** Gertrude H. Hoots

WATERLOO - Gertrude H. Hoots, 85, of Waterloo, formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1999) at Covenant Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., Mason City, with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in the Rockwell Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., and one hour prior to service time at the church.

Other funeral arrangements are incomplete at the funeral home.

** Alexander Gabel

HAMPTON - Alexander Gabel, 83, died Saturday (Jan. 30, 1999) at the Hampton Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton, with the Rev. Jon Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, Belmond.

Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alexander Gabel was born March 9, 1915, in Mason City.

Survivors include four sisters, Elizabeth Lepper of Belmond, Mary Stienwandt of San Lorenzo, Calif., Esther Cooper of Hampton, and Ann Shepard of Pontiac, Mich.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and one brother.

** Maxine Monroe

CHARLES CITY - Maxine Monroe, 73, died Sunday (Jan. 31, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Hauser Funeral Home with the Rev. John Smith of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church, Indianola, officiating. Burial will be in the Riverside Cemetery.

Friends may call from noon to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. until service time on Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to the John Monroe Junior Golf Classic which Maxine and John Sr. founded in 1968 for the youth of Charles City and the surrounding area.

Maxine Dorothy Cline Monroe was born Feb. 3, 1925, at Rockford.

Survivors include her husband, John Sr. of Charles City; two sons, John Jr. of Indianola, and Chris of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Gerrie Prickett of Indianola, and Ginny Lehmkuhl of Columbus, Neb.; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary Cline of Charles City, and Dale Cline of Webster City; and two sisters, Carole Stayner of Osage, and Mary Benedict of Garner.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and two brothers.

** Aleene B. Thompson

HAMPTON - Aleene B. Thompson, 95, died Sunday (Jan. 31, 1999) at the Sheffield Care Center, Sheffield.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

** Stephen J. Waite

BUFFALO CENTER - Stephen J. Waite, 86, died Friday (Jan. 29, 1999) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. James Cherry and the Rev. William Peake officiating. Interment will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the North Prairie Cemetery, Scarville.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

Stephen J. Waite was born Oct. 8, 1912, at Fort Dodge.

Survivors include his wife, Inga, of Buffalo Center; two sons, Richard and Jon, both of Paulsbo, Wash.; one daughter, Patricia Betten of New Hampton; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one brother, John Waite of Woodburn, Ore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

** Roseland Claude

CORWITH - Roseland Claude, 75, died Sunday (Jan. 31, 1999) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

** Ralph Lennie

MASON CITY - Ralph Lennie, 72, died Sunday (January 31, 1999) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
