

JESSE DIAZ

MASON CITY - Jesse Diaz, 70, of 828 Fifth St. S.W., died Friday (May 14, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at noon Tuesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, with the Rev. Carl Ries officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. Monday at Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Chapel, 123 Second St. S.E., with a parish scripture service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

ST. ANSGAR - Alice Kuntz, 86, died Friday (May 14, 1999) at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center, Osage.

HILDRETH TLACH

GARNER - Hildreth Tlach, 71, passed away Friday (April 14, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Duncan, with the Rev. John W. Hemann officiating. Burial will take place at St. John's Catholic Cemetery, Duncan.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, and one hour prior to services on Monday. A Rosary Society rosary will be recited at 5 p.m., and a scriptural wake service at 6 p.m. Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Kanawha, is in charge of arrangements.

Hildreth, the daughter of Frank and Mary Yezek Tlach, was born June 27, 1927, on her parents' farm near Britt. She attended country school and graduated from Garner High School. Following graduation, Hildreth attended St. Teresa College in Winona, Minn. She taught school in various communities in Iowa and Fairmont, Minn. She later retired from teaching to care for her mother.

Hildreth became a resident of Duncan Heights in 1989, and continued to reside there until 1996. She has been a resident of Concord Care Center in Garner for the past three years.

Hildreth was an avid bird watcher and loved flowers. She taught religion classes at St. Wencelaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Hildreth was also a Catholic Daughter member.

Hildreth is survived by many cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and brother, John.

MASON CITY - Vernon Leonard, 80, of 724 Eighth St. N.E., died Saturday (May 15, 1999) at his home.

CURTIS ERNEST JUMPP

CRYSTAL LAKE - Curtis Ernest Jumpp, 81, passed away Friday (May 14, 1999) at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Funeral services for Curtis will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, with Rev. Ken Suetterlin officiating. Burial will take place at Crystal Lake Cemetery. Full military graveside services will be conducted by the Crystal Lake American Legion.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the Ewing Funeral Chapel in Britt, and one hour prior to services on Monday.

Curtis, the son of Curtis E. and Mary Koontz Jumpp, was born on Dec. 7, 1917, at Indianapolis, Ind. Curtis graduated from high school in Indianapolis and then worked for a short time before entering the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Upon returning home, Curtis was united in marriage with Nodia Anderson on Aug. 24, 1943, in Clinton. Following the war, Curtis was employed at a creamery in Walker. In 1949, the family moved to Crystal Lake, where he was employed at the Farmers Bank and Trust Company. In 1982, he retired from the Manufacturer's Bank and Trust.

Curtis was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed traveling and learning the history of our country. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Crystal Lake, was a 32nd Degree Mason in the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the Shriners.

Curtis is survived by his wife, Nodia; his daughter, Paula and her husband, Dwayne Streeter, of Carmel, Ind.; a grandson, Chad; two sisters-in-law, Beulah Jumpp and Hazel Jumpp Corwin, both of Indianapolis; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Hershel, Robert and Donald; and one sister, Gertrude.

AARON P. DAHLBY

EMMONS - Aaron P. Dahlby, 83, died Saturday (May 15, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with the Rev. Steve Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

ELNA P. PRALLE

MASON CITY - Elna P. Pralle, 90, of 1037 19th St. S.W., died Thursday (May 13, 1999) at the I.O.O.F. Home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at St. James Lutheran Church, Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Coulter Cemetery, Coulter.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Monday.

The family suggests memorials to St. James Lutheran Church or the Elna P. Pralle Memorial Fund.

Elna was born March 19, 1909, in Coulter, the daughter of Peter and Anna (Petersen) Norgaard. She graduated from Coulter High School. She married Edward Pralle on Oct. 29, 1932, at Latimer. The Pralles farmed around the Alexander, Coulter and Hampton areas before moving to Mason City in 1959. She worked as a cook for Heritage Care Center in Mason City, retiring in 1976. Elna was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Do Days, quilted at St. James Lutheran Church, and enjoyed sewing and crocheting.

She is survived by a son, Robert D. Pralle and his wife, Carole, of Wolfeboro Falls, N.H.; a daughter, Marcia Buls and husband, Charles, of Guttenberg; and a son, Dean E. Pralle and his wife, Debbie, of Mason City; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; a son, Roger; two sisters, Helga and Agnes; and a brother in infancy.

RAYMOND JOSEPH HAUGLAND

BELMOND - Raymond Joseph Haugland, 87, passed away Thursday (May 13, 1999) at the Kanawha Community Home in Kanawha.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church, Belmond, with the Rev. James Carpenter officiating. Burial will take place at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Lime Creek Lutheran Cemetery, rural Emmons, Minn.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, Belmond, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Ray, the son of Helmer and Ingeborg Roa Haugland, was born May 7, 1912, in Leland. He grew up in north central Iowa, where he attended school through the eighth grade at the Haugland School near Leland. He, with his family, would later move to North Dakota.

Ray was united in marriage to Blanche G. Stene on Oct. 20, 1940, at the Lime Creek Lutheran Church. The couple lived in Lake Mills for a time before moving to Belmond in 1948. Blanche and Ray owned a Radio and Television Repair Shop in Lake Mills, and later in Belmond. A lifetime television repairman, Ray continued to work on antennas into his 80s. The couple "retired" from the television repair business in 1991, and moved into the Belmond Apartments. Ray loved to tinker and fix radios and television sets.

Ray has belonged to Trinity Lutheran Church since moving to Belmond. He was confirmed in Norwegian at the Winnebago Lutheran Church near Leland.

Ray is survived by one daughter, Diane Harris of Vinton; two sons, Bruce Haugland of Cedar Falls, and Paul Haugland of Belmond; five grandchildren, Amy, Scott, Matt, Maria and Chelsea; seven great-grandchildren, Henry, Zachary, Hannah, Skyler, Nick, Julia and Jordyn; two sisters, Hazel Moe and her husband, Leroy, of Lake Mills, and Eleanor Tweeten of St. Paul, Minn.; one brother, Adolph Haugland and his wife, Vernis, of Sparta, Wis.; and a step-sister, Olga Goudie of Maplewood, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Blanche, in 1995; and one brother, Kenneth.

ALICE PEDERSON

NORTHWOOD - Alice Pederson, 87, died Friday (May 14, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Allan Stoa and the Rev. Ron Feuerhak officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the church.

The family of Alice Pederson has requested that memorial contributions be made to the First Lutheran Church or to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, in her memory.

Conner Colonial Chapel, 99 11th St. S., Northwood, is in charge of the arrangements.

Alice Pederson was born on March 10, 1912, in rural Northwood, the daughter of Oscar and Emma Pederson. She was baptized in the London Deer Creek Lutheran Church, rural Glenville, Minn., and reaffirmed the faith of her baptism through confirmation at the Northwood Lutheran Church. She attended and received her education in the Northwood school system. Alice loved gardening, animals, reading and attending auctions.

She had been a resident of the Lutheran Retirement Home since 1993.

She was a member of the First Lutheran Church and the church circle in Northwood.

Left to cherish her memory are several cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, John Pederson.

CARL KLOSTER

LAKE MILLS - Funeral services for Carl Kloster will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre and the Rev. Roger Dykstra officiating.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, and one hour before the service at the church.

Carl J. Kloster, the son of John and Emily (Lyngas) Kloster, was born Feb. 11, 1920. He served in World War II for four years. Carl was united in marriage to Alvira Johnson Olson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua in 1964.

Carl passed away Saturday (May 15, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City. He was 79.

He is survived by his wife, Alvira, of Lake Mills; one step-daughter, Joan Kloster and her husband, Derald, of Leland; six grandchildren, Laura Farjood of Chicago, Chad Kloster of Leland, Mike Kloster of Mason City, Jane Greenfield of Ankeny, Christine Olson of Astin, Conn., and Robyn Hengestad of Lake Mills; eight great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles of Austin, Minn.; five sisters, Jorgina Peterson of Lake Mills, Inga Bolstad of Emmons, Minn., Olga Hermanson of Lake Mills, Martha Knutson of Northwood, and Anna Gunderson of Lake Mills.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Cora Thorson and Jeanette Ashpole; three brothers, Oliver, Art and Andrew; and one step-son, Ronald Olson.
