** Vern Lloyd Shipler

BURT — Vern Lloyd Shipler, 85, 117 E. Walnut St., died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center, Algona.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Presbyterian Church, Burt, with the Rev. Sue Thomas and the Rev. Roland Emond officiating. Burial will be in East Lawn Cemetery, Algona.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Bancroft.

Vern Lloyd Shipler was born Nov. 18, 1913 in Swea City.

Survivors include one son, Dennis Shipler, of Burt; two grandchildren; eight stepgrandchildren; three half brothers and three half sisters.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, three wives and one brother.


** Gerald ‘Jerry’ Snyder

MASON CITY — Gerald "Jerry" Snyder, 87, of 825 Fourth St. S.E., died Wednesday (Nov. 25, 1998) at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave..

Other arrangements are incomplete at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave.


** Joseph Dahlhauser

ALGONA — Joseph Dahlhauser, 82, of Algona, died Wednesday (Nov. 25, 1998) at Algona.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona.


** Larry Halfpop

BELMOND — Larry Halfpop, 39, of Belmond, died Wednesday (Nov. 25, 1998) at the Belmond Community Hospital.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Dugger Ewing Funeral Home, 111 Luicks Lane S., Belmond.


** Susan ‘Ruth’ Weaver

ROCKWELL — Susan "Ruth" Weaver, 77, of 223 Oak St. N., died Monday (Nov. 23, 1998) at her home.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Stephen Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Rockwell.

Visitation was held Wednesday at the Sacred Heart Parish Center, Rockwell. Further visitation will begin at 9 a.m. Friday at the Parish Center. There will be no visitationtoday.

Hogan Bremer Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of North Iowa or Sacred Heart Catholic Church in memory of Ruth Weaver.

Susan Ruth Weaver was born Aug. 18, 1921, in rural Nora Springs, daughter of William Frank and Alma (Casperson) Paulus. She married Harold Edward Weaver on Sept. 6, 1941, in Rockford.

Ruth grew up in the Rockford area. After her marriage, she and her husband moved to the Cartersville area for a short while and then they moved to Rockwell. She worked at the Rockwell Nursing Home for three years and then worked for the Rockwell schools in the hot lunch program for 17 years until retiring in 1990.

Ruth enjoyed gardening and raising flowers. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, shopping and playing cards with her friends. She loved being with her grandchildren.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the American Legion Auxiliary and the Moose Lodge.

Survivors include two daughters, Lorraine Cahill, of Rockwell and Elaine Dorris and her husband, Michael, of Reno, Nev.; four sons, William Weaver, of Rockwell,; James Weaver and his wife, Carol, of Rockwell; Jerry Weaver, of Anchorage, Alaska; and Leon Weaver, of Mason City; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Donna Kabrick and her husband, Wesley, of Charles City; six brothers, Tom Paulus and his wife, Mary, of Mason City; Bob Paulus and his wife, Lola, of Charles City; Arlyn Paulus and his wife, Dorothy, of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; Dale Paulus and his wife, Maxine, of Sedro Woolley, Wash.; Dan Paulus and his wife, Lila, of Rentin, Wash.; and Calvin Paulus and his wife, Donna, of Yakima, Wash.; one aunt, Marie Gross, of Shreveport, La.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1982; and one sister, Marjorie Patton.


** Geneva G. Hansen

CLEAR LAKE — Geneva G. Hansen, 79, of Clear Lake, died Tuesday (Nov. 24, 1998) at the Oakwood Care Center, Clear Lake.

Her body was cremated. A Memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Barbara McCaulley officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later time at Fairview Cemetery, Lincoln, Neb.

Her family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Funeral Chapel.

Geneva G. Hansen was born Sept. 11, 1919 in Fertile, daughter of Birch and Barbara (Humphrey) Robison. She married Forrest Hansen on June 20, 1937, in Garner.

Geneva grew up in the Fertile and Garner area and graduated from Garner High School in 1937. She then graduated from Bryan Memorial Nursing School in Lincoln, Neb., and worked as a nurse at Bryan Memorial Hospital until her retirement in 1989.

She loved being with her family. She enjoyed ceramics and craft work. She also enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Survivors include one son, Gayland Hansen and his wife, Phyllis, of North Platte, Neb.; two daughters, Shirley Spellman and her husband, Calvin, of Phillips, Neb. and Genelle Whitehurst and her husband, Gary, of Clear Lake; 15 grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; one stepgreat-great-grandchild; five sisters, Vivian Oppedal, of Decatur, Ill., Nellie Bird, of Garner, Bonnie Boeshart and her husband, Bill, of Garner, Edna McCaulley and her husband, Dale, of Mason City, and Beverly Anderson and her husband, Calvin, of Ventura; one brother, Birch Robison and her husband, Ruth, of Hilo, Hawaii; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one son, James Hansen.


** Betty Marietta Albright

CLEAR LAKE — Betty Marietta Albright, 76, of Clear Lake, died Wednesday (Nov. 25, 1998) at her son and daughter-in-law’s home in St. Paul, Minn.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, 1998, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. Fourth St., Clear Lake, with the Rev. Fred Lewis, of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 18, Mason City.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the chapel.

The family of Betty Marietta Albright has requested that memorial contributions be made to the Arthritis Foundation in her memory.

Betty Marietta Albright was born on Jan. 4, 1922, in Beatrice, Neb., the daughter of Rudolph and Helen (Runge) Hohenfield. She moved to Mason City at an early age with her family.

She was united in marriage to Fred Raymond Albright in 1941, in Mason City. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1996.

During her life, Betty and her husband, Fred, lived in Fort Wayne, Ind., for a short time before moving to Clear Lake. During her life, she was employed at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, where she worked in the kitchen, Clear Lake Bakery and for the Salvation Army in Mason City for several years.

She enjoyed birds, gardening, plants and embroidering.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Clear Lake and the ladies church circle.

For the last year and a half, she was cared for at her son’s and daughter-in-law’s home (Robert and Robyn Albright) where she died.

Left to cherish her memory is a son, Robert Albright and his wife, Robyn, of St. Paul, Minn.; three grandchildren, Michelle McLain and her husband, Mark, of West Liberty; Charlie and Matthew Albright, of Clear Lake; two stepgrandchildren, Matt and Jessica Haug, of St. Paul, Minn.; one great-grandson, Cain Albright, of Clear Lake; six sisters, Eileen Redman, of Mason City; Virginia Thomas and her husband, David, of Rantoul, Ill.; Geraldine Bramsen, of Clear Lake; Patricia Shultz and her husband, Jim, of Mason City; Lois Beery and her husband, John, of Mason City; and Vera Husak and her husband, John, of Mankato, Minn.; two brothers, Sam Hohenfield, of Hawardin and Donald "Butch" Hohenfield, of Rockford Ill.; as well as other relatives and friends.

Besides her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Robert and Loren Hohenfield.
