DALE DEVERE 'RED' OLSON

CLEAR LAKE - Dale Devere "Red" Olson, 74, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. today at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. The body has been cremated.

Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Dale Olson Memorial Fund.

Dale was born July 6, 1925, in Avoca, Wis., the son of John Olson and Hazel (Valley) Clark. He attended schools in Forest City and Clear Lake and served in the Coast Guard during World War II from 1943-1946. Dale married Joan Jodan on Aug. 17, 1946, in Clear Lake. He worked at Northern Natural Gas from 1946-1983.

Dale's hobbies and interests included painting, walking, traveling, music and visiting with friends and neighbors.

Dale is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Peggy Winsor and her husband, Al, Marty Olson, Lori Copley and her husband, Herb, and Julie Budd, all of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Mike and Ryan Roberts, Jaime and Kerri Copley, Nicole, Ashley, Dan Budd and Spencer Olson; great-grandchildren, Gage Roberts and Max Roberts; one sister, Floy Hershberger and her husband, Jim, of Okoboji; and several nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Richard Dale Olson, in 1987.

LAVERN W. STEINBACH

MASON CITY - LaVern W. Steinbach, 69, of 816 16th St. N.E., died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Ron Stein of First Baptist Church and the Rev. John Scheneman of First Assembly of God Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral chapel and will continue one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church.

LaVern Wilford Steinbach was born Nov. 24, 1929, in Des Moines, son of William and Lola A. (Champers) Steinbach. He married Sandy Lane on Aug. 29, 1992, in Clear Lake.

LaVern attended Des Moines schools. He worked for Crown Concrete in Des Moines, Altoona Ready Mix and drove for Yellow Cab in Des Moines and Mason City. He also worked for Mason City Wilbert Vault and North Iowa Vocational Center, and he drove school bus.

He loved animals, fishing, bowling and doing art craft work.

Survivors include his wife, Sandy Steinbach, of Mason City; three daughters, LaVonne Steinbach of Washington and Carrie Steinbach and JoEllen Steinbach, both of Mason City; two grandchildren; and one brother, Albert Steinbach, of Des Moines.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, James Allen Steinbach.

JOHN 'JACK' COYLE

MANLY - John "Jack" Coyle, 70, of Manly, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Manly.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. today at the Bride Colonial Chapel, 110 E. Spring St., with a scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a rosary to follow.

John "Jack" Victor Coyle was born March 28, 1929, in Mason City, the son of John and Grace (Nielsen) Coyle. He was educated in Catholic schools in Mason City and Manly. He received his GED in 1966. He also served in the Armed Forces from 1947 to 1949. Jack raced stock cars from 1949 to 1953.

On Feb. 10, 1953, he was united in marriage to Frances Schumacher at Albert Lea, Minn. Jack was a loving husband and father, and also a "Jack of All Trades," many times working several jobs to support his family. He was a mechanic, worked for farmers, drove trucks, drove highway PO and charter buses, managed fertilizer plants in Manly and Hanlontown, artificial inseminator, sold and constructed grain bins, and returned to driving trucks, retiring in 1991. After retirement, he kept busy with odd jobs, but especially enjoyed driving school bus part-time and visiting with the kids.

His hobbies were dancing, horses, snowmobiling, camping and enjoying his children and grandchildren. The past four winters were spent in Alamo, Texas.

He was a longtime member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Manly.

He is survived by his loving wife, Frances, of Manly; four daughters, Dee Ann Nilson and her husband, Howard, of Broken Bow, Neb., Kate Baumann and her husband, Steve, of Mason City, Mary Jo Baumann, of Manly, Ann Determan and her husband, Joe, of Mason City; three sons, John J. Coyle and Anita Hager, of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, Tom Coyle and his wife, Robin, of Manly, and Joe Coyle, of Manly; 12 grandchildren, Aaron Nilson and his wife, Sandy, of Springview, Neb., Wade Nilson and his wife, Wendy, of Holdridge, Neb., Jared and Kelsie Baumann, of Manly, Leah Coyle, of Mason City, Colton and John J. Coyle, of Couer D'Alene, Idaho, John, Sarah and Dylan Coyle, of Manly, and Ryan and Will Determan, of Mason City; four great-grandchildren; a special friend who is like a daughter, Joany Holmes and her husband, Tom, and their children, Blayne and Haley Holmes, of Plymouth; two sisters, Lois Hegtvedt and her husband, Edward, of Rockwell and Helen Hall and her husband, Jim, of Albuquerque, N.M.; one brother, Dean Coyle and his wife, Audrey, of Floyd; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Coyle.

HAMPTON - Dorothea Friederike Fink, 88, of Hampton, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at the Franklin General Nursing Facility, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, Hampton, with the Rev. Wayne Dobratz officiating. Burial will be in the Hampton Cemetery.

NASHUA - William J. "Bill" Smith, 72, of Nashua, died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Nashua. Burial will be in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Haven.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>DALLAS, Texas - Cletus F. Chizek, 93, of Dallas, Texas, died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) in Dallas, Texas.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>A memorial service was held Friday, Aug. 6, at the Basilica at Notre Dame University, South Bend, Ind.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>Cletus F. Chizek was born on July 19, 1906 in Clear Lake, to John J. Chizek and Barbara (Haege) Chizek.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>He attended Clear Lake Schools, graduating in 1923. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa and his master's degree in accounting from the University of Chicago.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>He married Mildred Mauck on July 9, 1933. They moved to South Bend, Ind. where Mr. Chizek became an accounting professor at the University of Notre Dame and also taught graduate classes at the University of Chicago. He retired as head of the Notre Dame accounting department in 1945. In 1942, Mr. Chizek partnered with Fred P. Crowe to create Crowe-Chizek and Company, a South Bend, Ind.- based accounting firm.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>He retired to Harlingen, Texas in 1972, and resided there until 1995, when he and his wife moved to Dallas to be closer to family.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>He served as secretary to the American Accounting Association and as a member of the Ethics Trial Board of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. Mr. Chizek also sat on the board for the St. Joseph Bank and Trust.

<*pl,0,1,1.3>Mr. Chizek is survived by his wife, Mildred, of Dallas, Texas; his daughter, Nancy Selby, of Dallas, Texas; his son, David Chizek M.D., of Excelsior, Minn.; grandchildren, Pam Selby, of Dallas, Texas, Susie Selby, of California, and Betsy Garner, of Dallas, Texas; three great-grandchildren, Selby Elizabeth More, Nicholas Moore and Kaity Moore, all of Dallas, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Richard (Anita) Peters, of DuQuoin, Ill.; and a cousin, Art Huber, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa.

HELEN FRANCES GALES ZOLNER

Helen Frances Gales was born Feb. 14, 1925, in Waterloo, a daughter of Francis Earl and Ella Marie (Stanton) Gales, and died Thursday (Aug. 5, 1999) at the Liebe Care Center in Greene.

She received her education and graduated from the Central High School and St. Joseph College of Nursing in Sioux City. She was employed at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Sioux City from 1946 to 1956. She then attended Mt. Carmel in Detroit where she received her anesthetist degree in 1958 and then returned to Sioux City where she was employed by St.Luke's Hospital.

On Sept. 25, 1976, she was united in marriage to James LeRoy Zolner in Sioux City. They made their home in Michigan where she was employed at the William Beaumont Hospital, in Royal Oaks until her retirement in 1990. She was past president of the Nurse Anesthetist Association of Iowa and a member of St. Hubert's Catholic Church in Higgins Lake, Mich.

Helen's interests included reading, archaeology, astronomy and traveling.

Living family members include her husband, James Zolner, of Houghton Lake, Mich.; three sisters and their spouses, Mary Fer, of Davenport, Ann and Gerald Poston, of Kansas City, Mo., and Frances and Walter Stanwood, of Woodstock, Ill.; one brother, William and his wife, Janice Gales, of Ankeny; 12 nieces and nephews whom she considered as her own children. Family members living in Greene include her aunt, Genevieve Stabenow; cousins, Evelyn Stabenow, Bernita Stanton, Charles Stanton, and Rita (Richard) Merfeld.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law, Richard Fer.

JACK PRATHER

MASON CITY - Jack Prather, 66, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Sun Bridge Health Care Center in the presence of his family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. A flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel and will resume on Tuesday until service time.

William John Prather was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Airshire, son of Howard and Mae (Prew) Prather. Jack was an Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War. He married Veronica Lichter on Dec. 27, 1954, in Varina.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were two of the things that he enjoyed very much along with training his hunting dogs, Joker, Rocket and Sam. The Vikings were his favorite team. Most of his career was spent as a truck driver hauling explosives.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica (Bonnie) Prather; three daughters and two sons, Kathy Bledsoe and her husband, Steve, Clear Lake, Mike Prather and his wife, Jean, Mason City, Susan Janssen and her husband, Mark, Nora Springs, Howard Prather of Mason City, and Jane Query of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Jennifer, Amy, John, Billie Sue and Nicholas; one great-grandchild, Shayla; three step-grandchildren, Crystal, Sarah and Emily; two step-great-grandchildren, Kijana and Riley; four sisters, Phyllis Henaman, Mason City, Pat McCarville and her husband, Ray, Mason City, Bernadine Rodemeyer and her husband, Kenny, Mason City, and Rose Mary Dick and her husband, Gayle, Milford; one brother-in-law, Jim Fountas, Mason City; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Geraldine Fountas; and his brother-in-law and good friend, Roy Henaman.

NOREEN M. MADSON

BRITT - Noreen M. Madson, 41, passed away Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Westview Care Center, Britt.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Britt, with the Rev. Marvin Bries officiating. Burial will be at St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery, Britt.

Visitition will begin after 4 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Home, Britt, and one hour prior to services at the church Monday. A parish wake service will be held at 7:30 p.m. today at Ewing Funeral Chapel.

Noreen, the daughter of Holger and Carol Menke Madson, was born in Killeen, Texas, on Nov. 8, 1957.

Noreen moved with her family to Britt in 1959. She was baptized and confirmed in the Roman Catholic faith. Noreen has resided at Westview Care Center for the past 18 years, where the staff became her extended family.

She is survived by her mother, Carol Madson; eight brothers and sisters, Chris of Britt, John and his wife, Amy, of Britt, Moni and her husband, Mike Muth, of Britt, Cari and her husband Keith Formanek, of Britt, Jean and her husband, Steve Miller, of Des Moines, Connie and her husband, Joe Keitel, of Muscatine, Cathy and her husband, John Weiland, of Britt, and Cindy and her husband, Mark Wehrle, of Wapello; maternal grandparents, Alfred and Amorita Menke of Bancroft; and 15 nieces and nephews.

Noreen was preceded in death by her father, Holger Madson, on Aug. 18, 1993, and her paternal grandparents.

Durward Clarence Smith was born June 7, 1915, in Mason City, son of Clarence J. and Viola (Stark) Smith. He married Ardith Blackwell on Sept. 22, 1935, in Mason City.

In 1950, he established Dewey Electric at Ventura, which he operated for 33 years, serving as president and chairman of the board. He was a member of the National Electric Contractors Association for 44 years, serving as a president and governor. He was also a member of the Academy of Electrical Contractors for 30 years and a member of IBEW for 64 years. He was a member of the Elks Lodge for 10 years.

Dewey was past vice president of NECA 7th District, a lifetime member of Ducks Unlimited, past president of North Iowa Ducks Unlimited, a lifetime member of Sheep Hunters Grand Slam Club, a past president of North Iowa Rod and Gun Club, part owner of Mason City Mohawk Gun Club with Dud Decker and was past president of the Association for the Preservation of Clear Lake.

Dewey enjoyed fishing and game hunting. He had a love for music, especially jazz and big band.

Dewey is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ardith; a son, Curt J. NORTHWOOD - Beulah Leone Cleveland, 92, a former Northwood resident, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Waunakee, Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the United Methodist Church in Northwood, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in St. Ansgar Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the church.

Beulah was born in St. Ansgar on Oct. 9, 1906, the daughter of LaForest and Ida (Albrecht) Sherman. She received her education in the St. Ansgar school system, graduating from St. Ansgar High School in 1924. She also attended Drake University in Des Moines and Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, where she received her degree in primary education. She taught kindergarten at Somers, Corwith and Manly.

She was united in marriage to Glenn Cleveland in 1928. In 1941 they moved to Northwood, where he was Worth County Superintendent of Schools until 1967. During their retirement, they enjoyed 20 years of shared travel experiences and wintering in Clearwater, Fla. After the death of her husband in 1986, she spent seven more winters in Florida.

Buelah moved to the Waunakee Manor in Waunakee, Wis., in 1993.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Northwood, 50-year member of the Northern Lights Chapter No. 262 of the Eastern Star. She was an avid reader and an excellent needle crafter until the time her vision failed.

Beulah was preceded in death by her mother in 1929; her father and her son, Richard, in 1948; her husband, Glenn, in 1986; and her sister, Lenore Moeller, in 1989.

Left to cherish her memory are one son, Robert Cleveland and his wife, Marilyn, of DeForest, Wis.; one brother, LaForest Sherman and his wife, Mary, of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Kim Franklin and her husband, Darryl, and children, Jericho and Nia, of Indianapolis, Ind., Richard Cleveland and his wife, Tami, and children, Tyler and Benjamin, of McFarland, Wis., and Kerry Roeske and her husband, Dan, and children, Danielle, Scott and Kristine, of Lancaster, Pa.; and many nieces and nephews.

Beulah was a dedicated and loving wife and mother. 1 Corinthians 2:9 says, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered in the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him."

Geraldine was born Nov. 7, 1899, at Clinton, Ill., the daughter of Charles Edward and Cora Estelle (King) Samuels. She was a high school graduate of Clinton, Ill., in 1919.

She was united in marriage to John Wright Sept. 20, 1920, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. After their marriage they lived in Osage a short time and then moved to Farley. In 1925 the family moved to Orchard, where they resided 17 years before moving to St. Ansgar. She provided a home of love and friendship to her family and many friends.

Geraldine was a charter member at the Orchard American Legion and continued her membership in St. Ansgar for a total of 74 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in St. Ansgar and active in the United Methodist Women's Society.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister.

Geraldine is survived by her children, Geraldine Piper of St. Ansgar, Dorothy Neeley of State Center, Jack Wright of Pittsburg, Calif., and Brenda Currier and her husband, Owen, of Mason City; eight grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Kenzy Lee Korte, the son of Henry and Berdine (Greenfield) Korte, was born Nov. 19, 1933, at Woden. He attended school at Titonka.

On March 6, 1955, he married Violet Baade at Good Hope Lutheran Church at Titonka. They farmed near Woden until 1987, when they moved to town.

Kenzy was a retired farmer who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life such as bird watching, raising all varieties of roses, collecting hats, country western music (especially George Jones) and being a grandpa.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife, Violet, of Woden; a daughter, Sharla Wellik and her husband, Roger, of Forest City and their children, Joshua, Rachel and Daniel; two sons, Joea Korte and his wife, Barbara, of Woden and their children, Rick, Macie, Tanner, Brandon and Logan; and Jeffrey Korte and his wife, Diane, of Forest City and their children, Tom, Angie, Kristi and Jeremy; a great-grandchild; a sister, Patsy Jenkins and her husband, Dennis, of Folsom, Calif.; a brother, Merle Korte and his wife, Barbara, of Littleton, Colo.; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry and Gladys Baade, of Titonka; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Korte of Alburquerque, N. MASON CITY - Jack Prather, 66, of 649 14th St. NE, died Friday (Aug. 6, 1999) at Sun Bridge Health Care Center in the presence of his family.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. NE, Mason City, with the Rev. Dennis Cahill of Holy Family Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City. A flag-folding ceremony will be conducted by the Mason City Veterans Association.

William John Prather was born Jan. 16, 1933, in Ayrshire, son of Howard and Mae (Prew) Prather. Jack was an Air Force veteran and served during the Korean War. He married Veronica Lichter on Dec. 27, 1954, in Varina.

Jack was an avid outdoorsman. Hunting and fishing were two of the things that he enjoyed very much along with training his hunting dogs, Joker, Rocket and Sam. The Vikings were his favorite team. Most of his career was spent as a truck driver hauling explosives.

Survivors include his wife, Veronica (Bonnie) Prather; three daughters and two sons, Kathy Bledsoe and her husband, Steve, Clear Lake, Mike Prather and his wife, Jean, Mason City, Susan Janssen and her husband, Mark, Nora Springs, Howard Prather of Mason City, and Jane Query of Mason City; seven grandchildren, Jessica, Brandon, Jennifer, Amy, John, Billie Sue and Nicholas; one great-grandchild, Shayla; three step-grandchildren, Crystal, Sarah and Emily; two step-great-grandchildren, Kijana and Riley; four sisters, Phyllis Henaman, Mason City, Pat McCarville and her husband, Ray, Mason City, Bernadine Rodemeyer and her husband, Kenny, Mason City, and Rose Mary Dick and her husband, Gaylen, Milford; one brother-in-law, Jim Fountas, Mason City; and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews.

MASON CITY - Dr. Shivaram T. Shetty died Sunday (Aug. 8, 1999) at his home.

While family services were conducted on Sunday, a public remembrance will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mercy Medical Center (South Lobby). All are invited.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be provided to the Dr. S. T. Shetty Memorial Fund in care of Mason City Clinic.

Shivaram Shetty was born March 17, 1939, in the village of Sringeri in southwestern India, the third of six children. He married Premaleela B. Hegde on June 20, 1962. After graduating from Mysore Medical College, Dr. Shetty came to the United States for postgraduate training in internal medicine and cardiology.

In 1972, after spending five years in Ohio completing his medical internship, residency and fellowship programs, Dr. Shetty came to Mason City with his wife and two young children. For the next 25 years, Dr. Shetty practiced medicine in the North Iowa area, first as a member of the Park Clinic and later the Mason City Clinic.

During his career, Dr. Shetty has served as president of the Park Clinic, president of the Medical Staff of North Iowa Medical Center, and a board member of Good Shepherd Nursing Home. He was also a member of the American College of Physicians, Royal College of Physicians, Cerro Gordo County Medical Association, Iowa Medical Society and the American Medical Association.

He is survived by his wife, Prema Shetty, of Mason City; two children, Baba Shetty and his wife, Lisa, of Glen Rock, N. J., and Brinda Shetty of Cedar Falls; and one granddaughter, Paige Sharada Shetty.

FRANK J. RASSMUSSEN

WESLEY - The Rite of Christian Burial for Frank Rasmussen of Independence, Mo., formerly of Britt and Wesley, Iowa, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Wesley, with the Rev. John Cain as the celebrant. Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery at Wesley.

Honorary pallbearers will be siblings, Don, Dwight, Paul, Sam and John Rasmussen and Ann Murphy.

Frank Jerome Rasmussen was born Oct. 13, 1954, in Algona, Iowa, to Forrest and Blanche Rasmussen. He passed away Saturday (Aug. 7, 1999) at the Regional Health Center at Independence, Mo.

Frank attended St. Joseph's Elementary School of Wesley and graduated from Corwith-Wesley High School. He attended the Iowa Commission for the Blind School in Des Moines. Frank's employment included several years at St. Benedict Locker. He also owned and operated a gun shop in Britt and "Bargain Babe's" used clothing store in Independence, Mo.

Frank was a loving, devoted father to his daughters. Many who have worked with him share just how generous he was. He was a happy-go-lucky man who never complained about his many sufferings - he always saw the positives. He maintained a constant faith and identity with Jesus' suffering. After experiencing many years of complications of diabetes, his death was caused by a massive stroke.

Frank is survived by his two daughters, Mary, age 12, and Sara, age 8; parents, Forrest and Blanche Rasmussen, of Wesley; and siblings, Donald and his wife, Eulinda, of Britt, Dwight and his wife, Ruth, of Wesley, Debra Studer and her husband, Mike, of Wesley, Paul and his wife, Linda, of Corwith, Samuel and his wife, Nancy, of Corwith, John and his wife, Dawn, of Wesley, and Ann Murphy and her husband, Jack, of Virginia Beach, Va. Also surviving are 24 nieces and nephews and one great-niece.

Frank was preceded in death by his grandparents and one nephew, Andrew Rasmussen.

BUFFALO CENTER - Cory D. Murra, 21, of Buffalo Center, died Sunday (Aug. 8, 1999) near Titonka in an airplane accident.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with the Rev. Bill Peake officiating. Burial will be in Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, 414 First St. N.W., Buffalo Center.

Cory Douglas Murra was born in Blue Earth, Minn., to Douglas and Barbara (Bowers) Murra on Nov. 27, 1977. He was baptized at Ramsey Reformed Church and confirmed at First Reformed Church in 1994.

Cory was an active little boy with a creative imagination.

He attended the Buffalo Center Community School and Titonka Middle School and graduated from North Iowa High School with the class of 1996.

Cory was active and won state honors with the FFA. In high school, he entered the work study program at Main Equipment in Buffalo Center. After graduation, he entered Northeast Iowa Community College at Calmar for a two-year John Deere technical program. Cory also enjoyed restoring old John Deere tractors.

At this time, Cory took on a part-time job at the Decorah Airport. Cory loved his job and worked hard to get his pilots license and the training it took to become a pilot. He loved flying everything from remote-control model planes to the Citaborea that he was flying Sunday afternoon. Cory could not get enough of flying.

In March of this year, Cory became the shop manager at the Owatonna Airport. He talked highly of his job and could not wait to do more.

He leaves to mourn his mom and dad, Doug and Barb Murra, of Buffalo Center; a brother, Joshua, and a sister, Alicea, both at home; his maternal grandparents, Darvin and Ronna Bowers, of Titonka; his paternal grandmother, Gertrude Murra, of Buffalo Center; his great-grandfather, "Opa" Ben Siehlmann, of Titonka; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandpa, Bill Murra; and when Cory was seven, he lost his best friend and brother, Kevin, in a farm-related accident.
