AGNES LOUISE HORVEI

LAKE MILLS - Agnes Louise Horvei, 79, of Minneapolis, formerly of Lake Mills, died Tuesday (June 8, 1999) at her home in Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills.

GLEN A. VEEDER

MASON CITY - Glen A. Veeder, 100, of 302 Second St. N.E., died Wednesday (June 9, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Health Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Kenneth Hatland of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home and until time of services on Saturday.

Memorials may be given to the Glen A. Veeder Memorial Fund.

Glen was born Nov. 12, 1898, in Belmond, the son of Fred C. and Matilda (Foss) Veeder.

Glen graduated from Belmond High School, attended the University of Iowa and trained for the Army ROTC. During World War I, Glen served with the Army ROTC and during World War II served the Army as an airplane mechanic.

He married Clarissa A. Abel on July 22, 1952, in Sioux Falls, S.D. She died in 1967. Glen would later marry Sade C. Jacobson in December of 1971, in Northwood.

Glen worked for American Crystal Sugar for 31 years. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, I.O.O.F. - where he served as Noble Grand - Elks Lodge and was union secretary at American Crystal Sugar.

Glen is survived by his stepdaughter-in-law, Bernice Abel, of Vestal, N.Y.; a nephew, Ted Veeder and his wife, Mary Lou, of Mason City; two nieces, Marie Thomas, of Laguna Hills, Calif., and Glenda Amen, of Antioch, Calif.

Glen was preceded in death by his parents, his first and second wives, four brothers, two stepsons, and one stepdaughter.

MERLE M. HORSWELL

ALBERT LEA, Minn. - Merle M. Horswell, 79, of Albert Lea, Minn., formerly of Waterloo, Wis., died Thursday (June 10, 1999) at the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minn.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 12, 1999, at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel in Lake Mills, with the Rev. Sara Beth Akre officiating. Burial will take place at the Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Salem Lutheran Church Chapel, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to services on Saturday morning at the church chapel.

Merle Merton Horswell was born Aug. 14, 1919, near Harris, in Osceola County, the son of John S. and Dindie V. (Johnson) Horswell. He attended school in Harris, graduating in 1937 as valedictorian of his class.

He was involved in farming at various locations in northern Iowa, including Fonda, Williams, Reinbeck and Thompson. In the late 1940s he made several improvements to potato harvesting equipment that dramatically increased yields and reduced the labor required to harvest crops.

He also worked for Farmers Lumber Company in Thompson, and Winnebago Industries in Forest City. He moved to Wisconsin in 1974, living first in Spring Green and later in Waterloo, Wis., working at farm-related jobs and with the Green Thumb program.

His hobbies included reading, gardening and raising pigeons for show. His gardens were noted for the beauty of their flowers. In early 1999, he moved to the Good Samaritan Center in Albert Lea, Minn. He passed away there on Thursday, June 10, 1999 at the age of 79 years.

Merle is survived by his children, Karla McDowell, of Dewey, Ariz., Paula Smith and her husband, Greg, of Stevens Point, Wis., Marilyn Leissler and her husband, Charlie, of Cherokee, Steven Horswell and his wife, Robyn, of Lake Mills, Sharon Piseski and her husband, Joe, of Forest City, Jackie McGrady and her husband, Jim, of Monterey, Tenn., and Phyllis Steinhart and her husband, Dan, of Emmons, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; as well as his brother, Eugene Horswell and his wife, Geraldine, of Albert Lea, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

DREW B. LENSING

OSCEOLA - Drew B. Lensing, 7, of 224 S. Kossuth St., Osceola, died unexpectedly Thursday (June 10, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center East, Mason City.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Charles City, with the Monsignor Walter Brunkan officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with a 7 p.m. vigil scriptural wake service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Monday at the church.

LUCILLE O'ROURKE

ROCKFORD - Lucille O'Rourke, 89, of 607 Second Ave. N.W., Rockford, died Thursday (June 10, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at Fullerton Schumburg Funeral Home, 302 W. Main, Rockford.
