HAZEL U. LUNDQUIST

MASON CITY - Hazel U. Lundquist, 92, of 501 South Kentucky, died Monday (Dec. 13, 1999) at Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania, Mason City, with the Rev. Will Hunsaker of the Open Bible Church, Clear Lake, officiating. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery.

Friends may call one hour prior to service time at the funeral home.

Hazel was born Feb. 7, 1907, in Norfolk, Neb., the daughter of Oscar L. and Violet (Weber) Sutton. She attended school in Michigan and was married to Arvid L. Lunquist on March 21, 1923, at Laurens.

They moved to Jewell in 1924 where they owned a grocery store for about three years. They then moved to Newton for two years before moving to Mason City in 1929.

Hazel was very much the family matriarch and devoted her whole life to her family. She enjoyed sewing for the blind commission for a number of years and enjoyed taking her family and friends out to eat often.

She is survived by a son, Keith D. Lundquist and his wife, Cathern, Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Miller and her husband, Charles, Mason City; five grandchildren, Rick Lundquist and his wife, Dixie, Clear Lake, Becky Hautanen and her husband, Dirk, Phoenix, Ariz., Shelly Syverson and her husband, Darryl, Strawberry Point, Barbara Rickert and her husband, Larry, Phoenix, Ariz., and Stephen Lundquist and his wife, Julie, Phoenix, Ariz.; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and faithful devoted Christian friends, Alice Pope, Mason City, and Rose Gaubitz, Mason City.

Hazel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arvid on Aug. 18, 1989, a son, Kenneth on Jan. 27, 1989, a sister, Cecil Sutton; and a brother, Lyle Sutton.

FRED (FRITZ) OSCAR HULSHIZER

NORTHWOOD - Fred (Fritz) Oscar Hulshizer, 88, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Otranto Community Church, Otranto, with David Schmidt officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

Fritz was born on Feb. 24, 1911, in Liscomb to Fred and Rosa (Aderhold) Hulshizer. He was confirmed at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

He married Clara O. Olson on Jan. 6, 1934. Fritz and Clara attended the Meltonville Methodist Church and after it closed, attended the Otranto Community Church.

They farmed in the Meltonville area all of their lives until retiring to Northwood in 1981.

After his retirement, Fritz returned to the farm many days until his began to fail. Fritz enjoyed his grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Fritz is survived by three sons, Eugene of Las Vegas, Nev., Ron and his wife, Marcia, of St. Ansgar, and Russell and his wife, Marlene, of St. Ansgar; a daughter-in-law, Marlene Hulshizer, of Northwood; a special friend, Ethel Luckason, of Northwood; two brothers, Harold and his wife, Dorothy, of Mauston, Wis., and Dale and his wife, Lois, of St. Charles, Minn.; 10 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Clara; a son, Gerald; a grandson, Scott; a sister, Esther; four brothers, Herb, Warren, Sylvester and Lawrence.

HELEN G. WILHITE

EAGLE GROVE -Helen G. Wilhite, 81, died Monday (Dec. 13, 1999) at Fort Dodge.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

CHARLES (CHUCK) BLOOM

ALGONA -Charles (Chuck) Bloom, 69, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at Algona Manor Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Chapel, Algona, with the Rev. Philip Webb officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.

RUSSELL A. HARMON

MANLY -Russell A. Harmon, 77, died Tuesday (Dec, 14, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Alf Merseth officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Northwood.

Russell was born on Oct. 2, 1922, in Lincoln Township, Worth County, to Luther and Laura (Bilsted) Harmon. He was baptized and confirmed in the First Shell Rock Lutheran Church, Northwood.

Russell lived and worked on area farms. He was also an insurance agent for Worth Mutual for several years.

He moved to Manly in 1984 and retired in 1990.

Russell is survived by one brother, Dr. Stanley and his wife, June, of Mankato, Minn.; one sister, Lois Meier and her husband, Donald, of Florida; several nieces and nephews; and his extended family, the Mannings of Manly and the Lows of Lake Mills.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, LeRoy and Obert; and a long-time friend, Syb Cooper.

BONNIE VARNUM

CORWITH - Bonnie Varnum, 94, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at Kanawha Community Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at United Methodist Church, Corwith. Burial will be in Corwith Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Corwith. An Eastern Star service by Algona Chapter No. 68 will begin at 7 p.m. at the funeral home today.

ELFREDA M. WHITTEN

ROWAN - Elfreda M. Whitten, 102, died Wednesday (Dec. 15, 1999) at the Belmond Community Hospital, Belmond.

Her body was cremated and a private inurnment service will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Rowan at a later date.

Memorials may be made to the Belmond Community Hospital or the United Church of Rowan.

Elfreda Myrtle Whitten was born on Nov. 28, 1897, the daughter of Walter H. and Addie A (Duffy) Whitten. After graduating from high school, she attended the Iowa State Teachers College where she received her teaching degree.

Elfreda went on to teach school for a few years, but she spent most of her adult working years doing clerical work at the Decker Packing Plant in Mason City.

She retired in Rowan where she had lived for the past 34 years. She was a member of the United Church of Rowan.

Survivors include her niece, Katherine Ihm, of Newton; two great-nieces, Carolyn DiMambro of Reading, Mass., and Marcia Kelly of Norwalk; and several cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Berneda M. Rietz.

WILLARD "BILL" H. WORMAN

GARNER - Willard "Bill" H. Worman, 80, died Wednesday (Dec. 15, 1999) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at United Methodist Church in Garner with the Rev. Kay Hooper officiating. Interment will be at Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner, and will resume one hour prior to services at the church Saturday.

STANLEY SAMPSON

GOLDFIELD - Stanley Sampson, 76, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at his home in Goldfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Lake Lutheran Church, Renwick, with the Rev. Sandra Krynik officiating.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 Friday at Willim Funeral Home in Eagle Grove with the family present from 4 to 7 p.m.

MARY LOUISE ROSLIEN

DES MOINES - Mary Louise Roslien, 84, formerly of Manly, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines as a result of injuries she sustained in a house fire in Des Moines.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 East Spring St., Manly, with the Rev. Paul Kelly of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the chapel. A public Order of the Eastern Star service will begin at 4:30 p.m. by the Heather Hill Chapter No. 493 O.E.S. of Manly. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time at the chapel Saturday.

Mary Louise Roslien was born on Nov. 22, 1915, in Iowa, the daughter of Earl and Amelia Williams. She received her education in the Manly school system, graduating from Manly High School.

She was united in marriage to Bennie Roslien on June 13, 1938, in Fort Dodge. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1979. Mary had been a resident of Manly until 1954 when she moved to Des Moines.

During her life she worked in the clerical department for NAPA Auto Parts store, and she also worked for many years at the State Capital in Des Moines in the Tax Revenue Department until her retirement.

She enjoyed bingo and eating out in restaurants.

Mary was a life member of the Heather Hill Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 493 in Manly and was a former member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Manly.

Left to cherish her memory is a special friend, Leo Zagnoli of Des Moines and several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bennie Roslien who died on June 9, 1979.

ANNA MARIE THOMAS

MASON CITY - Anna Marie Thomas, 103, of 4219 Kenyon, Little Rock, Ark., formerly of Mason City, died Monday (Dec. 13, 1999) at Little Rock Health Care and Rehabilitation Center, Little Rock.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City, with the Rev. Ray Corlew, Blue Grass, Iowa, officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Grace United Methodist Church in her memory.

Marie Thomas was born June 10, 1896, at York, Neb., the daughter of Henry and Augusta (Meyers) Schmitz.

Anna Marie was married to Harry L. Thomas on July 21, 1921, here in Mason City. They were married for 56 years. They lived in the Mason City area for 52 years. In 1973 they moved to Mesa, Ariz., and lived there for 14 years. Marie moved to Little Rock, Ark., in 1987.

She enjoyed camping, fishing and traveling with her husband. She was a former member of Grace United Methodist Church.

She is survived by five daughters, Helen Thomas Leigh, Little Rock, Ark., Eileen Schmidt, Milwaukee, Wis., Betty Stewart, Austin, Ark., Theada Bittner, Mason City, and Louise Lomax, Madera, Calif.; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry L. Thomas on June 7, 1977; an infant son; three brothers; and two sisters.

PETRA OLINE ANDERSEN

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Petra Oline Andersen, 93, formerly of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Dec. 14, 1999) at Mount Olivet Careview Home, Minneapolis.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs, with the Rev. Ruth Hansen officiating. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Nora Springs.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church Saturday.

Memorials may be directed to Mount Olivet Careview Homes, Minneapolis, Minn., or St. Luke Lutheran Church, Nora Springs.

Petra was born in 1906 in Denmark.

She is survived by her children, Lillian Carlson and her husband, Lester, Mary Lou Feld and her husband, Sylvester, and David Andersen and his wife, Elayne; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sven Andersen; three sisters; and brother.
