ROCKFORD - Judith Marie Andersen, 50, died Saturday (July 31, 1999) at her home.

ANNIE ELLEN (RASMUSSEN) LARSEN


ST. ANSGAR - Annie Ellen (Rasmussen) Larsen, 95, died Thursday (July 29, 1999) at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery, Albert Lea, Minn.

Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday at the church.

Annie E. (Rasmussen) Larsen was born in Worth County, on Dec. 20, 1903, to Peter and Ida (White) Rasmussen. She received her education at Deer Creek No. 6 school.

On Dec. 26, 1928, she married Carl M. Christensen in Northwood. They made their home in Albert Lea. Carl passed away in 1964. On April 9, 1967, she married Emil Larsen. He passed away in 1969.

Annie moved to St. Ansgar in July, 1970. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church. Annie was a member of the St. Ansgar Senior Citizens Club for a number of years, and was named the Outstanding Senior Citizen of Mitchell County in 1980.

Survivors include one daughter, Ida DeWald of Phoenix, Ariz.; one step-daughter, Marcella Peterson and husband, Perry, of St. Charles, Minn.; one step-daughter-in-law, Helen Larsen of Austin, Minn.; one brother, John Rasmussen and wife, Evelyn, of St. Ansgar; one sister, Emma Skjeveland of St. Ansgar; several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Annie was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; three brothers, Louie, Arthur and Peter; seven sisters, Mary, Louise, Lilly, Katie, Ida, Florence and Esther; son-in-law, James DeWald; and one step-son, Burnett Larsen.

HAROLD MILLER JORGENSEN


HAMPTON - Harold Miller Jorgensen, 82, died Friday (July 30, 1999) at the Scenic Manor Care Center, Iowa Falls.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home.

CHARLES CITY - Loan Krumlinde, 73, died Friday (July 30, 1999) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jack Ivey of the First Congregational Church, officiating. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens.

Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Hauser Funeral Home, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

MASON CITY - Luda H. Nelson, 100, died Friday (July 30, 1999) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Officiating will be Elders Cliff Hagman and Fanny Hansen of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Clear Lake. BLANCHE JUDD

MASON CITY - Blanche Eugenia Judd, 98, of 25 N. Willowgreen Court, died Saturday (July 31, 1999) at the Good Shepherd Health Center. There will be a private family service with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the First Presbyterian Church, Mason City.

Blanche was born Jan. 30, 1901, to Dr. Carl and Emma (Carlson) Anderson in St. James, Minn. She graduated from St. James High School and attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minn. She then worked in Minneapolis, where she met her husband, Maurice (Mickey) Dale Judd. They were married in 1925, at St. James, Minn. They moved to Mason City in 1934, where Mr. Judd was president of Mason City Brick and Tile Co. and Rolfe Products Co. He died in 1956.

In mid-life, Blanche pursued her interest in drawing and painting, studying at the Tucson Watercolor Guild, University of Arizona, and in Florence, Italy.

She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Chapter IY PEO, Novel Club and UGL Club.

She is survived by her three children, Roger Judd and his wife, Janice, Fairbury, Neb., Stanley Judd and his wife, Sally, Fairbury, Neb., and Sally Judd Waggoner and her husband, Tom, Mason City; 11 grandchildren, Paul Judd of Fairbury, Neb., Cynthia Martinez of Lincoln, Neb., Mickey Judd of Lincoln, Neb., Mary Stapules of Fairbury, Neb., Christine Sipple, New York, NY, Brick Sipple of Tallahassee, Fla., David Judd of Pomona, Kan., Gary Judd of Parksville, Mo., Nancy Judd of Scottsdale, Ariz., Karl Waggoner of Austin, Texas, and Jean Nicholas of Bettendorf; and 15 great-grandchildren, Sarah and Laura Judd, Nathanial and Natalie Stapules, all of Fairbury, Neb., Aaron and Corey Martinez of Lincoln, Neb., Derek and Sean Judd of Parksville, Mo., Nicholas and Brent Judd of Pomona, Kan., Nicole, Steven and Kyle Nicholas of Bettendorf, and Kathryn and Karaline Waggoner of Austin, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Emmanuel, in childhood; three sisters, Berda Eleanor Higgins, Harriet Solheim, and Margrethe Nordgaard; her husband; an infant grandson, Steven Thomas Waggoner; and one great-grandson, Nicholas Stapules.

LUDA H. NELSON

MASON CITY - Mrs. John "Luda H." Nelson, 100, died Friday evening (July 30, 1999) at the Heritage Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Fullerton Patterson James Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E. Officiating will be Elders Cliff Hagman and Fanny Hansen of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Clear Lake. Burial will be in the Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, Mason City.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 3 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Luda Nelson Memorial Fund.

Luda was born on May 27, 1899, near Web, Iowa, in Clay county. She was the daughter of Henry and Luda E. (Cook) Smith. She attended school at Mason City High School and then graduated from Hamilton Business College with a secretarial degree. She then worked at the Milwaukee Railroad freight depot for several years until she was united in marriage to John Allen Nelson on Sept. 19, 1920, in Mason City. She then spent her time raising her family for a short time with her husband in Flint, Mich., before returning to Mason City.

During World War II she worked again for the Milwaukee Railroad in the ticket office from 1942-1947. She was active with the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Clear Lake, and she was also past president of the Garfield School PTA. She enjoyed reading good books, which included her well worn Bible, embroidery and quilting, and working in her one acre flower and vegetable garden. She loved cooking for family and friends.

Luda and a friend would take the Milwaukee Line to Charles City to take piano lessons, and during her early years she shared her gift of music playing the saxophone, organ and piano for her church and for silent movies. She stayed active in her later years by being an in-home volunteer, and was involved with the bazaars at Heritage Care Center, where she received a diploma for her assistance.

Those thankful in sharing Luda's long life include her three daughters, Elaine and her husband, Nyhus, Zell and her husband, Weston Cottrell, all of Mason City, and Juanita and her husband, Edward Murrill, Fort Wayne, Ind.; seven grandchildren, Leslie Rish, David and his wife, Carrie Rish, Lannette and her husband, George Calhoun, Mark and his wife, Jennifer Cottrell, Renee and her husband, Bob White, Tom and his wife, Marty Murrill, and Neal and his wife, Sherrie Murrill; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John in 1964; one daughter, Dorothy Huebner in 1982; and one infant sister, Marguerite.

EVELYN I. BAHNSEN

PANORA - Evelyn I. Bahnsen, 85, died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) at the Panora Nursing and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Old Stone United Methodist Church, Rock Falls. Burial will be in the Rock Falls Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be held from 1 p.m. until time of service at the church on Wednesday. The Beidelman Funeral Home, Panora, is in charge of arrangements.

Evelyn I. Bahnsen was born in Cerro Gordo County. She had lived in Panora, Des Moines, Waterloo, Ventura and Rock Falls. She was last employed as a retail sales clerk at the Kimball Ave. Pharmacy in Waterloo.

She is survived by three daughters, Ann Jones of Panora, Mary Jo Lewis of Michigan, and Sheryl Vetter of Stevens Point, Wis.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, John Schnartz.

VIRGIL (JIGGS) DUREGGER

CLEAR LAKE - Virgil (Jiggs) Duregger, 81, of 5435 S. Shore Drive, died Saturday (July 31, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center.

Funeral services are tentatively set for 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church.

ALGONA - Howard Hentges, 72, died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) at University Hospitals, Iowa City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona. A parish rosary will begin at 5 p.m. and parish prayer service at 7:30 p.m.

VIRGIL CLAIRE 'JIGGS' DUREGGER

CLEAR LAKE - Virgil Claire "Jiggs" Duregger, 81, of 5435 S. Shore Dr., Clear Lake, passed away Saturday (July 31, 1999) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church, 112 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Kermit Roisen officiating. Burial will be in the Clear Lake Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake.

The family suggests memorials may be made to the Virgil (Jiggs) Duregger Memorial Fund.

Virgil was born May 22, 1918, in Stanhope, Iowa. In 1930, Virgil and his family moved to Clear Lake, where he attended Eden Independent School. Virgil then began working for Perkins Dairy, Clear Lake.

On Aug. 20, 1939, Virgil married Thelma Spilman. The two began a family and continued to work in the Clear Lake area. Virgil was employed by Secory Plumbing and E.M. Dusenberg before starting his own repair shop in 1959 at Oakwood Park. Virgil also worked with K & B Potato Farms and Fulton Brothers Plumbing prior to his retirement in the mid-1970s.

In his free time, Virgil enjoyed serving as a handyman at his son Steve's bicycle shop, wood-working, fishing, camping, bird-watching and his three grandchildren.

Virgil is survived by his wife of 59 years, Thelma, of Clear Lake; his children, Sam Duregger, of North Glen, Colo., Steve Duregger and his wife, Deb, of Clear Lake, and Anne Cooper and her husband, Dennis, of Clear Lake; three grandchildren, Paul and Allison Cooper and Stephanie Duregger; five brothers, Fred, of New Port News, Va., Robert, of Newton, Conn., Leo (Bud), of Clear Lake, Ed (Junior) of Garner, and Larry, of Orlando, Fla.; three sisters, Gladys Henn, of Sheffield, Helen Sorenson, of Alden, and Irene Sorenson, of Castro Valley, Calif.; and Russell Rayburn, whom he loved as a son.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Alice (Hoffman) Duregger; two brothers, Al and Donald; and two sisters, Ida Mae Hill and Mary Avery.

WILLIAM A. DUGAN

CHARLES CITY - William A. "Bill" Dugan, 63, of 1005 Freeman St., died Sunday (Aug. 1, 1999) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, U.S. Highway 18 and Clark Street, Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, with a graveside flag presentation conducted by the Charles City Ceremonial Unit.

Visitation will be held from 2:30 to 9 p.m. today at the Fullerton Hage Funeral Home, 401 Blunt St., Charles City, with a rosary at 3 p.m. by St. Jude's Circle and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.

CORA RUTH HALVORSEN

NORTHWOOD - Cora Ruth Halvorsen, 98, of Northwood, died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Bethany Lutheran Church, Kensett, with the Rev. Selmer G. Hernes officiating. Burial will be in the Kensett Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from noon until time of services on Wednesday at the church.

GARY STEPHEN GILL

WEST DES MOINES - Gary Stephen Gill, 68, of 1800 Grand Ave., No. 351, died July 13, 1999 at Hospice Kavanagh House. He died of melanoma and the body was donated to the University of Osteopathic Medicine and Health Sciences.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 16, 1999 at St. Theresa's Community Center. Arrangements were made by Westover Funeral Home, Des Moines.

Gary was born in Kensett on April 1, 1931, to Stephen and Vera (Fent) Gill. He attended and graduated from Kensett High School in 1949.

He married Arlene Rivedahl of Mason City on April 11, 1955, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Mason City.

He attended the State College of Iowa and then graduated from Iowa State University.

He was assistant attorney general for the state of Iowa from 1959 to 1962 and secretary to the Governor's Executive Council from 1963 to 1964. He was also adjunct professor of political science at Drake University from 1960 to 1963. He had a private law practice from 1963 until he retired in 1991. He had also been a volunteer at Hospice Kavanagh House, past president of Windsor Heights Little League and an Army veteran of the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; a son, Gary and his wife, Karol, of San Antonio, Texas; five daughters, Cheryl Gill, of La Crosse, Wis., Lori Liljedahl and her husband, Ken, of Des Moines, Valerie Gill, of Des Moines, Renee Johnson and her husband, Steve, of Onalaska, Wis., and Melanie Hansman and her husband, Frank, of Des Moines; and nine grandchildren. He also had four sisters, Patricia Fandel and her husband, John, of Golden, Colo., Rosalie Olson and her husband, Paul, of Mason City, Bonita Kral and her husband, Roger, of Glenville, Minn., and Sandra Anderson and her husband, Wayne, of Athelstade, Wis.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Iowa.

NEW HAMPTON - Lawrence Pitzenberger, 91, of New Hampton, died Friday (July 30, 1999) at New Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. today at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, New Hampton. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, New Hampton.

Visitation was held Monday at Larkin-Martin-Hugeback Funeral Home, New Hampton, with a 4 p.m. Rosary and a 7:30 p.m. Scripture service. There will be additional visitation one hour prior to services at the church.

DR. LAWRENCE M. FORLAND

NORTHWOOD - Dr. Lawrence M. Forland, 82, of Northwood, died Saturday (July 31, 1999) at the Muse Norris Hospice-Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Lutheran Church, Northwood, with the Rev. Paul Holmer officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the First Lutheran Church, Northwood, and will continue for one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Conner Colonial Chapel, Northwood, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be given to the First Lutheran Church, the Lutheran Retirement Home, Northwood, or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Lawrence M. Forland was born Dec. 25, 1916, near Geneva, Minn., the son of Mandius and Bertha (Anderson) Forland.

The family moved to a farm near Leland and later to the Manly area where he attended grade school and graduated from Manly High School in 1934. He joined the Civilian Conservation Corps for two years and enrolled at Iowa State Veterinary College, graduating in 1941. Following graduation, he began his practice in Northwood.

On Oct. 24, 1941, he was united in marriage to Valborg Loberg at Silver Lake Lutheran Church. They lived in Northwood until 1958, when they moved to a farm near Joice. They moved back to Northwood in 1993.

Dr. Forland enjoyed photography, reading and raising his purebred Angus cattle.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church, Northwood, for 57 years, Masonic Lodge, Northern Lights No. 266, Upper Iowa Veterinary Medical Association, AVMA and IVMA. He served on the Northwood School Board for four years.

He was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather to his wife, Valborg Forland, of Northwood; his four children, Barbara Neils and her husband, Ted, of Bloomington, Minn., LaVonne Welch and her husband, John, of Mason City, Steven Forland and his wife, Lonnie, of Northwood, and Christine Moore, of Fort Collins, Colo.; his six grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband, Jeff Christ, of Duluth, Minn., Andrew and his fiancee, Amy Shriver, of Iowa City, Amanda, Tom and Lauren Neils, of Bloomington, Minn., and Chad Forland, of Emmons, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Matilda; brothers-in-law, Robert Jorgensen and Ivan Reindl; and one granddaughter, Carrie Forland.

VELMAJEAN ROBERTS

ST. ANSGAR - Velmajean Roberts, 70, of St. Ansgar, died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at the Methodist Hospital, in Rochester.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Mona Lutheran Church in Mona, with the Rev. Lydia Mittag officiating. Interment will be at Woodbury Cemetery, Lyle.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Worlein Funeral Home, 1801 Northwest Fourth St., Austin, Minn. and one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Casket bearers will be Jeffrey Whalen, Steven Thome, Bradley Mayer, Darrell Thome, James Roberts, Craig Whalen, Todd Blood, Bryan Mayer and Jonathan Roberts.

Velmajean Roberts was born Nov. 15, 1928, in London Township, Mower County, Minn., to John and Emma (Scheffel) Kvale.

Velmajean attended Ames Country School in London Township and graduated from Austin High School in 1946.

She married LuVerne Roberts on Nov. 19, 1946, at London Lutheran Church. They farmed in London Township and then moved to Mitchell County, where they farmed for 48 years.

Velmajean was a member of the Mona Lutheran Church. Velmajean was also active in the Woodbury Willing Workers. She enjoyed quilting for church and her family, gardening, reading and puzzles and loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, LuVerne, of St. Ansgar; three daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and John Mickelson, of Faribault, Minn., Karen and Donald Whalen, of St. Ansgar, and Linda and Terry Mayer, of St. Ansgar; son and daughter-in-law, Dale and Kathy Roberts, of Rockwell; 16 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

She was an avid hockey and sports fan. She had a compassion for animals.

MASON CITY - Theresa Ann Farrington, 58, of 325 S. Carolina Ave., died Monday (Aug. 2, 1999) at her home.

Theresa Ann Farrington was born April 13, 1941, in rural Floyd County, daughter of Daniel and Mabel (Osier) Koenigsfeld.

Theresa grew up on a farm near Marble Rock. She and her family moved to Mason City in 1951 and she graduated from St. Joseph Catholic High School in 1959.

She married Michael J. Farrington on April 15, 1967.

Theresa worked at Northern Life Insurance Company as a secretary for a short time. She enjoyed her vegetable and flower garden, cooking and traveling. She was an avid sports fan - enjoying the Hawkeyes and especially the Cubs.

She loved gathering her family together and she was the nurturer of her many nieces and nephews. Her good companion was her poodle, Chelsie.

Theresa was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and St. Cecilia Circle. She was a member of the "500 card club" for 32 years.

Survivors include her husband, Michael J. Marlin Gene Bistline was born Dec. 16, 1934, in Mason City, son of Paul and Fleta (Tibbits) Bistline. He grew up in the Rudd and Osage area and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953.

Marlin was a self-employed trucker, retiring because of his illness. He loved to put puzzles together and spend time with his family, especially his nieces and nephews.

Survivors include two sisters, Marilyn McDonald and her husband, Dale, of McCleansburg, Ill., and Ardelys Newton and her husband, Neil, of Osage; one brother, Larry Bistline and his wife, Pat, of Runnells; nine nieces and nephews; and 17 great-nieces and great-nephews.

Bernita Wilhelmina Schrage was born Sept. 3, 1929 on the Schrage family farm in West Point Township, Butler County, a daughter of William Henry and Wilhelmina (Jackel) Schrage, and died Tuesday (Aug. 3, 1999) at her home in rural Allison.

She received her education at the Prange Country School in West Point Township and as a young lady helped out at home taking care of her mother and father.

On Nov. 4, 1951, she was united in marriage to Donald LuVerne Davis at the Little Brown Church in Nashua.

Her interests included reading, doing puzzle books, tending to her garden and flower beds, going for rides looking at the country side and visiting with her neighbors and friends. She received much joy talking and bragging about her grandchildren.

Living family members include her daughter, Charlotte Davis, of Allison; two sons, Henry Joe Davis, of Tacoma, Wash. and LuVerne Allan and his wife, Edna Davis, now serving with the United States Navy in Yokosuka, Japan; three grandchildren, Lloyd, William, Rashell Ann and Matthew Ryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

RALPH LARSON

RAKE - Funeral services for Ralph Larson, 83, will be 11 a.m. Saturday (Aug. 7, 1999) at Zion Lutheran Church, Rake, with Dr. Jennifer Edinger officiating. Burial will be in East Cemetery, Rake.

Ralph Byron Larson, son of Gunner and Christine (Erdahl) Larson, was born Nov. 9, 1915, in Monticello, Minn.

He was baptized and confirmed at Silver Creek Lutheran Church in Monticello. He attended country school and graduated from Monticello High School with the Class of 1933.

On Nov. 9, 1938, he was united in marriage to Josephine Hodson. Ralph was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Rake for 57 years. Ralph served as a deacon for 12 years, taught Sunday School, was president for two years and on the board of education for six years. Ralph was sexton for the cemeteries of Rake for 30 years. He served as board member on the Iowa Council of Government for six years. Ralph was a farmer and also spent much time volunteering for various activities. In 1990, he was nominated Outstanding Senior Citizen of Winnebago County.

Ralph passed away Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine, of Rake; two sons, Gordon and his wife, Jeanne Larson, of Sturgeon Lake, Minn. and Paul Larson, of Rake; two daughters, Beverly and her husband, Loran Mathison, of Fairmont, Minn., and Dorothy and her husband, Peter Linn, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; five grandsons; five great-grandsons; a sister, Ardys Hubred; and three sisters-in-law, Hazel Larson, Bernedine Larson and Adelaide Larson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, six sisters and a son-in-law, John Murray.

DALE DEVERE 'RED' OLSON

CLEAR LAKE - Dale Devere "Red" Olson, 74, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Aug. 4, 1999) at his home. Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Clear Lake Cemetery, with the Rev. Dennis Ganz officiating. The body has been cremated.

Dale was born July 6, 1925, in Avoca, Wis., the son of John and Hazel (Valley Clark) Olson. He attended schools in Forest City and Clear Lake. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II from 1943-1946. He married Joan Jodan on Aug. 17, 1946, in Clear Lake. He worked at Northern Natural Gas from 1946-1983.

Dale's hobbies and interests included painting, walking, traveling, music and visiting with friends and neighbors.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Peggy Winsor and her husband, Al, Marty Olson, Lori Copley and her husband, Herb, and Julie Budd, all of Clear Lake; grandchildren, Mike and Ryan Roberts, Jamie and Kerri Copley, Nicole, Ashley, Dan Budd and Spencer Olson; great-grandchildren, Gage Roberts and Max Roberts; one sister, Floy Hershberger and her husband, Jim, of Okoboji; and several nieces and nephews.

GARNER - Rose M. Young, 91, passed away Tuesday (Aug. 3, 1999) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Rose Marie Young, the daughter of Joseph and Louise (Byers) Klesel, was born March 3, 1908, on a farm northeast of Garner. She attended rural schools in Concord Township in Hancock County.

On Oct. 4, 1927, she was married to Joseph Young at St. Boniface Catholic Church. They farmed in Garfield Township until April of 1968, when they retired and moved into Garner. Rose enjoyed her family, sewing, crocheting, reading and playing cards.

She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church, Rosary Society, Garner Senior Citizens and the Jolly 9 Card Club.

She is survived by her six children, Evelyn Pavelka of Britt, Dorothy Huinker of Garner, Margaret Becker and her husband, Alvin, of Wesley, Lorraine Chizek of Britt, Paul Young and his wife, Margaret, of Garner and Donald Young and his wife, Jean, of Garner; 37 grandchildren; 64 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

Raymond F. Smith was born on March 15, 1920, in rural Stacyville, to Joseph and Elizabeth (Krebsbach) Smith. He married Marjorie Blake on Nov. 7, 1945. He dedicated his life to his family and farming. He enjoyed visiting the Amish and going to sales.

Linda was born June 26, 1938, in Mason City, the daughter of Kenneth E. and Charlotte H. (Tobsing) Barker. She graduated from Mason City High School in 1956. Linda was an immaculate housekeeper. She took care of her father and 6-year-old brother after her mother died in 1948. She continued to care for her father until his death on Jan. 31, 1998.

She battled with her various health problems through the years and gradually slipped away from us. She will be deeply missed by her family, neighbors, friends and Twerps, her cat. She was a simple, quiet soul who loved her Lord. Her interests were gardening, kitties - often caring for strays, crafts, cooking, canning and baking, especially bread.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and a member of Helping Hands #2.

Survivors include one brother, Don E. Barker and his wife, Geri, of Mason City; aunts, Marie George and Martha Friend; and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a twin sister, Elizabeth, at birth.
