** Hattie E. Von Wald

MASON CITY — Hattie E. Von Wald, 103, of 1816 Third Ave. S.E., Austin, Minn., formerly of Mason City, died Saturday (Nov. 7, 1998) at the Austin Medical Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, 1148 Fourth St. S.E., with the Rev. David Anderson officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with a 7 p.m. Queen Rebekah service. There will be further visitation one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Memorials may be given to the St. James Lutheran Church or Sacred Heart Hospice Adult Day Care Center in Austin, Minn.

Hattie E. Von Wald was born Sept. 5, 1895, in Owatonna, Minn., the daughter, of Frank and Anna (Pichner) Spatenka. Hattie attended country schools in Steel County.

She married Harvey A. Von Wald on Nov. 3, 1915, in Owatonna, Minn. In 1943, they moved to Mason City, where Harvey was a meat cutter and Hattie was a homemaker.

Hattie enjoyed her flower gardens, birds, dogs and going to summer band concerts.

In 1987 Hattie moved to Austin, Minn., to live with her daughter, and she enjoyed attending the Sacred Heart Hospice Adult Day Care Center.

Hattie was a member of St. James Lutheran Church and the Queen Rebekah Lodge in Mason City for 70 years.

Survivors include one daughter, Luella Allas, of Austin, Minn.; one son, Harvey Von Wald Jr., of Mason City; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harvey A. Von Wald Sr. in 1979; two sons, Henry in 1980 and Leonard in 1994; and two brothers, Henry and George Spatenka.

** Glen F. Platts

MASON CITY — Glen F. Platts, 69, of 1020 N. Taylor Ave., died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Holy Family Catholic Church, 714 N. Adams Ave., with the Rev. Dennis Cahill officiating. Interment will follow in Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery, with a flag folding ceremony conducted by the Mason City Veterans Memorial Association.

Visitation will be held from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 Second St. S.E., and continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to direct memorials to the Glen Platts Memorial Fund.

Glen was born May 24, 1929, the son of George and Gertrude (Aldrich) Platts, in Worth County. Glen served his country in the United States Air Force.

On Dec. 26, 1951, Glen was united in marriage to Beverly Tull at Holy Family Catholic Church in Mason City.

Glen was employed by McKiness Excavating for about a year and a half before going to work for his father.

Glen was an avid fisherman and made many trips to Gull Lake near Brainerd, Minn. He would take his pet dogs, "his girls," out for a car ride every night. While out driving in the country, he was always on the look out for injured animals. If he came across one he would bring it home to nurse it back to health. He enjoyed everything that nature had to offer.

Later when Glen was unable to go fishing, he turned his interest to the CB radio and could be found talking to someone at any given time.

Those thankful for having shared Glen's life include his wife, Beverly; two daughters, Leann Meyers, of Mason City and Susan and her husband, Michael Tisza, of Duncanville, Texas; four sons, Michael and his wife, Kathy Platts, of Mason City; Larry and his wife, Margie Platts, of Mason City; John Platts, of Mason City; and Tim Platts, of Duncanville, Texas; one brother, Harold and his wife, Beverly Platts, of Mason City; one sister-in-law, Mildred Platts, of Mason City; 13 grandchildren, Tammy Meyers, Kris Platts, Charles Meyers, Sarah Platts, Greg Platts, Melissa Platts, Shane Mejia, Scott Platts, Alex Mejia, Matthew Platts, Laura Platts, Marcus Tisza, Patrick Platts; and one great-grandson, Zackary Meyers.

Mr. Platts was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Bill Platts; and two grandchildren, Kristin and Christopher Meyers.

** Mayvis Polsdofer

ROCKWELL — Mayvis Polsdofer, 75, of Rockwell, died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

Funeral services will tentatively be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the United Methodist Church in Rockwell.

Other arrangements are incomplete at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

** Ruth I. Becker

BLUE EARTH, Minn. — Ruth I. Becker, 80, of Blue Earth, Minn., died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the United Hospital, Blue Earth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Ledyard, Iowa, with Father John Thomas officiating. Interment will be held at Maple Hill Cemetery, Lakota.

Visitation was held Tuesday at Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center, and from 9 a.m. until time of services today at the church.

Ruth I. Becker was born on Aug. 3, 1918, on a farm just north of Lakota, Iowa, to Henry and Etta (Ennen) Olthoff.

On Oct. 24, 1942, she was united in marriage to Raymond Becker in Bethany, Mo. They farmed in Kossuth County until 1972, when they moved to Lakota. In 1978, she moved to Blue Earth, Minn., where she resided until her death.

Her interests included family gatherings, music and dancing, baby-sitting and senior citizen's group activities. She loved her family and will be missed dearly.

Ruth is survived by her son, Roger Becker and Shirley Becker, both of Lakota; five grandchildren, Shane Becker and his wife, Laura, of Garner; Jeremy Becker and his wife, Amanda, of Ankeny; Brian Becker, of Johnston; Tony Becker, of Plano, Texas; and Amber Becker, of Omaha, Neb.; one sister, Vera Becker, of Buffalo Center; one brother, Harold Olthoff and his wife, Virgina, of Buffalo Center; and by her former husband, Raymond Becker, of Lakota.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Mervin Olthoff; and one son, Albert Becker.

** Johnathan Danial Prescott

KLEMME — Johnathan Danial Prescott, the son of David Chester and Kristy Lyn (Harms) Prescott, was born on Sept. 6, 1998, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center in Mason City, Iowa. He lived with his parents, his sister, Sheila and his brother, Skyler, in Klemme, Iowa.

This little angel was two months old when he died on Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the North Iowa Mercy Health Center, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ, Klemme, with Pastor Georgia White-Kisslring officiating. Interment will be in Ell Township Cemetery, Klemme.

Those left to cherish time spent with him are his parents, David and Kristy Prescott, of Klemme; sister, Sheila Roseann, of Klemme; brother, Skyler Lee David, of Klemme; grandparents, Harry and Barbara Harms, of Hampton; and James and Rosalie Prescott, of Klemme; great-grandparents, Taus Harms of Belmond; Lida Eenhuis, of Klemme; Chet and Gertrude Taber, of Steamboat Rock; and Beverly Prescott, of Klemme; and many aunts and uncles.

Johnathan was preceded in death by his great-grandparents, John Eenhuis, Cecilia Harms, Clayton Prescott, and Ecko and Grace Reysack.

** Margaret Hilpipre

BELMOND — Margaret Hilpipre, 95, of Belmond, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at the Belmond Health Care Center in Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond, with the Rev. Melvin Voss and the Rev. Herm Gruis officiating. Burial will be in French Cemetery in Woolstock, Iowa.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Tenold Funeral Home in Belmond and will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Margaret was born on Nov. 22, 1902, in St. Die, France, and came to the United States with her mother and brother when she was 18 years old. She was united in marriage to John Hilpipre, and they farmed in the Woolstock and Blairsburg area.

Survivors include three daughters, Yvonne Hofsommer, of DeWitt, Iowa; Marie Erickson, of Dows, Iowa; and Marilyn Pals and her husband, Wayne, of Belmond, Iowa; 13 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers and two sisters.

** Richard C. Gouge Sr.

GARNER — Richard C. Gouge Sr., 64, of Garner, died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with the Rev. Kay Hooper of the United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel and one hour prior to services on Friday.

Memorials may be directed to the Richard C. Gouge Memorial Fund.

Richard Carson Gouge Sr. was born March 9, 1934, at Britt.

Survivors include his children, Richard Gouge Jr., of Denver, Colo.; Larry Gouge, of Garner; Mark Gouge, of Garner; and Mary Elizabeth Calvert, of Sparta, Tenn.; three stepchildren, Roberta Ray Standsbury, of Pomona, Calif.; Maureen Walton, of Squamish, Canada; and Michelle, of Denver, Colo.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Merle Gouge, of Garner.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, an infant son, parents, five brothers and two sisters.

SHEFFIELD — Boyd A. Smith, 75, of Sheffield, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at the Heritage Health Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield, where other arrangements are incomplete

** Richard W. Collins

CHARLES CITY — Richard W. Collins, 94, of 807 Fifth St., died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

He deeded his body to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy, Iowa City.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Chapel, at Salsbury Baptist Home, Charles City.

Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, is in charge of arrangements.

Richard Wiley Collins was born July 23, 1904, at Eldora.

Survivors include three daughters, Kathlyn Dabrowski, of Chicago; Pat Stohlmann, of Des Moines; and Mary Pike, of Madison, Wis.; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, his second wife, three brothers and two sisters.

MASON CITY — Marjorie R. Behm, 84, of 415 S. Tennessee Place, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at her home.

** Wilbert N. Nixt

CHARLES CITY — Wilbert N. Nixt, 86, of 107 Park Drive, Charles City, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at the Riverside Chautauqua Guest Home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., Charles City, with Monsignor Stanley J. Hayek, of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Charles City.

Visitation will be held from noon to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main St., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil scriptural wake service. There will be further visitation from 9 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.

Wilbert Nicholas Nixt was born Dec. 5, 1911, in Union Township, Butler County.

Survivors include his wife, Marjorie, of Charles City; two sons, Steven, of Granger, and Gary, of St. Joseph, Mo.; three daughters, Mary Lindsay, of Tempe, Ariz.; Julie Dilley, of Husan, Mont., and Gwen Nixt, of Oreon, Utah; five stepdaughters, Darlene Ayres, of Dumont; Delores Grove, and Gloria Meyer, both of New Hampton; Duenda Zwanziger, of Nashua; and Linda Lindner, of Plainfield; several grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one grandson, one granddaughter and one sister.

Memorials may be directed to the Hospice of North Iowa, Charles City center.

** Marvin 'Skeeter' Meyer

GARNER — Marvin "Skeeter" Meyer, 56, of Garner, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at North Iowa Mercy Health Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner, with Pastor Caroline Engelbrecht officiating. Burial will be in the Corwith City Cemetery, in Corwith.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Cataldo Funeral Chapel, 160 E. Fourth St., Garner.

Marvin "Skeeter" Charles Meyer was born Jan. 29, 1942, on a farm near Kanawha.

Survivors include many relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

BUFFALO CENTER — Grace Yahnke, 93, of Buffalo Center, died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the Timely Mission Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church, Buffalo Center, with the Rev. Gary Bergman officiating. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center.

Visitation will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. today at the Winter Funeral Home, Buffalo Center.

Grace Yahnke was born Jan. 24, 1905, near Buffalo Center.

Survivors include her children, Murial Johnson, of Baton Rouge, La.; Ron, of Sherburn, Minn.; Harold, of St. Charles, Mo.; Larry, of Cedar Falls; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Marian Connley, of Mason City; Florence Downey, of Wellman; Lillian Kopp, of Buffalo Center; and Ruth Lund, of Mesa, Ariz.; a brother, Merle Harms, of Long Beach, Calif.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters, four brothers and two infant grandsons.

** Robert Kenneth Campbell

HAMPTON — Robert Kenneth Campbell, 90, of Hampton, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at the Franklin General Hospital, Hampton.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Hampton United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Michael Bahde officiating. Burial will be in the Hartford Cemetery, Hartford.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Hampton.

Robert Kenneth Campbell was born April 6, 1908, in Milestone, Saskatchewan, Canada.

Survivors include three sons, Keith Campbell, of Seward, Alaska; Kenneth Campbell Jr., of Knoxville, Tenn.; and Jack Campbell, of Urbandale; one daughter, Margaret Schoonover, of Wapello; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren; one brother, Keith Campbell, of Kindersly, Saskatchewan, Canada; and four sisters, Margaret Domesshell, of Llyodminster, Saskatchewan, Canada; Hilda Halpenny, of Kindersly, Saskatchewan, Canada; Faye Martin, of Kindersly, Saskatchewan, Canada; and Kathryn Finnely, of Coleville, Saskatchewan, Canada.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters.

ROCKWELL — Mayvis Polsdofer, 75, of Rockwell, died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998) at the Rockwell Community Nursing Home, Rockwell.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the First United Methodist Church, Rockwell, with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, Swaledale.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Mayvis Polsdofer was born April 20, 1923, in Swaledale.

Survivors include five sisters, Agnes Rice, of Lime Springs; Leona Hetrick, of Mason City; Ardes Bier, of Clear Lake; Dorothy Hiscocks, of Britt; and Shari Michelson, of Mason City; three brothers, Lawrence Polsdofer, of Corydon; Duane Polsdofer, of Rockwell; and Ed Polsdofer, of Saline, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents and four sisters.

FOREST CITY — Evelyn Hass, 92, of Forest City, died Wednesday (Nov. 11, 1998) at the Good Samaritan Home, Forest City.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City.

** Boyd Smith

SHEFFIELD — Boyd Smith, 75, of Sheffield, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at the Heritage Care Center, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield, with the Rev. Steve Hollingsworth officiating. Burial will be in Westfork Cemetery, rural Sheffield.

Visitation will be held two hours prior to services on Friday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield.

Boyd Smith was born March 23, 1923, in Franklin County.

Survivors include two daughters, Rebecca Hoberland, of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Amie Trautman, of Oklahoma City, Okla.; one son, Robert Smith, of Norrisville, Wis.; six grandchildren; one sister, Genevieve Deshler, of Sheffield; and one brother, Leroy Smith, of Mason City.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one infant son, three sisters and two brothers.

** Marjorie R. Behm

MASON CITY — Marjorie R. Behm, 84, of 415 S. Tennessee Place, died Tuesday (Nov. 10, 1998) at her home.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 100 First St. N.E., with the Rev. Richard Scheerer officiating. The body will be donated to the University of Iowa Medical School, Iowa City.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. today at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Mason City.

Marjorie was born Aug. 26, 1914, in Logan, Iowa, the daughter of Lowery W. and Grace M. (Derry) Logan. She graduated from Loan High School in 1932.

On July 28, 1932, Marjorie married Paul W. Behm in Logan. In 1936, the Behm's moved to Grinnell where Marjorie would begin her long career as a piano accompanist for high school instrumental musicians. She retired in 1971.

Marjorie was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, church circle, 20th Century Club, Matinee Musical and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

She is survived by her husband, Paul W. Behm, of Mason City; three sons, Gary Behm, of Billings, Mont.; Denny Behm and his wife, Kaylene, of Hattiesburg, Miss.; and Chuck Behm and his wife, Pat, of Boone, Iowa; five grandchildren, Richard Behm, Tracy Schieno, Jason Behm, Katie Behm, and Kylie Behm; and two great-grandchildren, Logan and Dillon Schieno.

She was preceded in death by her parents, grandchild and brother, Edwin.

** Michael Lee Armour

BELMOND — Michael Armour, 55, of Belmond, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at the Belmond Community Hospital, in Belmond.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church, in Belmond, with the Rev. Jim Carpenter officiating. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Belmond Honor Guard.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Tenold Funeral Home, in Belmond.

Michael Lee Armour was born on Aug. 20, 1943, at the Belmond Community Hospital. He was the son of Ronald "Punch" and Avon (Kinseth) Armour. He graduated from Belmond High School in 1961.

He served in the United States Army from 1963-1966, including a tour of duty in Vietnam. After returning home, he attended NIACC and graduated with AAS and AA. In 1971, he graduated from Winona State College with a BA degree in Business Administration.

Mike worked for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City, Mo., City Supply Corporation in Des Moines, Iowa and Waldinger Corporation, in Des Moines, Iowa, as a project manager. In 1976, he returned to Belmond to work at Kinseth Plumbing & Heating as a mechanical estimator. In 1989, he became an owner of the business. He was also an instructor at NIACC for Associated Builders and Contractors.

On Oct. 27, 1972, Mike married Sylvia Ross at Sioux Falls, S.D., in a double wedding ceremony with Sylvia's sister, Nancy and her husband, Rick Lee. Rick died in 1977. Mike will be laid to rest in a plot adjacent to Rick's.

Mike's friendly smile and witty sense of humor made him a friend to all. Mike was an avid golfer and also enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends. He loved driving his "55 " Chevy and showing it at car shows.

Mike was admired by all of those who knew him. He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He touched many lives, and will be greatly missed.

Survivors include his wife, Sylvia, of Belmond; two sons, Chad Armour, of Belmond and Mark Armour, of Tallahassee, Fla.; daughter, April Armour, of Mason City; mother, Avon Armour, of Belmond; sister, Deb Burnham and her husband, Fred, of Belmond; father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Vivian Ross, of Dows; two sisters-in-law, Toni Armour, of Belmond, and Nancy Lee, of Clear Lake; nieces and nephews, Matt and Sue Armour, of Mason City; Jesse Armour, of Cedar Falls; Jessica Burnham and her daughter, Shania, of Belmond; Jodi Burnham, of Belmond; Stacie and Simmie Elmore and their children, Alexa and Dillon, of Manly; Ryan Lee, of Mount Vernon; and Rick and Mika Lee and their children, Daniel and Ricky, of Clear Lake.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Ronald; an infant brother, James; and brother, Terry Armour.

** Lynden O. Ramey

ALGONA — Lynden O. Ramey, 9-months-old, of Algona, died Monday (Nov. 9, 1998).

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, 1998, at St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Algona, with Father Steve Brodersen officiating.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home, Algona, where other arrangements are incomplete.

CHARLES CITY — Jeanette (Mrs. Cletus) Gobel, 80, of 802 N. Grand Ave., died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at the Ramsey Home, in Des Moines.

** Curtis Amundson

JOICE — Curtis Amundson, 77, of Joice, died Thursday (Nov. 20, 1998) at North Iowa Hospice, Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Beaver Creek Lutheran Church, rural Joice.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark, Forest City, where other arrangements are incomplete.

** Frances L. Revland

GARNER — Frances L. Revland, 93, of Garner, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at the Concord Care Center, Garner.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the St. Paul Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Clyde Kieschnick officiating. Private family graveside services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Concord Township Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Cataldo Funeral Chapel, Garner.

Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Hospice of North Iowa.

Frances Lillian Revland was born Aug. 28, 1905, at Garner.

ALLISON — Ethan Elmer Toebe, 73, of Allison, died Thursday (Nov. 12, 1998) at the Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. James Lutheran Church, in Allison, with the Rev. Jerry Laehn officiating. Burial will be in the Allison Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Sietsema-Vogel Funeral Home, Allison.

Ethan Elmer Toebe was born March 23, 1925, in Floyd County.

Survivors include his wife, Mina J. Toebe, of Allison; two daughters, Donna Eaton, of Waterloo; and Judy Toebe, of Waterloo; one son, Myron Toebe, of Shellrock; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother in infancy, and one grandson.

** Reta Elaine Heiken

NORTHWOOD — Reta Elaine Heiken, 67, of Northwood, died Wednesday (Nov. 11, 1998) at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, in Mason City.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 14, 1998, at the Northwood United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Richard Jensen officiating. Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery, Northwood.

Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, Highway 65 South, Northwood.

Reta was born in El Paso, Ill. on Aug. 1, 1931 to Ralph and Elsie (Mapes) Kingdon. She graduated from El Paso High School in 1949 and worked as a legal secretary for several years.

She married George A. Heiken on July 21, 1951. They lived on a farm near Danvers, Ill., before moving to Sumner, Iowa in 1961 and then to Northwood, Iowa in 1962.

She worked for four years at the Worth County Farm Bureau as office secretary, eight years at Carroll George, Inc., in Northwood and Bertram Cooper & Company in Albert Lea, Minn. for several years.

She was co-owner with her husband and ran Hilltop House Collectable Toys for the last 20 years.

She was a member of the Northwood United Methodist Church.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, George A. Heiken, of Northwood; children, Kathleen Anderson and her husband, James, of Fayetteville, Tenn., and David A. Heiken and his wife, Louise, of Kensett, Iowa; grandchildren, Adam, Daniel, Jeffery and Angela Heiken, and Melissa, J.C. and Thomas Anderson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Lyle and Merlyn.

KENSETT — Mildred Clemenson, 83, of Kensett, died at home.

IOWA CITY — Edith Marie Cobeen Jenks, 91, formerly of Iowa City, died Thursday (Oct. 29, 1998) at the ManorCare Health Services in Cedar Rapids, following a long illness.

Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 17, 1998, at Trinity Episcopal Church, Iowa City, with the Rev. Jason L. Parkin officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery, Iowa City.

The George L. Gay Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2720 Muscatine Ave., Iowa City, is in charge of arrangements.

Memorials may be made to the Edith Jenks Memorial Fund.

Mrs. Jenks was born March 19, 1907, in Plymouth, Iowa, the daughter of John and Angie (Madera) Cobeen. She attended country school near Manly, then graduated from the University of Iowa with a degree in journalism.

Early in her career, Edith worked in an actuarial office on Wall Street and later served 10 years as a librarian with the School of Journalism at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1972.

She married John William Jenks in Long Island, N.Y. and the couple moved to Iowa City in 1943.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, in Iowa City.

Survivors include two sons, John C. and his wife, Monica Leo Jenks, of Iowa City, Iowa and David Alden and his wife, Darla Jenks, of Manly, Iowa; and two grandsons, John Raymond Jenks, of Iowa City, Iowa and David Matthew Jenks, of Riverside, Iowa.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1961; one daughter, Susan Gaffey in 1995; and five siblings, Albin, Gaylord, Leonard, Floyd and Edna Cobeen.

Jeanette Theresa Heck Smith Goebel was born Feb. 21, 1918 in Clayton County.

He was preceded in death by his great-grandparents.
